Campaign says McCain didn't hear question on attack book

McCain isn't commenting on Corsi's new book.

(CNN) - John McCain's campaign is denying Democratic charges the presumptive Republican nominee flippantly dismissed a new book attacking Barack Obama that includes several documented falsehoods.

Asked by the Associated Press earlier Friday what he though of author Jerome Corsi's new book, "The Obama Nation," McCain said, "gotta keep your sense of humor."

Those comments were immediately slammed by the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee, which e-mailed its 3.4 million supporters declaring, "John McCain thinks smears and lies are funny."

"Despite pledging to run a respectful campaign, McCain is just standing by while Corsi and his publisher, former Dick Cheney aide Mary Matalin, poison this presidential race," read the e-mail from DNC Rapid Response Team.

Watch: Is Obama being swift-boated?

But McCain spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan said later Thursday the Arizona senator actually did not hear the question, and would not be commenting on the book.

The book, which is expected to debut No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list, repeats many long-discredited falsehoods about the Illinois senator, including the claim that he is Muslim.

Corsi, who has said he's on a “mission” to take down Obama, also co-wrote "Unfit for Command" - the 2004 book that spawned the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth attacks against then-Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.

Some more shinnanagins from the Obama's Chicago bosses? They act like they own the media. Heck, maybe they do.................

There's probably as much truth to this so-called book as there was to OJ's defense lawyer, Johnny Cochran, when he used the bogus glove don't fit argument. If it sounds like what you wanted to hear, then it must be the truth. We've got millions of those kinds of ears out there folks, unfortunately a lot of them don't speak English and I suspect most of them will vote.

Mccain is a clueless, rudderless freak/flirt with no regards and care to what's happening to the common people. He is a multi-millionaire with mutliple properties and wealth just enjoying his position. USA cannot afford this reckless guy even for a day. Must be defeated by all people.

McCain doesn't have to say squat about someone else's book. Ask the author, not McCain. Should be interesting over next few months as more people wake up and realize the dems jumped the shark by nominating a guy with a serious drug past, multiple aliases, muslim connections, no valid birth certificate, no resume and no brains.

I watched CNN which is generally pretty liberally slanted. When you watch McCain being asked the question it is pretty clear that he didnt hear the question and was poking fun at the reporter. That is the analysis from CNN. Funny how so many Obama supporters are complaining that McCain promotes falsehoods when in actuality it is the Obama supporters who are promoting falsehoods. How low are y'all willing to go all because you lost the last 2 elections? I don't see McCain as a good choice for President and will not be voting for him. But I certaining see a worse choice with Obama – primarily because of his mindless supporters. Regardless of whether Obama, Clinton, or McCain wins, this country is doomed.

What's wrong with the answer? Gotta keep your sense of humor. Sounds like an appropriate answer to me. As a matter of fact, some of you bloggers need to go back and find yours. Geez, are you really this uptight? My suggestion, go out and have a couple of beers this weekend and kill whatever crawled up inside of you. That goes for both Dems and Reps.

  9. Truth from an outsider

"...Arizona Senator actually did not hear the question..." but did actually put out an answer, only he was wrong. Sounds like an unclean politics as usual. However, America, You ought to call a spade a spade. If the above excerpt is true, then Senator McCain is hard of hearing or does not understand English. Do You want such a president in the WH? Do You want a president who would have to be reminded even at the international scenes that "that's not what we 're talking about Mr. President? Wakeup!! That is a sign of withering.

McCain may be old with a hearing problem, but I am sure he heard the question, he really hopes that the book does the same to Obama as the earlier book did to Kerry. He is one mean spirited white haired old dude who we don't want for president. Remember what he did to his first wife and the nasty things he said to his present wife in a fit of temper. That's the real 'straight talk'.

Red Blooded American, you are really a head-up-your-spincter amerikan. Go find something useful to do like turning yourself into compost, that's probably the best way you can realize your full potential, you Republican bigot..

We all know McCain is hard of hearing, especially when he doesn't have Joe Blow LIEberman whispering the answers in his ear.

3.5 million got email. Lets get 5 million supporters. As soon as we know that McIdiot is lying, we immediately need to let our 5 million supportes know in a second. Let us have email addresses send to Obama camp. Our goal by Aug.22 should be 5 million. Yes we can do it.

McCain is confused, elderly. It's statistical, not me. I feel sorry for his loss of direction. He reads his "experts" notes, then grins. Did I get it right, his eyebrows ask. C
'mon. Cindy, Cindy, keep spending your dough, give it to John cause he is slow. Let's see. He was in a Vietnamies prison camp, got released, then went back. Hummm. Cool.
Some one please disarm him, turn the light back on.

Regardless of your political view, Senator McCain is just too old and decrepit to become president. Every day he rattles off some incoherent thought provided by his staff. The man does not even understand what he is saying! Why would the United States elect ANOTHER dumb president? I’ll be voting for Obama, Thank you.

The Obama campaign is so desperate they're going to say McCain is backing up this book? That's pathetic. Lame try Axelrod, your puppet is still dead even in the polls and trying to lump him in the swiftboaters is not going to change that.

McCain shows us once again that he has no principles, scruples or respectability (not to mention a total lack of sense of humor). His flippant response to the queston sounds about like the "bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" statement that he made. Off the cuff, provocative, and not the kind of response we need to hear from a president.
