Obama to announce VP via text, e-mail

Obama's VP choice will be announced via text messaging.
Obama's VP choice will be announced via text messaging.

(CNN) - It used to be that a presidential candidate announced his running mate at a carefully staged rally in a crucial swing state designed to boost buzz for the ticket and maximize media coverage.

But in a presidential cycle where so many of the conventional rules no longer appear applicable, Barack Obama's campaign said Sunday the Democratic VP choice will be revealed via e-mail and text messages to supporters.

"Barack Obama is about to make one of the most important decisions of this campaign - choosing a running mate," Obama campaign manager David Plouffe wrote in an e-mail to supporters Sunday night. "You have helped build this movement from the bottom up, and Barack wants you to be the first to know his choice."

Plouffe's e-mail is sure to raise speculation a running mate announcement could be imminent, even as Obama vacations in Hawaii and the Olympic Games reach full swing in Beijing. Most political observers had expected Illinois senator to announce his VP choice after the Olympics, ended in the small window before the Democratic convention.

You media/puma/republicans guys don't get it do you? This is a campaign paid for and sponsored by ordinary Americans so Obama is answerable to us first before the media; and that is how Obama will rule the country a government OF the people, FOR the people and BY the American people. GET USED TO IT!

How creative... this is a direct jab to McCain who isn't computer savy. Can McCain send an email or text anyone? Does he know what yahoo means or gmail. I doubt that. McCain08, too old to lead!

The suspense builds..Will be watching for my email. Good choice to let ardent supporters know first.

A side note – I saw an Obama registration table set up in 105-degree sun this weekend in a dirt parking – in a very impoverished area I visited. People were lined up to register like their life depended on it (& it probably does). Excellent job – Obama volunteers and supporters too!!!!!!

It looks like McWar will have to "computer savvy" real quick, to find out

who Obama "THE NEXT PRESIDENT" will pick for his VP.

I think this is a great move for Obama, sending out emails and texts to reveal the VP. Everyone has been complaining about how much airtime Obama is getting and this would be a great way to still get the information he wants across while keeping his face off TV for a little bit.

Obama's VP selection should be Paris Hilton. That would be a great ticket.

    Obama – Hilton – 08

    Secretary of State: Britney Spears

    Real change.

Obama needs to be very careful at this point. Hillary has something up her sleeve about the convention.

Brilliant. This is why Obama will win. Embraces technology and the future, not for its own sake, but with a secondary motivation: get more people signed up at his site, and then utilize them to get him elected.

Hes obeying a primary motivator of generating leads– give something, get something. He gives you early info, you sign up to help him. Smart marketing.

McCain will probably announce via telegraph.

The announcement should be made to his supporters first. The Presidential debates should only be held on C-Span. Any involvement of corp. news media is a bias slant against Obama. Afterall, he wants to change how business is done in Washington and CBS/NBC does not. These news outlets are beholding to their shareholders. Not the American people. John McCain is their corp. man.

I guess McCain won't get the news as he isn't up-to-date with computers and technology.

  23. NoMcSame

Just don't let it be Billary. PLEASE. She went out of her way to try to say that Obama is not one of them. That he is not a real American and does not have white American values what ever that is. McSame is using her notes to play the same game. Obama loves his wife and does not cheat on her like Bill did. American values? Obama is with the same woman that he swore to love before GOD and man and is still holding true. McSame ran out on his sick wife and remarried before the divorce ink dried. American Values?
Pick the best person Mr.Obama. I know that you will.

  24. Obama's got no experience

Announcing a major decision via text message???Another example proving Obama is still too young to be taken seriously as a presidential candidate.

How lame is this the change Obama is proposing texting who your running mate is.
