Crowley: McCain on his greatest moral failing

LAKE FOREST, California (CNN) – Pretty compelling moment when John McCain was asked about his greatest moral failing and very quietly replied: "the failure of my first marriage." You could have heard a pin drop.

As an aside: McCain was put in a "cone of silence" while Barack Obama was on stage, because he was getting the same questions.

Actually, for all we know, the "cone of silence" could just mean McCain was told NOT to let anyone know he heard the questions and Obama's answers, or perhaps he was given the questions earlier. No one actually SAW that McCain was in a sound proof area. He seemed way TOO ready with answers, sometimes answering before the question could be completed. He also failed to stay with the questions being asked, however, this could be attributed to his age.

    The Treaty of Tripoli
"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Musselmen; and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

He should have been pushed on this one. He got off way to easy. The failure of his marriage makes it sound like he just didn't try hard enough when they were having problems. No. He felt entitled to a better wife than the once beautiful woman who had become disfigured in an accident while he had been in the Hanoi Hilton. So he chased women and finally settled on a young, beautiful, rodeo queen with family connections.

When are you guys going to start telling people who the real John McCain is? He's not a the war hero gone legislative maverick!!! He was a maverick to get back at Bush for the dirty campaign tricks used against him in 2000.

McCain has a great deal of humility. The same cannot be said for Obama. he looked like a lawyer up there, cool and non-commital. He seemed to be saying whatever he thought the audience wanted to hear. Sly like a fox. McCain looked and sounded very human and very humble.

McCain's greatest moral failure is his low road campaign against Obama. Let's hope the American people will take this into consideration in November.

I'm glad McCain said his biggest moral failing was his first marriage. People make mistakes and move on and grow from it.

The same wife his mother sued? The same wife that he dumped because of his own selfishness? He should have apologized to her on the air for walking away from her when she needed him most. I find his actions towards her to be very telling of the man.

Mcain abandoned his disfigured wife for another woman (Cindy). He was living an adultrous life with Cindy while his wife was suffering. How can he get away with that? He is just a selfish egocentric man looking for who to take advantage of. I don' t know why no one wants to talk about it. Yet every one has something to say about John Edwards. How is he any better??????

Do we really need all these pro-McCain posts? They're more annoying than when McCain says "my friends."

Too bad he didn't mention the nasty details. Like the car accident his first wife was in and the fact that he dated Cindy for months before telling her he was already married.

He sure did fail his marriage.

I think 50% of married people can understand McCain's answer considering that is the divorce rate in America even among Christians. But the question about abortion being a topic that is above Obama's pay grade proved that Obama is not ready nor equipped to lead this great country.

I was disappointed he didn't go into more detail. Adultery is a sin. No one mentioned that.

Yeah, but what he didn't mention was his infidelity, his cheating on his wife, as the reason behind the failure of his marriage.
