Oprah hit the trail for Obama during the primary season.
Oprah hit the trail for Obama during the primary season.

(CNN) — Oprah Winfrey will be on hand when Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination in Denver – but the talk show host, who was a key presence at rallies for the Illinois senator during the primary season, won’t take the stage, a representative from her production company told CNN Wednesday.

The spokeswoman also denied rumors Winfrey was planning to spend thousands renting a home in Denver during the convention.

In June, shortly after Obama effectively clinched the Democratic nomination, Winfrey – who appeared with him in several key early-voting states, including Iowa, New Hampshire and California – said she was "euphoric” over his victory.

“I've been doing the happy dance all day,” she said in a statement then. “I'm so proud of Barack and Michelle and what this means for all of us, the new possibilities for our country.”

She added that she’d be happy to hit the trail again on his behalf: “And if he wants me to, I'm ready to go door to door."

I love how all the Obama haters are so dumb all they can do is repeat nonsense spewed by John McCain. Like people calling him celebrity all the time now. that's right we have a chance for a president who is admired by people across the United States and the world. McCain comes out with lies and stupid campaign gimmicks and idiots just shovel it up. I'd like to start seeing some original attacks against Obama and not just character attacks. McCain is trying to pain Obama as an elitist out of touch which we all know isn't true.

Isn't it amazing that greed runs the United States. that's awesome!! (end sarcasm)

biffington, biff   August 14th, 2008 11:39 am ET

What i love most about these posts, are that no matter what hate is spewed at her, (call her a has-been, whatever)… Oprah can buy and sell all you broke bastards with the signing of her name!

randy   August 14th, 2008 11:37 am ET

She is an inspiration to all women around the world. Her voice speaks volumes.in my own knowlage i think she and john kerry made obama who he is today and i will for ever thank them for it.2004 john kerry gave him on on chance to be the keynote speaker at boston convention then whole country was happy to see this skinny kid with funny name now the nominee for president. Then in 2007 oprah winfrey told us that he is the one as we all know what oprah torches sales.once again thanks for both of you.and i will vote obama in november.

John McCain… born in Panama…
Obama born is good old USA!

Fox News reported that John McCain had an affair while his first wife was recovering from an automobile accident; yet, they trashed Edwards for the same thing.
Obama is happily married with two wonderful daughters.

John McSame, knows only threats of military intervention as a means for settling problems. Obama speaks of peace negotiations.

John McSame said yesterday… "In the 21st Century, no country has the right to invade another country." He needs to be reminded that his poor judgement led to that very thing in Iraq.

So, who should I trust? I am ready for something new. I have had enough of this present mess and I neither see nor hear anything new in John McSame. This is not the same man I voted for in the 2000 Republican primary in NC. He has become an angry puppet.

Obama-Junkie, IL   August 14th, 2008 11:33 am ET

So what CNN? Oprah is an American citizen and able to take part in the political process. No one is making a big deal of it except the media.

AT   August 14th, 2008 11:32 am ET

it is amazing how people loved Oprah until she endorsed this candidate. If she spends money on a rented home during the convention, that is her business. She has worked very hard for her success. Senator Obama and Michell has worked very hard as well. I have experienced ridicule because I have worked very hard at my craft and have experienced success and favor because of it. People are jealous, they are blatant bigots on this issue. Why are you not concerned with the horrible past of Senator McCain and his drug-addict wife. If Senator Obama would have had that record he would have been laughed off the race. Yet you call him a celebrity. You call Oprah a has-been. She can be called anything she wants-she has the success record to prove who she is- the most successful business woman in this nation. I do not agree with some of her views, but she is an expert at her craft. I will see her at the convention.

To ustjoe and all the other idiots who believe that 200,000 Germans would show up for a free concert of a seond-string band, answer this question.

How is it that the stadium in Dever sold out after only 24 hours of available tickets for the Democratic Party convention (75,000 tickets)?

Germany's largest open air concert lasts for 4 days, with over 20 bands, and have around 50,000 visitors during that time. How do you explain 200,000 people in Berlin in ONE day?

Americans are tired of poeple like you. We want our government back; and you can't stop that!

"justjoe" Oprah has done more wonderful and patrotic deeds for America than you can even imagine in your wildest dream. People like you and your dear friend Mr Jerome Corsi (reliable sources have confirmed that his PhD thesis was Plagiarism, and he is a member of white suprimacy group. This is looking more and more like a national convention based on race, not politics. I expect Colin Powell to be there as well. Rev. Wright can do the benediction and maybe some former Black Panthers can do the security. Roland Martin can do the play by play. Maybe Louis Farakhan has volunteered to set up the chairs. Scary.

Dave in Illinois   August 14th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Why is this newsworthy?

It might have some merit as a story if she decided not to attend as its obvious that she loves Obama more than her long time companion Stedman. Maybe she'll get so excited at the convention she'll wet her pants and we can have another major story on CNN.

the hatred and hostility evident in the hearts of these bloggers if a black man was not in the race for the white house.

One blogger said he well hold his nose and vote for McCain, if he gets elected you will be holding more than your nose. You will be holding your head from all the grief and pain his presidency will bring.

Bunch of ignorant people voting based on flashy, EMPTY endorements. You guys really look stupid falling for what these goofs promote rather than educating yourself on the REAL issues. Please let us not become a socialist society.

Brian   August 14th, 2008 11:20 am ET

Oprah has to show-up and take credit-per usual. What an ego that woman has! Her "charitable work" seems more a vehicle to promote herself as "an incredible and generous" person than real charity. Real philanthropy isn't self-promotion and self-worship.

Teej   August 14th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Oh boy, another person who just tells people what they want to hear with no clue as to how to achieve it. I seen where Obama also wants to raise the minimum wage to $9.50. That should pretty well send all of factory jobs to another country. Why not come up with a better plan Obama. Guess he needs to take a crash course in economics.

So Oprah used and keep using her power and money to support a candidate for the main reason of having an African-American first president. That is racist why not support or help a Native American, or a Hispanic candidate or cause. She is all about a section of America and not for the whole Nation. Is not only black people who have suffered discrimination in this country and this election had been only about that in complete disregard of the history of other minorities like Natives or Hispanics. After all they saw their land and rights taken away from them. But people like Oprah and Obama for their own selfish interest just present a portion of the story a portion of the whole History in USA.

How could Oprah attach herself to Obama. Obama is the same man who promised to help fund the Kogelo runned down school in Kenya and he never delivered that promise. Look it up folks. If Obama delivered every promise he has made it would cost more than the war in Iraq. Maybe Oprah will help fund Obama so he can deliver his promise. We need a realistic president.

Wow!! Oprah at the convention?!? I'm buying my ticket now!!

She is a has-been and a joke. Went from saying she will never endorse a political candidate to making an exception based on race. Showed her true colors - lost respect of many.

Stay home Noprah.

Brian   August 14th, 2008 11:06 am ET

You liberal democratic idiots with your name calling: McSame, McShame, McBush etc…you really are showing the magnitude of your intelligence. But hey, two can play at that game. Osama gets the backing from a firefighter's union?? Geez whiz, no one saw this coming…..morons.

Republican tyranny?? Hilarious. Let's just follow the Democrats idea of letting the terrorists do whatever they want. Let's not forget when these terrorists started organizing and planning their actions…yup, that's right, while 'ol Bill was getting pleasured from Monica. So shut your hole Susan.

I'd love to see McCain and Osama in a debate before the election…Osama would crumble at the idea of putting substance behind his ideas. Experience is huge, and serving in the military gives the Commander in Chief an added advantage, that's why I'm voting for McCain, and not Osama.

Oprah, Paris, Brittany, Osama….such a perfect fit. This Democratic campaign is comical that you base your ideals, values and morals on words from an inexperienced, untested person. Sorry to say, but I think Hillary would've actually done pretty well against McCain. But she has John Edwards to thank for that.

Americans have lost all common sense and seem to forget that this is not a popularity contest .
Constant headlines bragging of which celebrity is endorsing whom , makes your election process nothing more than a page out of the gossip pages.
This is an unstable world we're living in , economy is in trouble and you have men and women in harm's way .
If you are saying that people like Oprah help you to make your political decision , than you deserve what you get.
No other country creates a media circus around political elections like you do .

This just is a big joke. Oprah is a racist too. Just look at her remark she made to that reporter when she opened up her little school not on US soil by the way…her and Michelle make the best of friends-they should, they have race issues against whites!
I hand it to McCain, he has kept this a non-race issue and has not called on celebrities to help him. Look at all these people obama needs to use in order for him to win.
McCain is the man for President. Obama only has his lack of experience and racial wife/Oprah on his side.
Oh and if you don't believe me about Oprah-just look it up on how she didn't know she had to cater to the white people.

People should think well before making comments. Oprah has the right to support who ever she want to. Because she is a citizen of this country. Celebrity or not everyone who claimed to be a citizen of any country must have the right to his or her freedom of choice either politically or socially. So please open your eyes and see the light.

Never was a big fan of Oprah in the past. This has changed some recently but I can’t say that I’ve begun watching her show. Honestly, I thought she was going to endorse Hillary Clinton. Must admit though, I was intrigued with the reaction that many women had towards Oprah after she endorsed Senator Obama.

I hope that Senator Obama's team are careful and calculating when they balance the weight of all the media attention with their campaign/policies. Even with all of the George Clooneys, the Oprahs, the Gweneth Paltrows and whoever else is backing Senator Obama, his team needs to remain very intensely focused on one thing.

Going for the jugular come Labor Day, finishing McCain quick, neat and pretty and winning the GE.

The events of 2008 have set women back 50 years in this country. Women are given two resumes; one of a man who shares their ideals, but has barely a term in the Senate on his resume with no legislative accomplishments - and one of a woman who shares the same ideals but with decades of public policy experience, eight years in the Senate, foreign policy experience, and who knows the inner workings of Washington.

And they pick the man.

Why?

Because Oprah Winfrey told them to.

Jean   August 14th, 2008 10:49 am ET

I too am proud of Obama and Michelle. Even though there are still mean, nasty spirited individuals (republicans). I continue to believe there are more good people in the world than there are evil doers. May God bless the world and especially America? That said, thank you Oprah, Michelle, Obama and supporters of change. Together we shall stand. However, divided we shall fall.

A lot of people moan and fuss about "hollywood liberal" this and "hollywood liberal" that, but when it comes down to it, they still watch the movies and the TV shows. The nation's center for moviemaking and tv shows isn't in Georgia or Alabama for a reason.

If you're going to moan about Hollywood, don't do it while consuming what they produce for your entertainment.

Something is seriously wrong at CNN, they obviously have an agenda if they consider this worthy of taking up space. Are they going to have a political ticker for every celebrity that is going to be in Denver during the convention? Is McCain paying them to do this?

Morningstar   August 14th, 2008 10:26 am ET

It is amazing to me how gullible the media and a lot of us are. The Republican Party tried to make the word "liberal" dirty in the 80’s, now they want people to believe that the word "celebrity" is bad. If Bush was so accepted and welcome by other countries like Obama, then the Iraq war would have different outcome. Many more countries would have worked with us.

Republicans have put this country to its lowest point since WWII; McOld cannot talk about any substance. The republicans have six years of total control in all the three branches of the government. What have they done with all that power? They gave us the war in Iraq that cost $10 billions per month, they turn the surplus from the Clinton administration to the largest deficit in history, our country trade deficits is at its highest ever, the dollar has become the Peso of the world. Here at home the credit problem is making a lot of people suffer. The unemployment is at it highest level in 20 years. McSenile with all his Adam like experience cannot address any of those problems after 26 years in Washington, all he can come out with is some childish attack ads, this is very sad for our country.

Oprah won't make any difference in the final analysis of the American People.
The final "in booth" decisions for 70% of Americans will be:
Who can we trust to work on USA being American ! Who puts America first in America. Who has the experience. Who will not put our border patrol in jail for doing their jobs while excusing repetitive drug dealers (that is a sick case with Campeon and Ramos, etc).
We'll vote for McCain, however hold our nose in the process.
Has nothing to do w/color of skin, etc. Obama is 1/2 white and that should be mentioned moreso.

this change. This change will be and administration starting at the
white house and all government. We must have ours states
and local cities as well because the president can only do so
much. These issues with jobs and income start with them
because you have jobs that lay-off to get under budget and
hard working peoples loose their homes, cars, credit go bad,
childrens start falling behind in school. These are the real problem
in America, which have not really address nationally.Orpah, talk
about this issue on your show and Obama you speak of this on

It wouldn't matter if Oprah supported Obama or not any woman with just a modicum of self respect wouldn't vote for McCain based on his record of voting on women's issues. The same goes for any veterans or people who support veteran's issues.

The final results will boil down to people who want a peaceful existence with an improving economy will support Obama and the people who consider themselves the master race who want to dominate the world through wars and rhetoric will vote for McCain.

Better get used to seeing a lot of the big "O" in DC and at the White House should Obama win. She will be just one of many expecting special favors and the ear of the President day and night.

McCain would be even worse. He would have the big Oil boys and lobbyists using teh White House like it has a revolving door.
