(CNN) - John McCain’s campaign – which regularly cites Hillary Clinton’s primary season criticism of Barack Obama - gave a hint early Saturday they might use the same approach against an Obama-Biden ticket.

“There has been no harsher critic of Barack Obama’s lack of experience than Joe Biden,” said McCain spokesman Ben Porritt, in a statement sent to reporters shortly after multiple sources told CNN the presumptive Democratic nominee had selected the Delaware senator as his running mate.

“Biden has denounced Barack Obama’s poor foreign policy judgment and has strongly argued in his own words what Americans are quickly realizing - that Barack Obama is not ready to be President.”

So let me see if I get thiis straight you Pumas..... Hillary lost and you are so upset about it that you would support a man who wants to make Bush's tax cuts pemanent, end legal abortion and stay in Iraq for 100s of years. Bushy McSame sings about bombing Iran. Are you sure you really for Hillary to begin with or are you all just Republicans in a Trojan horse? Get over yourselves. Hillary was fine candidate. I voted for her. But look at her policy ideas. Who can advance them? John McCain? No wake up and grow up.

I can only say...

GREAT Choice. This will slam McBush completely.
HEY and you PUMA-Freaks...
C`mon... you really think Hillary had any chance of winning the election, if she gets the nomination at the convention? She would raise hell, and you know it. 90% of the Blacks are voting for Obama, also the majority of the young people. What do you think would happen at America´s streets???

Think about it, guys.

Obama/Biden 2008 :)

I agree with that Obama has the right to choose whoever he wants... I don't like the choice but it is his right choose who he wants...

How he did it gives us a preview of what kind of leader he will be!!!!!!!! The fact that he told HC late Friday night was cowardly!! It is a view into the character of the man......

Biden?

OK... President dies, Biden takes over? WRONG...

Biggest mistake Obama has made so far. I am pretty sure McCain is happy.

Lost my vote B.H.

awesome news   August 23rd, 2008 7:09 am ET

To the Clinton supporters: How can Obama lose an election when you are the morons that won't vote for him? His policies are 95% the same as hers. Instead you will cross over and vote for the opposite and you think that the 18 million Obama supporters will support her in 2012. Being from Canada I always said Americans were dumb!!!

paul   August 23rd, 2008 7:08 am ET

One thing is for sure that they can't continue making fun of McCain's age now that Biden is on the ticket and is only 5 years his junior. Sad thing is that Obama has now proven he is weak in experience and with his MANTRA of CHANGE because I believe that Biden has been and if not longer as long as John McCain in politics. And he has as many scandals brewing.

Oh, and a CAFFE maker with more issues than any of "I don't know how many houses I own" McCain. Shall we all remember his Indians/7-Eleven comment OR his 'clean and articulate' comments.

YIPPPEEEE for a fun fun ride now for president even more fun than Kerry/Bush or Gore/Bush.

I love how people think that if they don't like the outcome of something, they can plead and whine and complain until it changes. Is our adult population filled with people who still think like children? Some decisions are set in stone...people aren't always going to be around to bail you out when something doesn't go your way. Wait until 2012 when you get another chance (if Hillary even decides to run then at all - have you bothered to check with her?).

Hillary is a great female leader, but she lost the nomination. Be an adult and stop throwing temper tantrums about her losing. You're making yourself look bad.

I like the pick. Biden was my original second choice back when this thing began. He's smart, engaging, articulate, and smart as a tack. He knows issues, both foreign and domestic back and forward. He'll be an excellent vice presidential choice and a key member of an Obama administration. I like it.

cheryl   August 23rd, 2008 6:56 am ET

McCain should ask Clinton to run with him that would be a change, it's pretty obvious Obama already doesn't care what the people think or Clinton would have been his choice.

Wade, start coming home in body bags after being mangled beyond recognition, after being used as fodder for the Republican war machine, remember that the spite vote you are about to place, put them there.

CanadianMoose   August 23rd, 2008 6:54 am ET

Here is my two cents worth.

FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS THE US HAD AN INEXPERIENCED
PRESIDENT WITH REGARDS TO FOREIGN POLICY.
FOREIGN POLICY WAS DEFINED BY VP DICK CHENEY.
AND OTHERS.
OBAMA WANTED CHANGE.
THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN FOR ANOTHER 8 YEARS.
BIDEN WILL DEFINE THE US FOREIGN POLICY.

The US will still not have a commander in chief if
the democrats are elected.

Right now I think that McCain who does not need a Washington
insider will win.

And that is good because I am conservative.

And I support Stephen Harper.

VOTE McCAIN 2008
VOTE HARPER 2008.

Obama selcted a wise man to advise him! Congrats. Biden and bring a new chapter in the White House.

Hillary supporters are crying funny here. They claim the number 18Million all the time but more than half of them support Obama because they respect the party.

No Hillary supporters are ready with five dollars to help her to retire her debts.

Obama/Biden combine is a new era in the American politics and bring pride back to Amrica.

The Bush Twins : George and John   August 23rd, 2008 6:52 am ET

It's hard to believe some of the comments I'm reading here. Do people actually believe Hillary still has thos "18 Million" votes behind her ?. Sure there may be some that are still hilding on, but I've talked with quite a few people that were Hillary supporters but are now backing Obama. Why ?. Because they believe in what she believed in and they understan that she and Sen. Obama were indeed vwery much alike on many issues. Has noone been listening to what Sen. Clinton has been saying in these past few week ?. Reading comments from people that say they have been democrates all their lives but are now going to vote McCain because she is not on the ticket, what are you people thinking ?. You weren't true democrates then were you ?. Or there is the real possibilty that you'ra just a bunch of Republican trolls trying to convience the rest of us that we might lose this election and we should go ahead and switch sides. No way !. I'm not in for 4-8 more years of disgusting government, a war we don't belong in and the possibilty of future unnecessary wars. Not to mention where we are now economically speaking, thank you Bush !.

Sly   August 23rd, 2008 6:51 am ET

McCain all the way. I guess all the 18 million Clinton supporters will now be voting for my man McCain. And for all those women who keep harping about their reproductive and womens right to choose.....well I guess you are willing to cut your nose to spite your face.....lol
We are all Georgians!!!!!!

Spider   August 23rd, 2008 6:51 am ET

Jeb-

Where were you during the Democratic primary debates? Biden was non-existent and Obama can only stutter without a teleprompter. Now that it's General Election time, the only one Biden will debate is McCain's Vice Presidential running mate.
Those supporters of the Obomination that are looking forward to the debates are in for a sad awakening.

Boomer for CHANGE   August 23rd, 2008 6:50 am ET

This is more proof of Sen. Obama's good judgement!!!

For all of you diehard Clinton supporters who think Sen. Obama cannot win without Sen. Clinton on the ticket, you fail to consider how big her negatives are. She would energize the Republicans and appeasing you would be the only plus. If you care about your country, it is time to stop licking your wounds and prepare to win your country back! Let's end this nightmare!!!! OBAMA/BIDEN 08

and for the puma-oxy-rush operation chaos mutants–hillary WONT have any chance in 2008 or 2012 or ever no matter who wins this election..she didnt lose because she is a woman or because it was stolen from her. she lost because she showed the country how she operates! VOTE OBAMA-BIDEN!!

dan   August 23rd, 2008 6:48 am ET

The Obama camp needs to start airing all the harsh things McCains current puppet-Romney said about McCain in the past. That will probably shut the McCain up real quickly....

pat C.   August 23rd, 2008 6:46 am ET

thank god it was not hillary clinton. the obama supporters could not afford to pay off her debts that her puma idiots refused to do.
maybe now they will go away and play with old man McCain for awhile. we don't need them.
i can't wait for the republicans to start their airing of biden saying negative things about our new president because i remember romney slaudered McCain as well in the debates and obama will not hesitate to run the same ugly type ads to counteract the old coot.
nothing is going to stop us from electing barack obama for president this year. YES WE CAN!!

Florida Democrat   August 23rd, 2008 6:46 am ET

This is just the beginning... makes you worry that Barack wants the republicans to win and is embarrased by his choice (who announces at 3am on a Saturday?

Cynthia   August 23rd, 2008 6:45 am ET

Did McCain forget that Mitt Romney attacked him as well and we all know that he will pick Mitt.

J   August 23rd, 2008 6:43 am ET

I am disappointed. If BO had no intention of picking Clinton he should have had the gonads to say so a long time ago rather than string us along all this time. It's sad for anyone to believe Clinton's supporters are a handful of irate women – and the proof will come out in November. While I can hold my nose and vote for this ticket as Biden was one of those who put it on the line by running a campaign, I will not contribute any time, money or effort toward it. Have a great convention – I won't be watching.

I HAVE A QUESTION?   August 23rd, 2008 6:42 am ET

What state do you PUMAs and Hillary supporters live in where you can write her name in? I REALLY want to know this because in my state, there is no place to write a candidates name in, our ballots are electronic and only the candidates who are running can be selected. Please, can somebody answer this question for me? Each time I read these blogs, I see a few people threatening to write in Hillary's name for the presidential election, so I would really like to know how this is done and how it counts toward Hillary being elected if she's not on the ticket to run?

Danny   August 23rd, 2008 6:41 am ET

The Clinton supporters on here really disappoint me. I doubt most of these people are truly Democrats, as a real Dem would understand that the candidates were close on most issues and voting for McCain is a vote against everything we stand for.

Fortunately I believe there are many Republicans who are sick of their party trashing our Constitution and country and will be crossing over to the Democratic side as well. So before you vote, just look at the two candidates who WON the nominating process (delegates, popular vote) and chose the one that best represents your views. Otherwise, if you are voting out of spite for one person, have fun and enjoy 8 more years of the same (if Clinton is seen as a spoiler this year, there is NO chance she will be nominated or win in 2012).

sandy   August 23rd, 2008 6:40 am ET

No one wanted Biden in 88 when he ran, he also dropped this year because he was loosing. Now you want him as a VP???Clinton just got slapped yet again. She deserved to be VP, yet got nothing. She has been slapped over and over. Ya know what they say, he who laughs last, laughs best. But better yet, A woman scorned....she is just beginning folks. Alot may yet happen. But she will laugh when he goes down. He will too. No chance in my book. Biden by the way is 5 years younger than gran pops. Big deal.Democrats shot themselves in the foot yet another four years. he is not electable, no vote from me.

kalliope   August 23rd, 2008 6:37 am ET

Unfortunately "not this time", it is attitudes like yours that have pushed the needle back for women. Learning how to lose is a trait, and pick yourself back up and get into the game is key to being contender. Get over it, do you really want 4 more years of Republicans in the White House. Frankly, we cannot afford it.

Ted Shelton   August 23rd, 2008 6:37 am ET

Just a guess – McCain team wrote one press release with the name of the VP candidate left open - then when the announcement came out, inserted Biden's name.

Can't they come up with something more thoughtful than "There has been no harsher critic.." ? I mean, its not even true. Clinton was clearly Obama's harshest critic.

I guess I have lived in California for too long. I just cannot imagine what motivates anyone to believe that McCain would be a good president. And yet there are the polls saying that roughly half of our great nation want McCain and his promise to:

(1) reduce taxes for the rich
(2) continue to wage war in the middle east
(3) further destroy America's reputation in the world
(4) support anti-competitive policies in telecommunications
(5) undermine our basic freedoms

Rather than the name calling etc, I'd love to hear why McCain's supporters believe he would be a good leader for our country. For the life of me, I can't understand at all.

Just Me   August 23rd, 2008 6:37 am ET

I think the only thing that partisan politics does is divide US all. Read the notes here. We aren't one people, one nation.... we are more divided then ever. Our forefathers would role in their graves if they could see what the Democrat/Repubilicans have done to our politics. The cream of the crap is what we get with both parties. Maybe it's time that a third party comes in and breaks the strangle hold these two parties have on our political system. There are a whole lot of people who aren't ultra -liberal or ultra-conservative that don't have a voice. Perhaps it's time they speak out.

Oh please. Barack chose someone who is smart, adds to his ticket and more importantly, is someone he likes/gets along with. McCain will probablky choose Romney, the biggest flip-flopper from the primary, someone he dislikes, but he things it'll give him some credibilty on the economy...which is STUPID. Romney was a terrible Governor and as a venture capitalist sent more jobs overseas at any cost, to make himself as much money as possible.
Now that's a smart choice to help America.
I'm ready for smart, thoughtful leadership. Obama/Biden '08

Daniel Wagle   August 23rd, 2008 6:33 am ET

As I posted on ABC as an ardent Hillary supporter, I really believe this pick is in Hillary's interest. For one, if they lose, she could come back in four years. Losing V.P. candidates like Lieberman and Edwards seem to get no where getting the presidential nomination. Of course she must campaign for Obama now, and PUMAS should be quiet, so Hillary would not be blamed for his loss. Obama also picked someone, kind of like Cheney, who would not compete for the presidential nomination in 2016 against Hillary should Obama win two terms. Also, sitting Vice Presidents are rarely elected president. If people are unhappy with Obama in any way at the end, it would be harder to tar Hillary with those faults, since she wasn't the VP. If people are completely happy with Obama at the end, it will be to Hillary's benefit, and Biden will not be competing with her to reap those benefits. McCain probably would not have had a chance had he been Bush's Vice President, which, even in that case had he been picked, would have also made it easier to tar him as the 3rd Bush term.

len2052   August 23rd, 2008 6:32 am ET

HRC should bring it on at the convention, forget turning her delegate to the "one"

Kay   August 23rd, 2008 6:31 am ET

I am honestly shocked. I can not believe a candidate who claims to be so "in touch" with American people would turn his back on the 80+ million democrat voters who supported Hillary Clinton. This VP selection is a slap in the face to every one of us and the Democrats have once again shot themselves in the foot. Millions of us will be staying home (or voting Republican) on election day. Way to go.

I have thing to say I think this is a Great pick Biden can really lay into the reb attack machine. The White House is Our in 08. go Obama\Biden 08.

Now let's talk about this Hillary thing she may have had a chane to be is Vice but she and her staff blow it. why because they could not think fast enough to pick a taking point or define who she was. Don't get me wrong but I'm really tired of hearing about the CLinton's their time has come and now it's gone. It's a time for change and real change is coming. I think a song title comes to mind right now with this pick and it goes like this "Who let the DOGS out" DEMS in 08

Mark Billingsley   August 23rd, 2008 6:25 am ET

Do any of you Obama haters truly understand politics? During campaigns you have to try to distance yourself from the others so you can tell the American people why you are the best. Remember Bush and the crap he pulled on McCain in 2000? Now they're best buddies. Heck, they kissed and hugged in 2004. To the Hillary supporters, first off DONATE and secondly, you say you wanted Hillary but what she said about Obama during the primaries was MUCH MUCH worse than what Biden said about Obama. So how do you ding Biden but not Hillary? Look at the greatest presidents in our history and ask yourself how much experience they had before becoming president. Lincoln had two years as a representative and I think we can all agree that he turned out pretty good. You know why? because Lincoln possessed a fierce intellect and great judgment. Obama has both of those qualities too.

Steve in Albuquerque, NM   August 23rd, 2008 6:25 am ET

At least Biden probably knows the difference between Shia and Shiite, and that Iraq does not share a border with Pakistan, like the oh so ready to lead McBush...

mj   August 23rd, 2008 6:22 am ET

BIG MISTAKE. He had 18 million Democratic voters (not all women, morons) at his disposal if he had gotten over himself and given the well deserved and earned place on the ticket to Hillary. Just another example of his POOR judgment. LOSER.

Bruce   August 23rd, 2008 6:22 am ET

Thank You Obama! Joe Biden?? This is perfect. I am positive that there will be no Bump in the Polls for Obama after this VP running mate decision. In fact, since there should be a small loss, which will continue to diminish, resulting in a Landside Victory for John McCain (and Mitt?). Thanks again Liberal Dems

Ron C   August 23rd, 2008 6:19 am ET

It's amazing that some want more of Bush policies and deceitful leadership by giving a hurrah to McCain. Have they not witnessed anything these last almost 8 years? Then again, he was given the Presidency by his cronies in Supreme Court which was NOT the vote of the people.

We need a leader, not a man who's only claim to fame is being a POW.

Kevin   August 23rd, 2008 6:16 am ET

To the guy from Florida stating that "Obama will lose because he is unexperienced." Obviously you are inexperienced in English. McCain is so old world and out of touch with reality. It's going to be a new world come November. One where the rest of the world will look at the United States in good light for once!

Randall   August 23rd, 2008 6:16 am ET

This McCain candidate is so out of touch with the people of this great country of America that he thinks that we all are totally ignorant to politics and his immature attacks on the Obama candidate. Obama could have chosen President George Bush as a ruuning mate and McCain would have conplained about foriegn policy experience.
CNN, please tell America, where & when have McCain achieved any foriegn experience at any level. None to my knowledge. Selecting a team member must strengthen the team, whether it is a business firm such as an engineering or architectueral business, an accounting firm, office of the vice president of the United States, or any law firm, just as examples.

Matt   August 23rd, 2008 6:08 am ET

The simple truth is that McCain can NOT win on the issues. WHY ? Because he has the same political views as Bush. So McCain's only strategy to win is to SCARE the voters to vote not FOR him, but to vote AGAINST Obama. If McCain was fit to be President, he would cut the negative campaigning and run on the issues. But he doesn't, so draw your own conclusion.

Pam   August 23rd, 2008 6:05 am ET

Absolutely disgusted in dems choice for VP – no change – another man

bill gordon   August 23rd, 2008 6:04 am ET

Bidens retorts and sarcasm, always seems to get the best of him.He will serve Barack best by low-keying it all through the ensuing campaign.Absolutely the man has the ability and quality to be President of the United States.

Truth   August 23rd, 2008 6:03 am ET

More Rovian fear and smear from McCain and his peeps....shocking. Porritt and McCain do not seem to understand the concept of balance, which Biden absolutely brings to Obama's VP.

As far as judgement, what was McCain thinking when he decided to use sacrilegious mockery for his political advertising not once, but TWICE?! Christians do NOT appreciate McCain's poor judgement disrespecting our faith. No thank you.

I CONGRATULATE OBAMA FOR NOT CHOOSING SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON AS A RUNNING MATE....

THERE WAS NO BETTER WAY TO SABOTAGE HIS ONLY HOPE TO BECOME ELECTABLE.

SENATOR HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT IN 2012 !!!

Matt   August 23rd, 2008 6:01 am ET

I get TIRED of hearing about Mc Cain getting a free ride on the issue of "experience". WHAT real relevant experience does McCain have over Obama, other than the fact McCain has OCCUPIED a chair in the Senate longer than Obama. McCain has more LONGEVITY than Obama, but what has he accomplished in all of his so-call "experience" ? I can't think of any thing.

Andrea   August 23rd, 2008 5:59 am ET

Well McCain better not pick Romney because he's said not so nice things about him in the primaries. It's all a part of the game. Give me a break if this is the route they go then it'll be over before it starts.

franke   August 23rd, 2008 5:55 am ET

Biden has already proved he is a LIAR! Not more than 24 hours ago he said "I'm not the man" This entire election is a joke!

johnny   August 23rd, 2008 5:51 am ET

obama is a no more for change than his pick. actions speak louder than words. im reconsidering my vote. hillary should have been our candidate! now we have a liar and a cheat on one ticket.

Grow UP   August 23rd, 2008 5:50 am ET

I have never seen so many sad people who is going through a Depression, but yet they are voting for McCain because of Hate....

Grow up and start acting like an adult.... this is not about you. This is about your children future. If you truly Love them you will vote Democrat.

And to Lisa: Don't blame Obama, there are so many out there that said they will not vote for him because of the hate in their hearts.

The Democrats can WIN this if we start thinking and come together.

Jim   August 23rd, 2008 5:48 am ET

do you know that all members of PUMA are from red states? which means their vote wouldn't make any difference.

Jim   August 23rd, 2008 5:45 am ET

That must mean they are not going to pick Romney then because do you remember some of his exchanges with McCain. Does it bother anyone else in this country how shameless Republicans are every 4 years?

Ndalio   August 23rd, 2008 5:44 am ET

Bush was sooo experience(his father was even president) where is our country today????

McCain doesn't have more experience than the Bush family!

Americans wake up.

All these smears from GOP should not scare us. We need new thinking! New ideas, new approaches!

Juan Pacheco   August 23rd, 2008 5:42 am ET

Obama just lost the Latino vote with that decision, also, it looks like it was a gesture for keeping divided the party. The choice of selecting the same man who said Obama was not ready for President, it will be painful. Just watch the next polls, sadly, Democrat party will lose numbers.

Matt   August 23rd, 2008 5:42 am ET

Obama 08 will be Great as Mccain is running for the gate.

benjamin   August 23rd, 2008 5:42 am ET

Let's say McCain wins in November, ( BECAUSE OBAMA WON'T )
and the Dems get a majority in congress... that woul keep things
pretty much in balance, am I right?

Now for a better picture- PICTURE THIS:

In 2012 there comes Senator HILLARY CLINTON,better than ever ,and wins the nomination -like it should have happened this time around-
Americans will have an intelligent, capable woman as president, and maybe then things may start to turn around for the better not only for America but for the- now- alienated world as well.

OBAMA WILL BE A THING OF THE PAST

SENATOR CLINTON; VOTERS DIDN'T SAY 'NO'; THEY SAID 'NOT YET'

James   August 23rd, 2008 5:40 am ET

I do not have comment on Biden, he maybe a big boost for the days ahead. But I feel really sorry that the Dems (including me!) will once again lose to the Repubs in Nov, 2008. My hope is that we (Dems) will take the White House back in 2012 (?). After all, the Osama's, ooops, Obama's cheerleaders, with their hate postings, from these blogs have helped destroyed the Dems' hope, ultimately. I also hope that someone, anyone, will eventually write a book titled "How to Raise a President 101" for the Dems Moms to read. Sad, sadly reallized that we cannot have a winnable candidate to beat even the all-time-worst President's tale.

Thank God Hillary is not on this God Forsaken ticket, NOW we know HE WILL LOSE in November!!!!
When he did not even consider Hillary he lost 18 million votes!!
I ask Latinos everywhere to vote smart....vote McCain!!!!!

OBAMA-BIDEN 08!

Mike Parker   August 23rd, 2008 5:26 am ET

Obama is looking more like Jack Kennedy all the time. Kennedy and his New Frontier picked Lynden Johnson as his Vice President. The Republicans said he would raise their taxes. Kennedy came in and lowered taxes to stymulate the economy. Obama knows we have problems the Washington Politicians have ignored for years. Health Care, Social Security, Energy and we need leadership to tackel these issues. Biden will help him get these issues through the Congress and will be a great advisor to Obama when it's needed. It's like drilling for oil, the Republicans make it sound so simple, but we know it isn't that simple. Obama is willing to drill, but will provide the leadership to push alternative energy. He may even ask us to turn our computers off when we go to bed, along with filling our tires. God Bless the United States of America.

I think that the grympy old man McCain should start talking about what he want. He talks like a warhunger that wants back the cold war, he is black/white in forregn politics, not with more fact talk like Biden. He wants big taxcuts for the most rich and cut in welfare for normal people, opposite than what he did in 01 and 02. That the soon 72 years old guy should be prepeard for President, when i dont even know how many houses he got. I think he is an old, black/white snob that should juse his last year relaxing instead of making the rest uf us shy. Bush for 8 years have been a test, and McCain is if possible even worse.

Sunil   August 23rd, 2008 5:07 am ET

I got a text from a number in INDIA stating that Joe Biden will be Obama's VP. Being Indian I immediately recognized the country code. Didn't he have something to say about Hillary for outsourcing and being too friendly with India?

Jim   August 23rd, 2008 5:00 am ET

Everyone knows that McCain trashed America during a pro-vietnamese propaganda film. He claims to be a patriot but he helped the enemy make propaganda that hurt our soldiers in vietnam? That is the definition of weak.

Armageddan is coming soon!!   August 23rd, 2008 4:57 am ET

For the last three months or so, everything McCluess does is predicated on what Obama is doing. It's like a lap dog sitting at his master's feet wagging its tail in anticipation for its next command. We rarely hear, if ever, what McBrainless' plans are for a brighter future for America. Rarely....

This is a quality I do not want in a POTUS. It occurs to me, that if Obama were to go away for a week or two, McLost and his campaign wouldn't know what to do. Instead of formulating ideas to bring this nation out of its obvious downward slide, McDuggle would sit around salivating at the mouth waiting for Obama to show back up.

This is the Republicans idea of moving forward. If they were to win the election they would sit around watching what the world is doing before they could figure out what they're next move would be. I mean, c'mon now can't they determine the direction they should be taking to help this nation instead of waiting and watching what the world was doing before they make a move? Its pathetic.

They're only clear objective that they are sure of is how to bleed this nation of more and more money. That's all they care about. How to stack their personal profits.

THIS IS NOT PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL. McClueless is the perfect example of a stooge with no direction of his own. All his moves are based on what the next man/country is doing. This is the guy a lot of Americans want in the WH.

That's your choice for president, a monkey do what monkey sees. A follow the leader type of man.

Yeah, a great leader he'll be.....NOT..

Tired   August 23rd, 2008 4:53 am ET

Why did Barack Obama wake me up at 3:00 in the morning? I forgot to turn off my cell last night. And I was really hoping he'd pick Hillary. Nice to see he jokes about her primary 3am phone call ad by waking me up. Doesn't really make me want to vote for him anymore, just as I was warming to the guy.

Navy   August 23rd, 2008 4:52 am ET

I am an Independent and I usually vote conservertive. This election I am voting for Obama. Why? First , this country needs a leader that will move this country in the forward. Mccain camp is relying on voters who are uneducated, narrow minded and affraid of change. This why he USA has lost its edge as a leader of the free world. Voters like PUMA, who think HIlliary is a better choice. Hilliary will never win because people will remember how she conducted herself afters she lost the nomination. She will need more than just the PUMA votes. PUMA will be the only votes she will get. PUMA is hurting her chances for wining anything in the future. Always judge a person when they are down, not when they are up.

Muyoyeta   August 23rd, 2008 4:51 am ET

Yes, and that's exactly the reason Biden is joing the ticket to bolster that perceived inexperience... big deal!

Patrick   August 23rd, 2008 4:50 am ET

I will make it quick the vp is and should be chosen becouse there a goob VP. not to win a state.

Tina   August 23rd, 2008 4:49 am ET

"BidenObama" sounds familiar to "ChaneyBush" ticket.

I believe that voters in this country are wiser than intellectual. Wise voters are found among blue & white collars, seniors, youth, college & non college educated, Christians & non Christians, men & women, etc.

Wisdom vs Intellectual. That's what an election should be about.
Thanks.

Central Jersey   August 23rd, 2008 4:46 am ET

Central Iowan... Edwards did not win his own home state for the Democrats in '04. You just want a weaker running mate from the South. Typical Republican... focusing on an insignificant weakness when he has so many strengths.

Have your election today before any of the candidates go on the campaign trail... honestly, that is the only way the Republicans will win

linda   August 23rd, 2008 4:43 am ET

Mccain talk about experience but he has never sited a situation where he held an executive position for him to give "commands' on foreign policies. In Vietnam he never did so he is no better than, Obama or anyone in Washington.

The best qualified people are Dick Cheney and Karl Rove who actually once held a position to give directions on foreign policies. They proved themselves over 2 decades.

ralph benno   August 23rd, 2008 4:42 am ET

I agree
it shows that Obama is just another political hypocryte.
he has chosen an insider when he did not want an insider.

Mr Biden is nothing else but a washington bull dog. Just full of hot air. Mr Obama is another flip fop politician

As a Hilary person. Mc Cain is my better choice.

Gene   August 23rd, 2008 4:41 am ET

I personally love the choice for Biden.. if it is Biden. I haven't heard the official announcement.

So Hillary supporters.. I only have one question for you. If you can tell one reason that she is more qualified than Biden... I'll be happy to listen. Saying she's more popular is not a reason to vote for her. So.. any actual rational thoughts.. or just screaming If NO Hillary, then we're voting McCain?

Team Obama and Biden looks like winners on all flanks.

The world will be getting two well educated men that love our nation, who will bring honor and faith to the Presidency. I believe that the world leaders will respect this administration and be willing to work together to solve world problems. A team is only as strong as its weakest link and I don’t see a weak link within this Team Obama and Biden.

LT for Obama   August 23rd, 2008 4:32 am ET

What I also find amazing is the fact that so many of you Clinton supporters keep going on and on about Obama disrespecting her. Exactly how did he do that? Was it when he was be respectful to her during the debates while she continued to hammer him? Or maybe it was when the MSM came out with the truth about her sniper fire story? Oh, I know, it was when she admitted to lying on national TV "I said things that I knew were not in keeping with what I knew was the truth." She even referenced her book and the fact that the correct story was in there.

Give me a break. She lost my respect the moment she went negative and continued to push against Obama with her tantrums, "Meet me in Ohio" "Shame on you, Barack Obama" and poorly run campaign.

You want proof that Obama is smart? Check out the various articles that layout the well oiled machine that he has put together vs. McCain and Clinton. Both have run their campaigns poorly and that, ultimately, is what killed her chances and will do the same for McCain.

No to McWar   August 23rd, 2008 4:28 am ET

Want to threaten if Hillary isnt picked does it make you feel good it sure sounds stupid.
Do you HRC fallowers that won't let up let others pick your friends ,who you socialize with at home or at your job ,who chums with your children, who you go out with ?/
Obama don't need you,me or anyone else to decide who he chooses to work with day after day for 4 years where are you coming from to think you do the choosing it sounds so elementary and won't vote unless he fallows your directions and choice.
Are you that uneducated to think you can boss others for your agenda which you never had from the beginning .
You sound like you are either in love or a stalker???

Obama/ Biden for Change, the Economy, Homeland Security— going after those responsible for the heinous attack on American soil, Unity of the nation for a Perfect Union,Health Care, Re-shaping America's image on the international front, Foreign Affairs, Diplomacy, and Hope.

McSame/Bush/Rove/Cheney for 100 years War in Iraq, Bomb bomb bomb Iran, i know nothing about the Economy, i don't know how many Houses i Own because i Sleep in money and i am out of touch with Reality. I am the master of foreign affairs, that's why i have consistently referred to Czechoslovakia, a country which by the way does Not EXIST and of course i am an expert when it comes to Homeland Security, that is why i voted for a War in Iraq instead of full focus on Afghanistan and now Osama Bin Laden is still out there……..

So much for homeland security! So much for "i will chase Osama Bin Laden to the gates of hell."

It's all over McSame!! The perception that you are knowledgeable about foreign affairs, the notion that John McBush knows world affairs is laughable and is slowly crushing down just like your "straight talk "express.

Jennifer   August 23rd, 2008 4:28 am ET

One last thing. PLEASE stop this PUMA stuff. I can promise you if Obama loses because Clinton supporters went for McCain I will never back her ever again. Not in 2012, 2016, 2020 or any time. The reason I didn't support her this time was I felt she wasn't the right choice and she was too divisive. If you PUMA supporters keep your threats you only prove my point that she doesn't or perhaps can't bring people together. If she can;t even bring her supporters to support the candidate who most resembles her then how could she bring the nation or democrats and Republicans together.
All I ask is that if you want me to ever consider Clinton then you have to prove me wrong and prove that she can lead people to come together. If not she's just as I thought and not only will I never vote for her again, but if she ever runs in a primary for presidency again I will campaign against more fervently then I;ve ever campaigned for any one.

Laura   August 23rd, 2008 4:26 am ET

Dear Senator Obama,
I am deeply saddened and disappointed in your decision for selecting for VP. It is clear to me and to millions of other Americans by this selection of a VP running mate that you are NOT listening to your constituency. As a Democrat I chose Hillary Clinton along with millions of other Democrats all around the United States. There was no other candidate that The People wanted more to enter and help change the run down and broken bureaucracy, like we believed you and Hillary would have accomplish. Therefore, given your decision, it is clear to me that you do not wish for this "change" you talk about, but are only interested in the "white" vote which will aid you in entering office. In my eyes, this makes you no different that all the other carpet bagger politicians in Washington. Therefore, I am sad to inform you that your lack of interest for your constituents will result in my definite vote for McCain. I Shame on you for all those times you rallied for change in America and stating that you would listen. Well, Mr. Obama, we spoke and you failed to listen. Shame on you!

mernoush   August 23rd, 2008 4:25 am ET

Don't be so meticulous, because once McBush pick Romney as VP you'll get into trouble. So far as I remember they'd said veeeery nice thins about each other during primaries.

Excellent choice! An Obama/Biden ticket will be unstoppable. I can't wait to see Biden crush Romney, Lieberman, etc. in the VP debate. I'm sure McCain and camp are very dissapointed and probably somewhat nervous, as it's obvious that Obama and Biden will be a huge, dynamic force in this phase of the campaign. Whatever the McCain camp tries to throw at Obama and Biden, it won't stick. Counting the days until the Nov. 4th smackdown!

IF I here about Obama's inexperience one more time I'm going to scream. HELLO, anyone heard of Abraham Lincoln. He was one of the most inexperienced presidents we had. He has a congressman on the national scene for two years. Not to mention many of our great presidents didn't have a lot of experience where as some of the more experienced ones like say Nixon, or even Bush with his executive experience as governor were terrible presidents.
Have we learned nothing? Let's just say experience does not a good president make.

Raul in California   August 23rd, 2008 4:17 am ET

It is time for democrats to put the interest of our country first, and act like mature americans...there is too much at stake! theres is a good group of republicans and independants who are already commited to support Barack Obama and his vision for our country, he has again proven by choosing Senator Joe Biden as his running mate that he is serious about governing and leading our country out of this dark cloud we have been under for the last eight years. It is time to deal with real issues and find solutions to the primary needs of the american people: Economy, jobs, health care, education, energy, our armed forces and their well being,etc....
It is time to be the nation, the people we have been called to be....to embrace our place in the world community....to be the caring and loving nation our founder fathers envisioned us to be....It is time to restore our image before the world ..... Let's celebrate the strenght of our democracy by electing Senator Obama and Senator Biden to be the next president and vice president of the United States of America.
We are one nation, one people, one republic, under God, indivisible .
we share one vision and love for all the good the USA represents.

True Democrats would not vote for a Republican.

Anyone in here still thinking about Hillary is not grounded on this Earth. We are voting for the Democratic nominee regardless of who or she is. Period.

If you stand for issues as a Democrat, if you have a backbone you accept what life gives you and you deal with it.

If you think Obama is a bad choice, oh well. That's the party candidate. Moreover, you would rather pick the worst choice (McCain) than what you consider a bad choice (Obama) out of spite? It makes no sense.

Stop being stubborn. Accept what has happened and vote Democrat.

All this bickering is gonna get us nowhere and puts us closer to another Bush term, and more years of this downward spiral we live in.

Think about it.

ML - California   August 23rd, 2008 4:05 am ET

Obama will never get my vote. I will wait until 2012 and then WE ALL will make sure that Hillary Clinton will take over the White House!

Obama, has chosen his own down fall. He and Biden will never beat McCain and whomever in November. There are a lot of Hillary Clinton supporters that are planning on voting for McCain instead of Obama.

Sergio   August 23rd, 2008 4:02 am ET

Hillary qould have been a better vice president. Biden talks like he has hemoroids.

James   August 23rd, 2008 4:02 am ET

Love how you people complain of inexperience and then attack over him looking for experience, then the flag pin....the middle name....can you honestly think of something worthwhile to talk about instead of blowing hot air? never opened a book in your life, maybe you should now instead of blogging thats definetly an idea.

I'm not voting for Obama, but, he is wise to choose someone who is more knowledgeable in area's he isn't to be his V.P., also smart enough to stay away from the "Clinton machine." . . . MCCain 08'

J Rivas   August 23rd, 2008 3:59 am ET

What people fail to realize is that what really matters is if those democrats in 3 key states go out and vote…(Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida) I will not vote this election out of protest because i really dislike both of the cabdidates…I really dislike Biden as VP. But my vote holds less sway because i live in California which is solidly Democratic. My vote will not have an impact like Dems in those 3 states…
In an election where we should have won in a landslide, Democrats failed again Dukakis-Biden 08..Im sorry, i mean Obama-Biden NEVER!!!

Sad state of this affairs! Now, I don't know who to vote for!

Sergio   August 23rd, 2008 3:53 am ET

With all the national security issues Obama does nit cut it. I I believe an an American citizen my intersts are better represented by McAinn (there uis no questuion about his patriotism and that is that!)

YOLANDA   August 23rd, 2008 3:53 am ET

I know that Opah said Senator was brillant but this was not a brillant move. This was simply stupid and boring! This pick brings nothing needed to the ticket and is almost a shoe in for a lost! I am thinking of switching parties to one that 'gets it'!

Nevada dude   August 23rd, 2008 3:53 am ET

CNN you guys suck. "moderating" is a euphemism for shaping public opinion.

:(   August 23rd, 2008 3:52 am ET

First time in 19 years I will be voting republican.
It is a sad day for dems- how does someone see a running mate with over ten years in Washington as a change??

Kathy   August 23rd, 2008 3:52 am ET

McCain is past ready to be President. He is too old.
Obama/Biden....go go go

VON BISMARK,Vienna.   August 23rd, 2008 3:51 am ET

mcWAR, the party is over. The experience Biden said Obama lacks is now complemented in Biden. So what next?
Obama is out to change Washington in the process he doesn't have to wipe out the old repentant folks. But the unrepentant warmonger must be delt withsquarely.mcSHAME is the most dangerous thing for America and the world. STOP THAT MONSTER!

Brianna   August 23rd, 2008 3:49 am ET

Some people are so stupid. And those people shouldn't vote. Why would you change your mind and vote for McCain just because Obama chose Biden, when yesterday, you were probably talking about him being another Bush? All you Hillary supporters need to vote for Obama, even though he didn't choose her, because keep in mind that you're going to need the Obama supporters votes too if you want Hillary to win in 2012. I personally think that maybe Obama shouldn't have picked Biden as his VP,but whatever.

Obama 2008!!
Hillary 2012!!

YOLANDA   August 23rd, 2008 3:49 am ET

I think this was the worst possible pick for Senator Obama. Senator Biden brings nothing to the ticket and this, in my opinion, has all but guaranteed Senator McCain the win. Here, again, the democratics make a critical plunder at the ninth hour!

Woman for GOP VP   August 23rd, 2008 3:48 am ET

Obama, you got it wrong again. You picked a racist for your wife, an idiot for your pastor, a crook for your real estate deals, a terrorist for your early Chicago day connections, an international pariah as a candidate for Middle East dialogue and now, in the moment of crowning glory, an OLD Washington insider who thinks you are unqualified as your running mate. Good bye, Senators. The lead is shrinking and key states are going to McCain. You have blown it for the Dems, Obama. Hopefully, you can design a fake presidential LOSER seal in November.

Beth Jamison   August 23rd, 2008 3:47 am ET

Throw away 18 million votes? What about John Edwards' votes? What about Joe Biden's votes? What about Chris Dodd's votes? Should they all split the job. She lost, fair and square and she would have been slaughtered if the other guys hadn't been taking votes away from Obama in the beginning.

Go ahead, vote for McCain. If you do, I expect you to enlist every one of your children and grandchildren in the military, so my husband can come home and my children don't get drafted into McCain's contrived war in Iraq and wherever else the military industrial complex instructs him to invade!

You Hillary people are something else, I gotta tell ya. She has a vagina, otherwise she is completely inappropriate for the presidency. That's why she lost. People can't stand her! I personally like her, myself, but as a senator, not as the representative of the free world.

Enough's enough, people!

Between Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and the dream team cabinet that they will be putting together (of which I'm certain Hillary will be an instrumental participant), there's no telling what kind of greatness will come out of this administration.

We already know what we're going to get from McMoron. He touts his foreign relations experience, but Biden has him so crushed there.

Come together, people! It's time! We can't afford to wait. Our economy is tanking because of the war and because of our dependence on foreign commodities, i.e. OIL! We need a peace-loving, innovative, environmentally conscious statesman! We just got two for the price of one.

Obama/Biden 2008!!! End the war in Iraq and the reign of terror in the U.S.!!!

Peace to you all!

P.S. Danny, when did you get your text? I still haven't gotten mine – or the email.

Seattle Indie   August 23rd, 2008 3:47 am ET

One more thing CNN readers. Why would you vote for a ticket in which the VP was so clearly more impressive and qualified? The ticket should have Biden as President and Obama (or someone else) as VP.

jeli, USA   August 23rd, 2008 3:45 am ET

Mr. Obama talks about judgement when it comes to the War in Iraq and about change in Washington but Senator Biden is the opposite what Obama stands for. What a big mistake. He mistreated Hillary and 18 million voters. He could blame his staff that were eager to tell the media that Hillary was never taken into consideration for VP. Iwill not vote for Mr. Obama , he is not trustworthy. Big Big Mistake

Shawn   August 23rd, 2008 3:45 am ET

Oh yeah, McCain supporters won't have much leverage when it comes to the experience and readiness issue – because before Romney got out of the race – he had the same things negative to say about McCain....

Shawn   August 23rd, 2008 3:43 am ET

Mr. Ken Levy

You know this the the first election that I have ever paid attention to and this is very discouraging.

Why should Obama be required to chose HRC? Yes I know she got 18,000,000 votes – yet she didn't win the election.

Yes we can talk about the superdelegates, caucuses, etc...but the Clinton has been involved with national election since 1992 – if the system was so bad; why didn't they do something to change it back then?

So should it be written in stone that whoever is the person with the highest amount should pick the person with the second highest votes as their VP?

If folks get honest about it, HRC, BO and BILL wouldn't had been a good combination if elected.

But I guess if he had picked HRC, folks would had been calling him weak and desperate then....

Proud Union Democrat   August 23rd, 2008 3:42 am ET

I live in GA and I've seen plenty of Obama tv ads. The latest polls show Ohio and VA are tied, and Obama is behind by only 1% in FL.

We're headed into the convention with the wind at our backs!

jeanette   August 23rd, 2008 3:41 am ET

McCain best worry about his own campaign and butt out of Senator Obama's.

It'll be interesting to see who McCain chooses – and I'm sure it'll be someone he's sparred wth in the past.

Besides – who cares what McCain thinks about Obama's choice? I'm happy and thats all that matters to me.

Vote Smart – Obama-Biden '08!

The announcement is on Barack's website, and the text messages are being sent.

javone77   August 23rd, 2008 3:40 am ET

Wow. It's too early and I guess some are stil sleeping LOL Obama picked who he needed. To Disappointed...please do not think that Obama supporters will forget this debacle. you all are playing your hands too wide open. You can pretty much forget clinton 2012....obamas numbers won't swing for her if she doesn't "man up" as it were. To Jeannine: I think you and I are awake and on the same page. Biden was running for the office at that time. I would have been shocked had he stood there and said that Obama was ready LOL talk about sabotaging your campaign. If Obama had picked clinton it would have been the same thing but WORSE! To Ken: you go right ahead and get your card and when you and the rest of your family are toting guns through afghanistan after you get drafted don't complain. smh I guess the family that kills together stays together?

From an Electoral College perspective, this brings the Obama campaign absolutely nothing. All three of Delaware's electoral votes were basically in the Dem column already. I think the potential to swing Virginia's 13 electoral votes from R to D would have made a bigger impact.

It's also interesting that the Obama campaign announced on Friday that they stopped advertising in seven "red" battleground states. These states includes ones when McCain has now taken a lead like Florida, Virginia, Ohio, and Georgia. So much for the Howard Dean "50 state strategy".

According to Real Clear Politics, if the election were held today and toss up state criteria were ignored, McCain would win the election 274 (270 are required) electoral votes to Obama's 264.

How funny! One of the biggest Washington insiders who has been part of the establishment for decades and called out the Democratic nominee as not being experienced enough to be president .......now that is change I can believe in.

Beth Jamison   August 23rd, 2008 3:32 am ET

I'm sorry you're so disappointed, Disappointed. As a woman, I would have loved to see a woman president as well, but Hillary just wasn't the woman for the job. Try Kathleen Sebelius 2016 – a much better candidate, with much stronger credentials and a lot more "likability" factor. Seriously, TRY to get over it! She lost! She wouldn't have done nearly as well as she did in the early primaries (including FL and MI) if John Edwards and the others hadn't also been running. It would have been a much bigger victory for Obama.

Obama clearly won the nomination and Hillary is going to be able to do a heck of a lot more as a senator with a democratic president. Think about it. If you truly believe in what Hillary was fighting for, you wouldn't have this negative attitude! They have the same agenda! No time for sour grapes... Be a democrat and stand with your party!!! Even Hillary wants you to...

President Barack Obama 2008/2012!!!

Seattle Indie   August 23rd, 2008 3:32 am ET

Obama will do anything to get elected. His speeches got him this far but he knew he was an empty suit. So he went out to get a someone who knew how to govern. Problem is Biden is as old style politics as they come.

So much for a new style of politics. Obama is a like a use car salesmen. He'll lie to close the deal.

steven   August 23rd, 2008 3:31 am ET

Go Joe

Barack demonstrated his good judgment again in picking Biden.

Leadership we can believe in.

I'm 58 and think this will bring get positive change to America.

Nick   August 23rd, 2008 3:31 am ET

Wow. I'm glad so many people are deciding based on policies and not on how angry they are that their own candidate didn't make it. Do you really think not voting or voting Republican instead will help? You're just punishing yourselves. I've never seen anyone act so melodramatic over such pitiful grounds.

As far as McCain's attack goes: Umm... doesn't that actually make having Biden with Obama better? I mean if his "harshest critic" is willing to work with him? and not to mention that it would provide a strong alternative viewpoint in White House policy making discussions. Biden is not my ideal choice, nor was Obama. But they're the best we've got, and I think Obama and Biden will make a great team.

Rob indetroit   August 23rd, 2008 3:30 am ET

Just for the record Obama Got 17 or 18 million votes, what does cthis mean well simple if he does'nt get elected then Hillary will never be president, you see alot of us chave memory's better than John Mcmemory.

Obama could have Jesus himself as VP and McCain would still find a way to criticize.

Some thoughts:
There is no such word as "unexperienced'
Seems nobody can alter what they think without 'flip-flopping'. Already had 8 years of someone who wont change what he thinks.
All presidential candidates are vetted every day by the opposing campaign and the media.
Hillary (and Bill) have been vetted relentlessly for years. Little need to do it further.
Seems that the 'same Washington players" must mean all of them and nobody there does a good job.
When did Hillary turn into 'our only hope to survive'? Maybe she needs a cape.
Joe Biden has more experience than Hillary could hope for.
PUMA's are slowly becoming the Nader's of 2008. If they cost Obama the election they will be just as reviled.

Joe, Seattle WA   August 23rd, 2008 3:29 am ET

Watch out! The destruction force, OBAMA-BIDEN, is coming to tear down MacBush...Well..this country needs to have a better direction. Eight years of republicans in the white house have been a disastreous. Let's be real..OBAMA-BIDEN is a ticket that would bring this country again to its high level.

I wonder if McCain really wants to open the pandora's box of criticism. Really. I mean, who can he possibly choose, aside from Lieberman, who hasn't already talked smack about him in a plethora of soundbites as well?

Lieberman is my bet for VP, even though all the buzz is about Romney right now. I'd love to see a McCain/Romney ticket! How easy would those two obnoxious clowns be to beat in a debate. Two flip-floppers who couldn't stand eachother! Lieberman would probably be the smartest way to grab some independent and Jewish votes, but he's a crypt keeper like McCain and he certainly won't be very well received by the GOP base – a.k.a. Republiscum!

The next couple of days should be really interesting.

In your debate you stated to Hillary Clinton voted for this war and you did not , but you turn around and selected a person who also voted for this war, you beat up Hillary about voting for this war. What happen to Change first african american for president, change first female for VP Change . Thinking about sitting this election out. Not happy with the Democratic Party now, I guess like James Brown said THIS IS A MAN WORLD, SORRY LADIES WE ARE JUST IN IT. Crimeny...they would have said the same thing about Hillary, or Richardson if Obama had chosen them, and if McCain chooses anyone that was running for the republican nominee, then Obama's camp would surely choose to pick on the things he said negatively about McCain on the trail too.

same old same old.

All the more reason to question the intentions of Sen. Obama. Do we really know who and what his intentions are? Strong arm tactics and rampant racism. The DNC picked the weaker candidate, gave unearned votes to Obama. His weaknesses show up in his flip flops, a questionable past, and a lack of concrete history of action. How can I make an informed decision for real change based on these? All I know for sure is that he willingly attended Trinity Church for 20 years listening to hate and divisiveness, (no wonder the democrats are divided,) is the chairman of the Subcommittee on European Affairs with jurisdiction over NATO’s operations but didn’t call a meeting in two years, and his campaign strong armed it's way into the nomination, but hey that doesn't matter because he will change things for the better, right

maramara   August 23rd, 2008 3:11 am ET

Well, A a Republican, I am really nervous because our candidate has only one credential that he brandishes; that is, being a POW. With Biden on this ticket, and not Clinton as expected, Mccain needs to get rid of that POW stuff. Why is it that NO ONE, not a single Hillary active supporter is talking about the *excess* baggage that BILL (Monica revived etc..) and Hillary will bring BACK to the democratic party!!!

Folks, this is about the party. The Clintons have had their share, and because of them, Al Gore and Kerry lost all previous elections.

With Hillary on the ticket, even DEAD REPUBLICANS will rise from the grave to vote for things to get only worse in McSame!

Central Iowan   August 23rd, 2008 3:08 am ET

This is SO rich! A VP candidate who also plagiarizes. Someone who loves to talk on-and-on without really saying much. A person who, as NBC journalist Chuck Todd pointed out, "Loves the sound of his own voice.".

Let's not forget Biden has been in Washington 10 years longer than McCain has. Of course, Obama is all about changing Washington, right?

The following quote is from USA Today on 12/28/07 when Obama was campaigning during the Iowa caucuses:
Making his case against Hillary Rodham Clinton without naming her, Obama said, "The real gamble in this election is playing the same Washington game with the same Washington players and expecting a different result."

Apparently Obama flip-flopped on that too.

Biden's criticism is a non-issue, it's politics.

Hillary voters==do the right thing, keep the Republicans out of the White House.

TrueAboutHillary   August 23rd, 2008 3:08 am ET

Joe Biden is by far more qualified than Hillary Clinton! For those of you who are still wanting Hillary Clinton, Hillary Clinton can't hold a candle to Joe Biden. For those of you who are still counting the 18 million voters, that is equivalent of me trying to get my employer to give me a raise based on endorsements I got in another past evaluation period. The truth is Hillary Clinton was running on experience that she just does not have. Jo Biden actually has experience. The only experience Hillary Clinton has is deceiving the American people. If Hillary Clinted had been selected, Hillary and Bill would have behaved just the way they are behaving for the convention and undermining Obama work.

Mary   August 23rd, 2008 3:07 am ET

Obama/ Biden for Change, the Economy, Homeland Security- going after those responsible for the heinous attack on American soil, Unity of the nation for a Perfect Union,Health Care, Re-shaping America's image on the international front, Foreign Affairs, Diplomacy, and Hope.

McSame/Bush/Rove/Cheney for 100 years War in Iraq, Bomb bomb bomb Iran, i know nothing about the Economy, i don't know how many Houses i Own because i Sleep in money and i am out of touch with Reality. I am the master of foreign affairs, that's why i have consistently referred to Czechoslovakia, a country which by the way does Not EXIST and of course i am an expert when it comes to Homeland Security, that is why i voted for a War in Iraq instead of full focus on Afghanistan and now Osama Bin Laden is still out there........

Victor Craig Vernon, NJ   August 23rd, 2008 3:05 am ET

Instant hypocritical criticism from Mr. McCain and his fellow republicans is no surprise. Could anyone on the opposite side of their narrow-minded beliefs have expected anything different.?

They probably had their words already written several weeks ago. No matter who Mr. Obama may have chosen, they would have leveled the same criticism.

We all must remember that this same bunch, including Mr. McCain, showed how intelligent they are by supporting George W. Bush and Dick Chaney; who with all of their so-called experience have put forth and executed, the worst foreign policy actions in this nation's history. Add this to their record; before they came into office, the United States and a budget surplus. Now we have the worst national debt in history. Can any of us forget the lies and half truths that they put forth to us and the rest of the world to justify the war in Iraq?

No amount of criticism of the opposing party's nominees can erase or obscure that disgraceful record.

With all of their so-called experience, they and Mr. McCain propose solutions to our energy crisis that involve drilling for more oil; the burning of which is of the source of air pollution and climate change and building more expensive and dangerous nuclear power plants.
This is plain stupidity.

The United States and the rest of the world need a big change in policies and attitude from our government.

Joe Biden as VP is a good choice. So is Barack Obama for president.

Go Obama! Go Joe Biden!

It just seem that The Vice presidential choice is more equip to govern than the presumed democratic nominee. So it will be like Bush Cheney and we can now wonder what mess Barrack will do in the Whitehouse granting Biden will put him there. What change are you going to bring in Washington... Biden is Washington Boy.
It will be Mccain...... new president to be... no doubt about ability, no doubt about integrity.. no doubt about readiness.. no doubt about love of country... no doubt about leadership... no doubt about courage... no doubt about economics... no doubt about foreign policies... no doubt about healthcare.. For Mccain... it is always America first.. no doubt.

Paul   August 23rd, 2008 3:01 am ET

The delusions of grander displayed by the Obamamaniacs in the comments is really quite funny.

Does anyone remember Biden running for President last year? Thought so.

The guy is a blowhard, and all that "experience" is going to end up being a big albatross around a candidate who has branded himself as the agent of "change" and anti-Washington politics.

Plus, the McCain camp is going to have hundreds of hours of video of Biden deriding Obama just a few short months ago when he was running for President. Biden and Obama are going to either 1) look like grand idiots trying to convince everyone that Biden's criticisms suddenly no longer have merit or 2) convince everyone that yes, "change that you can believe in" is really just business as usual.

Neither strategy is going to win the White House.

Well, nothing that biden has ever said is worst than anything Hillary spit out during the primary. And what are you rethugs goint to say if Mc " I know nothing about the economy" chooses Romney, who has said horrible things about Mclame, as his running mate. Please think before you speak.

Tom   August 23rd, 2008 2:59 am ET

Lack of experience label fits every president elected for the first term in this country, attempted job promotions, dating ..you name it..Only in the second term have we had leaders with some experience leading this vast government.

As a minority , retired military menber, and employee from the private sector; I have heard and live with these comments most of my life. I would like Obama's staff to get this stigma out of the campaign messages about their candidate...

Hey McCain, do you remember "The Keating Five" also ask Phil Graham if he remembers "The Enron scandal". Well in case you don't we, the voters do.

At The End of the Day.......   August 23rd, 2008 2:56 am ET

From what I can see, all of them said things about each other that shouldn't have been said. Take for example, the things that Mitt Romney said about John McCain, and, the things John McCain said about Huckabee. Or, let's look at some of the things Hillary Clinton said about Senator Obama, and vice versa. Or, how about Hillary Clinton saying "the republicans should apologize and not run anybodoy!!" Which, by the way, was an excellent observation (and now you Hillarly supporters want to vote for McCain?). You are idiots if you think for one minute that they don't all know how to get along, especially for the good of politics. Believe me, when McCain picks Mitt Romney, they 'll be plenty of things that was said that he will be reminded of by the Obama campaign!!! And, if McCain picks Bobby Jindal, I can see all of the nasty comments now, in particular "a cowboy and an indian", who also has done next to nothing about the disaster in Ward 9 in New Orleans. I can go on and on about the negative things each candidate said about the other, but at the end of the day, they remain civil to each other, some even continue to like each other and they continue to do their job. What do you who support them do? I'll tell you, YOU ALL CONTINUE TO TEAR EACH OTHER APART, WHILE THE CANDIDATES COULD CARE LESS!!!

did i do that????   August 23rd, 2008 2:56 am ET

McCain is already adding the water to his dirt...slinging mud already? boy how McCain's desperation has killed his integrity...John McCain threw his maverick image under the bus

All you Hillary acolytes are sad and pathetic. We know you can't stand that Obama is black and has a funny name, but in the words of one union rep "he's still a democrat. Get over it." How is one person that you don't even know personally more important to you and the state of the country itself?

And why does everyone keep thinking that the president has to be capable of doing everything in the job description himself? No one knows everything. This is why he has a cabinet and advisors. This is why the truly intelligent presidents pick VPs like Biden and surround themselves with intelligent people. Stop trying to find reasons not to like Obama and acknowledge how disastrous giving anymore time to a conservative (or a senile recent conservative wannabe) would be for our country.

Doesn't matter who Obama picks, he is most likely going to lose. Reasons:

1) our country is a developed nation but ONLY in infrastructure and technology but we are NOT yet there / ready in terms of mentality and intellectual thinking – we JUST cannot get over this racial/caste/religion factors EVEN with the younger generation and professional folks support for Obama. The popular vote would rather vote for a Mccain OR even another 90 year old Cowboy than Obama or as a matter of fact a woman.
2) The Clinton factor is going to further screw this equation and is going to work backwards for Obama...

Fact of the matter is America – Wake Up / Grow up. As long as you do not try to change our current image of "trigger happy", you will NEVER get over this Security and Fear pychosis and the billions and trillions of Tax money wasted in the name of security – this is a different economy now and not something old timers like Mccain can handle... but who cares – we are just happy with a main stream guy ....

Okay Obama got what he described in a VP ... someone who will tell him when he thinks that he is wrong ... someone who is not a "yes" man ... someone who is qualified to be President. The fact that Biden has critized Obama in the past, just underscores that Biden is the right person for the job. All the people on McCain's short list especially Romney have critized him in the past. Therefore, McCain would'nt have a leg to stand on if he tries to use "past critizism" as a weapon because it could backfire on him.

Biden said some things because he was trying to win, Obama said things, Richardson said things, Edwards said things that if ANY of them ran together they could replay. Think about a McCain/Romney ticket if they did that? Some of you are being a little short-sighted. Obama/Biden works for me!

He will lose, There is no turning back, Democrats wake up, The country will go back to another 3rd Bush term, He will lose a war to get elected, Please people listen to him and look at the country how it will go, Don't forget the 90's when there was a surplus in the white house, And who was running the country... DMC, USA   August 23rd, 2008 2:36 am ET

Biden is an okay choice. Obama obviously wants a challenge rather than the slam dunk. We shall see...

Best of luck Obama/Biden, the future of our citizens depends on you. You will need every break you can get.

Put McCain away!

Carol   August 23rd, 2008 2:34 am ET

There was no love lost between McCain and Romney in the primaries, and I hear that name over and over again that he’s on McCain’s short list. It’s politics as usual. All of them, well except the hot heads and poor losers, kiss and make up at the end.

Brother Grimace   August 23rd, 2008 2:34 am ET

Writing in Hillary on November Ballot... in the republican slot

Paul   August 23rd, 2008 2:33 am ET

Good for Obgama, Biden exemplefies and fills in his weaknesses.

McCain/Palin 08.

Robert   August 23rd, 2008 2:32 am ET

To anyone "Writing in Hillary on November Ballot": Could you please explain WHY you would do that? Do you think Hillary will actually win? No, I doubt you do. So dealing with the hard reality for a moment, which candidate, McCain or Obama, do you think Hillary will be voting for? Putting aside cults of personality for a moment, which candidate is more likely to support the same policies and appoint the same Justices that Clinton would have? C'mon. Even as bitterly disappointed as they are, do you really think Hillary and Bill themselves would want you to enable McCain and the Republicans to keep the White House?

Eric   August 23rd, 2008 2:32 am ET

Several anoymous sources but confirmed McCain insiders are reluctantly confirming that Senator John McCain will name Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton as his Presidential running mate. Apparantly, the move tagged as Democrablican politics has been in the works for well over a year and is the brainchild of the now reclusive Bush strategist Karl Rove. "Project Republicrat", a complex and still vaguely understood "power deal" is said by sources to have been discreetly engineered by a virtually secret fellowship including the Bush dynasty, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, the Clintons and Senator McCain's current wife Cindy. Senator McCain, showing signs of confusion this week over joint ownership of realestate with his current wife Cindy is reportedly on the verge of a total emotional collapse under the stress of being front man and major puppet of this truely remarkable and historic scheme.....In the words of one of the McCain insiders, "I don't know...it's freaky, all of the sudden it was like...pow...wow!!....Cindy is calling the shots for John...alot of us got really scared...she's like an alien or something...when she smacked him he went down...her expression didn't even change....she just said we're doing this...!! The room was totally silent. That vigorous handshake story was just a cover...the sling is real man....she popped....we had to tell somebody."

Stevo   August 23rd, 2008 2:32 am ET

Isn't journalism supposed to be without bias? So wouldn't it be proper to say that McCain is making the same observations as Hillary, rather than saying he's copying her?

The difference here is that the same comments that Hillary made might be made by anyone if they are in fact true and accurate observations, which both Hillary and McCain perceive them to be!

Ryan in Canada   August 23rd, 2008 2:31 am ET

I would have liked to see Clinton get the runner up position, but Biden isn't bad either. Regardless of who he chose, it's better than McCain. FWIW, McCain isn't favoured all that well up here.

Brother Grimace   August 23rd, 2008 2:31 am ET

Stars and Garters!!!!!
The McCain camp is upset because they've been outplayed?!

Gee, there's a shocker. A bit like G.Gordon Liddy having a problem with the guy who leaked his whereabouts that fateful night isn't it?

Christopher   August 23rd, 2008 2:30 am ET

McCain = Pace Maker Sales

Don   August 23rd, 2008 2:30 am ET

Isn't grandpa in bed yet?

MikeNJ   August 23rd, 2008 2:29 am ET

It really amazes me the stupidity in this country. Take for instance Chicago Architect... "McCain=Bush, Bush=McCain" we can only hope that McCain is half the president. You want to see something scary? Obama-Biden= Carter- Kennedy

Frank, California   August 23rd, 2008 2:28 am ET

McCain = Bush = McCain = Bush = McCain = Bush = McCain = Bush= Dumb = Dumb = Dumb = Dumb = Dumb = Dumb = Dumb

Trang, Fremont, CA   August 23rd, 2008 2:28 am ET

Barack Obama is indeed ready to be President. Both Biden and Hillary has attacked Obama. It was in the primary, but neither of them survive the primary. We choose Obama. We believe he is ready. We prefer his vision, his direction, where he is leading the country. We prefer his demeanor in handling conflicts.

On the flip side, if Biden has attacked Obama, and Obama still choose Biden for his VP, that's tells me Obama doesn't hold a grudge. He chooses the best person for the job.

McCain is just sore because his 'surge' idea isn't get complimented. Heck, the 'surge' costs money, costs lives, and we can't afford to have a 'surge' everywhere. We don't have enough manpower, and it would bankrupt us.

tony   August 23rd, 2008 2:27 am ET

Obama + Biden = Concise judgement, Clear vision, Experience and Change. GO OBAMA/BIDEN GO!

Maryln   August 23rd, 2008 2:27 am ET

Ah...Obama does not have foreign policy experience- agreed. That is why Biden is in the ticket. How dumb do you think Americans are?

If this is what Mccain is thinking of using- then – seriously- at age 72-73 – he has lost his "bearings"

Lanae   August 23rd, 2008 2:27 am ET

I keep on reading about obama don't have experience? Umm who has experience being president before your 1st term? Nobody has experience until you become president. And I will take someone with no experience than to vote for a nut job like mccain who is a 72 year old senile crazy man who is itching to draft your kids into the army and keep them over there for 100 years while he takes a dip in his jacuzzi at house #5 while his butler pours him champaign.

meg   August 23rd, 2008 2:26 am ET

oh please. biden=mccain's worst nightmare.

RyanD.   August 23rd, 2008 2:26 am ET

Biden is going to absolutely destroy McCain in his role as attack dog.

I feel sorry for Mittens Romney or whatever gump McCain chooses.

Obama/Biden 08'

The Obama Has No Clothes   August 23rd, 2008 2:25 am ET

And Yes Ladies, that would be the final insult......

Obama says he wants "someone who is prepared to be president." He really needs to take a look in the mirror.

dee   August 23rd, 2008 2:25 am ET

I would ask McCain to keep quiet about it if he is to choose Mitt Romney. Everybody remembers their bitter fight during primary season.

Biden- smart choice.

DannyJ   August 23rd, 2008 2:25 am ET

This is going to be a very interesting election...

Obama picked a well qualified VP that has been publicly critical of Obama, and disagrees with Obama on a number of issues, including Iraq. This is a man on a "Change" ticket, yet has been a Washington insider for more than half his life- since Obama was eight. This is the same VP candidate that happens to be very close to McCain– even saying that he would be honored to run WITH McCain.

There's a big hypocrisy alert with Obama, and a big conflict of interest with Biden. Can't wait for round 1!

Jason Willis   August 23rd, 2008 2:25 am ET

what does that say about McCain then? If Biden thinks so lowly of Obama, yet endorses him over McCain?

bec   August 23rd, 2008 2:25 am ET

yeah well after mccain picks mitt that argument will be moot.

bohicasfc   August 23rd, 2008 2:25 am ET

Bbiiddeenn must have fliped floped..I do remember he said Oobbaammaa was not experienced enough to be President??? I am sure he will find someones old speech and steal it again.......HUM?

K of TX   August 23rd, 2008 2:25 am ET

Either the McCain camp thinks we are stupid or they are stupid....

Unlike Hillary, Joe will be on TV refuting whatever they throw at him or Obama.

And for that matter, If Hillary had wanted to be VP she should have acted more like a VP and confronted the opposition head-on! She needed to do more than just reach out for party unity. THAT is what a VP does...

Dave   August 23rd, 2008 2:25 am ET

The McCain response is nothing but lies. It's sad that McCain, even though he saw his 2000 campaign destroyed by Bush-Rove lies, has now fully embraced the same destructive tactics in 2008.

David Peter   August 23rd, 2008 2:24 am ET

OH YEAH!! Now things are really going to heat up! He will throw your slime right back at you, McCain.

MedZag   August 23rd, 2008 2:24 am ET

Curious criticisms from the McCain party. If Biden has been such a purported critic of Obama's lack of experience and his foreign policy, then having Biden as a running mate actually serves as a benefit, as it gives Obama both Biden's foreign policy experience and a needed and valued critical voice in his ear. Seems to be a bit of a grasping at straws argument IMHO.

Jon   August 23rd, 2008 2:24 am ET

Fantastic!!!

OBAMA/BIDEN 2008

Nahum   August 23rd, 2008 2:24 am ET

McCain is Don GOP. He is old, can't remember how many houses he own... He is not honest! And above all He wants us to have faith on Him...

Obama is peoples president

And I know that CNN will not post my comment... If you dont you r no more different that this war mongering unpredictable senator Don GOP

MikeNJ   August 23rd, 2008 2:22 am ET

this is awsome.....now that he picked Biden it really is a Dumb and Dumber ticket vs McCain....Well lets see, this takes the age thing right out of it, and I hope everyone kept all the quotes from Binde during the Democratic Primaries where he totally ripped Obama......oh by the way Frank from California....you're an idiot

Mark   August 23rd, 2008 2:22 am ET

There you go, typical Republican tactics. It's tragedy when they slip on the banana peel, and comedy when the other side slips on it, but I'm hoping they slip on their own banana peels this time. If Americans 'fell' for the same President for 8 years, I'm hoping they'll wise up and not fall for more of the the same banana peels this time around.

Colleen Apple Valley, Ca.   August 23rd, 2008 2:22 am ET

Obama, thanks for disrespecting the 18 million voters that voted for Hillary. I will be voting for McCain, clearly you didn't get OUR message. Color you the Hollow Man who has nothing to offer but lame speeches and shallow world policies. You said that your Veep wouldn't have a say so on your foreign policies, yet you picked Biden, who does know foreign policy. You are either a liar about not knowing world affairs or an idiot for not understanding that Hillary carried every state you needed to defeat McCain. Thanks for wasting all the Democrats time.

WOW - Cedar Hill, TX   August 23rd, 2008 2:22 am ET

OMG, McCain knows his time is up...Obama/Biden is going to slam him.... Old Man McCain is jealous and it is truly showing... He is not getting any press time and will not get any later....

Jealous OLD Man – get a life.....

Chris, Antioch, CA   August 23rd, 2008 2:21 am ET

Oh, please! Every political rival says the nastiest stuff about each other during the primaries. I just can't wait for Biden to start on the attack. Obama picked him because he realized last week he needs this kind of help. I hope Mitt is the other choice. A Biden / Romney debate, Biden would eat him for lunch. Oh the humanity...

Barbara   August 23rd, 2008 2:21 am ET

While Barack was defending Hillary. Hillary was attacking Barack. This is the reason Hillary was not selected. She was reckless in her personal pursuit against her own team member.

did i do that????   August 23rd, 2008 2:21 am ET

spoony August 22nd, 2008 6:26 pm ET

we need mccain as are predient. he is a rich and hes white. i dont wont to be atacked by iran and the russians. i dont trust a black muzlim as presidnt. obama just wants to help poor black people and he does not care about whites

Writing in Hillary on November Ballot   August 23rd, 2008 2:20 am ET

Why are vice presidential candidates thoroughly vetted but presidential candidates are not?

Shaking my head   August 23rd, 2008 2:20 am ET

It doesn't get more hypocritical than the running mate being the same person who said Obama wasn't ready to be President. Oh that's right, maybe we were "just not listening".... Give me a break. This just made it a slam dunk that McCain will be our next President. Nice work!

Jeb   August 23rd, 2008 2:19 am ET

I can't believe how clueless the McCain campaign is. They have no idea the ammunition that Obama will use against them in October. Starting with the Keating 5. Just you wait. It will be brutal.

They should be preparing for the debates. Biden is the most terrifying guy to debate with. He will bury them, and I will savor every minute of it.

So long, McCain. Nice effort, better luck next time.

Anonymous   August 23rd, 2008 2:19 am ET

Obama has no chance. He is going to lose and the only chance he had of winning was to pick Clinton. The smartest thing the democrats can do is not elect Obama and pick Clinton for president instead.

DannyJ   August 23rd, 2008 2:18 am ET

Obama picked a well qualified VP that has been publicly critical of Obama, and disagrees with Obama on a number of issues, including Iraq. This is a man on a "Change" ticket, yet has been a Washington insider for more than half his life- since Obama was eight. This is the same VP candidate that happens to be very close to McCain– even saying that he would be honored to run WITH McCain.

Oh this is going to get nasty!

John Edwards   August 23rd, 2008 2:17 am ET

Man, I'm so happy Obama didn't pick me. You know, with that whole cheatin' on my cancer-stricken wife and everything. Aren't us guys just grand....:)

Chicago Architect   August 23rd, 2008 2:15 am ET

McCain = Bush = McCain = Bush = McCain = Bush = McCain = Bush

America, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE WAKE UP.

Whatever the McCain camp approach is, just take it as it really is:

- A much more dire future for this country
- A step back, instead of forward
- Despair instead of HOPE

Whatever analogy you chose, it has never been clearer, the choice IS to move forward and get this country back on its feet.

PUMAs forget the bitterness.

Undecideds, the decision is pretty clear now more than ever.

Republicans, stop the arrogance and join the country in a new direction.

God Bless America!

He "needed" Hillary - Deb in Texas   August 23rd, 2008 2:15 am ET

I respect Joe Biden only because he once told the media that Obama was needing on the job training, and he voted for the Iraq War, same as Hillary. He was thinking of our safety not being a follower as Obama is. All I see is another Bush and Cheney.....same old politics for someone who preaches "Change" Come on people wake up and see the pattern......Obama is nothing but an arrogant, cocky person, just like Bush was.

I was life long Democrat, now changing to Independent. Never will I support the DNC again. They sabotaged the chance of us having a brilliant, intellegent experience candidate like Hillary, and I won't ever forget that. Hillary supporter with many others in coalition who will now vote for McCain.

For those who think we should be unified...thank Obama for not having picked Hillary. McCain is not another Bush, his a sincere and experienced candidate. The Supreme Court decision is not a vital issue over our protection, and ONLY McCain can do that.

Stop calling Hillary supporters pathetic, we are entitled to our own vote and our own choice. We owe nothing to a party who betrayed us.

Independent from FL   August 23rd, 2008 2:15 am ET

The reason Obama will lose is because he is unexperienced, period.

alex   August 23rd, 2008 2:14 am ET

if this is really a preview of the McCain attack, then say hello to President Obama. They're coming with the weak sauce!

Joe   August 23rd, 2008 2:14 am ET

If this was a real problem, McCain should have been on this from the start. McCain should have said, "Look, the head of Obama's subcommittee within the Senate says the guy is not doing a good job."

Instead, McCain chose to wait until Biden agreed to line up with Obama and put their full forces together. There is not doubt that Biden and Obama will come up with a strong, harsh respone to any attack McCain tries to make.

Obama is too fast and too smart with his responses for McCain to get him. I cannot wait to see both the presidential and vice presidential debates.

David   August 23rd, 2008 2:13 am ET

Obama is more than ready to be President, shown by his wise choice of Senator Biden as his running mate. Obama has great judgment, and Biden's foreign policy experience make them the perfect match.

Frank, California   August 23rd, 2008 2:12 am ET

That would shut old John McCain/McBush up. I like the fact that not only Obama is getting tuff on the right wing nuts job but he also got a brutal attack dog to nail down the constant republican propaganda.

Don   August 23rd, 2008 2:11 am ET

Is this all Mcmanyhouses can say, he needs to grow up or better still,

grow positive!!!

jeanette   August 23rd, 2008 2:10 am ET

I don't care what the McCain camp says.... I have a feeling they're shaking in their boots right now. LOL

Vote Smart – Obama-Biden '08!!!

gp   August 23rd, 2008 2:10 am ET

Unfortunately Mc Old man that doesn't mean that you are ment to be president. Being captured for five years is not any better credential!!!!Maybe you can share story with grand-grand children if you are at all in touch with them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Colleen Apple Valley, Ca.   August 23rd, 2008 2:10 am ET

Obama, thanks for ignoring 18 million people that voted for Hillary. Kiss my Democratic rear good-bye.

Patriot   August 23rd, 2008 2:08 am ET

Scoring the Votes

He said that he had "a perfect voting record from organizations like the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion." But we called both of those groups, and they told us they don't even release congressional scorecards. In fact, the American Legion's constitution prohibits it.

The veteran in this exchange was also wrong in saying McCain doesn't have a perfect voting record with the VFW (since such a record doesn't even exist). However, he is correct in that McCain doesn’t have a perfect score with DAV (Disabled American Veterans), a group of 1.3 million disabled veterans that supports more funding for veterans health care. McCain has a 20 percent record of voting the way DAV would like him to in 2006. The group is nonpartisan, but its 100 percent rankings disproportionately go to Democrats: 207 Democrats in Congress and only 13 Republicans received scores of 100 percent in 2006. Senators were evaluated on five votes for amendments that would have increased funding for veterans’ health care.
