Focus on the Family gets stormy response to Web video

Does focus want the Almighty to rain on the Democrats’ parade?
Does focus want the Almighty to rain on the Democrats’ parade?

(CNN) - Last month, Colorado Springs-based Focus on the Family posted a video on its Web site calling on Christians to “pray for rain” to disrupt Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at the upcoming Democratic convention in nearby Denver. Weeks later, their efforts did result in a deluge – the flood of criticism and news coverage that accompanied their decision to take down the video.

Focus officials insist the video - narrated by the man in charge of Web operations for the group’s political wing - was intended as a joke, and not a request for any divinely-inspired weather patterns.

Joke or not the QUESTION I have is: Is this the kind of thing any person who calls thenselve a CHRISTAN would say? Better take a hard look at the kind of people Focus on the Family has represent them. A real good thing to be showing our children!

This Evangelical Christian for Obama. Thinks that the IRS should rain on Focus on the Family's Tax Exempt status.

I am a Christian and will be voting for Obama in November. I find it disgusting that these people would pray for rain to foil someone else. This is not funny. Pray for peace around the world for God's sake!!!

Stay away from Obama. He is not ready for prime time.

By the way, I think Obama is like August field corn, nice to look at, big and tall but not ready yet. Obama is risky, however I think Obama and Larry Craig the two Idaho winners should team up.

    By the Way---

Obama's worldview as expressed in Berlin is much closer to the whining, hand wringing critics of Truman, Kennedy and Reagan than it is to the views of these three stalwarts of freedom.

Obama's response to evil in the world is not "We are staying in Berlin, period," "Ich bin ein Berliner" or "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall."

Obama's response is "everybody hold hands and sing Kumbaya, cuz golly gee if the world will only 'act as one,' all our troubles and all the bad guys will go away."

HOW DARE YOU – you slander two religions and have to nerve to consider yourself human.

You slander Christianity by lying and the Muslim faith by perpetrating a lie.

You are a disgrace – get behind me Satan – I rebuke you.

It was NOT a joke. They were very SERIOUS and HONEST. They are ashamed because the PEOPLE revolted and have seen the SO called evangelicals are actually DEVILS and nothing less.

In the END its all about "RACE" and this is AMERICA. The young people have to PUT AN END TO THIS MADNESS. All "Clans Men" now call themselves "Evangelicals" in White Sheets holding the Bible.

    God really has PATIENCE

It's absolutely amazing that these hypocrites think that God cares about any politics. I think His Son made that perfectly clear when he expelled the low lifes out of the temple.

Instead for the Focus on the Family to pray for rain, they should pray for repentance. They James Dotson's clowns that called themselves Christian should be ashamed of calling themselves Christian.

Those people like Focus on the Family make a complete mockery of the gospel of Jesus Christ, they are nothing but a buch of Wolves in Sheeps clothings. People like them, by their actions make non-believers criticize the gospel and don't believe in Christianity.

Focus in the Family is nothing but a legion of Muslems disguise themselves behind a Bible with the ultimate intention to derail the gospel of Christ. They will receive their rewards for their good deeds.

It was a joke. Focus on the Family is a strong advocate for family values.

Eroding family values will jeopardize the nations as it has in Europe with negative birth rates, religious and anti-religion conflict, weak foreign policy and the country may eventually fail.

What a waste of time and money!!!! Will someone please bring this whole stupid march up to the conventions to a grinding halt??? What about the ISSUES???? What about ongoing wars where young Americans are dying? What about an economic slump, high cost of food, wages not growing fast enough? What about the cost of healthcare? What about corporations and members of Congress working together to give amnesty to ILLEGALS so that they can continue to drain our educational, medical and justice system funds? Does anyone care??????

If it rains we will stand there in it and let the Good Lord wash us with his precious rain and bask in that sweet water from the heavens. Then we will watch the skies open up and hear the words these are my children in whom I am well pleased. Wash us Lord and cleans us of the evil that dwells in the Focus on the Family people.
We liberals would never ask the roof to fall in on the republicans when they are in Minnesota like the bridge that fell into the river. Romans CH12 vs21 says" Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. So I will wish them the best and that they will all return home safe to their families.

You Obama supporters sure are a grumpy lot. A little story about a try at humor and so many of you get your knickers all twisted up. Could it be that the real thing that is upsetting you is your candidate seems to be sinking in the polls day by day? There was so much you found humorous about George W Bush that you don't seem to find humorous if it concerns Mr Obama. Either you are hypocritical and just bad sports.

Focus on the family values? ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGG. They are the ones who'll condemn Obama for supporting women for their rights to abortion and yet advocating "shock and awe" to the Iraqis killing small children. Where's the logic?

This just proves that these religious groups have an agenda.

Obama is one of them and yet they still pull for the Republican. This can only be because they are single issue voters. (Abortion)

This is one of the most damaging things for religion. I quit going to church because, just by going you are supporting more than your faith. Organized religion has gotten way to involved with politics.

As an Iraq war veteran I feel the same way when people try to speak for the "Troops" as if all of the Troops support one thing or another our military and our religions are made up with all kinds of people and these people that try to speak for the entire group do not account for the varying opinions within the group.

Dumb and dumber. Focus on the Family is a partisan waste of space. Show me the family values in the morally desolate policy landscape of the [R] party. It was a joke all right; just not in the way they think. Pathetic.

Alice in Florida @ 2:49 pm ET,
I'm completely fine with revoking all of their tax-free statuses. What makes you think that all Obama supporters even care if he attends church. I realize that many do, but I'm more concerned about the man's morals, leadership and vision for the country than which person in the sky he prays to.

As a Christian, I thnk I understand the meaning of "..fishers of men."
I don't think the FOF demonstrates that, at least not with this stunt.
Further, I don't think that Focus on Family should so outwardly support ANY CANDIDATE who proactively leaves their spouse for another.
You can look it up, but that's exactly what one of these two candidates did.
I also happen to read in my bible that GOD hates divorce. For all of my Christian friends, go read 1 Corinthians 4:2.
For all you FOF folks, that is a book in the new testament. Of the bible.

Christians that truly uphold Christian values cannot vote for Obama. It's as simple as that. Look at his voting record. Look how he has no regard for life. He's a smooth talker and he excites people. But think about this: "Shallow brooks make lots of noise."

I do pray that Obama will not take office, because this country will self-destruct.

And these are people who profess tp be Christians.
Gone are the days when the so called preachers of the world took people for a ride.
Dobson and his flock should be ashamed of themselves for they no longer have the respect of True Christians.
Americans does not need Dobsob to teach them the right from the wrong.
    Shame on you.
