The DNC is returning a check from Rangel.

(CNN) - The Democratic National Committee will return a $100,000 donation from Rep. Charles Rangel's political action committee, CNN has confirmed.

DNC Spokesman Damien LaVera tells CNN the check is being returned because of Barack Obama's policy not to accept money from political action committees, and is unrelated to the recent apartment controversy surrounding Rangel. News of the returned donation was first reported in the New York Post.

Last month the New York Times reported Rangel currently leased four rent control apartments in the Harlem area, including one that was used for a campaign office - against regulations stipulating rent-control apartments must be used for primary residences. Rangel has denied any wrongdoing, but the New York Democrat said he will give up the apartment he used as an office.

House Republicans introduced a measure late last month to censure Rangel over the apartment use, but the motion was killed by Democrats.

Rangel's office has not returned a request for comment.

Jack,no I am not doing as well I as was 8 yrs. ago.Remember who had just left office,we done better those 8 yrs. than we had in a long time. Thats why we are so upset Hillary lost the Primary. Yes I will vote for Obama, but be certain we feel very disappointed Hillary has not been chosen for V.P. When if ever has people been so emotional for the one who lost the Primary. Hillary's people feel very deep, disapointed, and emotional about this.We did not want her to lose,we had great hope's for her and our country. She has so much to offer. So does her Husband, weather you like them or not. Lots of people do. Carolyn Kinser Louisville,Ky

I switched when Howard switched the votes to Obama. I am a Hillary fan and will support her but never an Obama. He has a funny name for the president, is scary, is immature and is inexperienced. He may be a second choice on the ticket but never been appointed like George Bush was appointed by the Supremes. Amazing.

McCain needs to start pointing out these little things. Obama and a democrat congress are highly explosive where the budget and a moderate supreme court are concerned.

James and Jim I am totally agreeing with you. The new non bigot/racist, low information not young Americans will ensure OBAMA wins in a LANDSLIDE. DMD, New York   August 25th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

I just read on MSNBC.com that Hillary and Obama are still working on how the roll call will be during this convention and quite frankly I am utterly appalled! Will absolutely no one let Hillary finish anything!!??! They want a limited roll call, allowing only SOME delegates to vote for Hillary and STOP the roll call when, perhaps, New York State is called to cast their delegate votes and then have Hillary delcaring the votes unamiously (sp?) go to Obama. Are the Obama people so afraid of Hillary that they have to stop short the roll call? Do they really really believe to let the roll call end when all of our states are called that Hillary would have enough delegate votes to steal the nomination from Obama? No, no, no, I cannot in all of my entire being find a reason why to cast a vote for Obama. What a disgrace.

Ken   August 25th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Hey Obamalism, for the last 16 years America has taken an IQ test, and it hads gotten decreasing scores. The scores got so bad in 2000 and 2004 that America FAILED its IQ test.

There's very little that is truly conservative about the current [R] brand of 'conservatism'. They are driven more by rightwing reactionary behavior based on fear and hate. To call that conservative is just more of the same old rightwing doublespeak, and that America falls for it is just pathetic. I'm voting for Obama, and I'd kick your a## up and down the court of conservativism. Take that to the bank.

Typical White Person   August 25th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

You are half way there to the truth Mike from Texas. In fact in living in a blue state as I do I have learned the truth about liberal Democrats. They actually pride themselves in being unethical, hypocritical, self-serving, selfish, mean spirited, and dishonest. Liberal Democrats represent the worst of this nation, those who support them support the absolute moral and ethical destruction of our once great nation. America is like an aging piece of cheese. the middle is great but the ends are completely rotten. Please understand what liberal Democrats are before you vote for Barak. If you have an ounce of decency then vote against the left, anything less is a complete betrayal of your values and morals.

Obamalism   August 25th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

for the last 16 years, a bipartisan polling group has asked the question of how people label themselves.

1. strongly conservative
2. somewhat conservative
3. moderate
4. somewhat liberal
5. strongly liberal

since 2002, on average, 60% of all voters picked #1 or #2.
37% of all voters picked #4 or #5
and only 2% of all voters picked #3

This is why Obama is trying to avoid the label of being a liberal. This is why this race is nearly tied when, by all accounts, the dems should be running away with the election. The majority of American's do not agree with the liberal policies of the democratic party and it will show in November.

Tom Eyemdaman   August 25th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

I think it's too late for Obama. He's losing steam going INTO his convention? He'll get a slight bump afterwards, but then the Republicans will show you how real change can be done. With Obama's liberal policies, nothing will get done in congress. We need a moderate who can reach across the isle and comprimise to accomplish our goals.

Michael, before you get too excited, the increased number of votes is a factor of the larger population in 2004 than in previous years.

On a precentage scale, Bush does not come even close to the highest.

Humberto, you sound silly. The DNC returned the money and the democrats killed a motion to censure Rangel. What part of that is hurting Senator Hillary Clinton. Get the facts straight before commenting!!!

What’s the difference? One side taking from some and giving to others, the other side taking from a different group and giving to a different group. It is all vote buying. Just get a sign, "Beer for Free Vote for ME!”

No new ideas, just waste more money. Social Security is broke they say. Who broke it? Congress spending the surplus for years. The answer, not stop spending, it is give us more money to have more surplus to waste. Just say NO to your junkie money habit.

Answers are quite simple. Just do what is right for America, all of us, not yourself to get re-elected. Obama is right about change. We need a new Congress. Go Home – Get a Job!

You people epitomize hypocracy and stupidity
______________________________________________________
remeber when McSAY-ANYTHING, laughed when a female supporter called Hillary a B***h????? Yeah he's really concerned that hillary was not selected for VP.
McWAR knows he can appeal to "some" of the less educated Hillary supporters using his latest ads.
Had Obama picked Hillary, he would have ran the same types of ads he did Biden ,

SIMP   August 25th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

DUH Michael can you read? They returned the money, get it boy you people sicken me anything CNN out out there you dummies believe.

CNN where are the articles about mccain and his dirty dealings? You are so bias. If Obama got a parking ticket you idiiots at CNN will make that your headlines. Obama

Nadine   August 25th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Charlie Rangel true colors finally surface to light. He's so two-faced and PUMA democrats - you have been exposed! America is ONE nation, NOT TWO!

Paul   August 25th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Open your 3rd eye, Jim, Im with you guys too!!

Im 19, and proud to be young for the first time!! We will, and have to make the difference this year!! Old folks cant see things the way we do.. they see too much history! we see the future!!!

YOUTH FOR OBAMA/BIDEN 2008!

Abby   August 25th, 2008 3:02 pm ET

dear Open Your 3rd Eye, please be sure to not be complacent on election day. The argument against the young is that they sometimes get lazy and don’t actually turn out to vote. Please, please make sure you and your rinds vote. As long as our voices are heard, I can live with the out come. What hurts is, like 2000, wondering if only we came out stronger/...

BK   August 25th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Obama tried this once before when he wasn't doing well in the polls. Biden is in the pockets of special interests and that didn't bother Obama. This guy is a fraud and people actually fall for it. UNBELIEVEABLE

james   August 25th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Its seems as if the media is obsessed with promoting the republican agenda of dividing the democratic party by constantly harping on the Hillary Clinton supporters more than Obama's historic candidacy. Are the media;including the "left wing media" really rooting for a Mccain win, or is it just for the sake of ratings.

American Son   August 25th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

well, well mista charlie.....thought he would fall for the bait huh????

no,no,no. not this time sir. now you have to respond and try to "rangle" your way outta this!!!

we know what the real deal is, mista charlie....it's OBAMA/BIDEN '08!!

Michael   August 25th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

In 2004 more people voted for Bush than ever voted for a President in history. We all like McCain better than Bush, we know he is not Bush. He is his own man and we will all be voting for him in 2008. Nice try Obama, but liberial Democrates don't win with mainstream America.

gluv   August 25th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

keep deleting my post...

but fox news >>>> CNN

at least fox news exposes their bias openly...

CNN should be ashame for yourselves...no other network is behaving this childishly...

hillary lost...she moved on and supports obama. stop this karl rove divisiveness that y'all are using...

also, PROPS goes out to the DNC for standing up for their integrity and abiding to obama's standards

Humberto   August 25th, 2008 2:59 pm ET

No, the reason that they are messing with Rangel is because he was a Clinton supporter. I watched this guy and I like him. The Obama's tend to try and punish people if they go against them, kind of like a socialistic society attitude. Just like Obama would not let the Journalist on the plain with him that worked for the magazine who printed the satire of him and his wife. Does he not know that this is the land of the free, that includes speech and the press. This is the same reason that he will not appear on Fox news, let alone debate John McCain, he turned down an invitation at the Fort worth armed forces family barracks with an explanation that he had scheduling problems, never to contact them again.

Humberto in California

Vegas   August 25th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

House Republicans introduced a measure late last month to censure Rangel over the apartment use, but the motion was killed by Democrats.

Just another example of a totally worthless congress... Thanks Pelosi

Biffington, Biff   August 25th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

To: Open your 3rd eye.

THANK YOU.

The Democratic party NEEDS you. We need your ideas, we need your ideals, we need your energy, we need your ENERGY, we need your ENTHUSIASM...

Those who wish to turn this country around CANNOT DO IT WITHOUT THE YOUTH VOTE.

Voter   August 25th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Good. Let Rangel make a tax deductible donation to someone who needs it. The Obama campaign has collected an obscene amount of money.

They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Charles Rangel has done more for New York City and the national Democratic Party than any one of those hypocritical jerks.

William, from Cali!   August 25th, 2008 2:58 pm ET

Charlie Rangel is another old geezer, that's been in Washington to long; "disguising as a public servant"!

Theresa   August 25th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

To PUMA members: Turn about play is a MOTHER! If your girl Hillary runs in 2012, don't expect too many Dems voters to stand behind her and Bill. One thing about a certain group, "WE FORGIVE, but WE DON'T FORGET!" If you all keep it up with your negative comments about Obama, Hillary will not have a chance in HELL in getting in the White House in 2012. I guarantee that you our chickens will come home to "ROOST"!

Rudy NYC   August 25th, 2008 2:56 pm ET

Is it legal to give to Clinton? No wait. Charlie might be able to do that himself if the donors have not already donated to Clinton.

whotoo   August 25th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

Bill Clinton did not become governor of the United Stattes to know about international before running for president in 1992. He was Arkansas' governor. A law school graduate. Barack Obama qualification is based upon almost the same. A state senator, law school graduate. Why are people still questioning his experience?
George Bush was a governor before becoming president no international experience. America, stop and think. The question is should we give chances to people with intellectual capabilities to lead or people with poor judgements?

JD FROM NEW YORK   August 25th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

NOW THAT'S JUDGMENT YOU CAN BELIEVE IN.....GO OBAMA KEEPING YOUR WORD....

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ADULT LIFE, I AM A PROUD AFRICAN AMERICAN!!!!

Katrina   August 25th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

Wow, integrity in politics! Go, Obama!

Paul   August 25th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

OBAMA!!!! BIDEN!!!!!!!!! 2008

BE PROUD OF OUR COUNTRY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 8 YEARS!

Michael "C" Lorton, Virginia   August 25th, 2008 2:54 pm ET

As Joe Kennedy once said, "don't buy one more vote than you need."

Jim   August 25th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Open Your 3rd Eye, I'm 23 and I'm with you on that, these PUMA'S think they can hold a party hostage, they have a hard lesson coming to them in November, and it will be from their children! I cannot wait until November, there will be a huge new voting block, we will be out in full force, the college folks, the one's who actually have a head on their shoulder's and don't judge a book by it's cover. I cannot wait until November!

Rudy NYC   August 25th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Wasn't he a Clinton supporter?

At least until late in the primary season when it was becoming apparent that Clinton was not going to win the nomination.

Cynthia   August 25th, 2008 2:51 pm ET

Great that the DNC is sticking to what is there new policy of not accepting money from political action committees. I'm sure they would have loved to have the money but the rules are the rules.

Open Your 3rd Eye – your comment sounds like music to my ears!

Jamie from San Francisco   August 25th, 2008 2:50 pm ET

we as obama supporters can afford to return the money. it's the right thing to do and we will just donate more to recover the loss, so it's OK.

Bendo   August 25th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

all you repugs....take that!

begining of the end of empire?   August 25th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

IN SHORT:

STOP BUYING CORPORATE PRODUCTS ALTOGETHER!

THAT WILL BRING THEM TO THEIR KNEES, and

THE PEOPLE CAN START ALL OVER AGAIN FOR A MORE JUST WORLD!

Open Your 3rd Eye   August 25th, 2008 2:47 pm ET

REALITY CHECK:

THE YOUTH WILL TURN OUT IN MILLIONS ON ELECTION DAY. THE VAST MAJORITY FOR OBAMA. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I AM 26 YEARS OLD (FROM FLORIDA) AND ALL OF MY FRIENDS, AQUAINTANCES, AND/OR YOUNGER FAMILY MEMBERS HAD THEIR MIND MADE UP FROM DAY ONE. THE OLDER FOLKS ARE SWAYING THE POLLS, WE DON'T GET POLLED. THIS WHOLE THING HAS BEEN QUITE ENTERTAINING TO US BECAUSE WE KNOW WE HOLD THE KEY. AND WE LEARNED FROM YOUR PAST MISTAKES AND WILL NOT ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN. MUCH LOVE TO YOU ALL, BUT OBAMA WILL TAKE THIS ONE HOME.

Alex   August 25th, 2008 2:46 pm ET

Too bad, I Like Rangel, he has a long history of doing whats right...

There's a New Sheriff in Town ... and his name is Barack   August 25th, 2008 2:45 pm ET

Obama ... a man in control of his party ....

Would love to see McCain wield this type of influence over a senior GOP member of Congress.

Lorna, NY   August 25th, 2008 2:44 pm ET

Can they give to me?

jason, tx   August 25th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Obama 08/12

Sharon from Dumfries Virginia   August 25th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Jim   August 25th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

Wow no pact's means no pacts, and boy that's a lot of money! Way to stick to your word Mr. Obama!

Nando, Florida   August 25th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

Sorry Charlie !!!! Money's not good here

Ron democrat turned independent   August 25th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

and we are supposed to believe that. now you know why obama as trouble pulling ahead in the polls it's called credibility

gm   August 25th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

GOOD FOR THE DNC. POLITICIANS ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW...

Michael   August 25th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Looks like another housing problem for Obama. Who was it said that only Republicans were corrupt?

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   August 25th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

PAC money was one of those things that Obama said you can do without. Apparently, that means even your supporters and fellow Democrats. I think that might go a little too far, but the rules were clear.

tedious898   August 25th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

Charley Rangel has enriched himself over the last 40 yrs, while the black community lost it's faith, family and values. 0Bama hasn't done much better... John McCain will put America first.

Thomas   August 25th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Once again the Democrats show that they can do the right thing without fanfair or coverups.

NoMcSame   August 25th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Good job Obama, he is a Hillary man anyway. They are trying to get you in a trickbag. WATCHEM.
Obama08

Tony   August 25th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

After the last devastaing, horrific yeras under Bush and his administration, this hardly warrants mentioning.

Must be a slooooooooooow day for you folks at CNN. Perhaps you could help those idiot folks from Fox who set off the sprinkler system in Denver and ruined all of their own equipment.

Look Ahead   August 25th, 2008 2:39 pm ET

Lie and Deny.

AL in West Palm Beach, FL   August 25th, 2008 2:36 pm ET

Hey Mc-AskTheHelpCain-Cain....do you see how a leader keeps his word. There is nothing comparable to that, you've done...since you've become the RNC puppet.
