There's only one way to stop America's addiction to oil. And drilling for more is not it.

T. Boone Pickens has offered up a true alternative solution. We are blessed with huge reserves of natural gas. Presently, we burn much of it in power plants to make electricity. Instead, we should start switching our cars over to burn natural gas. This has been technologically possible for decades!

Then we should start building wind and solar power plants to phase out the coal and natural gas burning power plants.

We could cut our foreign oil dependency in half in ten years!

A vote for McCain is a vote for continued oil addiction.

It isnt a few cents in ten years. Its 20 percent immediately. Or did you forget the huge drop oil prices just took when the executive ban was lifted?

Pelosi and Obama are agreeing to a COMPROMISE that is greatly needed...alternative energy. The Republicans who don't like that should go take a cold shower.

What's more ridiculous is that over half of America is falling for it.

Drilling offshore lines pockets, not gas tanks. By the time this "gold mine" is opened...there'll be two customers on the block with MORE demand than we have...(India and China). That means we'll be third in line for any preferential treatment, folks.

Someone care to explain to me how WE'RE going to save a thin dime if our revenues and supplies AREN"T nationalized?

Funny how these Repubs who claim to love America so much are so ready to destroy it's nature and wildlife just so they can sound tough.

I've heard all the Dem's excuses for not drilling, and they all fail miserably. Especially the "it wouldn't have an effect for five years." The threat has ALREADY had an effect, or haven't you been watching the price of oil lately? Besides, if you'd started SEVEN years ago, when we told you to, we'd be at minus-2.

"Windfall profits" tax? Yeah, like we'd EVER see that money back in our own pockets. No thanks. Russia and Mexico tried that plan. It worked good until the cost of getting oil out of the ground went up. Now, it's failing, their production is plunging, – one of the reasons oil is expensive, declining production – and they're repealing those taxes. Intentionally advocating a failed plan... there's a word for that, and it ends with "tupid."

There's no one solution, and BOTH the D-s and R-s need to wake up and realize that. It's going to be a combination of efforts – drilling to decrease the price while we conserve, increase efficiency, and find new and better sources of power. (Hint, there's a HUGE, safe, non-polluting fusion reactor in the sky! And it's never dark in orbit!)
