McCain and Gov. Ridge took part in a National Security roundtable in January.

ERIE, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Tom Ridge might be a long-shot in the vice presidential sweepstakes, but John McCain certainly holds him in high esteem.

The presumptive GOP nominee, who refuses to discuss the vetting process for potential running mates, heaped praise on his friend and adviser on Monday in Ridge’s hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania.

At one point, a GE employee at a brief town hall meeting here asked McCain what his plans would be for his first 90 days in office.

“Call Tom Ridge to Washington from whatever vacation he is taking and get him to work,” McCain answered, to much applause.

Selecting Ridge, a Catholic and former two-term governor of Pennsylvania, could boost McCain’s chances in this swing state. But Ridge also supports abortion rights, a factor that would likely turn off segments of the Republican base.

McCain said he was “honored” to know Ridge, “who had every opportunity after he graduated from Harvard not to go to Vietnam. He could have found a doctor that would have a given a cert that he bad a bad knee. But instead he went and decided to serve his country during the Vietnam War.

“He came back here to Erie and he decided to be a prosecutor, and then he decided to seek a role, a seat in congress and then of course as governor,” McCain continued. That’s the kind of people this part of America produces. I’m proud to be in his company.”

Since FDR, LBJ, and the rest of the Welfare State.

By planning to send supporters … and all media people that have signed up … an EMAIL outlining his VP selection, Obama can wait until after the start of the convention to make the announcement and still make it before the VP is scheduled to speak at the convention.

Imagine a world where a political/governmental "secret" is kept until the last possible moment. Hallelujah!!

John McCain may have to committ to his VP before Obama because this shrinks the amount of time McCain will have to prepare around this point for the Republican convention.

Great strategic move by Team Obama ….

I think John needs to cut his ties with the Bush Adminstration…….anyone, anytime, anywhere, anything. Bad choice…. better choice ??? Romney !! Romney should be the pick.

Tom Ridge has zero credibility. He's become such a joke that I cringe every time he's about t open his mouth (and I'm a die-hard Republican). He can't help John McCain but most definitely can hurt the ticket. Please don't do it, John… my vote for you is hanging by a thread as it is.

Independent-Latina-for-OBAMA   August 11th, 2008 3:41 pm ET

Well, McCain can choose whomever he likes. The FACTS ARE THAT THE GOP HAS CONTROLLED THE CONGRESS & SENATE FROM 1994-2006…… AND WHAT DID THEY DO?

THEY STARTED A WAR BASED ON LIES.

THEY DOUBLED THE NATIONAL DEBT FROM $5.7 TRILLION TO……ALMOST $10 TRILLION.

THEY GAVE THE WEALTHIEST 1% OF OUR NATION (THANK YOU,BUSH WE LIKED IT) A TAX BREAK………. WHILE THEY COULD NOT AFFORD TO PAY FOR THE WAR WITH IRAQ AND ASKED CHINA………SAUDIS……..AND DUBAI FOR MONEY!

THE WAR WITH IRAQ IS STILL COSTING HARD-WORKING-AMERCIANS…….. $1.38 TRILLION A DAY!

BUT THE FAR RIGHT NEVER ADDRESSES THEIR FAILURES NOR HOW THEY WILL SOLVE THE HUGE MESS BUSH/CHENEY/MCCAIN HAVE LEFT OUR NATION IN!

FOUR MORE YEARS OF THE GOP??? NO THANKS!

John   August 11th, 2008 3:40 pm ET

Do the Hillary supporters who keep repeating "18 million people support Hillary!" realize that 18 million other people support Obama? If Clinton somehow steals the nomination at the convention, don't expect the 18 million Obama supporters to give her the time of day. If Hillary loses the election for Obama in November, don't expect the 18 million Obama supporters to give her the time of day in 2012. We still can't figure out why we're supposed to support somebody who, with all that vaunted experience, couldn't manage to run a campaign and win.

Latinos for Obama   August 11th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

Regarding presidential ambition, here's what McCain said in his book Worth The Fighting For, p. 373, published September 2002:

I didn't decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president.

After the Keating 5 he thought all was lost but he used the press to rehabilitate his image and they created the myth of the straight talking maverick (Huffington Post).

Whomever McSame selects has a great chance of becoming President if the American's are as stupid as they've been in voting for Bush. I wonder how many are doing better then they were nine years ago. How many lives would have been saved in Iraq and Louisania (Katrina)? How much would our deficit be, compared to what it is today. Anyway, those of you that are still stuck in the 50's – you'll get what you deserve.

Obama 08 & 12

John   August 11th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

"You know what, I hope McCain wins – and I'm a life long Democrat."

I hear a lot of people saying that.

Emphasis on the "saying" part. Real easy to say "I'm voting for the Republican, and that should carry some kind of extra weight because I claim to be a life-long Democrat".

Zell Miller was a life long "Democrat" also. Hate to break it to you, but the era of the Dixiecrats has ended.

Even picking Jesus Himself will not help McCane.

As the media are discussing John Edrwards' infidelity, questions about McCane's cheating behind his invalid wife with Cindy should and must come out.

When he met her, he lied to her about his age, and by his own words, "zeroed in on her." You owe it to the integrity of your profession to inform the American people.

It is rediculus that the media discusses the infidelity of a man who is not in in office, nor is he running for president for days now, and ignores John McCane's brutal and inhumane treatment of his invalid ex-wife.

Shame on you CNN. Even if the other news organizations don't tell the American people the truth about John McCane, you should. After all, you are the only one claiming to be the Best Political Team on Television.

p.s. I know you will not print this, but at least discuss the possiblity of shining light on the "character" of John McCain in your staff meetings. Hopefully there will be enough decent journalists left at CNN to see the need for covering the REAL news: John McCane and his abusive behavior towards his ex-wife.

McCain has to wait for Obama, the next commander in chief, to make his decision, in other words McCain will react to whomever Obama picks, it just goes to show that McCain is not a leader, he is weak and undecisive. If he cant trust himself to make his own decision as to whom he should pick how can we had him the country to make decisions about War and Peace?.

Deb, Allentown, PA   August 11th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Oh yes, Mike in Syracuse, let's please open that Pandora's box about Edwards. Do you really want to go there?

On the Democratic side, we have a guy who cheated on his ill wife with a woman who wasn't wealthy or considerably younger than he. He also ISN'T the presumptive nominee. Obviously he was thinking with his much-smaller head as opposed to the one with a brain it it.

On the Republican side, we have a guy who cheated on his crippled wife with a number of people, finally picking one considerably younger who had scads of money. Then he applied for a marriage license before his divorce was even final. He wasn't only thinking with the much-smaller head; he was thinking with his wallet. Oh yeah, and he's the presumptive nominee for POTUS.

Now, do you really want to see which one wins the slime ball contest? That's the only vote of mine that McCain will get.

Going with a Better Option   August 11th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

Obama has stumbled into a blind date with a nymphomaniac – his luck couldn't be better. All Obama has to do is wait and not do anything tremendously stupid between now and November, and he will win. And you all post the exact same things…. also it's not intelligent to under exagerate the space Tom Ridge created between him and bush in 04. Also he proved himself in the regan administration to be peace oriented, this is much more important then being part of the Bush administration and becoming frustrated and not returning.

Ridge is a good person, politically and morally. But Mitt Romney is more appropriate at this time and place. His above average ability to "tell it like it is" and his experience as an executive in state government, plus achievements in economic matters are exactly what McCain needs in a Vice President. McCain's no-nonsense double capabilities in handling domestic and foreign problems vs. the pop-star qualities of his opponent are remarkable. Together, McCain and Romney make the strongest ticket to guide this country through these perilous times.

Tony   August 11th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Tom Ridge was as complicit as everyone else in Bush's administration. We don't need anymore liars in positions of power.

PA resident   August 11th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

How pathetic! What about someone who actually cares about the people, I could care less about his homeland security! I need security with being able to keep my job, to get a salary that keeps up with rising cost of gas and food, to pay my mortgage and medical expenses. What about that type of security? Does the republican party even understand that? I live in PA, my state is in need of help and jobs now!

My Friends, let me tell you   August 11th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Tom Ridge will be in my cabinet and he will scare you daily just to make sure your not sleeping at night.

susie   August 11th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

The mainstream media has been conning the public since the primaries. To bad we can't fire them all! Most middle age and older Americans don't have computers, again, Obama is just too elite for them.
Also, needs to be the American flag and take off his logo on tail of his plane. He's running for President of USA not of the World!

Ryan   August 11th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

How exciting! I, for one, plan to stock up on plastic sheeting and duct tape to celebrate!

Frank Lee   August 11th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

Aw, jeez. Is this a code red alert, or what? Ridge?

McCain must be nuts

Michelle, PA   August 11th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

As a PA voter, I can tell you choosing Ridge is NOT the way to win PA. The man may still be popular in his hometown of Erie, but that region is already strongly Republican. Otherwise, his years as Homeland Security Secretary in the Bush Administration allowed him to fail publicly and spectacularly in raising the security level for American ports, nuclear plants, borders, chemical facilities, food supply and on and on and on. If McCain is smart, he will choose somebody who hasn't been a mediocre lackey of the failed Bush Administration.

Cindy   August 11th, 2008 1:20 pm ET

I don't care. Tom Ridge? Mitt Romney? Same ol same ol. Both results will be the same.

So Mr. Rove, political analysis, please. Are these not political choices as well? Boring news week… and it's only just started. Bring back Obama please.

anyomous   August 11th, 2008 1:19 pm ET

no rommey for vp

Jason   August 11th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Wake me when this geriatric festival that McCain is on is over please. This man is way too old to be president. HIS lack of experience will prove itself soon. There are 2 and only 2 qualifications to be President.. Age 35+ and have been born in the United States.. Anything else than that is a plus but not a requirement, although the Repubs will make you think otherwise!! He is a Washington insider, has lots of lobbyists running his campaign. McCain like all republicans will choose another old white guy to serve as his running mate.. Republicans think that women should stay home and do the job of a woman and not have a voice. Republican'ts make me sick. McCain will start WW3 he has already said he wants to bomb Iran. Doing just that will start WW3. McCain is all about war and more war. Sure he has plans. Plans to keep troops occupying Iraq for 50-100 years.. Drilling will not ease our oil obsession, it will take 3-5 years before that oil would reach America.. By then, gas prices will be $6/gallon..

About the color coded alerts. Doesn't yellow mean chicken? scared? yellow-bellied? .. Tom Ridge is a doofus and is a yes man for Bush. If America votes McCain in as President, I'm renouncing my citizenship!!

Native Arizonan against McCain!! Anti-Puma

Grandma   August 11th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

You media/puma/republicans guys don't get it do you? This is a campaign paid for and sponsored by ordinary Americans so Obama is answerable to us first before the media; and that is how Obama will rule the country a government OF the people, FOR the people and BY the American people. GET USED TO IT
McSame could care less about American jobs, so long as the war machine keeps humming. McWar only wants investment in war, death and destruction. McCain does not have anything to say even on his add. We know him always crying about media attention and when he has it he talk about Obama. Media putting Obama under microscope and they can not find anything and now all I see McCain TV add for free in all the stations. McCain is follower and Obama is the leader. He had all week to talk about energy and all he said all the above is my plan he never give any $ or brake down on his plan he said “ALL THE ABOVE “he means Obama plans, More McLies by omission. Please ask him what his plans are about the war he just says we need to win just like a child not just like a leader. Senator Obama is a leader young like Kennedy and Celebrity like Ragan. But McBush promised a campaign of integrity.
Surely we can trust McCain to be honest with us and keep his promises.

Tel It Like It Is   August 11th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

Duct tape
Plastic wrap for windows
Air filtration masks
Color coded threats
FIASCO track record
Waste of tax payer dollars to proliferate BUREAUCRACY
Remember the Homeland Security Convention in HAWAII

YEA, WHAT A GREAT CHOICE FOR VP

All the integrity of a bowl full of toliet water

McCain IS LOSING HIS MIND

REALIST NJ   August 11th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

Oh you poor liberals!!!! you have no chance ANYTHING to try and make something out of nothing.

Note: Tom Ridge was a popular 2 term Governor. He is just one of a few people that support Mccain. Who ever he picks will be popular and will win the election. Stop saying the GOP is stupid. Thats why the Democrats can't ever win the presidency, there stupidity and arrogance just cant seem to be put to the side.

I sat in a room of 100 hard core Democrats in NJ AT MY JEWISH NEPHEWS WEDDING, 3 SAID THEY WERE VOTING FOR OBAMA. When the Democratic senate and congress do nothing the Republicans will be in full control again, the difference this time is John Mccain will be the President and the results will be much different!!!

The Democratic Mayor of Linden,NJ IS ENDORSING JOHN MCCAIN!!!HOW ABOUT THAT.

Batman   August 11th, 2008 1:15 pm ET

Hillary, HELP!
Tell me what to do.
Should I write your name on the ballet?
Should I not vote at all?
Should I vote for McCain?
or Should I vote for Obama?

What would you want me to do? Give us a sign

NEVER OBAMA   August 11th, 2008 1:13 pm ET

obama supporters = fools that will believe anything.

Dave of Oregon   August 11th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

How does Tom Ridge counter anything that Obama comes up with? Ridge looks a lot like Kemp and he is all but forgotten in the '96 campaign with Dole! One would think that careful thinking regarding a vice presidential candidates would take into consideration Obama's penchant for forward thinking which McCain is not apparently doing! Slam, dunk for Obama!

Ken   August 11th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

I wonder who got the most penetration from McCain's nose: Ridge or Bush?

DIZIZI31   August 11th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

Tom Ridge former Dept of Homeland Security – who gave up our rights to privacy!!. WOW – let's vote this man into office. Sure let Ridge get the experience, since McCain has decided to be a lame duck only (4) years.

California Gold   August 11th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

That's all well and good but will McCain be able to remember his name tomorrow and what state he is from?

mm   August 11th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

You all must have forgotten what happen in Vietnam. A lot of young people died for nothing and McCain claims to be the only HERO along with the media. If McCain is elected, be ready for WORLD WAR THREE.

James   August 11th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

This is ridiculous.

There is no way the republican "base"-the religeous right – is going to turn out to support a luke warm candidate in McCain and a PROCHOICE governor in Ridge.

This is just more meaningless fodder to attract attention and convince independents that McCain is still a Maveric. A title he gladly gave up to be the republican nominee 2years ago.

Bill   August 11th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

Isn't Ridge one of the national security honchos spewing so much paranoid crap after 9/11?? Who wants this guy for VP?? Obama fans maybe…

Mike, Syracuse, NY   August 11th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

Obama/Edwards '08 The perfect pair. One can't keep his mouth zipped, the other can't keep his fly zipped.

Maggie Muggins From Selwyn   August 11th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

People should be paying close attention when McCain states the first thing he will do is call Tom Ridge to Washington within the first 90 days after he gets elected.

If that doesn't prove all McCain can get for cabinet posts and adviers are George Bush cronies nothing will. Phil Gramm is all McCain has for a financial adviser so he will get to Washington before Ridge and that will quiet all you Yankee whiners.

BudInTexas   August 11th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

John McCaign campaigning with Tom Ridge – where is Cindy? She needs to be right next to him to make sure he does not do to her like he did his ex-wife.

Kevin   August 11th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

Nice, choose the guy who created color coded Terror threat levels. The great part is since the 2004 Elections, no one has mentioned it since it occured to people that it is as much a Terrorist tool as bombs or videotaped threats.

Hey, Mr. McCain, when can you pull out the GOP slug that latched itself to your spine and think for yourself again? I miss the John MCCain the Republicans didn't like. That guy could givE Obama a run. You? Nope, just another puppet.

McCain’s PHONY EXPRESS   August 11th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

So that’s all McCain is going to do in his first 90 days? Call Tom Ridge?

McCain’s plan sounds a lot like Bush’s plan except that he called Cheney!

Ted van Tol   August 11th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

As I heard McCain speek about the Russian/Georgien conflict
I heard an old, tired man speaking words of the past. No one wil listen. It is realy sad that this man runs for the Presedency.
The new Cheneys of the Republicans are whispering every line
in his ear. I realy am sorry for him and I am sure that he wil be done
even before november.
America needs change now!

Obama 2008

TheOtherSide   August 11th, 2008 12:59 pm ET

Now that you've closed comments on McCain on Russia action in Georgia, i have to make it here. This mans' temper is dangerous for a POTUS. don't vote him in. he will initiate world war III.

VP (running mate)
He has a mental freezer he can't announce his running mate yet. he is waiting for Obama only to attack him negatively about the choice.Gobama

Zolesh   August 11th, 2008 12:58 pm ET

Do you remember this Man Tom Ridge. He was the guy behind the 2004 fear mongering ring of the McBush Admin by crafting the weekly if not hourly color code threat level thing Bush used to scare voters in 2004 to scare voters.

Another reminder of how McCain=BUSH and about what you get if you vote for McCain, more of the same.

Chris   August 11th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

OMG…I hope he pick Ridge!!!
The Democrats will have a field day with this guy in their campaign ad.

El Paso, TX   August 11th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

What's up McSame, worried about your poll numbers? Have you fallen and you can't get up?

ANGIE   August 11th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

I live in pa and when Ridge was govenor he did nothing, Any way Ridge helped Bush with his fear mongering, Remember the color coded security alerts so he lied right along with bush using their fear to scare americans!!!!!!!

karen-phoenix   August 11th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

Another too old, too out dated!!!!! Lost in the past!!! AND toooo connected to Washington lobbiests!!

Farrell, Houston, Tx   August 11th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

Good choice McCain, picking Tom Ridge is like a kiss of death.

Brandon Tobias   August 11th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

I am an independent with much more liberal views than "conservative", however I am from Harrisburg, PA and Tom Ridge was one of the best governors we have had. I have no doubt in my mind that he would do a good job and this country would be a much better place had George Bush picked him as his VP instead of the evil Cheney. Tom Ridge is a good man and a good person to have in charge, don't bash him if you don't know what your talking about. This would be a smart pick for McCain in my opinion.

Bill, Covington   August 11th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

bob in L.A.

My thoughts exactly. They (news media) can't get anything right where the Republican party is concerned. They are all so tingley and excited by the thought of the negro-caucasian candidate that they loose sight of all things real and relevant.

Peter   August 11th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

Is this the McCain strategy to win Pennsylvania?

How about helping the economy, bringing the soldiers from Pennsylvania home, paying attention to the environment, etc insteading of this pandering?

Michele, Oregon   August 11th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

On another ticker it says that Republicans prefer Romney. That should bring all the Latinos into Obama's court as Romney wants to ship every illegal immigrant back to where they came from. Said it very cavalierly in the debates………..Does he have any Native American blood in him; just wondering…..

Or…Let McCain pick Ridge who has sided with the same Republican ilk in power……..More of the same……… But it is all media right now until announcements are made.

w.l. jones   August 11th, 2008 12:51 pm ET

I here so much about empty-suit in this election that it make me sick. Who you want to represent you? A stock boy are a Lawyer :quite sure a person who read the fine print when it come to our security. When come time for VP you want that person you can commucate on your level.

Caroline   August 11th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

JB—-oh yes indeedy……..I'm with you.

Obama/Feingold '08

Oliver   August 11th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

As an Obama supporter, I am increasingly worried about his chances of actually beating McCain. As my case of Obama-fatigue sets in, I am realizing that McCain is more deserving and more experienced than Obama to be president. And I am not very clear on where Obama stands on certain issues, and I fear that neither does he.

Celebrity for Peace   August 11th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

More proof that McCain is Bush and the same old crew will remain in Washington if he is elected …….. time for change people and McWar isn't change he is simply more of the same.

Mikey   August 11th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Does this mean McCain is going to delegate the Office of President to someone else? Perhaps he can offshore it to, say, India. I'll bet we can find someone who can do a very competent job at a fraction of the salary.

All of you white collar types out there who have little sympathy for all the manufacturing jobs that have been lost to China, Mexico, and other parts of the world, you may have another thing comming when suddenly a large portion of engineering, accounting, IT, and finance, and similar jobs disappear becasue anyone with a computer in China or India can do your job, and probably for 1/2 the salary or less.

I guess then all of these trade issues will hit home for you. Wonder who you are going to go crying to.

….. and if it doesn't happen to you, perhaps it will to your kids or grandkids.

Eyes Wide Open   August 11th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Once again Hillary has proven that she can't be trusted. No sooner had Barack turned his back, then she started campaigning for herself. Oh, what a surprise–NOT. She is the most selfish, self-centered person on the planet, and she will sell her own mother if it would get her back in the White House.

I have an idea, why doesn't she jump ship, again, and run for Queen of the Dishonest, Lying, Cheating People. She would win hands down. And she can take her disloyal (there's another surprise) husband with her.

pat C.   August 11th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

they match. both of them are old cronies that know nothing except war. what you bet they are sitting there at lunch talking about "the serge". old days of vietnam. this just adds another layer to old folks home should be's! McCain has such bad choice in people, just like his bad choices in what he will do for us in america.

Chips   August 11th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Obama 08

No Hillary, Yes Obama   August 11th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Clinton will not be the VP, and Obama will win. Why? Because the people have spoken, and we don't want dishonest people in the White House. We've had enough with Bush, why would we put Clinton in there–they're the same.

proud army and navy mom   August 11th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

so?

My Friends, let me tell you   August 11th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Im going to Bugtussle, Georgia now to speak with Zell Miller and end this war.

McCaiNOTzis   August 11th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

The same feeling that Hilary had when she realized she had lost, will be the feeling McCain and Cindy will have on November 5th. It's the feeling that Dems had when Bush stole the first election.

It's also the same feeling we had when Bush bullied his way into the White House in 2004, with the help of Karl Rove, who needed to keep his job. When the house started falling, all the rats, like Rove began to run. And they're still running. McCain and Bush will NEVER run away from the fact that Americans made a huge mistake. Well– never again, not this time, not ever.

So that's why Bush is in China, he's got nothing else to do. His legacy will be one of sorrow and pain. And now McCain is tying himself to this loser. November will be sweet.

Jonathan, Hartford, CT   August 11th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

Ridge has universal appeal.

Peter   August 11th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

Im sick of saying this! McCain/Ridge 08=

Obama: 528
McCain: 10 (Arizona)

MikeH   August 11th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

Tom Ridge seems like a reasonably good person, too bad he affiliated himself with the most corrupt political party in recent American history.

I suppose he could work out a color-code system to indicate how lost, dazed, and confused McCain is for that day.

ProudToBeDemocrat   August 11th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

I think Wolf Plizer is obssesed with the V.P pick crap or he is trying to create a news where there is no news.

Dave, Illinois   August 11th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Funny, "Mike Dallas", hateful smart-as! Obamites like you will be part of the reason for Obama's defeat come November. I can't wait to hear your type whine and cry then!

Barbara - 65 yr old white female in NC   August 11th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

Bet half the population of PA is throwing up at this one !!!!!

When are you all going to show the clip about McCain saying at a townhall meeting earlier this year "……. and we will never have to go to war for oil again……."

Please show that cliip over and over. We got all of Obama's stuff over and over for months. Georgia has pipelines going thru it – that's why the repukes are so interested. Oil Oil Oil Oil Oil Oil

Fair and balanced should mean fair in ALL ways.

Miguel   August 11th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Ridge is perfect, a younger, nastier more evil bastard than Dick Cheney. And he looks like an evil cartoon character to top it all off.

Tanya   August 11th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

Tom Ridge?! Orange alert, orange alert!

Michael, Torrance, CA   August 11th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

I think Tom Ridge would be a good choice fpr McCain as VP. I like the fact that he is conservitive and also pro choice.

The Bush Twins : George and John   August 11th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

Tom Ridge is a joke. I did not have any confidence in him when he was the head of homeland security. He was a "player" then and still is.
But of course that's all the repubs are for each other, (and their master
Cheney).

Dem   August 11th, 2008 12:34 pm ET

Bush has destoyed our economy so thoroughly, I actually hope that McCain wins. The next President is going to inherit such a mess that their party will be linked with the disaster for decades. Elect McCain and it will be the last "Republican" elected for years!!

- Democrat for Bush's third term

Carl, Atlanta   August 11th, 2008 12:34 pm ET

That McSame would respect this imbicile is just one more piece of evidence that he is not qualified to be President of the U.S. We don't need anymore of the criminal hold-overs from the Reagan and Bush years.

Tom   August 11th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

I won't vote for McSame but I will give Tom Ridge credit for 'wising up' and getting away from the Bush/Cheney cabinet in 2004.

David   August 11th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

McCain was a traitor in Vietnam! A bad pilot who squeeled to the enemy!

He is yet another mouthpiece for the failed policies of the current moron in office!

He does not stand for any true conservative values!

Bob Barr '08

NoMcSame   August 11th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

Better than the ANTICHRIST MORMON Mitt Romney. That is what our Bible calls him and them don't blame me. The only way to the Father is through the son. Not through Joseph Smith. What a Joke he is. They are even changing his words. Joseph Smith was a RACIST and Mitt is a follower of his and lives and believes in his word.
McSame can pick whoever he want but it will not make a difference.
Obama08

Kathy   August 11th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

And this is the guy who manipulated our terror warning system to help out Bush in 2004. He even questioned the raise in terror warnings but did it anyway like a good little Bushie! WE DON'T NEED ANY MORE BUSHIES IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!!!

Ed Ward   August 11th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

The same Tom Ridge that quit Homeland Security to spend more time with this family? Is Gramps just pandering to the voters of PA?

This is very Erie………………..

Yuck, I know Tom Ridge, what a jerk. Should go with Jindahl. Then we can make Cowboy and Indian jokes.

Republicans Hate America   August 11th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

sorry McLoser you still dont get my vote

Veteran for Obama   August 11th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

McCain may be a military veteran but he greatly exaggerates his accomplishments. He is no better than the 4200 plus soldiers who have been killed in Iraq and sacrificed their life at the expense of McCain and Bush and their manipulation of facts in order to go to war. At least McCain survived and is able to walk around and tell lies and dirty jokes like he has been doing. He is sick.

Ed Ward   August 11th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

The same Tom Ridge that quit Homeland security because he needed to make more money and spend more time with his family?

This is very Erie, alright…………………………

MainStream   August 11th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

Ok, McCain, he is your ticket maker open minded pro-choice that would be one small step for the Republican Redemtion and one Giant leap to the CENTER. As and Independent I would select a Mainstream Administration and a Bi-Partiasan Cabinet that would be a mainstream ideal ticket.

Tom Ridge campaigned hard for George Bush Senior, Bob Dole, and George W Bush. Neither of these candidates won Pennsylvania.

People in Erie are struggling from a poor economy and watching the Iraq war claim more and more lives.

They are going to vote for change, not more of the GOP same.
