Campaign says McCain didn't hear question on attack book

(CNN) - John McCain's campaign is denying Democratic charges the presumptive Republican nominee flippantly dismissed a new book attacking Barack Obama that includes several documented falsehoods.

Asked by the Associated Press earlier Friday what he though of author Jerome Corsi's new book, "The Obama Nation," McCain said, "gotta keep your sense of humor."

Those comments were immediately slammed by the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee, which e-mailed its 3.4 million supporters declaring, "John McCain thinks smears and lies are funny."

"Despite pledging to run a respectful campaign, McCain is just standing by while Corsi and his publisher, former Dick Cheney aide Mary Matalin, poison this presidential race," read the e-mail from DNC Rapid Response Team.

Watch: Is Obama being swift-boated?

But McCain spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan said later Thursday the Arizona senator actually did not hear the question, and would not be commenting on the book.

The book, which is expected to debut No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list, repeats many long-discredited falsehoods about the Illinois senator, including the claim that he is Muslim.

Corsi, who has said he's on a “mission” to take down Obama, also co-wrote "Unfit for Command" - the 2004 book that spawned the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth attacks against then-Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.

So now McCain is hard of hearing too. Makes you wonder what he thought the question was? He probably helped write the book.

Awww.... somebody forgot to turn on their hearing aid.

Interesting that the man that funded the swiftboat book of crap against Kerry is meeting with McLame and asked about the swiftboat book of crap against Sen. Obama.

More of the same from McBush – he can't even get his own group of friends.

So, is this a normal thing? McCain does not really hear the question, but still makes a response?

And this is suppose to make me feel better!?!?!?!?!?!

What does he mean he "did not hear the question?" Then what was he responding to? Did he "mis-hear" the question? Does he need a hearing aide?

If he didn't hear the question, why did he provide an answer? What if he's president and a general asks "So should I order the subs to launch nuclear missiles at Turkey?" and McCain thinks he said "should I order you a sub sandwich with mayo and turkey?" and so he says, "yeah sure, that sounds good."

It could lead to nuclear holocaust. something to think about.

If the man doesn't hear the question how can he answer it? Are they denying that he uttered the words? Are they saying that he didn't understand the question, or that the question was ambiguous? There are no good answers to these questions. Regardless of the answers he is not capable of leading this country and negotiating with foreing leaders. Who knows what he'll give away or what wars he'll get us into next if he responds without benefit of knowing what is on the table.

Of course McCain thinks it is OK because he has been teeling some of the same lies about Obama also. He vowed he wanted an issue base campaign but he has been doing nothing but attacking Obama, by the way what is McCain policies? and where do he stand on the issues? All I see from him is Celeb ads about Obama and him acting like he is the president when it comes to Russia. By the way wasn't it the rpublicans who said Obama was acting to much like he was already the president on his over seas trip? Where are they now when it comes to McCain?

By the way what was the CNN analyst (the female republican stratagist) thinking when she said Obama should cut his vacation short and come back because of the Russia issue? What was he going to do have a town hall meeting on the issue? She needs to be fired we have only one president at a time and it is him only that can address this issue not Obama and sure not McCain.

So why isn't he wearing a hearing aid if he can't hear? So everytime he makes a gaffe we are supposed to believe that he has a hearing problem? Guess we don't have to worry about him hearing the 3am call.

Sometimes it's hard to get old people to change their ways?

This is exactly why I vote Democrat. I can't believe people excuse the dirty rotten tricks of the Republicans. I REALLY can't believe people fall for their tricks.

Smears and Lies aren't funny, but truth hurts. And as we have learned, the more truthful something is when talking about Leftists the louder they scream. It's actually pretty funny to watch.

McCain is being handled, it's obvious. He's been told to blame "humor" for lies and falsehoods that blast Obama.

By blaming humor he is doing two things: allowing the false charges to stand and making the questioner out to be a dummy who "doesn't get it".

It's a clever response, but easy to see through. When does McCain begin to speak from his heart – not from his handlers notes?

Okay, instead of "what?" or "Excuse me?" McCain's answer to a question you didn't hear is "gotta keep your sense of humor."

McCain has a real problem with the truth. Romney was right.

Every day I hear another shocking thing about McCain. I suffered under the delusion that he was a decent person. I also read yesterday that he was a signatory to some writings by the Project For a New American Century. That officially puts him on my list of the most evil people of the 21st century.

Old man's hearing is poor.......believable. The fact that he answered the question, then later said he didn't hear it......not so much.

Either his hearing is gone because he's old, or he's just doesn't get it because he's old.
