Sen. Obama deplaned in Chicago Saturday after a week-long vacation in Hawaii with his family.

(CNN) – Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential bid added more than 65,000 new donors and raised more than $51 million in the month of July, the Obama campaign said in a statement released Saturday.

“The 65,000 new donors to the Obama campaign demonstrate just how strongly the American people are looking to fundamentally change business as usual in Washington,” Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said in the statement.

The campaign of Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, announced Friday that it raised $27 million in July. The Republican National Committee also announced Friday that it raised $26 million in the same timeframe and has received donations from more than a million donors during this election cycle.

The Obama campaign recently announced that it has surpassed the 2-million-donor mark and said Saturday that it currently has $65.8 million in cash on hand.

We need to be very watchful of the Clinton's (Father, Mother and Daughter) relationship to the electoral colleges. Remember that the Electoral Colleges were responsible for George Bush winning the last election. Considering all the factors that Barack Obama and our camp are up against, it is very important that we demonstrate twice as much effort than those who feel that they were destined for the American Presidency.

Way to go Obama!!! He does not need Hillary Clinton or for that matter Bill-o either. He's going to have enough problems to solve from the Oval Office, he does not need these two there trying to run the country again. I have never seen two people who do not understand the word "defeated".

Raymond Duke   August 16th, 2008 8:23 pm ET

If that book is so slanderous about Obama and it is all lies as you people state then I am sure since you paid for him and his family and friends to vacation in Hawaii you would not mind him spending a few million to put this suppossedly liar in his place and show him for what he is. If he does not pursue this course of action well where there is smoke there is usually fire. Get on it Obama and show these true believers the truth.

Barack the Vote!   August 16th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

Wolf,

You forget, Senator Obama has OVER 18 million supporters too, THE 65,000 ARE ADDED NEW DONORS! Stop trying to hate on Senator Obama's very real efforts and ability to inspire people. One thing to keep in mind, HIS CAMPAIGN IS NOT IN DEBT, Hillary Clinton's is! Now, LOL at that! Oh, and by the way, in case you're new to this political scene, the polls change daily and are very unreliable at this point in the campaign! I wouldn't be doing to much "LOL" if I were you, especially since John McCain has not maintained a SOLID LEAD over a CONSISTENT PERIOD OF TIME!

E.C.Coleman   August 16th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

There is NO WAY that figure is believable……….Obama's numbers are totally incongruous with that amount of fund raising, and frankly, it is probably NOT TRUE. There isn't a person I know who has EVER, EVER been POLLED………………the POLLS are so hyped, fraudulent and manipulated by the Democrats and the Media in unison, it is totally dishonest. Obama will NOT win in November….NO WAY!!! Raising a lot of money and trying to force his way into the main stream and intimidate the Republicans………doesn't work. Obama hasn't got the goods or the experience to win. It's already the middle of August, and Obama is losing big time. This is only the beginning and people are just now realizing how totally unqualified Obama really is as a candidate.

Wolf, how much did McCain raise in July? (Hint: it's not even half of $51 million). And how much have the PUMAs raised in their protest for Hillary? $50,000. You'd think if there really were 18 million voters for Hillary they could do better. Get ready for president Obama.

No matter what happens and who raises the most, this election year as shown that the White House is up for sale. Like any of the candidates are going to do something for me, when there is someone else making contributions. What I do not understand, is if there is a limit on how much a person contribute, why are the political parties stating they are receiving so much?

The other part of this is why is it that the news media has not asked Obama for the list of contributors. No matter who his opponent was, he always reports more contributions.

Was this the reason why Obama abandoned his principles of public financing? This is a clear message that he would do anything to win.
I hope he would be forthcoming on the values he practised at the faith meeting this evening, and how the values he practised are at variance with the ones he preached.

McCain $27M; Obama $51M. Sorry, Wolf. Try as might to help McBush pull over Clinton supporters, it's not going to happen and the money proves it. And, no, he doesn't need HRC. Nice try trying to budge that one along too. Democrats are beyond the "pumas" and the "no deal", republicans trying to divide our party. It's just not going to happen regardless of what you try to do. I know. It's a tough pill to swallow.

After the her "speech" at the convention Hillary is TOAST! The roll call at the first vote will only highlight the ones to be replaced in the next election. ( I know Maxine Waters and Sanchez in California are out. People here are sick of them). Now all Barack Obama has to do is let McBush have it straight and uncut at the debates and this country can move forward. John McCain is too old to lead his self out of the bathroom let alone a country. He is confused, uninformed and far too ignorant of world events to be even considered Presidential. The Republicans know this. That is why it's "every man/woman for themselves" with regards to their convention.

I'm an Independent voter in Arizona and, I have yet to see one positive post on this site about McSame. So it suprises me that so many republicans are supporting McBush so blindly. Obama has out raised McWar in Arizona also. I would at least think that some of the McCain supporters would have noticed that people in Arizona don't have an overwhelming like for the guy. I at least would think they would be curious why so many in Az have negative eelings about McFlip flop.

This is the first time I've given money to support a political campaign. The other side can say what they want, but I believe in what's taking place with the Obama campaign. The winds of change are blowing across this country. I plan to send more money in the near future. America, don't be fooled by the books and the rumors. The others are willing to do anything to put Obama down. As a born-again Christian, I am praying for Obama each day. May the Lord give him strength. Amen

Hatred drove us away   August 16th, 2008 6:29 pm ET

The chickens are coming home to roost.

The evil of Obama has been exposed and half of the party will not vote for him.

Price to pay for playing dirty and trashing fellow democrats JUST to win by hook or by crook.

Hillary comes out shining… Obama's luster is wearing thin.

My crystal ball predictions   August 16th, 2008 6:27 pm ET

Reality of how undesirable he is is setting in…

The DNC decided to allow the time-honored tradition of placing HRC's name into nomination.

To have blocked that symbolic and democratic process would have further weakened Obama.

Now, HRC will be recognized and then she will GIVE him her delegates. The weak Obama needs them to give a perception of strength.

HRC wins although Obama stole her nomination… Obama loses because winning by cheating and stealing is no win at all.

Obama will bear the shame of having shafted a good woman out of the nomination she earned. HRC will go down in hostory as sacrificing her personal good for the good of her party and country.

Brilliant.

Obama got ensnared in the very web of deception he spun.

Reality proved that he was UNable to win back 18 Milion democrats- even in this crisis year- even against McCain. And Hillary had to save him.

Too beautiful… irony… poetic justice.

Randy of Cleveland   August 16th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Hey wolf!! If Hillary added 65,000 new donors in one month she wouldn't be in debt!!!!!!!!

Dems are stuck in the fix they rigged   August 16th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Too bad HRC is too much of a true democrat and loyal to her party and her country.

It would have been truly democratic to have a floor fight at the convention- no Oprah or media or threats for Obama…. just a good display of the democratic process.

But HRC cares more for country and party than she cares for self- she won't risk dividing the party like selfish, arrogant Obama chose to do for his personal gain.

Obama played dirty to steal the nomination.

HRC will show herself the better person and the true leader, by LETTING him cheat and steal it- rather than risking a divided party.

She will give Obama her delegates.

People will then realize that she is the less selfish and more dedicated leader. But too late…. we will be stuck with the Obama.

I've always wondered if there was any truth to the polling information. The polls seem to suggest that the race is so close. If so, it is certainly hard to tell by the fundraising numbers. McCain raised $25 or $26 million. Barack has raised $51 million. That is a big difference.

The voters are speaking! People want a "real" person as President, no more smirking clowns and related governing incompetence. McCain has surrendered his role as leader of his own campaign to the Rovian minions who only know how to be attack dogs, dividers and who dwell in the underworld of negativity. It seems many find the low road practices of the McCain campaign acceptable; maybe for some of these numbed persons a thawing will occur.

the educated smart ones are for Obama?????   August 16th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

Obama will lose- even though Americans thirst for change- because of the ugly and ignorant vitriol from Obama fans against any American who is NOT voting for Obama.

Force will not gain votes for your candidate… neither will insults and hate.

So accept that people are still free to vote for one of our lousy options.

HRC was the ONLY good option and she will graciously give her delegates to Obama after the first vote at the convention.

She will shine and he will come off looking like he needed her to win- which, by the way, is the simple truth.

The only comments for a ticker like this usually have absolutely nothing to do with the article itself… so this is a ticker article where people just vent… like Dag.. who's under the delusion that Hillary is going to be or needs to be selected as VP… even though she's being totally divisive by putting her name in for nomination.. even though she's already conceded and endorsed Obama.

What an incredible waste of money! I'm not just talking about the Dums, but the Repugs as well. Our infrastructure is collapsing, we have wars draining the life out of our children's future, the environment is coming apart, the economy is in the toilet, the sollar is a joke, our education system is in a world of hurt, we desperately need alternative energy sources, the Fourth Amendment has all but disappeared, we've had a two-term, unelected President, the nomination process is totally corrupt, and holding cells have been constructed in Denver for those of us who refuse to toe the party line.

It certainly seems to me that the best thing that could happen is complete campaign reform, starting with the establishment of spending limits, especially if Barry Hussein Obambi and John McNutcase are the best we can come up with. It's pathetic.

We will have to adopt and implement new forms of energy usage and we will have to tighten our belts and start producing in this country again.

Wow, and you have the nerve to laugh at someone when you have reading comprehension levels of a 3rd graders.

Obama is pulling in TWICE what McCain has and it's McCain's "best month." LOLOL

I am also glad that the polls show a "close" race….it's good because it causes McCain's people to feel over-confident and keeps Obama's supporters working hard. Obama is actually ahead in the polls and trending up. More money & more donors for July is positive for him & seems better than McCain- I don't know how you can spin it another way but you can try.

Independents are smelling the roses and if Hillary were somehow in it she would be a distant 3rd among independents who again will decide this election. How about all of the 18 million Hillary voters kicking in a buck and a half to retire Clinton's debt. I hear PUMA has a whooping 50k in their coffers. I actually think Hillary is a Democrat party loyalist and to her credit she will bring in 99% of her supporters; it's those nasty bitter 1% that should vote for anybody but whoever is the Democratic party victor unless it's Hillary. There are always a few. Be positive and let's move on to a better America!

I am writing Senator Obama a check. Barrack Obama has very high moral standards. He would never disrespect his wife or children or the American people. He is not a Rock Star he's a Rising Star. I do not know how John McCain can possibly believe that the American people will elect a guy who cannot keep the sanctity of marriage. This is the same guy that barks about pork barrel spending, but John McCain doesn't mind using someone else's money to fund his campaign even though he has plenty of his own to spend.

Obama's campaign money machine is becoming an obscenity. Instead of bragging about it, the Obama campaign and Obama himself should be ashamed – people ought to send their money to the starving and homeless families of America, not to some rock star. YUCK!

Tay   August 16th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

This says something about the enthusiasm of voters. I don't think many of John McCain's supporters are completely enthralled by his candidacy. I think that Obama has many more supporters that are so ready for real change in Washington that they are willing to give up their hard earned money to show support and help make sure that their candidate wins in November. Considering the state of the economy I'm surprised that so many are willing to give up their much needed gas and groceries money.

Jay   August 16th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

I am starting to think the Obama camp is inflating it's figures. I would also call for an investigation into illegal foreign and bundled contributions . $51 million didn't all come from legitimate sources.

Dave from Menifee   August 16th, 2008 4:46 pm ET

Keep it going you can do it.

Sean from Orlando   August 16th, 2008 4:44 pm ET

Yeah, that is only because he went back on his word, flip-flopped, and decided to change is stance on public financing. Since Obama has supported Bush policy and flop-flopped on every key issues, as a Dem, he does not even stand for the same things that I would have voted for him for in the primaries! Right Obama is nothing more than a man who is perfectly happy to use race to his gain, who cannot pick a stance and stand behind it, one who supported a racist bigot church that segregates for 20 years and then contradicts the values he supported for 20 years with an idealism of Unity that does not fit his track record. When I look at Obama I see the freshmen of the Senate who is so unskilled he has to take a last minute "War for Dummies" trip to the Middle East in attempt to look more qualified for the job when in fact it made him look the opposite. He will not get me or many people that I knows vote without Clinton on his ticket anyway. As a Democrat (and yes, I am willing to prove my voting record) I will vote for McCain first because at least McCain has fought in a war. We are a country at war in two countries and God knows we have other conflicts with other countries and what we do not need is someone with 0 experiences in this field who has barely been in the Senate at all to get into office. Obama supporters can call Dems for McCain childish and try to blame Hillary over it all they want, we do not care, they just cannot except the fact that perhaps it has to do some with voters rights, some with Obama's flip-flops, a lot with his questionable support of Wright, some with Rezko, and a whole lot to do with his lack of experience. What is childish though, is voting for someone because of the color of their skin.

So what, money is not everything. John McCain is also a change. Obama will not win in November. He outraised and outspent Hillary as well and he only won because of the Superdelegates. Hillary made some critical mistakes in her campaign, otherwise she would have won the Democratic primary, it was not because Obama is so great and offers lots of change.

As we have seen, Obama is a typical politician. He gives the impression of running a positive campaign, yet, under the covers he is running negative ads in the swing states. Three years in the U.S. Senate with two of those years spent running for President. He will not win in November…too inexperienced in a dangerous world at a dangerous time.

This is a clear indication of the urgency in which Americans want change. Albeit Obama does lack experience, the 30yr Washington players have shown the american people that they can do very little, and we as american want a newer, progressive Washington. Is Barack the answer? Certainly, nobody else in Washington has been since FDR.

This begs the question "why is the race so close" ? There are many whites who cant see themselves voting for a african american to run the country. I would think other wise if Obama was running against a candidate who was just as intelligent ,charismatic, had common sense, was grounded , ran their campaign on fundemental principals ,related to all ethic groups, didnt run a smear campaign, didnt invoke fear into people to win votes, spoke intelligently on all issues ,raised more money, was youthful ,and more importantly inspires the american people. Unfortunately this is not the case. Mc CAIN HAS HAD A FREE RIDE THE WHOLE CAMPAIGN DODGING EVERY IMPERFECTION ABOUT HIM AND HIS SWIFT BOAT CAMPAIGN. Instead lounging on Hawaiian beaches, why is Barack not over talking with Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev so that he can convince them that they should really be nice guys and not blast the defenseless (and freedom loving) Georgians off the face of the earth? I'm sure that these Russians are simply not quite understanding what they are doing, and need a messiah to counsel them in taking a different course of action.

Can I leave another comment? In America there is a huge elephant in the room and noone sees it. I am refering to the well documented book "The Prosecution of George Bush for Murder" by Vincent Bugliosi. Many of us already know it and believe it. Thousands of others have not got a clue. I live in a very elegant retirement community. I doubt if ten residents know about the book,or would read it. It is appaling that this is hanging in the air and nothing is done. I can barely look at Bush when he appears on the TV.

he keeps pilling up the money and adding all these donors. it seems that the whole country is behind obama, why then does the polls show them at virtually a dead heat. something funny about that. maybe someone should verify all those donors, a quick random check should give a good indication of any funny business.

Corey, Maryland   August 16th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

We just completely blew McSame out of the water on this one….as usual!!

Elizabeth Howard Schmidt   August 16th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

I hope I am in the right place. one of my many concerns about the US is the immence amount of money used for running compaigns. Why can't we shorten the time, give each candidate the same amount of money, not from private or corporate sources but from the US funds.
This would discourage the inevetable "pay-back"which is so inevetable today.America has outgrown it's present system of elections.

You will hear more from me.

cheryl (RETIRED VETS FOR OBAMA)   August 16th, 2008 12:54 pm ET

GREAT NEWS! PREPARE TO GET MY AUG DONATION SOON. MR. OBAMA I LOVE HOW YOU USE OUR DONATIONS RESPONSIBLY….OBAMA 08

Dylan in CA   August 16th, 2008 12:52 pm ET

If this was a football game, and Team Obama beat Team McCain 51-27… that would be considered a blowout.

I think even in politics that would still be a blowout.

Obama 08

Jan   August 16th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

who knows what the truth is coming from this campaign! Why is he not more ahead in the polls with these "65,000″ new donors? sounds like "numbers, just "numbers". Something like "words, just words". Give me a break.

Bill From Florida   August 16th, 2008 12:47 pm ET

With all the money Obama is raising, you would think he would be ahead in the polls. What does that tell you??? With all the hipe about Obama , the American people just don't trust him. Most of the money donated is coming from the black community, most of these people
cannot afford food, but they are determined to have a black President.

Joe Reed   August 16th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

This is incredible, Obama consistently outraises his opponents. The enthusiasm is great. As a lifelong Republican I am encouraged and inspired by Barack Obama. This year I am voting for Barack Obama for the nest President of the United States of America.

anna   August 16th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

all of it to spend on advertising for a candidate????
does this not seem like a waste?

Bush = niaCcM   August 16th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Obama will need every penny to fight back against the republican smear machine.

John McSame Is A Two-Faced Lying Adulterer   August 16th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

yes we can!

Obama '08/'12!!!!

Generation X   August 16th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

And, how much did McCain raise??? lol…lol….lol

Turnabout is Fair Play   August 16th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

LOL! And all those McCain supporter idiots kept saying Obama won't beat McCain's $27 million raised in the same month! ROFLMAO! He raised almost TWICE as much as McNoname!

Viva Obama   August 16th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

This is what happens when you have a well organized campaign.

OBAMA LOVER FROM VIRGINIA   August 16th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

AND THE PEOPLE SAY WE DONT WANT CHANGE! WHAT DOES THIS TELL YOU HATERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please, No Obama   August 16th, 2008 12:39 pm ET

I think he will cross the billion or even trillion mark and make history. He will go down in the books as the candidate with the most prolific fundraising machine ever who could NOT win a nomination. He couldn't beat Hillary despite out-raising and out-spending her. He will wither on the vine against McCain and, in the end, the 2 million plus donors can join Oprah for a commiseration session.

JOHN SCOOTER MCCAIN   August 16th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

WAY TO GO OBAMA. MY NEXT CHECK IS IN THE MAIL.

OBAMA….08

From Florida   August 16th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

I wonder if any of Obama money came from Putin or his sympathizers as I am sure the Russians would love our next president to be wide eyed inexperient socialist.

OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUDS   August 16th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

So many more democrats are registering for Obama and so many more independents are donating to him. Llike it or not, and apparently CNN doesn't like it, Obama's our next POTUS and we'll all be the better for it. The respect and cooperation from the rest of the world alone, it worth so much and I do believe Obama's plans will lead us on the road to economic recovery as well as energy independence. McSame will lead us down the same old tired dangerous road we've been going for years now.

Minnesota against John McWar   August 16th, 2008 12:35 pm ET

Not enough guys. Lets rev it up a little. Obama needs our help. RNC+McCain got 27+26 = 53 million from big oil and big corporations. We need to get our act together.

Shannon   August 16th, 2008 12:33 pm ET

yes, and it was reported last week, that a third of Obama's donations come from big donors, the exact corporations and people he said he was trying to get out of government. As usual, he says one thing and does another……this man is such a fraud, and his supporters only know how to vote, because Oprah tells them who to pick!

Marie   August 16th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

It must be that the campaigns are legally bound to disclose this information otherwise, if I were Obama, I wouldn't let the MSM/McCain camp know anything about my campaign finances.

Mike   August 16th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

I would ask that CNN do their job and find out how much of Obama's contributions come from outside the United States. I have heard that the majority of his funding is from foreign nationals. That should be a bad omen for America.

WOOO   August 16th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

MCCAIN CAN'T STOP THE OBAMA TIDE!!!!

GoHillary   August 16th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

More of that BIG OIL money rolling in…

BWFO   August 16th, 2008 12:30 pm ET

Hey what about McCain's public financing. How much has he used?

BWFO   August 16th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

Way to go keep it coming. Victory is at hand. I gave my $25 for the month.

Bob (NC)   August 16th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

Obama has raised FAR more money than everyone else – why can't he put this election away?

APS in Hawaii   August 16th, 2008 12:28 pm ET

No matter how much the opponent raises, Obama ALWAYS raises more. I wonder if Oprah is dumping money in. Things that make you say hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!

Franky   August 16th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

For crying out loud, we have the dough, that's no problem. I knew right away when my boy didn't accept public funding or whatever is called, I knew we were going to get the dough.

RJ, CA   August 16th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

Guess there's no way Souffle (I mean Plouffe) will prove they added 65,000 new donors. Guess anyone can say that.

In any case, Obama will need all the cash he can raise — if for no other reason than to pay for his "coronation" in Denver.

McElitist   August 16th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

so screw you John McCain.
Obama will be our next President

Bulldog   August 16th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

Way to go Obama. You have run a great campaign which by itself shows you know how to lead. The "experienced" candidates have run horrible campaigns and have had to shake their entire staffs up. What does that say about their so called leadership?

DR. YES   August 16th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

clearly shows a lack of enthusiasm on the gop's part.probably why the 'few' scream so loud.

Limbaugh is my Saviour and a crook   August 16th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Obama by landslide.
