(CNN) - John McCain's campaign is going to the tape.
Wasting little time attacking the newly-minted Democratic presidential ticket, the McCain campaign released a television ad Saturday morning featuring Barack Obama's running mate criticizing the Illinois senator in a primary debate last year.
The 30-second spot, set to air in key states, features an August 2007 primary debate during which Joe Biden was asked if he stood by his criticism Obama is not yet ready to be president.
"I think that I stand by the statement," Biden is shown saying.
The ad also features a 2005 interview of Biden during which he praised McCain, saying, "I would be honored to run with or against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off."

People forget that when you are running for the same job-you ten to say things that you don't mean. Once the battle is over you forget all of that stuff–join hands and move on. This is a good pick and will get my vote.
Yep, it's clear when McCain is all negative all the time, he has nothing good to say about himself.
All that comes to mind is that little sign the reads "Insert foot here" underneath a face with an open mouth.... : /
I think Obama's choice for V.P is a fine choice and McCain is relying on old political strategies to get the American people to waver on their choice. If McCain really wanted to get people to think, he would rise above these types of adds and show that his V.P. choice is better and more qualified. But since he has not taken that path he is showing weakness and showing that nothing will change when he is in office. And using an interview from 2005? McCain is really pulling at strings on this one. It just shows that they really have nothing better to do than search old video footage instead of being out on the campaign trail informing the people about the issues that concern them.
Fantastic.. it will be interesting to see if McCain picks Romney to run with him... because it's not like Romney never said anything "bad" about him during their primary, right?
The speed in which this ad came out just shows that no matter who Obama would have picked, McCain would have something negative ready to go.
At least this one doesn't involve Brit or Paris... so i suppose this should be viewed as an improvement, right?
Maybe McCain can focus on a couple of ads that actually talk about his stance on the issues. It might be difficult, but he should give it a shot.
So now is he going to flip-flop and say Obama is ready ? These democrats make such fools of themselves and their party; We're in big trouble if they end up in the White House.
Desperate times call for irrelevant campaign ads, eh Senator McMansions?
so does this mean McCain won't pick Romney?
Lol can't wait for this old geezer to pick mitt so that we can show the debates they had in the primary season.
You can run this add with anyone who was a presidential candidate, be it biden or hillary or anyone else.
Huge mistake.
Biden has WAY to much baggage and way to many things that the GOP can hit him on.
That ad that McCain's camp just put out... ya, we can all look forward to that sort of thing til November.
A new GOP AD shows Biden criticizing Obama.**McAttack You are leaning toward Mitt there was a lot of Negative exchanges Between you 2 GUYS**OLD HOG JAW!!!
Ouch, why would Howard Dean hand pick Biden for this ticket... the guy from Virginia and Indiana seemed great... not this loser who adds nothing to the ticket.... the real question is what does Biden know?
This just shows that the McCain campaign has nothing positive to say in this race. Where is their plan to end the war in Iraq? Where is their plan to turn this economy around? Where is their plan to restore America's reputation around the world. I guess it is hard to have a plan when you have endorsed all of the policies of the Bush Administration which got us into this mess.
Just remember, what comes around goes around. There were lots of statements made by former GOP rivals in the primaries that could make for good television commercials too.
Hey CNN,
After McCain makes his VP pick, I hope that you will give Obama the same free advertisement that you're giving McCain right now.
I think that Biden is an outstanding pick for the Democrats. If they make it, these two will bring common sense back to the White House. The republicians have really put us in bad shape over these last eight years – in many ways. I've historically voted Republican and Democrat. However, after what we have experienced over the past eight years, I will NOT vote for ANY Republician for the foreseeable future.
Obama is not qualified to be the President, had barely gotten his feet wet on the Senate floor to gain experience and had the audacity to seek the highest office in the land. Now he has someone else's accomplishments to shore up his own failings. Just like he lifted Deval Patrick's speech as his own, this guy is nothing but a fraud. Oh, by the way, Joe Biden got caught doing the same thing. What a joke.
NoBama. No. Now I will have to vote for John McCain, or write in Hillary Clintons name. Once again, the Democrats have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
Good balance to this ticket.
McCain should not have set this standard. Just wait until he picks Mitt Romney.
I'm not for sure but back in 2005 was Obama even named as a potential candidate??? Bet not so this ad and all the others the Repukeakans come out with will be misleading slime like usual.
Interesting.
Well I guess that means McCain won't pick Romney, since Romney criticized McCain several times during that campaign.
McCain's approval of the use of old footage as implicit evidence of current hypocrisy means he should be just fine with the Obama camp showing all those old photos of McCain hugging Bush, Bush kissing McCain, etc., etc., etc.
And maybe some photos of McCain and the wife he swore to love, honor, and respect before he dumped her for the rich beer woman?
We expected mean-spirited tactics from the Republicans and we're getting them.
But everyone understands that rivals in primary campaigns say tough things against their opponent. Watch out, McCain!
Run the ad of what Mitt Romney said about "Exxon John"...McCain owns 7 houses and Mitt is worth 200 MILLION ... and they want to give the VOTERS a 18cents gas tax holiday.
Hey Hillary fans:
Imagine what they would have been able to put out if Hillary had been tapped as Obama's VP pick. They've got all of 30 seconds for Biden, they could do a 3 hours documentary on the negative crap Hillary and her flying monkeys said about Obama.
He said "He's not ready, but he CAN be" -
What's wrong with that? It's better than what we can say about McCain now – He USED TO BE, but he no longer is – dementia is setting in with McCain.
I'll take Obama/Biden any day over the warmonger and whomever he picks.
