Obama's campaign is out with a tough new campaign ad featuring Jack Abramoff.

(CNN) - Barack Obama's campaign is linking John McCain to the infamous Jack Abramoff scandal that ended several Republicans' political careers three years ago in a new campaign ad hitting Georgia airwaves Wednesday.

The 30-second spot is the Obama campaign’s second negative ad in the past 24 hours. It attacks the Arizona senator for his association with former Christian Coalition head Ralph Reed, one of the Republicans implicated in the scandal.

The ad also seems to suggest McCain didn't call Reed to testify before a Senate panel he chaired in return for political favors.

“When the Senate investigated, the senator in charge never even called Reed to testify….And that senator? John McCain. And who’s now raising money for McCain’s campaign? Ralph Reed," the ad's narrator says. "For 26 years in Washington, John McCain’s played the same old games. We just can’t afford more of the same.”

The TV spot sparked a sharp rebuke from McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers, who called it "ridiculous," and noted Obama's connection to Bill Ayers, the current University of Chicago professor and one-time leader of the militant group "Weather Undeground."

“If Barack Obama wants to have a discussion about truly questionable associations, let’s start with his relationship with the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, at whose home Obama’s political career was reportedly launched," Rogers said. "Mr. Ayers was a leader of the Weather Underground, a terrorist group responsible for countless bombings against targets including the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon and numerous police stations, courthouses and banks."

Reed, who lost a bid in 2006 for lieutenant governor of Georgia, had promoted a McCain fundraiser last week in the Atlanta area that netted the presumptive Republican nominee $1.75 million in campaign cash. Though Reed did not attend the event (after intense Democratic criticisms), he circulated "special invitations" to several Republicans in the Atlanta area seeking donations.

That prompted several watchdog groups to call on McCain to cancel the event - although his campaign noted the fundraiser was sponsored by the Republican National Committee, not Reed.

McCain is dirty. He has taken money, sweet heart land deals, and vacations, plane rides and a variety of other perks from Charles Keating. McCain is an immoral philanderer. He stole Carol McCain from another navy man, cheated on her throughout their marriage both before the Nam and especially after when she wasn't so pretty. McCain is a failure, he has only one accomplishment to sell to America and the ultimate performance evaluation for naval aviators is being shot down – read fail!. McCain is the political spawn of a liar. Duke Tully was the publisher of the Arizona Republic, and the person who shaped McCain's war hero persona he too was a hero in his eyes, he bragged about all his heroic exploits in Korea and all the medals he's earned. Newsflash-he was never in the military.
McCain has never earned or worked or done a thing on his own in his life that someones daddy, his or Cindy's got for him.

Here goes a man who want to become future president do not know how many houses he own. wow….that is not a shocker, most people failed to realize that Mccain is just another rich man who do not care about your suffering.

" America people should go get second job to pay their mortgage, there will be no money for them"
That meant their housing forclosure issues is not cause by mortgage lender, it is cause by ordinary people who were deceived into getting houses.
Obama campaign are not doing a good job pointing out McCaflip flipper mispeak or wrong tactice.
There are lots of tools for the Obama campaigns to use but they have failed to utilize them.

Rob   August 21st, 2008 11:26 am ET

Obama is criticized when he doesn't respond and if he does, if only the scrutiny the media puts on Obama was focused on McCain it would be over. The Obama 'negative' adds are factual and not lies and stuff completely made up like the repugs use. There is a big difference people.

Bob Indianapolis, IN   August 21st, 2008 11:24 am ET

Anyone who believes John McSame would do a better job of the economy than Obama is either (a) wealthy (b) stupid or (c) living in a parallel universe...

Exactly how much more war do you think this country can take? Are endless tax cuts for the rich in the best interest of the country? How much more outsourcing of jobs will there be until nothing is left of America except a big garage sale?

Making people aware of the truth about John McCain is a good thing.

The truth makes you free, (John McShame is bound up) according to John McCain who stated at Saddleback that he would call upon Sen Lewis, a person who is a colleague in the Senate, but yet they don't conversate. How hyprocitial could he be, first of all in the front of God and a worldwide audience.

Also, why would you go to the gates of hell, when the Word of God says the "The gates of hell will not prevail" Seems to me that John McCain wants to do some hot and flaming traveling.

Of course we alreday heard about Tony Rezko and Ayers in the Primary and it just doesn;t work and won't be effective now. John McCain can play out of the Clintons playbook, but you can't teach an old dog new tricks!

matmagandi   August 21st, 2008 11:09 am ET

we all know worst of McCain and in this campaign we have witnessed worst of McCain in his negative ads. he has been vicious like a pit bull. he hardly discussed any issue , only raved all along his false superior qualification in foreign policy and over all qualification to be the president of the USA and false negatives about Mr.Obama trying to portray him disqualified for the office. But the reality is if one puts side by side there is no contest ( Obama wins in all counts).

when someone wants to take the country into war for personal reason or for no reason or falsifying reasons or at the drop of a hat sending unthoughtful way hundreds of thousands of American young men and women crippling many of them for rest of their lives, spending billions of dollars of tax payers money ( eventually of course these money finding their way to the deep pockets of the politicians and their big business friends who manages the business side of the war ) thousands of young people dying fighting such war and John McCain who himself was captured and tortured by enemy force once in such a war now wants to follow the same policy presenting his war experience as the most qualifying degree for foreign policy expert , once wanted to continue a 100 yr war in Iraq, still venting out war cry for a cold war from time to time is not on our, the COMMON peoples
side. we the common people , at least understand this much.

how he can be that reckless when he has so much of baggages, personal and political , be so negative. once when i did not know much about him , i admired him as a hero , respected him as a ver honest, straight shooter politician man . except for still I admire him as a hero , rest of the feeling vanished. s who
in contrast all along Obama remained so decent and civil carrying positive message and hopes for the common folks like us . but this degree of nicety and civility may make the him loose the race and hopes and dreams of so many common , decent , fair minded , non prejudiced, educated , hard working , god fearing Americans for a more prosperous , peaceful future will vanish (talking about vanishing dreams ). perhaps now Obama cannot afford to be that nice and continue business as usual and it is about time time tell all the truth.
be truthfully negative. only the truth.

Why has no one mentioned McCain's lying about a cross on the ground as it was clearly stolen from a book and can be easily proven. CNN can do this in a New York second but they won't because they are biased against Obama.

ISN'T JOHN MCSAME THE SAME PERSON WHO SAID HE WOULD NOT TOLERATE NEGATIVITY IN HIS CAMPAIGN. OBAMA HAS SAID IT TOO BUT WHEN YOU KEEP GETTING ATTACKED YOU CAN'T STAND THERE AND NOT DO ANYTHING. TO VOTE FOR MCCAIN WILL BE VOTING FOR THE SAME OLD POLITICS AS USUAL – LITERALLY. MCCAIN IS TOO OLD SCHOOL AND WILL NEVER GET THE BLACK OR HISPANIC VOTE AND HE NEEDS THOSE RACE GROUPS TO WIN AND SINCE HE VOTED AGAINST MAKING MLK A FEDERAL HOLIDAY, HIS CHANGES ARE VERY SLIM.

Thank God!!! The Republicans ARE NOT IN CANADA

CNN Great show on “Obama and McCain Revealed”
Better than any debate.
You can see now why unionist and the average person supports Obama and big business supports McCain.
No question about it!! This a battle between the “people and money”

McCain and the Repubs have a new version of

“for the people by the people”

republican code for

“for the Rich by the Republicans”

I hate to tell you this but your government is a bit corrupt and only serves "party" self interest – so much for true democracy…

Average people in America should be more selfish and demand more of their government. I don’t know if Obama can change it – BUT – I certainly wouldn’t be voting Republican given their track record.

What happened to his promise to run a different campaign??? Is the pot calling the kettle black—REZKO!!!! Politics as usual. This 32 year old, college educated Democrat still hopes Hillary's name will be put in nomination at the DNC

--------–

You PUMAs should be really careful on how you throw stones.

"As Hillary Clinton continues to insist that she has "no relationship" with shady indicted real estate investor Tony Rezko, the facts seem to indicate otherwise.

According to records, Rezko donated $15,000 to the Democratic National Committee in March 2000. At the time, the committee was helmed by longtime Clinton ally Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, who endorsed Hillary Clinton on Wednesday. While it's possible that Rendell and the Clintons discussed neither the donation nor the donor, it's not likely."

Missmn   August 21st, 2008 11:03 am ET

For all of you out there who are throwing whatever you can to see if it sticks regarding Senator Obama – don't you think that if there was anything really devestating to him, we'd have already heard it? I mean really, Hillary Clinton WANTED to be president and would have done anything she could have to make that happen, but she couldn't because there was nothing to find.

For all of you out there calling Senator Obama a liar, please provide links or citations because just saying something doesn't make it so.

Senator McCain's record is there and clear. His campaign is being run by paid lobbyists who are being paid as lobbyists even as they run his campaign. This is not just a conflict of interest, it is blatently unethical.

Jaxon   August 21st, 2008 11:01 am ET

I am so sick of this campaign. I am also tired of the negative ads. I see somebody wrote that Americans love the negative stuff. Thats whats wrong with this country because we elect people who are "negative" and don't care about the needs of the American people. It's like a game show that keeps going onand on. I pray that this country can come together and unite as a strong nation UNDER GOD!

Beverly, NYC   August 21st, 2008 11:00 am ET

No more Mr. nice guy. Swift boat the Maverick with the truth. You have 26 years of his word and voting to get him on. We have already had 7 years of an underachieving dunce, we don't need another. Even if McCain is trying to pull a fast one by floating the one term idea. One term would make him even more dangerous, once in he has nothing to lose and the cowards in congress won't impeach or sanction him.

Everytime McCain opens his mouth he puts his foot in. Now he agrees with a draft to follow Osama to the gates of hell. Guess whose children will be first ? So go ahead America play with your children's and grandchildren's future. Canada is returning deserters, so that won't be an option.

Troy   August 21st, 2008 10:59 am ET

I keep wanting to believe in McCain, but then this stuff comes up and I feel like I'm being duped again by the same jerks who have run this country into the ground for the last eight years.

And that business about him not knowing how many homes he owns. Come on, who doesn't know how many homes he has? If he really is that out of touch with his own finances, there's no way I can trust him with America's.

Jay   August 21st, 2008 10:59 am ET

Yes, Obama should go there, if it going to get some democrats in trouble so be it. Enough of these rich old people in Washington. They should let the younger generation take over the leadership of this nation, after all it's our time lead. These old focks both democrats and republicans should go home a play with their great grand children and leave this nation to us

MGJams   August 21st, 2008 10:59 am ET

Well Nya, sorry to say but we have to vote for someone. Obama talks the straightest of the two. If you follow politics then you know that the Republican Party has used lies and manipulation and money to control America for nearly 30 years. When it comes to supporting American institutions you can't support John McCain! He thinks Social Security is an outrage, he believes that war is the way of the world and should always be threatened. He believes that tax cuts for altra rich is a worthy cause. So Nya, if we don't compare their faults and positives then what do we do? Just listen to the squak box polititions and corporate heads that tell halftruths all day , over and over on Cable? Do you realize that you pay for cable and because of that, they can lie their heads off, legally, because you pay for it! Want to help our country,, cancelle Cable TV and watch what happens. I have called for a boycot of cable tv for about10 years now. All Cable TV. Since there is little to no regulation of online media news shows. You pay for the lies and that is the way they get away with the propaganda. Think about it!
Because you pay for it!

Well what a surprise, the big O going negative again.

In his previous elections that he won, rather than discussing issues he got rid of signatures that weren't in cursive writing, and then in another he made sure private divorce papers were opened.

I really feel sorry for you who believe that he is actually different. He is not. This is good old fashioned Chicago politics.

I am simply not voting for President this year, for the first time in the 31 yrs I have been eligible to vote. I'll be at the polls to vote for a democratic Senator for my state, but will be skipping the Presidential part of the ballot.
It's become apparent to me in the last few months that we are all fooling ourselves if we think what an individual feels in this country re: the presidential election means a stinking thing. The media decides who becomes president. I'm not playing anymore. This has become the United States of ABC<NBC<CBS<FOX&CNN.

This comment won't run anyway. I've posted over 40, and none ever has... again, the media runs it all.

Susan – Obama was 8 years old when this man Ayers did what he did.

Yes, but Ayers is 'unprepentent' about what he did and wished he had done more.

Obama went to his home on the eve of launching his political career to garner support from Ayers, who has some swing with radical liberal politics in Chicago. He also served on a community committee with him for years and called him a 'friend'.

BUT...Obama says we can't ask him questions about that. How friggin convenient! NICE PICK DEMS!!!!!

Phil-Little Rock   August 21st, 2008 10:57 am ET

By the way, isn't it interesting that they're talking about Obama's judgment when they lack much of the same? There's always semantics and hair-splitting when it comes to Republicans. That's why all your kids are being shot to death in this phony war on terror. Only an idiot like Bush could tell us bin Laden did this and then go after a man who's name is pronounced 'Sad-dam Hus-sein'.

Justin   August 21st, 2008 10:56 am ET

McCain has a BIG Catholic problem. His alliances with openly anti-catholic groups has tainted his entire campaign. Catholics should not vote for this man!

There is a poster (VLK) that says if Obama is elected this will no longer be "our" country. I would like to know what is meant by "our". The last time I checked Obama is just as American as John McCain, why the catastrophic prediction if Obama is elected? Is this just racial for you? That mentality is exactly how we wound up with George Bush who is the worst president in the history of the US.

Charlie in Maine   August 21st, 2008 10:55 am ET

The truth has a well known liberal bias so by all means Obama should tell the truth about McCain's behavior and policies. It is to Obama's advantage that given McCain's long checkered past he doesn't have to make anything up, and given Obama's gift for words he won't have to "sound negative" to be effective.

Quick question-
How does someone who seems so certain that life begins at conception tell us so casually that he might pick a pro-choice VP? as well say "I might pick a murderer for my VP." I'm sorry, but this is one issue that you can't pander about, or try to play both ways. If you feel as strongly about the issue as McCain seemed to at the Saddleback forum, then you don't even consider picking a pro-choice VP. I think I smell some pandering going on...

Bottom line- McCain is NOT a true Republican. This is a guy who has expressed interest in joining the Democratic Party on several occasions, and even cozied up to John Kerry to be considered as his VP.

The man IS an American Hero, but he also has numerous affairs when he cheated on his first wife, who waited for him faithfully for five and a half years while he was in Vietnam. And these weren't one night stand affairs, they were long running affairs lasting over a year. And when McCain was restationed by the Navy, he found a new mistress in the new location! In fact, He filed for a marriage license in Arizona to marry Cindy before his divorce from his first wife was even final! Is this the man that evangelicals want carrying the torch for family values?

Dan   August 21st, 2008 10:52 am ET

McSame is always attacking Obama on his patriotism. Mcsame thinks that because he was stupid enough to get shot down and caught and lame enough to have numerous affairs on his wife and tactless to the point where he was dating Cindy McLame while he was still living at home with his first wife, that this makes him more American than Obama. I do not respect McLame as a man first of all and as an ex- Marine myself, I am losing respect for McLame as an American. BHO is simply the best American Man for the job at this juncture up against JM. We have to let go of our ego and vote for the best American Man for the job. Vote for Obama 08 and 2012.

Lee   August 21st, 2008 10:44 am ET

McCain was only cited for poor judgement in the Keeting Five hearings. They had no grounds to charge him with anything beyond that. In fact, his experience from the Keeting Five lead him to create the McCain-Feingold Act shortly thereafter in hopes of cleaning up Washington. I believe it is safe to say McCain learned a lot from the Keeting Five incident and as such, the Obama campaign is very unlikely to gain ground with this.

I seem to recall a sex scandal conspiracy not too long ago attacking McCain that died within a week...

Dylan Los Angeles   August 21st, 2008 10:43 am ET

McCain has 100x more baggage than Obama. Rezko doesn't compare to Abramoff + Keating. Keating cost taxpayers billions of dollars in federal bailout, thanks in part to McCain's corruption.

All you folks who support mccain are nothing but irresponsible. Obviously you could care less about the future of your children.
These so called conservatives are nothing but pathetic. Fiscal conservative is nothing but a slogan to them. The primary principal of conservatism is to pay as you go, and not leave a mountain of debts for the next generation. The bible does say that a good steward leaves good inheritance for his or her children and not debt. Under Bush the country is now over 9 trillion in debt. I really pity some of you morons who do not understand the implications of irresponsible governing. Go ahead and vote for mccain who said in his memoirs that he is did not run for president in 2000 because he was patriotic but simply because he just wanted to be president. Go ahead and vote for mccain...MORONS!

Don't be dismayed by Obama fighting back with negative ads. John McCain said he would take the high road and not go negative but he lied again. After watching McCain Revealed last night on CNN I find that McCain is a natural born liar. He cheated on his habilatating first wife for years lying to her while seeing Cindy he lied to Cindy about his age,he lied to get a marriage license to marry Cindy before the divorce from his habilatating first wife was final. McCain lie all the time twisting Senator Barack Obama record and plan out of context. Earlier this year McCain denied having an affair with one of his staff members. Did McCain lie about the affair?, did his staff member lie dening the affair? Does McCain lie when flip flooping on all the plans he was once against. What happened for 26 years these plans had no importantance to McCain until he now wants to be President of the United States. McCain, SCARY, SCARY, SCARY!!!!!! I don't believe a word McCain say!!!!

Anyone who comes from Chicago politics has, at some time or another, had "dealings" with less than scrupulous advisors and "friends". Just ask Obama about Tony Rezko. And he has the nerve to suggest there's a connection between Reed and McCain? For those of you who are not familiar with Chicago politics, please read the story about Tony Rezko. Look at what he did for Obama. And while you're at it, read some about the political atmosphere in Chicago. After you read about Chicago politics, and what Obama came from, then make your decision if he's as clean and pure as he claims to be. I encourage everyone to read more about Obama's Chicago ties and his voting history in Illinois. "Mr. Clean" does not exist in politics – not with McCain or any politician.

I would like to answer the questions of all the people that are questioning why cnn's "investigative team" is not bringing up Mccaine and the Keating 5 Scandal. Since none of you apparently are motivated enough, or smart enough, or care enough to do your own research here it is.

Cnn is not bringing up the Keating 5 scandal because the prosecutor in that case has come out on record saying John Mccaine did nothing wrong. He has come out on record stating that there should have been NO action taken on John Mccaine and that is what he recommended to Congress. The democratic congress at the time included John Mccaine in the censure simply because the other 4 were democrats and they did not want it to be a "democrat scandal".

There you go Obamabots....is there anything else you would like me to research for you while you sit at home collecting your checks?

Amy from Michigan   August 21st, 2008 10:27 am ET

It's about time someone reminded the American people that McCain represents the SAME OLD POLITICS! I'm tired of sending people to Washington only to have them pad their own pockets, look out for their friends, and get cozy with lobbyists. We need to shake things up in Washington. We need to change how business is done in Washington. We need someone who is there to look out for us, and that is Senator Obama.

I think it is amazing that Obama has refrained from being negative for so long. Now it has come. Not a surprise. Politics is a dirty game and everyone gets the mud on them. Negativity is inevitable in political campaigns. I am sure that George Washington probably had to dish out some negativity in response to negative attacks on him at the time. Human nature is human nature.
Please United States citizens go out and vote for Christian Obama. He is not a Muslim. Unlike all the Hussein comments above imply. (very sneaky lying republican operatives using a fact and spinning like mad).
The world needs a change. Look at what Bush has managed to get Russia to do. So now you have got Iran, Iraq, and Russia to deal with. Its a good thing that Bush failed to get offside while in China. Maybe that is McCain goal.
Be proud of your country and teach the Republicans a lesson. Republicans stand for all that is wrong with the United States at this time. Voting them back in will see the demise of United States influence as that of China rises.
When the Republicans have been out of power for a decade they will learn the needed lessons.
So vote againts GOP (McCain) vote DEM (Obama) and yes especially Puma people. As soon as u vote republican you are no democrat. A fact. Your choice, but still a fact.

Bill Ayers methods may have been questionable, but in some ways he was an American hero. He wanted to stop the war, end the unneccesary killing of Vietnamese civillians and American soldiers. Long after the war was over, we realized the folly of the Vietnamese War and that the people like Ayers who spoke out the earliest were the ones speaking the truth. As Dylan said "you don't need a weatherman to show which way the wind blows."

Michael "C" Lorton, Virginia   August 21st, 2008 10:20 am ET

McCain can't even say "Let me be clear: I am not questioning his patriotism, I am questioning his judgment" without looking at note cards. Check the video.

He can't give a simple clarification of his own opinion without reading it so he doesn't get it wrong.

What can we expect from a candidate who isn't allowed to speak for his own campaign.

Iowan that can think for himself   August 21st, 2008 10:16 am ET

Obama wanted to get rid of the negative politics, but by the looks of it Americans didn't. Every time someone runs a negative add on Obama, he goes down in the polls. Americans just aren't smart enough to look past the old politics and in turn Obama has to talk at their level. If John McCain wins, it will be the end of America as a superpower! We will be on the same level as Russia.

Rezko, Ayers, Wright, etc. etc. Obama calling the kettle black is something that will backfire on him.

Mauri   August 21st, 2008 10:12 am ET

These pros and cons concerning McCain are interesting if nothing else. The day politicians in this country, including Barack Obama, do not misrepresent their actions and words, will be the day the right to vote will die. But we do have a never-fail mechanism that serves us so well during campaign season - and that's the old standby, "Actions speak louder than words." In the present presidential campaign, we are inundated with words in ads, speeches and debate-like responses which, in some cases, can mislead us when one candidate is blessed with an inborn talent for writing speeches and using the teleprompter. Then there is the one who has been on public display for a quarter-century. This is about the one who has put himself on the line by his votes, his actions for the good of the country, and his personal behavior. When we all remember this, then personal attacks are unnecessary. That's where we are right now. John McCain is no more immoral than is Barack Obama. It's that he's just been around longer, which defines perhaps the most effective campaign word, "EXPERIENCE."

Carmon Minneapolis MN   August 21st, 2008 10:12 am ET

McCain is honest??? Really? You're serious. It's funny to me how people can keep saying this over and over again. And these same people believe that Obama is the political scum of the earth. Yeah right! Listen to yourselves. They are in the same occupation. It's like the pot calling the kettle black. Both candidates are pointing out the skeletons in each other closets. If your a Republican you're going to vote that way. If you're a Democrat you're going to vote for your candidate. So, let's just stop playing mind games on people (and yourselves) about who's more honest and trustworthy than the other.

Al Bond   August 21st, 2008 10:11 am ET

Yes, Obama should take off the gloves. There are so many things that McLame should be hit with. One of my favorites is the story of the prison guard drawing a cross in the sand that he copied from Alexandr Solzhenitsyn's book about the Soviet Gulag. It's almost word for word, and McLame never mentioned it in all his writing about Vietnam until 1999 after he read Alexandr Solzhenitsyn and called him a hero. What a liar McSame is! And if you go to you tube and search McCain and POWs you can see what other veterans really think about his pow experience and how much he lied about it.

I hate to see Obama do this, and move toward the low road, but McCain has practically been playing in the mud on the low road for the last 6 to 8 weeks and it's starting to effect some voters opinions. McCain's bus that was supposed to one of honor, respect and issues has been spinning it's tires in that mud on the lowest of roads for weeks now and American falls for it. This is what's won elections for the last two decades. Creating voter fear in your opponent using the political and social climate at that time. Is it sad? Yes, very sad. Should it be what politicians have to do? No, it shouldn't? Should so much of the American citizens be fooled by all of this and use this type of media to cast their vote? No, but it does. American citizens vote out of fear and emotion faster then they do logic. That's always been true, and the Republicans have a strong track record of generating that fear with their campaigns.

I feel sorry for all those Clinton supporters who would rather vote for McCain.. Agreed that lot of them are either in their menopausal or post-menopausal stage and dont have much use of ther reproductive organs but given how vociferous McCain was against the moderate supreme courts judges during his last interview, it is given that McCain Presidency among other things means appointment of Scalia clones to supreme court and end of Roe versus Wade. According to articles Bill Ayers turned himself in for his crimes in 1980, but the government let him off saying that they did not have enough evidence against him even though he said he did it. Then he works his way up to being a Professor. Articles also state that Ayers introduced Obama to people in Illinois when the Senator was running for the Illinois senate not his running for the White House. At the time Ayers was committing bombings in the 60s Obama was about 7 years old-I do not think that times him in with Ayers and the Weathermen if so the University of Illinois at Chicago is also involved because they hired Ayers.

A Republican whose undecided on who to vote for.

Mccain can talk about following bin Laden "to the gates of hell" all he wants, but the reality is bin Laden was never in Iraq. He's on the Afghanistan/Pakistan border, the place Mccain chastised Obama for suggesting we attack. Tough talk is not reality.

McCain = Reed/Abramoff/Keating 5/Adultery/blonde bimbette lobbyist. To you McCainiac Rethuglians: what goes around, comes around. Welcome to the new reality of tit for tat political hardball!!!! Bring it on!!! I would rather my candidate have a relationship with an outspoken minister than a gangster lobbyist now in fedral prison for corruption and bribery.

Elaine Johnson   August 21st, 2008 10:02 am ET

McCain was cleared re the Keating scandal. His wife lost a ton of money because she had money in that bank.....who is the person that claims he was involved in making money? God what next?
Obama's good friends are, or were:
Wm Ayers (terrorist)
Rezko (convicted criminal involved in fraud re Chgo politics)
J Wright (pretend Christian who has friends who are terrorist such as the leader of Lybia) Murdered how many people in PAN Am 103 over Scotland
He studied Malcom X and those kinds of people
Went to Columbia Univ (Marxist teaching personified)
Obama did throw his grandmother under the bus for saying "if she saw a group of black kids she was scared"....wow was she ever bad person. He apologized later I must say.
I THINK MCCAIN WOULD PUT AMERICA BEFORE HIMSELF FOLKS.
Obama might do the same if he has about 10-15 add'l years of experience in life and understands that power and money are not that important. He loves the "stage".

I feel very sorry for those that have fallen under the Obama spell. At times it has been frustrating, other times very sad that so many have been so fooled. The saddest part is that if by some stretch of the imagination this man would make it into office, he will destroy this country as we know it.

I'm not a republican, I would have loved for my party to have presented a candidate that would pull this country out of the trouble we find ourselves in, but they did not do so. They chose to put Obama in the forefront and in doing so I cannot in good conscience vote my party in this election.

McCain is far from perfect but he is not the dangerous animal that Obama is and I am willing to risk McCain whereas risking Obama in the office makes me physically ill.

To those that say, "Obama might have to take off his gloves", surely you are you kidding, Obama's gloves have been off from day one. Out of one side of his mouth he touts being above all that, out of the other side flows the negative attacks. His hands have been cold for a long time.

jnt   August 21st, 2008 10:01 am ET

well, mccain started it. he's been running negative ads for about a month now. they're not even about anything real "oo he's too popular" for example. obama tried to hold back, but it was starting look like a swift boat operation, with karl rove at the helm of mccains campaign spreading his smears. this after mccain said he wanted a "civil debate on the issues"

Eli   August 21st, 2008 10:01 am ET

Well let see BIG O, your connections with Rezko, Ayers, Wright, not to mention your shady same old politics way you won your first seat in IL. I believe if I had been O's team I would have walked away from this ad. Well I guess I'm just one of those so called BITTER Hillary Clinton fan, or do I just read the NEWS.

Who just got finished paying for their student loan? Obama. Mcsame has a home in every part of the country and may have more around the world. How many of you can say that. Obama's friends pay grades are closer to ours than most of McSame's too. So who do you think feel your pain the most. Obama.

Listen, we know who Obama is. We know what he stands for. If you don't then do your research and stop complaining that you don't know who is. If you have the aptitude of learning how to tie your shoe's then I don't think "The audacity of hope", or the documentary that CNN is running will be too hard to take in. Politics, unfortunately is a game of strategy with big reward for digging up dirt. If Obama has to go negative it doesn't mean that his agenda isn't about change. His entire life is based on change and the greater good for the people. He has to do what it takes to get in. I'm sure you working folks know what that means.

Anthony Landaeta   August 21st, 2008 9:57 am ET

1988 TV Presidential Ad Guess who ?

Narrator: The White House isn't the place to learn how to deal with international crisis, the balance of power, war and peace, and the economic future of the next generation. A President has got to know the territory, but that's not enough. To win the White House, the Democratic nominee had better have a crystal clear vision of what the Democratic Party stands for. Joe Biden sees the Presidency as a pulpit from which America sets an example for the world. He believes that developing nations once saw America as more than a place; they saw us as an idea; A goal to reach for. He knows that they've lost confidence in us; that they see us losing our way; our resolve; our ideals. Joe Biden thinks it's time to remind the world of what America stands for. Freedom. Equality. Justice. Opportunity. He thinks it's time to put courage over compromise. Time to express America's outrage once again towards repression, brutality, violence, the abuse of human dignity around the world, and if the sparks fly, so be it...

The first part of the ad states "The White House isn't the place to learn" this was a reference made to Jessie Jackson who was running for President. (Today that would be Obama) The 2nd part is no differrent then what obama says about our country today 20 years later. Wow what a sad statement this isn't change its the Democratic party line. "Joe Biden for President 1988"

Sounds like the Obama campaign will do and say just about anything! The mudslinging continues on both sides with a little more desperation on the Obama side. Why is that? This Democrat has heard little good from the Obama camp! I guess I will be voting Republican!

Bay   August 21st, 2008 9:56 am ET

Funny to me how when McCain does the same thing it is called campaigning and or fair play, Obama runs a similar add and all the criticism comes out of the woodworks. Good for Obama, sling as much mud as McCain slings, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. McCain is a joke, his policies are old and tired just like him, if this country is stupid enough to elect a third term of George Bush then it deserves all the strife, world conflict, and loss jobs that it gets. Unbelievable to me that the same policies McCain pushes are the very same ones that have failed for the last 8 years. He is old, stubborn, and stuck in his ways, it is time to get all these old men out of Washington and get some new ideas, some fresh looks at doing some of these things are we are an empire ready to fall, mark my words.

anonymous   August 21st, 2008 9:56 am ET

Obama DOESNT need to do what McCain (err Bush campaign managers) is doing!! There is enough TRUTH in McCaine's flip-flop strategy and policy/speech blunders to make use of!!!!

Marge Hibbing Mn   August 21st, 2008 9:56 am ET

Wonder if the republicans posted an ad that linked obama to the gangster Rezko who along with the gangster Auchi, a buddy of Saddam, financed his two senate, state and federal campaigns, And put the financing of his million dollar home in a trust fund so he could afford it, which is true because it was brought up in Rezko's trial, would cause a ruckus.

But if McCain should dare to run an ad about that the jumping dancing and good old boys who support obama would mess themselves.

Rob   August 21st, 2008 9:56 am ET

Why is it "negative" to bring up for discussion questionable deeds by politicians. I think both instances ought to be talked about and "reported" on. Personal attacks are not acceptable in my view, but these incidents that leave a "perception of wrong-doing SHOULD be talked about without being referred to as "negative attacks".

Matt, Minneapolis, MN   August 21st, 2008 9:56 am ET

You guys post crap like the truth squad–which certain points are completely wrong–
You allow this idiot to post anything-
Good News-But in this country he only gets 1 vote-
Which he probably won't use-
CNN is very biased towards wimps like this-
Helping and serving others is what makes you great–Not beating up on others–
Maybe that's the reason the DEMS have had only 1 President win the White House with more that 50% of the Popular vote-
That was Carter–What a sad commentary-
But please continue to be vicious–it only guarantees contoinous losses–

Ian   August 21st, 2008 9:55 am ET

Obama is the last person who should be throwing mud. While Americans are worried about losing their homes Obama has been making shady real estate deals with Tony Rezko, who was the subject of a federal corruption case (found guilty earlier this year on 16 counts). He is also under indictment in another case scheduled for trial next year. Rezko helped launch Obama's political career and they have been friends since 1990. Also involved in the same case was Joseph Aramanda, whose son was given a job with Obama at the request of Rezko.

I haven't even begun to count the number of terrorists from the Weather Underground Obama counts as his close friends and he even has terrorists holding fundraisers for him.

If Obama wants to discuss ethics the GOP will be happy to debate that issue with him. Obama is a corrupt, America hating, empty suit.

Unfortunately, negative ads work in markets that have a high percentage of uneducated voters, which is why this ad is being ran primarily in rural Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, and South Carolina. The educated tend to focus on the important issues which is why this type of ad would backfire if ran in places like Iowa, New Hampshire, or Colorado.

The ad really doesn't "link" Mccaine to anything improper....where is the proof of these "suggestions" Sen. Obama is making? I find this type of campaigning very distasteful on Obama's part. He is constantly putting words in Mccaine's mouth that I have never heard Mccaine say. Never once have I hear Mccaine mention anything about Obama's race, just Obama and his supporters. Never once have I heard Mccaine question Obama's love of this country (in fact just the opposite I have hear Mccaine say point blank that Obama loves his country) Obama is really sinking to a new low in politics and his campaign is really starting to sound desperate.

OMG   August 21st, 2008 9:55 am ET

Yep. We are in America. Politicians slinging hash at each other instead of talking about the issues that concern the citizens of the country they supposedly love and the steps they are going to take to fix this nation. Either way you vote, we are all going to loose.. If you vote McCain, we will get 4 mores years of the Bush theory. If you vote Obama, we get someone without the experience to lead this great nation. Very bleak future................................

Doris   August 21st, 2008 9:55 am ET

Doesn't matter what Obama camp throws out. McCain will win. Obama supporters should have backed the only person who could have beat McCain. That of course is Hillary Clinton. I ask God each day to give me the strength to go and vote for McCain knowing that my poor father will probably turn in his grave. I will not vote for Obama under any circumstances. Remember people it's not about what party takes the whitehouse. Its about who we think can fix this country. I honestly think McCain would be a better leader.

It is unfortunate that all politicians have to gear their campaigns to the negative. No way around it when you see polling numbers rise and fall with the increase in said negativity.

Jessie   August 21st, 2008 9:49 am ET

I hate to say it, but Obama really needs to keep going on the attack. I had initially thought that the American people were sick of the negative ads that have enveloped politics since Bush was elected and were responding well to Obama's positive outlook on change, but the polls are obviously telling a very different story.

The American public still responds to negative ads, and unfortunately, the barage of them that McScary has put out the past couple weeks against Obama have worked to his advantage.

McScary has so many truly negative things going against him, and I think it's high time Obama went for the jugular!

skweez   August 21st, 2008 9:49 am ET

Has our country truly learned nothing? Hate still abounds. There will never be peace and prosperity until our so-called leaders start leading in the right direction. It's still the almighty dollar (not so mighty anymore) that directs this country's leaders. Why the war? Oil...of course.

Negative attack ads that are working.....unreal. Are the American people really that ignorant that they don't find out the real facts themselves? Shame on us for allowing these types of tactics to monopolize our TV screens, internet sites, etc. And shame on our so-called MEDIA for all the distortions they air. What happened to our integrity, our thirst for the truth? I'd rather have an unknown than any elected representative we've put into office in the last 10 years. We've seen how well they get things done....take a look around.....this is what you want for another 4 years. Until we get all those dishonest politicians out of Congress...nothing will change. Perhaps we just need to start from square 1 again.....Out with the Old....In with the New.

fred   August 21st, 2008 9:49 am ET

I'm just going to say what an Obama person would say if this was a McCain ad. "he's taking the low road" or "america is sick of these negative ads"

Aaron   August 21st, 2008 9:49 am ET

Keep swinging, Obama. Keep those punches coming until you back McCain against the ropes – if they want to play dirty, just destroy them so we can get back to the business of actually doing something good with the future of our country.

Just stay relevant, please. McCain's campaign has been focusing on absurdities, but there is PLENTY of material to attack McCain on – so keep it up!

Rich   August 21st, 2008 9:48 am ET

Two comebacks for this ad:

Jeremiah Wright, the racist who has been mysteriously erased by the liberal media
Tony Rezko, the convict who funded Barack Hussein Obama's senate campaign, as well as his mansion. His sentencing suddenly got pushed back a couple of months to keep him out of the headlines.

Barack is as dirty a politician as they come. Just look what he did to Hillary and the way he has manipulated the brainless media. Those of us in Chicago, the ones who have not drank the brain killing koolaid, know Barack is a creation of the Chicago filthy political machine and the media who cannot fantasize enough about his hopeful presidency.

McCain claims Washington is broken then proceeds to continue the same old business of sucking up to lobbyists. Then the next day, he calls them "Birds of Prey" while still having them as senior aides in his campaign.

Why will the main stream media call him out on this? How long must this nation be held hostage to the GOP?

E   August 21st, 2008 9:47 am ET

This is a good beginning. However, I think Obama should not just stop at these... he should examine in detail what Mc Cain did with those 26 years he claims give him the experience to be commander in chief. Experience may be Mc Cain saviour but in an election of change...it may likely be his downfall....

and trust me...

Obama should not go down this path. His campaign is opening the door for the likes' of Ayers, an unrepentant terrorist. Obama's past relationships with some of these questionable people will provide a lot of material for ugly ads. This door was better left closed!

angie   August 21st, 2008 9:45 am ET

And when was the last time William Ayers blew something up? Please. Next! And by the way the "unrepentent terrorist" (thanks Hannity) did not make those supposed comments on 9/11. The article was PRINTED on 9/11 so the interview was done PRIOR to that date. Plus those were the REPORTER'S words and we all know how accurate they can be!

Elaine   August 21st, 2008 9:44 am ET

I agree with Dylan in Los Angeles....

Obama needs to toughen up if he hopes to win this election. The McCain camp picks apart speeches made by Obama on a daily basis in the hopes of using his own words against him and it's working. In addition, McCain is incorporating the Clinton playbook in their attacks as well.

While Obama pledges to run a clean campaign, and most folks admire him for that, he needs to start hitting back and hit back hard. Yesterday, McCain agreed with a woman that we should think about re-instating the Draft.

This is great ammo for the Obama campaign to use again McCain. Hit this point hard to parents of Draft age children. If it were Obama who agreed with this woman yesterday, the McCain camp would have been all over it already.

The days of playing nice is over. The only people who seem to be aware of that fact is the McCain Camp. Look how well it's working for them.

Warren   August 21st, 2008 9:44 am ET

As an undecided voter my heart sinks everytime Obama stoops to the level of the typical politician. First he broke his pledge to use public funding. Now he runs ads worthy of Karl Rove. Increasingly Obama looks more and more like the same old political hack, only without the needed experience to govern.

beevee   August 21st, 2008 9:43 am ET

When asked whether his financial contributions to John McCain and the other four senators embroiled inthe Keating Five Savings and Loan Scandal brought him favorable treatment , Charles Keating replied "I certainly hope so"....I would love to hear McSame's explanation, wouldn't you?

Poll Me   August 21st, 2008 9:43 am ET

I have previously stated that I personally wanted to see Obama run a clean, high-road campaign against McSame because Obama is much stronger on issues that matter. At that time, Obama had a 7% lead. Since then, his lead has somehow diminished (nobody ever polled me though) and the experts say it's because of McSame's negative attack ads (which he stole from Billary). Now I say to Obama, attack, attack, attack! I hate politics and I especially hate negative campaigns, but sometimes you have to level the playing the field. During the primary season, we saw Billary turn negative in the week leading up to "Super Tuesday" and I believe that ultimately led to her downfall. Although she survived, Obama turned went on the offensive and she started to cry foul play. Obama is indeed a politician and he's tougher than many people give him credit for. I'd like to see him expose McCain for what he really is. Grandpa has some nerve and it's time Obama put him in his place once and for all.

Hit back with the Keating 5 scandal.

Atari   August 21st, 2008 9:41 am ET

Everyone knows about McCain and the Keating 5 scandal. What Obama needs to worry about is being linked William Ayers. The man’s group was responsible for bombing the Capital and the Pentagon. Do a Google search of the Weatherman. If he gets linked to a group that’s whole purpose was to bring down the US government he'll be radioactive and make John Edwards look like a saint.

What goes around comes around and the rethugs have been running negative ads for so long it's about time they get it back at them. Obama wanted to run a positive campaign & McBush said he would, but of course he hasn't and if the regthugs want negative, they'll get it in plenty cause McSame's got a lot to hide while Obama has only lies thrown at him from the rethugs.

REPUBLICANS: PRIDE IN IGNORANCE

Dexter in Houston TX   August 21st, 2008 9:41 am ET

It's unfortunate that many Americans thrive on the Jerry Springer scandalous approach to politics. It's like no one wants to be smarter, no one wants to be enlightened.
How unfortunate that Barack Obama feels the need to go negative. He hasn't lost my vote, but I am very disappointed.

R. Tubb   August 21st, 2008 9:41 am ET

Obama is getting worried. They are sinking in the polls.

Jose Vazquez   August 21st, 2008 9:40 am ET

i find it disengenious whenever any politician or any perosn that follows a political party says they want to bring the nation together. This election liek the last 2 will be very close. On Nov. 5th half the country will feel that they lost the other half will be the "winners" and they will gloat about it. There will not be any country unity and the reason is that the majority of Americans choose a canidate on his or her moral beliefs. This will not nor shoudl it change. Those that believe the the Right to Life tumps the economic issues will never accept Senator Obama and those that believe that Roe V. Wade is the right thing will never accept Senator McCain. Therefore there will NEVER be a united country.

sherry FUWP   August 21st, 2008 9:40 am ET

Yes, I am FUWP (fed up with politics). And to Jeff O – a crook is a crook is a crook – doesn't matter it he is at University of Chicago or University of Illinois. You Obamanots just kill me with your arrognace and stupidity. Obama has more ties to crooks than you can name and it doesn't matter where they are – they are still crooks. And he is taking illegal money from somebody because Americans are having a hard enough time putting a roof over their heads, gas in their autos and food in their bellys – they don't have all those millions to throw away on Obama. Get real folks – do some homework – get Obama to tell you where all his millions in donations are coming from – terrorists, crooks and illegals – probably even Germany and Canada. Face it folks, every other country would pay big money to see America fall on its face – and what better way than to support Obama????

McCain/Hillary 08 – UNSTOPPABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. Mcain went to a Navy college
3. Mcain went to Nam.
4. Mcain became a POW
5. Mcain became a War Hero? What did he do that many others didn't do??????? What makes him more of a hero than any other POW!?
6. Mcain became a Sen.
&. Mcain wants to be the Pres.

It looks like Obama's campaign is up to dirty tricks again. Time for McCain to revive the Ayers/Rev. Wright in some new ads.

A. Little   August 21st, 2008 9:39 am ET

nah, really?

Mr. Steve   August 21st, 2008 9:38 am ET

I thought this election was going to be about "change". Where's the change? How is this any different from Clinton/Bush? Obama is clearly tired of trying to change the world, and has decided to play the same game that everyone else plays. He's showing his true colors. He deceived us into thinking he was different, but when push comes to shove, he's just like all the others. That's the big story here.

I was one of those initial followers who was dumb enough to believe that somebody new could break into presidential politics. I feel like an idiot now. There was such a great opportunity to have a genuine dialogue about how to make America better...and instead Obama has to call Rick Warren names and buy attack ads with all this money he raised (mostly from people donating over $1000...not from the common person).

Oh well. Four more years

RJ, CA   August 21st, 2008 9:38 am ET

YES! Let's hear all about the relationship between Obama and the bombers Ayers and Dorn! Let's hear it loud and clear!

They feted Obama and Michelle in their living rooms and introduced them to the Chicago liberal money bags when Obama was running in Illinois. Then Obama served on a board with Ayers for years and years. To this day, Ayers and Dorn maintain that what they did was the right thing to do, and they state they wish they could have done more damage yet.

And Rezko is another deep, dirty story of Obama's support for IL legislation to help Rezko, the slum lord! Let's hear about it all — it's about time!

Nice...time for Barack to roll up the sleeves, stop playing Mr. Nice Guy and start getting a little dirty. McCain went negative months ago while Barack consistently took the high road.

Expose McCain for the senile, Bush prototype that he is. This historic race shouldn't even be close but apparently some Americans are too stupid or racist to see the light.

Rache from Bowie   August 21st, 2008 9:37 am ET

McKeating played dirty in desperation of eroding poll numbers. So Obama is slingin' some mud and will see where it sticks.

The media is pushing for this type of discourse and now here it is full force. What a shame!

Julie   August 21st, 2008 9:37 am ET

Personally, I don't care for either McCain or Obama and haven't yet decided which one I'm going to vote for. Seeing Obama's team run ad's like this just shows one more example of how the two parties are the same.

I could vote for the candidate who would be willing to take some of the money they have been spending on advertising and use a portion of it to help their fellow Americans... Go to a gas station and fill up people's tanks for a day. At least that would be a change in politics.

There is no difference within the two parties, they are one in the same.

An Intelligent American   August 21st, 2008 9:37 am ET

For all you McCain supporters, are you serious? Look it, you have to use your brains. Stop being such a child about this. The question is, who would be a better president. Obama has better economy plans, is better at handling foreign affairs and is a smarter individual. John McCain has NO ECONOMIC PLANS, doesn't know how to solve problems other than sending in troops, and as you already know, is a complete reject as far as his IQ is concerned. This should be treated like a Job Interview. Just because someone is old doesn't mean the will do the job better. You want to hire the guy who is going to try and fix America's problems. Not the guy who just wants to be president so he can say he was. Stop trying to mess up the US !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone who doesn't understand this should try going back and finishing High School.

Patriot Patrick of Houston   August 21st, 2008 9:36 am ET

'McCain Revealed' showed me that he is not presidential at all. Where were the signs of character? He was given rank and military favors because of his father – not his accomplishments. He admits to being anti-intelligence. He lacks integrity. He lies, he cheats, he panders. In his entire life I see nothing that makes him presidential material. He was shot down because he wasn't a good pilot, because he didn't apply himself in flight school (didn't have to, dad pulled strings). That DOES NOT MAKE HIM QUALIFIED TO LEAD. He's a womanizer. He's a war monger. His first wife waited for five years for his return from Hanoi. He repaid her with infidelity. He chose money over substance when it came to his new wife...no wonder he's in bed with big oil.

Mugsy Mugilla   August 21st, 2008 9:36 am ET

Hey Jeff O, that's CNN's mistake not McCain's. Here's the last part of McCain's statement left out of this article:

"The question now is, will Barack Obama immediately call on the
University of Illinois to release all of the records they are
currently withholding to shed further light on Senator Obama's
relationship with this unrepentant terrorist?" —McCain spokesman Brian

Common Sense!   August 21st, 2008 9:35 am ET

HMMMM ... Just noticed another McCain lie in his speechs. He chastises Obama for planning to "raise taxes for taxpayers".

Obama has been very clear ... He plans to CUT taxes for the middle income and low income groups and raise taxes only for the top 1% of taxpayers. That is the group that good ole Bushy cut taxes for.

Amazing??? that McCain did not get his facts straight. But, when has he ever?

Amy   August 21st, 2008 9:35 am ET

It's about time someone reminded the American people that McCain represents the SAME OLD POLITICS! I'm tired of sending people to Washington only to have them pad their own pockets, look out for their friends, and get cozy with lobbyists. We need to shake things up in Washington. We need to change how business is done in Washington. We need someone who is there to look out for us, and that is Senator Obama.

cjr   August 21st, 2008 9:35 am ET

Let's see John squirm or get that deer in the headlights look. Or better yet throw one big fit. And then let's talk about the draft comment that he did not deny in New Mexico.!

This person has been an opportunist all of his life. If he is elected, it will be war, war war – its all he knows. this time however, there will be a draft and thousands of young men and women will be used as cannon fodder. And McCain won't care.

Tony Rezko? Raised funds for Obama then Obama buys a partial piece of a lot. (The doctor sold the mansion to Obama for $1.65 million - $300,000 below the asking price. Rezko's wife paid full price - $625,000 - for the adjacent vacant lot. The deals closed in June 2005. Six months later, Obama paid Rezko's wife $104,500 for a strip of her land, so he could have a bigger yard.) Obama called this "boneheaded" Good judgement over the war but bad judgement over a simple land deal. ??????

Obama is the same as the Washington regulars. Only difference Obama has been in Washington for 4 years 2 of which he has spent running for president. Yet he still aligns himself with the old Washington Kennedy support. Why is that? Thanks not Change. Just the new kid on the block trying to work above his pay grade.

Toz   August 21st, 2008 9:34 am ET

Obama really can't win, can he? If he does not attack with negative ads, he is criticized for being too complacent. If he takes the gloves off and goes on the attack, he is criticized for going negative. John McCain has spent $31 million in negative tv ads in the last 30 days...Rove-ian politics is here to stay.

Jason   August 21st, 2008 9:34 am ET

I thought Obama wasn't resorting to "negative politics" or attack ads?

Just another example of how Obama will do anything (wearing the flag pin, disowning a pastor he's trusted for 20 years, giving in to off shore drilling) to get votes from those that are not educated about any of the issues at hand.

Election Watcher   August 21st, 2008 9:34 am ET

Fed Up   August 21st, 2008 9:33 am ET

Speider.....Well said!

Republicans are crazy if they think McCain's closet is clean. He's a republican and they have run this country in the ground. What makes you think he will be any different? He's won't! Anyone who's still a republican after the last eight years that we've had needs some serious medical help!

David   August 21st, 2008 9:32 am ET

It is time Obama and the democrats realize you have to fight back and also sometimes need to through the first punch. Obama wants to change the world but first he has to get in the position so if that means doing the negative ads than that is what he needs to do. It is ashame that Hillary ( a person I respect even still) and John McCain had to resort to negative ads to beat the new guy and it is even more ashame that in America we let this type of stuff work. The truth is if you spend all your time running negative ads on someone that means you have nothing good to say about yourself. McCain realized like Hillary they could not when on merrit or issues because they have been around so long so it was their choices that got us to where we are. When companies start to go under they hire a new younger CEO to bring in fresh ideas and a new way of doing things. Yes McCain has experiance but that experiance is in doing things the wrong way. As an independent that is a ex-Navy i respect Hillary and McCain but at the age of 37 I feel it is time to go a new direction. We need someone who knows the possibility out there how can McCain speak of new technology when he does not even use email or computers. This is a technical world and the new wars need to be fought in that world not with guns and tanks. McCain if you realy put country first you should know the experiance you have has nothing to do with the experiance needed for america to compete in this world. Why go take out missles with bombs when you can simply hack in and take the lunchers off-line?

John C   August 21st, 2008 9:32 am ET

Rob Kole   August 21st, 2008 9:32 am ET

Wasn't Obama eariler this week calling on McCain to stop the personal attacks and just discuss the issues? Now this ad comes out. Combine this with the flip flop on school vouchers to appease the teachers union Obama has become one of the same old politicos he wants to replace...

If the Democrats want to win in November they had better make sure Hillary is waiting by the phone.

Well, I guess that means something else is making a comeback, and Michelle, it won't be hope. More like Rezko, Ayers, Wright, etc....
It's not like we didn't see this coming – anybody who thought Obama put these issues to bed in March is very naive. It's not a coincidence that Obama started his losing streak in March with the appearance of Wright, and he hasn't been able to recover since. First he couldn't close the deal in the primaries, and now he can't break away from McCain. Superdelegates, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain – go ahead and nominate another arrogant, aloof loser. We democrats are used to it by now.

I can hope this election campaign does not go into the gutter as it did in 2004. But, it seems my hopes are going to be futile.

Camp McCain is "a little testy" about this ad. It seems to have hit a nerve. As for Mr. Ayers, I don't see the point. Sen. Obama sat on a board with an individual literally decades after he allegedly committed crimes. I guess there really is no such thing as redemption and paying a debt to society. No wonder Michelle Obama called America mean.

Mike in Columbus   August 21st, 2008 9:28 am ET

Good... remove the gloves.

Its been sad to see McCain, a man I had a lot of respect, for lower himself the way he has. But that's what it takes to be elected as a republican apparently. Honesty certainly doesn't do it. He learned that 4 years ago. Sad and disgusting! All aboard the BS express!

Sherri   August 21st, 2008 9:28 am ET

ABOUT DARN TIME! McCain has more dirty laundry then the internet has users! The Obama campaign now realize that they must get down and down with the McCain Rove GOP. thats all they understand. Have we not learned anything for the 2004 Kerry fiasco?. Every misstatement that McCain makes (and there are a ton of this) the Obama campaign, the Dems, the 521's, moveon.org, ALL of them need to jump on them and get it out there to the American people. His latest comment about reinstating the draft is another example that this guy is too dangerous to be president. Lets see him senior moment his way out of this latest misstatement.

Mike from Florida   August 21st, 2008 9:28 am ET

I would go nuclear on McCain. Just keep running loops of him saying we should have 100 year war in Iraq, Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran and that he knows nothing about the economy. He will melt like wax under the heat.

Obama was not a professor at the University of Chicago, he was a lecturer. The Obama camp may want to check it's facts before making any statements.

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   August 21st, 2008 9:26 am ET

The difference between Reed and Ayers is that Reed was a part of the on going scandal. When the scandal was being investigated, who was in charge? If it was McCain, as most people believe, where was his maverick attituted and actions then? Why didn't he nail everyone who was wrong to the wall for wasting taxpayer time and money for illegal and immoral activity?

With regards to Ayers' illegal activities, it had ended well before Obama could vote from my understanding. What has Ayers done in the past 10 years that has been illegal and/or violent? Has he been a part of any corruption scandal? Should he condem what he did - yes. Has he done it since? Not to the best of CNN and other groups reporting.

Nobama in VA   August 21st, 2008 9:26 am ET

Hey Jeff O...if you look closer (checking facts) you'll notice that the mention of the University of Chicago isn't quoted from the McCain camp.

David   August 21st, 2008 9:25 am ET

This accusation against McCain is lame and of little consequence. Obama will have to do much better than that to keep attention away from relationships like Rev. Wright (20 yrs of GD America), Black Liberation Theology, Rev. Pfleger, Bill Ayers and the Weathermen (homegrown terrorist), etc.. Not to mention all the inaccuracies in his book 'Dreams of my Father'. Not to mention Obama's radical policies of high tax even in a sluggish economy. Not to mention his 'don't drill it won't help' bull. I think the Dems are beginning to think 'I can't believe we will nominate this guy we didn't know.'

Jim   August 21st, 2008 9:25 am ET

Wow, politics as usual. A truly typical ad by a truly typical politician after all.

Tim   August 21st, 2008 9:24 am ET

McCain's response is better and accurate. He has worked to expose these types of people. When will Obama insist that the records held by the taxpayer funded University of Illinois Chicago regarding Bill Ayer's organization that Obama ran be released?

Obama is a little leaguer

Casey   August 21st, 2008 9:24 am ET

Although true, I am a bit disappointed that Obama's camp went this route. I'm not a fan of these adds. But I think the real problem here is that this is the sort of thing I want the main stream media to pick up and report on, for both sides. If the media did its job, Obama wouldn't feel the need to do it for them.

I'm so sick of the media's fear to call these politicians out when they lie or make false claims. It just seems that they're so afraid of being labeled as biased that they just report exactly what both sides say without ever setting the record straight. For example, Obama could say that the sky is brown and McCain could say it's blue. Instead of doing some research and figuring out who's right, they just report both statements as if they each have the same validity. Point in case, how long will it take to see any change in gas prices if we started off-shore drilling today? Quit letting them just make misleading statement after misleading statement and do your job.

Turnabout is fair play. Any McCain supporter will yell that to the rooftops and has been all through McCain's recent attacks.
Besides, this stuff about McCain is not only true it actually happened while he was a Senator as opposed to the McCain campaign's attempt to link Obama to someone who was a bad guy when Obama was 8!!!

LAMONT   August 21st, 2008 9:24 am ET

HERE, HERE SPEIDER. That was well said. I know it is not Obama's style to go dirty, that is the position of a true Christian, but he might have to ask for forgivness.

blueken   August 21st, 2008 9:24 am ET

I was in the anti war movement back in the 60's. We didn't call ourselves terrorists we called ourselves patriots. The government said that if we didn't invest our blood and treasure into South Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand would become communist. We didn't believe a word of it. We pulled out and nothing happened. Who was right? You tell me. It is a myth that the majority of anti war protesters abused returning military people. I know I had a few sleeping on my couch at one time or another. If the our founding fathers had been defeated, England would have labled them traitors and terrorists.

mccainisNOTpresidential   August 21st, 2008 9:23 am ET

First to nan, where is ANY proof Senator Obama accepted illegal contributions from Palestine? As usual, I suspect it is an outright LIE taken straight from your keepers Limbaugh and Hannity. I would also like to know how people can not see that McCain is EXACTLY more of the same and will do the country NO good. Also, CNN why aren't you reporting where McCain told a supporter that he does not disagree with her when she said we would need the DRAFT to do all the things he wants to do militarily as President?

bill from pa   August 21st, 2008 9:23 am ET

Ahh, let the mud slinging commence. I can't wait until this nonsense is over. Two years for a presidential campaign is more than to much.

CC Reston VA   August 21st, 2008 9:23 am ET

How is this a negative ad? Barry better get his game on this is no negative ad. McCain is a political crook dealing with Reed as an experienced US Senator I expected more decency from him, Barry is only telling the truth and remember the DNC and most watchdogs had to put pressure on McCain that is why Reed did not attend but still played the game behind the curtain. This is outrageous and Americans deserve what they get from McCain if this warmonger gets into the office.

Get ready to be drafted to fight his wars! And you guys think Bush II was bad? You ain't seen nothing yet. I dare Americans to vote in McCain because our economy will go down and we might as well be fighting those wars. I already have dual citizenship with Canada and I'm moving to Maine if we elect McCain because as soon as the bill for reinstating the draft comes up I'll be in Canada. You guys are crazy and that's what illiteracy does it kills ya.

Dave   August 21st, 2008 9:23 am ET

There is more danger of McCain's continuing to be involved in sleazy deals like letting lobbyists run his office and campaign, letting them write his legislation, more involvement in such sleaze as the Keating 5 and Abrahamoff and other immoral garbage than there is of Professor Bill Ayers ever being involved again in terrorism. McSame's campaign's comments are absurd...as is McSlime's campagn. Get away, wrinkly old man

Kelvin   August 21st, 2008 9:21 am ET

About time the gloves were taken off! Although it seems that McCain will do himself in by selecting a pro-choice VP thereby distancing himself from the far right, he has to tow the line or else and from what we've heard he often refuses to "tow" the line throughout his career and personal life. I seriously doubt they (republicans) will rally behind McCain if he doesn't choose a social conservative and thank goodness for the rest of us. We need a president not a "spiritual leader" like the social conservatives want.

I'm pretty sure that 9/10 senators in congress at some point in time dealt with abramoff.. If I recall correctly there were also a few democrats who got in trouble because of him. The American public won't remember this though, nor will they remember Keating, because the publics memory lasts about 6 months and than all is forgotten. If I remember right though, Obama said less than 6 months ago that he had traveled to 57 states.. boy will everyone remember that one.

CNN is biased   August 21st, 2008 9:21 am ET

Why is it that the comments always start with some lie from a McCain supporter, this whole your comments are being moderated is BS. And when the comments are all negative for McCain, CNN closes comments early, yet when the comments are about Obama, they CNN doesn't close until you have hundreds of comments and many of them are obviously racist, so what is the BS about moderating comments about. Who is accountable....what about the unbiased reporting..from CNN?? yeah right. Lets see if they let this get posted?

I'm a Democrat and currently an Obama supporter. But I think that ad is a bit of a stretch. McCain is linked to Reed and Reed is linked to Abramoff, therefore McCain is linked to Abramoff? I'm not sure the American public will buy off on that.
BUT – I think an ad reminding the public of the Keating 5 and McCain's link to them is entirely fair.

mario   August 21st, 2008 9:20 am ET

I do think Obama needs to hit back on McCain's reprehensible smear and attack campaign. Show McSame for what he really is....another war-mongering, filthy rich (his trophy wife Cindy is worth over 100 million) Republican who is in the pocket of Big Oil and wants to ship all of our remaining jobs overseas, thus continuing the Bush presidency. Oh and I forgot to mention his involvement in the infamous Keating 5 scandal. McCain = Bush = destruction of the U.S.A.

Angel in NV, you're right about the dream. If you think that Hillary stands a chance in 2012 if she and Bill do anything to sabotage Obama's chances and give us 4 more years of a horrible Republican administration, you're dreaming.

All of you Hillary supporters conveniently forget that she ran her campaign $20 million in the RED. Do you think that the Republican smear machine will stand idly by and ignore that little fact? They'll crucify her for it. Wise up!

GM   August 21st, 2008 9:16 am ET

Where are McCains military records?

Why is Gramm still with McCain's campaign?

Where is the ad about "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran"

The Obama campaign does not have to go negative to illustrate these issues because all three are or should be a mater of public record.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   August 21st, 2008 9:15 am ET

Way to stick to the issues Obama. Looks like you're getting desperate. You're going down messiah-boy.

It now appears that the Obama campaign may have conducted covert diplomatic relations with Syria during his worldwide concert tour. Tsk, tsk; if true, that is would be what can euphemistically be called a "felony".

Michelle, PA   August 21st, 2008 9:15 am ET

I'm not a McCain fan, but trying to tie him directly to Abramoff is a stretch. Tying him directly to Ralph Reed is probably far more damaging outside the religious right, for those old and well-informed enough to remember his so-called "Christian Coalition" and the directly related hijacking of the Republican party and rise of the Neocons. For the rest, it may be time for a lesson in modern political history.
Speaking of modern political hisotry, I think it's also time a whole new generation of voters should hear more about a little scandal known as the Keating 5. And when do we hear more about AdulteryGate?

Alice in Florida   August 21st, 2008 9:15 am ET

Oh, PLEASE DO choose Caroline!!!!!!! EVEN CAROLINE is more experienced than you are!!!!! After all, JFK asked for her advice while she was living in the White House, even though she was under 7 years old at the time!

Caroline DID cover up for her cousin's death due to a drug overdose (you CAN get that, can't you? As a "former" cocaine user, OF COURSE, you can!)

Too bad for you that the Kennedy name nowadays conjures up images of a drowning woman, a totally foolish drunk old fat man in his shorts next to his acquited rapist nephew, dead under unusual circumstances movie stars, and even Jackie with that weird smile on her face when Ari died while Teddy Fat Boy was fighting to get Jackie's "rightful inheritence"

Sigh.....Camelot seems so far away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Kennedy name has been tarnished beyond recognition

There NEVER was a Camelot – it was a figment of overdrugged Jackie's imagination – JFK was banging away while Jackie spun stories, painted pictures, and rode horses and spent millions

It was fine, though – they BOTH lived in Fantasyland!!!!!!!

Giving republicans a taste of their own medicine. Who cares if it isn't the full truth, its the Republican way of winning an election. Also McCain started the negative campaigning so he shouldn't be whining about it now. If he would of kept to the issues this never would have happened.

If you're going to keep perpetuating the non-story of Obama's connection to Bill Ayers, at least take the time to get the simple facts straight. Ayers is a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, not the University of Chicago. Indeed this newspaper has reported stories documenting his current standing in Chicago and beyond, which is that he is a respected leader in educational reform; even Mayor Daley has come to his defense. It would be nice to see an even semi-intelligent approach to this situation, instead of painting Ayers as akin to Osama bin Laden, Sadam Hussein, Jack Abramoff, etc. Alas, even Obama refuses to address the issue, which is a shame - he should be proud to know the man.

Afford more of the same? I am a professed Democrat and I do think it is funny that Obama is also contributing to "more of the same" by his negative campaigning tactics. If we are to believe that Obama is so different, maybe he should try and win Americans over by starting with his campaign tactics. This election to me already seems more of the same old politics and we have about 3 more months to go! I will not be voting for Obama! I probably will not vote for anyone! America is in dyer need of a change but these gentlemen are obviously not it!

Phil, Ashburn, VA   August 21st, 2008 9:06 am ET

It's about time. McCain is getting off easy.

xddy4u   August 21st, 2008 9:06 am ET

McCain is acting like a carnival barker that never stops to catch breath. Soliciting the crowd to come see a three headed dog (two of the heads are fake), relying on the analogy of P.T. Barnum, " a sucker is born every second". Look at the crowd at the Saddleback Forum, eating up everything barker McCain was saying. Hoping to get a chance to see the three headed dog.

Bill   August 21st, 2008 9:06 am ET

Good Job Obama!!! You need to do more of this kind of ad if you want to counter the Republican slime machine. The Republicans are making up a lot of stuff now to slime him. It's too back but the Republicans need to understand that if they want a clean fight they need to revise their Karl Rove playbook which they are not doing. Too bad; however, the Dems can't sit back like they did in 2004 with the 'swiftboat' attacks and let the media and the Repubs slam them. In reality this is what the media likes, it increases circulation and viewers which drives up adverstising dollars.

Jason   August 21st, 2008 9:06 am ET

and yet Obama accuses McCain of the same low road tactics and promises "change," thus far in the campaign Obama, you seem just like the rest of them.

Independent voting for McCain   August 21st, 2008 9:06 am ET

This is truly a smear campaign. McCain was in the Senate Committee investigating Jack Abramoff. And that Comittee has DEMOCRATS as well as Republicans. If the committee has some proof, they would have subpoenaed Reed as well. It is ridiculous to claim John McCain somehow prevented Reed from deposition in front of the Committee. What are the Democrats in the Comittee doing then?

If you truly want to bring down a candidate, come up with real scandals. Not insinuations and lies. Let us call Tony Rezko and discuss this over with him.

Generation X   August 21st, 2008 9:05 am ET

Truth hurts, doesn't it, McCain? You've been spewing lies about Obama, even questioning his patriotism, the same tactics you chastised GWB of in your 2000 presidential run. Now, you have gone back to the same tactics in order to win the presidency. Shame on you!

check and checkmate   August 21st, 2008 9:05 am ET

I'm going for McCain, if he gets a moderate VP. His record is a hands across the isle on most social issues. He needs to show moderates like myself that he is infact not tied to the nationistic conservatives, and all the sudo religious, tribe. We get a Demo. majority in Congress to buck heads with the Repuke Pres. and we have a MODERATE state of affairs in DC. After all McCain is a one termer and Barack is the flavor of the year and also and outsider or atleast he says he is?

Hmmm..........

Obama was 5 when Ayers was a member of the Weather Underground. Ayers was tried and acquitted of any chargers.

McShame served with Reed and was in charge of investigating the Abramoff scandal which Reed played an key role and McShame didn't call him to testify. NOW Reed works for McSham. And so does Phil Gramm.

Hardly a good analogy for the McShamers. The only thing they can link Obama to Ayers is that they taught at the University together and they live in the same neighborhood and Ayers donated to Obama's campaign. The question is why would a University hire someone with Ayers as a professor with his background if he is so terrible???

How does Obama have anything to do with Ayers actions taken while he was an infant???

McSham, Same old Washington politician who will do and say anything to get elected.

Annoy the media, Say NO to Obama   August 21st, 2008 9:04 am ET

Face it folks, Obama is no better that the republicans. He will dig for any trash as long as he thinks it may damage McCain. So where's the so called "CHANGE" that Obama is promising. Aquila Wiggins   August 21st, 2008 9:01 am ET

John McCain has hit hard on Barack Obama on his stand on the sucess of the serge in Irac for quite sometime beginning while his was on his overseas tour. Well I only watch CNN for my news, and about 3 Sundays ago Wolfe had a General serving in Irac on his show. He specifically ask him if the serge was responsible for the decline in violence, and that general gave an answer that is exactly what Barack has stated. He gave credit that the serge helped, but listed all of the other reasons just the way Barack Obama has stated them starting with conditions that took place prior to the serge. I have heard nothing about this interview on CNN since the show; so I am keeping CNN honest!

Yes Virginia, there is such a thing as being too old and mean to be President!   August 21st, 2008 8:58 am ET

Wow, look at how unscrupulous this guy is and 45% of Americans want to cast a vote his way. I guess after 8 years of corruption and mismanagement we are still too wedded to our racism and xenophobia to cast a vote for our mutual interest. As Einstein once said; "Only two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity, but they are uncertain about the former."

Ron L   August 21st, 2008 8:58 am ET

To me this issue should not be the running of the ad. The question should be WHY wasn't Ralph Reed called to testify?? The media needs to dig into to this a little more. I don't care what anybody says. Whe you have a many lobbyist working for and with you the way Sen. McCain has IT DOES INFLUENCE YOU.. Why do you think everyone is told to be careful about the company you keep?/ Because eventually whether you want to admit it or not it starts to effect your perspective and actions. Wasn't Senator McCain also involved in the S and L mess in the 80"s?? His plate is not as clean as many people think.

The All-American Scam

More than half of bankruptcies in America are the result of medical bills.

A full 75% of those had health insurance!

In Canada, the UK, Japan and Western Europe, an outcome like this is impossible.

Americans are told they have the best health care system in the world and if they pay thousands of dollars a year for health insurance they'll be protected.
John McSame wants to continue this ho9rrible trend and further cripple our healthcare system by leavign citizens to the Free Markets...

Barbara Campbell   August 21st, 2008 8:54 am ET

Glad to see the Obama campaign exposing McCain. Too bad the mainstream media won't do the same.

S.M   August 21st, 2008 8:54 am ET

McCain is just angry because the ad linking McCain to this individual holds true to form. If McCain didn't call this individual to testify before the senate on illegal activities, than his honesty, integrity, character and moral behavior is in question. As I do recall, the last so called debate between Hillary and Obama; this was brought up by one of the Moderators. Obama was only nine years of age when this individual allegedly was a weather underground leader. You cannot hold a nine year old accountable for someone else's behavior, especially since that indvidual is an adult. You know that McCain is desperate anytime he stoops this low. But than again, this is what to be expected of someone like McCain who voted with Bush 95% of the time.

Otis   August 21st, 2008 8:53 am ET

So much for "Change that we can believe in."

texas   August 21st, 2008 8:53 am ET

Second negative ad in 24 hours? Now that's change I can believe in.

I guess avoiding a negative campaign was just empty words.

Can we not imagine that Obama is just a part of this bent two party system and not very far from the "same old, same old" he wants to separate himself from?

McCant   August 21st, 2008 8:53 am ET

The Obama camp should also be pointing out John McCain's five mansions, his Marie Antonette trophy wife, and how McCain transferred about 8000 jobs from Ohio. John McCain, the job-killer.

And you know what's funny? The Republicants say Barry has no real plan but if you look at the substance of McCain's plans, they don't have anything to stand on, that is, whichever way he stands this week.

Vote John McCain if you don't like jobs.

RYK   August 21st, 2008 8:52 am ET

Obama continues to backpedal, flipflop on everything from drilling for oil to selecting a VP...he has said that he is the candidate of change and that he wants to do things differently and now it looks like he'll bring on Biden for his experience...just shows you that Obama will do anything to win...can't trust this guy!!!

John McCane   August 21st, 2008 8:50 am ET

I am tired of the negative ads in this campaign. Please hit on the real issues at stake for the American public.

By the way, most politicians have skeletons in their closet. Has everyone forgot about Senator McCain's ties to savings and loan scum, Charles Keating? That is a relationship that has never truly been explored. Senator Obama is not immune to equally questionable relationships though.

Cathy   August 21st, 2008 8:49 am ET

I love the suggestion to make Obama the president of America and McCain the president of Iraq. He can run the country of the illegal war that we started.

I also think Barack needs help to stop the stuttering.

Obama 08

JFK   August 21st, 2008 8:49 am ET

Maybe McCain should do a Rezko and Rev Wright ad then since Obama wants to make it personal. Shame on you Obama! You claimed to be different. Same ol' politics...

Sounds like Rogers listens to Hannity to get his ridiculous and deceitful responses.

When Ayers did that stuff in the SIXTIES Obama was 8. McCain on the other hand, was right in the mix of the entire Abramoff/Reed scandal, and part of an even bigger scandal ... the Keating Five.

Caryn   August 21st, 2008 8:48 am ET

Oh, I get it. It's okay for the McCain camp and the RNC to go after Obama with lies and innuendo; but Obama and the Dems can't say anything about McCain! McCain started this whole negative thing (after saying time and time again that he wouldn't) and now that Obama is pushing back it's "ridiculous". Give me a break!

McCain has had it way too easy for too long. The media is afraid to go after him and show his true record. They have had no problem dissecting every word, every vote, every movement of Obama's. Start "vetting" McCain.

larry   August 21st, 2008 8:47 am ET

Obama & supporters keep yelling about McCain going negative. Calling Obama a celeberity and questioning his ability to lead may be technically negative in the sense it is a critique as opposed to a positive comment about what McCain would do, but it is part of civil debate. Obama's ads and comments are downright nasty, clearly misleading, and look and feel like the old style political negative attack ads. Obama attacks McCain as being in the oil industry's pocket for taking $2 million in contribution while he Obama took $1.3 million. I see no "change" in the way Obama is running his campaign. Obama, like many prior politicians, is a raving hypotcrit – and he is increasingly sounding like an angry man.

Obama opened up a can of worms he probably shouldnt have..Wait till the Ayers and Rezko ads start...This is getting good..

Patriot Patrick of Houston   August 21st, 2008 8:45 am ET

After watching the CNN specials Obama and McCain unveiled, I have come to the conclusion that McCain is not fit to lead our country. Even though CNN tried it's very best to sugar coat the fact that McCain basically was a military brat who would rather drink and cat around the bars and women; that documentary only made more clear the stark difference between Senator Obama and McCain.

It is obvious that Obama was born to lead. Born to serve our country. He had to work hard, apply himself. He's tried to do all the right things in his life. At a time when he could have opted for wealth and glamor, he chose public service. His works speak volumes about his character, integrity and his spirit. McCain on the other hand only drank and cheated on his wife until he found a rich benefactor to marry.

Ralph   August 21st, 2008 8:43 am ET

It's funny the media has been so silent regarding McCain's tenure and his shady affiliation with Abramoff and the land scam out west. It appears that the game is, let Obama do the digging and will step in. So much for credibility of our media or are they attempting to stack the deck.

Joe Issano   August 21st, 2008 8:43 am ET

First the Savings and Loan issue(keating), then that other issue and now this...there seems to be an issue with this guy. Add his temper and age, as President, McCain would be a disaster. We are all tired of hearing him say "my friends"......this guy is a joke.

sue   August 21st, 2008 8:42 am ET

if mccain graduated fifth from the bottom, that tells a lot about his intellect, or lack of. after watching "mccain revealed" last night, i came to the conclusion that mccain is obssessed about wars and i think he's itching for wars right now. talking about kicking russia out of G8, and bomb, bomb, bomb iran is a no brainer as to what kind of president he would be if elected.

do you think he really cares about the economy and social security of the country? not, if you have 10 homes and a rich wife.

Jenn   August 21st, 2008 8:42 am ET

I thought Obama was about change not the same old politics?
He should be careful in how is attack McCain, he is already losing ground to him and this kind of ad does nothing to make me want to vote for the agent of change if he's going to campain the same old way.

I hope CNN will now no longer report that the Obama campaign is running a "clean and negative free" one after this one. Charging someone for ties to some questionnable actions isn't so great when you have the same kind of ties to others yourself.

And to the gentleman who wants to vote for Obama but doesn't know what he stands for go to his website where he has hundreds of pages of documents on his policies that have been there over a year. Don't listen to these bloggers, most of them are repuglicans doing their usual dirty tricks. They are pretty desperate and understandably so. I used to be a repuglican for 30 yrs but NEVER AGAIN! You couldn't pay me to vote for mccain. He does not want peace, he is only patriotic when it comes to sacrificing other people's lives.

Lynne   August 21st, 2008 8:39 am ET

This is rich. Now John McCain's camp is squealing "Ridiculous!" after getting a taste of their own brand of attacks from Obama, who has tried to keep the discourse above par throughout the campaign. Let Sean Hannity and his self-righteous, close-minded blowhard friends try and double-talk, twist, and spin their way out of this. Looks like more to come and I'm happy to see Obama FINALLY on the offense.

And as far as the Weather Underground, that's something the Repubs have been harping on for the last several months. Keep grasping, boys!

Marcus Allen   August 21st, 2008 8:39 am ET

WOW,
This add was happening and CNN was asking just yesterday if Obama should think about going negative? Oh yea, I forgot, CNN says only McCain "attacks" so this must be called an informative add...

Alice Newman Center Harbor NH   August 21st, 2008 8:39 am ET

I'm sorry to see that its come to this: But as soon as McCain choose a close pal of Cheney and Rove-clones to run his campaign, McCain forgot his promise to run a clean campaign on the issues ...

So what we got were ads about being a "celebrity" and "The One "... If Obama ignores the ads and takes the high road, the GOP will paint him as weak: if Obama fights back, the GOP paints him as nasty.

McCain decided or allowed himself to be convinced that the only way he could win was by using the old Rove playbook – the same one used against him in 2000 ... and let the negative games begin ...

Pssst .... did you know Obama fathered a black baby??? Whoops – that was used in SC against McCain in 2000 -

K. Somers   August 21st, 2008 8:38 am ET

With all the negative ads McCain has used to chip away at Obama's lead in the polls, I don't understand why it has taken so long for the Obama camp to start their own.

McCain has to deceive and stretch facts for his negative ads, Obama could simply use FACTUAL information to smear McCain. While McCain is throwing everything they can think of at Obama just hoping something will stick, Obama should be pointing out McCains involvement in many scandals throughout 26 years in politics.

McCain is a bold face liar who specializes in pandering to whoever he is talking to at that moment. People need to recognize this.

Canadian Bacon   August 21st, 2008 8:37 am ET

Hey, B.O. is that all you got? a connection to a guy who was implicated in a scandal? I guess in a liberals eyes you are guilty if someone implicates you. It's the seriousness of the charge that counts. but that's only for republicans.
You hung around with and were helped by a known terrorist! You're right. that is change. I haven't heard of any other politicians that were dumb enough to do that. But I could be wrong. there are a lot of dummies in politics.

Ellen in Ohio   August 21st, 2008 8:37 am ET

I guess Obama supporters can't tout that their candidate isn't being negative anymore! Like it or not, this is politics.

Ian   August 21st, 2008 8:37 am ET

What I gathered from this, is that it's ok for McCain to be involved in scandal because Obama is involved in scandal. Good work on voting for these two children everyone.

McCain not calling someone to testify before a council he chairs. I'll admit thats not good. But Obama never even had a meeting of the council he chaired, and thats about Euro relations. Obama just keeps opening doors. The one election that the dems couldnt lose is starting to look like they will.

Minnesota against John McWar   August 21st, 2008 8:36 am ET

McCain National Security Policy: Start wars with Iran, Syria, Korea, China and maybe Russia...and hope for the best.

McCain Economic Policy: Give tax break to the richest and hope they will invest back in US.

McCain Energy Policy: Let the 2 oilmen in the white house drill everywhere and hope for camaign contributions from them.

McCain Health Care Plan: Let the market decide what is best for the patient.

McCain on Family Values: Cheat on your sick wife and marry the younger, prettier millionaire girl.

The Real Maverick: John McCain – voting 95% with Bush and 5% with you.

People make no sense   August 21st, 2008 8:35 am ET

McWar spent his military years being beaten, tortured and spilling his guts about America. They pampered him compared to the other soldiers because of who his father was. He has no credibility on war. What is he going to teach everybody how to get captured? What a loser he is? Look Semper fi when they beat you turn to the side like this and it hurts less. That's his idea of winning a war. What a loser! And so many dumb people worship this guy. Usually when you are good at something you excel in that area. How is being a prisoner excelling? If that is the case our prisons have a lot of experts. I'd elect one of them before electing McBush II.

People make no sense   August 21st, 2008 8:35 am ET

McWar needs to explain how he was dumb enough to get caught early in his military career, and spent a long war not fighting but being held captive. Wow what a hero. No guns blazing – shoot your way out of anything – defend America. Just tortured spilling your guts against America. Through diplomatic means, and his father power he was allowed to live. It's laughable that people consider him a hero and strong on war. He spent his time in captivity during war. Is that what he plans to teach us? He was flying a plane he was too dumb to know how to fly and got shot down. Maybe if he wasn't a C student he would have been able to learn the technics to manuever out of position and not get shot down. My grandfather flew endless hours fighting in the same war and he came back a *Real American Hero*.

The Truth Hurts and there is much more to come VIA CINDY MCCAIN AND THE MOB !

Casey - Frederick,MD   August 21st, 2008 8:35 am ET

FINALLY - some "truth" is coming out about McCain's "experience"! How about the real scandal, the Keating-5. It will show voters that McCain is one of those problem politicians and show what is wrong with Congress. WIth all of McCain's "experience" why doesn't he show more accomplishments for his time in Washington? McCain is making all sorts of promises; my question: Why didn't he already enact those changes with all of his "experience"?!?

IF VOTERS WANT WASHINGTON TO CHANGE, VOTERS NEED TO VOTE FOR SOMEONE NEW EVERY ELECTION!!

All the comments lambasting "lack of experience" is really from those in Washington who want to keep the status quo.

Journalists: Why are you letting candidates do your background work on other candidates? Why aren't YOU checking into these candidates' past and asking questions?!? Stop rehashing the "Obama is about to make his VP choice" stories, and start some REAL journalism!!

John McCain has pulled every dirty page out of Karl Rove's infamous playbook and this once honorable man is about as greasy and underhanded as they come. He is totally unrecognizable to the John McCain of 2000.

If it takes dirty politics and say and do anything to win an election, then John, you will come out on top. The Maverick has now morphed into a Muckracker, to the detriment of our country he claims to love so much.

Why don't you say more about the draft that you are in favor of, huh, John?

There are "negative ads" and there are "outright slander ads". This one while negative is true. But the ads I have been seeing from McCain have been "baseless" and "outright lies" in ad format.

So if someone has a complaint about bad political ads, I would start with the ones that are outright lies. This isn't one of them.

Catherine   August 21st, 2008 8:27 am ET

It sounds like Obama is becoming a Hillary- running negative campaigns....if he is not playing the race card.

I can't see how McCain can be linked to this is a significant way. If you are an important Republican person potentially running for the president, you pick the person who can raise money. He was on the Senate panel and people get busy, skipped an invitation, etc. This cannot imply that he is involved.

Nice try, Barack

And, it seems that the Democratic party continues to nominate these useless people.

c-span junkie   August 21st, 2008 8:26 am ET

Well, well Barack has finally shown that he is just another politician. I say now he is nolonger the the presumtive President, and the muck and slim will really fly. One of his problems is this he still has his past riding on his back and we all know he is a product of triangleating and a sleezy circle of friends. As a Democrate that will go Independent after this election the best candidate HILLARY CLINTON, was run off the road by the angelic and saintly Obama crowd with a big helping of the press to slim her well vetted Senate track record, which by the way is mainstream and what we needed. Barack parrots her and pretends it was his. The two things that I would like McCain to do for my vote is 1st. choose a Tom Ridge as a VP, and 2nd get the legislation to increase taxes on the wealthy because they have benefited greatly while sacrificing nothing for this war and the Bush Agenda.

McCain/Ridge 08 :-)

Clinton 2012 :-) ;-)

Milton, Harrisburg, PA   August 21st, 2008 8:26 am ET

Let's not forget the "Keating Five" either if we are throwing around despicable buddies. If McCain isn't wallowing with crooks, he has at least accumulated some of their stink.

Mike   August 21st, 2008 8:25 am ET

Perfect, let's bring out the truth about these two McCains. I can not even imagine what would happen to this country if McCain is elected President of the United States. Why can't these Americans understand what is their reputation in the world. If McCain is elected, there is a 100% chance of us getting into an unnecessary war either with Russia or with Iran.

McCain is dangerous for this country and Americans better realise that.

The fact that Ralph Reed is still welcome at any party's functions is puke! He lied to Christians, cheated Indians, and comes out a choir boy? Why... why is it that Washington and the negativity of the political process always has to come and turn something truly positive, to something potentially negative. Barak, stop listening to the media and political critics. Keep running your campaign positively and let them read the meaningless polls day in and day out. These polls don't represent your base, we will be there for you casting our vote come November.

Dan, Weymouth, MA   August 21st, 2008 8:22 am ET

I'm just glad these two are keeping their promise to not go negative.

lucy   August 21st, 2008 8:22 am ET

sooner or later, we are all going to figure out that mccain is following the same strategies of extreme dishonnesty that have characterized the republican administration for the last four years. if he is willing to pander to these people as an experienced senator, and to lie about obama's position on issues, it will be more of the same if he is elected. he did not hold a position of leadership in the military and while we all admire his behavior as prisoner of war, that doesn't qualify him to be anything. obama knew some of these people as a young man. mccain has held on to them as a senator with 26 years of experience. sometimes experience is not a good thing, when the person in queesstion refuses to adapt to changing circumstances. we cannot just bomb-iran anymore, the surge has left us with no military reserves.

Pat   August 21st, 2008 8:20 am ET

McCain is all ready showing all the signs of Alzhiemers. Aside from that he's no hero either. He was all to willing to give aid to the enemy during his time in Viet Nam but the presstitutes manage oh so cleverly to keep that out of the news.
Were McCain to become president through the usual republican chicanery than he will put the LAST NAIL in the coffin of the US make no mistake about it!!
At this point in history he is the LAST person that should get his hands on the White House. An ex-soldier who supposedly was tortured and he thinks torture is o.k.? Think about it. Is THIS what you want the US to be famous for?

Gretchen   August 21st, 2008 8:20 am ET

Having a address in Washington for a long time doesn't mean you always have expierence, it means you have connections. McCain just like Bush will take care of all the fat cats on Wall Street.

where's the info on McCain saying that we were victorious in Iraq yet he complains that Obama wants to bring the troops home without regard to winning the war? which is it...did we win or didn't we? Does he know? does he have a clue?

Where's the info about the defense dept essentially backing Obama's strategy for Afghanistan?

When are we going to get unbiased reporting?

Kim   August 21st, 2008 8:16 am ET

Sounds like someone is getting a little desparate. Be careful Obama people. There is alot that has not come out yet on the chosen one.

McCain is a crook

The Bush Twins : George and John   August 21st, 2008 8:16 am ET

I just did a little research on the relationship of Bill Ayers and Sen. Obama. Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill !. No, let's call it grasping at straws. McBush and his bandits have nothing on Sen. Obama. Don't take my word for it, look it up for yourselves. Much ado about nothing.

Just goes to show, once again, he'll say ANYTHING to get elected

New Yorker   August 21st, 2008 8:15 am ET

That is a cheap ad, Barak Obama. Really cheap! Keep it positive and issue based. We have had enough of the negative stuff ! If you want to be the kind of president who is above partisan politics, you need to focus more on the real issues. This ad seems to stem out of some kind of desparation. I am not a republican, but I hate these kind of gimmicks. Let us move on to real life issues.

laxraddad   August 21st, 2008 8:15 am ET

If you want your children and grandchildren to be drafted in the military to go to war with Iran and Russia and whoever else pisses McCain off then vote for him.

He will institute a new military draft. He was the biggest pusher for the war in Iraq and wants to go to war with Iran and Russia.

Vote for McCain and kiss your children and grandchildren goodbye as they ship off to war.

melv   August 21st, 2008 8:14 am ET

It is bad how the news media have jump on Obama, they
are helpinf McCain get ahead. Why can't you all be fair but
there is no fairness when you do not want him in office

Choose Hillary?!! When you choose Hillary, you choose Bill. Don't let short term expediency drive out long term effectiveness, Mr. Obama.
The Clintons have had their shot; make this campaign and election yours. Biden is your man.

Talk about playing the same old games. This ad should underscore that the democrats who voted for Obama in the primaries with stars in their eyes about a "new kind of candidate" we bamboozled by a bunch of hype. I have been a lifelong Democrat who will be sitting this election out. I think Obama is a con man who is interested in his own best interests when he should be focusing on the best interests of the nation.

Dirty, dirty, dirty Obama. Look to your own backyard and clean it up before you accuse anyone else. You and Michelle have much more to answer for. Unpatriotic is the least of them.

Of course, this will not be printed, but the word is getting out.

Tony   August 21st, 2008 8:11 am ET

So true. JOhn McCain CANNOT be trusted anymore than Bush or Cheney, buit since Americans are so apathetic, ignorant, lazy and whiny, I fear it will be too late by the time they figure it out, just like with Bush!

One word...REZKO!

Kevin   August 21st, 2008 8:11 am ET

I had hoped Obama wouldn't go negative. But sometimes you gotta fight fire with fire. John Kerry would be president if he had. Smart. Risky, but smart.... I hope

WDRussell   August 21st, 2008 8:10 am ET

Since the righters want to talk about what Obama did when he was 8 years old, then this should be open to discussion also.

Bob   August 21st, 2008 8:10 am ET

Here we go again!! First, McCain begins to smear Obama, and now that the Obama lead has disintegrated, Obama retaliates with the Abramoff story. When will the politicians begin taking the high road and staying on it? Maybe there isn't one!! Maybe to be a politician in this country you have to resort to these kind of tactics. If so, change in human behavior may only be window coating; everything remains the same. Very bad, and very dangerous for our country.

Bob

Broad street buddy   August 21st, 2008 8:10 am ET

Awesome!! Its about time McCain's dirty deeds come to light. It was obvious that the mainstream media including CNN did not want to report on it.

Why not talk about the Keating 5? If judgment is the hot topic this election, doesn't that show judgment?

Felicia   August 21st, 2008 8:10 am ET

Obama is becoming desperate! He is on his way to sinking his entire campaign!

J.S.   August 21st, 2008 8:09 am ET

Up next the Keating Five, another reason why McCain should not be elected! Imagine what he will do for the economy after reading about the Keating Five!! GWB bankrupted several companies and is doing the same to our country. We don't need another BUSH in office!!!

Bill Beatty   August 21st, 2008 8:07 am ET

Matthew   August 21st, 2008 8:07 am ET

Sadly, Obama has connections to the Abramoff scandal as well.

Funny, I don't see CNN mentioning that.

DJ   August 21st, 2008 8:06 am ET

Ralph Reed is disgusting, if for no other reason than his longstanding relationship to and leadership of the despicable christian right movement in this country. Those people have done more damage than can be undone in a generation. John McCain ought to be ashamed of himself. Of course, he's not. And that's why I'm voting for Obama.

And as for the Weather Underground affiliation, so freakin' what? A black guy in Chicago who grew up in his time who WASN'T hanging with those guys wasn't doing his job.

John in Lincoln   August 21st, 2008 8:05 am ET

Bararack Obama better get control over his own campaign or this thing will be over before it starts. You can not pledge to run a campaign on the issues to show that you are truly an agent of change on the one hand and then run these types of poltics as usual ads on the other.

This is especially troublesome because it attempts to link McCain to a situation where no accusations against him have ever been made. These ads are hoping to make the other party look guilty purely based on perception rather than any facts.

Need to be better than this.

The Bush Twins : George and John   August 21st, 2008 8:05 am ET

EBC   August 21st, 2008 7:59 am ET

McCain is a TRUE LIAR and MANIPULATOR. His "McCain Revealed" showed just how LOW this man would stoop.

He was "cheating on his wife with "Barbie Doll Cindy" AND filed for a marriage license WHILE STILL BEING MARRIED to his other wife. He LEFT his wife after she suffered a serious accident and ran into Cindy's arms after he came back from Vietnam.

NOW, if John McCain wants to tout his "honorability" then he should have DONE the right thing when it came to what he claims was his biggest "moral failings". DO you think his wife would have left him if the tables were turned? NO she would have stuck by him for better or worse.

John McCain has done nothing but "lied and manipulate" his positions NOW that he's running for President. There's NO Maverick, there's NO "Straight Talk Express".

What there is is a Republican Candidate that has become nothing but a typical "Washington Politician" who will LIE, CHEAT, DISHONOR, MANIPULATE and DISTORT, his position anytime and EVERY TIME.

John McCain has sold his soul to the "DEVIL" and it shows in his past judgements and his present judgments. Just yesterday at one of his "town hall" meetings, a woman quoted him about searching for the "evil" Bin Laden till the end of the earth. A woman asked him, in order for him to do that he would have to re-institute the DRAFT. He DID NOT answer the question but dicked and dodged around it by saying "I agree with everything you said and I thank you for saying so.

What? John McCain is ALL about sending YOUR SONS and DAUGHTERS, BROTHERS, SISTERS, AUNTS, UNCLES, FATHERS and MOTHERS into harms way with another WAR!!!

So if you want more DEATHS in your family because of a "war mongering" President, then VOTE for McBush. Because that's exactly WHAT you will get and MORE.

I wouldn't VOTE for this selfish "WAR MONGERING" Old man if he was the LAST MAN on earth.

Robert   August 21st, 2008 7:59 am ET

This is a prime example of John McCain's dirty political past that matches his connections with big Oil and why will be continuing to follow Bush's failed politics going forward.
Now we should all be able to understand how he could commit Adultery and leave his faithful first wife. It also explains his lies and attacks on Obama...this man is just a plain dirty old politician that we need to get out of office.

WIlly   August 21st, 2008 7:57 am ET

BHO Grabbing for straws. Won't work Mr. Change.

Mark   August 21st, 2008 7:57 am ET

Oooo!!! Getting desperate are we. Guess what? Congratulations Obama you have just became a typical politician. Not a man of hope, but a typical politician. Basically a Clinton or Rove like commercial. Welcome aboard!

Norah (Boston, MA)   August 21st, 2008 7:57 am ET

How many scandals has McCain been involved in? I really didn't know much about this man until this year and the information out there is scary.
McCain is scary, if even a fraction of the online information is true.

Rob   August 21st, 2008 7:57 am ET

Obama is reaching for straws.. he is going down.

McCain 08/Hillary 12

Marcelo   August 21st, 2008 7:57 am ET

Finally, the facts about McCain are being exposed. I noticed that CNN's McCain revealed report didn't mention his involvement in the Keating Five. Interesting that CNN would have missed that...

Marie   August 21st, 2008 7:56 am ET

Let's see the ad. All McCain's controversal ads were played over and over again. Which in turn, helped the McCain camp tear down Senator Obama. CNN be fair, what gets ratings and results for one candidate should do the same for the other. Either way CNN's bottom line benefits.

Toby   August 21st, 2008 7:53 am ET

Finally! Perhaps they'll even bring up McCain's recent comment supporting a draft. No, that would be too not nice for Democrats.

Walt, Belton,TX   August 21st, 2008 7:53 am ET

Guess the gloves really come off. Who else wants to hear more about how the Obama's got their sweetheart loan on the house they bought for a ridiculous price? Just who does actually own Obama?

Marco   August 21st, 2008 7:51 am ET

Forget abrahmov, what about McCAIN'S INVOLVEMENR WITH the savings and loan scandal in the early 19080's? Why iusn't anybody talking about that?
Come on CNN, where's your investigative prowess on that one?

Mark VA   August 21st, 2008 7:50 am ET

OK Obama, if you want to throw stones, does the name Rezko mean anything to you. Doesn't matter if it is true or not it looks dirty. That is the same premise you are going on with this ad.

The Bu   August 21st, 2008 7:49 am ET

See, there's a difference between having NEGATIVE ads, such as that foolishness John McCain put out, and having a negative ad linking the nominee to someone who has done illegal activity. Now, I know the Republicans are going to bring up Rezco or the guy from Weather Underground. It's all good, cause Obama didn't do anything illegal with these guys. There IS a difference.

Bill   August 21st, 2008 7:48 am ET

The more I hear about Obama and McCain, the more I wish Hillary Clinton was still running. Her only fault is being naive and dumb enough for staying married to the ex-president. Her loyalty is certainly not in question. I feel both Obama and McCain's loyalty to the American People, not their patriotism, their loyalty is a serious issue.

I feel their interests are more for big business and qustionable organizations that can hurt our country.

WE NEED A THIRD PARTY FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

george   August 21st, 2008 7:47 am ET

RW   August 21st, 2008 7:47 am ET

This is bad!!! I dont think people will like this that too from a guy who wants change but playing to the GOP tricks!!!! GOP is making Obama to go this low & cheap !!! Obama is proving that he is from the same old political school that will do anything to get elected !!! Very disappointing...

dk   August 21st, 2008 7:46 am ET

The McCain campaign and Republicans in general have never resisted a chance to drop the names Ayers and Rezko but heaven forbid you turn around and use the same tactics on them. Sounds like someone is getting their Depends in an uproar. Just remember the commandment, "Do unto others..."

kjnewman   August 21st, 2008 7:45 am ET

Bully for Barack! It's about time these Republican smear merchants got a taste of their own medicine.
What about McCain and the Keating scandal? His less than stellar Navy career before he was shot down? His admitted adultery? His hot temper that at times triggers irrational behavior? The fact that he's flip-flopped so much on the issues just to pander for votes? He' s got the same frat-boy mentality that Bush has. We don't need 4 more years of another egomaniac trying to prove something..
Oh and did I mention he's OLD!

JW Mathews   August 21st, 2008 7:43 am ET

Uh, John, why don't you tell us about ancient history? The "Keating Five". Sure, it's 20 years ago, but hey, what's 20 years?

Erich   August 21st, 2008 7:43 am ET

So much for Obama running a clean campaign. I'm quite dissapointed to find that his campaign is just like any other in a political season. This is pretty ridiculous in my opinion. Is this really talking about issues as Obama has always said he wants to do? I have to say I was really hoping Obama would stick to his word about sticking to the issues.

PUMA PRIDE   August 21st, 2008 7:43 am ET

I'm starting to think McCain can't be trusted. I watched the CNN special last night. Just how many affairs did he have on his wife? I thought it was just with Cindy but was clearly many many more. He also clearly lied about the timing between breaking up with his wife and dating Cindy because when he was asked about that specifically he just got all uncomfortable and said "I am currently happily married" or something evasive like that.

Vet in S.A.   August 21st, 2008 7:41 am ET

William Ayers is just one of Obama's questionable affiliates. He better be careful on what kind of ads he wants to run.

Richard   August 21st, 2008 7:39 am ET

Since CNN is pro Barack HUSSEIN Obama you only post anti-Hillary and anti-McCain articles. If there is anything good about Hillary or McCain you only list very few comments. But come arrogant, anti -American Barack Hussein Obama and its you are obssessed with him.

CNN and Barack HUSSEIN Obama make me sick!!!!!!!!!!!

Walter Greason   August 21st, 2008 7:38 am ET

The next three weeks are a crucial phase of the campaign now that McCain has taken the lead in some polls.

Linking McCain to Bush and Abramoff may be necessary for the Democrats, but it will not be enough to convince most undecided voters to choose their candidate.

Barack Obama needs a decisive message showing his commitment to cut taxes for homeowners and small business owners as well as his mainstream commitments to marriage, patriotic education, military triumphs abroad, and the church as the core of his pursuit of equality.

Ralph Reed is a recognized domestic terrorist. Any Christard who promulgates the heretical ideology of hell in opposition to the doctrine of sheol understands neither. When you preach in favoring the belief of a hell, you're spreading fear and terror. Just like any other good terrorist. Ralph Reed (aka Richard Rank) exemplifies the self-righteous bent of the New Right. Now if we could only get a day's honest labor out of him...

proud army and navy mom   August 21st, 2008 7:35 am ET

Send a message to Washington, vote for and write in the only real Presidential candidate- RON PAUL

PS- cant wait until St. Paul... hope the media covers the real convention at the Target Center, you think they would since the are in the bag for Obama and would want to point out the GOP's slow death...

robert ga   August 21st, 2008 7:32 am ET

Let face it America love negative ads. we look for reason why not to vote for a candidate as opposed to reasons to vote for them. Hence Obama can claim new age politician all he wants , but the truth is when it comes down to actually voting, Americans only remember the bad things about a candidate.

So what other choice do the candidates have but to go negative. lets see what will stick and vote as we normally do.

For America.

Mongo   August 21st, 2008 7:32 am ET

Why is there so little mention of the "Keating 5 " Savings and Loan disaster and McCain's involvement? Also, his affair with Cindy McCain while he was still married with three children?
The Republicans portray him as a Knight in Shining Armor for his Vietnam imprisonment. He deserves those accolades but he remains a flawed character in many ways in my opinion.

james395   August 21st, 2008 6:28 am ET

For a very long long time i have never seen such a dirty political campaign for the American Presidency than that by Barack Obama.therefore i find it questionable is Obama fit to be President?

Biodun   August 21st, 2008 6:26 am ET

This ad is too mild. They should go after McCain's mililary record of successive failures... his cheating on his wife when he came back from the war... his ties to big oil and big businesses... his ties to George Bush... his many homes all over America – at a time Americans are having their homes repossessed... the list is endless. The Obama campaign cannot afford to pull punches because Americans seem to make their decisions based not on serious issues or high principles but on the largest amount of dirt the other party can raise...

Facts:

Every pound per square inch of tire under-inflation wastes 4 million gallons of gas daily in the U.S." Survey information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that 27% of the cars on the road have a significantly under-inflated tire.

Proper tire inflation and engine maintenance would save1.7 million barrels of oil per day

The Bush administration estimates that expanded offshore drilling could increase oil production by 200,000 barrels per day by 2030

America would not see an effect on oil prices until that time.

America could have as much as 89.9 billion barrels of oil off shore.

America uses 7.5 billion barrels of oil a year.

That adds up to around 11 year’s worth of oil.

89.9 billion barrels would equal to 1% of our demand by that time.

Much of that oil may be non recoverable, or unfeasible to recover.

A moderate estimate of recoverable oil shale in the United States is 800 billion barrels.

Per pound, oil shale contains one-tenth the energy of crude oil.

40% of the energy gained from oil shale is consumed in the production.

Production of oil shale would require staggering amounts of water and electricity

2,400 megawatts of power for commercial production of 200,000 barrels of shale oil per day, America uses 200,000 barrels of oil every 7 minutes.

Oil shale produces between 37.5 and 40.8 grams of carbon equivalent per unit of delivered energy, compared to an average of 25 grams of carbon equivalent for conventional fuels.

If every American home replaced just one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulb, we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year, more than $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars.
Just some things John McCain and his big energy supporters doesn’t want you to know.

First – this is the politics of change?? They are running so scared right now. Second, ever heard of TONY REZKO, BILL AYERS, please Obama, catch a clue. The glitter has worn off and the people are seeing you for what you are...another ultra-liberal socialist.

Confused Voter in Alaska   August 21st, 2008 5:37 am ET

All I can say is both of these men are questionable. They both have skeletons in the closets. Both parties smear. I am a registered Democrat but I have been know to swing the other (Republican) way. Obama should pick Clinton and McCain should pick Mitt...God help us all...

Ray Ito   August 21st, 2008 5:30 am ET

What new thing does America think she can get from McCain?

Donald Rumsfeld will likely be McCain's Secretary of the Treasury.

Karl Rove is his Chief of Staff.

Same old old folks.

Foreign observer   August 21st, 2008 5:24 am ET

He has to do so because Americans are so blind towards Mc Caine.

Foreign observer   August 21st, 2008 5:13 am ET

Finally Obama learns that not every opponent can be handeled via bridge building. That´s not old politics – that´s life.

Stephen   August 21st, 2008 5:13 am ET

The question now is, will Barack Obama immediately call on the University of Illinois to release all of the records they are currently withholding to shed further light on Senator Obama's relationship with this unrepentant terrorist???????????????

joey   August 21st, 2008 5:09 am ET

Oh please. You Dem's try as hard as you can. You won't discredit McCain. He is a honest man that will not, nor never take the low road. Obama cares about one thing, and one thing only.... Please...Look at his wife....Need i say more. Be really careful who u vote for. think very hard. Don't just jump on the band wagon. Think of are country..... McCain is in no way perfect. But he's a lot better than some newbie coming on the seen. One November 4, do the right thing. In your hart. vote the right way.......

Lynn   August 21st, 2008 5:03 am ET

With Obama's "friends" – Ralph Reed means nothing.

Foreign observer   August 21st, 2008 5:02 am ET

Being in politics the dirt will stick at you. Being a long time in politics a lot of dirt will stick.

aliou FL   August 21st, 2008 4:31 am ET

More than the Ebermoff scandals, John McCain is a liar who lied to his new fling about his age and applied to marry her while still married.

The wife in question is a drug addict and a thief. Stealing from the poor in her own charity? She doesn't deserve to be first lady. Period.

Resolved QuestionShow me another »
Is Cindy McCain still a theif and drug addict???
is she??from nypost:

In 1989, Cindy McCain became addicted to opioid painkillers such as Percocet and Vicodin, which she initially took to alleviate pain following two spinal surgeries for ruptured discs and to ease emotional stress during the Keating Five scandal, which involved her as a bookkeeper who had difficulty finding receipts. The addiction progressed to where she resorted to stealing drugs from her own AVMT. During 1992, Tom Gosinski, the director of government and international affairs for AVMT, discovered her drug theft

she is a disgraceful woman for having an affair with a married man. McCain's wife was crippled at the time. Shameful!! I do not want a former thief and drug addict as the first lady. Especially one who didn't have to steal. She is a millionairess..correct?

If Michelle Obama is fair game so is Cindy.

Cindy looks as if has had too many operations on her face, too much bleach, too much unsuitable make-up. It all comes off badly.
How do we know the baby she said Mother Teresa asked her to adopt was not stolen? They are used to breaking all rules and getting what they want however they can get it. The law is not a problem for this pair of crooks.

She resembles a 70-year old trying desperately to look 40, and the effect is rather grotesque.

Palin for America   August 21st, 2008 4:09 am ET

Barack Obama is more of the same old style Washington politics.

Old lizard thought he'd get away with it .
Nice!

VLK   August 21st, 2008 3:58 am ET

Obama is a very large crook himself. Oh of course he never took favors. There are more sleazy deals between Obama and his cohorts than John McCain could ever find. This guy is a total fraud. If he gets elected, be prepared to see a war in our country, which, by the way, won't be our country much longer.

jFA   August 21st, 2008 3:56 am ET

In the latest jFA Nationwide Poll of Polls John McCain LEADS Barack Obama in the BIGGER DORK competing for the presidency.

Kevin   August 21st, 2008 3:49 am ET

It's Obama who is playing the same old politics here. He has now opened the floodgates for right wingers to bring up and intensify scrutiny over Ayers,Wright and Obama's shady Chicago political past.

dtk   August 21st, 2008 3:34 am ET

Oh,please give me a brake. Mr. so called spokesman who are you terrifying? I guess you are running the same old politics, ha?.

VON BISMARK,Vienna.   August 21st, 2008 3:25 am ET

Hit'em HARD! But always rely on the trurh.Truth is not powerless.

Freddy Bartholomew   August 21st, 2008 3:00 am ET

Good on you, Obama! Time to come out swinging. Show the Republiscum they don't have a monopoly on slime.

Tony   August 21st, 2008 2:39 am ET

So much for taking the highroad, and not going negative.

Same old politics as usual. I guess change was too much to hope for.

Speider   August 21st, 2008 2:32 am ET

While no one candidate is the messiah for our sinking nation, perhaps it is time for Senator Obama to take off the gloves when it comes to playing the political game. Certainly the republicans will pull out all stops and the democrats, who have long been ineffectual and gun-shy when it comes to allowing the rape of our country and murder of the constitution, should flair their nostrils and imitate the tiger (with apologies to W. Shakespeare).

There is precious little time to reverse our present course of self-destruction and little doubt that it will take several terms of care and nurturing to bring about a stable and growing economy. Let the truth be told about Senator McCain's record as a politician without the pity for his war record, which was suffered by a million more men and women who are also no better suited to lead this country and the world.

In the light of day, without fear-mongering and saber-rattling, Senator McCain will be seen for what he is; a weak leader with the inability to untangle our economy or bring us together as one nation.

Dylan Los Angeles   August 21st, 2008 2:31 am ET

Obama campaign can do better than that for an attack ad.

How about the Keating 5 scandal and McCain's frequent trips to resorts paid for by Keating for starters.

joey d   August 21st, 2008 2:27 am ET

obama 08

angel in NV   August 21st, 2008 2:19 am ET

MCCAIN/CLINTON 08!!! Yeah BABY!!! The Dream lives on.

Jeff O   August 21st, 2008 2:18 am ET

Bill Ayers is not a professor at the University of Chicago – he's a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The McCain camp might want to check their facts better before making any statements.

angel in NV   August 21st, 2008 2:18 am ET

SAME OL' POLITICS!!! CHANGE HA!!! MCCAIN ALL THE WAY

Mark Billingsley   August 21st, 2008 2:16 am ET

Wait until we bring up the Keating 5 scandal and how McPain and Cindi narrowly avoided jail time. Boy, if I make a serious ethical lapse in my job i hope I get judged by my buddies and they are the ones to hand down my "punishment." It was only after McPain was involved with the worst swindle in American history that he became this "maverick" (gag, choke, cough) and went after political corruption as if he was the new sheriff in town. I wonder what he'd be doing if he hadn't been caught red-handed taken bribes from Charles Keating?

nan   August 21st, 2008 2:15 am ET

...and? obama's campaign accepts illegal contributions from Palenstine..

So?

Even I guess
