GO DEMS

Helen   August 23rd, 2008 6:05 am ET

I campaigned for Hillary from the day she announced her candidacy, throughout the entire drawn-out primary, and I am proud that I was elected as a delegate for Hillary to the Convention in Denver. And I am proud to unite and pull our party and country together, as Sen. Clinton has requested of all her supporters, in working our hearts out to elect Sen. Barack Obama as president and Sen. Joe Biden as vice president. Every Hillary supporter I know feels this way. I suspect most of the comments here that claim to be from bitter Hillary supporters are in fact written by Republican "trolls" seeking to stir up trouble. Do a few "PUMAs" exist? Sure, but so few as to be statistical noise.

Mary   August 23rd, 2008 6:04 am ET

Obama still had a chance with some of us if he respected our 18 million voices. But he didn't even consider HRC and had an aid give her the news. What a slap in the face to her supporters.

Deceive yourself all you like. We are democrats, and we care about the country. that's why we are voting for McCain.

Wanting the best for America is not something we should GET OVER. Nobama!!!!

Austin Chuks, Lagos, Nigeria   August 23rd, 2008 5:52 am ET

With this choice, what else do the accusers have to say – nothing!

Americans I present to you the President of the United States of America – Barack Obama and Vice President, Joe Biden.

When change, judgement to lead and experience are combined, the evil forces of the 'rebugs' can't stand, shaa shaa!!

D from Ashburn, VA   August 23rd, 2008 5:47 am ET

To all you PUMA's, go ahead and whine, get it out of your system now. IF you decide to either stay at home and not vote or even worse vote for McCain, you can wish all women's rights that have been fought for good bye!

To some of you women, who continue to cry for Hillary to be written in, what are you all thinking about? She has battled hard and lost, but she is not forgotten. She will be part of a new democratic party that will change the mess we are in now. She will have a chance not for 4 or possibly 8 years but might have a chance to sit on the most important "bench" in the USA for a very long time and avoid the McCain train wreck he wants to do.

Give it a break, please….

To all your republicans who pose as democrats – get a life!

Protip to McCain's Campaign:
When your rival announces his running mate before you do, do not issue an attack/negative statement within 15 minutes of the announcement. Wait 12 hours, when everyone's awake.

Everything McCain lets his campaign get away with just drives me that much farther from him. GET CONTROL OF THIS – DOES NOT LOOK GOOD (because he's either not in control, or he's a paranoid hate monger).

Protip Txt ppl:
I blame the networks. Obama made them sit on the news until the 23rd, and they took it literally. Once it was midnight, they broke the news. How the heck is Obama's people supposed to beat that?

("I just signed up on the McCain web site — Democrats for McCain….I supported Hillary Clinton throughout the primaries. There is absolutely no chance I will consider BO now…")

You don't expect us to believe that you are a democrat? may be you think you can fool us but it's easy to distinguish a fake post from a republican.

Cheryl   August 23rd, 2008 5:20 am ET

By any chance did this leak to the press that Biden had been chosen come immediately after Hillary was told she didn't get the job?

I think Hillary and her Ellen Jamesians (World According to Garp reference) are the most spiteful selfish anti-Americans I've ever seen.

On August 28 when Barack Obama officially speaks as the first African American nominee for president it will mark a monumental milestone in American history. It's importance to not only black Americans but people all over the world who belief in justice and yearn to find the best in human nature will be enormous. The history of the United States has been tainted by racism. This speech in Denver is a major step toward healing.

For Hillary Clinton's supporters (not all of them, just the militants) to want to destroy that beautiful moment for people who will be watching with tears in their eyes all over the world is despicable.

Bruce   August 23rd, 2008 5:16 am ET

I love how everyone is upset because they wanted a VP who voted against the war. That would only leave Kucinish. I'm sure we would all love to have that idiot onthe ticket. No matter who Obama picked, it would have been somebody who voted for the war. If you base you vote on taht alone, you truly don't need to be voting. There are many issues you have to think about when voting. Not just on one.

Anonymous   August 23rd, 2008 5:14 am ET

SD   August 23rd, 2008 5:07 am ET

Obama has no respect for Bill Clinton — he made it clear by saying that Reagan and Republicans had all good ideas and ignored the most successful presidency of Clinton. If there was any change in democratic politics after Kennedy's it was Clinton's. He successfully worked with a highly confrontational Republican controlled house and senate, made the right choices for the country and left it economically more sound.

Hillary is the first democrat to run based on that legacy of Bill's, and came very close to winning the primary. Instead of showing respect for the Clinton administration and Hillary, Obama decides to ignore Hillary. I doubt Bill or Hill will go to bat for Obama this fall.

This ill treatment of democratic successes and base should cost Obama a lot. His arrogance should put him in the right place — in the group of naive democratic also ran's. Pragmatism and working with adversaries is key to good governance — even when they are trying to impeach you :(

This shows that Obama is ready to lead! He has pick the very best of VP contenders and shown his superior judgement and wisdom! Obama-Biden '08! It is understandable for Clinton supports to be disappointed but it is time for all of us to rally around our to canidates! Clinton is sure to have a place in the Obama-Biden administration! She has made history and will continue to but Biden is the BEST possible pick for the Vice President! Hope Pray and Vote for change!!
Obama-Biden '08!!!!

if the democrats wanted joe biden as vice president, wouldn't they have given him 18 million votes?

Make My Day!   August 23rd, 2008 4:37 am ET

SUPER CHOICE!!……DIDN'T BIDEN SAY ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, THAT OBAMA WAS NOT EXPERIENCED ENOUGH TO SIT IN THE OVAL OFFICE….NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BE PRESIDENT??

THAT STATEMENT IS GOING TO COME BACK MANY TIMES TO HAUNT HIM!!! AS A REPUBLICAN, I'M EXTREMNELY HAPPY WITH HIS CHOICE OF BIDEN!!

JOHN MCCAIN WILL WIN IN NOVEMBER!!!…..THANK GOD!!!!

ted   August 23rd, 2008 4:32 am ET

I just don't get why Hillary supporters are so pist at Obama. She wailed on him happily for 15 months and acted like she was annointed. He simply beat her in the delegate race. If she didn't have just a Super Tuesday strategy she'd likely be in Obama's spot, but it's not his fault he ran a better campaign.

If you are pist, be mad at her campaign, the media or whatever.

Did you really think Obama could govern with Hillary and Bill next door. The idea of it is fantastic, but they are simply too powerful to play second string. It would not have worked.

Hillary will play a big part in getting universal healthcare done and Bill will help repair our image along with Showing the world we can vote in the best candidate regardless of race or age.

Let's just BEAT these idealogues with brains and savvy and get our reputation and economy back. 8 years of mismanagement is enough.

NoObamaBiden08   August 23rd, 2008 4:28 am ET

Well, that put the nail in the coffin. No Hillary= a vote for McCain. Way to go Obama…your inexperience and poor judgement are more clear than ever.

lvlax   August 23rd, 2008 4:25 am ET

I don't think this thing will even be close now. Obama picked an 8 term senator and is calling himself the candidate for change??? The guy is a charlatan, pure and simple. Talks to the people with his preachy reverand voice and basically says nothing. He showed how innept he was during the debate..McCain was decisive while he was all "ummm…well… ummm.. thats above my pay grade" . Without a teleprompter he's shows just what a lightweight inexperienced empty suit he really is. McCain has plenty of flaws as a candidate but between the 2, he's a far better choice with his experience and knowledge than Obama would be.

McCain 08!

Sean   August 23rd, 2008 4:22 am ET

What a fantastic choice!

And to Hillary supporters, I'm absolutely serious when I say that Hillary can be far more effective and influential as a high level cabinet member than as VP. I think this'll turn out to be the best arrangement for everyone.

It's a good night.

rob kole   August 23rd, 2008 4:17 am ET

If Florida and Michigan get full votes at convention and use those numbers in the primary count HIllary won. This is a prime example of the failure of the leadership at the DNC and why I am afraid that combined with VP pick Obama will lose in November.

carol   August 23rd, 2008 4:17 am ET

I can't believe some of you people. I don't know why you people think he owed her anything. This is a presidential race. No one should pick someone because she is owed it. People get real. I am a republican. But I can see myself why He pick Biden. Hell I would have too. I will vote for him just because he showed integrity and made his own choice. And I was a hillary supporter. If this is the case All presidents would choose the looser if that is what was owed to the looser. Get real people. And for you people say that you will not vote because of his choiec, that is stupid. Especially you women, look what women had to go through just to get their voices heard to vote. But I will say, CNN hit the nail right ont he head when they said some people will vote for the other or will not vote because he was not of their race. How ignorant of people. God will shame you for this. Underneath the skin we are all the same and bleed the same. And you know what else, I have had so many people in my family loose their homes and McCain can not even remember how many houses he has. That should tell you that not only is he slow, you can tell that he has never had to really deal with real life problems. I was listening to him the other day stating that he wanted people to have the choice to send ther kids to the good schools like he and Cindy sent their kids. Why bus/charter your kids to other areas? Just give the poor schools money. That would be the reasonable thing to do. He is the one out of touch and not understanding the real life issues that people deal with.
This is real people, stop hating and vote for what is good for you and your family. Aren't you all tired of the bickering because Hillary did not get chosen. But my question is why should he be forced to vep her. I wouldn't If I was in his shoes. Look what kennedy did, he chose someone he did not care for, but it was for the good of the country of the choice he made. I can't believe people today are just as ignorant as people where years ago. No I see why our country is full of hatred and smears. I just lost a kid due hatred because he was black. And to think people are so hateful. I just don't understand.
And why would this country of demoncrats refuse to vote for another democrat know that the only thing McCain ever talks about is war, his vietnam experience, or how to win the war. Tell me what is there to win, I even lost a loved one in this wasteful war. He sound just like Bush war, war, war, war, war. Get real people. Loose what I have lost, 2 lives in 4 months. Get real and wake up.

Muyoyeta   August 23rd, 2008 4:17 am ET

VoteForYourself writing from Europe above is right on the money. Why would you vote for Mccain and not Obama just because Hillary hasn't been put on the ticket as Veep. Do you vote for personalities or policies? You are the same people who would have accused Obama fro playing politics if he had put Hillary on the ticket. It's about someone you think will do the job and who you will be able to work with. I really don't think Obama would have been able to be in a good workring relationship with Hillary. There would have been some fightings in the background which would have made governing very impossible for Obama.
About the 'Change' argument, we all know that Obama needed somebody with lots of foreign relations experience and Biden is the best pick. We all know that Hillary's foreign experience resume was found wanting during the primaries and the GOP would have capitalised on that. Already the GOP are trying to attach Biden alleging he himself had highlighted Obama's lack of experinece. Imagine what would have happened had Hillary been on the ticket. How would she had been able to defend Obama on negative issues that she had used to attack him?
I'm in Australia and I reckon Biden is the best choice Obama has made of his veep. People go vote for this guy if you are truly honest with your conscience!

real american   August 23rd, 2008 4:15 am ET

if you choose mcsame over oboma just because of clinton your idiot and never knew her issues.they never disagreed on issues you were never a real supporter of her ideas just wanted her name.

Obama is going down for the count. What change?????? Biden is a Washington insider big time.

No Hillary Clinton, NO VOTE FOR YOU OBAMA! ONE MORE VOTE FOR McCAIN

And you Obama supporters, get over it for you are going to lose in November against McCain and whomever.

Mile Hi Man   August 23rd, 2008 4:14 am ET

The friggen Hillary morons are such a joke. They'll vote McCain out of spite. Instead of getting the Bush morons out of office, they'll go for another 4 years of the SOS, instead of being smart and getting the whole Bush clan outta there. Kinda like cuuting your nose off ta spite your face. LOL Give up Hillary supporters, maybe she can get the vote in 2016. Hope ya notice I didn't say 2012, cause Barrack and Joe will win then too. Hillary has so little "experience" where Joe has a ton of it….Great Choice Barrack!!!!!

All these Hilary supporters can go cry in their coffee in the morning. I am still trying to figure out how being the wife of a President is equal to experience. Biden has so much to offer, she probably would have picked him for her VP.

HE HAS DISRESPECTED THE BEST CANDIDATE OUR COUNTRY HAS SEEN IN YEARS, SINCE HER GREAT HUSBAND BILL. OBAMA HAS RUINED OUR DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

DON'T LET HIM RUIN OUR COUNTRY. HE IS BAD BAD NEWS. I TRUST A WORD HE SAYS, HE IS NASTY AND NEGATIVE AND PLAYS THE RACE CARD AND HAS USED HILLARY IN A DISGUSTING WAY.

Kittyluv   August 23rd, 2008 4:02 am ET

In reply to some of the post above. First off all of you whinning about your kids being drafted, if you yourself would have served your country instead of having people like me doing it for you, you would then know Obama is the one that will put your sweet security at stake. I actually fought for your right to mouth off on this board. Second I am a Puma and switched my party affiliation when I became disinfranchized by the Democratic party, So if truly beleive what your saying then maybe you should take a second look at your selectee because his left liberal leaning policies will eventually lead to communisim then whine to me about your poor babies having to serve in the military it won't be by choice then. If all you can complain about is not getting the text message first that definately shows your maturity level when it comes to picking a president. Think what you want about us puma…..People united means action…….and guess what you will see the action come November, Hillary or no Hillary the DNC will sink….Go! Mccain

I fail to see how one can support McCain and then call Obama boring.

If boring means giving you the inspiration to get up and actually do something rather than falling asleep in your chair then this country has more problems then I thought.

The country get much worse, those uneducated few that are switching to McCain BASED ON A VP PICK!!! are unbelievable.

McCain 2008 / Hillary 2012?

Who says McCain wont win a second term? If Bush can do it in the middle of an unpopular war so can McCain. That would mean McCain 2008 / Hillary 2016. Wanna keep another republican in the white house for 8 more years? I think not and democrats will vote their party.

Agnes   August 23rd, 2008 3:44 am ET

How can an informed decision be made? Sen Obama simply is not experienced and has many unresolved questions about his past. Local community outreach and state senatorial voting record of present are not enough to say he is experienced. And, as the chairman of the Subcommittee on European Affairs with jurisdiction over NATO’s operations, he hasn’t called a meeting in the two years as it’s chair.
“From CNN: But Biden, conveniently the Chairman of the full Senate Foreign Relations Committee, hit back at DeMint Thursday, writing in a letter to him that NATO's mission in Afghanistan has been dealt with at the full committee level. "Under my chairmanship the Foreign Relations Committee has addressed most Afghanistan issues at the Full Committee level," Biden wrote. "I believe that this is the best way of ensuring the most comprehensive examination of the complex issues involved, and of ensuring the highest-level Administration participation."”
Little to no experience here. Even Biden seems to doubt Sen Obama’s executive abilities.

I have some hard-hitting questions that Clinton supporters should ask themselves:

1. Would there be this much spite if John Edwards was the presumptive nominee?

2. What were John Edwards qualifications in comparison to Hillary Clinton?

3. Why did she have to loan her campaign 13 million dollars of her own money when she was the front runner?

4. If she's more appealing to rural voters why did she lose Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho?

5. Why did she agree on the primary dates when they were set 3 years ago, sign a contract agreeing to abide by the DNC's rules, and then try to change the rules when it became obvious she was losing?

6. Only one of the past five President's (George H.W. Bush) had documented foerign relations and policy experience prior to being elected, where's Hillary's?

7. Why are you blaming Obama for her debt which he cannot legal wipeout, and why doesn't she transfer her debt to her Senatorial campaign which she is allowed to do so she can continue fundraising?

8. Have any of you Hillary accolytes actually read the DNC's campaign rules and bylaws?

9. How is it that being Govenor of one of the least populous states in the southern US for 10 years, and having a law degree from an Ivy League school is sufficient qualification for the presidency, or being thereof is sufficient; but being a state senator and the US Senator with the same degree not qualified?

10. Is the thought of an educated, articulate, talented, respected, and charismatic African-Caucasian American as President that frightening?

Camille   August 23rd, 2008 3:40 am ET

It's sad to think of what a selfish country we lived in. Every day when we go to work and deal with our friends, we think that people are willing to lay down their own interests for the good of all. To all of those who are holding onto Hillary, I feel for you, but you are wrong. Your decisions are made of anger and spite and from this, no good will come. I never thought I would see so much hatred in this country. How could someone put a person before the issues? Your child may not die in Iraq, Iran, or even Russia, but someone else's will. You may not die or endure sickness due to lack of proper health care, but some poor person will. You may not lose your house, but thousands are every day now. And perhaps you can survive 4 more years of the same, but there are those of use who cannot. So, tell me, would you rather have it that way because "your person" lost? I am truly, truly saddened by this. Life is progressing, and one day we will have a woman president but this was not the time. Yes, she got 18 mil but so did Obama get 18 mil. So, you have to be real with yourself. It's not b/c you feel he or the DNC stole the election. You realize how close it was. It is anger and hatred. Be honest with yourself. And when you do, please, stop, pause, be quiet, pray, meditate – whatever you do. Forgive what you perceive to be the "wrongs" against you. Get out, take a walk, look at random children on the street. What do you want for them? Be honest. Then, ask God, ask yourself how we can truly heal our party and this nation. Only then will all of the strife end and true change and hope begin. May God Bless America.

Thomas T.   August 23rd, 2008 3:39 am ET

This is a great pick for the country!
But: Now we have to intellectual constitution law professors on the ticket. And the sad truth is, that a government can´t be much better than the people, and I fear that there are more truth-over-facts-christie-flag-pin-pledge-of-allegiance-god-bless-america-pals
than people who are tough enough to understand what´s necessary to put our lovely country out of the mess. I think usually every country gets the leader it deserves. That´s really bad for Obama. I hope I'm totally wrong!
Thomas from Cincinnati, OH

-by the way: dear Hillary supporters: If she wants Obama will give her every secretary post she wants and she can do much more for the country this way than beeing VP. For a VP she really got to nasty in the primaries. That's not his fault. In spite of this, a appreciate her totally like nearly all Obama people also do. So don't be so dumb like the people that wasted our country and Hillary fights again. Unite for the well-beeing of this country!

{Moderator – this is a correction to the post i just submitted. I accidently clicked send before proof reading it.}

It truly saddens me that so many Hillary supporters are harboring such animosity toward Obama. Early in the primaries, I was tossed up between Obama and Clinton (after my candidate Bill Richardson left the race) because they were so similar on the issues. Honestly, their differences on the issues were very subtle.

As the primaries unfolded, it started to become clear to me that the difference between them was character and integrity.

The Clintons were very hateful and divisive, and what bothered me most was the way Hillary padded her resume and diminished Obama's. Hillary does have slightly more experience than Obama, but truly saying that everything she has done in the 35 years since she left college has prepared her for the presidency is such a stretch. Obama may have been in the senate for only a short time, but the type of work he has done since he left college seems to be right on track with what the country needs right now. And then the sniper fire lie just made me think "wow, lying comes so naturally to her that she even embellishes something like this which doesn't even matter. How can I trust her to tell the truth about important issues?'

Listen, I enjoyed the Bill Clinton years, and I thought he was a good president. But Hillary is not bill, and the times are changing. Obama is what we need right now. And again, it is his integrity and character which impresses me above all else.

If you got all of your information from Hillary and that is the basis for what you believe about Obama, then it is seriously time for a fact check Why don't you look into him yoursef?

I'll leave you with this thought: Mark Twain once said "Anger is an acid which does more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured". This country is at a critical juncture. Please put aside your hurt feelings and think this through. What would Hillary do? Oh, that's right, she's voting for Obama.

To little to late!   August 23rd, 2008 3:36 am ET

Obama, why run against the wind?

Hillary, Hillary, Hillarey!!!

Young Republican   August 23rd, 2008 3:25 am ET

Man, you so-called Dems who're jumping ship and voting for McCain instead of Obama or not just sick, you're unpatriotic. How dare you wish another four years of the same on our great nation. Shame on you.

I like McCain, but he isn't very wise, nor is he presidential. Sort of like Bush.

Johnathan Miller, Moultrie, GA   August 23rd, 2008 3:24 am ET

The Democratic Party has lost my vote. I didn't want to vote for Obama anyway, but had planned on it on principle. That is, until his selection of Joe Biden sealed the deal. I guess that makes me undecided at the moment, other than ANTI Obama/Biden.

Nevada dude   August 23rd, 2008 3:22 am ET

1. you HRC fans get over it: Biden is FAR more qualified for office than hillary. 30 years in the senate, head of foreign relations committee vs. first lady and 1 senate term. its a no brainer.

2. this just defused the no experience bombs McLame has been tossing– Biden has been a senator longer than he has AND can remember where he lives.

3. McLame has been trying to induce anger out of Obama so he could stick an "Angry Black Man" label on him, now Biden can be Obamas attack dog–one who is smarter, faster and tougher than McLame

leavellwd   August 23rd, 2008 3:21 am ET

OK how old are some of you here, your acting like 3 year olds saying "he didn't choose Hillary so I'm not going to vote for him, and instead vote for McCain."

So let me get this straight, your not happy with the way this country is being run so you back a democrat "Hillary" and she loses the primaries, then Obama doesn't choose her as a running mate, so instead of making a change in this country you would rather vote for a Bush clone. That is just stupid thinking.

I have said this before and will again, "the biggest enemy Obama has in this election is Hillary."

Obama 08

Oneof18Million   August 23rd, 2008 3:21 am ET

MCCAIN 2008, Hillary 2012!!! Hillary, should just skip the convention…

Peter (CA)   August 23rd, 2008 3:20 am ET

This is a great choice and what we need. Now we won't hear the whining about "no experience". No, I'll take that back, the right wingers will continue to whine about this and everything else.

Are the Republicans going to run McCain/Romney? Two multi-millionaire elitists completely out of touch with the average American?

Obama/Biden–the only choice to reclaim America

Oneof18Million   August 23rd, 2008 3:20 am ET

they're saying obama didnt even seriously consider hillary for the vp slot, well OBAMA, im also not considering you as the next President. WOULD RATHER HAVE MCCAIN THAN OBAMA!

joe   August 23rd, 2008 3:19 am ET

TO ALL PUMAS..be kind enough to help hillary sttle her debths then you came back and talks…you cant have a running mate so indebthed and so negative in her campaign, get over it

Shawn   August 23rd, 2008 3:19 am ET

I know that some HRC supporters are saying they are going to vote for McCain now or not going to vote at all??

1) If McCain stands for what you believe in, then go ahead
2) If not going to the vote booth and exercising your right to is okay with you, then go ahead.

I know that HRC got 18 million votes and is due a certain amount of respect because of that an what she achieved as a woman – yet are Richardson, Edwards,Dodd supporters not due any respect because they were man?

And some who say that Biden voted for the war and BO shouldn't had chosen him because of that – HRC and Bayd did as well…

QG   August 23rd, 2008 3:18 am ET

EVERYONE LISTEN…. All of the comments about Dems jumping ship and voting for McCain are B.S. These are republicans posing as democrats trying to confuse us and desperate since the story about McCain making up ground seems to not be accurate. DONT FALL FOR THIS TRICK!

Carolyn   August 23rd, 2008 3:17 am ET

Hey Hillary supporters and Pumas, get yourselves another blog to post on. We're tired of it. Vote for whoever you want. Just get out of our live and get one of your own.

Spare me the crap. You people would whine if he HAD chose Hillary saying SHE WAS HIS BIGGEST CRITIC. NO WAY?!? Her a critic? She had to try and get dirty and still lost? GET OVER YOURSELVES.

GO POUT. GO VOTE MCCAIN. AND IF BARACK LOSES YOU WILL BE THE PEOPLE WHOSE FACES I SPIT IN WHEN MY CHILD IS FORCED INTO A MILITARY DRAFT.

Oh so now Obama/Biden how about McCain/Hillary. that will be a perfect combination most experience and devotion. Wow hello republican you will get my vote

Jack Green   August 23rd, 2008 3:16 am ET

Does anyone actually believe that these supossed Clinton supporters are real? Its patently obvious that they are Republican trolls trying to reopen the wounds left from the primaries and gin up support for McCain anyway they can.

Nice try, but extremely pathetic.

Now if anyone is actually stupid enough to vote for McCain simply because of who Obama picked as VP? Then I guess you'll get what you deserve.

Adam Mundwarf   August 23rd, 2008 3:15 am ET

I Honestly think that Biden was the Best VP choice, Think about it. Here is Barack he is young, smart, and has great Ideas. Then here is Biden, Been involved with politics for many years, and knows how the cookie crumbles….so we got a Great ticket!

And for you Angry people waiting for a Text message, or an email….before you blow up and say it was a "SCAM!!! " Take a sec and think about how many emails and text messages needed to be sent. Come on use your Brain.

Michelle   August 23rd, 2008 3:14 am ET

Deb in Texas good can you go on McCains blog or better yet send him some money ? And while your checkbook is out could ya pay something for Hillary's insane debt ? YOU HAVE HER EGO TO THANK FOR IT .. cause we are NEVER PAYING FOR PENN

Checkmate. This election just got more interesting. Bring it on Repubs.

Moe, NY   August 23rd, 2008 3:13 am ET

Way to go Obama….excellent choice! Biden, with all his experience will bring nothing but excellence to your Presidnecy…..once again, way to go! Besides, with all the YES people around you, Biden is an excellent choice because he will not YES anyone…he tells it like it is!

Canuck   August 23rd, 2008 3:13 am ET

As a Canadian looking in I find it amazing that no one has ever mentioned that Obama is constantly being referred to as a "black man". Last time I checked, he is "bi-racial", having a white mother and black father. Has Obama forgotten his white roots? Was he not raised by his white grandparents? I think alot of white people do not like him because he has abandoned his white roots. Would it not be better to campaign as the first "bi-racial" president rather than simply "black" president. With his choice of running mate and lack of reference to his roots, Obama has committed political suicide…. Just observing from across the border.

hmm   August 23rd, 2008 3:12 am ET

not impressed. I mean I'd never vote for a republican, but I'm worried now there is no way we can win. :/

Lou   August 23rd, 2008 3:12 am ET

Let's just give him the job already! The whole world seems to think he' gonna be the president, so why have the election. We should just crown him king right now. Please tell me what I am missing. I just can't see what is so appealing about him. A VERY liberal elitist is what I see and hear when he is talking.

John Smith   August 23rd, 2008 3:10 am ET

Why is it that NO ONE, not a single Hillary active supporter is talking about the *excess* baggage that BILL (Monica revived etc..) and Hillary will bring BACK to the democratic party!!!

Folks, this is about the party. The Clintons have had their share, and because of them, Al Gore and Kerry lost all previous elections.

With Hillary on the ticket, even DEAD REPUBLICANS will rise from the grave to vote for things to get only worse in McSame!

Michelle   August 23rd, 2008 3:10 am ET

Biden was my first choice for President so I am totally happy :-)

@Allen ("WRITE in HILLARY…I WILL NOT VOTE Obama 1st time not voting for a democrate since 1981. I would rather have 8 more years of Bush than 4 years of Obama")

LOL! That's the most transparently fake post from a Republican that I've seen yet. Grow up, would you please? Fake comments like those simply clog the blogs.

Bob   August 23rd, 2008 3:07 am ET

CNN is doing its job, reporting the news as soon as possible? The fact that this story was leaked just as CNN was about to air another story about Obama's brother living in abject poverty, is relavent to the anouncement of Biden for V.P.

McCain=Bush & the return of the draft   August 23rd, 2008 3:03 am ET

Hey Allen and you pumas, get over it, Hillary is not the nominee. If you were true democrats and not republicans you would support the democratic ticket. Obama and Hillary are on the same team. When will you either join the team or reveal your true republican identity?

Unreadable   August 23rd, 2008 3:01 am ET

This is actually the choice that I've been hoping for. A wise, sensible choice. I don't care for all the little mean-and-green reasons people have to vote against Obama. Republicans cannot stay in the White House, what kind of idiots are we as citizens if we elected the same people who've been raping our brains and stealing our purses for the last eight years.

There is no way any sane person can vote the repugnant criminal fraudster outfit called the GOP. It's the party of multimillionaires, extreme religious zealots, pedophiles and racists, the last three groups intersecting a lot lately. A vote for McCain is a vote for Mark Foley and David Duke combined.

Sane people support Obama.

cynmcm   August 23rd, 2008 3:00 am ET

I could'nt have said it better " What are they thinking " your right on target, I think people have forgotten what all we have been through in the past 8 years of republicans already.

Stop the Madness   August 23rd, 2008 2:59 am ET

Vote on the issues – not because your person didn't get the nomination or because he's democrate or republican, or because he's black or too young or too old. If Obama had picked a younger VP – you would have said they are both inexperienced. People love to complain and the world is watching. There shouldn't be any parties to chose from – no democrates, no republicans, no independents – JUST VOTE.

VOTE ON WHAT IS BEST FOR OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS – OUR YOUTH.

Obama/Biden 08   August 23rd, 2008 2:55 am ET

Is "Your comment is awaiting moderation" a nice way of CNN telling me that they're not going to post my comment? Yep, apparently it was as my previous comment has just gotten erased from this comment board.

So apparently those racist rants I see on this board are ok as well as the repeated name calling back and forth, but me submitting a comment where I give a g-rated, fair analysis of why someone who had voted for Clinton, would feel compelled to vote for McCain, is… bad.

You guys are in need of new moderators.

Well Sen,Obama first major decision as a Presidential candidate and HE GOT IT RIGHT !!!!! PERFECT WAY TO BALANCE THE TICKET..JUST WHAT WE NEED IN THIS COUNTRY BALANCE!!!!!

Larry O   August 23rd, 2008 2:49 am ET

One of the greatest damage done to our beloved country USA since the inception of this current administration is in the foreign diplomacy arena. It was made worst when our beloved soldier soldiers, Colin Powell was frustrated out. Senator Biden has been a strong advocate when it comes to projecting a strong, dynamic and respectable foreign diplomacy. As a Vice President, he is surely going to compliment President Obama's generational governance.

Kudos to the Democrats. Let us rally around these choices and collectively work hardest to bring about the long lost respect our deserved.

Was a Republican, then Independent but returning to Democratic Party to help produce a president and vice president with visions.

Patriot   August 23rd, 2008 2:47 am ET

Getting his own "tax credit" wrong: McCain was badly wrong in what he said about the child "tax credit." The current child tax credit is $1,000, and McCain is not proposing any increase at all. What McCain actually is proposing is a gradual increase in the $3,500 exemption for each dependent child, starting in 2010 and increasing $500 each year until it reaches $7,000 in 2016. On his Web site McCain describes this as a "doubling" of the exemption, but even that is misleading. According to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, the exemption is expected to go up to $4,200 per child in that time period under current law, which calls for annual adjustments for inflation.

The distinction between a tax credit and a tax exemption is both basic and significant. A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the amount of tax owed. An exemption is much less valuable to taxpayers, as it merely reduces the amount of income subject to tax. An exemption is also more valuable to upper-income taxpayers, who fall into higher tax brackets, than to middle- and lower-income taxpayers.

Bidenlicious!   August 23rd, 2008 2:47 am ET

A new exciting path begins for our country today!

Today, we lost 1,000 – 10,000 angry, bitter, crybaby Hillary supporters.

Today we also lost a "hole in the head", which describes exactly how much Obama "needed" Clinton, for "Deb in Texas"

Today, we began the journey to gain back our country from the ravages of the Bush administration, lobbyists and PACs.

Today, we gained 1,000 Republican & Independent supporters for every single one of the angry Hillary supporters like "Deb in Texas", "HIllary is the Best with the stuck CAPS key", "cam", and "Terry". We could not have gained them if McCain kept playing TV ads featuring Hillary Clinton's primary comments from now to November ending with the voice over: "even his Vice President said so".
1000×1000 + 1000×1000 and 1000×10000 + 1000×10000.

Do the math! [Hint: it's 2 followed by the total number of zeroes. Or use the calculator on your computer]

Excellent Hillary, I am glad that you avoid a losing team. I am a Demoncrat voting Republican this Nov…sound familiar. I think Obama did a huge favor for Republican Party by winning the Demoncract's nomination.

Stevo   August 23rd, 2008 2:40 am ET

VoteForYourself! I agree…mostly!

I don't think that a vote for Hilary should be a vote for Obama by default. But I do feel that it is every voters responsibility to select the best candidate from the two available.

If as an educated voter you select candidate X then great. But if you select a candidate simply based on party, last name, or in defiance…than you have failed your country! Voting is not just a right, it is a responsibility!

JC   August 23rd, 2008 2:40 am ET

He will lose in Nov. for sure.
No Hillary = No vote for him.

Patriot   August 23rd, 2008 2:40 am ET

McCain's ad opens by turning Obama's housing problem attack back on Obama. The narrator says Chicago real estate developer Tony Rezko, one of Obama's "biggest fundraisers" helped Obama buy his "million-dollar mansion" by purchasing property that Obama couldn't afford. The ad goes on to charge that Obama helped Rezko receive "political favors" including "$14 million from taxpayers," and it points out that Rezko is now a convicted felon.

It's untrue that Rezko got "$14 million from taxpayers" for himself, as the ad seems to be saying. The "help" to which it refers is a one-page letter Obama signed in October 1998 urging the city housing commissioner to support an apartment project for low-income senior citizens. A copy went to the state housing development authority. The 97-unit Cottage View Terrace, which opened in 2002, was funded with taxpayer money, and Tony Rezko was involved in developing the project.

I'm satisfied with Biden, However I have a message for Puma people. blacks have always supported the democratic party. If Puma spits the Democratic Party in Nov. jennifer   August 23rd, 2008 2:36 am ET

I think that this is the last nail in Obama's coffin so to speak! He has been pimping Hillary Clinton supporters by pretending to consider Hillary when he knew that he would never pick her. I am a black woman who will not vote for Obama but will for the first time vote Republican. This was so stupid and such a slap in the face of women that I feel that by the end of this week that he will be down 10 points because women are the number one voters in the democratic party and just like myself and my female friends most of us will see this as the biggest democratic mistake of all and Obama will join the other list of democratic losers!

Mccain '08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saddened Lifelong Democrat   August 23rd, 2008 2:36 am ET

We Hillary supporters thought the Obama campaign would at least offer her the VP spot. Well let's do the math here. Obama plus Hillary was a 36 million vote headstart and a short route to the White House. Now it's 18 million trying to come up with 55 million likely needed votes to get to the White House. Good Luck on getting those 37 million votes. More than that Good Luck on getting the electoral votes. This is a mess now for us Democrats. This just poured more salt in the wounds instead of unifying the party. I have voted Democrat in all five previous elections, but will sit this one out.

Obama has messed up. You will see this in the new polls that will now show less undecideds. I wasn't going to vote. Now I will be voting for McCain just so I am heard very loud and clear!

Michael   August 23rd, 2008 2:31 am ET

Obama people are so blind in their thinking that Obama can do no wrong that they are actually thrilled that he just picked a VP that has said many times that Obama is not ready to be President.
Obama wasn't going to go negative, but McCain suckered him in. So the wimpy Obama decided he needed an attack dog. So he picks a McCain like old white guy who has been in Washington longer than anyone can remember. McCain can now throw Obama's change mantra right back in his face. And his own VP will provide for McCain a wealth of his own personal sound bites saying Obama is not ready to be President.
Hillary would have united the party. Biden just provides fuel for the McCain campaign. Sure, Biden will go on the attack. But it all can be thrown back in Obama's face.

I am from Europe and I really don't understand all of you Democrats who don't want to vote for Obama. Reading through all your comments, it's obvious that your main reason is :

——> TO PUNISH OBAMA !!!

I am sorry to be disrespectful, but irrespective of how much you dislike Obama and want to get your own back on him for not choosing Hillary as his VP or anything else …
… don't y'all think it would be better for yourself to choose what happens to you in the next years in terms of the money you'll have in your pockets, the healthcare you'll receive, as well as personal freedom and the right to privacy you gradually lost after 9/11 (patriot act, etc.) ? Why don't you choose based on issues and on what direction your country will go ? Do you really think that's less important than punishing one single person ? And by the way … what for ? He has to choose somebody he feels he can work well together with. It's a bit like a marriage. Do you want to force somebody to marry someone he or she doesn't feel comfortable with? You wouldn't want this yourself either.

Grow up already…She lost in the game she invented. In that light, she should have made the rules more favorable to her before she came into the arena!

Now that I got that off my chest let me rejoice in this spectacular moment…

Can someone explain to me why the price of oil is going down now?? Response is: OIL PARTY TACTICS. There is alot to say here, but I can't stand and watch my uncle and aunty who are struggling now because of their houses were foreclosed….

OBAMA / BIDEN 08

Enitan Afolabi   August 23rd, 2008 2:24 am ET

Obama's arrogance has finally blinded him into eating his own head.
He will definitely lose the election. He will also lose the primaries in 2012.
I am definitely for McCain now. Pity McCain can not make Hillary his running mate because she will not take it.
My vote and that of my wife go to McCain because he can work with a Democratic congress.
Biden will shoot the campaign to pieces. He is fond of saying the wrong joke.
Welcome President John McCain and Democratic Congress.

Aziz   August 23rd, 2008 2:24 am ET

Mr. Obama congratulations……you picked the best running mate.

DeMj   August 23rd, 2008 2:24 am ET

Great choice! Obama had to go with someone who will not stand in his way. Think about it… If he had picked Hillary, there would be too many egos around the white house…after all …Hillary was the first lady and Bill Clinton was the president…. Do you think they will listen to Obama??? Heck no!

As for those Hillary supporters, be real. If you were a democrat before Hillary then you should always be. Otherwise, for your selfish reasons to support McCain because Hillary failed to win more voters than Obama just show your true color of not being a true sport. Lost is a lost and win is a win. Go ahead and vote for McCain and if he does win you will always lose! But then again I think it more of "I am not voting for a black dude" rather than voting for your party.

Obama/Biden 08/12!!!!

P.S. If John McCain cannot remember how many homes he own, he will never remember how many voters voted for him. To him, it's like… oh…..thank for voting for me….. Now go buy my wife's beer brand…..if your kids die in my war, they will be called heroes….thank for having your war babies…have a nice life!

Simply Truthiness   August 23rd, 2008 2:23 am ET

All of these Hillary supporters voting for McCain out of spite… talk about shooting Americans in the foot. What ever happened to voting on issues. Obama's and Hillary's positions are so similar and certainly more so than Hillary's and McCain's.

Only a true fool would let their emotions inflict another 4-8 years of the same crap on America. Seriously people, I know you're disappointed, but let's act like adults and do what is better for the common good. Get these GOP crooks out of office.

It's sad that she wanted it so bad, that she was willing to sell her soul to the devil. Bill and Hill are the past, Obama is the future. YES WE CAN!!!"

___________________________________

Hillary Clinton said 'terrible' things? Obama has said and done worse things. Both him and his wife have made several negative, unpatriotic statements about America. Heck, his wife has even went so far as to say that she has never been proud of her country in her entire adult life. The unpatriotic remarks made by Obama and his wife were more terrible than anything Clinton has said.

Now I think you should rephrase your question: Who in the right mind would vote for "Obama" after all the terrible things he said?

Hillary or McCain '08.

i would say that BIDEN is smarter and more respected than anyone in the senate, this is a tough ticket to beat.

HILLARY would have been a good running mate, but also a political one- plus, is this generally fearful and young country ready for a WOMAN

Tired of C Students!!!   August 23rd, 2008 2:21 am ET

This is GREAT news! We now have a bona-fide street fighter that can take care of the attacks from the Republicans and allow Barack to stay on message and force McCain to focus on the issues!!! YAY! I am so tired of the "alleged" Clinton supporters (we know you are Racists and/or Republicans trying to stir up trouble) saying they are going to vote for McCain. I say go right ahead. You know there is no way you were ever voting for Obama anyway. Quit trying to create excuses to not support Obama. Hillary is not an option. Let's just agree that they both were good candidates, but somebody had to lose. There can only be one President at a time. Anyway, Hillary now supports Obama. She has nothing in common with McCain. If you were a TRUE Hillary supporter, you would support the candidate she supports instead of going against everything she stands for (which is what a vote for McCain does). This is not about McCain, Obama, or even Hillary Clinton. It is about choosing the best President. You have 2 choices. You can put away your petty differences, be an adult and vote for the person that supports your issues, or you can vote against your interest in trying to "teach somebody a lesson (who, I have no idea)" and thus contribute to the continued destruction of America. Choose Wisely and pick the person with the intelligence, stamina, temperment and judgement to solve the very difficult challenges the US faces that were brought on by the Bush administration. We all know that person is not McCain. Anyway, I think Biden is an excellent choice. Great job Senator Obama! Democrats unite, we can win!!!!

Was it Biden's "clean, black coment" about Obama that convinced him. What a joke!

He "needed" Hillary - Deb in Texas   August 23rd, 2008 2:19 am ET

I respect Joe Biden only because he once told the media that Obama was needing on the job training, and he voted for the Iraq War, same as Hillary. He was thinking of our safety not being a follower as Obama is. All I see is another Bush and Cheney…..same old politics for someone who preaches "Change" Come on people wake up and see the pattern……Obama is nothing but an arrogant, cocky person, just like Bush was.

I was life long Democrat, now changing to Independent. Never will I support the DNC again. They sabotaged the chance of us having a brilliant, intellegent experience candidate like Hillary, and I won't ever forget that. Hillary supporter with many others in coalition who will now vote for McCain.

For those who think we should be unified…thank Obama for not having picked Hillary. McCain is not another Bush, his a sincere and experienced candidate. The Supreme Court decision is not a vital issue over our protection, and ONLY McCain can do that.

Stop calling Hillary supporters pathetic or whining, we are entitled to our own vote and our own choice. We owe nothing to a party who betrayed us.

Gene in Illinois   August 23rd, 2008 2:19 am ET

All these Obama supporters crying about "where's my text message" is hilarious. Is that what is really important to you? This just shows the shallowness of many of his supporters. CNN was doing their job as a news organization, reporting the news to the public as soon as possible.

Liam   August 23rd, 2008 2:18 am ET

Obama is 46 years old and Biden is 65 years old. So much for thinking differently and change. How is Obama going to do that with his 65 year old mentor/father as his VP? If he really was all about change he would have stuck to his guns and picked Clinton and sucked it up for the good of the party and would have been rewarded with a win come November. This just proves he has no clear clue on what he is doing. I guess the McBush saga will continue on. Clinton in 2012 for me.

lorna   August 23rd, 2008 2:18 am ET

This is a winning ticket – Joe Biden, is a magnificant person. He adds wisdom to our ticket. As for the Hillary Clinton supporters – get on board. Not voting for the Dem. ticket only means no health care, high gas. You are crazy if you think the Rep. Party cares about you or your family. They are hoping you do vote for McCain or stay home. Votes are not emotional choices, but survior choices. We can't survive another four years of the Rep.

PUMAs and If-not-Clinton-then-McCain voters simply amaze me with their staggering, seemingly even willful naiveté. What a bunch of bleeting cult-of-personality sheep. Ask yourself this: Who is Hillary voting for? Obama. Why? Because — duh! — primary scrapping aside, Clinton and Obama have always been really pretty close on matters of substance: healthcare; trade; economics; and — here comes the trump card — the kind of Justices they'd appoint. McCain is on the other side of the fence, remember? Do you people pick a President like you'd vote for high school prom king/queen? If you'd even THINK about voting for McCain, then how could you have ever supported Clinton? And if you wanted Clinton — and the policies and positions she supported — then how could you now not vote for Obama? Really. What are you THINKING?!

NYkrinDC   August 23rd, 2008 2:15 am ET

I understand the anger by the Clinton supporters. I thought she was treated unfairly by the media and the Obama campaign. I also think that Obama made a huge mistake by not even pretending to vet Hillary, and it will likely hurt them. However, what you must remember is that this contest isn't about Hillary or Obama but rather about changing the direction of this country. Do you really want to allow your spitefulness to cause another death in Iraq? A war with Iran? or to allow the continuation of the policies of the Bush administration? If yotu believe that direction is wrong, and you want something different, and better, then you will vote for Obama-Biden. Biden is very close to Hillary and treated her with a lot of respect respect throughout the primaries, they are good friends and have similar policies. You accuse Obamacons, rightly, that they focus so much on Obama the person that they fail to see the issues, yet by allowing your spite to cause you to vote against your on best interests, you are doing the same thing. Think about this before voting for Sen. McCain. if you agree with his policies, positions, then vote for him. He does have some good arguments on his side, but so do the democrats. I guess what I'm saying is give it some real thought before deciding who to vote for, based on policy positions and the issues, and not on hurt feelings, no matter how rightly you hold them.

The Presidency is not a Dynasty... Remember Democracy   August 23rd, 2008 2:15 am ET

I AM SOOOO HAPPY! After the Convention NO MORE CLINTONS! I am behind this ticket 1000% (anything without the last name Clinton would work for me). He is not obligated to please some of you. And like someone said earlier that "thousands will join them in voting for McCain". But MILLIONS will be voting for Obama/Biden. Although I am sad not to see a text message, I totally support the Democratic ticket, that's what Democrats do. Why don't you die-hard "supporters" (although you guys seem way more like Kool-Aid drinkers than an Obama supporter. Who supports someone… who supports someone else and isn't even running anymore?) just go ahead and start your own party? You can call it the "PUMA party" and you can make up rules, then change them as you go along to get whomever you want nominated. Oh! You can nominate only family members of politicans, so that way you don't have to worry about the task of actually paying attention to the issues, because politics is all relative! Then, you can have really divisive primaries, then split into two parties! See? Its very simple, vote spite. Who cares about wars, health care, the economy and the housing market. That crap gets in the way of my feelings.

Obama/Biden 08!

Laird in Austin, TX   August 23rd, 2008 2:14 am ET

I think Biden is a great choice.

I was an avid Bill Richardson supporter, but I was only half hoping for him to get VP because frankly I think he would be well suited for Secretary of State.

Although it is a little unconventional, I think Obama should start announcing some of his picks for cabinet positions a little at a time. Strategically planning these announcements for times when the campaign needs a boost could bolster the excitement about the new administration and keep the momentum going.

Valerie and others who say they will not vote for Obama because Clinton is not on the ballot:

When McCain is elected and appoints a Supreme Court which reverses Roe V. Wade, look in the mirror and thank yourself.

When McCain keeps the Iraq debacle going on and on and on, and more American kids die there, look in the mirror and thank yourself.

When the economy keeps its downward spiral because McCain will continue policies which favor corporations over individuals, look in the mirror and thank yourself.

Need I go on?

117 thousand people in Florida decided to throw away their vote in the year 2000….people upset by one thing or another…people not willing to look beyond themselves and vote Nader instead of Gore.

Those relatively small number of people DOOMED us to eight years of George W. Bush.

Those of you who would use your vote as a petulant weapon rather than wise decision? Please, do our nation a favor and just STAY HOME. You don't have to choose the obvious change in direction represented by Obama/Biden.

Just don't help DOOM us to at least 4 more years of the worst administration in history.

Linda-Omaha   August 23rd, 2008 2:10 am ET

It amazes me that there are so many educated "adults" who believe that two people must agree with each other on EVERY issue to become compatible as a team to work together for the good of something they both want. Mr. Biden is a great choice, they don't need to agree on everything as the RNC, and the HillBillies would have us believe. Or is it that the RNC, and the HillBillies are neither educated or adults? To those HillBillies who are not going to vote, do us all a favor and stay home, PLEASE, don't vote, that way, you wont be able to speak for the next 8 years about anything concerning life in the US.

Scoring the Votes

He said that he had "a perfect voting record from organizations like the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion." But we called both of those groups, and they told us they don't even release congressional scorecards. In fact, the American Legion's constitution prohibits it.

The veteran in this exchange was also wrong in saying McCain doesn't have a perfect voting record with the VFW (since such a record doesn't even exist). However, he is correct in that McCain doesn’t have a perfect score with DAV (Disabled American Veterans), a group of 1.3 million disabled veterans that supports more funding for veterans health care. McCain has a 20 percent record of voting the way DAV would like him to in 2006. The group is nonpartisan, but its 100 percent rankings disproportionately go to Democrats: 207 Democrats in Congress and only 13 Republicans received scores of 100 percent in 2006. Senators were evaluated on five votes for amendments that would have increased funding for veterans’ health care.

Barack, Barack, Barack…..What are you thinking? Are you really that insecure that you couldn't pick Hillary? Are you really for the party or yourself? A Barack/Hillary ticket would have cleaned their clock and would have really stood for the "Change" is on it's way propaganda. Instead you pick Biden who was not even good enough to make it past the first primary vote on every past election for that past 20 years! If Biden was so great why can't he do it on his own? You really missed the boat on this one and McBush is going to pick accordingly now. I'm a Democrat without a candidate now. NoBama here!

Now McCain should put Condoleezza Rice on his ticket and he'll pick up the disgruntled females who supported Hillary and even a few African Americans. I don’t think Obama had much choice, if he had picked Hillary it would have been seen as an act of desperation especially since he’s plummeting in the polls. And can you imagine what the cabinet meetings would have been like. Hillary would have to constantly explain how things work in the real world, since he’s only been operating at the national level for three years and one year of that time has been spent running for the Presidency.

As a 53 year old lifelong Democrat I would have gladly voted for Hillary, but I cannot in all conscience replace a Republican Village Idiot with a Democratic version of the same, John McCain you have my vote!

Stop your whining!   August 23rd, 2008 1:45 am ET

Will you Hillary supporters GET OVER IT ALREADY!?!?!?! She lost because she ran a poor campaign – NOT because of Obama. And she's still in debt!!!!! Stop blaming Obama for everything. Throwing temper tantrums is for 5 year olds – not when you are voting for the President of the United States. If you vote for McCain and we go to war with IRAN, I HOPE your kids are the first to get drafted. And when that happens, DON'T complain!

It was understandable for all of u to vent after the primaries, but jeezz, the whole country has moved on……u need to move on too

You thought the recent Russo-Georgia conflict was bad, wait till Denver! Dang, might as well give the south and west back to France and Mexico, cause Biden can't carry a feather for us.

Good. Biden is the best VP choice out there. This ticket beats Kerry/Edwards and Gore/Liberman. It will obviously beat Mccain/Romney. America cannot afford to let Mccain win.

Obama, I thought you were smarter than that. You just blew the election. Im voting for McCain and then moving to Mexico for 4 years!!!

Toure   August 23rd, 2008 1:37 am ET

McCain just got my vote. Biden is not an agent of change.

Scott   August 23rd, 2008 1:37 am ET

BIDEN voted for BANKRUPTCY REFORM. He's a corporatist dirt-bag. And Obama chastised McCain for voting for the same bill. Hypocrisy much?

Julian, AZ   August 23rd, 2008 1:37 am ET

OBAMA aint no fool…..he knows the people behind him…Yes We Can!!! 80 Million + votes…..what can PUMA 18 Million drops of water do in an ocean? ….nada!

WooHoo!!! I've been a Biden admirer since Iived in DE for a few years in the late 80's. He's always seemed like a regular guy you could watch a ball game with over a few beers, but he's a pit bull when it comes down to the dogfight. I've been saying Obama/Biden for months now!!!!

Cant stop shaking my head in shame for the democrats. They just blew another election. We have wimpy, no balls candidates in the past 2 elections.. Obama just gave the election to McCain and Im supporting the winner—McCain!!!

Reggie   August 23rd, 2008 1:35 am ET

finally…..great choice, we finally got an attack dog

Sean   August 23rd, 2008 1:35 am ET

All of the die-hard Hillary supporters that are switching to voting republican are pure fanboys/fangirls. Im willing to bet that everyone doing that has no idea what Hillary's policies were. Its pure stupidity to call yourself a democrat then vote republican because your choice did not win. Its really immature. Im moving to Canada or England if McCain wins, because it will reinforce the growing feeling that most of America is retarded.

Luka   August 23rd, 2008 1:35 am ET

Wonderful, I thought someone else, but this too is a great choice. Thank God it is not Hillary, she can be used other places in a Obama Cabinate.

UCLA Joe   August 23rd, 2008 1:35 am ET

Obama will lose   August 23rd, 2008 1:34 am ET

William Ayers thinks Biden is a great pick. Rev. Wrong (wright) will still find some reason to hate KKKAmerica. Bottom line is Obama is a marxist. You put Biden with Mr. Marxist and you still have a marxist.

The Kool-Aid is wearing off. America will see through this empty suit and make his home state look foolish for electing this wind bag in the first place.

hope   August 23rd, 2008 1:34 am ET

remember the statement Biden made regarding American Indians…."In Delaware, the largest growth in population is Indian Americans–moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking."
A little narrow minded.
He also proposed legislation to roll back taxes for those making over $1 million a year.

Cody   August 23rd, 2008 1:34 am ET

None of these Clinton supporters ever actually state any facts in their rants.

Wake up America   August 23rd, 2008 1:32 am ET

Hillary supporters should accept that Biden is much better equipped for the job than Se. Clinton.

To the fans of Sen. Clinton, all I can say is get over it! She lost. Very fair and very square. If for any reason Sen. Obama were to lose this year, it will definitely be the fault of Sen. Clinton, which means that her supposed chances for 2012 are next to zero.

Can't believe obama picked biden, he's more communist then vladimir putin.

Doesn't matter McCain has this registered democrat's vote this fall. I'm more interested in McCain's VP. I would be surprised if it was Hillary.

Linda   August 23rd, 2008 1:31 am ET

I consider myself a feminist, and I'm relieved he didn't choose Clinton. Supporting women in general does not mean one has to support what just any woman does – we can still have standards. I don't trust Clinton, I don't like her, and if she were running I'd have had to think seriously about voting for McCain. I think he made a good choice.

beth   August 23rd, 2008 1:31 am ET

FOR ALL YOU HILLARY SUPPORTERS – i don't like obama either but you will come to like biden. it never would've worked with hillary. the vp is a relatively useless posiiton – let's let her do more important things. obama may have a cabinet spot for her and she can get more done in the senate.

november's a while away – keep your minds open!!!!

Barack, Thank you for making the first major decision right ! You need someone like Joe Biden to help you do the heavy lifting (delivering that knock out punch to your opponent; someone who knows where all of McCains bodies are buried). Again, thank you and congratulations on an excellent choice !!! Now, on to Victory !!!

It really would have been great if Sen. Obama could have done things his way with his announcement. He wanted his supporters to know first via text and email. Because of your insistant persistance in being nosey, you reporters have ruined it for us. There is no need for him to text us anything as long as reporters are as nosey as you are. Why couldn't you have just left well enough alone. Haven't you ever heard of the element of surprise?

Joe   August 23rd, 2008 1:27 am ET

To all those angry Hillary supporters…

Why the hell would you risk causing harm to the country by voting for Mccain? Why? Because you are just hurt and mean spirited.

Hillary lost. Accept it. Move on and cast your vote for America's future not your own vanity. You all call yourselves Democrats???? C'mon!

I can't believe that people would put their pride in the way because their candidate wasn'r chosen to settle for four more years of job losses, a slump economy and a costly war. What else are they willing to give up for the sake of pride? Their home , family or bank account! This country is going to hell in a waste basket with this type of mindet.

Don't you want to control your own body choices and prevent endless war and the return of the draft??? Obama and Biden will bring it home for us — what Hillary accomplished will never be erased — only if you don't allow McShame to win the election because you betray our party and our ideals. OBAMA-BIDEN 2008!!!

Elinn   August 23rd, 2008 1:26 am ET

You Clinton supporters should be thankful Obama is such a nice guy, just imagine if he would have gone negative on Hillary Clinton, i'm sure you wouldn't be liking her or Bill too much right now, all the baggage that the Clintons have, has not been revealed at all, it looks like nothing happen back in the Clinton years in the White House, but alot happen, Obama knew McCain would bring it out, would that be good for Obama to take on such a baggage in the Clintons?

philip   August 23rd, 2008 1:26 am ET

you go Obama while I think Hillary would have been a good pick they couldnt please every one so going with the experiance was a wise choice. As much as I like the Clintons theres to many skeletens in there closets. One more thing I'm glad to see some fresh blood in the white house this country was turning into a monarchey.

Obama 08

Abbey   August 23rd, 2008 1:25 am ET

I have been a registered Democrat for 20 years. I voted for Obama in the primaries.
I will vote for McCain in the fall.
I have increasingly noticed an arrogant streak in Obama that I saw in Bush.
I must have heard Obama claim 20 times that Clinton would be on anyone's "Short List" of VP picks. Unfortunately, just not his…..according to several reports he never even considered her. I feel manipulated. I feel he's been dangling her out there like a carrot to win votes and now has thrown her under the bus. I wouldn't want a man of that shallow a character to be my President. Period.

parkmore   August 23rd, 2008 1:25 am ET

looser with looser. We are so happy that Hillary is not the VP so we will vote for McCain and wait for her on 2012………. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo Obama

Independant Voice   August 23rd, 2008 1:25 am ET

How stupid can some of you people be? You say you're democrats, but because the oh-so-holy Clinton didn't win the primaries you're threatening to vote Rep?!? Are you so afraid to let a person with a different skin color lead this country? I know, there is a comment from another African-American that posted on this blog saying they are now voting for McCain.

Stupid.

Just stupid.

Just how many more of your rights do you want taken away? There are some very major important decisions that will be made by the next president, including Judges on the Supreme Court. If you call yourself a life-long democrat, do you REALLY want McCain making those choices?!?

patrick   August 23rd, 2008 1:25 am ET

Its funny you undercover Repubs hate and despise Obama so bad yet, you bots are glued to any thread relating to him. Obama made a great choice.

I hope Mccain picks Ridge!!!…lmao that would really send me howling.

Paul   August 23rd, 2008 1:25 am ET

To all of you foolishly blaming CNN for blowing Obama's scheme – blame your fearless leader – had he no drawn this out like a silly schoolkid scheme CNN would not have had time to narrow the field down to only one – GOOD JOB CNN – way to go and my faith in you is slightly restored.

He picked the guy who wanted Iraq to become three seperate states!!
The same guy who voted for Iraq!!!!
The old guy who has been in congress longer than McCain!!
Thy guy who can't keep his mouth shut!!!!

You know it's always good to have someone on your ticket that has some executive experience. Just a thought.

Ya know… if Obama wanted to win so badly he would have selected Clinton!!!

William Cowley   August 23rd, 2008 1:24 am ET

I would have thought about voting for Obama if he had picked H. Clinton as his V.P. running mate, but since he didn't Im sorry to say McCain will get my vote. Just for the record Im from as so called "swing state" Im from St. Louis, Missouri.

Lifelong Black Democrat   August 23rd, 2008 1:24 am ET

Goo choice, since Biden will be the real president anyway. That said, the way HRC was treated still rankles: no vote in this "selection".

john Gary   August 23rd, 2008 1:24 am ET

And CNN has never been wrong before . . .

Skip   August 23rd, 2008 1:24 am ET

Great choice…it's like JFK choosing LBJ. Obama knew the biggest issue to Americans, besides the economy, is America's foreign relations and Joe Bidden is an expert in that area,

As far as these polls go: They only pooll a few thousand people, and they call the house phone (LAN lines)…so there are still millions of people who have yet to be polled. Obama will win.

As far as the idea that Obama "should" have picked Hillary: crazy. Obama owes Hillary nothing…he beat her fair and square in the primaries and the dream ticket was just that, a dream. Thank God Obama picked Bidden so we can wake up from this 8 year nightmare known as the Bush Administration.

yeahklye   August 23rd, 2008 1:24 am ET

a cerebral but gutty pick.

Corey   August 23rd, 2008 1:24 am ET

I have a very hard time understanding why people who voted for Hillary would now vote for John McCain. If you look at the differences between Obama and Clinton you will hardly see any differences; we all learned that during the primaries. All this shows is that you knew nothing about her policies and that you voted for her because you liked her and just figured she would be a good pick. If you really did like Clinton for what she wanted to do then you will vote for Obama since he has the same goals. Lastly, if McCain gets elected do you really think she will get to accomplish any of her goals for this country as opposed to what she could do if Obama is president. I just ask that you rethink your vote and really understand WHAT you are voting for as opposed to who you are voting for.

LET'S KEEP IT REAL   August 23rd, 2008 1:24 am ET

Word to all the so called Hillary supporters that are insisting on protesting this decision, it never was yours to make it was President Obama's and the fact that he did not allow you all to strong arm him speaks volumes in his favor, but you do have one decision to make come election time I suggest you do so very wisely otherwise you may have to face the consequences.

I just hope that after Hillary is allowed her moment at the convention she will truly be able to support Obama as well as "her supporters" if not I can only pray that they will get somewhere and sit down and stay out of the way and not make it harder than it has to be, but I doubt it they seem to only want attention for themselves the fact that Hillary still has this debt proves this and Hillary wanting all of this attention only proves that she is only thinking of herself, but not too wisely she is not thinking of the fact that all attention ain't good attention, if they continue to cause problems for Obama instead of going down in the history as a champion of women she will be forever be known as a bitter spoiler for the first black candidate as well as the Democratic Party and nation!

Jonathan   August 23rd, 2008 1:24 am ET

hillary doesn't deserve anything….where were all you supporters when she needed campaign volunteers to go door to door. Maybe next time she runs you "supporters" will get off your swivel computer chair and muster up more votes. You says it is undemocratic that she lost….IT'S NOT….She didn't get the votes…..learn how the system works, how the primaries work, etc. You are all so immature and are so "bitter" you have to cry like little babies "wah wah wah hillary should be VP, wah wah wah hillary should be this, hillary should be that" GOD give it up already she lost and it's over forever.

OBAMA/BIDEN

Anyone who would vote for Hillary Clinton, and then turn around and vote for John "no exception in cases of rape or incest" "I don't know how many houses my second wife with whom I cheated while I was married to my injured first wife bought me" McCain is frankly, a moron. I'd like to have the votes, sure, but really, a moron.

idiot   August 23rd, 2008 1:23 am ET

Why do we want a Prez who is incomplete to stat with ??

Obama is seeking someone who can "fulfill" the vacuum that he carries, but thats a big hole . Big enough that Biden can fill forget Kennedy or Gore.

Obama has ruined Dems chances to take back White House.

We were close my fellow democrates! I am so sorry to disappoint you and even myself, but I CANNOT and WILLNOT vote for Obama without Hilary on the ticket!

Kelley   August 23rd, 2008 1:20 am ET

Yeah, this news has been out since about 10:30.

I would be mad if I signed up for the text thing, but surely you know that Obama knew there was no way to keep this a secret.

It was all a ploy to get your cell number and email addresses so he can send you a message on November 3 reminding you to vote, because studies show folks are more likely to vote if they are reminded right beforehand.

Welcome to the world of duped, Obama-style!

Don't get fooled in November.

CNN never puts my comments on, they are always waiting moderation. So I probably just wasted 2 minutes typing this.

Debra   August 23rd, 2008 1:20 am ET

The problem with Hillary Clinton is that she made the decision in her campaign to conduct is as if she were a Republican running against the Democrat (Obama). On top of it, she ran a horrible campaign, mismanaged it at every turn and as much as you Clinton supporters don't want to open your eyes to it, if you can't run a campaign, how the heck do you think this person could run THE COUNTRY!

There is a place for Hillary but it's not where she has access to poison the food of the man who stands in the way of her ambition.

Coach Thumper   August 23rd, 2008 1:20 am ET

All you Hillary supporters… we're all Dems.

But if you go to McCain, you weren't with us in the first place.

U go vote for four more years of Bush because of sour grapes that Hill and Bill blew it, then shove it.

We'll be working America back to greatness again.

OBAMA/BIDEN '08. IT'S A BEAUTIFUL THING!

For Hillary in NYC   August 23rd, 2008 1:20 am ET

I was and still am a strong Hillary supporter. However, this is about something bigger than a group of disappointed Clinton supporters and it’s about something bigger than the Democratic Party. This is about our country and this election will have great consequences for the next generations…your children and their children and their children…

Think long and hard before you decide you will stay home or cast a protest vote “against” Obama. We can’t take a chance on what will happen if we have even 4 years of a McCain presidency. Do you really think it’s smart to help Obama lose so that Hillary can run in 2112? Consider the legacy that GW is leaving behind – can you be so sure that the country will be “fixable” in 2112 after 4 more years of a Republican in the White House? Roe v Wade overturned…another cold war…war in Iran…the haves will have more and the have-nots will lose it all…no healthcare for millions…children left behind…

Hillary has been gracious and I am hoping that her supporters will follow her example…it’s about the greater good…

Geoffrey   August 23rd, 2008 1:20 am ET

This is a fantastic choice. I'm thrilled with this ticket.

Just why   August 23rd, 2008 1:20 am ET

How can you support clinton and then vote for mccain just because you didn't get your way?? I guess if you do that then you never supported clinton at all!!

OBAMA '08

Oh well, good luck Senator Biden! You're a good man and I fully support you (although it should have been me).

Gail AL.   August 23rd, 2008 1:19 am ET

Obama made a good choice for the MCcain campaign, all MCcain has to do is put a woman on his ticket and get millions of women voters. Way to go Obama what a blunder. GOOOOOO MCCAIN

Let's ne rational   August 23rd, 2008 1:19 am ET

Will all you Hillary supporters just get over it! You are acting more immature than my preschooler. So you didn't get your way and now you are going to pout about it? Come on! Do you really think that McCain has closer policies and ideals to Hillary than Obama? Honestly, be adults and accept that the world doesn't always give you what you want.

Don   August 23rd, 2008 1:19 am ET

Smart choice by a smart man.

Yes we can!!!

M   August 23rd, 2008 1:19 am ET

What happened to "change for a better America?" Biden is about as establishment as Obama could get in a VP. Considering how elitist Obama is, though, I shouldn't be surprised. Way to sink the election, Obama.

Ben   August 23rd, 2008 1:19 am ET

Oh, please, let the pro-Hillary, anti-Obama hilarity continue. It's definitely behavior in the best interests of our country's future for a bloc of spite-driven voters to either stay home or vote for the opposition rather than come to grips with the idea that their first choice wasn't the nominee.

Biden certainly wasn't my first choice for VP, and I was on the fence about Obama vs. Clinton in the primaries (just thank God we dodged the Edwards bullet!). The Democrats have their nominee, though, and we as a country need to stop being so selfish in our voting.

The best really is sometimes the enemy of the good.

Why   August 23rd, 2008 1:19 am ET

As a Hillary supporter, I'm not surprised by this. And I don't hate Biden. I don't like things about him, but I don't hate him.

BUT, I wonder why Obama never really reached out to us. For me anyway, all he really had to do was plan to send Clinton supporters a message at the same time he planned to send his own supporters a message about the VP. Our message could have been a nice way for him to reach out to us and explain why he didn't pick her. I would've really appreciated that and it would've shown me that he's not ignoring us.

Harry   August 23rd, 2008 1:18 am ET

If you'd rather have 8 more years of Bush than 4 of Obama, go back in time and move to Fascist Italy.

Rodney D ~ Texas   August 23rd, 2008 1:18 am ET

Are the people who are happy with this pick really series?

I will say it again, and history supports my arguement ~ The road to the White House goes through the South. Fact.

The Democratic party has virtually no chance to win with two liberal northern Senators. It's as simple as 2 + 2 = 4. No calculus needed.

You people need to get that through your thick skulls.

Angry Dem   August 23rd, 2008 1:18 am ET

Political Suicide. Howard Dean should write a book on HOW TO LOSE AN ELECTION. GO MCCAIN!!!!

RW   August 23rd, 2008 1:18 am ET

Hillary is full of wrong decisions:
Wrong Decision, voting for war
Wrong Decision, spending money beyond budgeted in her campaign
Wrong Decision, staying long & prolonging the race
Wrong Decision, still hanging on to Bill Clinton !!!!

Full of MESS ups… Do we need her ? NO !!!!!!

Hillary and Bill sold us down the River years ago,China, Nafta Walmart, outsourcing, insourcing jobs from India.Dont let the door hit in the A$$ Hillary, and take your whiney little Republican friends with you.

Montana for Hillary   August 23rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER will I vote for Obama.

I think that by the Republican National Convention we'll see an upswing on supporters of McCain.

My vote went out the window when he decided against Hillary. You picked the wrong one. Now Hillary supporters will go elsewhere. This one sure is.

Nj in FL   August 23rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

Sorry Mr Obama, maybe the time around, you blew it! CNN, I wanted to get my text, you blew it too.

victor   August 23rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

Yes we can, it's another great day in America as i voted for Bush and republicans for the past 8 years but Obama has my vote for 2008 and 2012.

Susie   August 23rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

Democrats are taking over the White House – Biden will help Barack all the way!! Good-bye to the Crooked Republicans!

Fox news will be whining when their party loses the election.

Man you guys are smart   August 23rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

Obama really is screwed now: all the idiotic PUMA's are going to choose a man whose policies are direct opposites of what they stand for rather than support Obama.

Just goes to show that liberals are just as idiotic as conservatives.

Susan from Scotts Valley, CA   August 23rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

Great choice! I liked Biden in the beginning and changed my mind to Obama but now I get both of them on the ticket and in the white house. This is going to be a great eight years.

Nanci   August 23rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

Biden as VP, is this change or politics as usual?

Cam   August 23rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

Yet another snub to Hillary. Obama's making it very hard for this Democrat to bring myself to vote for him. He thumbs his nose at those who would help him and breaks his word at every turn.

truthbetold   August 23rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

Hmmm, decent choice actually; if this is his choice.

Valerie   August 23rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

I am so disappointed in CNN. This was a special event for Obama supporters and it would not have cost anything to wait until after the campaign text message. Most of us knew this anyway — but you ruined something that was special to us. Don't you think before announcing anything???

Andrew from Alabama   August 23rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

HIllary Supporters…time to mobilize and head to McCain's website.

Matt   August 23rd, 2008 1:17 am ET

This is ridiculous, not the pick, but this announcement. CNN stalking Biden's house and then ruining the whole text message thing. Way to take the fun out of things.

DemDivide   August 23rd, 2008 1:16 am ET

Silly Bloggers, Trix R for kids, and so is CNN's blog apparently

Jake   August 23rd, 2008 1:16 am ET

Hey Hillary Supporters Who Support Her for Non-Racist Woman Reasons,

If it makes you feel better, read the Wikipedia article on Biden. One of his main accomplishments was a bill to protect abused women. You've got a full fledged friend in Joe.

Obama/Biden '08

Coach Thumper   August 23rd, 2008 1:16 am ET

The PERFECT choice… for victory and beyond.

The good news is Hillary can run again in 2012 and walk into the whitehouse

Hillary in 2012!

Craig   August 23rd, 2008 1:15 am ET

Does everyone find it odd that there are 2 times the stories on Obama on CNN than McCain? I am undecided still but seeing CNN push the dems so many elections in a row, it makes me want to go the other way? Does anyone else feel this way?

Jenny Paull   August 23rd, 2008 1:15 am ET

Too bad, so sad. Obama just lost a multitude of votes.

Hillary rocks. Write-in her name.

you know what is so sad is you guys report on Baracks Brother, but what about Cindy Mccains sister. She was on Warren Ballentines show and said she would not vote for her sisters husband. They kicked her out of the family and she was the first born.

Obama/Biden

Paul   August 23rd, 2008 1:15 am ET

It should be alarming to all Democrats that when the choice was between selecting a VP running mate that stands for change versus one the bolsters Obama's inexperiences – Obama had no choice but to go the route for compensating for his gross lack of experience in so many areas. This would be another puppet presidency – everyone knows that Dick Cheney was pulling the strings on Bush and Biden would certainly have to pull all the strings on Obama. I was reading earlier comments made by Biden when he distanced himself from Obama after Obama made the statement that he would meet with heads of state from countries such as Iran without any terms – This is not the leader that we need – Why has the Democratic leadership done this to us – I would love an African-American president just as much as the next guy but give us a Colin Powell (a man of real character who Bush shafted and I think would have gladly turned and worked across party lines)

Hamed   August 23rd, 2008 1:14 am ET

WELL SINCE HILLARY IS NOT VP ITS TIME TO SUPPORT MCCAIN GUYS. PUMA UNITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lucy   August 23rd, 2008 1:14 am ET

Is a shame CNN has to be first to blow the plan…. no wonder people don't trust news media…..

No text means CNN 'SCOOPED' a story again … whew gets old doesn't it?

Dready1rasta   August 23rd, 2008 1:14 am ET

To all of the sore losers who will vote for McShame because Hillary is out…. Remeber that vote as you're waving good-bye to your husbands, sons, brothers and grand-sons as they depart to die in a foreign land so McShame can feel like a big shot. He has already said the draft should be re-instated. Their blood will be on YOUR hands, and it will be up to YOU to explain to their children why YOU voted out of spite for the man who sent their fathers off to die.

Niki   August 23rd, 2008 1:14 am ET

Dems dont have a chance.

I wanted to vote for him (If he had picked Hillary). :(

Count me out on this pick though ~ There is NO WAY he is getting my vote.

Ambrose Smith, Borrego Springs, California   August 23rd, 2008 1:14 am ET

If Hillary would have gotten the nod, the GOP would have been energized to rise up and vote against her.

Yeah–she would bring in votes……for BOTH candidates.

Biden is tough. He can go toe to toe with McCain and the rest of his Bush cronies.

Hillary supporters. You think Obama was MEAN to your lady……just think what McCain and the GOP would have done.

And you want to vote for McCain.

Does Hillary want you to?

You PUMA freaks are lame and overrated.

Mike   August 23rd, 2008 1:14 am ET

Washington is broken, Washington is corrupted, he wants to change washington, but he has picked up a Washington insider. What a change we can believe in?

Seattle Tiffany   August 23rd, 2008 1:14 am ET

GOP, are you watching?

Andrew from Alabama   August 23rd, 2008 1:12 am ET

BIden over Hillary?

They both voted for Iraq…

They both said Obama is too inexperienced to be President…

They both have been in Washington for decades…

They both ran in the primaries…

But Hillary won all the swing states, big states, blue collar states, and more votes than anyone in history…Biden couldn't even carry his own state…

This is a slap in the face to 50% of all Democrats.

McCain-Whoever '08!

Lucy   August 23rd, 2008 1:12 am ET

Is a shame so many of you are so ready to Vote Republican because of Barack Obama and Joe Biden — what a great team.

If we have another republican in office next year… you can kiss your retirement, your home, and anything of value to you GOOD BYE!!!
Don't any of you know a con when you see it??? IN MY OPINION McCain is just that…. he is Bushy BOy's right hand man… and that is SOOooooo sad.

GO OBAMA/BIDEN 08!!!!!!!!! IS THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY not the Clinton Party!!

timber (ex dem)   August 23rd, 2008 1:12 am ET

It is comical that I know who Obama's VP choice is (and I could give a hoot) before all those who gave their phone numbers and emails!! Obama screwed his own supporters, he just wanted the info for his database and made fools of them all. LOL

ken k   August 23rd, 2008 1:12 am ET

PUMA! Obama is actually ok, but I'm sick of his flock of better than thou worshippers. I never thought I'd say this, but I'll vote Republican just to spite Obama's tribe.

Great choice!
Looks lie a winning team…congrats!

Now your so called PUMAS (who we all know by now are just republicans-kinda like Rush Limp in drag!!).
So lets the games begin—let them have their fun, but keep our focus at the same time-there is alot of crap that will be tossed around-looks past it…please.

Lyle   August 23rd, 2008 1:12 am ET

Mr. Biden is a hilarious choice! Now the joke ticket is complete and Mr. Obama has sealed his fate.

Democrats have apparently given up on winning the White House, and have just handed the election to President McCain.

Slider   August 23rd, 2008 1:12 am ET

R O F L

Thank you, Democrats!

The Republicans won't have to say a word now to win. All they have to do is show Biden's numerous gaffes and this election is over.

Again, thank you Democrats. Now I can plan my financial future accordingly.

I'm an Obama supporter who really did think Clinton was the better choice to bring the party back together.

Before you hate me for it, remember the time before the primaries really got going and we all LOVED the thought of Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama?

I miss that.

I like Hillary, but all of you babies that say you will vote for McCain just because she was not offered VP. Short sighted and sad !!!!

CNN your title is wrong "CNN confirms: Obama Names Biden as DEM VP". Technically, Obama has not named Biden until he officially delivers the speech to America. It may be true that Obama has picked or selected Biden.

jane in CA   August 23rd, 2008 1:10 am ET

Those who want to write in Hillary's name, why don't you write her a check instead.

Robert W   August 23rd, 2008 1:10 am ET

All HRC supporters are welcome in the Republican fold. Come on over and vote for McCain so that you do not get thrown under the Obama bus like everyone else this year. If Obama does not win in November his political carreer will be over and that is a good thing. Everyone is tired of his message of change, while offering the same empty rhetoric.

McCain '08

Lisa B.   August 23rd, 2008 1:10 am ET

As a lifelong dem, I will not vote Obama.
Without Clinton on the ticket, McCain has my vote.

Ted   August 23rd, 2008 1:10 am ET

Biden is the best choice bar none. For the airhead Dems who say they will vote for McCain, be sure you keep your house payments current on hyoujr one house, and don't go on more than 3 days vacation without taking out job insurance. You are a sham to Hillary and to the Democratic party. If you think you are getting even, I would only ask ….with who? The answer is in your mirror.

HILLARY HILLARY HILLARY   August 23rd, 2008 1:10 am ET

Whoops they just went over the edge.

Gail AL.   August 23rd, 2008 1:08 am ET

Obama's whole campaign has been about change, Joe Biden does not represent change so it's back to old politic's. If MCcain puts a woman on his ticket, he will win, and probable win anyway. Obama had the chance to have 18 million voters thrown in his lap., but couldn't cross his own party lines to make amends with Hillary, so how is he going to work with the republicians, he's not, so it's politics as usual. The congress want get anything done, just as it is now.

curtis   August 23rd, 2008 1:08 am ET

Wise Choice, Barack. We're behind you to the whitehouse!!!!
Cnn post!!!

timber (ex dem)   August 23rd, 2008 1:08 am ET

Wow, what a disaster! It just keeps getting worse. What is the problem with democrats???! Do they NOT want to win the Whitehouse? They make it easy for the Republicans. They are their own worse enemy.

Really?   August 23rd, 2008 1:08 am ET

At least he's interesting.

Obama is starting to be a bit of a windbag.

Maryann   August 23rd, 2008 1:08 am ET

While I'll be thrilled if this is true, shame on you CNN for spoiling the surprise.

Brad   August 23rd, 2008 1:08 am ET

Although I really like Joe Biden, this still will not make me vote for that socialist, Obama.

McCain/Clinton 08

Lizzy in a Tizzy   August 23rd, 2008 1:08 am ET

Is a shame Hillary supporters are being such 'sore losers' IN MY opinion — Hillary has too much baggage so wake

AND I HOPE THIS POSTS …. IS A SHAME that CNN has to rain on Obama's parade…. ALL FOR THE STORY….. is a shame you have this need to blow a person's plan….

BIDEN is the BEST choice…. Hillary is a better Senator than she would be a president… WE NEED to change the greed in Washington

BRAVO Senator Obama and Senator Biden….

Arkansas Undertaker   August 23rd, 2008 1:08 am ET

I still want Hillary Clinton!!!!

Tim   August 23rd, 2008 1:07 am ET

Well, look at it this way. Hillary has been screwing people for long, it's about time she got it. Vote Nader!

Lori from TX   August 23rd, 2008 1:07 am ET

Hmm, the VP is more experienced than the Presidential candidate. Not sure what Obama was thinking in making this choice.

Yes Biden has the foreign policy experience but it just highlights the fact that Obama doesn't. I don't think this was a smart move by Obama.

Seam, Philly   August 23rd, 2008 1:07 am ET

OBiden 08′

Jack   August 23rd, 2008 1:07 am ET

I demand a McCain & Ron Paul ticket! RP is the only one who could reverse the suckiness of McCain.

John D. Simpson   August 23rd, 2008 1:07 am ET

I, too, am wondering what the heck happened to the text message.

And frankly, disappointed that Clinton wasn't dealt with properly.

Obama seems to be campaigning to not lose rather than to win. Democrats may be sorry, ultimately.

California Voter   August 23rd, 2008 1:07 am ET

And with that choice, it's NOOBAMA. for me What voters is Biden going to bring in?????? His being on the ticket is supposed to do what???? What happened to his message of change??? Is he trying to tell me that Biden is not a Washington insider? Frankly, to me it was a gutless choice. The man is afraid of Hillary!

jprieto   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

I would have voted for Obama if Clinton had been his VP choice. Not any more. I will now vote for MC Cain.

caforjoe   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

I was not excited about Obama or HRC, but would have voted Dem anyway. Now that he's chosen Biden…who I've always maintained was the best Dem choice for Pres…I will work hard to get Obama elected. Thanks Barack…Joe is Right, and how you'll have him as a trusted partner. We are behind you both.

James   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

While early this seems to be a very disappointing and anticlimactic choice, Obama is running as the change candidate and yet he chooses a Veteran of the Senate who is known as the "walking gaffe" machine very disappointing that he didn't choose someone who would be more consistent with his change message

Tom   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

All you Write In Hillary / PUMAs are the dumbest people on the planet.

Cole   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

What happened to "text message" will happen to "change" too.

HILLARY IS THE BEST   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

So, our ticket is…Obama bin Biden?

Anonymous   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

I like Biden more than Richardson. And thank god John Edwards is no longer an issue. Ick.

Always a Hillary supporter, but I will listen to Obama. (It may take an act of God to vote for him, but I'll listen.)

Hopefully, some of his supporters will stop the hatred. So tired of it.

V Saxena   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

Awww man… I'm really disappointed. I support Obama's decision, but I am not happy with it. He has drastically decreased his chance of winning this election. Obama/Hillary would have been the most powerful, unique, and revolutionary presidential team in American history. Sighs… if another Republican wins AGAIN, I'm moving to the Netherlands!

Paul   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

Text message – LOL – what a joke. Kudos to CNN for throwing a monkeywrench in this laughable idea by Obama. I do feel kind of sorry for the guy who is all upset because he wanted the text message – oh well that is what you can expect from Obama – a lot of rhetoric but no successful implementation.

Brian from Michigan   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

Great pick Barack.
As for all these Hillary whiners. 1/4 are sour grape losers, go ahead and vote for McSame. The other 3/4 are republican trying to create a controversy.

Jessie Mae   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

To Allen who wrote:

WRITE in HILLARY…

1st time not voting for a democrate since 1981.
I would rather have 8 more years of Bush than 4 years of Obama

Get it over it. Clinton lost buddy! Please let it go and stop being a sore loser! You go on and vote for McBush! You weren't a true democrat in 1981 and neither are you now!!!!!

greg   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

Excellent judgement; I was worried Obama would blow it. WOW now look out Johnny Sydney McCain. Biden will have the dual position of secretary of State

Trang, Fremont, CA   August 23rd, 2008 1:06 am ET

All right. Good choice. Now, I am excited again. He was my 2nd choice.

Both tells the truth, what's on their mind. One is experienced, who knows the inside ropes of Washington, the other is young, full of hope and energy to inspire a new generation of Americans, who is ready to pitch in and turn this country around. That's why his supporters are enthusiastic and willing to make the contributions and sacrifices.

Tiffany   August 23rd, 2008 1:05 am ET

If that's true, that's pretty lame that Obama didn't follow through to keep his commitment to text people. As a younger voter, that wanted Hillary for VP, I've waited to see him keep commitments to her supporters and work towards earning our votes. He really wasted my time with all the hype. Not cool.

Tim   August 23rd, 2008 1:05 am ET

At least it's not Sharpton or Jackson.

Writing in Hillary on November Ballot   August 23rd, 2008 1:05 am ET

Plagiarism……that is Biden's middle name.

I think Obama just gave McCain the presidency.

Robledon   August 23rd, 2008 1:05 am ET

Those who don't support Obama at this stage are secretly working with the Republicans. Don't let them confuse you.

If they don't give their names, and addresses you must suspect them. Now they want to find fault with Biden. Tell them go to hell, no one is perfect.

Whiners can complain all they want while they cry nearby their cell phones. Good job on getting the scoop on this story.

Hallais   August 23rd, 2008 1:05 am ET

Senator Obama just lost mine and another 9 milions votes …

Carl from MI   August 23rd, 2008 1:05 am ET

Yeah, Team Obama!!! Hurray for the GOOD GUYS!!

Sen. Biden is a great American, brings a lot of experience to the position, and won't take anything from the Republican Slime Machine.

WAKE UP, AMERICA… LET FREEDOM RING!!! IT WILL SOON BE INDEPENDANCE DAY FROM THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION AND THE START OF A NEW ERA FOR THE USA. GOD BLESS US, EVERYONE!!

VOTE SMART… NOT SENILE!!!!

Robert in Albuquerque   August 23rd, 2008 1:05 am ET

SO much for that message of CHANGE and Washinton is broken. He picks a senator that was elected waaaaay backkkk in 1972. Obama, you broke your promise before even getting into the White House. You've lost my vote.

chris   August 23rd, 2008 1:05 am ET

with Hillary, obama could have had a chance……..now, he cannot win in November….

Michigan Voter !!!   August 23rd, 2008 1:04 am ET

What?!   August 23rd, 2008 1:04 am ET

Biden? He's one of the biggest Wishington insiders of the democratic party, what happened to Obama's message of change?

I think Obama just lost my vote

Matthew   August 23rd, 2008 1:04 am ET

Obama/Biden will never beat McCain/Romney.

Oh, Democrats– get a clue!

Robert   August 23rd, 2008 1:03 am ET

Doesnt matter, Obama is still WRONG for america.

David in Illinois   August 23rd, 2008 1:03 am ET

Good choice, Sen. Obama. Thank GOODNESS it wasn't Hillary. Not that we ever thought it would be. Now her 18 million bitter followers can go home to McBush… if that's what they want. If they truly want change and not spite, the Obama/Biden ticket welcomes them. If not, get lost!!

chris   August 23rd, 2008 1:03 am ET

the best interests of my family comes before all else, and I am thus obligated to vote for the one candidate I know will be the best President: Senator Hillary Clinton

carolinas   August 23rd, 2008 1:03 am ET

Congratulations: Obama and Biden 2008.

A good choice for the country's economic and national security policies.

I AM THRILLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a fantastic team!

Obama/Biden 2008!

kevin   August 23rd, 2008 1:03 am ET

What a poor choice. I am a devout Clinton supporter and how can you not select her as vp? She won the popular democratic vote. How can you not select who somone who won more democrats votes? This was a huge mistake. You now have lost the majority of Hillary supporters. What a mistake. Party divided. Go PUMA. Hillary 2012.

Domi   August 23rd, 2008 1:03 am ET

Anyone who is still a Hillary backer is a fool. You all are ruining the world. Get over it! She lost fair and square!

Unshrub   August 23rd, 2008 1:03 am ET

It's still speculation.

Matthew   August 23rd, 2008 1:03 am ET

Now let's see just how many people would rather choose the polar opposite of Hillary instead of the person who beat her running on the exact same platform. Health Care, Iraq, the economy, the two senators are very much the same breed when it comes to what they both think is best for the country, it's just too bad that so many people will choose to let their personal vendettas get in the way of ensuring that the change they hoped for from Hillary isn't accomplished by the man that beat her.

Biden a Solid Choice!   August 23rd, 2008 1:03 am ET

Congrats to Obama. He has made a solid choice. Biden is a team
player who will put the interests of "real" Americans first. I look forward
to the next few months as the "rulers" of America frantically try to save
"their" fascist state. True "freedom" for literally millions of Americans is only a few months away. Go America!!!

Wise young elder   August 23rd, 2008 1:03 am ET

HILLARY 2012   August 23rd, 2008 1:02 am ET

I waffle back and forth between laughing so hard my side is aching, cussing and screaming at what has happened to the Democratic party, and wallowing in at least four more years of misery.

Bush was “The Decider.” Obama has promoted himself as “Decider II.”

Obviously, people haven’t learned from eight years of Bush’s incompetence. They apparently need at least four more years.

Obama & Biden = Laurel & Hardy

E   August 23rd, 2008 1:02 am ET

alexa, you obviously are not a true democrat if you will vote against everything the democrats stand for.

pathetic.

Allen   August 23rd, 2008 1:02 am ET

and this is where the Republicans say – "but, but, but McCain was a POW" – and the Obama campaign responds, "it's over, you're done."

LET'S KEEP IT REAL   August 23rd, 2008 1:02 am ET

THIS IS GREAT! NOW WE CAN FOCUS ON OBAMA AND THE RACE PUTTING HILLARY AND "HER SUPPORTERS" (THOSE THAT INSIST ON MAKING THINGS HARDER FOR OBAMA AND THE DEM. PARTY AND PROBABLY WON'T VOTE FOR HIM ANYWAY). NOW THEY REALLY NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT ANY FARTHER DEMOSTRATIONS OR PROTESTS WILL ONLY SERVE TO LABEL HILLARY AS A SPOILER. NOW EVERYTHING POINTS TO OBAMA AND THE UNDERSTANDING THAT EITHER YOU ARE TRULY WITH HIM OR AGAINST HIM AND CAN NO LONGER HIDE BEHIDE EXCUSES THAT MAKES ANY DIFFERENCES AT THIS POINT.

EITHER YOU VOTE OBAMA OR YOU DON'T, BUT EITHER WAY GET SOMEWHERE AND SHUT UP ABOUT HILLARY SHE IS OUT THIS TIME AND IF YOU CONTINUE TO FORCE HER ON US YOU CAN BE SURE THAT IT WILL NEVER GO GOOD FOR HER IN THE FUTURE AND IF YOU CONTINUE TO INTERFER WITH NEGATIVITY AGAINST OBAMA AND GOD FORBID HE LOSSES HILLARY IS SURLY DONE.

I SUGGEST "HILLARY SUPPORTERS ALL PITCH IN AND PAY HER DEBT, THE DEBT SHE GOT BECAUSE OF HER LOVE FOR YOU (SO SHE SAID" LOVE HER BACK IN MORE THAN WORDS SHOW THE MONEY! STOP NEEDING SO MUCH ATTENTION IT WILL ONLY TURN AGAINST YOU AS IT ALREADY HAS!

Frank   August 23rd, 2008 1:02 am ET

This is a perfect match. Why vote for that crazy republican anyways? He seriously said that he would have to get back to a reporter because he didn't know how many houses he owned. Can't wait for a crisis situation if that nut is elected in. Is he going to then say during a crisis: I am going to have to get back to you?

Dallas   August 23rd, 2008 1:02 am ET

Stupid Obama! Way to divide the party even more. Hillary would have been the best VP.

Tim in Canada   August 23rd, 2008 1:02 am ET

Juan Rivera   August 23rd, 2008 1:01 am ET

MaryJoy   August 23rd, 2008 1:01 am ET

Come on CNN. Let Senator Obama tell us who he has selected. We know he isn't giving you a private scoop.

Lawton   August 23rd, 2008 1:01 am ET

I'm glad Obama made his decision based on who would truly be his best VP and bring the most to the table, instead of making a poll-based decision in order to appease all these PUMAs.

Ray   August 23rd, 2008 1:01 am ET

Congrads to Biden. He is a good pick. He has a lot of experience, can debate effectively off of the teleprompter, and he has a lot of spirit. He fills in some of Obama's gaps pretty well. They will be hard to beat.

Allen Richards   August 23rd, 2008 1:01 am ET

I'll believe it when I get the text message. But I will laugh my head off if it turns out to be someone that the media wasn't even talking about. I honestly doubt CNN has really confirmed this, and is probably just "narrowing it down" because the other two guys are supposedly out of the running.

Anonymous   August 23rd, 2008 1:01 am ET

Indiana Bob   August 23rd, 2008 1:00 am ET

Great!! As a lifelong Democrat, I know of a few skeletons in Biden's closet. Maybe he will help bring down The Obama and the hate-filled radicals who hi-jacked the Democratic Party. I will be doing my part. And for the Obamabots who keep insisting that PUMA Democrats pay down Hillary's debt. We can pay it down after the election. Right now our money is better spent supporting McCain. I am not bitter about Hillary losing. I am bitter about how Obama won. Obama and his cult must be stopped before they goose-step their way to the white house. That didn't work so well in Germany.

PUMA — Vote McCain

Rodney D ~ Texas   August 23rd, 2008 1:00 am ET

Hooray!

Doesn't Barry know that he cannot win the White House without carrying the South?

He stands virtually no chance with Biden, another northern liberal democrat, on the ticket.

What a buffoon.

Democrats lets unite and get that IDIOT BUSH out of the White House!

Obama/Biden '08!

Jeremy-Columbus, OH   August 23rd, 2008 12:59 am ET

Big mistake Obama, in my opinion. All this anticipation for Biden???????? What a waste of energy really, on the part of many who were waiting for someone to energize democrats. Congrats McCain you just won this election, democrats might as well realize this now.

Gerrie   August 23rd, 2008 12:59 am ET

Another 4 years of a Republican White House and $5 a gallon gas by next summer.

Jason from Tucson   August 23rd, 2008 12:59 am ET

I like Biden better than I like Obama. He has good foreign policy experience. Too bad he isn't the Democratic PRESIDENTIAL nominee, and not running mate. Still voting for McCain.

Ken   August 23rd, 2008 12:59 am ET

no surprise after all. I would like to see how things goes in convention and Clinton supporters will react.. new polls will tell all..

Now McCain should select someone more conservative like Jindal or Romney (not so much) but not the pro ones..

matt   August 23rd, 2008 12:59 am ET

so much for the text message first. Leak, Leak.

Greg   August 23rd, 2008 12:59 am ET

Hmmm. Not an impressive decision. He picks an older white male professional politician. That's it? This is going to be a Republican cake walk. All McCain has to do is pick a conservitive female to seal the deal for a blowout. Just about any of the names being suggested could ensure a win, but the female would make it a landslide.

sky dog   August 23rd, 2008 12:59 am ET

Biden to the Brookings Institution in 2005: “We can call it quits and withdraw from Iraq. I think that would be a gigantic mistake. Or we can set a deadline for pulling out, which I fear will only encourage our enemies to wait us out — equally a mistake.”

Don't hate on Obama feminists and guys who wanted Hillary to be selected. She had too much baggage from the past and that included Bill and Obama knows it would have been one Republican distraction after another with her to stop the message of change with our economy, job losses, foreclosures, and getting our guys and gals out of Iraq before Russia attacks us. I'm so glad it's Biden, I could just sh!t!!

Is this the change and new school, a.k.a., no Washington insiders, that Obama promised us? While I like Biden, he has been on the D.C. scene for decades and voted for the war in Iraq. Just another example of Obama's flip-flop personality. Oh well, kiss the election goodbye, Senators Obama and Biden.

Austin Wall   August 23rd, 2008 12:53 am ET

Well the Democrats are screwed now. The Dem. ticket now has two very intelligent men. America is so used to idiots running our country that we do not know how to vote for smart guys.

Tim, Seattle   August 23rd, 2008 12:50 am ET

NTurner   August 23rd, 2008 12:50 am ET

It sucks how Obama tried to use Hillary Clinton, then pickd Biden.

He just lost my vote.

Georgia for Change   August 23rd, 2008 12:49 am ET

I'm not doubting CNN, but it's only legit when Obama sends me the text. It's 12:48 A. M. Let Larry go to sleep.

Michael   August 23rd, 2008 12:49 am ET

As a Republican may I be the first to say. YES!!!!!!!!

Shirley C   August 23rd, 2008 12:49 am ET

My prayers have been answered! McSame can't hold a candle on foreign affairs with Biden nor can anyone he picks come close. Biden will eat them both for breakfast. This is now going to be fun.

Alexa   August 23rd, 2008 12:49 am ET

He's the right Man...   August 23rd, 2008 12:49 am ET

Congratulations Obama, you have a good man, I wanted you two to team up from the first debate. Yes we can !!!!!

Adam   August 23rd, 2008 12:49 am ET

Wonderful selection for Barack Obama. He's shown us now from his first most important decision during his campaign for President of the United States that he is indeed ready to lead the country.

Jamie from San Francisco   August 23rd, 2008 12:48 am ET

Bring it on home, Biden! For those choosing NOT to vote, if you don't participate, you should have no say about what goes on in this country and you give up your privilege to be an American. Vote!

Brady   August 23rd, 2008 12:48 am ET

This is what we need; a "pitbull" who's not afraid to go after McBush and his cronies!

Allen   August 23rd, 2008 12:48 am ET

WRITE in HILLARY…
I WILLNOT VOTE Obama
1st time not voting for a democrate since 1981.

Jake   August 23rd, 2008 12:47 am ET

Thank you CNN, for ruining the whole text message thing. Who are these "two sources" who keep ruining everything tonight? God dammit. I wanted to wake up and be surprised.

CNN, the most nosy name in news.

anonymous   August 23rd, 2008 12:47 am ET

Desiree   August 23rd, 2008 12:46 am ET
