Campaign says McCain didn't hear question on attack book

McCain isn't commenting on Corsi's new book.

(CNN) - John McCain's campaign is denying Democratic charges the presumptive Republican nominee flippantly dismissed a new book attacking Barack Obama that includes several documented falsehoods.

Asked by the Associated Press earlier Friday what he though of author Jerome Corsi's new book, "The Obama Nation," McCain said, "gotta keep your sense of humor."

Those comments were immediately slammed by the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee, which e-mailed its 3.4 million supporters declaring, "John McCain thinks smears and lies are funny."

"Despite pledging to run a respectful campaign, McCain is just standing by while Corsi and his publisher, former Dick Cheney aide Mary Matalin, poison this presidential race," read the e-mail from DNC Rapid Response Team.

Watch: Is Obama being swift-boated?

But McCain spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan said later Thursday the Arizona senator actually did not hear the question, and would not be commenting on the book.

The book, which is expected to debut No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list, repeats many long-discredited falsehoods about the Illinois senator, including the claim that he is Muslim.

Corsi, who has said he's on a “mission” to take down Obama, also co-wrote "Unfit for Command" - the 2004 book that spawned the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth attacks against then-Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.

Well if some where to wrote a book about McCain as a POW, and rightfully highlight how he violated the code of conduct by sighing statements admitting war crimes and showing pictures when he was used in propaganda films he would be out raged. The difference here is that the Obama book is a falsehoods, while what McCain did would be true. I wonder what kind of sense of humor McCain would have, if it was pointed out that he was not man enough to take one for the team.

Rush told me to vote for John McCain. I believe everything Rush tells me to believe because he dropped out of school and is still the smartest man on Earth. He even has a golden microphone to prove it.Once in a while I try to think think for myself and look for facts, but he told me he has all the facts and just to listen to him and buy all the neat things his sponsors want to sell me.I love Rush Limbaugh.

If he really didn't hear the question what did he open up his mouth for? McCain is too quick to act before letting everything sink in, just like his initial response to the Georgia-Russia war.

It works because Republicans are willing to do anything to win. That is something any American should be proud of.

    so in other words....

he was too old to hear the question...he's losing his hearing

so i guess he is going to make the Chairman(woman) of the Joint Chiefs
repeat time and time again because McCain is losing his hearing......

yeah......he should definitely be President of the United States.

I've lost all respect for John McCain. He's sold his soul for a chance to win and traded his integrity for gutter tactics. Where is the courage he showed during his capture by the Vietnamese?

McCain is unethical and a coward. How dare he "choose not to comment" on a pack of clear and unambiguous lies! That is not the action of a true soldier. He's nothing but an old politician, willing to take advantage of the gullibility of voters that will buy this pack of lies. Just like they bought the SwiftBoatLiars.

I miss the ol' John McCain. The one that stood for something, even when it wasn't politically correct or expedient amongst his base.

Let's see, would McCain we the guy we want doing diplomacy in hotspots around the world? Someone makes a proposal, he quickly agrees to it, then they go to work out the details, and he says, "Wait, I didn't hear you - you mean Russia just annexed the United States and I said 'Yes'??" It's like the Puffy Shirt, you said Yes!!

Why are the media outlets dignifying Corsi and his book? The love of money and ratings! Yes! Stop the madness! Has most of America lost its sense of decency? Corsi is an evil man. The book is a certified peace of trash. The book should be banned from decent book stores or sold only with a disclaimer about the accuracy of its contents. The
main stream media should not be a partner in the poisioning of the minds of the American public. The book is unfit for publication!

I am shocked that C-SPANN will have this ugly, poor excuse of a human being on its Saturday morning lineup. What is our nation coming to? No pusher of lies and hatred should be given an open forum on a program that the revenue from my cable bill payments is helping to make possible. This is totally disgusting!

Show my something that he has done in Chicago or in the US Senate.

Somebody tell me something, please do not tell me about his community orgizer experience, I know that already.

Nothing to see beyond thoes speeches.

Q: President McCain, there is a Huge benifit to USA in taking this project forward. Do you agree we go for it.
    A: Absolutely NOT.

    A week Later:
President McCain apologizes for not taking the right step when it is too late. he says he didn't the question.

This is just the man I want in the White House – a man who appears worse than GWB; who makes jokes about women being raped by a gorilla; who offers his wife up to bikers' crude idea of a pageant called 'Miss Buffalo Chip' where obscene gestures are made with bananas with women in half-nude bikinis. Who doesn't hear or think that the majority of people in this country are hurting economically – no recession here!
    WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!
This guy is not a 'maverick'; He is a LOOSE CANNON!

McCain's answer right out of the Ronald Reagan "Book of Answers" and we know where Reagan's head was at by the time he left office!
I don't believe in age discrimination, because I myself am not too young, McCain is OLD.

As usual, the liberal media lapdogs, an obama through his surrogates are looking for anything they can to cast McCain in a bad light. McCain said he has made no comment on the book. I would not be surprised to find that the book is very factual. If obama had been forthright from the beginning about his racist, socialist past his campaign would not have to be always be in a defensive position. Looks like obama's chickennnnnnnnnnnnnnn's are coming home to roost!

Just curious...I read these comment every now and then. It seems that Obama campaign workers wait to bounce on the latest story and blast McCain and praise Obama. It all doesn't really have much meaning after a while...just noise.

So McCain's defense is he's losing his hearing?? When that phone rings at 3AM, we need a President that can HEAR IT RING!!

But seriously... McCain is trying to have it both ways, again. What happened to the "honorable" campaign he was going to run? Smear books like this are the prime example of dirty politics, but McCain's response is to laugh about it, and then claim he didn't hear the question. REPEAT THE QUESTION.

Take a stand, McCain. Draw a line in the sand, and get on the right side, or the Rove side!!

These presidential campaign are getting horrible. I like a lot of other voters are really getting sick of the outright lies and deceptivenessof these campaigns, These people making these TV ads and smear campaigns, are not good decent Americans,

Heres an idea. How about the REAL facts about both candidates
being put out there for voters to see and letting us make our OWN minds up instead of the scare tactics that go on now!!!!.

Then let the best man win!!!

McLame is despicable. I guess this is yet another instance of the CANDIDATE not speaking for the CAMPAIGN. They could have at least come up with a better excuse than this one. People are actually voteing for this moron?! No wonder America is seen as the dumbest nation on the planet.
