Campaign says McCain didn't hear question on attack book

McCain isn't commenting on Corsi's new book.

(CNN) - John McCain's campaign is denying Democratic charges the presumptive Republican nominee flippantly dismissed a new book attacking Barack Obama that includes several documented falsehoods.

Asked by the Associated Press earlier Friday what he though of author Jerome Corsi's new book, "The Obama Nation," McCain said, "gotta keep your sense of humor."

Those comments were immediately slammed by the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee, which e-mailed its 3.4 million supporters declaring, "John McCain thinks smears and lies are funny."

"Despite pledging to run a respectful campaign, McCain is just standing by while Corsi and his publisher, former Dick Cheney aide Mary Matalin, poison this presidential race," read the e-mail from DNC Rapid Response Team.

Watch: Is Obama being swift-boated?

But McCain spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan said later Thursday the Arizona senator actually did not hear the question, and would not be commenting on the book.

The book, which is expected to debut No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list, repeats many long-discredited falsehoods about the Illinois senator, including the claim that he is Muslim.

Corsi, who has said he's on a “mission” to take down Obama, also co-wrote "Unfit for Command" - the 2004 book that spawned the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth attacks against then-Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.

I don't think smears and lies are funny-I think Barak Obama is funny. I am brought to laughter every time I see Obama on T.V. always chewing gum like some punk in high school. Doesn't this man know he running for the highest office on the planet? It just shows that some there are really and truly some educated idiots running around and this guy is their leader.

I don't hear anyone on the Obama campagn defending McCain when someone makes disparaging remarks about his age.

Obama should stand on his own two feet and deal with criticsm himself. What a cry baby...

  4. LET'S KEEP IT REAL

If John McCain is fueled by lies and deceit why on earth would anyone expect him to denounce someone else for doing the same. J. McCain and the entire Republican Party knows every well that this method is the only way they can have any momentum, if truth be told they would be seen as the hypocrical liars and cheats.

So what question did he think he heard? Or is 'keeping your sense of humor' just his Thought for Today?

And the RNC and it's subordinates have purchased the book in bulk in order to manipulate the NYT best seller list.

These tactics are simply pathetic. It's just a way the McCain camp can continue to spread lies and slander without it being "directly" tied back to them.

    Wake up America!

There goes the Obama camp whining about any criticism of their false messiah. I can only imagine what censorship would be in place of BarryHo was in office. Freedom of speech would be long gone!

the party is over for the gop,the demographics dont lie, maybe the polls lie,but the demographics dont lie.the white vote will only be 73% this election, that means mccain will have to get 61% of the white vote,in that hasnt happen since reagan won in 1984.the media is keeping this quiet.a report came out yesterday saying the white population will be the minority by 2040,thats very bad news for the gop.in 2012 the gop will have to get 63% of the white vote to even come close.unless the gop start getting minority voters they will become absolete by 2016,the proof is in the pudding my friends

McCain Lies, He heard the question, he thinks this whole campaign is a joke. Ask the family that lost their home in foreclosure should they keep a sense of humor. Ask the dad or mom who lost their job to off shore companies if they need to keep a sense of humor. Ask the family that paid their last 50.00 dollars to fill up their car and can't eat dinner tonight if they need to keep a sense of humor...

    NO MCCAIN IN 08

McCain left his hearing aid on the bus, thats why he didn't hear the question. He is a joke. McCain is a slime ball who will throw any kind of mud at the wall and hope it will stick. he is a disgrace to America. He is out of touch with America, except for those old timers in Florida who do shuffle board all day.

McCain will start WW3. He is unfit for duty as president. Ever notice his Nurse Cindy always has to hold his elbow when he takes steps or walks down stairs. He will raise taxes on the lower and middle income while making the tax cuts for him and Cins permanent. He wasn't born in America.

It's interesting to hear that John McCain once ran as a Democratic presidential nominee. (See last paragraph)

Well, it's either changing his mind or he's hard of hearing. The guy, just like his mentor, never takes responsibility for a darn thing. Is this really what we want for the next 4 years?

Looks like one more sign of OLD AGE is getting him in trouble: In addition to not being able to email, text messge, remember what he told someone 30 minutes ago, much less 30 days ago, doesn't show up to vote on vital issues, and then claims he did. We were raised not to tell lies, because at some point in time you will be asked the same questions again and your answers won't match. His spokeswoman, Brooke Buchanan, has admitted he didn't hear the question, and wouldn't be commenting on the book. Does he need a hearing aid? What would happen if he couldn't or wouldn't respond to a remark, accusation, challenge, or threat concerning the Russian / Georgian situation with the whole world listening and one of his staff has to step in to "advise Mr. McCain what is going on". We don't want to wait for the "Books On Tape" version.

We, in Ireland can't figure out why you people are even bothering
to hold an election in the United States.

One one side you had a pants wearing female lawyer, married to another lawyer, who can't seem to keep his pants on, who lost
a heated primary to another lawyer, who goes to the wrong church, who is married to another lawyer and doesn't even like the country
    her husband wants to run!

On the other side you have an old war hero whose name starts
with the appropriate Mc and married to a good looking younger
woman who owns a beer distributorship!!!!

WHAT IN GOD'S NAME ARE YE LADS THINKING, OVER THERE IN THE COLONIES.

Whether he heard the question or not, Sen. McCain should public denounce this book as a pack of lies. He should state that he does not want or need Mr. Corsi's support.

To not denounce this book publicly is to accept the hatred, deceit and racism the book touts as facts. To say nothing against this book, shows Sen. McCain to be a hypocrite and a dishonest man.

Sen. McCain owes it to the United States of America to take a stand on this.

    We're waiting.

Seems to me when there is something he would rather not comment on he does not hear or just stands there with that vacant look on his face, or you should just have a sense of humor – I think the book is an disgrace and ole John thinks its funny – wonder how he would feel if they released a book on him that was FUNNY!!! What a jerk!!!!

I wonder why no one picked up on a comment McCain made stating that he does so much better when he can sleep till 8 or 8:30 am, he seems to have problems formulating his thoughts if he gets up before then – he actually admits this, this is the man who will be then one getting the 3AM phone call. I guess they better let him know th night before if thedy plan an attack so he can fit it into his sleep pattern.

He didn't try to stop the various smearing Republican ads during the Democratic primary, what did you expect this time around?

He wants to win and will support anything negative without directly supporting it.

John McCain before Country and before Respect of others – the REAL John McCain

ps – look at his TV ads, they're just disgusting! This is NOT leadership traits or sense of "humor" in a time many people are struggling.
