(CNN) - Sen. John McCain spends the next two days campaigning through Pennsylvania with the state’s former Gov. Tom Ridge at his side.
Anytime McCain appears with someone that might be on his vice presidential shortlist, it stirs up a whole new round of speculation. And as Pennsylvania is a key battleground state, Ridge is getting plenty of attention.
Ridge, a former Homeland Security Secretary, grew up in Erie and begin his political career in the northwest Pennsylvania city where the McCain tour begins.
And if the presumptive Republican nominee needed any reminder of Ridge’s prominence, he’ll get it the moment his plane sets down. The Erie International Airport where McCain lands late Sunday afternoon is also named “Tom Ridge Field” in the hometown politico’s honor.

You must remember that Ridge doesn't know anything about Economy and many people don't know except Mccain who Ridge is .
He won't bring any excitement to Mccain's Ticket and he might lose.
Mccain has to think about us, citizens who is going to vote.
Mitt Romney is the only one brings victory to Mccain!
M & M Ticket for 2008
I just don't understand the McCain campaign. They know they have to separate themselves from the disastrous Bush presidency if they are to have any hope, yet they keep surrounding McCain with his cronies to the point of hiring some and letting others be widely discussed by the public and the media as potential running mates? Do they not see the conflict here?
Tom Ridge...Ruby Ridge.. it's all the same.. government corpurtion at it's finest...
Tom Ridge will be hitting the campaign trail with John McCain this week........Who Cares!!!!
"The Case Against Barack Obama: The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media's Favorite Candidate"
Let's remember this is the guy who raised the silly color coded terrorist alerts for no reason at all.
That being said, I'd like to see McCain pick this buffoon, just to show everyone even more of his incompetence.
How wants to join a sinking ship?
Yeah, like "Mr. Duct Tape" really makes a credible VP. Gimme a break!!
Unless something truly drastic happens, McCain is going to lose.
Only truly dumb people think Bush was a good President, and only truly uninformed people fail to see that Bush and McCain agree on virtually everything, and that McCain would continue the overwhelming majority of Bush's policies.
Aside from propping up the failed Bush policies and former Administration officials, we will see if McCain has the stamina to make it through the campaign season. Typically, he does one event a day and seeks weekends off. The aged one needs his Geritol boost.
McCain should get with Conndy Rice for VP. They would become
unbeatable overnight. I wonder if she would even take the job?
McCain is close but needs to do more in a hurry. This would be
just the ticket !
JC Watts for VP!
Don't you have some brush to clear at one of your 8 houses Mr. McCain? Maybe some fish to catch in your man-made pond? Perhaps you need to spend some more time polishing those $520 loafers you wear everywhere.
Blue collar Pennsylvania doesn't need you telling us "how much you understand" our plight, you smug elitist.
Maybe John Kerry wold accept the offer since McCain voted for Kerry in 2004.
Ridge is the one who told everyone to duct tape themselves into a room so terrorists couldn't get in to attack them.
He just didn't tell anyone they'd soon run out of air.
A perfect choice for the inept. McCain.
Samurai,
are you referring to the same mitt romney that has 5 sons, all of fighting age, yet none of whom have joined the military to fight the war that they and he support? the same guy who avoided vietnam, only to be pushing this war now?
THAT mitt romney? well bring him on!!
after all, it wouldn't be a republican ticket without at least 1 draft dodger and chickenhawk on it!
Now I know I'm not voting for Obama or McCain. Tom Ridge and John Ashcroft are directly responsible, for shredding the Constitution. You get one of them doped up on a hospital bed they'd liable to sell their own mother out.
if obama is such a great democrat and mccain is so bad ,and the economy is bad and an unpopular war –why is it even close in the polls–it should be a runaway which it is not which can only tell you one of two things–mccain has more support than people think or obama is not as good as people think-
McCain might as well pick a Bush insider like Ridge as a running mate since these Bushies are the people that manage McCain's campaign and who he will have as advisers if he gets elected. Anyone who thinks McCain isn't another puppet of the big (oil money) machine behind George Bush is deluding themselves.
McCain's campaign is based on telling lies about Obama often enough and hope people believe the propaganda machine enough to believe it and support McCain. A nice demonstration on how McCain would rule America.
Is this a joke?
NO MORE OLD MEN, WRINKLED FACES, AND BALD. WHERE HAVE I HEARD THAT BEFORE? JIM
I have relatives in PA that have said Ridge is a "crooked man" since long before he became the Gov. of PA or "Mr. Duct Tape, USA".
I don't trust him two feet. Most in PA don't. Although, with those credentials, he might actually add some integrity to the Repuke Party this year. HA
I love the people who act as if McCain has no chance of winning. It just reminds me of the same nuts who heralded victory for Gore, Kerry, McGovern, and Dukakis. The far left always manages to push their dopey candidates through the primary and then wait for a win. But it never happens does it?
Even a twit like McCain can defeat Obama. They are tied in the polls and Obama always overpolls. And what happened to all the new democrats Obama was supposed to bring in to the party? You guys disenfranchised your base and promised their replacement but the number of people registered as democrats fell in July.. I can't wait for November.
Ridge should be the presidential contender and McCain should go back to Arizona and stay there.
He backs the Yucca Mountain storage site for nuclear, but says he does not want a nuclear site in Arizona, the same old republican adage of not in my back yard, for I am rich and you can put in the poors back yard.
