Oprah to head to Denver for Obama nomination

Oprah hit the trail for Obama during the primary season.
Oprah hit the trail for Obama during the primary season.

(CNN) - Oprah Winfrey will be on hand when Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination in Denver – but the talk show host, who was a key presence at rallies for the Illinois senator during the primary season, won’t take the stage, a representative from her production company told CNN Wednesday.

The spokeswoman also denied rumors Winfrey was planning to spend thousands renting a home in Denver during the convention.

In June, shortly after Obama effectively clinched the Democratic nomination, Winfrey – who appeared with him in several key early-voting states, including Iowa, New Hampshire and California – said she was "euphoric” over his victory.

“I've been doing the happy dance all day,” she said in a statement then. “I'm so proud of Barack and Michelle and what this means for all of us, the new possibilities for our country.”

She added that she’d be happy to hit the trail again on his behalf: “And if he wants me to, I'm ready to go door to door."

HATERS IN THE ROOM – How many celebrities are going to show up at McSAME's convention – Britney, Paris, ABBA to name 3. Better yet, how many people are going to show up at his convention in ALL – 3.

Oprah made the right decision by staying off the stage and the right decision to be there... GO OBAMA!!!

If Oprah were to back McCain...that would be news.

If Jesse Jacjson were to back McCain...that would be news.

If Al Sharpton were to back McCain...that would be news.

If Louis Farakhan were to back McCain...that would be news.

If Hamas were to back McCain...that would be news.

If Ahmadinejad were to back McCain...that would be news.

If Vladimir Putin were to back McCain...that would be news.

    See the pattern...this isn't news.

That is another reason not to vote for Obama. Who is Oprah Winfrey to have such a political impact that she supposedly added 1MM votes to his primary bid. What a horribile situation to be in when a "personality" would be so influential in a presidential campaign!

OPRAH WAS GOOD FOR AN ESTIMATED 1 MILLION VOTES IN THE PRIMARY AND I SUSPECT SHE WOULD BE GOOD FOR AT LEAST THAT MANY IN THE GENERAL. WAHT A KICK IT WOULDD BE TO ANSWER YOUR DOOR AND OPRAH WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE.

PAT YOU ARE A RIOT. I DOUBT THIS WOULD INJURE HER CAREER.

Oh boy, another person who just tells people what they want to hear with no clue as to how to achieve it. I seen where Obama also wants to raise the minimum wage to $9.50. That should pretty well send all of factory jobs to another country. Why not come up with a better plan Obama. Guess he needs to take a crash course in economics.

Oprah has to show-up and take credit-per usual. What an ego that woman has! Her "charitable work" seems more a vehicle to promote herself as "an incredible and generous" person than real charity. Real philanthropy isn't self-promotion and self-worship.

George from Minneapolis, just what are these imprtant issues that people in Hollywood are supporting??? Oh wait, change? Right? It cracks me up that these wealthy airheads get to hollywood and then think they know everything as we the hard working public don't. Bunch of ignorant people voting based on flashy, EMPTY endorements. You guys really look stupid falling for what these goofs promote rather than educating yourself on the REAL issues. Please let us not become a socialist society.

I wonder if Oprah will pay to bus people into Denver, like she did for the Iowa Caucus. I kow, I live in Iowa, and I saw the people from Chicago. Disgusting perversion of democracy.

One thing I am learning about the american people, we would not see all
the hatred and hostility evident in the hearts of these bloggers if a black man was not in the race for the white house.

One blogger said he well hold his nose and vote for McCain, if he gets elected you will be holding more than your nose. You will be holding your head from all the grief and pain his presidency will bring.

    Why is this newsworthy?

It might have some merit as a story if she decided not to attend as its obvious that she loves Obama more than her long time companion Stedman. Maybe she'll get so excited at the convention she'll wet her pants and we can have another major story on CNN.

This is looking more and more like a national convention based on race, not politics. I expect Colin Powell to be there as well. Rev. Wright can do the benediction and maybe some former Black Panthers can do the security. Roland Martin can do the play by play. Maybe Louis Farakhan has volunteered to set up the chairs. Scary.
