I disagree.....if the ONE Campaign spends 2 million on an ad campaign to bring attention to Africa, and people see this add and act on it by writing letters to their officials, (which is a huge thing with the ONE campaign), joining the peace core, donating food etc etc. Awareness and action is the end goal of this campaign, not just money.

Besides, if you just handed the two million dollars over to Africans....what's to keep the corrupt dictators from just taking it anyway...right?

What about Saudi Arabia (practically on Africa's doorstep) total government foreign humanitarian aid (documented) less than $100,000 USD.....
I'm not opposed to the ad-I am opposed to the notion that we aren't already giving–against our will from our government–despite what we may be donating individually. And I still maintain, dear Sifa–other western nations, industrialized nations–aren't exactly running over there with a checkbook.

meanwhile, our spending on "healthcare" (medicare) is the biggest culprit in the 53 trillion dollars of debt/liability our country has. medicare will bankrupt us in about 20 years. public health spending is the 2 ton gorilla in terms of contributors to our debt, nothing else comes close, not even #2 the dismal failure of social security.

Funny, I heard MANY top economists say that, if you're under $250k/year, you'll be just fine under Obama's plan. I guess those degrees they got are just decoration after all.

Our concern is that the lions' percentage of funding and humanitarian aid received from the increased exposure will end up the pockets of administrative bureacrats and siphoned off by corrupt dictators and tyrants of poverty stricken countries. Better to give them the 2 million dollars and see how it gets used.

Having said that, I do agree with those of you who said that we need to fix our problems here at home. From the war in Iraq, to all the activities we have our hands tied to, we can change a lot in America. Health care, schools, our economy, ect. So, hope the new gov. will focuse more on problems here ate home, before embarking billions of dollars overseas and ignore all the sufferings going in our back yards.
