Obama ad: McCain's Iraq policies harm the U.S. economy

New Obama ad says McCain’s Iraq policies contributed to economic woes.
New Obama ad says McCain’s Iraq policies contributed to economic woes.

(CNN) – Barack Obama’s campaign is releasing a new ad pointing to John McCain’s support for the Iraq war as one reason for the faltering state of the U.S. economy.

“Economics … by John McCain,” says the announcer in the 30-second spot. “Support George Bush 95 percent of the time. Keep spending ten billion dollars a month for the war in Iraq while the Iraqis sell oil for record prices - giving Iraq a $79 billion oil surplus, and hurting our economy.

“Barack Obama’s plan: End the war responsibly. Better schools. No more tax breaks for oil companies. Barack Obama … the Middle Class first.”

The campaign said the ad is slated to hit the airwaves Thursday in 16 battleground states, including Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

UPDATE:
“In the Senate, Barack Obama has voted in lockstep with President George W. Bush nearly half the time, including the Bush-Cheney Energy bill which gave close to 3 billion dollars in new giveaways to Big Oil – a terrible policy that John McCain opposed," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds. "The truth is Barack Obama’s plan is a job killing machine that ignores the struggling economy and raises taxes on family savings, social security and small businesses.”

Yes... Let's bring on the heat and make Senator McCain accountable for his (lack of ) judgement on Iraq and his lack of knowledge on the US Economy and how it is affected by numerous factors.

You're an idiot if you think the economy is having trouble beacuse we are spending money in Iraq and because they sell oil.

I love how liberals claim Republicans play off fear, when Sen. Obama does nothing but try to invoke fear of the Republican party and business in each of us.

End the war responsibly? That's what the Republicans intend to do also. Better schools? That isn't a solution, I could come up with that. No more tax breaks for oil companies? Hello higher prices, less investment in new technology and fewer jobs.

We're screwed no matter who wins.

Great AD. This AD should be running within the hour to inform the uninformed what the Republicans (Bush/McCain) have done to our economy.

McSame's continuation of Bush's tax cuts for the rich, tax breaks for Big Oil and endless war will turn America into the Neo-con Banana Republic it has been heading for these past, long miserable eight years...

That is the easiest way to pound McGeezer - no matter what one thinks of the war, the U.S. simply cannot afford it.

The Hot Check Republicans need to have their deficit spending taken away from them, permanently.

I like the ad, but if the Obama campaign is leaking the ad prior to just running it, is this necessary? If it's not the Obama campaign people, then they need to shut down whoever it is that's getting the info out there early. It gives McSame's peeps an extra day to try to get something out there in opposition.

Keep telling the truth Senator Obama! Maybe one day people actually start looking around them to realize that John McCain plans to keep it all the same at best.

That's pretty funny considering that Obama voted FOR Bush's Energy Bill that gave BILLIONS of dollars to oil companies.

McCain voted AGAINST that energy bill. lol.

The ad doesn't seem to mention that...

The trend is, on most important issues, McCain makes a firm stand, and Obama gradually catches up, be it Georgia, Offshore drilling, condition based withdrawal from Iraq, Surveillance vote and on many other issues.

Does Obama have a firm foot any issue at all, except his adamant call to unduly tax successful enterprises?

WHY DOES CNN ALLOW MCBUSH ADDS TO PLAY WHILE IT ONLY GIVES A TEXT FOR OBAMA ADDS? JUST CURIOUS!!!!

I SAW THE ADD ONLINE, AND I LIKED IT, THOUGH, I like to see ADDS THAT DEBUNK MCBUSH'S FACTTUALLY INCORRECT/LIE ON OBAMA TAX PLANS. AND I LIKE THE OBAMA CAMP TO HIT MCBUSH AND HIS CAMP FOR SUGGESTING SAYING OBAMA DOES NOT PUT COUNTRY FIRST. LIBERTMAN SAID YESTERDAY, MCBUSH PUTS COUNTRY FIRST WHILE OBAMA DOES NOT.

I AM AMAZED THAT MCBUSH IS UNDERMINING OBAMA'S SERVICE TO THIS COUNTRY AS SOMETHING LESS BECAUSE O DID NOT SERVE IN THE MILITARY…MCBUSH, DOES THAT MEAN ALL THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR COUNTRY IN THE FORM OF VOLUNTEERISM AND IN OTHER WAYS ARE WORTHY LESS……WHAT ABOUT OBAMA'S CONTRIBUTION AS A CIVIL RIGHTS LAWYER, AS STATE LEGISLATOR, AS COMMUNITY ORGANIZER, AS A PROFESSOR, AS USA SENATOR, AS A TAX PAYER……REALLY MCBUSH, SHAME ON YOU!

    John McSame Economics:

1.) Give more oil tax breaks to oil companies first
2.) Give $79 billion oil surplus tax breaks to Iraq first
3.) Give more offshore oil drilling licences to lobbyist & concubines in return of $2 million campaign donations first
4.) Give tax credits to companies that ship american jobs overseas to China & India first
