WASHINGTON (CNN) - If Sen. Hillary Clinton's name is placed in nomination in Denver, Colorado, this year, it wouldn't be the first time that a candidate was beaten in the primaries and still formally contested the nomination at the convention.
But it would be the first time in the modern era of presidential primaries that a losing candidate has so visibly endorsed an opponent so many months before the convention, and then gone on to have his or her name placed in nomination.
CNN Election Center: Who will be Obama's VP
Clinton can still win votes from delegates at the Democratic National Convention even if her name is not placed in nomination. Delegates are free to vote for anyone they want to at the convention.
At past conventions, delegates have even been known to vote for fictional characters (Archie Bunker) and dead people (George Orwell).
It's likely that Clinton will pick up some votes unless Sen. Barack Obama is nominated by acclamation.

i'm ready for hillary to go away for a moment. it is no longer her time to shine.. if the democratic nomination was meant for her it would have been hers. all the best to you mr and mrs. clinton and chelsea... but it is obama turn to shine.. come again
Angus: Ignorance is bliss.
I hope not. Please can the Democratic Party show unity. This ploy will only serve to divide the party more than it is already divided.
ch: I suggest you check with Chuck Todd to confirm that Hillary DID NOT get more votes than Obama, even if you count MI and FL. You people need to get therapy so you can move on.
I think its very funny that Clinton says Edwards hidden scandal by the media caused her to lose when the media is still hiding her issues with PAUL V Clinton !!!!!
I liked it better when she was MIA.
Hillary in still the one who garnered the last number of votes in a Primary,in history. She and we deserve to be considered in this Convention, and let the Delegates, seal their fate, for the next four years.
So sad that she doesn't know when to give up. And how can anyone trust her word if she winds up in nomination? Slimey.
If the Clintons and their supporters mess this up for the Dems this year, I will never vote for a Clinton again. I'm sure a lot of us will REMEMBER this in 2016.
OBAMA/BIDEN, 2008!
Hillary should be allowed to have her name on the ballot. Niether canidate won the needed delagtes, & that's the purpose of the conventions.
Then we might as well put John Edwards on the ballot! The Hillary cult followers might as well be republicans and so should she.
Maybe she is!!! Doh! If she can't handle her own campaign, how can she run a country. Honestly, she's dillusional. It's like WACO all over again. Possibly, Jim Jones! Where's that Kool Aid?
OBAMA '08
...attempts to discredit her attempt to change the Health Care system, she focused on America when although a personal issue, almost 1/2 of the 2 Houses of Congress tried to chase her husband out of office despite the peace, prosperity and respect from the International community and in the face of the 'polarization' drums from those who want INEXPERIENCE and CHANGE from MR. CHANGE..err..Obama..focused on the CONSTITUIONAL PROCESS and what was important for America.. WoW, someone who stands by her man, by her country and still wants to be a valued part of an extraordinary CHANGE in making a historical positive difference in Washington
If Hillary places her name in nomination, which I'm sure she will do, most of the delegates that pledged her will vote for Obama. She will get some votes but be trounced at the convention because the Dems don't want this farce to continue. They forced her to leave the primaries and they will force her out of the nomination by not voting for her. She will continue on as Senator and maybe eventually replace Pelosi as speaker if she runs for congress next time. The Clintons will survive, only not in the White House.
God I hope not!
Why not?
I hope her name does not....with all the things being finally revealed about how they attacked Obama....hell no! They are hoping they put it for nomination and by some miracle she gets more votes than Obama....but if the DNC is stupid enough to give her the nomination then I WILL VOTE FOR MCCAIN! And I hope he is not even considering her the VP....and if he loses the election....I will not vote for her if she runs again....I have lost all respect for the Clintons.
If Hillary steals the nomination I voting Independent from now on, Democrats need topick a stance and stand for something,
Hillary should skip the convention altogether and either run as an independent or get on the ticket with McCain. Millions of us moderate Democrats are going to vote for McCain anyway or stay at home. At least this would give us someone to vote FOR.
You go girl. Don't let that lying two faced opponent get the best of you. I will gladly write your name in and if you can take the nomination I shall vote for you. Then again...I don't think there are people that would be very happy to see you win...Pelosi and Reid come to mine. I say win the POTUS and then fire them both....LOL.
Please CNN I know it is hard but you need to finally let her go....
I think if BO wants to consider a Republican for VP, then I think JM should consider a Democratic, (Hillary)!!!!!
"SHE unlike him, has earned to have her name placed in nomination."
She hasn't earned jack. Unfortunately, fate knows.
Plus, we already marked down her supporters to vote for McCain or not! LOL!!!
Democrazy...go ahead but all I'm saying is that she's not getting the nomination.
PUMA = Bitter Hillary Supporters.
Go Hillary. Either way, I'm writing you in.
IF Hillary Clinton is not the democratic nominee..I will vote for John McCain..
Obama is, simply, not prepared for President
PLEASE!! PUMAs – GIVE IT UP!!!
She lost....get over it!!! This whole idea of hijacking the convention makes the SLA look like Girl Scouts!!
LET IT GO!!! Otherwise your "18,000,000 strong" will be seen for exactly what they are:
A bunch of bitter, spoiled, crybaby brats who are sulking because they didn't get their own way!!!
OBAMA 2008
dont fall for her... she is up to something with this charade
