Powder, threatening letter sent to McCain office

(CNN) - Federal and local officials are on the scene of a threatening letter with white powder received at John McCain’s regional campaign office outside Denver, in suburban Englewood, Colorado.

At 3 p.m. MT, a staffer in the McCain Denver office opened a letter containing a threatening letter and a quantity of white powder," McCain Spokesman Jeff Sadosky told CNN's Justine Redman. "Staff immediately contacted local and federal law enforcement. Staff are taking all necessary precautions, including checking in with medical professionals"

“Agents and Officers are responding," United States Secret Service Spokesman Malcolm Wiley who is in Denver also tells CNN's Jim Spellman.

This is just sad. Regardless of whether you are for McCain or Obama, resorting to this level is below BOTH parties.

My hopes are that nobody is hurt (sounds to be a good bet) and they find the person responsible.

Please make it noted: Some of the above posts from BOTH sides are pretty shallow. Let's not lower ourselves to such a petty human existence. Some of these people ought to be ashamed of them selves.

This is a TOTAL HOAX by the McSame campaign to drum up fear and sympathy. Just like his Fake POW Christianity Story that he stole from a Russian Poet on his time in a Gulag.

Who believes this? I am surprised the talcum powder was not accompanied by a Bin Laden tape! The McCain Campaign is just looking to divert attention from his expressed desire to re-instate the Draft. He also doesn't want people to know he doesn't know how many houses he and his wife own.

I am not a fan of John McCain, but this is a dreadful act, even if it turns out to be a hoax. I don't care how much someone dislikes a candidate, this is America, for heaven's sake... take your frustrations out at the voting booth and vote for the candidate of your choice, don't resort to such tactics. I hope for the sake of those office workers it is nothing, I am sure they will be fearful until they know anything for sure. Shame on such tactics.

It shouldn't take longer for the authorities to figure out what that "white" powder is than it would take to release the story...

    Something's a little fishy here...

It's almost as if the story has gone out on purpose to rile things up with no conclusion....

I think this is despicable no mattter who's at fault.. but the lack of closure on this story makes me believe that this is a plant.

Hopefully they catch the idiot who did this and put him away for a while. There is no place for this behavior, no matter who you support.

Dave, looks like it went 50/50 but I find it funny that it was a right winger under your post.

Wow. The conspiracy nuts are out in force on this one. Try learning about Occam's Razor, geniuses.

Let me see if I can track your "reasoning"...

McCain gets this in the mail..."It's the Republicans doing it!

Obama gets this in the mail.."It's the Republicans doing it!!

Lighten up on the caffeine and chill out. I'm sure that feeling like you're "in the know" makes you feel special, but you're really just paranoid.

"10 bucks says the Republicans sent it to keep up the 'fear factor' and the 'bogus' threat of terrorism going."

Typical moronic comment coming from an Obama supporter. All the people suggesting this should be ashamed of themselves.

I dare you HATERS of the lowest moral standards to blame a U.S. Senator who is subject to ever racial threat daily known to anyone of committing a crime. Give the guy a break. You've called him everything from a racist to the anti-christ.

I don't like McCain but he would never do anything like this and unless you're a complete idiot (and I don't put it past too many of you)....this is not Obama's style and you know that.
