Powder, threatening letter sent to McCain office

(CNN) - Federal and local officials are on the scene of a threatening letter with white powder received at John McCain’s regional campaign office outside Denver, in suburban Englewood, Colorado.

At 3 p.m. MT, a staffer in the McCain Denver office opened a letter containing a threatening letter and a quantity of white powder," McCain Spokesman Jeff Sadosky told CNN's Justine Redman. "Staff immediately contacted local and federal law enforcement. Staff are taking all necessary precautions, including checking in with medical professionals"

“Agents and Officers are responding," United States Secret Service Spokesman Malcolm Wiley who is in Denver also tells CNN's Jim Spellman.

Be careful Mccain, men that try to act tough are as soft as a baby's bottom.

Come on now, be nice. No need to threaten his life and get tossed in jail. God will be striking him down any day now, for the unethical lies, pandering, and dirty character attacks he's engaged in lately. He is a pathetic example of someone completely selling out his principals in pursuit of an office he has no business holding after what he has done in his career.

Okay, while I won't be voting for JM, I hope the country doesn't stoop to such vile tactics.

*sigh* Why does it have to come to this. More terrorism in the US.

Well, you have to give this threatener SOMETHING, at least. He had the guts to go beyond being just a mouth, like the cowards on these blogs who can post behind a name and spout whatever hate-filled rants they want. You all TALK like terrorists, but none of you have the guts to be one, or back down off the hate (which takes EVEN MORE guts). You do understand that your hatefulness is what drives terrorists to be what they are, right?

People need to calm down. How will you all look back on your words in December? Most of you will probably forget half of what you said anyway. Please think.

10 bucks says the Republicans sent it to keep up the 'fear factor' and the 'bogus' threat of terrorism going.

It probably came from Georgia (the country) after McBush sold them out to the Russians. Where is the American muscle you/your lobbyist promised them? They learned the hard way what American had better learn better November! McCain is driven to become president by his "ambition". Seems he'd rather lose an ally (with tough talk and no stick) than lose an election!

John McCain ....25 years of BAD EXPERIENCE!!

I'm an Obama supporter but I pray for the continued well-being of John McCain and all of his staff. Lets hope this is just a prank pulled by some nutjob.

OK – even as a Democrat and Obama supporter, this is absolutely ridiculous. Come on people, let's just disagree, but even if this is a joke, I hope the authorities come down on the person with everything they got.

And please people, don't start blaming Obama or his supporters for this. Let the authorities do their investigation, catch and prosecute the people behind this.

Niether candidate wishes harm to the other.

Hope it is nothing serious. Probably from someone who heard his talk about instituting the draft and they don't want their child somewhere fighting and possibly getting killed, coming back all injured either physcially or emotionally. No one wants their child to be injured but those that volunteer know that there is a possibility. But if Senator McCain gets in and institutes the draft – it will not be voluntary.

This is a set up by the Repugs to take attention away from the VP nominee of Sen Obama. This is their M.O.

I'm not voting for the man, but this is obviously a serious criminal offense. I hope the perpetrator is quickly brought to justice.

Dems and Independents look worse than foolish in their jokes here; let's not make light of something like this – especially if it actually turns out to be a dangerous substance.

Do we still have that color coded "threat" system? If so, what does the color go to now? If there's a scarier color than red, McCain will use it.

I bet you $1,000 this was a set up by the Repugs to:
    1. Steal attention away from the Dem's VP nominee
    2. To again use FEAR

This is the M.O of the Republicans and smart Americans have caught on.
