DENVER (CNN) —
Hillary Clinton's speech was a work-in-progress until the last minute, a Clinton aide tells CNN: speech-writers pulled an all-nighter and rushed it into the teleprompter. The video tribute to the New York senator was also a last-minute affair, and barely got done in time.

Tonight's speech was written by Lissa Muscatine, Jim Kennedy and chief speechwriter Jon Lovett, working closely with long-time Clinton advisors Maggie Williams and Cheryl Mills.

I am a Hillary supporter, and after he speech she truly has made me see why I need to support Obama. She's right, I didn't support her because of her, I supported her because of what she stood for and what she could mean as a leader. Obama is closest to her ideology and the issues she stands for. Although I contemplated it, I realize that supporting McCain would have been a move out of anger than out of logic.

FROMHILLARYTOMCCAIN.COM   August 26th, 2008 11:36 pm ET

Hillary, or McCain '08.

Obama decided to to represent us by selecting Biden over Hillary…so he lost half of the Democratic Party…

I am mobilizing Hillary supporters to this cause…

Obama punished us, now we punish him.

WHO is the young woman interviewed after the show was over?

SHE SPOKE FOR ME, TOO! EXACTLY! She doesn't know if she can vote for Obama.

I would love to hear what she said again.

The best speech and most gracious speech I have ever heard. To all the Clinton haters, bow down! Hillary is not done yet!

Clinton, no, wait, McCain Supporter   August 26th, 2008 11:35 pm ET

Hillary Clinton makes Obama look like a SCARED PUPPY. Scared to let her be his VP because her intellect and spirit DWARF his. Tried bullying her into quitting and then manipulated the Mich. And Fla. votes so she would lose - then had the gall to give them back when it's safe. Ugh.

Obama is such coward - so WEAK - has to get others to do his dirty work.

A repellant man. I can wait 4 years. I've waited this long. And never believe that this woman is going to go away. She told you she doesn't quit - and guess what? - she doesn't.

Tom in Delaware   August 26th, 2008 11:35 pm ET

Hillary forgot to mention the ketchup stain on her suit.

Hillary didn't take back the part about Barack not being fit to lead in her speech tonight,,,that's a big OOPS. The rest of her speech was very lackluster.

Hers is an impossible task because it's so difficult to meet the tremendous expectations that are placed by so many different people on her and her supporters.

Day 1 of the DNC saw McCain break into the lead in the Gallup Poll.
Day 2 will see that lead widen based on what I've seen tonight.

Bad days ahead for the Democratic Party.

Sandy   August 26th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

I see the McCain loving moderators are still working overtime.

william   August 26th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

ok… cnn closes the comments way to fast. They only post the Obama supporters comments because they also support him. Well Hillary you did what you needed to do. Now we will do what we need to do and that is not support Obama. My vote has not changed since you dropped out. My vote is for McCain and Ill be behind you in 2010 till 2012 when you become the first female president of this country. You will have a lot more hard work but we can Hang on till then.
lets see if cnn post this one

D in Indiana   August 26th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

Awesome Speech..to the writers of it. She did a wonderful job reading the teleprompters! Better than Obama does I thought anyway. This was what the headline of this article was about, or again, so I thought anyway. Which I don't understand why all the writers were pointed out and named in this tiny article..unless it was trying to make the case that it wasn't even her speech??…. You decide what this article's point was trying to make.

jgzeger   August 26th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

Hillary's speech did not make me want to vote for Obama but rather made me regret once again that she was not the candidate.

Mary Anne   August 26th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

NEVER! We will never give Obama our vote after the way he treated Hillary Clinton during the primary season. We did not vote for her just because we liked her and respected her ideas, but, we voted for her because we knew she emodied so many things that Obama lacked!

Scott Sanders   August 26th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

I have never been so proud of the Democratic convention speakers as I was tonight while watching Hillary Clinton. She is a woman to be held in the highest regard for her personal accomplishments and her unselfish giving to the Obama campaign. I will always respect her and look forward to seeing her run (successfully) in 2012. I don't think Michelle and Barack could ever have stood as tall as Hillary did onthat stage tonight were the position reversed.

By the way…why does CNN close down the comments so fast any time there seems to be an onslaught of support for Hillary during the convention. The comments were closed after 29 entries regarding Hillary's speech. Ridiculously biased!

Ann   August 26th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

For America to regain world recognition once more, there has to be change from the ground level up. Hillary's speach was a presidential address and 'am sure very hard for her, well delivered and poised…What Obama needed…cheers!

James   August 26th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

Hey, I voted for her too, but when Obama won my state, I got on board the Obama bandwagon. Lets put the country first people! We can't even afford one month of McCain!!!!!

OBA-DEN 08... all the way!!   August 26th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

I was so pleasantly surprised at Mrs. Clinton today. At first listening to the speech and watching Bill cry, I thought here she goes again taking the time to pat herself on the back once again… she actually delivered this time! I remember being disappointed when she ended her campaign and tried to get everyone behind Obama, it was so lackluster, but this time I really felt it. I was moved by her enthusiasm, seeming sincerity, and just the colloquialism of it. Thank you so much Mrs. Clinton!! The blood is off of your hands. If your "supporters" continue to go for McCain, let it be on them…

Sandy   August 26th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

If CNN quits stirring the pot, maybe her speech will mean something in the end. Otherwise, it was just hot air.

Hillary is Awesome!!   August 26th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

That was great speech!! I'm still voting for Mccain.

US Citizen   August 26th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

Lots of slogans and empty promises. Seriously, enough with the universal healthcare talk. The last thing we need is the government inefficiently managing another program in exchange for higher taxes. Once you go down that road, there's no going back, just like Social Security. I'm sure Obama didn't want to constantly get beat over the head with the healthcare issue.

MISSKITTY   August 26th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

THERE IS NO WAY WE WILL VOTE FOR OBAMA, WHEN I SEE HIM ON TV I GET A BAD BAD FEELING ABOUT HIM.PLUS HE IS A MUSLIUM AND CANT BE TRUSTED !! ALL I SEEN THROUGH ALL THIS IS THE OBAMA'S SAYING WHAT THEY KNOW PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR. HE GIVES ME A BAD BAD FEELING !! WAKE UP AMERICA IF HE BECOMES PRESIDENT HE'LL DESTROY OUR NATION!!!
YES HILLARY GAVE A GREAT SPEACH TO NIGHT BUT SHE SAID WHAT SHE HAD TO BECAUSE OF THE DEMOCRATE PARTY.I DONT BELIEVE SHE HAD MUCH OF A CHOICE . Rachel   August 26th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

She is tough, she delivered a GREAT speech tonight…..LET'S FACE IT….she's not the party's nominee, nothing will change that. If her and Bill can get behind Barack for the sake of the party her democratic supporters (if they were real democrats and supporters) should stand by her decision.

I never thought I would say this, but I think Hillary was wonderful tonight. She was energetic and eloquent. Thank you Hillary for being a strong and gracious person. This is my last post on CNN site…. I watched the PBS stations coverage of the convention tonight as I am tired of the CNNs constant efforts to stir up trouble with/for the Democrats. I will miss Cafferty, Amanpour, Cooper and Brazile….but the rest of you can take a hike….oh, and I'm guessing you won't print this….. but I just had to say goodbye….

Big mistake from Obama not choosing her as VP. This is what a leader should be a person with courage, experience and leadership .Some one that motivates the crowds. Someone that have their issues together. Not what the DNC has imposed on us !!!

No I will not vote for Obama, he is not the right candidate to lead us. After seeing Hillary tonight I will be betraying my country and my beliefs if I vote for him and help get an unqualified person to the White House!!!

LKM   August 26th, 2008 11:32 pm ET

Shame on you, CNN. That hall was FILLED to the brim with people cheering her on - clapping at her UNITY speech - and you go and find one of the few people there who is not supporting Obama. Your corporate colors are showing. I know, I know…you have to have SOMETHING to talk about to fill your hours on TV….and you have to find SOMETHING to be a "controversy". Get over it. There is no controversy in the Democratic party. Sure, there are a few dissenters, but for crying out loud. Lose your corporate slant to everything and get with the program. That convention is together…and enthusiastic. Interview one of the vast majority of delegates who are ready to go forward and work HARD for Obama.

PAW, CA   August 26th, 2008 11:31 pm ET

Excellent job. From the delivery, to the words, to the lines that will become part of the lexicon…..I wanted her for President, voted for her in the primary, but have accepted the fact that she came in 2nd….Obama ran a great campain and came in first…..if these two can hook up and work together, leaving pride and ego at the door, what great things they can do for this country. She is right on target when she says it must start now by electing Barack Obama the next President…..

ObamaSupporter   August 26th, 2008 11:31 pm ET

I am not sure why CNN gave that Hillary supporter so much time to talk about her commitment ot Hillary and her lack of support for Obama. Her postion does not represent the majority of those in her community. There should be some ballance by providing someone that was a convert after the Hillary speach.

Seeing this woman on CNN freak out about Clinton makes it clear that Hillary was the wrong person for President. The ONLY reason many of her supporters were voting for Clinton was because she was a woman. That is so stupid. I wonder how many will be going through PMS on election day. Maybe CNN should poll that number to decide who is going to win. Get a life people, Hillary is a lying , cheating, slug of a person. Has everyone forgotten the '90s?

That was an excellent speech. I'm a proud Barack Obama supporter, but if we had seen this out of Hillary a year ago, it would have been hard for anyone to beat her for the nomination.

I hope her supporters take her words to heart: were you in this just for her, or were you in it for the woman that had cancer and raising two autistic childrend, the young marine that needed health care, or the young boy whose mother worked for minimum wage and had her hours cut?

I'm in it for the average Joe that Barack and Hillary champion. I hope you are too.

Just because our candidate ran a poor campaign and lost is no reason to vote for a pro-war, anti-women's rights/health/equality, big oil yes man who doesn't understand the economy. Healing our country is more important than any one candidate, and Obama's 18 million votes count just as much as Hillary's do.

Andy in DR from CA & NY   August 26th, 2008 11:26 pm ET

I've been a Hillary critic, but she did EXACTLY what she needed to do as a Democrat first and to re-instate her legacy as one of hope and optimism for the future. Her strength of character shown through to her own best self - for the interests of the Party and the Country. A grand slam.

Hillary is the president I have been waiting for and this is why she should have been and still should be our nominee. I believe in her causes, I just don't believe in Obama. Hillary supporter for Obama   August 26th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

Like Hillary said, did you care about all those people she met or did you just care about her? Like she said, think of your children and your grandchildren when you vote. You want another 4 years of the last 8? HIllary cares that the country's going down the tubes and so should you. McCain's going to give us 4 more years of Bush, Obama's not. It's that simple.

Garth   August 26th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

Frankly, the speech did only what it was supposed to do, get everyone behind Barack Obama. I hear her saying she didn't get it, get over it and get behind the nominee Obama. If any Hillary supporter didn't hear that, listen again. If you still want to vote for McCain, you really are a Republican and there is little one can do about it since you have had your brain removed and replaced with the robotic ones they have.

She did good, but what I heard over and over. Get over it and get behind Barack Obama.

Anonymous   August 26th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

She said that she would vote for Obama, she said that Democrats should unite behind a candidate. I did not hear her use the words "You should vote for Obama" or an equivalent. Her delegates were not released, they were just told to unite. It was reluctant endorsement at best. Not nearly enough to sell her supporters on Obama. So disappointing.

I also noticed that Michelle only clapped when Obama's name was mentioned. The Obamas expect Hillary to do so much for them and yet they can't even bear to give her some respect.

I will never support the louse OBAMA not now or at anytime. But I will commend Hillary it took a very strong woman to do what she did tonight by praising OBAMA. She showed beyond any doubt she should be in the Oval Office and not some scumbag who won't be able to find the toilet.

And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is what you WON'T HAVE in the White House. That is the person the DNC rejected and manipulated out of her rightful place as the nominee of the Democratic Party for President of the United States.

I will never vote for Obama. NEVER. A vote for Obama is a vote for Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi and now Chicago-run DNC.

Tomorrow they'll have the fake vote - where they don't all the Hillary delegates vote because it would make The One look bad.

You can have them. I'll take McCain over that mugging any day.

what more   August 26th, 2008 11:13 pm ET

what more can Hillary do to help this guy get elected. She cant pull the lever for everyone. He has to step up and do the rest himself.

She is not his spokeperson and he is so fortunate she spoke on his behalf.

She is the one who should have received the nomination anyway.

Now its hail Mary time for Obama cause Hillary has done all she can do for him.

Wonderful Job Hillary
May God bless you. Such a sincere speach. Also waiting on Chealse to start her political career

Christy   August 26th, 2008 11:13 pm ET

She talked a lot about herself.
Her talk of unity was scattered but still about her.
Her comments of Barack were few and far between.
She is still the same sad, sorry, sore loser of a Clinton.
