LAKE FOREST, California (CNN) — Barack Obama got in a good dig on Rick Warren. The question was about definition of "rich" — Obama basically said somebody who sells 25 million books — like Warren has. The crowd loved it; this guy has a mega-church, as well as a mega-fortune. But Warren didn't seem to take offense

Obama gave specifics about taxes on this question and was honest that someone has to pay taxes. McCain gave his typical no taxes answer, which is not realistic.

Kudos to you Obama. How right you are…this Warren guy is nothing but a religious phoney who has made a lot of money off people who believe in Christianity. My my, but Jesus would have been ashamed of you Mr. Warren. Maybe Obama was sick of the sham of this forum…it was obviously a set up forum with McCain. Pleaseeeeee

But, Rick Warren gives 90% of his money to needy causes. For those of us in the know, this was a cheap shot from a disrespectful novice! :(

I think it's unfortunate that Billy Graham didn't host this evening. He's probably one of the few ministers whom God has reserved a place for.

A pastor that happens to be a multi-millionaire, makes me question where his faith really lies.

Ye poor and starving flock of mine. Don't let your pockets be laden with evil money. Send it to me, for I have the wisdom to dispose of it.

Obama spoke from a personal faith base level and from his heart. John McWar did nothing but campaign and spoke of war and every answer.

Obama 08

Roger from CA   August 17th, 2008 12:24 am ET

Oh, please!! He didn't take offense because he wasn't dense enough to think it was anything other than good-natured ribbing. No one was confused here, except (apparently) you.

GrandMa   August 16th, 2008 11:55 pm ET

with Rick Warren way asking the quistions I wonder when he is coming out of the room and vote for McBush

Kris a Dem from MCcain land   August 16th, 2008 11:48 pm ET

He is the man of the clothe. Of course he will not take offense to it and turn the other cheek. My guess he will have a punching bag or speed bag at home he can lay into lol

Tonight was a staged set-up for McCain. He said everything the conservatives wanted to hear. That crowd was for McCain. McCain is completely one sided and unreasonable. Obama is what this country needs, because these issues, they are gray areas. The whole country is not a country of just evangelicals, and McCain, as well as the evangelicals, NEED TO GET THAT THROUGH THEIR THICK SKULLS!

DR. YES   August 16th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

obama seems more 'real' than mccain.mccain seemed 'rehearsed'.

What the media may not know is the fact that after the success of Warren's book, The Purpose-Driven Life, he repaid his church for all the past years of salary received. In addition, he does not receive a salary from Saddleback church. Furthermore, his family continues to live modestly, using whatever influence or fortune that came with the success of the book to advance important causes around the world.

This, to me, is remarkable in this day and age. I, for one, am encouraged by the sincere attempts Warren makes to help facilitate dialogue on important issues and values that ought to define how we chart the course of our country's future.

are you serious?   August 16th, 2008 11:05 pm ET

"a shot of his own"

Why, was Rick Warren shooting something??

d   August 16th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

I think this was a set up!!!! As much as I respect Pastor Warren….. He allowed McCain 2go on and on with his war stories!!!!!!!! I'm SURE MCCAIN HAD THE QUESTIONS BEFORE HE WENT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOW, OBAMA 08

Norma   August 16th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

John McCain did not answer the question he dodged with a bunch of nonsense.

FV   August 16th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

Why are all these written by Candy? and is she getting paid by the Blog?

Obama owned McCain tonight….. to the vast majority of Americans with a functioning brain anyway.

Shannon   August 16th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

was there a need to insult his host, or is that just part of the politics of hope and change

Monica for Obama in Indiana   August 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

And mccain never answered the same questions.

ALLAN USA.   August 16th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

McCain look much better than Obama. In skale 1-10 McCain 8–Obama 2. No Q. about it. Let's be fare,McCain won.

jim Quinn   August 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

I was appaled by the obvious bias in tonights program from 8-10:00 pm whereby the moderator constantly cauationed Senator Obama not to answer with a stump speech and let Senator McCain addres the audience4 quite often with a stump speech.

I thought CNN waas above such shennanigans,

Patrick   August 16th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Were you watching the same thing I was? Obviously not, or you don't have humor. It was clearly in jest, it wasn't taking a shot.

Brian   August 16th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Warren does give away 90 percent of his income, so I doubt that he's mega-rich.

Jim   August 16th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Warren knew it was a joke. In addition, Warren is giving most of the profit to the church or other charity causes.

Comment...   August 16th, 2008 9:01 pm ET

Well, he asked, not only did he ask, he asked for a monetary amount.

Bradley In Colorado   August 16th, 2008 8:59 pm ET

I'm voting Obama, if only to spite the PUMA spiters.

Jon   August 16th, 2008 8:59 pm ET

Waren does give 90% of his income away – so still probably a fortune, just not necessarily a mega-fortune!

John   August 16th, 2008 8:59 pm ET

Why is every post about Obama so far?
