Campaign says McCain didn't hear question on attack book

McCain isn't commenting on Corsi's new book.

(CNN) - John McCain's campaign is denying Democratic charges the presumptive Republican nominee flippantly dismissed a new book attacking Barack Obama that includes several documented falsehoods.

Asked by the Associated Press earlier Friday what he though of author Jerome Corsi's new book, "The Obama Nation," McCain said, "gotta keep your sense of humor."

Those comments were immediately slammed by the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee, which e-mailed its 3.4 million supporters declaring, "John McCain thinks smears and lies are funny."

"Despite pledging to run a respectful campaign, McCain is just standing by while Corsi and his publisher, former Dick Cheney aide Mary Matalin, poison this presidential race," read the e-mail from DNC Rapid Response Team.

Watch: Is Obama being swift-boated?

But McCain spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan said later Thursday the Arizona senator actually did not hear the question, and would not be commenting on the book.

The book, which is expected to debut No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list, repeats many long-discredited falsehoods about the Illinois senator, including the claim that he is Muslim.

Corsi, who has said he's on a “mission” to take down Obama, also co-wrote "Unfit for Command" - the 2004 book that spawned the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth attacks against then-Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.

Of course Obama has to place any negative news on someone else. That is how he and his followers operate. McCain did not write the book and even if the comment "Got to keep your since of humor" was and answer about the book, it is a logical response as to all the negative, nasty, mean, and lies that are be said about both candiates throught this process. If you take them to serious, you better find a new advocation.

Why is it in this election and the primaries that preceeded it the opponents of Obama have to apologize for every comment made about him by anyone while the people on his side can say whatever they want and it's OK?

  6. Hope and change?

Millions of democrat would rather vote for McCain... then allow Obama and his thugs to steal an election.

Better republican than to sacrifice the democratic process totally and give rise to a future of fixed primaries, blocked votes and strong-arm tactics.

A future of race-baiting and race card playing just to manipulate your way into a lead.

A future of threats from AAs if their candidate is not everyone's choice.

I'm a Navy manger and have worked for the Navy over 20 years. John McCain had always been one of my heros.

So I couldn't be more disgusted to learn that he and his campaign are behind this outragous, slanderous attack on Oboma. It's sad to learn one of your heros is a shameful coward. For me, from now on, McCaiin means McSleaze.

    CNN- pls post.

I find that this nation is taking a very nasty turn by ripping apart a man with falsities. This is not freedom of speech but lies about Obama and his mother, grandparents and other family members. This is why I have lost complete hope and belief in this country. I thought we were a greater country with decency. How come europ, africa and asia love obama and some people here are scared of Obama's name and his color!

how disgraceful, and McCain thinks it's a joke, this book makes the RNC, McCain look guilty, they are behind this. McCain is just as worse as "W". He is not running a decent campaign and he should be the representative of this country.

Dirty, filthy, immoral and rotten to the core. That is the only way republicans know how to run a campaign. Payback is coming. November will be when the fat lady will sing for McCain and the rest of the Republican party.

  13. Democrat....no matter what!

This just goes to show you what kind of morals these Republicans have! McCain knows most of all that stuff isn't true, but for the sake of winning, he just jokes about it and hopes these scare tactics work to his favor!

Why are the evangelicals backing such a creep! I don't remember christians being known for their lies and dishonesty!

When the only thing you can say against a person are blatant lies, that speaks well of the person being lied about. But it does not speak well of the person doing the lying. Once again, the Republicans are proving themseves to be nothing but filthy lying slime. Which is the only way they can get into the White House. McShame said once that he was going to wage an honorable campaign. When does he plan to start? I'm still waiting.

So you can just admit to being on a "take down" campaign and then write books full of lies and falsehoods and that's okay? Really? Another thing, McCain's advisers are making him look like and idiot "He didn't hear the question...". "He didn't hear the question? He obviously heard something because he commented. This guy is running plays out of the Bush campaign playbook; which leads me to believe that he has no substance. You can have 100 years of experience but if you have no substance to run a successful campaign then you aren't fit to lead the country.

He has heard all the other questions asked of him. Now all of a sudden he didn't hear this question. BALONEY! I believe John McCain replied to the question exactly what he felt. And this is the kind of President America wants? NOT THIS AMERICAN!

Great, not only can he not keep up with the times, but he is in the process of losing his hearing as well. For McLame not to reject the blantant untruths in this attack on his fellow Senate brother shows he will do anything including make up Lame excuses as to why spreding lies is alright. It was a lie that he (John McLame) supported that got us into this mess in Iraq! We the People need it straight!!!! Obama 08 and 2012

So if he didn't hear the question.....what question did he think he heard when answering "you gotta keep your sense of humor"???

Was his hearing aid not on?

Perhaps he's just lying again. Seems to be a daily thing for him to lie these days....

Not a good trait for a President!
