Crown Publishers will release Obama's new book in September.

(CNN)—Campaign advertisements, campaign stops, how about campaign books?

Crown Publishers, a division of Random House, will publish Barack Obama’s third book September 9 aimed at highlighting the Illinois senator’s plans to re-vamp Washington politics

“Change We Can Believe In: Barack Obama’s Plan to Renew America’s Promise,” will include a foreword written by the presumptive Democratic nominee where he will detail his policy stances and the importance of this election. Members of Obama’s campaign staff also penned chapters detailing the Illinois senators proposals on healthcare, energy, and national security, according to the Associated Press

The book, which will be released in an audio and e-book version on September 8, will also feature a compilation of seven speeches Obama has given throughout the course of his campaign including his address in Berlin and the declaration of his candidacy for president.

Obama’s two previous books, “Audacity of Hope” and “Dreams from My Father” - also published by Crown Publishers - both rose to the top of the bestseller lists with a combined four million-plus copies currently in print.

“We are proud to have published two bestselling books by Barack Obama and are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to work with his campaign on such an important and inspiring book at this critical moment in our country,” said Crown President Jenny Frost in a statement

The terms of the book were agreed upon by Crown President Jenny Frost and Obama’s literary representative Robert B. Barnett of Williams & Connolly. Barnett , who has represented both Obama and Clinton in their book deals, helped to find a middle ground between the two campaign staffs after Clinton dropped out of the presidential race.

Isn't it sad how ugly some of these comments are?

kim hussein taylor portland, oregon   August 11th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

"or simply line his pockets?" and this is bad why???? since when is there something wrong with a person being paid for their time and skills???? as long as they arent a criminal making money off their crime or victim, everyone is paid for their work, including republican scuzzballs like hannity and rush, too. you repugs are so hard ot figure out, like your heroes you dont want to let anyone take any of your hard-earned money, but there's something wrong with obama keeping the money. at least we know some of it will go to charity, etc..., which is a lot more than can be said for the righty pigs!

souza   August 11th, 2008 6:25 pm ET

I think people should take the time to read a book that is unbiased about Obama. I would suggest " The Obama Nation" Written by a senior reporter that is not a registered Republican or Democrat.
Obama is not Presidential Material and flip flops as it benefits him.

KenM   August 11th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Obama made a lot of money with his last book...that book made more money than his wife 'n' him combined over the last five years...Obama is becoming rich 'n' famous doing this campaign....it doesn't matter if he wins or loses this fall.......he's already made suckers out of the lemmings........he doesn't have to worry 'bout a mortgage or the price of gas.......he's set for life with this campaign

Errata   August 11th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Obama is actually putting his positions in a print/audio book? How can that be when he flips on his positions every day depending to whom he is speaking? Or is the book going to be so nuanced as to really not say anything?

kim hussein taylor portland, oregon   August 11th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

"but can't articulate anything on the campaign trail."

ummm, you do realize that the intelligent, articulate candidate is that YOUNG guy, not the OLD guy, right?????

too bad the idiots who need to read this the most dont read books; unless it's on FOX or rush they dont know it exists.

The Independent One   August 11th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

this is nice. Maybe in the book he'll explain his flopping on NAFTA and FISA. FISA is the American government's middle finger to our fourth amendment, and NAFTA deports too many jobs overseas. I would be much less angry with Obama if he didn't have a decidedly different stance today on these issues then he did earlier this year. I think the republican "revisions" to FISA were shallow at best. Obama seems to be moving too much to the center for my taste. It's good to have bipartisan appeal but not at the expense of core principles cited merely months earlier. I am really starting to think that Obama is much more of a diplomat then an actual leader. That's better than McCain, a corporate pushover like Bush, but it's not the Obama that inspired me in the primaries. I saw in Obama this wonderful "stick it to Washington" attitude that I thought was so refreshing. That crisp breeze was later destroyed the his BS posturing ever since he won the democratic nomination. I am really dissappointd with Obama but, alas, I have no other choice. I was going to vote Bob Barr, but then I saw him on Glenn Beck saying that global warming is a myth. That sort of naive and even retarded ignorance of the state of our environment makes it impossible for me to vote for him. Even McCain himself acknowlegdes "climate change" which is the new politically correct form of global warming. Whatever you want to term it, its the holes in the ozone on the poles that are melting the icecaps and negatively affecting the climate. The fact that this is happening is beyond dispute to everyone but silly scientists lobbying for oil companies. Anyone can argue that global warming doesn't exist like anyone can argue that 1+1 doesn't equal 2. Just shows how naive they are. And as for the green party candidate, well she obviously doesn't stand a chance, and the media has not even given her any knd of platform where i could make a judgement on her compotence or stances. So Obama it is, for better or worse.

People, give it the same respect OJ Simpson got with the infamous "I'm going to tell you the truth."

Cynthia   August 11th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

I think it is a new and fresh idea to put him plan in writing. Everyone isn't always watching tv or reading the paper which sometimes give their own slant as to what they candidate is saying. John McCain doesn't need to write a book – all you have to do is look and what President Bush has done and substract 5% of it and you will have his plan since he agreed with President Bush 95% of the time.

Amala   August 11th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

I meant to say even John Kennedy's book was NOT solely written by him so far as I recall. I did some research about it and that's what I remember reading. In any case, that's not the main point.

America is diverse, we have all economic, ethnic, educational and wisdom levels. Let's bring out the best that is America!

Obama '08!

Kevin Cochrane   August 11th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

I think this is disgusting that he is personally going to profit from running his own election campaign.

Unless he donates 100% of all profits to charity, he has completely lost my vote.

I am shocked and dismayed by this blatant money-making move. Why not just publish everything in the book on a blog? Why make us pay for his views when they are so critical to the decision the country must make?

What about those of us who are unemployed and can't AFFORD to buy the book in the first place?

Wow, I am so entirely disallusioned. Obama, you lost me entirely.

Amala   August 11th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

The bulk of this book was already on his website and easily accessible for downloading. This nation has to embrace a new paradigm. To do that, we have to use every tool possible including publishing a book of ideas. What presidential candidate ever wrote every single word they put out either vocally or in text? Even John Kennedy's book was solely authored by him. Obama's first two books were authored by him and this latest book states up front that others also have essays or articles so it is a collaborative effort. Social change takes great leadership on every level and extensive exhaustive collaboration on every level too. I'm glad that he's publishing this book. By whatever peaceful means necessary...it's time to change!

Young VA man who supports McCain!   August 11th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

It'll really be interesting when I get my hands on this book, since Obama has changed his view on some issues WAY too much. I can finally see what his final views and supports are for once!

PS: Does anyone notice that there are too many spammers on here that support Obama and know nothing about politics, they just like him because everyone dislikes Bush, therefore also the GOP party?

Mac   August 11th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Do we have to pay for this? Shouldn't his agenda be public knowledge if he wants my vote?

Annette   August 11th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

McCain and the supporters that support his campaign, are extremely envious of the Obama campaign. They call Obama supporters mindless, to offend. It's pitiful when you have to disguse your own weakness through someone's else strength. That's not the virtue of a leader, that's a follower McCain.

Phil-Texas   August 11th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

For a person who hasn't done much politically and already written 3 books. Sounds like someones trying to make a buck. I hope americans open their eyes and ask some questions on how Obama is going to get the change factor to work. The repuklicans aren't just going to roll over and die. Also the country has been run by big oil and business for so long they have long meat hooks in all politicians or almost all. I hope things can work out but I will believe it when I see it.

SKS - West Des Moines, IA   August 11th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

Ben...Maybe if he can get us to buy more books, the ignorance people like you are obviously so proud of can be dealt with once and for all. Makes you wonder how smart you and others like you can be if two of the dumbest people in America (Hannity and Rush) are your heroes. Get a book (any book) and read something. You might get some of those dormant neurons fired enough to really become a free thinking human being.

He writes another book, just like a Hollywood celebrity! You will find this one on the shelf sandwiched in between books written by Tori Spelling and Valerie Bertinelli. Very Presidential!!! Shouldn't all of his opinions be freely available to the voters? Are we going to have debates where he will not answer questions and refer everyone to his book? I guess he has enough people who want to give him their money, so why not take advantage of it? I hope you donors will enjoy giving this guy your money this much after he gets elected.

MBFLA   August 11th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

RRO   August 11th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

Every time Obama talks about how he is going to spend the money currently being used for Iraq on social programs in the United States I wonder, isn't the US currently deficit spending like crazy. Iraq is a major reason for the deficit, so if you get out of Iraq wouldn't it make more sense to simply stip spending that money so you don't further cripple future generations. Wouldn't it be better to cut wasteful pork barrell spending in Washington.

He is making promises with money that in reality doesn't exist. The money being spent on Iraq is money the country doesn't have. Obama will never ballance budgets this way.

This is the book Americans should read.

Do any of you CNN bloggers know what a gold standard is? Or hyperinflation? Or the federal reserve bank? Or fractional reserve banking?

The concept of our fiat currency is so simple, yet angering, that you must find out for yourself. I cannot tell you because you'd never believe me...

wonder if the all great and knowing Obama discusses this in his policies.

RRO   August 11th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

He will probably spend most of his time in the White House writing a book " How a tricked them all".

Obama has no experiance, no plans, and flip flops all over the place. His supporters follow him blindly and just to make things a little worse, the media follows him to. The media beat up Hillary and built up Barrack, now every time some negative news pops up about Obama, suddenly a story breaks about Hillary and the primary trying to make her look bad. They are setting it up to blame Hillary for Obama losing.

If you don't support Obama your a racist or uneducated or not a true democrat. Here is a crazy idea, could it be that educated people stopped looked at Obama's credentials, looked at his complete lack of a solid plan and strategy and his complete lack of knowledge which has lead to his many flip flops on issues. How about the way he allows political expediancy to trump a moral stance all the time. He is backing away from his promises on Iraq, he is backing away from his promises on offshore drilling. Any time he runs in to trouble he reverses direction. He has no fight in him, and this is the guy you want to be President while we are engaged in two different wars. Sure Obama gives a nice speech, and looks good for the camera's but where is the substance.

To often people want change for the sake of change, new because it is new. Well just because someone is younger does not mean they will be a better President. Just because we have never had an African American President does not mean Obama is the best person to be the first. For the highest job in the land experiance should be a factor.

Obama has no voting record to be held to so he can claim to be anywhere. Given the way he flip flops and caves to political pressure, I have no doubt he would have voted in favour of the Iraq war because at the time Americans were demanding it.

Obama reads like an old school standard politician. Making promises he can't keep, giving pretty speeches with no plans, he is getting almost as much money from lobbyists as McCain. He is surrounded by the Democratic elite that have been doing a horrible job in the House and senate.

So let Obama write another book, that may be all he is remembered for down the road.

Not Voting in November 08'

Shannon   August 11th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

McCain is tired, and so is his speeches. Nothing new from the last campaign, or this administration. He's been a part of Washington for 20+ years. We've seen it, heard it, and know it. He's jealous-pretty obvious.

James   August 11th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

Just a little something for all you mindless republicans, PUMAS, and Clinton supporter who can't let go.

Since you clearly couldn't type the web address to his site to read what his positions and propositions are, here's a book.

Just one more source for you to ignore and act like you don't know what his positions are or what he stands for. So you can all take the "empty suit" moniker and put the bumper sticker on your bedroom mirror.

Just wishing something and saying it over and over doesn't make it true.

Republican for Obama   August 11th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

To all the ignorant haters on her claiming they won't buy his book to learn about his policies:

You don't care about his policies because if you did you would have spent the last 12 months reading about them on his website. You don't care, you simply use it as an excuse to not vote for someone no matter what he says, does, or thinks. Everything he talks about proposing is on the website with information about how to pay for it and all, imagine that!

..and the comment about him needing to line his pockets, give me a break. McCain is worth hundreds of millions and still cashes his freakin Social Security check! Talk about greedy and without moral fiber.

Have you even looked at his Official website? Obviously not or you would know what his policies are and what he plans to do to move this country forward. You sound silly and uninformed. Obama has shown 'old" Washington that the Politics of Old will not move this country back into it's rightful place of being a respected super power. Bush and cronies have done a great job trashing our image across the world. Teddy, stop hiding behind your silly arguments and get informed.

For those of you who are voting for McCain, he has shown a level of immaturity that I don't want in my president. He never discusses his plans for America. He is seething with anger and jealously with continued stupid and childish attack ads. i used to admire mcCain but he is a caricature of himself and it is sad. many of you who will vote against Obama is not because of his policies but it is the Elephant in the room: He is Black. Face it many of you just cannot bring yourselves to vote for a black man into the highest office of the land. How sad, I thought we as a nation had grown so much further but closet racist and bigots will never vote for barack or any other Balck man.

Reading the comments like "Worst...Resume....Ever.....one would have to concluse that the "mindless supporters" are heavily tied to the McCain campaign or still clinging to Hillary. Silly, unsubstantiated nonsense either to earn points for McCain prizes or to fill in a sad life by crying and whining about a candidate who didn't win due to a pathetic camapign strategy.

Lesley   August 11th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

McCain's lackluster campaign is a farce. He generates no enthusiasm when he pulls in to these town hall meetings, and from what I'm reading on blogs, he reads the same speech over and over again. His campaign is completely based on Bush's 2000 & 2004 campaigns using the very same people who ran them. At the same time, he says he's not like Bush. He endorses Bush policies, has lobbyists running his campaign, and employs Bush campaign gurus. The same people who ran Bush's White House will run McCain's if he gets elected. No original thoughts at all from McCain, just more of the same, from his campaign to his (hopeful) presidency. It truly will be 4 more years of Bush.

Jim   August 11th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

When people hated Gore for running against Bush, it was very divisive, but they moved on. With Obama, no.

He's got Hillary and McCain fighting him at the same time, even though the primaries are OVER. I love how she tries to justify her selfishness by pretending she's speaking for the "people". Well not any people she would ever be seen with, unless she's running for the presidiency.

Money, money, money makes the world - well you know the rest. It's so amusing to hear how Obama is miraculously turning everything he touches into money and more money. And yet, if one peaks underneath the thin surface of how his campaign keeps the minimum donations coming in by the millions, then one finds some strange things that are happening. For example, does the public know how "Obama's stadium speech completely sold out" actually happened. Here 'tis: Send us $5.00 and you'll be guaranteed a seat at the stadium to hear Obama speak. Nothing wrong with that except the message to the public is not in sync with the real story. Which reminds us that that's about the way of Obama's entire campaign. Say one thing, mean something else entirely different. That's why I'm switching to the "white-haired dude."

I wonder how many lies Hussein Nobama will put into this book??

Will there be ones like in his other book where:

His father met his mother 3 years after Nobama was born??? LOL...HUH?????

His uncle liberated Auschwitz??? Another of Nobamas lies.

The only people who believe Nobamas lies are the morons who support him. They are as stupid as scientologist.

Nobama is a congenital liar. Proven fact! Apparently his followers are too gullible to believe anything that doesn't come from their cult leader. Proven fact number two.

More BS from Nobama and his mindless sheep!! About the only policy he knows is "I'm a gona raise yurall taxes again and again and again and if I don't get it right the first time I'll just keep throwing money at it and then come up with some other BS to cover it up. I know, I'll blame it all on the Republicans or aliens or whatever!"

Oh my goodness, those nay-sayers-from-the-far-right are at it again! You must be jealous that there is a brilliant, decent man running for president.......... a breath of fresh air from the moron who is president right now!

What's wrong with being eloquent, brilliant? Having people LIKE you?

Sen. Obama has offered us an opportunity to REGAIN RESPECT AROUND THE WORLD. To once again be that 'SHINNING CITY ON A HILL.

The GOP-fear-hate-war-and-division-mongers can't stand it! They must demean, disrespect, destroy........ anyone whom is their polar opposite!

Well, not this time! WE KNOW what the GOP is capable of.

We KNOW what a GOP president who is the image of Bush will do!

You can't lie and destroy your way out of this one. Americans are aware of what the GOP stand for!

WAR........LIES.........DEBT..........LIES........DIVISIVENESS ........LIES......... DISRESPECT OF THE CONSTITUTION.........BIG OIL......... ENRON LOOPHOLE.......... LIES...... WAR

It's funny that you people that think Obama is a socialist think McCain is a conservative as well. What a joke. There is no conservative party. At least Obama will be constructive with our money instead of destroying other countries with unnecessary wars.

Latinos for Obama   August 11th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

As an EDUCATED American with Latino heritage I am proud to support Obama. Not only will I continue to help his campaign financially but will also buy all his books.

When I read the posts of why people are going to vote McCain I wonder where are education system has gone wrong. It boggles the mind to know that there are still many individuals that are
misinformed about Obama. But, what can we expect when these same people voted for Bush twice?

It looks like some people comment without reading the article. Obama is writing the forward and his staff is contributing chapters. It doesn't sound like the moves of a greedy man. It sounds like a campaign doing everything it can to let people know what he's all about and where he wants to lead us. It sounds like a good read for those who haven't bothered to to visit his site (which is the responsible thing for an informed voter to do). It also re-enforces those that have done their homework. Read, understand, then complain if you must - at least you'll have some credibility.

Perfect timing! This is going to separate the literate from the a-literate, i.e. Mccain followers who can read, but choose not to. This means that Barack is going to get lots of dollars. I hope he publishes it in several languages.

I don't know, but, somehow, I am getting the feeling Obama is in this whole thing for how rich it can make him,. His every action seems to show this. He wants to live in luxury and figures he has found the way to do it by fooling the public into hero worship and adolation while not actually doing anything to deserve it. At least, McCain served and suffered for his country. What has Obama sacrificed? All you admirers, ask yourself this and be honest with the answers.

You have record foreclosures

Your food prices are going up, up, up

If you're smart enough and have a large enough vocabulary, you can learn everything you need to know about Obama from his speeches, his website, and his books. He uses big words, and I know we're not used to that after eight years of Bushspeak, but buy a dictionary and learn something.

I am not an Obamabot. I'm a highly-educated non-conformist who chose to vote for Obama because I read his policies on education, health care, and foreign relations, among others. He provides a balanced view and will bring judgment and wisdom to the White House.

ron   August 11th, 2008 5:29 pm ET

the problem with sen. obama's proposals is that they are all based on suppositions. ending the war in Iraq does not necessarily mean huge saving it all depend on what else is going on in the world like Russia invading Georgia. no windfall profits to tax ect. better to stabilize the spending before adding to the deficit. oh yes re; all those donations, guess who's now in possession of your personal information and guess who's going to be getting calls and junk mail, extra money for the campaign right

Impressive to say the least.

The way he does things is certainly a breath of fresh air. I think he is rewriting what a politician is. He's already made good on his promise for change. His delivery and out of box campaigning is certainly a step in right direction. Now of Johnny would put his big boy pants on and stop dragging this campaign down we might actually see the candidates this time around.

Praetorian, Fort Myers   August 11th, 2008 5:26 pm ET

Can't wait to read it.
He did the forward–and his "brain trust" did all the chapters–based on his broad stroked vision and strategy talking points.

ANOTHER BOOK? ANOTHER WAY TO MAKE MONEY? This guy is just getting around to outlining his "proposals"???? Obama is one big marketing machine – that's it. American policy for sale. American Presidency for sale. Nominee for sale. Now his statements are being described as "nuanced" – that's another way of saying full of air. Talk about exploitation. Americans should feel fleeced, alright. Put him on a stage and keep him there – he does not belong in the White House. Hillary Clinton's name NEEDS to be placed in nomination and she NEEDS to be nominated so we can get on with the business of the people, not Obama's business ventures.

The Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   August 11th, 2008 5:21 pm ET

Obama is a fish in a small pool. He is a light weight and I suspect a lot of his followers are white trash,

That is okay they have the right to choose even though it is the wrong choice.

I prefer John McCain as a man who will keep our values and protect our nation. Obama will raise your taxes and McCain won't. McCain will allow drilling for much needed oil, while Obama won't.

So obama is like the green corn of August. Nice to look at, big and tall but not ready for prime time.

I can't wait to see all the people that called him an "empty suit" with "no substance" start attacking him for some other manufactured reason.

I think its great to see a candidate trying to make the election focus on policy instead of politics. Man-up McCain and follow the leader.

TELEPROPTERS AND BOOKS – OTHER PEOPLE WRITING. WHY DIDN'T HE COME OUT WITH THIS BOOK DURING THE PRIMARY

ben   August 11th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

Ok, let me see. He wants to sell a book instead of telling Americans what his plans are during his campaign. Kinda makes me wonder how he plans on bringing change. Maybe if he can get us to buy more books he will be able to finance all that change he has mentioned without a plan to actually pay for it.

Kelby in Houston   August 11th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

Just in case you don't know all of his campaign promises, he put them in a book. This goes for all of the people out there who say he's an empty suit or he has no plan. Do the contents of this book count as a plan? I'm sure you will find a valid reason to hate on this too.

Sherri   August 11th, 2008 5:14 pm ET

This is great news. Even though all of Senator Obama's policy plans have been on his website from the beginning, the media and detractors conveniently ignore them.
