Joe Biden departed from his home in Deleware with his wife Saturday.

DENVER (CNN) - A glimpse of Joe Biden - who has been back in the spotlight for less than one week. He found out he was being tapped for the ticket on Thursday. The rest of the country found out on Saturday. Now it’s Monday night. It’s amazing how fast these things happen.

And by the way, our polling shows, when he was named, even though he’s run for president twice, most Americans don’t know who he is.

Obama may have wanted to choose Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine — who has joined him on the trail in the new battleground state of Virginia - but the sudden emergence of the crisis in Georgia, which coincided with his dip in the polls, may have convinced him that he needed someone of foreign policy stature.

Just watched the evening convention. What a relief. no mud slinging! That makes it a home run.

Senator Biden was a bad choice for VP. He is a decent politician with a long track liberal record in the Senate, but he will not bring votes to the Obama camp.

I guess the Kennedys decided that he was the best choice for Senator Obama as running mate. I would have chosen Senator Clinton, or Virhginia Governor Kayne, in that order.

What Senator Obama needed was a more moderate politician and not someone with a short fuse.

Not if Senator McCain chooses a woman as running mate I think things will get more complex for Senator Obama's bid for the presidency.

Amen! Dave

Random thoughts...
...Sounds like this convention is all about, "Teddy."

....Mr Obama should have picked Michael Phelps for his VP – would have doubled his foreign policy experience

..."Unity" is about loving Hillary, hating Hillary

..."Hope" is about Hillary still thinking she's going to be President in 2012

Now THAT'S entertainment!

Elenadia from New york   August 25th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

I've known Joe Biden since his first term, and he has always been a fighter for the little guy, always in touch with his constituents – he goes back to Delaware every night after the senate finishes its work. He's not rich by any means, but he is the most decent hard working politician I've ever met. I am so glad that Barack picked him for VP! Could not have made a better choice!

gary   August 25th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

The article states: "And by the way, our polling shows, when he was named, even though he’s run for president twice, most Americans don’t know who he is."

You would have to be living in a hole not to know who Joe Biden is. Who did you ask? Kindergartners? How could you have any clue about anything political and not heard the name Joe Biden?!!

Jim   August 25th, 2008 11:04 pm ET

Joe Biden rocks! His personality, background, and expertise are a perfect complement to Obama's team. I especially like how Biden knows how to tear into McCain's shallow solutions, hypocrisy and ties to the Bush administration. Biden knows what he's talking about – he's served with McCain for years in the US Senate.

Biden would be the first Catholic Vice President in US history! He almost guarantees Obama will carry depressed industrial states like Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan.

Mike   August 25th, 2008 11:01 pm ET

McCain has 7 luxury homes he can't even track off. Mit Romeny has 6 mansions around the country.

If you are struggling to make a mortgage payment like my self, don't expect them to understand your pain.

Texas Witch Twister   August 25th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

JOE BIDEN? WHO THE HELL IS THIS???

IC   August 25th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

"Most Americans" don't know who Biden is, even though he has run for president twice? Their ignorance is shocking.....

Desari to Ed   August 25th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

Ed please don't say things you dont know. Biden's net worth is $150,000 and he is on record as the poorest member of the senate. He does not have a 100 million like John and cindy's Mcrethug.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   August 25th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

LET'S WIN THIS ONE FOR TEDDY.

Robert   August 25th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Biden is so out of touch, and has been in the senate since the early 70's. Barack is no new style politician like he claims...he is a liberal party hack.

Livonia, MI   August 25th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Watch Biden's speech he gave in Springfield on Saturday and you will understand some of why Joe is the right man for the job. Go Joe!

Ed   August 25th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

A week in the life of Billionair Joe Biden?

Will my comment ever be posted?!?!?!!!   August 25th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

SHAME ON YOU cnn!!!

barry c   August 25th, 2008 9:55 pm ET

boring,,, hillary would have been the winning ticket...guess Sen Obama likes doing things the hard way...

Scared   August 25th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

I'm scared that the democratic party just continues to make bad decisions, and McCain will win. I've been a democrat all my life. I just don't see, however, that a man with zero experience can win. It's very sad for us and the world. If I'm wrong, then I'll be very pleased with Obama as president.

David   August 25th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

I need some info on Biden's wife so I can put down on her like the Dems have put down on Cindy McCain.

Bobbi, Pasadena   August 25th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Does Biden have a trophy wife, too?

aware   August 25th, 2008 9:43 pm ET

Arrogance trumped integrity! How demeaning for Biden! :(

Betty   August 25th, 2008 9:28 pm ET

A lot of people were brain-washed by Bush/Cheney fake documents. Even Colin Powell. GET A LIFE – GET A BRAIN

Jerry   August 25th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

The choice of Biden is going to come back to bite Obama before November. Even if the plagiarism scandals, etc, turn out to be all forgiven (and nothing new rears its head, which remains to be seen), the fact remains: the self-styled "candidate of change" has picked one of Washington's most inside insiders for his VP. Once the convention is over and the reporters get the stars out of their eyes, how is this really going to play with the media and with Obama's supporters?

NotFallingInLine.org   August 25th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

Joe Biden has literally been in Washington longer than most of Obama’s base – his young fans – have been alive. By having chosen Biden as his running mate, Barack Obama threw away his chance to shape the future of the Democratic Party and the leadership of the United States for the next generation.

And didn’t Obama say over and over again during the primaries that his opposition to the invasion of Iraq in 2002 is proof that good judgment is more important than experience?

Well, in 2002, when Biden was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he stated that Saddam Hussein was “a long-term threat and a short-term threat to our national security.”

Then he voted for the war in Iraq.

Great choice. Right.

Betty   August 25th, 2008 9:21 pm ET

He's a welcome addition to the Barack Hussein Obama team !!!!!

For the first time since JFK, I'M REALLY EXCITED AND I'M PROUD OF MY COUNTRY FOR MOVING AWAY FROM WEALTHY WHITE OLD MEN CONTROLLING US INSTEAD OF THINKING ABOUT OUR OUR WELFARE.

Ann   August 25th, 2008 9:17 pm ET

The ticket to prosperity is Obama-Biden. It is time to build the economy back up. When Clinton was in office the DOW grew 221%. (3,242 on 1/20/93 when Clinton’s entered the White House and 10,588 when Clinton left on 1/19/01). When Bush Jr. entered office the DOW was at 10,588 and now it is at 11,300. Bush Jr. grew the DOW only 7% (1% per year or less interest than one would make at a bank). Clinton's administration grew 22 million new jobs. Bush Jr. 80% less. Bush Sr. did not do much better than his son. Bush Sr. only grew the DOW 38%.
