Biden said Tuesday he has 'no idea' if he's Obama's pick.

(CNN) – Pressed on a new wave of rumors that he could be the Democratic vice presidential candidate, Sen. Joe Biden said late Tuesday that he has “no idea.”

“I promise you I don’t know anything. I have no idea,” he told reporters in Wilmington, Delaware.

The long-time senator sidestepped a question about whether or not he thought he was still under consideration.

“I have no idea. You guys know as well as I do,” he said.

Earlier Tuesday, Biden told reporters camped outside the gates of his Delaware home that he isn’t “the guy.”

“You got better things to do,  guys, I’m not the guy,” Biden said.

Asked where he would be on Saturday - when Barack Obama is reportedly scheduled to hold a campaign event in Springfield, Illinois,  that may feature his new running mate – Biden replied, “Here,” pointing to his driveway.

Biden’s VP stock has risen in recent days following a visit to the Republic of Georgia that spotlighted his national security and foreign policy credentials – a policy area where Obama’s resume is relatively thin.

The Obama camp has kept the details on both the timing and selection of the presumptive Democratic nominee’s running mate under wraps. Biden is reportedly on a shortlist for the spot, along with Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh and Virginia Governor Tim Kaine. Obama will visit Virginia on Wednesday and Thursday before returning home to Illinois, where a Saturday event in Springfield – where he first kicked off his presidential run – will mark the official start of his “roll into the convention,” which will include a tour of battleground states.

Well, I thought it was going to be Biden. I think Kaine is the wrong choice-way too new. I like Bayh but I have not seen any excitement there......so, is it going to be Hillary?

The Democrat's? Shame! They were so "BIG"! But I am afraid "Cooking the Book's"... Put them into Infinity... They have no Leader: Just a Mess!!!!

Soldier 4 OBAMA   August 19th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

This prove the MSM including CNN, like their polling data is not in the loop of what is going on in the country. To believe that this election is close is to defy reality on the ground. OBAMA will beat McCain by 350 electoral votes and with a plurality of 55% of the popularity votes. It is factual!

They're carrying on this charade because Hillary's the VP!

I hope Obama goes with Richardson. He would help with foreign policy and experience credentials, the Latino vote, and all the states surrounding New Mexico that Obama wants to put into play. There is also a long range strategy where Richardson fits in nicely, if the VP is not a senator then the dems don't have to worry about fighting for a senate seat that obama will need to push through his agenda. Change is a comin!

Mike   August 19th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

Yes! I hope it's Tim Kaine.

Sacto Joe   August 19th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

If he really isn't "the guy" (or gal), then that's too bad. I like his straight-forward way of talking. On the other hand, that keeps open the possibility of Governor Richardson, who I personally would like to see get the nod.

Devon Spencer   August 19th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

He wouldn't say if he was the guy or not unless Obama would announce it publicly.

Jackie   August 19th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

We may have to take him at his word. We'll know soon enough, so stop speculating everyone.

Will, NJ   August 19th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

I still think he should be. It'd be like Kennedy/Johnson again.

Clinton better be on the ticket or I am voting McCain.

Go on Biden.... tell the truth! ha! ha!

CJ   August 19th, 2008 7:31 pm ET

Yeah, this is the best news I've heard re. the potential VP choice this week! Biden might make a good Secretary of State or Defense but not a good choice for Veep.

Scott L   August 19th, 2008 7:29 pm ET

Honestly, it looks more and more like it is Clinton. If it is not Clinton, her supporters will lock into their minds that they will vote for anyone but Barack Hussein Obama November 4th. And Obama will wake up with a hang over on the 5th and realize what a mistake he made.

PUMA   August 19th, 2008 7:22 pm ET

Must of seen the polls.... backing away from the moron as fast as he can.... ROFLMAO
