Kaine is one of Obama's most ardent backers.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – With vice presidential speculation reaching fever pitch, Barack Obama's campaign said Tuesday that the Democrat will campaign in central Virginia later this week alongside V.P. contender Gov. Tim Kaine.

Kaine and Obama will host an invitation-only town hall meeting on Thursday in Chesterfield County, a suburb of Richmond. Kaine's sturdy performance in the traditionally conservative Richmond suburbs helped vault him to the governorship in 2005.

Kaine, the former mayor of Richmond, is widely regarded as one of the three top candidates for a slot on the Democratic ticket, along with Delaware Senator Joseph Biden and Indiana Senator Evan Bayh.

Obama has scheduled a campaign event for Saturday at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois, where he kicked off his presidential bid - but the campaign would neither confirm or deny whether the candidate will appear with his running mate.

Obama will also stump in the commonwealth on Wednesday with Virginia’s other two Democratic stars, Senator Jim Webb and former Governor and current Senate candidate Mark Warner, who is scheduled to keynote the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

PLEASE FOLKS, WHAT IS GOING ON WITH ALL OF THESE DEMANDS THAT HILLARY IS PUTTING ON THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, AND THE CONVENTION! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING, THIS IS THE TIME FOR THE PARTY TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT OF BARACK.

HILLAR? WHAT IN THE NAME OF HEAVENS IS WRONG WITH HER?
HAS SHE TOTALLY LOST IT? AND WHAT IS WRONG WITH BARACK'S CAMPAIGN ADVISERS?

WHAT HILLARY IS DOING, TRYING TO GET PEOPLE TO DONATE TO HER FAILED CAMPAIGN DURING THE CONVENTION, IS TOTALLY DISGUSTING AND WRONG! THIS IS BARACK'S TIME!

SOMEBODY, PLEASE, TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WOMAN, BECAUSE TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH, I CANNOT FATHOM THIS WOMAN.

HILLARY CLINTON, THE CONVENTION BELONGS TO THE DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE. THIS IS NOT YOU, IT IS BARACK OBAMA! SO PLEASE STOP DEMANDING CONSESSIONS OF THE OBAMA CAMP, STOP BEGGING THE OBAMA CAMP TO PAY OFF YOUR DEBT, START BEGGING YOUR 18 MILLION STRONG SUPPORTERS, PLEASE?

KERRY   August 20th, 2008 12:36 am ET

If Obama will chose Hillary as his VP, he WILL WIN! McCain's lead is only because people don't know who he's going to pick. He is a smart man, he will pick Hillary!

Jan Il.   August 20th, 2008 12:32 am ET

It's her, if he's half as smart as his supporters think he is.

MikeH   August 20th, 2008 12:26 am ET

I didn't think it would be worth considering, and I don't really like her, but I think Hillary as VP would probably be the best way to bring in the votes necessary for Obama to win, and win he must if we are to avoid becoming a Police State.

S.P.   August 20th, 2008 12:20 am ET

Is there any reason former Sen. Bob Graham of Florida has not been mentioned? Florida offers more electoral votes than Delaware, Virginia, or Indiana; Sen. Graham brings the experience of a former governor and foreign policy expertise as the former chair of the Senate Inelligence Committee; and, like Sen. Obama, he was smart enough to read the intelligence reports to conclude that invading Iraq was unjustified and would be disastrous for us. None of the other names being floated can bring such a winning combination.

Obama / Biden
Obama / Clinton
Obama / Bayh

Obama / Sebelius
Obama / Richardson

all the above combinations will have me and my family's 1000 % support!

We want change and new era!

Clean and alternative energy

No war

Better and universal health care

tough diplomacy not bully(doesn't work anyway)!

Vig   August 20th, 2008 12:01 am ET

If Obama wants to win he has to pick Hillary as his VP. No Hillary – John McCain takes the prize. How is it that Obama's campaign has racked in 400 million dollars to date and still will lose? Because you are not listening to 18 million Americans who wanted and still want Hillary Clinton. It's really foolhardy to deny this glaring reality. Obama will be kicking himself in November.

Ilona Hussein Proud Canadian   August 19th, 2008 11:57 pm ET

FOLKS, just watch the rest of this election. BARACK IS GOING TO KEEP A LOW POSITIVE PROFILE. JOHN McCAIN IS GOING TO CONTINUE RANTING AND RAVING!

BARACK IS GOING TO COME OUT ON TOP, HE IS GOING TO WIN BY A HUGE LANDSLIDE!

AMERICANS, IF YOU LOVE YOUR COUNTRY, AND REALLY WANT TO RESTORE THE RESPECT OF THE REST OF THE WORLD, PLEASE! DON'T VOTE FOR JOHN McCAIN FOR YOUR PRESIDENT, YOUR NINE, TEN, THIRTEEN TRILLION $ IN DEBT TO CHINA WILL DOUBLE.

CHINA WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE OVER AMERICA IN LIEU OF DEBT! DON'T FORGET, BORROWING MONEY (REGARDLESS OF WHO YOU ARE BORROWING FROM) IS BASED ON THE BASIC LOGICAL UNDERSTANDING THAT YOU CAN PAY IT BACK!

PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY, TO MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WHO BORROWED (MORTGAGE) IN ORDER TO BUY THEIR AMERICAN DREAM HOME? WELL THIS IS NO DIFFERENT TO WHAT YOUR CURRENT GOVERNMENT IS DOING.TO AMERICA AND EVENTUALLY, EARLIER, RATHER THAN LATER, CHINA IS GOING TO COLLECT!

GOD BLESS OUR AMERICAN FRIENDS!

DAN   August 19th, 2008 11:55 pm ET

After the saddleback debate Obama's teleprompt 20 writers speech just won't have the same impact. We got to see Obama in his own words and boy, he's not ready to be president.

Belle   August 19th, 2008 11:55 pm ET

Obama never should have called the Pro Life Group Liars on CBN.

They actually proved Obama "refined" his position on late term abortion, or "Born Alive" legislation...you know, the one that had a 98-0 vote in the Senate...(Obama was a state senator at the time)

The New York Post ran a HEADLINE saying Obama is lying about his abortion stance.

At the end of the story, the reporter said either Obama did not know his own voting record, or was so accustomed to shrouding it in dishonesty that it had become second nature to him.

Hotdog   August 19th, 2008 11:53 pm ET

Well, it's not Hillary and her whinning supporters. I'd rather see Obama lose the election than to pick Hillary.

Hillary political career is over. If Obam loses it's because of Hillary. And we will not forget. It's over for the Clintons.

FINALLY, a CNN blog whose comments are not closed!

HEY CNN, SOME OF US LIVE IN PACIFIC TIME!

A COMMENT ON DAVID GERGEN'S OP ED ON THE 360 BLOG:

We did not see the so-called-debate with Pastor Warren, so I can not speak to how the candidates did.

ALL, I know is that WE CAN NOT AFFORD ANOTHER 4 YEARS OF GOP RULE!

PEOPLE NEED TO WAKE UP AND SEE THE DISASTER THE GOP/CHENEY/BUSH/MCCAIN ARE LEAVING!

$10 TRILLION IN NATIONAL DEBT.................. DOUBLED SINCE THE GOP TOOK OVER!

A DEFICIT OF $490 BILLION! UNEMPLOYMENT, TWO WARS......... AND MCCAIN WANTS TO "BOMB............BOMB...........BOMB IRAN!"

DO I THINK MCCAIN LISTENED TO OR KNEW THE QUESTIONS IN ADVANCE............... OH YEAH! HE WAS DELAYED GETTING THERE, SO HIS PEOPLE COULD GIVE HIM AN EDGE.

IF WE ELECT MCCAIN WE WILL GET MORE OF THE SAME. GOD HELP US!

Go Hillary!!!

Who is Kaine you need Hilllary Obama

Kay   August 19th, 2008 11:40 pm ET

Obama lacks foreign policy experience in my opinion. He does not even have that much time logged in politics, period. I really think people need to look at who they are voting for. Do they really know who Obama is? What he stands for? What will be his response to Islamic countries? I will not vote for him. He lost my vote a long time ago.

jerry25   August 19th, 2008 11:29 pm ET

False about Biden.
Biden IS THE GUY.

I just saw Mark Halperin on CNN say don't listen to Biden.
Biden later came back after golf and basically said nervously to reporters he didn't know what was going on.
Seems Biden is forcing himself to "not blow it" by saying too much.

Halperin thinks Biden is 1st choice, Bayh 2nd choice and 3rd choice is someone not mentioned and Halperin is still trying to figure out who that could be.

Halperin doesn't consider Kaine a top choice anymore.

Of course earlier, Sebelius (and Hillary) were accidentally eliminated when Barack say "He" in reference to his VP.

RE, MI   August 19th, 2008 11:14 pm ET

Better choose Hillary as VP if he wants to get elected. She brings excitement, experience to ticket.

kristy   August 19th, 2008 11:13 pm ET

If Obama stands any chance of becoming president, he will need to have Hillary as his running mate.

tedious898   August 19th, 2008 11:11 pm ET

What is America? I'm so tired of the Pumas and fake democrats (really republicans) saying Hillary should be the VP pick. I saw a blog today that made perfect sense. If Hillary had the 18 million plus supporters, where are they when her debt needs to be retired? Could it be many of her supporters were Repubs causing mischief? That would explain why she always had money issues during the primary. Think about it and get back to me.

Joe   August 19th, 2008 11:10 pm ET

Anybody in their right mind knows that if Obama wants to win the election by a landslide that he must choose Hillary for VP. I hope to God that he don't pick her. After seeing and hearing how lame he acted after the Russian invasion...No way I'd trust him on that 3 am phone call!

VA Chris   August 19th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

Kaine is a very good Gov. and he practices what he preaches. He works hard for solutions. There was a bit of a stalemate on the roads and transportation issue here due to gridlock. Kaine maybe not the best to win over voters because he, himself, will receive some of the same charges Obama gets (experience, military and terrorism know-how and ability, etc..) It is a shame too, because Kaine would make a GREAT VP. If Obama wants to win this election, I sadly must say he has got to pick someone else. Somebody to appeal to Republicans who are angry with their party, someone who can appeal to anyone who is tired of high gas and food prices. That is my take on it anyways, I hope I am wrong, Obama picks him and he wins, but then we'd be losing a great Gov. and wouldn't have a good replacement.

The Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   August 19th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

Hey he looks just sweat. wonder if they will meet Larry Craig. You know both Obama and Larry won in Idaho I am quite sure that was a fluke if you know what I mean. Can you imagine Obama carrying Idaho?

But that is one of the states that counted when Dean and the DNC gave the nod to Obama.

I was shocked as I 'm sure you were as well. Don't you know Hillary won the east coast, the west coast and the midwest along with MI and FL. She kicked Obama's butt all over the map.

I ask you,. what more could you ask for in a candidate?

Obama is risky and I don't want to gamble with my country and my values.,

rory ryan   August 19th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

I am leaving my opinion here as you (CNN) close articles subjectively. CNN you really do not report objecively. If you did you would lose the mindless types that react to your simple psychology you call reporting. How do you get your poll results. And God forbid, the numbers were not close you would lose viewership.THe crawley article on the Rick Waren interview on your blogs was tilted toward McCain as you needed to bring the polls closer. How do you get your numbers? 1 million 2 million surveyed. Really now, who do want to win? Manipulate your articles so as to skew the vote in the direction that brings you ratings. A true disservice to Americans.

Critical View   August 19th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Don't be stupid! You need Hillary to win Ohio and the presidency.

GrannyRyan53   August 19th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Welcome aboard Vice President Kaine! He is an excellent choice. He's young and smart and not a part of Old Washington. Yeah! We are about to turn the page y'all!

Obama/Kaine 08

Barbara Brown   August 19th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

I am a Obama supporter i dont care what any poll says. CNN has to have rateings so I dont expect any more from them. Some of their anouncers has prejudice written all over their faces. One Lou Dobbs mainely. He is a total prejudice biggot, against spanish and blacks. Obama has the deck stacked against him from the day he decided to run for president.,and we all know why. The color of his skin!! Sad to say but true. He will prevail however. I have no doubt. All the Lou Dobbs in the world can't prevent it.

Marge Hibbing Mn   August 19th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Since the very day obama squeaked in to the nomination thru his manipulation of the caucus those who KNOW have said over and over. The DNC always snatches defeat out of a certain victory. And in obama's case that is exactly what they have done. I hate to see a republican win but WE TOLD YOU SO WHEN THE CABLE TV GOOD OLD BOYS, AND THE BLOGGERS SLURRED AND FLAMED AND LIED AND HAD TO DRAG UP 30 YEAR OLD INCIDENTS about Hillary , we told you obama wouldn't win he is all flash in the pan.

DAISY FROM NY   August 19th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

why every person who is name as potential vp are declining. It is a sign that being Obama running mate could be a hot potato nobody wants to hold...

I miss Hillary   August 19th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Mark Warner would be a much better VP choice than Kaine. I will be disappointed if he picks Kaine.

Jim   August 19th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Kaine who?

jeanette   August 19th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Kaine is a great guy – he would be excellent!
BUT, Jim Webb will be the choice – wait and see.

Nancy, Washington, DC   August 19th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Kaine is the least qualified candidate on Obama's short list. Kind of works–the blind leading the blind.... over the abyss.

NObama!

jeanette   August 19th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Jim Webb is going to be the VP choice.
Anyway, polls are not always right – too many variables.
Also, does anyone find it strange that just before the election, when democrats are polling through the roof and the white house is within reach, that all of a sudden, out of nowhere, we're suddenly getting ready to possibly invade Russia??? Would the Bush Administration go so far as to back a Russian invasion of Georgia to get the American public back into war mode????
Makes one ponder the possibilities.
Anyway, Jim Webb is the man – wait and see. ;)

Ron   August 19th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

who the heck will it be...i can't see how Kaine or Bayh helps Obama on foreign policy...if it isn't Biden i don't know what to think!!

well well now   August 19th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I've only read the first link so far, and already have a comment. The author attempts to portray McCain's actions in Vietnam as somehow heroic. They weren't. According to McCain's own words in his autobiography FAITH OF MY FATHERS - within four days of being captive, he offered and then gave valuable and valid military information to his captors in return for medical treatment he wanted but which other POWs in his position didn't get. I have seen reports (one from a man who was the chief Republican investigator for the 1992 committee on POWs on which McCain sat) which indicates that McCain was the "star" of upwards of 30 propaganda broadcasts for his captors. I have seen reports from men who were Senior Ranking Officers at the prison camp in which McCain was purportedly incarcerated who said that, at a time when McCain claimed he was tortured, no torture was happening at that camp (they said they couldn't comment directly about McCain, since no POWs were present when one of their number was being questioned, but they spoke generally about the camp's activities and nature).

I heard Kaine on the radio a few days ago. He would make an excellent choice. He answered tough questions with great responses. He's quick on his feet, even with the "gotcha" type questions that the mainstream media like to throw at politicians. Furthermore, he showed that he wasn't afraid to take on that weasel Rove. He'd make an excellent VP.

Sounds like something he would do, then he would tell his/her supporters to unite under the joint ticket. This way he would get more votes. Maybe people will start seeing the light and see through these frauds. BTW- wasn't it H. Clinton that said he wouldn't make a good leader. LOL

McCain '08

Kaine would be a terrible choice for VP.

Brandy, NJ   August 19th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

The funny thing is that his lead was suppose to be smaller days after the primary season ended because of HC supporters.

As the months go by his lead is suppose to increase as those supporters join the band wagon but ...

It looks like his lead continues to get smaller and smaller and smaller ... I think he not only is not getting the HC supporters but every day he changes his position on important issues ... I think his own supporters are starting to see through him.

If he wants to win ... I think HC is his only choice. Like it or not – that's the way it is.

susie   August 19th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Town meetings, invitation-only, Obama always acts like he's to good for the general public. Dean, Kennedy, Kerry, and Pelosi really screwed up by wanting Obama. Those four should have allowed the people to pick the candidate.

Obama is a joke, he has no principles, he'll say anything to get people to vote for him. Maybe that's why more people are seeing through him now. Ian in Seattle, Washington   August 19th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Scott L,

No. If an illegal immigrant got a kidney instead of me I'd still have my soul intact and those of us with souls understand a dying human being is a dying human being. I would not care if that person was an American citizen, an American immigrant, an illegal immigrant, or some John Doe who washed up on shore. A human being is a human being and organ donor recipients are chosen based on need and their standing on the donor list. It's uncaring people like you that suck the humanity out American society. Stop your hate mongering and go help people who don't have the resources to help themselves. It would open your eyes.

Governor Kaine needs to take better care of Virginia, before suggesting he is VP worthy.

We're on the cusp of a hugh fiscal shortfall, which the governor's economists are keeping quiet until AFTER the election, hoping to help turn the state blue. Virginians, wake up.

Come home, Governor Kaine. Do the job you were elected too!

chuck   August 19th, 2008 9:31 pm ET

Obama has to pick Kaine. He is the newly elected Governor of Virginia. Of all of the names mentioned he is the only one with less experience than Obama.

It's Kaine or some school board member from Ohio.

California Voter   August 19th, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Kaine just looks scary to me and what's more his resume is even thinner than Obama's. Not the ticket I would want to run this country. And as for Biden (he's about as arrogant as Obama), and Bayh seems like a good guy, but again light on experience (sorry but I think you've got to have experience to make good judgments).

Obama/Clinton or NOObama . . . .

That latest poll of polls is drivel.....

Look at how the margins have changed in the last two months:

Obama's lead was 5, then 2, then 3, then 1, then2, then 4,5,4,5,6,8,7,5,6,8,4,6,3,5,5,3,5,5,6, and now back to 3....

What's it prove?
We are all watching the Olympics and enjoying the summertime of course:):)

Now, we are ready to elect another senile guy, rather than a presidential scholar, to the presidency!!!

The though of the VP being someone other than Biden

Obama needs Joseph Biden JR. He even looks the part

Surely you're not now trying to say you're one of his supporters?!!! So, if he does pick Hillary, I JUST KNOW THAT YOU WON'T BE SUPPORTING THAT TICKET, NOT AFTER ALL THE HATE YOU'VE SPREAD AROUND ON THESE BLOGS ABOUT HIM.

Tim Kaine would be an excellent choice for Obama! Their policies are so much alike. Together they can expand government social programs and spending until our country is *cough* "great"!

VP candidate: the only sure win is the GAL who has been taking the punches since the early 1990s.

The biggest mistake of the DNC this primary is their failure to recognize how deeply respected and loved the Clintons are, by those who have been observing for quite some time.

The legacy will haunt them come November, if Hillary is not running beside him, because she has proven over the years to many of us that She is ALL that!

Obama will do anything to win and if he thinks he is going to lose he will pick Clinton. He doesn't deserve to win. He reminds me of Bush he lost all the debates you could tell he didn't have the experience and people voted for him anyway and now they want to do it again. Unbelieveable!

He is the cheater and, late and follower of Obama. If he can not be on time how he will be running the country at 3 am with lies and cheating go home McBush we do not want you. Just say your policy for once instead of talking about Obama. You cheated on your wife how we can believe you.

I will say it again, no Hillary NO VOTE – plus the 18 million! Go ahead CNN keep saying that Hillary has to much baggage since she is married to Bill Clinton! Mark my word you will lose November especially after Saturday performance.

Matt, PA   August 19th, 2008 8:55 pm ET

If he picks Kaine I will seriously sit this one out. A pro-lifer like Kaine will rightfully demoralize Hillary supporters as well.

Mike   August 19th, 2008 8:55 pm ET

No matter who his VP selection is, he's going to get crushed in November. People are starting to realize this guy is less about "change" and more about "socialism". Just look at his performance in the Senate: the most liberal voting record and absolutely no qualifications to be commander-in-chief. 'Nuff said.

KRSlim   August 19th, 2008 8:52 pm ET

A perfect selection for Obama. Barack will pick Kaine, and the American electorate will pick McCain.

Paul Dobro   August 19th, 2008 8:51 pm ET

More misleading titles from CNN. How is still leading in the polls the bad sign for Obama?

Why is so much focus on polls when the primaries proved the polls are soo far off from the truth?

And we think the media is biased to Obama?

NOT!

Obama crowd, keep working in your efforts and we will sweep to the WH.

Hey media, why not count the number of campaign offices per state for each canidate? Why not tell everyone what will happen with McCain after the convention when he is limited spending due to accepting public financing? Hey, where is the story about Cindy McCain's half sister and they way Cindy treats her blood relitives?

BOB   August 19th, 2008 8:51 pm ET

The only way Obama can Win is with HILLARY, but it won't happen. All they have to do is ask Obama who was Frank D. Marshal,[ a true answer, my mentor. He was a COMI check it out if you want to find the truth of his background cnn.

Obama is stupid if he picks Kaine. He will not win VA period. Just liek Al gore lost his home state. He would be better off picking Bayh. He would be a much better pick. Of course either way McCain will win it unless McCain does something stupid like pick a Pro Choicer to be his running mate.

josh   August 19th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

Obama's lead over McCain in polls is dwindling and he knows it. After hearing Obama's speech on "sharing the wealth" I realized Obama will probably do more harm than good to America. America needs to keep its sovereighnity. I know Obama cares about his homeland Africa, but how much can American people "share the wealth" with the country that just doesn't seem to function no matter how much of our billions of dollars we throw away at them. Don't we have anough people in poverty here in America to "share the wealth" with. And what wealth are we talking about if we're facing this huge budget deficit? Obama is not too good at economics, and economics should be today's number one issue regarding choosing a president. And talk about Obama's plan to send each family a thousand dollars to help with fuel costs instead of tackling this issue at the root.

Terry,Va   August 19th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

Kaine would be a good choice for him. We would have dumb and dumber in the "white house".

tony   August 19th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

Wow-He must have an inferiority complex-
To even think of someone with less experience than he DOMES the ticket-
But even if he takes someone with a lot of experience ( Biden )
then he just contradicts himself about the same old politics-
It's so clear that the only people that support him are the young - whomn don't even vote and women because he's "in vogue"–
Everyone with any character votes McCain–
Did you see him answer-When does life begin ?
He answers-THats above his pay grade was his response-so is the Presidency Mr. Obama-

Kenya   August 19th, 2008 8:44 pm ET

I'll have to do my research on Kaine. The way I look at it the traditional ways have lead the country to all kinds of complications, so I'm sure Obama can bring fresh ideas that will help this country succeed. One would be a fool to take on as much responsibility without having a plan in place and I think Obama has done his research. Just having the name as a president doesn't mean nothing if you can't back it up. I think alot of presidents have taken on this responsibility just to have the luxury of going down in history because they were good marketers. Yea..that's what it is. When one isn't flashy and well known no one trusts that they have a plan. Well, sit back and enjoy!
Another thought for all you fellow Christians. No man, land, or president can overcome what God said will happen in the last days. Please remember that. Have a good one!
GO OBAMA!! I LOVE YOU IN ALABAMA!

Hillary or McCain   August 19th, 2008 8:43 pm ET

So what...who cares. This guy probably couldn't even help him win VA-if he knows whats good for him he will pick Hillary even though I would still be so disappointed. For her to take 2nd place to this guy who knows absolutely nothing...it's disgraceful...I hope she says no! BTY, he proved just how stupid he is Sat at the Rick Warren forum...when does human life begin, "that's above my paygrade!!!" Only Hillary as veep would give Obama the only chance of winning in November. All the remaining choices are re-heats of yesterday. So much for change.

TonyinKentucky   August 19th, 2008 8:38 pm ET

I'll take an old drunk with a magic 8 Ball over any Republican with the exception of Ron Paul.

Republicans are destroying our nation and are purposefully bankrupting our government so that all control can be ceded to the corporations.

Just remember my fellow Americans, if you go into the both and vote for McCain you have signed off on the end of the land of the free and the home of the brave and the beginning of "A Brave New World" Huxley style.

Trasa, Texas   August 19th, 2008 8:36 pm ET

For those who keep saying Clinton better be VP or your voting McCain, looks like you'll be voting McCain cause she won't be on the ticket. Besides, I don't see Hillary taking the backside to Obama, even if the positions does have the VP doing more, she be best suited elsewhere.

Bigmarty55   August 19th, 2008 8:32 pm ET

Folks: Yahoo is reporting that Ralph Nader thinks the Dem Veep will be Hillary. In one sense, it's "dream" ticket-unify the party, get all of those Hillary votes, etc, etc. In another sense, though, it ought to be every Democrats worst nightmare. In an election year, where all the Dems had to do to get elected was nominate a mainstream, white, male candidate whose platform could have been simply, "I'm not George Bush, and I am a Democrat", they fool around with a strident, ego-maniacal, me first, carpet-bagging woman, and a black male, with no experience and an arguably questionable background. Makes ZERO sense.

Nader is utterly wrong, not because he has anything but his own ego and self-interest at heart, but because Hillary wants McCain to win! Why? Because she figures that he's a one term deal, and that she goes in for 8 years, four years hence. She views Obama as a politically correct flash in the pan. You heard it here first! I'm right (in more ways than one).

OBAMA'S VP CHOICE DOES NOT APPEAR TO MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO AMERICAN VOTERS , ANY OF HIS SHORT LIST
CANDIDATES : SEBELLIUS, EVAN BAYH KAINE, BIDEN DO NOT HAVE THE VOTES TO HELP HIM. THE STATES THAT DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE WERE WON BY HILLARY..AND SHE HAS NOT EVEN BEEN MENTIONED LATELY AS A POSSIBLE VP CHOICE. AFTER THE RICK WARREN CIVIL FORUM : OBAMA WAS CLEARLY THE LOSER. WHAT'S MORE OBAMA SEEMS TO BE AT A LOSS WITHOUT
A TELEPROMPTER WHEN HE IS SPEAKING. THAT IS WHY HE SHIED AWAY FROM TOWN HALL FORUMS AND DEBATES AND MORE DEBATES.. HE WILL NOT DEBATE MCCAIN MORE THAN ONCE!!!!

Patrick   August 19th, 2008 8:32 pm ET

Senator Obama needs to be truly fair and choose the best person for the job for his VP – Hillary Clinton. So many of his supporters truly think that all of us who do support Hillary are going to fall into line and vote for him. If he does not choose Hillary and attempt to unify the fractured democratic party and let our voices be heard as well – then I believe he's all about himself and not about the party. I will choose to place my voice and my vote elsewhere and not on the Obama ticket unless Hillary is there as well.

Bulldog   August 19th, 2008 8:31 pm ET

Cindy McCain has consistently stated that she was "the only child" but today I heard on NPR that in fact she has a sister from the same father who is pissed that Cindy is lying to the media. Her sister, Kathy, is content that her and Cindy's dad gave Cindy the family business and only gave her $10,000 in his will, but she is pissed that Cindy continually lies to the media about being an only child.

There should be no surprise. The American voters are not going to vote for a (half) black man. No how...no way!!!
They will rationalize and debate but when the chips are down the bare bare fact is that they will not vote for Obama.
Say hello to your new President ... John McBush.

Grandma   August 19th, 2008 8:30 pm ET

McBush is just another Bush's continuation of this current failed policy. He is good at cheating and fiip flopping, smear and fear. That's all they know. Instead of helping the American people how to uplift the failed administration's policy, he wanted to continue with the war in Iraq for 100 years. Obama 2008

randy   August 19th, 2008 8:29 pm ET

Please pick him he has ran our state into a $2 billion deficit in a very short time. He will hurt Obama in Va and nationally. Two little lawyers have no shot against Romney on the economy. He would not even hire these two to work for his investment firm.

Elizabeth   August 19th, 2008 8:28 pm ET

Leave it up to Conservative CNN to say "Bad News for Obama", painting a negative picture with negative undertones...the reality is that the polls were showing that McCain cut into Obama's lead...last week...so what is new? What is the News? The fact of the matter is that I expect it to be an uphill battle...since may of the prior voters for Bush are still living with the fear that Bush nurtured over the last 8 years, fear that feeds on bigotry and superficiality, and narrow-minded thinking. With the publication of another pack of "swift-boat" lies and McCain's flippant response to the seriousness of this reminds me that the so-called "Christian" republicans rely on lies to get elected and that McCain does not have the depth to comprehend the fact that bigoted lies in the book help to destroy democray...they certainly fed into the lies that the Brown Shirts propogated and fed the people of Germany in WWII...lies that practicaly destroyed the Jews. While we are not there yet, it is frightening to see so many people fall for the lies propogated by the swift-boaters, lies that can lead many to vote for "sameness"...years of the same agenda as Bush.

Bulldog   August 19th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

It will be Biden. Biden is great attack dog and will tear McCain and his VP pick apart and spit them out. That is what Obama needs right now since McCain has chosen to use his gutter politics.

Marc in Arlington   August 19th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

Kaine is a big joke here in Virginia. He pushed the law through that doubled traffic tickets for VA drivers (thank goodness it was overturned). He failed to get the metro out to Dulles. He pretty much just spends his time arguing with the Virginia House of Delegates and not getting anything done. Aside from his loyalty to Obama, not sure why this guy would be a good pick. He has no experience or accomplishments. I guess they make a good match.

I wonder who is going to answer the 3:00 am call?!!!

SAT   August 19th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

I'm a BO supporter. However, I don't think Kaine is a good pick. BO needs a more seasoned person as his running mate like Joe Biden or the guy from Texas.

Since the primaries, I've been turned off by the Clintons. Their sense of entitlement has really gone overboard. I'd like them to go away already. But I've started to wonder if BO shouldn't put her on the ticket as VP. The goal is to win.

I've seen the latest poll numbers. Is there any truth to them? I don't know of anyone personally who has been contacted. I've never been called.

There seems to be such a stark contrast between the poll numbers and BO's ability to fundraise. He is raising record amounts of money and has recently signed up his 2 millionth person. And the crowds that gather when he comes to town are always large numbers. When he came here to southern VA, people lined up for hours ahead of time just to get a good seat. Folks were taking off work, leaving early, etc just to hear him speak in person. All of the tickets have accounted for at the outside venue in Denver when he gives his acceptance speech. Something doesn't add up.

Dan   August 19th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

Tim Kaine is another joker like Obama. No experience whatsoever and no judgement. Barack has no judgment because he lacks experience.
No wonder the polls show that John McCain is gaining momentum. Thank God that American people can trust in John McCain's experience and judgment. I do not know what CNN and the liberal media has to say about it.

gotcha   August 19th, 2008 8:09 pm ET

Obama's loss couldnt happen to a more deserving person. Thank goodness, American for the most part are very intelligent and cant be fooled with this stupid claim to change. Senator McCain is very intelligent with concise answers at the forum sat. night , and obama stuttered and um and ah, cant speak without a propmter. Go back to Chicago. Obama, you are not wanted.

Maritza   August 19th, 2008 8:09 pm ET

With the recent revalation in their face that Obama is not qualified to lead, voters are starting to take note of the obvious , he can't handle the unimprovised questions in anyway with any skill insight or real relevant knowledge that are needed to run this counrty. Pity.. McCain is not only qualified by way of experience but he was able to demonstate that he has deep moral convictions, and learned a great deal about forgivness from being a POW, it's a reflection of his convictions, he was strong , relevant , confident and gave answers that were consice and detailed, he gave examples of solutions, he left Obama in the dust, and now Obama has suffered in loss of points, Can you weasel out of the abortion question? guess not. "It's above my pay grade?" what the hell does that mean?? .... Maybe running the country is above his pay grade as well.
