DENVER, Colorado (CNN)– A new national poll has a mixed message for Democrats as their national convention gets underway.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation out Monday shows that President Bush's approval rating remains extremely low, at 30 percent. That would appear to benefit the Democrats.

But the survey suggests that the public is not convinced that Senator John McCain, R-Arizona, would follow Bush's policies if elected. So Bush's unpopularity may not rub off on the presumptive Republican nominee.

"Voters are divided over whether McCain would continue Bush's policies. That's one reason why McCain is competitive. Imagine what this election would look like if George W. Bush were running for re-election or Vice President Dick Cheney were running to succeed him," says CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider.

Can’t stop but laughing to see all the Obama supporters cry already. I’m a life long democrat and have never voted for republicans but every time I read these hateful comments from Obama supporters against Senator Clinton, I am thinking about CHANGEing my voting record too.

RG   August 25th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Thank You Democrats. I would have bet everything a year ago that Republicans would lose the election. Now it appears that we are going to win because of Hillary. I've hated the clintons for years, but now they are my new best friends. Thank You!

Willow, in Iowa   August 25th, 2008 10:51 am ET

What percentage of people even have a landline phone anymore? I'm 56 years old, and haven't had a landline in over 4 years. A cell phone is more convenient, and I can take it with me anywhere.

This race isn't as close as they seem to think. The younger a person is, the more likely they depend on a cell phone. The only ones with JUST a landline anymore are over 65.

Honay Rogers   August 25th, 2008 10:50 am ET

It's so sad to know the country's on the wrong track and there are so many not willing to give this young, thoughtful and intelligent man a chance a making our lives better. You know McBush will have the same policies and he's far more dangerous as a commander in chief and those Senators know it. McBush loves war. He is obviously mentally ill. Has anyone examined him lately, mentally. Not senile, just war crazy vecause of his POW status. I'm going with the new guy. He;s intelligent enough toknow when he needs help and I am sure he will ask for it. The world is looking as us. We need our friends. We can't fight everyone alone. Vote Obama 2008.

georgia   August 25th, 2008 10:50 am ET

I am a strong Clinton supporter who just shakes her head in wonder and people who would potentially place McCain in a position to name Supreme Court justices rather than vote for Obama. You would cast your vote for spite?!? What a waste.

Val, Atlanta, Ga   August 25th, 2008 10:46 am ET

Has anyone in this blog been polled because I have not, nor has anyone I know. Thats why I don't believe these polls, Americans are truly not that stupid to put another republican in office.

The Clintons did an awesome job while serving in the White House, jobs were available, housing was afordable, food was not on the high rise, and we could buy gas to go visit our relatives and friends.. NO ONE can take that away from them, we love you CLINTON'S . There is some strategy here where others are claiming to be democrats , when truly they are not, in order to steer people away from voting..GO WITH YOU HEARTS.

It is the old fight between the American dream and the American lie. Last years the lie succeeded.

Bill   August 25th, 2008 10:41 am ET

The mixed signals now could be because Biden is a well-known liar and has been called on his claims by the media. What do you want?
A dirty old politician or a liar?

Foreign observer   August 25th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Having a party in the back even the President is forced to stick to the party mainstream. This simply means that McCain will have to stick to the Bush policies.

CTP   August 25th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Most Americans are low-information voters. They receive very little information and then cast their votes. That's why people might vote for McCain, a man who will represent the wealthy, the oil companies, and the Bush Administration's policies. Think McCain isn't another Bush? Just look at his voting record and his complete flip-flop on everything important to him in the last 2 years. It's self before country for John McCain.

BK   August 25th, 2008 10:39 am ET

McCain is not George Bush. Obama is inexperienced and arrogant. I have been a dem all my life, no longer. Obama is too far left and McCain is more near the center. I don't have a problem at all voting McCain because I trust him. I do not trust Obama.

Now that Obama did not select Hillary as his running mate, my family will be voting on McCain. He is strong on National Security, and has made that of a higher priority.

Americans cannot risk national security for a barrel of oil. We can replace oil with alternative fuels, but cannot bring back the life of a loved one caused by a terrorist.

and it is so important that we feel safe in this country.

Silly Obamabots...

Dont act so shocked that Mccain isnt seen as Bush. Its very obvious through his actions over the past 26 yrs he is not. Oh but I forgot you all focus on words and not actions lol...

Obama if anyone is following in the footsteps of Bush. A young and inexperienced candidate picking his Cheney-esque VP Biden...all while running on a platform of unity and change. WHen in reality he hasn't ...in action... reflected either of these 2 mantras. You are all blind... and your support is so obnoxious that it like the media drives more people away than toward Obama...lol You are so clueless

PA   August 25th, 2008 10:15 am ET

It’s funny to hear Clinton supporters justify not voting for a person who has almost identical positions on about every issues she did. They have similar experience in elected office, so what is the real reason these individuals don’t embrace him? Hum, could it be racism, sexism, or maybe they are just sore losers? I can only speculate, but in the end I think there are only a few of them that would have supported her, and the rest would have voted for the republicans in November or voted in unison with their republican husbands.

lol   August 25th, 2008 10:14 am ET

mccain has been a maverick throughout his long career in politics. his history reflects he crosses the aisle, and works with democrats, as well as republicans. mccain has always put his country, before politics, and his record reflect that.

Hey CNN, how about reporting all the polls, not just yours?

Obama Leads McCain by 49% to 43% in Washington Post-ABC Poll

I understand you hate reporting good news for Obama, but you are a news organization (sort of).

More good Obama news you failed to report, New York Times/CBS poll of Dem convention delegates 60% of Hillary’s delegates enthusiastically support Obama, 31% support him with reservations or because he’s the nominee, and 5% don’t support him at all.

So make sure you report the views of the 5% delegates more then the views of the 95%! I am sure you will because that story gets better ratings!

I AGREE WITH GERALD IN GEORGIA! CNN has become VERY biased, seems that all your anchors are constantly focusing on anything negative about Sen. Obama. While McCain gets away with all his gaffes!

I discussed these polls with someone who majored in statistics. They said that even when the pollsters attempt to "estimate" how many people they can not poll because they have ONLY CELL PHONES...... that then the ERROR quotient GROWS BIGGER.

So, CNN can put out polls everyday, but the POLL THAT REALLY MATTERS IS IN NOVEMBER!

ARE YOU BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE 8 YEARS AGO?

obamaton   August 25th, 2008 10:07 am ET

One thing is for sure, Mr. McCain definitely won't continue many of the Bush policies. He and the President disagree as much as they agree.

Obama-Junkie, IL   August 25th, 2008 10:04 am ET

Great?! Another poll. Thanks CNN. {MAJOR SARCASM HERE!}

Polls are good only after a result is known. Once Obama garnered enough Democratic delegates to become the presidential nominee the polls starting making sense.

If Obama and his campaign ran strictly according to the "polls" Obama would have dropped out the presidential race in August of 2007.

The main organizations out there concerned about polls at this stage are the polling firms (looking to sell there services) and the mainstream media (looking to out-scoop each other). No one has explained what the methodology (who, where and what) used behind these polls.

CNN will always be the Clinton News Network.

W.A. Stokins   August 25th, 2008 10:04 am ET

This quote from A. Stevenson in 1956 is even more applicable today. At one rally, a female supporter shouted out, ' Mr. Stevenson, every thinking-American is with you.' To which he replied, ' that's unfortunate, since I need a majority.'

Any "thinking" American would vote for Obama since 4 more years of the same garbage will completely destroy this country. We are barely hanging on right now..jobs are dissappearing, foreclosures, national debt at unsustainable levels. Four more years will finish us off and usher in a new age..with Chinese domination as the new world superpower. (...40% of our national debt is owed to China...)

Your CNN/Opinion Research Polls are highly suspect. With 80% of the country correctly believing we're on the wrong track, there is NO WAY people are going to vote for a continuation of the same old Bush policies under John McCain. I think your pollsters need to stop asking Lou Dobbs and Glenn Beck for input. They've both had it in for Obama since day one!
OBAMA/BIDEN '08 AND '12!!!

President McCain?   August 25th, 2008 9:58 am ET

McCain is no George Bush that is for sure.

And Barack Obama is no Bill Clinton.

That means McCain has a good chance at winning in November. Think anything differently and you are in the dark.

Dealt   August 25th, 2008 9:58 am ET

McCain favours oil drilling (a non-solution), he favours American forces remaining in Iraq as long as "necessary" (to whom and for what?), he also would like everybody to be as rich as he is (nice of him, ain't it?). he hasn't a clue how, and doesn't feel the government should do anything to level the field. He's not raising taxes (so he says... Bush Sr said it too) which means he won't be doing anything at all (there's nothing left over after the heroic efforts to maintain "democracy" all over the world). In short, he doesn't have many non-Bush ideas, and those he has are very thin as to how.

Barack did not pick Hillary because Hillary did not want the vetting process to look into Bill and her donors for the Clinton Library. There is probably a lot of things that the Clinton supporters do not want to hear what their "leader's" shrewd business practices after the White House brought them. How else can someone spend millions of her own money when she does not make that much as a senator and he not that much on a former president's salary. Explain that one loyal Clintonites – it is time to get aboard the Democratic ticket – have you not seen what the republicans have done to us? McCain has unfortunately adopted many of Bush's failed policies (torture, tax cuts for the wealthy/corporations, privatization of SS, etc.). These polls are a joke. CNN had 2 polls within a few hours yesterday, one claiming Obama was ahead the next he wasn't. Instead of taking multiple polls per day which are not accurate, why not concentrate on some State Polls which will determine the election. When asked last nite about the young voters who are never polled, the answer from the "experts" from CNN, "we factor in those voters", How can you "factor" in how someone will vote? It appears CNN has become one of the many networks making up news these days. Not to mention the constant stories that are breaking news about how the Dems are falling apart due to the Clinton factor. I hate biased news coverage, that's why I turn the channel when Lou Dobbs is on bashing Obama nite after nite. "Independent" I think not. I hope you will spend the same amount of time attacking everything McCain does during their convention, that would be refreshing as McCain only gets positive coverage from the Conservatives at CNN.
I will be shocked to see this comment posted as most of mine just await "moderation".

I love my country and as ex-republican, I never thought I'll ever say this... but if we, the people of this great country of ours elect to have McWar over Obama even after he's made it very clear that he'll do nothing but follow the failed policies that have almost driven our great country to the ground, I'm sorry to say it but we'll probably get what we deserve.

Please America, lets wake up and not only vote for our future but also for our children's future.

Obama 08

JC   August 25th, 2008 9:40 am ET

The simple fact is Bush and McCain are nearly polar opposites at the Republican end. Bush is far more right wing and McCain is very moderate/centralist. That is like saying every single person in a party is exactly the same. McCain won't continue to the same policies that Bush has done, even though the Obama camp is trying to portray them as two of the same. They are not and I am glad that so many see through the lies and fear attacks.

Dash Riprock   August 25th, 2008 9:40 am ET

It doesn't matter if McCain will further Bush's policies (even though we know he will), he's disqualified because he's as crazy as a brickhouse rat- the GOP may not want to face facts, but the senator from Arizona has repeatedly shown that he's rapidly losing control of his faculties-

They'll no doubt blame his mental imbalance on his being a former POW, but that over-played card is getting REALLY old, REALLY fast.

Moreso than this bogus poll, I'm more concerned about CNN's recent shift from (almost) balanced coverage, to flat-out right wing cheerleading- Can John Q Public see through them? I think he can... Maybe they should do a poll on THAT.

Janice   August 25th, 2008 9:40 am ET

Charlene,

Being black isn't his problem. Being a lying flip flopper is. Sounds like you need to get over yourself

Shari, NY   August 25th, 2008 9:39 am ET

It has been said that John McCain has changed. Well I do know for a fact that he has no problems being a part of a smear campaign against his opponent. Let the polls say all they want. It is said that a vast number of pepole (esp. African Americans) are not registered to vote. Can you imagine if they were to get change that and come out in record numbers?

joshua   August 25th, 2008 9:38 am ET

Mike   August 25th, 2008 9:38 am ET

Any American that can't see that McCain is simply a Bush clone is either very stupid or completely naive!! Wake up and start paying attention!

TESAP;SAVANNAH, GA   August 25th, 2008 9:37 am ET

OK on CNN just a minute ago, it was stated that they factor in people without landlines such as young people who rely only on cell phones, so, the polls are only people who have a land line... and some other calculation is used for the millions of young people who use only cell phones...... so the results are NOT ACCURATE AT ALL..... THANKS FOR CLEARING THAT UP. :)

Shirley-Ohio   August 25th, 2008 9:37 am ET

Polls, Polls, Polls. For 2008 history is being made and this is the year for history to be including the polls being totally wrong as they were in North Carolina. The media is the one dividing the patient.

No one give a rats A about Hilliary's ignorant supports.

Hillary thought she was going to divide the party, but it backfired on her and now she is scambling to fix it and Obama is just sitting back watching.

Obama knew exactly what Hilliary and Bill were going to do which is why he is doing his speech in front of the American People and not the Democratic Convention where he knew Hillary and Bill was going to try to take over.

Future politians, black and white better take notes from Obama if they too want to one day become president.

Scott of Sydney   August 25th, 2008 9:37 am ET

Mike of Texas. Same policies from same party so the hat fits. Marc of Toronto, I hope you are right. I do know that its a race of which party has the most doubters at the moment according to the polls. If so, the Republicans have much more to fear. After all the economy has tanked on their watch. President Clinton's slogan of "Its the Economy Stupid" is as relevant today as it was then. What I do not understand is how people fall for Republican mantra about cutting taxes. When was the last time Republicans cut taxes for people under say $500,000, not exactly the poorest salary out their.

Sue/PA   August 25th, 2008 9:36 am ET

The poll is wrong....PUMAS asked pollisters to poll as if Clinton was on the ticket( as pres. nom.)...and some pollisters bought into the request.....guess what folks...CLINTON IS NOT ON THE TICKET!!!!

In my entire life...and it has been a long fulfilling life, have never seen two senior adults act like such immature children.

If democrats lose this very very important election....The Clintons are to blame.

Hillary could have put all the rifts to rest along time ago

McCain will make sure you dont even have a wallet to put whatever "pennies" you are able to earn in.

CNN POST THIS MESSAGE

Jeff   August 25th, 2008 9:35 am ET

The biggest reason McCain is competitive is that many of us (Democrats) do not trust that Obama will be much better than Bush. He is smarter to be sure, but also just as inexpirenced and arrogant. We have lived through two terms of a President who, when campaigning, was all arrogance and rhetoric, do we really want another?

proud army and navy mom   August 25th, 2008 9:32 am ET

these polls mean nothing. it's just the PUMA=fake democrats/cowardly repugs showing their bitterness.

the guy in the army on an yesterday's blog statement was so true. He talked of how these bitter people are helping to ruin our country and that they are not true patriots.

"For the 100th time the polls are not accurate because they DO NOT account for all the Obama supporters that only use cell phones or live abroad. "

How many times are we going to hear this? The number of people that don't have land lines is realtively small. In addition, people have posted on CNN that they were polled via their cell phones. It all depends on if and where your cell number is listed.

LET IT GO   August 25th, 2008 9:30 am ET

CNN IS STILL UPSET THAT THEY BELOVED HILLARY LOST, SO OF COURSE THEY ARE RAINING ON BARACK PARADE.

Why?   August 25th, 2008 9:29 am ET

Why do people question these polls? Do you not understand how a margin of error and sample sizes work?

A group of just 2,000 people is statistically able to forecast votes for millions of people. Yes its true! The math is quite simple. Typical left wings nuts, rather sit there and complain then do any heavy lifting. Take 10 minutes, read something about statistics and try to understand it.

They don't use cellphones? please, they don't have to. The polls are accurate within the margin of error. The math cannot be disputed.

(anyway young people use cellphones and they don't vote. Oh they say they will, but when forced to choose between drinking some more beer or voting, they will select the beer. Hell thats what I did when I was 22).

anna   August 25th, 2008 9:28 am ET

John McCain has built a career on challenging the traditional Republican platform on a host of issues. I never believed the frantic, desperate Democratic cry this year that John McCain is a continuation of the same old Bush policies.
Actually,
I am tired of the SAME OLD labels myself:
Democratic vs. Republican.
People that continue the worn battlecry of the woes the opposing party will bring do not give me any confidence of expecting any change, anytime soon.
If Obama ran as an Independent, I might have believed him.

Mike - Texas   August 25th, 2008 9:27 am ET

I think that it is even more basic than that.

Yes Bush's approval rating is at 30%, actually I think that is up from 28%.

But the democraticly controlled Congress has a approval rating of only 9%.

Simple math, the democrats are doing a worse job than Bush.

Think about it.

The economy was doing fine until the democrats took over congress. Gasoline prices were just $2.63 per gallon 1 year ago.

The president can't do anything without congress, so it must be their fault.

Ed   August 25th, 2008 9:27 am ET

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. McCain has voted 95% of the time with Bush and will continue the same policies that haver crippled our country. If you want to vote for McCain and expect things to get better in this country, you are insane.

No matter what Hillary Clinton asks of her supporters, many are not going to vote for Obama. We have a right to vote for the candidate that we feel will be the strongest and Obama AIN"T it. So McCain here we come. McCain is certainly better than Obama. To you who want to write in Hillary, that will just give the election to Obama, and I am sure you do not want that. Vote for McCain in 08 and hopefully, for Hillary in 2012.

That is what is causing gas prices to go down; not an improvement in our economy.

WHO IS BEING POLLED?????

Ace   August 25th, 2008 9:23 am ET

McCain is like Bush? Do some research – they are nothing alike. The Democrats numbers are falling because of Congress' inability to get anything done since the Democrats became the majority, and the voters are starting to recognize that. Congress has an even lower approval rating than Bush! I think it's time for Nancy Pelosi to be voted out – but unfortunately her main opponent is a far-left nut job named Cindy Sheehan.

Ernie in LA   August 25th, 2008 9:23 am ET

For all of you people who want to get polled, please get a land line and shut up. Remember, polls mean nothing unless they are in your favor.

Ron L   August 25th, 2008 9:23 am ET

I am not surprised...WHY??
1) The average American can be so easily duped..for instance you can have 1000 experts come out and tell you off-shore oil drilling will not make a difference for 10 years and even when it does come on line it will have a very small impact. But still if a candidate tells them it will help they would rather believe him than the experts.
2) The average American is quicker to believe the NEGATIVE rumors about most candidates if they hear it often enough WITHOUT even checking it out themselves.
3) The average American will allow the media to take a positive thing and turn it negative ESPECIALLY if it is about someone they don't like in the first place. I mean really when was the last time you ever heard a candidate get condemned because they are actually well-received by the rest of the world.
4) The average American still has not learned the REAL reason George Bush has been a POOR President is because he was of AVERAGE intelligence and did not fully comprehend the potential negatives of his actions. We need VERY SMART people to be the President. Do NOT delude yourselves with Sen. McCains military service. While it is important and a great story, we need to put that to the side and check everything else out about the man. That will be a better indicator of the type of President he will be...and frankly I believe it will be VERY CLOSE to what we have had the last 8 years.

Karrie   August 25th, 2008 9:22 am ET

I just had a thought - Isn't President Bush going to speak at the Republican convention? Pres Clinton did it in 2000 when they nominated Al Gore. Won't it be hard for McCain to distance himself from Bush then, or are they telling Bush he shouldn't come to the convention? Nothing would surprise me anymore.

Debby   August 25th, 2008 9:22 am ET

Well finally maybe an accurate poll because its been a long Democratic Primary. I suspect those Hillary supporters are signing up on John McCains ticket. Watched Fox and an a woman advisor to McCain is at the convention meeting with alot of Democrats today to discuss voting for McCain. She said they asked for the meeting so she flew out there to talk with them. I think the Dems. might gain in the young sector but lose big time in the older established voters.

Ron, NYC   August 25th, 2008 9:21 am ET

I'm waiting for Cindy McCain to release her tax statements and for John McCain to give us insight on how he qualified for flight school ahead of dozens of better qualified candidates.

McCain is now pandering to the Bush crowd, because without their "support" he's going nowhere. Well, he's going nowehere anyway because McCain-2008 = Dole-1996!

Randy S.   August 25th, 2008 9:19 am ET

NOt sure why I even bother commenting, you Obamabots, are obviously not thinking clearly. To the guy who said Obama is a shrewd poltician: please, he's barely even been a politician. I mean, what makes him shrewd? The way he changes his stance on every issue to come down the pike, depending on which way the political wind is blowing. He's an empty suit with a teleprompter.
If he wins, you will be paying higher taxes in 4 years, I don't care what your income is.
If he wins and gets his windfall profits tax on the oil companies you will be paying more for gas. You don't really think the oil companies are gonna pay it do you. It will trickle down to the "common man".

I've said it before, and I'll say it one more time: If you want to see where Obama's plans are gonna take this country, just check back to the Carter administration, because Obama's plans are a carbon copy of what DIDN"T work before

Dave in Houston   August 25th, 2008 9:18 am ET

Keep it close, Mainstream Media, then the electronic voting fraud that the Republicans will pull off will be easier to swallow.

If the right-wing media actually asked McCain the hard questions and showed how Bush-like he really is, then Obama would be lading by double-digits. Then, the electronic voting fraud will finally be confronted. It has gone unchallenged in 2000 and 2004, because the media let Bush keep it close.

jp,michigan   August 25th, 2008 9:18 am ET

Joe Biden would have been a beter choice for Sect. of State. Choosing him as vice president, only shown American voter how inexperienced Obama really is. If it were the Biden/Obama ticket as a independent I would vote once again democratic, but not for the Obaama/Biden ticket.

This country is far more behind than any one wishes to admit. The fact that a Hillary Clinton voter would move from her to John McCain shows where this country really is. Race is a HUGE factor. Obama and Clinton share the same ideas and beliefs McCain shares none. It's sad. I say go for it vote McCain and see where we end up with another 4 years of Republican rule. I am so afraid but I will ride the ride just to prove my point. We will suffer and suffer greatly if another Republican president is elected.

with a democratic congress that rarely stands up to the current administration, I can see whay the democrat ratings have gone down, but I can't see why the GOPs have gone up. Last time I checked they were still on the wrong side of every issue.

Probably at least a third of the US use primarily cell phones which are not polled like land lines if at all. Also if you look at the individual polls over several months time, certain polls historically are much lower for one candidate or another compared to the other nationwide polls. They do bring the average down. Makes you wonder how the lower ones are getting their info.

Otis   August 25th, 2008 9:13 am ET

I think what you have going on here is that everyone chided McCain for running those celebrity ads, but the fact is that it created an image that Obama is still fueling.

The Chosen One: Obama said "When I am President..."

Celeb: Selling out Invesco Field at Mile High like a rock band.....

Obama is being portrayed by McCain to America as "Hollywood Royalty" if you will.

And that, I believe, will not play well in the red states.

Why it may not play well in the blue states? Well, you see the comments about no Hillary means no vote.

Christian, Tampa FL   August 25th, 2008 9:13 am ET

Hillary Clinton supporters, please think about what you're doing when you threaten to vote for John McCain. Do you really want another four years of war, economic decline, a failed healthcare system, and a bad foreign policy?

The poll has to be wrong. How is it possible that the Republican party's favorable rating is up when the party is repsonsible for the near collapse of our economy. It is obvious there is a lot of bias in the poll.

If you remember, about 3 years ago, the economy was skyrocketing...

And then the democrats took control of congress...

Mad Moderate   August 25th, 2008 9:10 am ET

I think it's obvious to the people that the Democrats care more about pandering to the far left of the party then they do about the average person who is struggling to fill our gas tanks and worrying about how we will heat our homes this winter.
Since the Dems took control of Congress they have not kept one promise they made during the elections. The truth is Neither side has very many answers but McCain is the lesser of two evils.

pj4521   August 25th, 2008 9:10 am ET

Wow, these results, if accurate are rock solid proof that the american electorate is clueless. How any intelligent person could look at McCain's voting record and his embrace of all things W and still come away unconvinced that he would continue bush's policies is beyond help. I find it interesting that Georgia decided to be aggressive toward Russia at this point in time, in light of one of McCain's top campaign operatives being a highly paid lobbyist for Georgia. I also find it interesting that very little has been said in the MSM about the fact that Georgia did indeed start this confrontation. Instead they paint Russia as the big bad wolf.

It couldn't be because McCain needs to highlight his supposed national security credentials, could it?

That would suggest that the Repubs have manufactured this confrontation to give them an advantage. They would never do that.

Oh wait...Iraq....

American people are smart. They are starting to see Obama as just another politician rather than the cool, hip rock star celebrity he started out as.

In a political race at some point you have to become political and all the young voters who got on the celebrity bandwagon are cooling off as Obama matures into just another politician.

And after the American public watch Mrs. Obama speak tonight... I have a feeling the opinion of her will go down. Keeping her out of the spotlight has been good for the Dems.

ELIZABETH FOR OBAMA   August 25th, 2008 9:06 am ET

McCain people need to shut up about Hillary. They say McCain can choose who he wants but Barack shouldn't have.

Hillary lost. It's over. The Clinton's need to grow up.

Google: National Enquirer Hillary Clinton

Maybe this is why she wasn't chosen.

Barack will be the next President and one of the best President's we have ever had.

Sue   August 25th, 2008 9:05 am ET

If voters aren't sure whether or not John McCain would continue to follow in Bush's footsteps just look at the way his campaign is run and who he has around him advising. That will surely show everyone that he is just 4 MORE YEARS of GWBUSH.

We already knew that   August 25th, 2008 9:04 am ET

Americans as a whole do not take voting seriously. The fact that only around 60% of adult citizens in this country vote for the Presidency says it all. And out of that 60%, less than half do the research to pick the right person. Most just pick a partisan that they decided upon because they were raised that way, or because "I am [fill in the blank], I should vote for this person". Or, " I heard that this person is this, or that"... Pure silliness and really sad. With all that being said, it would not surprise me if we picked McCain this year. Bush showed us what happens when you have a mis-informed republican in office, yet we are going to do it again.

BROOKLYN   August 25th, 2008 9:02 am ET

Obama's biggest mistake to date was his running mate.

McCain now has our vote.

Christina P, Buffalo NY   August 25th, 2008 9:01 am ET

I am so convinced that the pollsters are a joke. There is no way that McSame/Bush/Cheney is tied with Obama/Biden!!! The mainstream media is falsely making this a tight contest and the proof will come out in the pudding!!! This is a blow-out election, but the only way the repugs will come out is if they think there's a chance. What a joke!!!

You market all of your polling figures to the brainless folk who blindly follow anything the republicans throw out there ... Well, the dems and the independents will demonstrate what the true polling figures are come election day!!! Historically in more ways than one!!! You can count on that! (pun intended)

Michael   August 25th, 2008 8:58 am ET

The Democrats are plummeting as people learn more about the Party's love affair with socialism. What a shock.

Gerald in Georgia   August 25th, 2008 8:56 am ET

What would you expect with all of the negative coverage that Obama gets. No one dares say anything against the "Great White Hope" John McCain. This is so typical of this country.

Lifelong democrat, no more.   August 25th, 2008 8:56 am ET

Dear Obama folks,

I keep seeing more posts by Obama supporters stating that if Obama loses in November, that they will make sure that Hillary loses in 2012. What the DNC needs to remember is that you lost our support not just for this election but for many years to come. We don't care if you don't vote for Hillary, that's no punishment to us. Most of us won't be voting for a democrat ever again. Our immediate satisfaction is Obama losing now.

Anonymous   August 25th, 2008 8:56 am ET

To little to late.

Charlene, CA   August 25th, 2008 8:56 am ET

Stop trying to fool everyone, CNN. You know the only reason Barack isn't more ahead of the polls is because he is a black man..sorry HALF black..but of course the racists in this country don't see it that way. They would rather endure another 4 to 8 years of Bush policies than have change for the better. Sure if it was a white man leadning the democratic party, he would be way in the lead..but no, apparantly it is a crime to be black...what a sad day it is in America.

Kshama   August 25th, 2008 8:54 am ET

Don't get too ahead of yourselves everyone. Remember New Hampshire Democratic Primary Results. Secondly, race may play a role in the next election. Hopefully not, but it is not someting you can poll.

Johnston   August 25th, 2008 8:54 am ET

. . . The greatest boost that the the democrats will get is when George W. Bush delivers his "keynote" address at the republican convention.

Obama / Biden.

Jerry   August 25th, 2008 8:54 am ET

Who take these polls because no one never ask me to take a poll the polls does not mean anything it will show on November 4, 2008
McCain you are a old dirty politician another Bush who does not care about USA.

Obama 08

Vet.   August 25th, 2008 8:51 am ET

Not one poll taken on a daily bases ever match and I can not find one person who has been polled and I know ALOT of people, so really, are these true # or just a special intest groups polling people that they know will lean the way they want the poll to come out.

Obama 08, he will win because he must or where doomed.

Spencer   August 25th, 2008 8:51 am ET

Who cares about Republicans. That whole party is out of touch with America just like our President and his buddy McCAin.

MT   August 25th, 2008 8:50 am ET

Enough with the freakin polls already!

Voter in SC...   August 25th, 2008 8:49 am ET

Dem polls will continue to drop - now that Obama ignored HILLARY – the most obvious choice for his VP. WHERE WAS HIS MIND?
He acted like the most egotistic person ever, thinking he could win without Hillary's supporters.
Now, she should switch to Republican and run for McCain's VP.
I'D VOTE FOR HER. Everyone listening???????!

Ron democrat turned independent   August 25th, 2008 8:49 am ET

after listening to Michelle Obama on the Rowland martin interview, i applaud her take on America. she and sen. Obama both having come from humble beginnings are living the American dream, and i think their example is sending a message to black America to shut the hell up and be accountable for themselves instead of blaming their shortcomings on white people

Ex-mod-GOP for Obama   August 25th, 2008 8:49 am ET

McCain is hardly the "maverick" he used to be - backtracking on taxes and other important issues. Unfortunately, he had to shore up his support with the Republican base, which, for the most part, still likes Bush and wants his policies continued. Count on more of the same from McCain if, heaven forbid, he's elected.

beevee   August 25th, 2008 8:49 am ET

The poll has to be wrong. How is it possible that the Republican party's favorable rating is up when the party is repsonsible for the near collapse of our economy. It is obvious there is a lot of bias in the poll.

New Independent Writing in Hillary on November Ballot   August 25th, 2008 8:49 am ET

What young people need to worry about the next few days is what is brewing in Denver.

I remember too well during the 1968 Democratic convention the bloodshed in the streets of Chicago over the Vietnam War. It was on that night that I learned to not trust "authority."

The City of Denver has its "Gitmo" designed specifically for the anti-war protesters for this week's Democratic convention. Today they announced they have heavy armor and police in riot gear all over Denver.

I would think, looking back to 1968 in Chicago, that it should be the police being put in the Denver Gitmo facility, not the protesters.......

Too bad CNN doesn't re-run some footage of that hot night in Chicago.

carlo   August 25th, 2008 8:48 am ET

That tie won't last long. The Obama team predicted that the race would get really tight around this time. They are not the inexperienced amateurs people believe them to be. Obama is a shrewd politician. I'm glad people are still underestimating him. Sure helped Hillary, didn't it?

Mike, TX   August 25th, 2008 8:48 am ET

Dear fellow Americans,

Contrary to what Obamabots and democrats are screaming, President Bush is NOT running for re-election. Saying "McSame, McBush, etc." doesn't make it so. That is the like saying that Obama will bring Rev. Wright's afro-centric focus into the White House (he won't , will he?).

Brenda of Saginaw ,Michigan   August 25th, 2008 8:48 am ET

I have a poll too. CNN -0- FOX News -0- .I loved CNN and stopped watching FOX but now I see they are really the same and sell the same product "LIES".

Bob, Denver   August 25th, 2008 8:48 am ET

The republicans did a hack job on this country for 8 years. The
solution is to rid the country of their systematic destruction. Its simple.
Vote them out. If you are not a part of the solution, you are obviously
a part of the problem.

Obama / Biden 08.

J. Sully, New York   August 25th, 2008 8:48 am ET

Please, for the love of God, VOTE DEMOCRATIC. This country is in a mess because of the republicans. McCain's policies are the SAME AS BUSH'S. Please vote Obama. Let's get out of this quagmire.

GO OBAMA!!!!

Marc, Toronto   August 25th, 2008 8:45 am ET

For the 100th time the polls are not accurate because they DO NOT account for all the Obama supporters that only use cell phones or live abroad.

Here is a real bulletin for you CNN.

I predict that Hillary Clinton will be named the presumptive Secretary of State by Barack Obama on Thursday. I also feel that this was her preference over being named VP.

Regarding the 18,000,000 that voted for Hillary there was many, maybe even a majority that would have been happy with Hillary or Barack. Time to move forward and get a Democrat into Washington to undo all the damage the Republicans have done. Time for Hillary's supporters to truly support her wishes and vote for Obama.
