Obama: I've decided

Obama says he has made up his mind.
Obama says he has made up his mind.

(CNN) - The political world may not yet know who the next Democratic vice presidential candidate will be, but Barack Obama does.

The Illinois senator told USA Today Thursday he has made up his mind on who he will ask to join him on the Democratic presidential ticket.

"Yes," Obama said matter-of-factly when asked if the decision had been made.

But Obama refused to say whether the newly-minted Democratic VP had been informed yet. "I won't comment on anything else until I introduce our running mate to the world," he said. "That's all you're going to get out of me."

Obama is expected to appear at a rally with his running mate in Springfield, Illinois Saturday. It remains unclear just when the campaign will announce the VP choice via text message.

UPDATE: CNN's Chris Welch reports Barack Obama confirmed to reporters in Virginia he has made up his mind.

“I did say that I've made the selection and that's all you're going to get," Obama said.

Watch: "I've made the selection," Obama says

WHO CARES???? Obama will never win – he is NOT qualified.
Maybe he should pick Rev. Wright – a good choice!
Obama is far too radical to lead our country – and did I mention his questionable background??

If Hillary is the VP choice, then I'm voting for McCain.

I'd rather have McCain in the White House than have Hillary anywhere near it.

How's that PUMA people? I learned to play your little game!

I think Hugo Chavez is a sure bet. He would appeal to moderate Republicans and independents.

Clinton might ensure a win but another solid prospect that will work for the votes will also get him in the WH. It just might be a tougher road.

Wow the anticipation is making me crazy- every text message I get I am thinking its the VP announcement...I really hope he comes out with it tonight, I don't think I can stand waiting for Saturday! LOL
I am hoping for Biden....but who knows it may just be Hillary- I just want to know who it is so we can get this show on the road and his Poll Numbers can take the necessary leap after weeks of dropping.

This is brilliant. Obama has had the media tied in knots, guessing and tripping time on end. This is very good. Suspense and anticipation work miracles. Now everyone, except those on Obama's text list, will not know until the VP appears in Springfield. The text buddies will have a few hours-leg up!!!

We know he won't get anyone that interesting – definitely not a woman.

Has to be a decent-looking white male, just like always. Apparently this country is at a place where a half-black half-white man is already a little too much change for comfort – notice the poll numbers? Sigh. I thought better of us.

Erik if Obama is a smart as he says he is and wants 18 million more votes he better pick Hillary. If he doesn't that it's a risk at winning this race against the corrupt Teflon John.

He told the AP that he has chosen “…someone who is independent and would challenge him in the White House.”

    "Independant"?

    "Challenge"?

Oh God... it's going to be Bayh. Dang-it.

Obama, please do not praise McCain first and then counter attack. You need to attack without praise. McCain, it seems that you got it made, several homes and property. Why are you running for President? Is it a personal ambition? I would just retire if I were you. And McCain, stop using your POW experience as a qualification to be commander in chief or hiding behind your POW experience every time Obama gets testy. That happened decades ago and this is now. times have changed. Move on.

I wish that Vegas had a line on who would be the VP pick.
My money would be on Biden. They I consider Gore a darkhorse.

I would certainly be betting on Hillary.

I hope its someone winnable so they could save the world from McCain. He has a psychology of war in his veins. He will put the world in grave danger. He makes no excuses for being a warmonger.
