McCain set a new personal fundraising best in July, says his campaign.

(CNN) — John McCain’s campaign said Friday that he raised $27 million in July – his best monthly fundraising haul yet.

The total bests his $21 million total in June, the presumptive Republican nominee's previous best. “This is now the fifth month in a row that we have exceeded the month before in terms of total fundraising,” said campaign manager Rick Davis on a conference call with reporters.

Barack Obama’s campaign has not yet announced its fundraising total for the month of July. The campaign has reported it pulled in roughly $52 million in donations in June.

I really appreciate and love all the Obama supporters. Do you realize we're fighting a 3 front battle. McCain, Puma's, Current Admin.

Do you think the lobbyists and corporations will miss their money?

Your best is Obama's worst, but it if makes you feel good gramps.

Let's see: 2 million REGULAR, EVERYDAY, HARDWORKING AMERICAN PEOPLE who make less than $250,000 decide to give an average of about $25 to Obama. And John McCain gets some $27 Million after overtly (for some of you narrow-minded people it means Purposely, right in your face) Lobbying for Nuclear Power Plants and Off-shore drilling with no sign of mentioning "Responsible Development" of either. Our 2 million Trumps your $27 million any day. And ah, for the Hillary Supporters, I think Hillary is great and made history. But it's like an old song, "A Change is gonna Come- -Oh yes it is". And for the people that forget- -History was made By Obama too! With his 18 Million PLUS Voters!

Obama's campaign just topped 2,000,000 unique donors.

This is a campaign powered by the people.

That is .66% of the population of the US, and 1.6% of registered Democrats (working from the numbers given by the Democratic Party for the number of Registered Democrats in America)

This does not seem to be "powered by the people"
Especially since .65% of the population of the US are Millionaires…

Did someone just say that Obama flip flops and McCain doesnt?! They all do.

McCain changed his mind on Offshore Drilling (he was against it for over 15 year).

McCain changed his mind on Immigration reform in order to win his parties support.

McCain changed his mind on the corrupt and un-christian Christian Coalition that he once attacked and now is buddy buddy with.

Over 60% of soldiers who donated to a presidential candidate donated to Obama. Rather than be here in the good ol' USA and decide who has the best ideas for foreign policy, try going out there. Ask THOSE guys, and they are supporting Obama.

McCain has openly admitted he knows nothing about the Economy. He fired his top Economic advisor (because the guy is a jerk).

A President is who they surround themselves with, not just the guy running. McCain is surrounding himself with crooks and lobbyists. Even if you like him, his entire cabinet will be crooks.

Obama is HARDLY a liberal. He is against gay Marriage and thinks Democrats should be more open about religion to name a few.

He is a Moderate leaning left. With big ideas and he doesn't play the negative campaign that is the only reason McCain is still alive in the poles.

CM   August 15th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

Well he did work one weekend this month so thats gotta count for something right?

Wouldn't be surpised if Obama also breaks all records these past months as well. The McCain false attack ads are serving to mobilize the donors on the Dems side.

Doesn't matter though, when Johnny takes the public financing he'll be stuck with hard fiancial limits. Obama on the other hand is not taking taxpayer's money but rather accepting donations from those willing to give and will have far more to fight the smears.

Just look and see what happens to all those 'GOP strongholds' come Nov. Alaska is already polling as leaning blue along with a few other states. Check it out yourself if you don't belive me.

Will, NJ   August 15th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

In John McCain's 26 years in office, what has the man accomplished? He's had years to push legislation for all these things he's promising, but only now when he needs votes he says he'll do it. It seems he has no plans other than to fly a plane full of money and drop it on Iraq.

So if obama is connected to the little guy and the little guy is going broke just where in the heck is obama getting all HIS money. I think it is time CREW asked the government to do a thorough search of just where obama's money is coming from. Of course we all know Chicago gangster rezko and Iraqi gangster auchi financed his State and Federal runs for the senate. The press did report on that and obama SAYS he returned the money.

Tray in St. Louis   August 15th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

While the number is good for him I'm thinking it's to low. When I say that I'm thinking they are up to something. Look at how much his party is putting in the bank. They are about to do a double dip in front of all of us.

While he has accepted public financing he knows there is no need to pull in big dollars. So what I see going on is the party is hauling in tons right now, if you look you will see it too.

Yes he will use this money as if it was his, with the public financing!

We need to keep our eyes open to all.

Dear Sir: Economic disaster is getting a balance budget, regular payments to the debt, and turning the economy to a whooping TEN TRILLION DOLLAR DEBT & OVER 600 BILLION DOLLAR SKYROKETING DEFICIT. That has been the result of the Bush Admistration Sir.. And you sir want to ignore reality, and continue the disastrous policies of the bush Administration. Every single time a Republican administration has been in government, it has increased the debt, and has left taxpayers with excruciating deficits. Is well known that “R” in “Republican” stands for recession.

You are in no position to call anybody an economic disaster.

Folks,

Has anyone noticed how John McCain's skin tone looks quite pallid and almost yellow? This is usually a sign of some kind of illness.

Maybe it is just my observation being a bit off.

Where is all this "money, spent on a lost cause"; coming from? Don't they know, the Repulicans will not win this election. It will be ither Obama or Hillary Clinton, if her bitter supporters can pull off a last minute miracle; in the White House, not John McCain in 2009………

Greg, San Francisco, CA   August 15th, 2008 11:35 am ET

"John McCain’s campaign said Friday that he raised $27 million in July – his best monthly fundraising haul yet."…"Barack Obama’s campaign has not yet announced its fundraising total for the month of July. The campaign has reported it pulled in roughly $52 million in donations in June." So John McCain raises highest fundraising total is half as much as an average month for Obama. Yep he sure is gaining ground! Still waiting for someone to give a compelling reason to vote for McCain that doesn't somehow disparage Obama or Democrats. McCain has no merits to speak of.

Randy S.   August 15th, 2008 11:35 am ET

you nailed it, matt. These Obamaniansreally aren't thinking. They will four years from now if he wins. When their taxes have gone up, When the rest of the industrialized world has run roughshod over us because he hasn't got the cojones to stand up to them.
Imagine what Russia would do if he was president, Putin's now let it be known that he wants the old USSR back again; not that that should have been any surprise. It was just a matter of time and McCain recognized that. Tell me who's acting presidential in that situation? McCai, who's not afraid to call a spade a spade; or Obama whose playing on the beaches of Hawaii while Georgia, an American ally, burns.
Regarding the "Windfall Profits tax that the O-man wants to levy on the oil companies: Do you folks really think the oil companies are going to pay that tax? Ummm, nope, that will just trickle down to the pumps. Folks wake up, he's just recycling Jimmy Carter's ideas, check back and see how well they worked in the 1980's.

Wake up, voters!

Mike from St. Louis   August 15th, 2008 11:33 am ET

I really wonder how much of this "fundraising" was from lobbyiest and big oil? This is simply the rich trying to keep the interest of soley the rich in place. I'd bet that McCain or McBush can care less about where the funding comes from. Especially when he continues to have closed door fundraises going on. What's to hide by closing the door? Trying not to be seen with his Bush buddies???

@Oregon Says… : "I'm sure the 27 million is made up of the contributions of like 8 CEO's and 9 sports owners…. wow… quite a coalition of supporters."

I agree, and what big business owners want isn't necessarily what's best for the majority of Americans.

@baby mama : "clearly momentum is building for McCain………first the polls…now fund raising………Hillary at the convention………..Obamamites scrambling………..it is all slipping way"

Why would you possibly hope that McCain would win? Who does that benefit? Will you be better off with more war, higher medical costs, more economic decline, and a continuation of an atmosphere of fear and paranoia? In any case, go to gallup's web site and look at the graph of Obama vs. McCain over the past FOUR MONTHS. You will see the curves fluctuate, and even cross a few times, but there is a definite, small average advantage for Obama. All the times that "shifts in public opinion" were hyped by the news, the polling hasn't really changed at all in the past four months. Obama has kept an edge of a few percentage points. There's no scrambling. There's no slipping away. There's a steady advantage, and, given that it hasn't changed in four months, it's unlikely to change in the 80 days or so remaining before the election. I hope Obama wins, for America's sake. I don't know why anyone would hope otherwise.

@ReaganDem84 : "I've switched my $20.44 bi-weekly payments from Hillary to John!"

Why in the world would you do that? If you believed in Hillary, then you believe in the Democratic platform. Hillary is now campaigning for Obama. Hillary ran in the election to DEFEAT McCain. So now you're going against Hillary's desire to defeat McCain? You're supporting Hillary's opponent? Why? I hope you think about what it was that made you think Hillary would make a good president, and then choose to continue to support her and her party, including her colleague, Obama. They competed in the primary because they had slightly different visions for America (small differences in their foreign policy approaches, and small differences in their health care plan ideas), but now that the primaries are over, they're hoping to take their shared ideas to the White House and to the bureaus and departments of government. Please reconsider your decision to switch your support from Hillary to McCain.

Okay, now I want to hear you Obama hating military types explain again that we should rely on the opinions of our men and women in uniform when considering who is better on defense issues. It looks like the military has spoken as to who they have confidence in!!!!!!!!!!
____________________

That has also been reported in different military "news" papers. It is a fact and it could be because Obama was for the new G.I. Bill and McCain was against it. Over all voting records compared, Obama's vote on Veterans issues far exceeded the voting record of McCain. You can check various sites that are middle of the road, that don't have a political agenda and that are true fact finders as opposed to those right or left wing sites.

Exiting to see what Obama does in July. Sure, the corporate slush funds are for Obama. However, no one believe any more the campaign bragging that little people's money is why Obama has mountains of dollars. Corporate money goes both ways.

No matter how many lies he puts into his ads, no matter how much crying and threatening the liar hillary supporters do it will be just like the liar hilalry's campaign he will spend millions more than he has, he will lie about obama and"throw the kitchen sink" at him, he will try fear and distortion, he will claim media bias and sexism.. err ageism, he will say the election was rigged, he will claim that he is just an ordianry guy and throw back a boilermaker or two, and just like the liar hillary truth and the better candidate will overcome all this and beat him

OBAMA! the next president! i cannot wait until both the liar hillary and the corporate puppy mccain have to congratulate Obama and call him Mr. Presidnet!

And for those who say that ageism is being used against the corporate puppy mccain I simply point out it is not his AGE that makes him old it is his inability to remember anything!

If you want to use the experiance line I will also point out that in the 70s (where the corporate puppt mccain is stuck by his own admission) IBM had all the experiance and Microsoft was the untried new guy… or maybe I should use the big three had all the experiance and Honda was the untried new guy…

U.S. soldiers have donated more presidential campaign money to Democrat Barack Obama than to Republican John McCain, a reversal of previous campaigns in which military donations tended to favor GOP White House hopefuls, a nonpartisan group reported Thursday.

So where is John McShame campaign money coming from other than his lobbyist friends and big oil corporations!

The best month lobbyist can buy for Bush's affiliate, Rick Davis, in the McCain campaign.

I'd much rather be part of the over 2,000,000 donors funding the Obama campaign by the American people.

William Hamilton, Charleston, SC   August 15th, 2008 11:05 am ET

It seems odd the the Republican's can't generate the donations Obama has been getting. Many are apparently funneling their support to independent organizations and party committees where the donations limits don't apply. It's illegal to coordinate that activity, so it will be interesting to see if this Rupublican effort can send a coherent message when the campaign gets fast and furious. Of course there may be some really terrible independent efforts towards the end, racist organizations, that can capitalize on the situation. I epxect the last two weeks of the campaign will be unlike anything ever seen in American politics. I expect McCain will spend a lot of time repudiating independent efforts.

RealVoter   August 15th, 2008 11:05 am ET

Comments to MCains Ad:

This Ad is full of Lies. Obama's new taxes are for the people who make more than 250k and which are only about 3-4% of the population. For example it will raise taxes on McCain’s family who spend hundreds of thousand on credit cards every month. People like that shouldn’t have any problem paying additional couple thousand taxes.

I am not sure how this will raise Gas price. It seems like Gas price go up when there is a dispute. McCain has higher probability to open another war which definitely will increase Gas price. So no it’s not Obama, It’s McCain who will be responsible for higher Gas price. Also we all know that oil loobyst is in his campaign.

And how many earmarks has Obama taken?

McCain? Hmm… Interesting. McCain hasn't taken any… EVER!

Obama is trying to buy the election because he's to scared to debate McCain. Obama has no stances. If people actually read up on BOTH candidates, they would learn.

Obama is a coward. Obama supporters are either brainless want this country to fail.

McCain's campaign and platform is based on true values that don't sway and change with the word on the street. McCain is one of the most bi-partisan senators in America, while Obama is the most liberal.

Bill Clinton looks like a 'right-wing nutjob' next to Obama.

No, McCain is the best candidate now. Unfortunately the liberal media outlets are set on helping Obama take over without debating McCain…

Maybe he can get a public donation "SURGE" that will help him carry votes in that new Louisiana Purchase Territory.

Loopholes   August 15th, 2008 10:42 am ET

McCain, whose campaign is predicting a campaign budget of $400 million through the November 4, is skillfully exploiting loopholes in a campaign finance law that he wrote.
Here's the nuts-and-bolts of the loophole: the money McCain is currently raising through the campaign committees which reported their quarterly results on July 15 is actually being funneled to the Republican National Committee, even though each campaign committee bears McCain's name.
There are two reasons why the money is transferred to the RNC. First, if it were not transferred to the RNC, the money could not be used in the general. Second, by raising the money for the RNC, McCain is able to take advantage of a much higher contribution limits, allowing each donor to contribute $70,000 to his campaign instead of the $2,300 limit that Barack Obama's general election campaign has.

karen-phoenix   August 15th, 2008 10:41 am ET

McCain and his connections to big oil will get him in a lot of hot water!!! Looks like his lobbiest advisor to Georgia is behind pushing Georgia into attacking Russia at the advice of McCain. HOW STUPID can these people be. Start a war and kills thousands again just to get elected. McCain you are sooo much more crooked than you were in the Keating 5 and you should have gone to jail then! What a sleezy little man with a narcisstic wife!

Giving money to McCain on a monthly basis helps me cope with Obamania and all his fans. At least McCains money is coming from domestic contributers, you know the ones that vote.

It was released today that soldiers overseas have contributed over 6 times more money to Obama than McCain. McCain is the sure loser in this race. Why doesn't he go back to cheating on/beating his wife and calling her the "C" word.

I don't care how much McCain raised. Obama will bankrupt him before this is over with. While McCain puts out yet another lying ad, Obama registers 3,000 more people which = more donations for him.

Obama/Sebelius 2008/2012.

MD   August 15th, 2008 10:36 am ET

While 27 million might sound like a lot, but if there was trust and enthusiasm on the part of the traditional Rebublicab base, McCane should have raised at least twice that.

One of the reasons he is so heavily relying on lobbyists is that there is little or no money is coming his way from the Republican Base. I have not heard figures on public's contributions. I guess they are so minor that they are ashamed to announce them.

So go ahead CNN–Keep trying to brush McCane's gaffes and his lack of morality and lack of character under the rug in your "news"rooms. The American people are a lot smarter now that they have been stung by Bush.

Chuck   August 15th, 2008 10:35 am ET

Wow, this old Republican is pulling in good money. If Obama's numbers stay this low McCain will beat him in Nov. Why cant Obama get his numbers up? This is not good for Obama unless he gets his numbers up to 10+.

Denise   August 15th, 2008 10:35 am ET

Weak, weak, weak! I suspect Obama's will be around $55 million!

Rich   August 15th, 2008 10:35 am ET

So, McCain's all time record is about half of what Obama raised in June?

Nikhil   August 15th, 2008 10:34 am ET

Like really, who cares, Obama will crush his numbers with his 2 million donors, and i am one of those proud 2 million.

It's unfortunate for the McCain contributors how McCain has wasted their hard earned money on low road ads full of nothing but negativity McCain said he was above.

Chuck R   August 15th, 2008 10:33 am ET

As a Democrat it is getting pretty scary. Obama is better than 50 electoral votes behind where Karry was at this point 4 years ago. When you look at the state by state polling data, the newest poll has Obama losing Colorado, where he has led all year and Nevada and Missouri where he has been up and down. Virginia is tied and Ohio and Florida are begining to look like lost causes.

All of this while the Democrats are leading in races for the US Senate in seats that had been GOP, including Colorado, Virginia, Alaska, New Mexico, and tied in Minnesota. He better figure out how to kick start this thing soon.

INDEPENDENT NYC   August 15th, 2008 10:32 am ET

McCain was against off shore drilling until he received a donation from top executives in 3 of the major oil companies in excess of 3 millions. After the funds started rolling in McCain announced that he is reversing his position on off shore drilling and now is in favor of it.

McCain offers a government for sale. Contributions are one thing but changing your position because of the contributions spell corruption.

Apparently with the contribuitions of Shell, Exxon and BP McCain has funds to spare. One question, how is it that McCain "raised" this money and he opted for "public financing".

sacto joe   August 15th, 2008 10:31 am ET

At the beginning of Bill Clinton's first term, the Republicans said his economic package would spell disaster for the country. Now Senator McCain is saying the same thing about Senator Obama's economic package.

No matter how much you raise Obama will always raise double or even tripple.

Kevin Leo (Jonesboro, GA)   August 15th, 2008 10:24 am ET

I love McCain's math!!! He claims that Barack is more closely tie to Bush because Barack voted with Bush almost 50% of the time. However, he dismisses the notion that he is tied to Bush, with whome he voted in agreement 95% of the time. Now he wants to brag about raising 27million when Barack generally raises almost twice that amount each month. And there are people out there who seriously want McCain handling our nation's finances?!?!?!?!

Misty Seattle,WA   August 15th, 2008 10:24 am ET

This is a campaign powered by the people.

Lorna, NY   August 15th, 2008 10:08 am ET

I think 21 Million of that is from Cindy.

Big D   August 15th, 2008 10:08 am ET

So McCain's best is still only half of Obama's? That seems to hold true across a wide spectrum of categories, doesn't it? I want to see more details about how many contributors each had, since Obama gets money from so many more small contributors (and still gets more total donations). And how much is coming from big contributors, and how much is coming from national lobbyists? Follow the money – and more of Obama's donations come from ordinary citizens, which means he'll be less beholden to certain special interests.

Debby   August 15th, 2008 10:08 am ET

Good for him. Its funny Obama out raises him in monies, he draws thousands with his rallies and speech's and yet he can't even come in double digit polls so close to the convention and even the election for that matter. Maybe being just a windbag with no experience isn't cutting it with voters.

Dan , TX   August 15th, 2008 10:06 am ET

How many new donors? What was the average size of the donation? There is no information here that tells us the breadth of support. Does McCain have 2 million donors like Obama?

Jim   August 15th, 2008 10:06 am ET

Just got this gut feeling that McCain- the Patriot would take the oath on 20th Jan. Obama just lost the nomination because he was supposed to open up a big lead and then just slightly dip before the polls but now this guy is running neck and neck with John McCain in a year when the GOP brand is discredited. Never forget that Obama underperforms when people actually vote.

Why don't you guys disclosed who are the corporations that are going to be running the country?

These donors don't really have use for their hard earned cash. This is a multi millionaire who normally should spare the poor of their dollars and leave the street for the poor street community organiser.
Moreover any dollar to mcWAR is financing the opportunity to have more wars this time with Russia as he has indicated in the last couple of days.
But when this war comes-God forbid! he should do well to send his own children to die in the war front.

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   August 15th, 2008 9:51 am ET

Okay, this would be good for the McCain campaign. I have the question of does this really matter since he is going to be limited because of the federal limits since he accepted matching funds? I still think that he is going to have a problem winning because of several issues: support is energized; not getting a positive message or even a message; almost always being negative; being connected with an unpopular war and president.

good for you McCain
glad to see you're doing just fine sticking to your word and not using the public funds like Obama is.

Sue   August 15th, 2008 9:43 am ET

It's not how much money a candidate has available to spend, but it's the candidate's message that's important. Obama's message changes everyday, so I guess he is just trying to spend all that money he is getting. He's wasting your contributions, folks — he has no message. "Hope" and "Change" won't cut it. We would hope he stops changing his position on everything every day.

The truth is..   August 15th, 2008 9:43 am ET

Interesting that he should announce a new record in fundraising considering that his lobbyists accepted over a billion dollars from big money corporations for many years now.
