(CNN) – Barack Obama's campaign confirms that the Illinois senator will hold an event in his home state Saturday, kicking off the "roll into the convention" - but would not confirm or deny reports that he might be joined on stage by a running mate.

The event will be held in the Old State Capitol in Springfield - where Obama first launched his presidential bid a year and a half ago.

I wonder if any of his political rivals from Chicago have been invited who he shafted 8 years ago with his dirty tricks stunt to get into power.

This is America Puma, it's not too late to join the party. We know you hate Barack, but were extending an olive branch. If you don't take it, it's on you. Regardless, we're going to have a great convention.

    Don't worry – be happy!
Quit the VP speculation! The media hype is driving some of these posters crazy to the point where I fear for their cardio health.
I hope there will be as much hoopla when the Republican Convention kicks off. All I keep reading about is who is not coming.

Obama is ready! He looks nice! He's got his own cool seal! He's got his own latin phrase! He's got HUNDREDS of advisors to tell him what to think and say! The germans love him! What more does he need? Shouldn't he really be the Secretary-General of the U.N.?

Did you see how the U.S. female hurdler lost in her race and everyone thought she would be the winner. Obama can still lose. He has not crossed that last hurdle yet so don't be too sure that he is going to win. Hillary Clinton for president in November.

It is great for once to have a president of the people. Grandpa McCain has taken millions from oil companies and several lobbiysts no wonder he has fired so many till he is compleately out of people to run his campaign. I cant imagine having a war monger in white house after Bush for even a week. Go OBAMA it is urs to take.

I'm getting so excited for the announcement.

The convention is going to be great! I'm heading to Denver on Saturday to work the week as a volunteer at this historic event. I can't wait to take in the whole experience. I'll check out what's going on during the day and be ready for my 5-9 p.m. shift each evening. I haven't been this excited about a candidate since Kennedy when I was just a teenager.
