CNN’s reporting forced the Obama campaign to scrap its original plan.

DENVER (CNN) – Barack Obama planned to name Joe Biden as his running mate by text message at 8 a.m. ET Saturday morning, but was forced to move up the announcement when CNN broke the story after midnight, a senior Obama official said.

At 12:42 a.m. ET, CNN reported that Obama had picked Biden to join him on the ticket. Several other news organizations confirmed the CNN report shortly afterwards.

“Had a certain network not blown our cover at a certain time the text message would have gone out in the morning, 8 a.m. Eastern,” Robert Gibbs, a senior advisor, said with a grin on Sunday. “We told people they would find out from us. When we decided it was going to get out we decided to send the text out.”

Gibbs said he believes despite the fact that the rollout plan had to be altered, a “vast majority of the people” still learned by text message when they woke up in the morning.

Some Republicans and others suggested that Obama’s 3 a.m. ET email had been intended as a deliberate swipe at Hillary Clinton, who ran a primary season ad that referenced that hour of the morning to make the case she was more qualified to handle a breaking crisis.

I hear all this PUMA this and PUMA that but what are you really mad about ? . How angry can you be that your willing to say that mc cain has your best intentions because your candidate didnt get nominated . The numbers dont lie . Obama was nominated because the votes were counted regardless of the tom foolery of Michigan and Florida . So if you honestly believe that MC Cain has your best interest at heart? If thats the case then you should vote for him and get a retard acronym to go with your misconstrued and misdirected anger. You deserve to have your kids in a war torn country risking their lives for a neo conservative agenda YOU deserve to not to have health care because big pharmaceuticals are in the governments pockets YOU deserve to have no jobs at your local plant because the government decide it easier for them to ship them over seas YOU deserve big oil companies to not give a rats a$$ about you or your need to drive around your dumbfounded idea of automobile supremacy … Dont fall victim to the talking heads and personal pride think about where your gonna be in 5 years because you thought it was cute to be mad your candidate didnt make it in the beauty contest.. Think for once and stop following others.

RJ from CA,
Where is your patriotism? To be patriotic means that you may disgree with others opnions but commit. You are not patriotic Democrats. You clained to be a Democrat supporting Hillary but as Hillary did not win, you then change to Republican and called it patriotic Democrat?. Your actions are more an act of a traitor. Look we are all educated and know what's going on. The fact remains that you Hillary supporter still cannot accept defeat. It is unfortunate. You leave in a civilized society but continued to harbor grudges and rancor. Give me a break! . You HC supporters and CNN need to get over your sentiments,

Obama-Biden will win come November and with or without HC supporters – Amen!!!

Debra in Florida   August 24th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

It was deliberate and everyone knows it. Stop trying to justify it and explain it away because it had a reverse effect….NEGATIVE! If it was being parised then they would be admitting it…..sad!

Hillary Supporter   August 24th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

There is no doubt she should have been picked by Obama for VP instead of the two-time Presidential loser Biden. I have never voted for a Republican ever, but will vote for McCain or will not vote at all.
Go Hillary 2012!

Deb   August 24th, 2008 6:46 pm ET

People are gonna read into things what they want. If the Obama 3:00 am delivery of the text had nothing to do with the Hillary ad….you're not gonna make some folks believe that it didn't. How in the heck was everyone suppose to receive it at 3? What about the different time zones.
I'm just glad the announcement was made.

I kept my station tuned to you CNN 'cause I know however it went, I'd get the info from you all first.:)

Who watches CNN at midnight anyway? I wonder if CNN will loose the sweet spot they have for the DNC Convention?

Marie in California   August 24th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

Who cares?

I supported Hillary but now support McCain. Not because of bitterness or revenge, but because Obama is not qualified to lead this country. And because I've learned the DNC is not to be trusted or respected.

It's as simple as that.

NOBAMA!

Everyone here is mad because CNN "scooped" Obama's big news…. Should Obama be allowed to decided what the media reports and when it gets published?? Now THAT is not the change I want for America. Keep up the good work CNN.

OH my GOD. Someone messed up the childish game ahead of time that Obama and his staff were playing.

Daryl in Seattle   August 24th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

Smart and shady way to try and get Hillary-crats fired up. To say it was a swipe at her by sending out the text at 3am. Wow…..

Paul Stamm   August 24th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

At what point do we (meaning you in the media) statrt covering the despicable behaviors of the McCain campaign. Before he lauds himself any further, I think we need more information on his first marriage and the awful things he did in leaving his wife!

Obama '08 in Little Rock   August 24th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

If Obama breathes, the Hillary followers take offense. Hillary began as shoo-in but ran a poor campaign; even insiders from the campaign admit it. She lost. Get over it!

Reality   August 24th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

1) Obama was not ready at 12:42 a.m. to deal with a minor issue, you think he will be ready when something major pops up??

2) Obama is already trying to censor the media. Surprised?? Obama is not even an American citizen, why would you be?

Republicans and Clinton cry babies will blame this on obama in 3….2…1…and go!

Stevil   August 24th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

Good job, CNN! That's why you are the most watched news channel. As for Obama, what a joke! The more I have read (on CNN, of course) these past few days about how awful he has treated Hillary, the more I think I will vote for McCain, so we can have Hillary in the White House in 2012.

Clinton/McCain   August 24th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

Why didn't they send the text message out around 1am rather than the infamous 3am in reference to Hillary's 3am ad. This was a slap in the face to Hillary.

Chris   August 24th, 2008 6:40 pm ET

Who cares……we're ending this fantasy in November….I'm voting on racial lines like the "brothers" and McCain will be elected.

Lynda   August 24th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

I think sometimes CNN has difficulty grasping that not the entire world is on EST. It was pretty annoying during the men's swimming races to find that CNN announced the winner an hour or more before the race was actually broadcast.

Don Hiller   August 24th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

Look folks; this was not a swipe at HRC; for what? IF there was any timing of the texting at 3AM, given the supposed earlier 'leak' or possibility thereof, it was just an attempt to to deliver a weak subliminal message of "See! I CAN make an important(?) decision at 3AM…." Sorry, fellow voters, my mind filters out any such if that was the intent.

Kevin. Reality NY   August 24th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

RJ from CA, Corruption and Clintons go hand in hand in my book. You must be a teenager if you don't remember White Water from which Bill pardoned his wife.

CNN should be ashamed for breaking the story early.

3am conspiracy people (whether it's true or not) get over it, seriously, how desperate are you lot? Hillary isn't even a legitimate candidate for the Democratic nomination anymore so why would McCain OR Obama waste their time with it.

And one last thing for those Hillary supporters who only backed her because she's a women (which is sexist fyi): Feminism != Equality Equality > Feminism

david in seattle   August 24th, 2008 6:39 pm ET

Nice job….how about you now report the next president so that we can get past this crap….oh I forgot, you have to sell this crap for the next three months so that you can make the most of it….whatever happened to ethics in reporting….I am just disgusted with the TV reporters….all of you, you twist the truth by only showing clips of speeches that are shown totally out of context, you speculate where there is no basis for the least amount of accuracy and you misquote grossly. Who has the job to determine the next presidential cabinet anyway? Just report the facts O.K ? Do the nation a service and give us only the information we need to make up our minds and leave your own twist out of it…..THAT would be ethical reporting. GROW UP!

Cali_Dude   August 24th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

CNN was in the right to call it. It was the Obama Camp's failure to release the text message on Friday that caused the media frenzy to highly speculate into early Saturday AM. So, the blame goes to Obama on this one.

And….."YAWN"….."Boring"…….on the pick of Biden.

I am a Democrat and very very very Disappointed that Obama chose Biden.

Remember—Biden ran for Prez Nominee….didn't get very many to vote for him…very few delegates and he dropped out in Jan 08.

Kinda reminds me of the Bush – Cheney ticket. Cheney is older than Bush.

Biden is older than Obama…..hmmmmmm.

I can tell you this…..I am a Democrat and since this "stupid" choice for VP……..I am voting McCain. No kidding on this.

A "true" Change…..would have had Obama choosing a "Woman" as VP.

Kirk   August 24th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

Seriously, are you guys that full of yourselves? You're turning into FOX News. LOOK AT US, WE KILLED THIS GUYS IDEA OF AN EQUAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

Also, RJ from CA, get over yourself. Your state has no chance of supporting McCain anyway. Clinton supporters need to get off their racist, jealous high horses and accept that your candidate lost and that we're getting change instead of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton. Oh darn. I thought that's what this country was about.

Gene   August 24th, 2008 6:38 pm ET

I can't believe that out of this entire article, the one thing that people see is the 3:00 am part.

Let me remind you.. it was Hillary that decided to put that 3:00 am ad out… using a child actor who didn't give permission to be used for her campaign… and ironically that child actor is now grown up and a campaign volunteer for Obama :)

Why are people swiping at Obama when it was an ad from Hillary specifically designed to put Obama down?

My son is in Iraq. A democratic president will bring him and his fellow soldiers home, Your vote matters. Are you comfortable voting for McCain out of spite, knowing that he will continue this war and that we will perhaps lose thousands of more american lives?

HRC and McCain have drastically different agendas. So now that HRC won't be president you instead chose to vote for someone that will continue this war indefinitely??????

Grow up Bob.

Does anyone besides me think the entire process was handled childishly? A VP announcement via text message? Whatever happened to the good old fashioned press conference? From the hoaxes to the leak, the Obama campaign only has themselves to blame. He isn't running to be student council president….he's supposed to be running for PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! Act like it!

A shame CNN couldn't display such journalistic acumen when the Administration was falsifying the case for war.

Jeff   August 24th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

Just another example of a news network that can't help itself, ruining others' plans (including information affecting national security) for their own gain. Reference the American media's failure to keep a lid on Prince Harry's deployment in comparison to the British media's vows of silence protect their national security. This really is shameful, and I highly respect Maria Shriver's decision to leave the media in disgust.

Cynthia   August 24th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

I still think it was a great idea to let his supporters know before everyone else – it just didn't work out that way. Cool that CNN broke it first because my tv was on that channel when they first announced it.

Another Dem now for McCain!   August 24th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

You all need to get over this Hillary thing and move on. I don't think your constant divisiveness is healthy for the Democratic party as a whole. Let's use our energy to help make the United States united and strong and gain the respect from those around the world.

Inita   August 24th, 2008 6:33 pm ET

This ranks with:
1.) Not really giving Hillary the finger (twice) even though his audience applauded and he grinned sheepishly at the exact moment that he was scratching his face? I know his follows think everything he does is special but really, applause for scratching your face?
2.) He brushed HIllary off his shoulder.
3.) The announcement that HIllary wasn't the VP just happened to come at 3:00a.m..

And he wonders why Hillary's people don't fall in line.

Gene   August 24th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

The media has done far worse than this little blunder. The media constantly distorts things that both candidates say, constantly putting things out of context.

It's no wonder that people who like either candidate and dislike either candidate have gone to a point of love/hate as opposed to just preference.

If the media would report things fairly without putting their own little twist on things.. we would probably have 2 likable candidates with one that is liked more than the other.

Mike, Vancouver   August 24th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

CNN "The Most Trusted Name in News" has violated the trust of a major political party of the United States of America.

I think this should be called into question as it speaks volume to me about integrity and makes CNN look like the Paparatzi for the cable news media. Cnn will do anything to get the story, even if it breaks ethical boundaries.

As for McCains potrayal of Hillary not even being asked. We were not privy to any conversations that Barack and Hillary may have had, it may be that the party got away with one from CNN who couldn't report anything. The concept of "Hillary Not being asked is a total farce" and is intended to be a story like Brittany Spears and Paris Hlton.

A DISTRACTION.

Don't expect Obama/Biden to give it any play. A non-issue.

Dee   August 24th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

You all need to get over this Hillary thing and move on. I don't think your constant divisiveness is heaslthy for the Democratic party as a whole. Let's use our energy to help make the United States united and strong and gain the respect from those around the world.

jill   August 24th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

I don't know about anyone else, but I am sick and tired of CNN. CNN is a total distraction to the democratic process and has the potential to destroy this election with it's non stop "news". Fact of the matter is if you really want impartial news you are better off getting it from BBC.

Neutralizer   August 24th, 2008 6:32 pm ET

jeanne   August 24th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

i agree with Sam Sunny and Dylan……
CNN has been trying to wreak havoc with the Obama campaign since day one, and this is the icing.
i stopped watching CNN TV a while ago, opting for MSNBC, and now i will be changing my "home page", too.
Instead of reporting the news, since when are the networks supposed to CREATE the news??
You're the same as O'Reilly/Hannity/Limbaugh and FOX news.
guess i will switch to NPR for unbiased news!

Denise P Quinton   August 24th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

Get over yourself OBAMA, CNN has been so easy on you it is sickening. In fact, they most usually do not even post anti OBAMA blogs of any sort. Yournever deserved the candidacy, I will never vote for you even as a lifelong DNC member I will proudly cast my vote for MCCAIN…..and the DNC will realize what a huge mistake they made in choosing their golden candidate. I am appalled that someone as intellectual as Biden agreed to a V P slot with you.

RJ Kruger   August 24th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

Well, I found out at 2:48 a.m. Saturday, August 23. That was the time and date of my email. So, 3 a.m. is greatly exaggerated and, more important, so trivial and unimportant. Obama is going to use those text message numbers to remind people to GOTV on November 4. John McCain will be left in the dust–where he belongs, BTW. McCain doesn't even have enough time to learn how to make a google. What we are seeing is no less significant than Gutenberg's revolution.

dave   August 24th, 2008 6:30 pm ET

You really think Obama would consciously take a swipe at Hillary like that? Oh, come on. That would be about the dumbest thing he could do–even if he hates Hillary's guts. Why would he purposely do something like that while bending over backwards to get her supporters' votes at the convention? It was a coincidence.

If it wasn't, good for him, b/c I bet that ad in particular was the beginning of the end for Hillary's chances of being Obama's VP. You can't say things like that if you want to have a job on the other side of the primary.

Obama/Biden 08   August 24th, 2008 6:29 pm ET

Thank you very much for spoiling Obama and Biden's big announcement. Great work, CNN.

A little "whine" with that cheese!   August 24th, 2008 6:29 pm ET

Obama, quit whining that CNN rained on your parade. Obama wanted a drum roll appearance for his VP and didn't get his way. If pres, he'll whine about everything else that doesn't go his way. Is it really that important that the announcement came a few hours earlier? Yeah, blame CNN for your staff leaking info. Let's see, 'how many houses — I mean –how many confidential staffers does Obama have that can keep a secret?'

The 7-10: Anthony Palmer   August 24th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

This story just shows that old media trumped new media this time around. Even if it didn't end the way the Obama campaign would have liked, they successfully crowded out John McCain from the headlines for several days and got a whole new database of email addresses and phone numbers to work with. That matters far more to the Obama campaign than the temporary irritation of having voters' cell phones wake them up in the middle of the night.

This is partisan politics on the part of McCain and McBush. All McCain and McBush and his republican gangs are trying to do is to stir up tension with HC supporters but ironically, it will backfire. I for one, resent CNN for the rampant speculation and deceptive tickers around Obama's VP selection. I applaud the Obama campaign for bringing some sense of civility to the news cycle.

I've tired of the tabloid-like, print-it-first attitude I see in TV, cable, radio, internet and standard publications.

I also hope the Obama campaign holds those Democratic staffer that leaked the news responsible. Penalize them … let them be last to ask a question in the next press conference.

Next time, don't even tell the VP candidates since either they or there personnel can't keep their mouths shut.

Indiana Bob   August 24th, 2008 6:24 pm ET

I can't believe the Obamabots are so gullible that they actually believe this farse!! But look at the postings above!! 3:00 am was merely a coincidence!! It was all CNNs fault!! How ignorant are these people?? And how arrogant of Obama. He basically said he doesn't need my vote, That is fine because McCain will get it.

I'm tired fo hearing about the PUMAs, I'm a OBAMA supporter and I like a lot of OBAMA supporters would have been upset if he would've put her on the ticket, the annointed Clintons are where they need to be #2. The Repubs are worried can't you tell. Don't listen to the polls.

Sanjiv D   August 24th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Jpn King — looks as if he is on something just like the rest of the media.

archiesteel   August 24th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Well said Jeanette. "Operation Chaos" Limbots will jump at every chance they get to divide the Democratic party, and they can count on a minority of dim-witted Hillary supporters to march in lockstep with them. Pathetic.

Will - OKC   August 24th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

How about you all use this high-powered gumshoe ability to get the scoop on stories and events that really matter?

For example, demanding accountability from the US government for billions of taxpayers dollars that have gone missing and unaccounted for in Iraq. Do us a favor and find out where the money went, but until you do, you might want to put the brakes on the arrogant self congratulations.

Or don't, because you've lost this viewer permanently to MSNBC (and Fox News…imagine that).

NoMccain   August 24th, 2008 6:23 pm ET

Is this some sort of CNN self-aggrandizement? Are you trying to say you broke the story first?
Well, well,… we all know it was FOX News first.

nola   August 24th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

Is PUMA really a REP organization trying to create problems for the Dem so old man McCain can win?

Robert Sparks   August 24th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

And journalists wonder why they're as popular as car salesmen…now you know.

Denise   August 24th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Janey of MI, what underhanded tactics have you seen BO perform? Have you been paying attention to which campaign is doing what?

If you support McCain, that is your choice, but do not be like im and cast false accusations. There is nothing underhanded about his campaign.

I find it hard to believe that the fools who voted for Bush have the audacity to refer to another campaign as underanded. Since you voted for him twice, you must enjoy underhandedness.

Luke Brown, Charleston SC   August 24th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Media becomes Reality.

James   August 24th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Great CNN. Pat yourself on the back. Wow.

JERRY   August 24th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

This is why I hate the media. Tjey respect no one. Obama should have been allowed to break his own news first. Thast's just a fact. Everything is not about Hillary. I'm sure Obama goes to the restroom at 3 AM also. Want to make an issue of that one CNN.

Dave, Houston, TX   August 24th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

McCain has no ideas. He'll just be four more years of Bush/Cheney.

His only chance is to make America afraid of Barack Obama. That should not work. Let's hope it doesn't work.

Koko Eboko   August 24th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

Instead of trying to be first to spoil something, CNN should work on their objectivity – they are so rightwing lately, I can't even watch them anymore. Another viewer lost!

Charlotte   August 24th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

The whole process was sophmoric. In fact his whole campaign has been sophmoric, complete with ralleys of, YES WE CAN, and football stadiums.

Kevin   August 24th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

CNN should not be working for an Obama agenda. If news happens it should be reported. The Obama team must take responsibility if they leak the story.

Dan   August 24th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

I am sick and tired of these news networks with big egos who think it's a big deal to break that kind of a story. SO WHAT? CNN is falling all over themselves patting themselves on back that they did this? You're a joke!

Jake   August 24th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

I never got my text message anyway!

Matt from Jersey   August 24th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

Dear lord… What is WRONG WITH THE MEDIA?! You guys have to ruin everything!!! We do not have the right to know who the VP nominee is FROM YOU… Barrack did what he did for a reason, so his supporters would hear from HIM about HIS choice… the fact that someone leaked the info early is a shame, and shame on you. No, No it does not change anything in the long run, but it's the principle of the point: You fail, United States Media. FOX News, CNN, MSNBC… it doesn't matter, there's all a bias in this country and it needs to go away… why should I have to listen/watch BBC America for the most unbiased name in news? Plus, if anyone thinks this is a swipe at Hillary, you're grabbing at straws yet again… this news just fails all around. Good job everyone!!! Thanks for making up my mind to not care what the Media has to say anymore!

Charlotte   August 24th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

The whole process was sophmoric. In fact his whole campaign has been sophmoric, complete with ralleys of, YES WE CAN, and football stadiums.

JP   August 24th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

Obama's text messaging hype was a disaster, with fake text messages floating around and so on.

John   August 24th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

Of course CNN should be proud! Coverage is their job. Like they should report this just because BO wanted to get it out by text? Please. Good for the press.

interesting   August 24th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

Yeah and you had to send a text at 3 a.m.?

Really stupid response. CNN Roland Martin must have had you come up with that one.

Blah blah blah. Sorry Barky, not interested in a radical muslim being president even if you have a sexist, racist surrogate as your VP who though you were unqualified this year.

PUMA 2008

Anonymous   August 24th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

Yes, yes, CNN — we're all really impressed.

nhvoter   August 24th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

way to go jerks

obama   August 24th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

I can beleive this. Obama has mastered the technology aspect of his campaign. I would not have ever aired this story. You broke the story-does that make you feel better? it is typical of CNN>

Michelle Lawson   August 24th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

Let's face it, the VP with Obama was getting to be way over the top. If you have you VP choice then announce it and let's move on. All this drama was getting to be a little too much.

Kyle   August 24th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

CNN pats itself on back, after devoting countless hours to Obama's selection and freezing McCain out of its coverage. So yeah, congrats on getting played, I guess.

DrMan   August 24th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

Oh get real Dylan. If you're not going to watch CNN because they released information that basically every news organization had, then I think I can speak for them when I say Good Riddance!

Congrats CNN   August 24th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

The arrogance of BO to try to deflect his slumping numbers with that charade was laughable. Admittedly, I watched until it was clear who it was. But one HRC wasn't on the list, I officially resigned my affilitation to the Democratic party.

2000, 2004, and now 2008.

Good job, DNC. You make Republicans look like geniuses.

Republicans hate America   August 24th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

Well this is what happens when the free press has full access to a campaign not like the McPhony crooked talk express.

Hayden   August 24th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

To Dylan:

CNN, couldn't care less what you think, go back to MSNBC where you belong!

KateyGreen   August 24th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

Good for CNN. I'm glad you did your job, and ruined this elitist nonsense of texting a small group of Americans. I hope Obama learns that he needs to conside ALL Americans as he constituents, and not just the annointed few.

ahna   August 24th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

It was a swipe at Hillary regardless of who is saying it. CNN blowing Obama VP info shouldn't be a surprise to anyone either and it isn't a big deal unless everyone makes it out to be that way. None of this is.

Sarah from Delaware   August 24th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

Well, I learned at 3:23 AM when my cell phone went off right next to my head. It's kind of hilarious that it came in the middle of the night but THANKS A LOT OBAMA for making it a rough night for one of your insomniac fans.

And for real, thanks for putting Delaware on the national stage!

Pam   August 24th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

Wow, you must be really proud of yourselves.

RJ, CA   August 24th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

Sorry, Jeanette from Charlotte — not all us Hillary supporters now voting for McCain are Republicans. We're Democrats who've left the corrupt DNC and party this year and have no choice but to vote for the best candidate now left. It would have been Hillary, but now it's McCain. We're voters who care about country over party! And McCain will NOT destroy women's rights, if you're talking about Roe v. Wade. That's been on the books for 50 years and neither Dem nor Rep has touched it yet!

Karuna   August 24th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

It isn't that important in the scheme of things, but at the same time I actually was disappointed to learn about it through CNN rather than the promised text message.

Ado   August 24th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

You want a cookie? Stop being so full of yourselves.

Indiana Bob   August 24th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

A 3:00 am text message. This was a calculated move to get one last jab at Hillary. I don't need to hear excuses that are announced "with a grin." So don't blame PUMA when Obama loses. This was his decision, based on his best judgement. Many said they would vote for McCain if Hillary was not the vp, You may find that we actually are true to our word. Unlike Obama who has flip-flopped on every political stance that he stated during the primary. Again, he is all talk and no action. And for the Obamabots that are tired of hearing anti-Obama talk from Democrats and think we should move on. Too bad. postings are not the sole possession of Obamabots. I will continue to express my opinion about the hate-filled cult that is in love with The Obama.

PUMA — Vote McCain

joy   August 24th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Republicans don't care about Hillary. they are trying to destroy the Democratic party. if you are a real Democrate you will not vote for McCain. they wanted Senator Obama to pick Hillary because they already have a play book on Hillary. they can not believe Senator Obama pick Biden.

prairieguy   August 24th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

ought to change your name to RNN…Republican News Network!!

Your coverage the past several days has been to exploit the Obama/Clinton supposed fued…PUMA makes up a very small group of babies insitgatede by a Repubican. Also HRC refused to turn over Bill's papers unless it was guarenteed she would be chosen…thus refuesed to be properly vetted…she was not dissed…get the story right for a change.

No wonder your viewership numbers continue to go down!!!!

Lyons   August 24th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

I think it is ridiculous that news organizations feel that they have to break the news before an announcement is made. Did we really need to know at Midnight that he chose Biden? Would waiting until 8am been that difficult? This is paparazzi-type reporting. I do not think CNN or the others should be that proud of scooping Obama's campaign on this one.

Mike   August 24th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

You know, beside being able to break your arm patting yourself on the back, you really didn't accomplish anything. I'd like to know who that Democratic source was. I'd fire him or send him packing in whatever way possible. Jerks!

DT   August 24th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

CNN and the rest of the media has been kissing Obama's butt for months now, hoping it up their ratings. NEWS NEWS NEWS about a black person running for president, gets more attention than a white woman, I got news I now change the channel or turn my tv off when you start talking about him, especially when Roland Martin starts flabbing his racist mouth.

Linda   August 24th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

jeanette from Charlotte…..you are delusional…..

If you think million of voters will vote for Obama because You and the DNC want them to you need to see a shrink.

As a Republican President with a Democrat Congress McCain will be limited. And of course we can't forget Pelosi and Reid don't do anything anyway.

Women's rights are MORE threatened by Obama with his warped views.

Lifelong Dem family of 23 voters has gone Republican and Independent!! DNC=DoNotCall us anymore

Jo   August 24th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

Hillary to release her delegates on Wednesday. I hope you ugly bambi supporters are happy. I still won't vote for St. Obama.

Ken   August 24th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

You know, I love CNN, but I cannot believe they did that. It was a special moment for Obama supporters, and they ruined it at all hours of the evening.

…I guess they did what any business would do.

obama/not biden '08   August 24th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

this ticked me off! like cnn opened my birthday present and told me what it was.

E.C.Coleman   August 24th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

ON THE OTHER HAND…………THAT STUPID IDEA OF OBAMA'S CAMPAIGN STAFF TO SEND TEXT MESSAGES IN A FLOOD OF EMAILS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY IS PROBABLY WHAT SCREWED UP MY COMPUTER ALL MORNING…….NOT A GOOD THING FOR VOTERS OR ANYONE, FOR THAT MATTER. THE IDEA WAS TO APPEAL TO 18 YEAR OLD AND YOUNGER VOTERS? OH, YEAH….THEY'RE THE ONLY SUPPORTERS WHO WILL BE VOTING FOR OBAMA IN 08! MATURE ADULTS OVER 25 WILL BE VOTING FOR A PRESIDENT WHO HAS AMPLE EXPERIENCE AND A FINE AND REMARKABLE REPUTATION IN GOVERNMENT SERVICE. THAT MAN IS SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN, AND HE'S GOING TO WIN THE ELECTION BY A LANDSLIDE!

But, how about Madonna? If she would read Hitler's Berlin speeches she would discover that they are very similar to Obama's Berlin speech! :(

Mussolini/Hitler – Socialism/Fascism – Obama wants to redistribute our money…?

I don't think the dems want to go there! :)

Alana   August 24th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

I love you, CNN, but I can't believe you did that. I really would've liked to stick to Barack's original plan. Not happy.

APS in Hawaii   August 24th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

So CNN reports at 12:42 AM and it takes Obama 2:18 minutes to respond. Yep, guess I do not want him to get the 3 AM phone call after all.

JR, Plymouth   August 24th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

How bush for CNN to be so frantic to be first. And equally childish of the Clinton fanatics to smell yet another conspiracy. Get over it, folks.

Ben Obamacrat   August 24th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Not a big deal, except for the Repuglicans who would sell their mother to disparage BO. The 3 a.m. thing a swipe at Hillary? Gimme a break.

Jerome   August 24th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Way to go CNN. You continue to live up to your reputation as perpetual idiots.

You must all be proud for raining on someone's parade.

If you call that smart journalism than you are mistaken. I call it being a big spoiled brat.

Rick   August 24th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Our local paper (the Danbury News-Times) reported the pick in the Sat AM paper because they were tipped by an unnamed source close to Obama. An obvious ploy by the Obama campaign to make the Sat AM papers.

Gabriel Feher   August 24th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

There are two points I'd like to make. First, the charge by some Republicans that the Obama campaign intentionally released the text message at 3 a.m. as a dig to Hillary. Please! Why in the world would they want to throw a zinger at her when they're trying to unite the party with her support? Would sending the text message at 3 a.m. be worth alienating her? No one with an iota of political acumen would even suggest such a ridiculous proposition. My second point is that the media, in its ruthless ambition to beat the opposition to the punch, can ruin even the best laden plans. In this case, it was CNN. It's like you stole all the presents Christmas morning before the kids got up. Thanks… for being the grinch!

louise, SAnta Barbara, CA   August 24th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

As someone who lives on the west coast, I was over joyed with the good news as well as not having to ba awakened at 3:AM

This Hillary stuff is too much. Get over it and let's go from here all of the way to the White House. GO TEAM!!

PoliticoMike   August 24th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

Congrats CNN. Not only you ruined people's participation in this because yo unwanted to be the 1st to report it, you also have been pushing Hilliary on the guy. For crying out loud, let the campaign play out itself. Just report, don't try to dictate or sway towards anyone. Give both of the equal coverage. No more Obama hating or kissing up to McCain or vice versa.
I'm close to stopping watch your network. Hope you're proud. This prob won't get approved, so who's ever reading this, tell your Bosses they are slipping!

Richard Conn Henry   August 24th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

Hillary (and Bill) strongly support Barack and Joe for the same reason that YOU should (and I hope WILL support Barack and Joe) which is the future of our country. God Bless America!

Leslie   August 24th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

I was watching at the time and thought good for you CNN. I'm glad they screwed it up for Obama he deserved it !! He was pandering to the 'kids' that are swept away by him. Who ever lowered the voting age to 18 was nuts !!!

Debby of Florida   August 24th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Glad Billary didn't get the pick. No character.

eric   August 24th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

you guys just love to pat yourselves on the back, eh? the best team in tv, yada yada yada……don't break your arm doing it…

and by the way, it has not gone unnoticed that after the naming of Biden, your network has been non stop trying to create controversy over it….

I thought your purpose was to COVER the news, not make it..after all, are you not the best political team on earth?

cowbulls   August 24th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Of course the 3 am was a dig at the Clinton's. Obama hates them and they hate him.

PJWILSON   August 24th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

AND YOU EXPECT US TO BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS NOT HIS ORIGINAL PLAN? B.S. EVERY ONE KNOWS THAT THIS WAS A DELIBERATE SWIPE AT HILLARY AND HE WILL LOSE THE ELCECTION FOR IT.

Kathy   August 24th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

Way to go CNN!
We've been waiting forever for this, thank you for breaking it! I wasn't fair for him to wait so long to tell us after he already made his choice!!

aware   August 24th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

Sure, and the moon really is made of green cheese! :(

lou   August 24th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

WHO LEAKED THIS NEWS TO CNN?

Cole   August 24th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

Obama is the one who chose to make this into a game and to treat gullible Americans like high schoolers. I can't image how 1,000,000+ people were stupid enough to play his game. Obama loves the media when they are on his side and aren't asking him the tough questions, then his staff wants to blame CNN for actually doing their job.
Obama you have disrespected Hillary and her supporters and you will lose. The pundits may say you made a "good choice", etc…, but it is a losing choice. I predict you will get a 3:00AM phone call on Nov. 5th telling you that you lost and I hope it is MI and FL that stick it to you because Hillary is the only one who could have helped you there.

timcallin   August 24th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

I am a Clinton supporter and I'm so mad still that I'm going to sit on CNN.com and keep complaining over and over that Obama is the nominee! Someone please listen to me for the next 8 years! Oh, and send Clinton your hard earned money so she can pay off her debt. I can't afford it. Thank you!!!!

Ron Cable   August 24th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

Would CNN report a secret military mission if it found out ahead of time that would jeopardise our troops safety?

Troy   August 24th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

Wow, way to toot your own horn! Big deal.

Susan from Scotts Valley, CA   August 24th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

That's exactly what I was thinking. They told us on Friday they would announce via a text message "a few hours" before the 3 p.m. ET rally.

laurie   August 24th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

msnbc and fox are lookin better by the minute…..

obama and biden are my men   August 24th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

cnn just wants to be first on everything which is fine but they sure do show favor mccain why, because cnn workers are not financially struggling like the rest of us are and mccain is for the wealthy only.america wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!but the more mccain attacks the more i dislike him because he is not a transparent person like obama and biden. i know these two guys will make america go forward!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lescroc   August 24th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Jeanette from Charoltte! Just a question what does this have to do with the price of tea in CHINA! I think it was about CNN blowing Obama text alert!. I dont see where you can come up with the Rebublicans picking on Hilary! You way off base on this one. By the way Im with you I would rather see Hillary over Obama any day. I hope she upsets him in the mile high city…Jeanette you have a great Hillary day.

Voice of reason   August 24th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Barack Obambi has taken every opportunity to take a swipe at Clinton. That ticket would have been a slam dunk. His judgment has been poor on every issue that has come up in the last couple of weeks (ie: Russian invasion of Georgia, the moment of conception above his pay grade, and his running mate). He and the dems have blown this race!!!

hunglowman   August 24th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

its a shame that the 24 hour news cycle creates this idiotic frenzy to get a 'scoop' thats only a scoop for a few hours.

this is not a badge of honor cnn. guess I'll stick to msnbc until they resort to the same pettyness.

do you also yell 'Happy New Year' at 9pm?

Deb   August 24th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

In the end, does any of this matter? It really was a silly waste of time.

Janet   August 24th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Oh, b.s. They planned to send the message at 3 a.m. as a jab to Hillary. As with most arrogant people, Obama thinks the rest of us are too stupid to figure it out. Let's quit the cutesy high school stuff and get down to the serious business of these campaigns and the upcoming election.

Robin   August 24th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

Well, I live in the northeast and on the 11 pm local news, channel 6 ABC was LIVE at Joe Biden's house and boke the news that the police department near Biden's home in Delaware were called by the secret service asking where Biden's house was located. That pretty much answered the question on who Obama's VP pick was and that was around 11:15 pm here in NJ.

Theresa   August 24th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

3 am was his plan all along…Grow up Obama, kindergarten tactics has no place in politics.

With Michigan and Florida reinstated…I would LOVE to see Hillary take the Nomination in Denver…Mr Obama would have egg on his face for being so cocky.

Before someone accuses me of being a whiney Clinton supporter….I support no one…I am following this story from another country, for which I am glad. I would be very nervous if I were American. Not sure who will make the best leader Mcain or Obama…I pick neither.

If Ms. Clinton doesn't get the monination then maybe it's not too late for Lou Dobbs to throw his hat in the ring.

Brian   August 24th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

I don't understand how someone at CNN couldn't have just signed up to get the text message and then report it immediately after. Anyone who has access to the Internet could have had this story up in a matter of seconds–so what's the big deal if CNN "broke" the story first?

Joe   August 24th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

The whole problem that I see here is why cable news (not just CNN, but others also) seem so driven to be the ones "making" news as opposed to those who "report" the news. Doesn't that weaken the process?

jd   August 24th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

CNN's in the business of MAKING news, usually mountains out of molehills. Therefore, the intense negative scrutiny of Obama. It makes news. But CNN ranks pretty low in the business of reporting news after organizations like the BBC.
Guess this won't make it to the Ticker comments, huh?

Will   August 24th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

Wow. Good for you, CNN.

Give yourself a pat on the back.

McCain's Military Records Haven't Been Thoroughly Vetted   August 24th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

It is shockinmg that in a democracy the media is playing such a manipulative role in this election. The CNN push on the socalled controversy in the Democratic ranks is unbelievable!! Why have Carvelle on for example as a commentator when it is obvious he is a disgruntled political hack who loses his voice once Obama has the nomination.

Eric   August 24th, 2008 5:55 pm ET

Way to go CNN! Good job on keeping things open for all,

lescroc   August 24th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

ROFL… NOW is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their COUNTRY!! HEY that leaves Obama and Biden OUT!. This is a typical BLAME the other GUY. This just to show you, that Obama can not be trusted to keep is word. AMERICA BEWARE!!. If Obama gets elected this is only the begining!!!

eric   August 24th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

you guys just love to pat yourselves on the back, eh? the best team in tv, yada yada yada……don't break your arm doing it…

Steve from Dallas   August 24th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

Baloney…. Obama's staff always intended that Text to go out at 3 AM as a parting shot to Hillary supporters!

Now the Obama campaign is backing off because the 3 AM text message was seen for what is was…

Hillary 12

lol   August 24th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

another example of how obama disrespects sen. clinton. the media called him on his obvious swipe at her, and now it wasn't intentional to be sent at 3 AM. (yeah right) can't wait till president mccain is sworn in!

C Dawg   August 24th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

You better watch your back CNN, it looks like you're on the Obama-mafia black list: it was _your_ fault and not the Obama campaign's fault that the news got out early. Just wait until he's pres and nationalizes the press.

TenACity -- Solvang, CA   August 24th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

Early or late, night or day, from CNN, Barack Obama, or via text message or email I am thrilled with his VP decision!! A very wise running mate choice indeed!

Obama – Biden = Win – Win08!!

lovable liberal   August 24th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

CNN put significant effort into scooping an announcement that would have happened shortly anyway. Why won't they put that kind of effort into something useful like the sources of money in 527s or the revolving door between Republican campaigns and lobbying firms or any of another hundred stories?

Dan 4 Obama   August 24th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

Hahaha Republicans are grasping for anything to try and divide Clinton people from Obama. Its not going to work, they have messed up this country way too much for that nonsense to sink in….Obama/Biden 08!

AB   August 24th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

I hate how this election is about reading too much into things frivolous and things that won't help improve the lives of ordinary Americans. What has happened to the media that they have gotten so low? These kinds of petty distractions are not what is needed. Please report on the substantive stuff and the issues that matter to the American people.

Scott   August 24th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Aren't you guys supposed to report the news after it happens? When you become influencers, you have crossed the line.

CNN you're a disgrace…stop creating drama

Sean   August 24th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

It wasn't a swipe! Hillary brought it up, and Obama was just playing the cards he was dealt. Why does every little thing Obama does picked apart under a microscope? I mean, really… Even treatment would be nice.

Bill in Seattle   August 24th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

I had signed up to get the text message from Obama and mine never came. I was online late the night before (Pacific time) and saw that the AP and CNN were reporting Biden.

My initial reaction was that I was upset the the media didn't just wait for the text announcement. Then when I never got my text, that upset me even more.

Chris from Indy   August 24th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Frankly, I'm disappointed in BOs choice for VP. It should have been Hillary Clinton, or Evan Bayh. I think Sen. Biden is a very credible politician; however, if BO wins the general election what is the transition plan? If BO is elected to 2 terms Biden will be too old in my opinion to run for President. I think BO is looking in the moment, and not enough in the long term. Everyone talks about his "great judgement" but I'm not so certain.

I guess if he wins everyone will sing BOs praises. But if he loses, he will forever be 2nd guessed as the candidate who let a very winable election slip through his hands.

I am a Democrat, but I continue to be disappointed by and unimpressed with BO.

Leah DiMarco, Texas   August 24th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

The Obama team in Chicago (Central time zone) sent out the messages before 2am. Not everyone like the news media lives on the east coast.

CNN should report the truth! Obama headquarters is in Chicago and it was before 2 am. NOT 3am.

Messages showed up here in Texas before 2am when Obama sent them out before 2am in Chicago!!!

Lita W   August 24th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Although I am NOW an Obama supporter, this seems like a cover-up for the disrespect and intentional snub of Hillary. This is one of the reasons why I was skeptical of him and was pro-HIllary. He is very thin-skinned. Once the media catches wind of anything faulty about his campaign, he is so quick to stop and 'explain'…either through a 'speech' or an issued statement. Get tough and don't expect to rest on the guts of Biden. You snubbed Hillary, own up to it, and move on.

Jill in Chicago   August 24th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Waiting until the weekend was a dumb idea to announce Biden. It was not an earth shattering pick. Nor was it exciting as it was hyped to be. Caroline Kennedy picked Biden because he reminded her of LBJ. Just as Barack reminds her of her father. Only 18-34 year olds are falling for this.

Olivia   August 24th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

People do like drama! Enough with the 3am stuff.

Let's put all the drama behind us and move on to elect what is best for the country. I will not vote for McCain because how he treated is first wife and because he has the worst record on voting for women issues.

America's future is more important than our own little frustration.

Me   August 24th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Not a week goes by that you don't remind me why I stopped watching your programs.

CNN has no more journalist integrity than Fox. Shame shame shame, I know your three-letter name.

Ben   August 24th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Breaking News! CNN breaks story tooting CNN's horn. Wolf Blitzer responds by declaring every day Wolf Blitzer day!

James Carville   August 24th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Obama camp is just sooooooooooooooooooo sadistic and evil.

why did they choose 3:00 am exactly???????????

and why on phone?????????

why??????????

only because Hillary for President Campaign ad touted the 3:00am phone call.

BrooklynDodger   August 24th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

People are looking for any reason to claim a slight to HRC. That whole line of thinking about the 3 a.m. ad was pure speculative garbage and might well have been a GOP meme.

Foreign Observer   August 24th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Well, I found out at 3am…. that'll teach me to take my cellphone to bed with me…

SamSunny   August 24th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

And you are proud of this?

Dylan   August 24th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Hope you're real proud of yourselves CNN.

You've just lost another viewer.

jeanette from Charlotte   August 24th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

The Republicans "see" a swipe at Hillary at every turn.
They could care less about Hillary Clinton – all they want is to stir up trouble and to try and garner her supporters to their side.
Well, Hillary supporters are smarter than that – they know exactly what John McCain is up to and are laughing at him and his campaign.

Hillary is a champion for womens rights, which John McCain is out to destroy, and her supporters will never vote for him.

Just wait until the Democratic Convention is over – you'll see the full force of the Hillary supporters standing firmly with Senator Obama and Joe Biden.

Oh Please   August 24th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

I don't want to hear that mess. They had all day Friday to deliver that text message and they chose not to. Finding out just a few hours in advance of the public rally on Saturday would've been pretty useless anyway.

JOEL   August 24th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

IT WAS A SWIPE AT HILLARY YOU KNOW IT .

Hayden   August 24th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Good for CNN, the most trusted name in news!

Janey/Michigan   August 24th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

easy, now, to say the 3 AM insult wasn't planned. We all know Obama's underhanded tactics by now. Why not 1 AM or 2 AM or 1:45? Obama really thinks he can fool people? There is nothing cool about him!

John   August 24th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Nice work, CNN. What was the point of leaking this info 7 hours early? It's not like Biden is going anywhere anytime soon.

Don Hiller   August 24th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

3AM? A coincidence? I think not. How gullible does BO think his supporters are?…I withdraw my question….

Joel   August 24th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

So thats why I was rudely awakened when I forgot to turn my cell phone off.

chris   August 24th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

I'm not a Republican but I definitely think that the 3:00 AM text message was not mere coincidence. It was done to diss Hillary and reflects poorly on Obama.

Writing In Hillary In November   August 24th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Nothing new — Obama campaign just playing "innocent" again. They are so transparent!

The time WAS a deliberate swipe at Senator Clinton AND they blew the text messaging gimmick. People started complaining that they never received their text message and the Obama campaign had to come up with a reason (excuse).

It's okay — all you Obama supporters will definately get their request for donations — they've got that system perfected.

TenACity -- Solvang, CA   August 24th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Early or late, night or day, from CNN, Barack Obama, or via text message or email I am thrilled with his decision!! A very wise running mate choice indeed!

Obama – Biden = Win – Win08!!

Erica   August 24th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

oh please!

CNN broke the news at 1:00 A.M. on a Friday night. A mere 7 hours before the message went out.

The so called "scoop" had virtually no effect because 1.) the vast majority of people that are even AWAKE at 1:00 am are not sitting in front of the TV watching CNN on a Friday night!!

the text message thing might have been a bit ambitious, but its pathetic that the media couldn't just let it go and let them do their thing. No one cares.

Thomas   August 24th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

I got the email at 3:12am it was sent at 3am… It was planned, please CNN!

Tired of the Clinton's garbage   August 24th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

That is one of the problems with the media, everybody wants to be first to get the story out. Then CNN kept saying Saturday, did Obama's camp blow the text messege trick with his supporters. When in fact CNN knew all along they broke the story before Obama's camp wanted to let the cat out of the bag.

Ndalio   August 24th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

I really pray for Obama ! He'll bring fredh wind.

Karol   August 24th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

Good for CNN. Once again, this shows how arrogant B.O is. Some people ( especially his PAID bloggers ) keep talking about H.C. being a "poor looser" but B.O. is rubbing it in her face every chance he gets. Lets hope when John McCain wins that B.O likes getting his I told you so!!!!!!

Democrat for McCain 08

Ric   August 24th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

Hillary should run as an independent … with Bill Richardson. She'd win in a walk!

Klaus   August 24th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

And you're proud of this?

Republican hacks…

Angry American   August 24th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

That's typical for CNN!!!

Latinos for Obama/Biden   August 24th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

"Some Republicans and others suggested that Obama’s 3 a.m. ET email had been intended as a deliberate swipe at Hillary Clinton, who ran a primary season ad that referenced that hour of the morning to make the case she was more qualified to handle a breaking crisis."

Sad news that the Clinton loyalists aren't aware or don't accept that Panamanian McCain's campaign is playing them like fools.

Mauri   August 24th, 2008 5:37 pm ET

Well boo-whoo!!! "Twas a stupid plan anyway. What of people who had not donated to Obama's campaign, or those who do not have texting equipment? Are they without representation? Are they to stay home on election day? I would say to Mr. Gibbs that he should quit whining. CNN was only doing its job, as they usually do.

BKoi   August 24th, 2008 5:35 pm ET

This is sure the silly season ! No wonder the country is in such a mess, with this bunch of republican morons in charge!!!! What a childish lot! McCain and his pals are like Nero , he fiddled while Rome burned !! GET IT ??????

APS in Hawaii   August 24th, 2008 5:32 pm ET

What a crock, lol. Only a lame brain politician could come up with that excuse. So CNN reports at 12:42 AM and it takes Obama 2:18 minutes to respond. Yep, guess I do not want him to get the 3 AM phone call after all.

McCain 08   August 24th, 2008 5:32 pm ET

not the first time Obama will disappoint
