Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama are slated to speak at the Democratic convention.

(CNN) – The Democratic National Convention announced its “headline” speakers Sunday, with Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama each getting a starring role in prime time.

As CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux and Candy Crowley reported last month, Clinton will speak on Tuesday night. That day, August 26th, will be the 88th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which gave women the right to vote.

A statement from the convention called Clinton a “champion for working families and one of the most effective and empathetic voices in the country today.”

Michelle Obama will address the convention in the headline spot on Monday night.

Wednesday night will feature a speech from Barack Obama’s still unnamed running mate. Former president Bill Clinton will also speak that night.

Obama will accept the party’s nomination Thursday night, delivering his acceptance speech away from the convention hall at the larger Invesco Field at Mile High. Sixty-thousand tickets for his speech were given away the first day they were made available. His speech, on August 28th, comes on the 45th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

The announcement only gives the final speakers of each night. A spokesman tells CNN a keynote speaker will be named in the coming days.

Convention co-chair Kathleen Seleblius said in a statement, “We are at a critical moment in our nation’s history. The politics and policies that have divided us will not allow us to achieve the change we need. Barack Obama is a leader to move America in a new direction and bring us together to turn moments of great challenge into moments of great opportunity. This year’s Democratic Convention is the story of people from across the country who believe it is time for change.”

Ron, how many times are you going to mention that the Obama's don't buy birthday/christmas gift. Did you read the full article or just pick the part you thought was most inflamatory??? If you read the rest, you would know that they prefer to give them birthday/christmas experiences like throwing a slumber party. For some, having your parents there is worth more than any present. So stop trying to make something out of nothing.

As for Hillary and Michelle, I will be TIVOing all the speeches. I am looking forward to hearing what they have to say.

Nothing beats experience….Nothing. If no more, didn't we learn that from Bush? Even if GWB had a good idea he couldn't capitalize because he did not have the experience or savvy to know how. McCain does. Obama is more like Bush than McCain from that point of view and that is very frightening. I vote independent and experience. Think about that the next time you have your car serviced or have to have surgery. I'm sure you would not want to choose one of the newest guys on the block. New ideas are a good thing….but only if they work or can be workable. Experience is how you engage hope that can become reality.

Tom Williams   August 11th, 2008 11:18 am ET

"Patricia mo". What I want to know is why does Obama not exhibit ANY white features? I think the people need to know that Obama is not part white, which means that the "mother" in Hawaii was not his birth mother, and his supposed father was Kenyan. Which means that he is not an American citizen by birth . Which means that he is not eligible under the Constitution to be President of the US.

Isn't it true that mixed race people exhibit features of both races as a normal thing?

I am no Obama fan, but guys like you are ruining my chance of ever seeing a decent politician in my lifetime. You probably also believe that the Clintons had their close friends (Foster and Brown) killed, the moon landing was a hoax, and the illuminati are running the entire world (not just the thickheaded right wing of the republicans and northern liberal effete)

The right-wingers and bitter Clintonistas have become so desperate in their hapless efforts to defeat Senator Obama that they have resorted to lying about him giving birthday presents to his daughters.

He told People magazine that he spends several hundred dollars on a birthday slumber party for his daughter and her friends each year- He takes all of her friends out to the movies the next day.

You bitter losers rooting for McBush are pathetic.

I'm not proud of my country and why should I be…Over 400000 jobs lost since january, gas is at 3.90 a gal…people like you are allowd to breathe…people won't accept him cause he is BLACK…

The unemployment rate is at 5.7 percent. That means that 94.3 percent of the population is employed. That's really something to be ashamed of.

The price of gasoline in Europe ranges from as low as $6.12 a gallon in Bulgaria to as high as $9.39 in The Netherlands. We are at $3.63 in my town. That's really something to be ashamed of.

One of the things that makes this country great is that no matter how stupid your comment is you have the right to make it and continue breathing. I would have thought you, of all people, would be thankful for (if not proud of) that.

And, finally, there are a lot of us who don't support your candidate because he is inexperienced and untrustworthy. His skin tone has nothing to do with it. The fact that the Obama side is the one constantly injecting race into this campaign says a lot about what your candidate really cares about and it isn't healing the racial divide…

It will be great to see Hillary again. I sure hope Michelle does'nt blow it again with another "this is the first time I've ever been proud of my country" statement…..It's hard for me to envision the First Lady of the US making a statement like that (and no, her appearance on The View months after the statement did'nt change my take on it).

Well, it's clear these observations and evaluations aren't being made by professionals. One childish woman has referred to Michelle Obama as "one ugly chick", another has taken some tips from the Karl Rove spin machine and decided to reference her "proud" comments yet again. Give me a break. Of course Hillary Clinton has to have a speaking post at the convention…she garnered around 18 million votes in the Primaries, whether they were from people who would have voted for her in the General or not. Also, as many objections as I may have to the tactics of her campaign, I was entirely prepared to vote for her if she won the nomination because I know that at the end of the day, Hillary's interests and my interests for the direction of this country share far more in common that mine and John McCain's.

I'm a 21 year old college student, and this will be the first general election vote of my lifetime, yet I wonder if age really has much to do with a person's preparedness to vote? I don't know the ages of some of these negative bloggers, but the emotional age represented by some of these comments is truely infantile.

Obama '08 — He's not perfect, but this isn't a perfect world. The pragmatist in me says it's him or no one.

INDEPENDENT NYC   August 11th, 2008 10:13 am ET

Hillary Clinton has not changed. She is still bitter and hateful that she was not the shoe in she thought she was. She started her campaign as if she had a right to be President. She lied too us about being shot, come to think of it we all should have known it was a lie from the first time she said it. Had an American First Lady been in the cross fire of bullets it would have hit the news all over the world. Yet, no one had a memory of such an event. She counted on our ignorance to the fact that this never happened. She spend millions of dollars even after she was fully aware that she would loose the delegate count. Now, she intends to sabotage the convention and if she does I for one will vote against her in the next senate race if Obama has any additional complications in his bid for President. If another deceptive republican moves into the White House New Yorkers will remember the Clintons lack of support. She can bet her political career on it.

Michelle may have finished her “How to Win Friends and Influence People” charm school course and will now audition as the "new" Michelle — but how DARE they position her with Hillary Clinton — a woman who has TRULY served her country with valor, courage, and PRIDE for more than 30 years. TRULY DISGUSTING - but what else is new with the DNC these days!

Democrat in FL   August 11th, 2008 10:05 am ET

Grandmother - I respect your sentiment regarding the fact that children should be raised by their loving parents and that one parent should be home…although which parent doesn't matter to me.

However, the problem isn't with socialistic ideals; rather, it comes from the greed of those at the top. Most couples work out of necessity just to pay the bills (not to pay for extravagant lifestyles). With the greed at the top, the workers of America have been priced as dual-income workers. Let me give you an example…

My father-in-law was a manager for a Fortune 500 corporation in 1981. He had about 20 people under him and managed one specific business unit. Conversely, I am a Vice President with a Fortune 500 corporate, and I have over sixty people working for me in seven distinct business units. Here's the kicker - My father-in-law made $9000 more per year (27 years ago!) than I make today…oh, and by the way, my company has been INCREDIBLY profitable during the Bush years…yet, I have been required to cut my staff every year (I thought tax cuts were supposed to create jobs).

So please, anyone, explain to me how socialism can be blamed for the dual-income requirement that we are faced with today. Also, please enlighten me on how tax cuts create more jobs.

By the way, my wife does not work, and she raises our daughter; however, this Vice President of a major corporation has to have a side business to make ends meet…and we still live week-to-week in a midsize (2000 square foot) house and haven't taken a vacation in almost two years.

Hillary Clinton will be the candidate running against McCain in November. She hasn't released her delegates, she hasn't conceded the nomination and her support of Obama has been lackluster at best. In addition, her supporters are ramping up for a fight in Denver so they can be heard? Obama already has the same position as Hillary on every issue. Either she is a sore loser or she is doing everything she can to ensure that Obama loses so she can be the 2012 nominee.

Dear Dems Unite & Vote Big,

The best first lady the White House has ever seen was Eleanor Roosevelt followed by Dolley Madison. Then argueably Hillary Clinton. Michelle Obama will never come close to this trio, and neither will Cindy McCain.

I am still very interested to hear what Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama will have to say at the convention. No matter what one thinks of these two, there is no denying that this will be historic!

Debby   August 11th, 2008 9:49 am ET

And another that didn't get through….

Apparently it's my lot in life today to negate these comments.

Susie, seriously? You think that the media downplayed Edwards on behalf of the Democrats? That's your opinion and you're certainly entitled to it.

My take on it though is exactly the opposite. I'm guessing that the "in the tank for McCain" MSM actually held back on the story because they knew it would bring up McCain's sordid past. He and Edwards make a great team. Remember McCain came back from his POW stint to a wife, seriously injured in a car accident and not the stunning beauty (outside at least) that he left behind. He immediately started a series of affairs, culminating in his eventual marriage to Barbie Cindy. That marriage was in the planning stages before his divorce from Carol was even complete. You really think the McCain camp wanted those inevitable comparisons to surface?

Darn it, here we go again. CNN, what's up with the moderation??

Conspiracy theories, Larry? That's the best you can do? He said 57 states instead of 57 primaries.

And Alice in Florida, I certainly hope that you're intelligent enough to realize that should Obama lose in November (God save us all if that happens), the chances of Hillary being the nominee in 2012 will be remote at best. This election is her best chance to become an integral, important part of the White House, maybe not as POTUS or VP, but as Attorney General, HHS Secretary or a Universal Healthcare position. She will have no chance at that in a McCain administration - remember his disdain for Hillarycare? I don't think Obama is the answer to all our prayers. Frankly, I think it would have been ideal to have Hillary for 8 years, with a segue and transition to Obama after that time. Maybe Michelle can spout off about "being proud of America for the first time in her adult life" as she said those EXACT words and only once threw in the "really proud" like that makes a difference.

Or maybe she can explain why she stated “America is a mean country" her EXACT WORDS.

Maybe she can explain what she heard and felt during those 20 years in the Rev' Wright's church.

Now before some Obamabot comes on and says some stupid canned zombie response, these were her EXCACT words and I know how facts can be tricky things, but I am just a "typical white person, who clings to guns and religion".

Phil in KC   August 11th, 2008 9:33 am ET

OK - this is off-subject, but I have not see this covered anywhere else.
Last night, during Olympic coverage, Costas was interviewing Bush and got him to make a statement that should have received wide coverage.
He asked, given our problems here in the US and the growing strength of China, what leverage did we have? Bush's response was that he did not perceive that we have a problem! He went on to say something like we should not be looking at it as leverage but as the spirit of cooperation or some drivel like that. I wish I had the exact quote, but I can't find it.
The President does not perceive that we have a problem here at home! And he thinks we can negotiate with no leverage. This guy is totally out of touch with reality.
Wake up America.

Americans would be well advised to think hard and fast about McCain and his war mongering tactics. He has bad mouthed and insulted almost every leader of and country in the world (or at least those countries he knew existed).

My guess is if McCain is elected you will see a huge coalition of countries that either hate and/or don't trust the U.S. and that MY FRIENDS is very scary.

Remember the U.S. has lost all of it's self esteem and for many is now considered a rogue nation that will invade other countries without reason other than greed. Fear is a great motivator so the best advice is Buyer Beware.

When Hillary speaks at the convention, true justice would prevail if she were to deliver what is surely to be a purely self-absorbed jaded tirade about herself as a victim in front of a backdrop displaying the images of the over half million innocent dead Iraqi non-combatants, children, and WOMEN. Hillary stood proudly hand-in-hand with Bush and Cheney and voted for their deaths with an empowered smile on her face.

Then again, the lives of these innocent Iraqi non-combatants, children and especially WOMEN aren’t as valuable to Hillary and her supporters as American WOMEN.

God Bless America.

Well CNN, I'll try again - Hillary and her feminist friends have done a disservice to this country by encouraging women to put their children in daycare so they can go out into the workforce and prove they are equal to men. Now, many men expect/demand that their wives leave their children in someone elses care while they work part-time, or not at all, or so they can have their many toys at the expense of their childrens well-being. We need moms to stay at home and be the loving care-givers and home-makers our children need. It doesn't "Take a Village" it takes loving parents. Hillary and the liberals promote socialism and government control which is detrimental to any freedom loving society. That's why after three tries CNN still won't post this.

If Mcain wins she and Pumas will be partly to blame and HRC will never get another chance at POTUS; don't you guys get that? Our country needs CHANGE NOW not 4or 8 yrs. latter. Obama and Democrats are that CHANGE.

Deb, Allentown, PA   August 11th, 2008 8:51 am ET

Deb, Allentown, PA   August 11th, 2008 8:47 am ET

Conspiracy theories, Larry? That's the best you can do? He said 57 states instead of 57 primaries.

And Alice in Florida, I certainly hope that you're intelligent enough to realize that should Obama lose in November (God save us all if that happens), the chances of Hillary being the nominee in 2012 will be remote at best. This election is her best chance to become an integral, important part of the White House, maybe not as POTUS or VP, but as Attorney General, HHS Secretary or a Universal Healthcare position. Hello!!!   August 11th, 2008 8:24 am ET

Michelle will not be able to handle what Hillary has gone through. She just won't be able to take it.
Years from now, if she becomes first lady, she will understand Hillary and respect her. Kind of like the teenager who thinks their parents don't know anything, but by the time the teenager is in their late 20's, early 30's, have had a kid or two, own a home, worked for a few years, then all of a sudden the parents become sooooo much smarter in their eyes.

Zreebs   August 11th, 2008 8:24 am ET

I must confess that I am disappointed that the top four speakers to the convention have a name of either Obama or Clinton. All four of them probably deserve to speak at the convention, but the Democratic Party has other stars that it can/should highlight.

Mike, TX   August 11th, 2008 8:24 am ET

Hillary, the true winner of the democratic primary will get a spot at the convention. Michelle will offer more of her whinning and victimization card on Monday night. President Clinton will speak. Then the moveon.org representative who stole the election from HRC will try and steal MLK's legacy at a stadium named after a hedge fund and will talk about "change" that isn't change at all.

It's the DNC Smoke and Mirrors Show on prime time!

You heard this? And everybody chalked it up to, 'Well, he's tired.' Barack Obama says he's gonna go out and campaign in 57 states, he was just tired, you know, it's been such a long campaign, he's been so many places, he probably thinks there are 57 states.
Well, I have here a printout from a website called the International Humanist and Ethical Union. This is how the second paragraph of an article on that website begins.. 'Every year from 1999 to 2005 the organization of the Islamic conference representing the 57 Islamic states presented a resolution to the United Nations commission on human rights called combating.' The title of the piece here is, 'How the Islamic states dominate the UN human rights council,' and there are 57 of them.
Obama said he's going to campaign in 57 states, and it turns out that there are 57 Islamic states. There are 57 Islamic states. So did Obama just lose his bearings, or was this a more telling slip, ladies and gentlemen?

I predict that this will be one of the most watched Conventions in history. Both of these women have a lot to say that everyone wants to hear…absolutely a historic political Convention!

Richard   August 11th, 2008 8:10 am ET

Can not wait the hear Hillary's speech, the best qualified to have become President.

Now the ugly wife of arrogant Barack HUSSEIN Obama, turn the TV off. The last thing I want to hear is Michelle's big mouth not to mention her teeth. She is as arrogant as her husband.

No Hillary! NOOOOO OBAMA!

Hillary supporter for McCain!!!!!!

Laura   August 11th, 2008 8:07 am ET

I for one wish I could be there to him him speak, Great Speaker very intelligent man and hopefully the next President. There are many that hate that him being President is a possibility but we can't undo what God has appointed and you better believe some will try but he is surrounded by God glory!!!!

Margaret   August 11th, 2008 8:06 am ET

Hillary, we're still with you. We are just quiet so this Om-bum-a guy wont use you to raise his poll numbers. Besides were just tired reading the same garbage these racists spew. Most of their posting dont even make sense, they are just proud that they are racist spewing racist remarks, voting for an incompetent black guy just because he's black.

Mccain=Bush   August 11th, 2008 8:04 am ET

Obama is a smart man and that is why he will win this campaign. Mcbush on the other hamd is a liar and will never sit in the oval office as President because Obama is the Man Mcbush is Old.

PLEASE DO NOT PUT MICHELLE OBAMA IN THE SAME CATAGORY AS HILLARY CLINTON. HILLARY CLINTON IS WONDERFUL. MICHELLE OBAMA CAN IN NO WAY STAND UP TO THE HIGH STANDARDS OF HILLARY CLINTON.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff   August 11th, 2008 8:03 am ET

Why is Michelle Obama even mentioned in the same breath with Senator Clinton? Michelle Obama has done nothing for the nation. Michelle Obama and her husband are interested in their own best interests rather than the best interests of the nation. This election cycle will be a disaster. No matter who wins, the nation loses!!

correction… the feminist ideology which has been a great detriment to our society.

Michael   August 11th, 2008 8:01 am ET

Like it or not Republicans, Obama is far and away a much more exciting candidate than McCain. He's a better story and embodies what America has been wanting for the past eight years: relief.

McCainites need to stop complaining about the media love affair with Barack. He's running a better campaign, that's all.

A Grandmother   August 11th, 2008 8:00 am ET

CNN, You didn't post A Thinking Woman's comments last night about this same article. What's the problem?

Walt, Belton,TX   August 11th, 2008 7:59 am ET

Go Hillary!!

A Grandmother   August 11th, 2008 7:57 am ET

Hillary and her feminist friends gave to women the unfortunate position of now being pressured to put their children into daycare so they can go out and PROVE they are equal to men. Now, many husbands expect/demand that their wives find someone else to take care of their children so they can go out and work. Some of these husbands are then staying home or working part time. Hopefully, the next generation will see how flawed the feminist agenda is and realize women are equal and have equally important roles, especially when that role is staying home to work as a mother/wife home-maker, care-giver and all of the other things she desires to do because she isn't caught up in the rat-race . We NEED stay at home moms to take care of their own children without the scrutiny of feminist militants' rant and wrath. The problem with the liberal dems is that they support the feminist ideology which has been a great detriment to pur society.

Hillary, HELP!
Tell me what to do.
Should I write your name on the ballet?
Should I not vote at all?
Should I vote for McCain?
or Should I vote for Obama?

What would you want me to do? Give us a sign

what if?   August 11th, 2008 7:50 am ET

What if Obama doesn't get the nomination? How funny would that be?

Delegates too can flip flop on things.

For all Hillary supporters out there….

Write in her name on Election Day instead of voting for McCain

I guess Michele is "really" proud of her country now with the celebrity status she has due to "people magazine" article with her family and other exploitations of her children by her and BO. She has a lot of people to thank, including all MSM except fox news who is fair and balanced.

Mark Ramsey MD Milwaukee WI   August 11th, 2008 7:37 am ET

if you're serious about unity, unify the democratic party. Surprise us on Tuesday and announce hillary as your VP choice. You can keep her on msg and under control, as well as her husband. That would be the best msg of unity you could send.

Sue in MI   August 11th, 2008 7:32 am ET

Oh, good. That means Hillary will be speaking on Tuesday AND Wednesday.Go Hillary!

Pat   August 11th, 2008 7:29 am ET

Two Bright, Vibrant, Savvy , Intellectual Females in the White House would win my vote for Obama! Especially given the other choice of an old, worn, weathered, senile, Washington Insider who not only thinks like Bush, has the same ideals as Bush but is now opting to put the same old Bush cronies beside him in the White House! I guess the old adage is true. "You can't teach Old Dogs new tricks." Embraces from old Bush Cronies might be all McSame can look forward to!
