Watch McCain's new 3 a.m. ad.

(CNN) –The 3 a.m. ad is back.

John McCain's campaign is reviving the most famous political commercial of the Democratic primary cycle, launching a new 30-second spot Tuesday that uses footage from Hillary Clinton's original ad and declares "Hillary's right."

Watch: McCain camp revives 3 a.m. ad

The ad, set to run in key battleground states and specifically in Denver this week, also goes a step further than the New York senator's original ad, explicitly detailing the national security threats America faces.

"Uncertainty. Dangerous aggression. Rogue nations. Radicalism," the ad's narrator states as images of tanks and launching missiles flash on screen.

The ad also includes Clinton's attack on Barack Obama in March 2008 in which she declared "I know Senator McCain has a lifetime of experience that he will bring to the White House. And, Senator Obama has a speech he gave in 2002."

The commercial is the fourth Republican ad in the last week to invoke Hillary Clinton's past criticisms of her party's presumptive presidential nominee, and comes the same night the New York senator is set to make a public urge for unity at the Democratic convention.

Speaking to New York Delegates in Denver Monday, Clinton said she did not support Republicans using her past words against Obama.

"I am Hillary Clinton and I do not approve that message," Clinton said Monday when asked about a McCain ad in which a Clinton backer says she will vote for the Arizona Republican.

Clinton's original 3 a.m. ad ran in Texas in the week ahead of that states critical primary is credited in part for her strong performance there. (She won the Texas primary, but lost its caucus.)

Yeah, regardless of experience, who is going to be the most coherent when woken up at 3 am? Not the 72 year old man. They'd be lucky if they could even wake him up in time to deal with a fast paced crisis that early in the morning.

Jenny Corvette   August 26th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

Since Republicans usually hate everything about Hillary Clinton, these ads are just spin, trying to butter up those still faithful to Hillary.
But Republicans are wasting their time trying to woo Hilary's supporters. A Democrat who'd vote for McCain over Obama simply on the Hillary issue is not a true Democrat at all. Democrats are not one issue people like some Republicans are. Any Dem with half a brain (which is half more than most Republicans) realizes that McCain is a 180 from Hillary.

I'm a Hillary supporter and now I'm both a Hillary supporter and an Obama supporter. These Republican ads aren't fooling me. It'd be like if the Dems dug up Bush's old ads against McCain in the 2000 primaries. Do you think Republicans would fall for that?

Sam   August 26th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

If either of the Clintons have any modcum of decency, they'd be very, very ashamed of themselves right now!

Imagine, you are a stalwart leading member of the Democratic Party but you are the featured star in the last four ads by the Republicans.

But then, the Clintons have no shame! None!

Sending text messages and going on vacation in Hawaii won't keep us safe here at home. We can thank John McCain for his quick response to the Georgia-Russia Crisis.

Aduobi   August 26th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

Hillary ran negative ads and lost the nomination or could not win it. This John McCain would want to have a go at anything that has failed including George Bush's policies.

Gerry   August 26th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

McCain fear mongering will not work this time. We are aware of his tricks and prepared to counter them. Good try, John, but the lawn needs mowing on one of your eight houses.

Gladys   August 26th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

I can't believe this republicans, they think putting fear in the American public will elect McCain to the white house. This is sure a dirty game and republians claim to care for the people? I feel very sorry for this country, a country blessed by God but dirty old and selfishness politicans are bringing this conuntry down. This is so sad........... The country is not the same and these fools are so happy in destroying it. But I have a message for you self destructing evil does. Man is man but God is God..... You keep destroying the other person because God has the final say. Also bear in mind that what you do today will affect all of us including all your children. The evil that men do live after them. God bless Obama because the more McSame and republicans attack him. The more God keep blessing him and lifting him up. People go back to the bible and see how God used orginal people with no experience in a might way. Bush and his company had experience, where is the country today? People be careful for what you ask for? Bush and McCain claim to be christians but they are worst than ever non believers.

These guys are the anti-christ be used by the devil. People look around and see all the signs just like the book of Revelations stated. The devil promote fear and that's what the republicans are doing to the America people. How sad.....

I need to use this space (no other space has been provided) to register my deep disappointment with CNN's coverage last night. I'm not sure how a network can criticize the Democrats for not staging effective television or not providing a message in its speeches when it did not even show the speeches themselves and instead talked right through them. This coverage is even more confounding given CNN's recent patting itself on the back for showing extended clips of speeches so that voters could make up their own minds on the candidates. Put aside how insulting it is to suggest we voters need to be told by the media that we can decide for ourselves, the convention coverage then went right ahead and framed the night as a wasted opportunity for Democrats without actually giving us the chance to decide for ourselves. Someone will have to explain to me how this is an example of the "best political team on television."

Dem   August 26th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

Lets face it. Hillary was right. He is inexperienced.
And if Hillary had won the nomination... McCain would be using Obama's words and commercials to his gain.

She has denounced the commercials. There's nothing any politician can do about it. This isn't the first time this has happened.
And it won't be the last. Wait until the RNC has their convention.
BHO will be doing the same thing. Putting out negative ads during it.

Will my comment ever be posted?!?!?!!!   August 26th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

How come CNN always streams EVERY Mccain ad. And we only get to read Obama's.

SHAME OF YOU CNN.

And btw, just like my ALL other posts, I am confident this one will not be posted too. LOSERS!!!

Tristan, Salt Lake City, Utah   August 26th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

It was a Democratic primary fight. If you can't stand the heat... You can blame Clinton but I would hope Obama knows how to fight this. This is nothing compared to what the President will face with China or Russia. You want Clinton Democrats to stop whining. Perhaps you should do the same about how unfair or damaging these ads were/are. Get over your high and mighty elitist selves.

J.D.   August 26th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Obama - or more likely, a 527 group - should run a 3 p.m. add about John McCain...in which John McCain is shown snoozing under a blanket on a rocking chair on the White House veranda taking his afternoon nap.

Be Afraid   August 26th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

How is it that McCain is running on the notion that he's going to bring a different administration in than what we've had the last 8 years, and before he's even in office he's preaching the same "be afraid – be very afraid" scare tactic/control message?

Nobody sees that? Or is everyone just looking for an excuse to rally behind imperialism?

Smart in Ohio   August 26th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Is it me, or does CNN replay McCain's campaign ads over and over again as "news"? I guess the more outrageous and controversial the campaign ad, the more likely CNN will replay it – thus resulting in free airtime for McCain. CNN is becoming more of a McCain mouthpiece than Fox "News".

Kyle in San Diego, CA   August 26th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

I'm glad others have noticed that when McCain comes out with an ad, CNN provides the actual video. But for Obama, it's just a still-shot. I swear, CNN, get it together! I've been a loyal CNN supporter, but I'm beginning to sense a lack of objectivity and fairness. I have no problem going elsewhere for my news...

Desmond Sequeira   August 26th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

The McCain crowd are way beyond pathetic, and SCARED!
At 3 am in the morning, McCain will most likely not even be able to figure out which house he is snoring asleep in and whether or not there's a phone somewhere.

If the USA chooses these kind of people to non-govern for a third time in a row, it will cut an even more sorry figure than it already does.

Ken   August 26th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

If a call comes at 3 AM if shoot-from-the-hip McCain is in the White House we have problems. This guy wanted to invade Iraq just after 9/11, way before the WMD lies were developed by Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld. How fast would he be to send in young men & women before using judgement and diplomacy to avoid conflict. Fast enough that we would need to reinstate the draft.

Ray   August 26th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

It's so dishonest because they don't tell you that US aggression has created so much of the "uncertainty" and "radicalism" that we now face. McCain's policies will serve to increase these problems, just as W's policies have. This ad would be funny if it didn't work on some weak-minded, fearful people. Hey, sheep, wake up, you're lined up to be fleeced again.

More cheap shots by the McCain campaign to sway the weak minded people. After eight (interesting?) years and a current economy that is horrific I wonder if McCain is ever going to talk about his ideas to fix this mess. He probably won't because he can't.
If I had a wife worth 100 million I wouldn't care much about the economy either! Instead you will hear more about Paris Hilton/Rev Wright/Rezko/Flag Pin/ anything but an important issue/etc...
It took 8 years but I learned my lesson,
Obama/Biden 08/12
and Hillary Clinton in the cabinet of course!

THOUGHT HILLARY WOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING BY NOW   August 26th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

Andt there are still "Hillary Supporters that STILL don't understand why she could NOT be VP! Hillary has done so very much to destroy this election for Obama words can not express just how repulsive she has become to the American people.

She and "her supporters" had better hope she fixes this in some way therewise she is through. McSame did not have a platform to stand on against Obama other than the one Hillary gave him! And the nerve of them even thinking she is owed ANYTHING than a slap in the face, well she ALL that she meant to hurt Obama is and will backfire in her face!

SHE HAD BETTER SAY SOMETHING MORE THAN "I SUPPORT OBAMA AND YOU SHOULD TOO!"

rob from York, PA   August 26th, 2008 12:11 pm ET

William Shakespeare once said "the evil that men (women) do, lives after them"
Lesson here – do no evil, say no evil, see no evil, hear no evil.

I hope this is a lesson not just for the Clinton's but for all of us – AMERICANS.

Karwolo   August 26th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Come on McCain, give us a reason to vote for you. And if Hillary Clinton is so great go ahead and name her as your VP. That way you are guaranteed to get the votes of her supporters. But you believe they are fools, so you only want the votes of her supporters and are not willing to support the issues Clinton stood for. If you are really serious, make Hillary your VP and I will volunteer for your campaign. I won't vote for you though.

Larry   August 26th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

This is the problem with partisan politics and why I will never belong to a political party. When Hillary made those comments about McCain and Obama she meant them. But now she is supposed to act nicey-nicey and pretend she supports Obama, "forthe good of the party".

What ever happened to "for the good of the country"!

Hey Obama campaign….

How about obtaining some or all of the scumbag Rove's ads from the Bush campaign from back in 2000 where he totally destroyed McCain in the primaries of that year?? And rerunning them or using them now for Obama in 2008??? Then add the final….McCain = Bush. Now that would be…….priceless.

Could someone in the know please forward my suggestion to the Obama people.....thanks !!!

Perry Clifton   August 26th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Hello;
No one should be pleased with that add!!! Yes, we all admire McCain for his military service. However, that Does Not equal to the office of President! Senator McCain will only repeat the Republican line. Further, his belief that the nation of Iraq should remain indefinately under our control is totally out of line!!!!!!!!!! Help them finalize that Mistake and get out of their country!! Eight years of that non-sense has been more that enough! Elect Senator Obama for positive change so that we can again be proud of our policies!!!!!!!

FACT – an American citizen has a better chance of being struck by lightning twice than being physically harmed by terrorism.

FACT – the #1 cause of bankruptcy among Americans is medical costs.

Which is the bigger threat?

So all of you republicans are right, American's do have something to fear......the same McBush politics.

Obama/Biden 2008!

greg in florida   August 26th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

sadly on september 11 2001 ,

a few thousand people lost their lives due to 19 terrorist.

7 years later, we are trillions of dollars in debt.

the mastermind behind the attacks is still walking the earth.

more americans have now been killed in combat in iraq than were killed on september 11.

republicans claim that national security, terrorists, rogue nations are what we should be afraid of.. the reason we must build up our military to protect americans...the reason why money is taken from our health care system, our education system, etc.etc.

so this is how i see things,, republicans ingore the needs of americans, insist on having the most powerful military on the planet to protect us. so over the past few years, this administation has ignored the people that they have gone to war to protect, people are dying because they cant afford health insurance, our dependence on crude oil, both foreign and american, has crippled our economy while a few people get richer and richer..our military has taken such a blow, it would seem unlikely that it could handle any real threat on american soil.. and yet in all this time.. tens of thousands of americans have been murdered on american soil, by americans. why are thier deaths not worthy of trillions of dollars..

so this is what i dont understand about republicans.. spend trillions of hard earned and much needed american dollars to go on a witch hunt because of 19 men who infiltrated our flawed local national security, while ignoring the needs of tens of millions of americans, all the while crippling our military... all the while americans are killing americans in our own country.. why .. why .. why is fighting arab terrorists more important than fighting american terrorists.

republicans use fear of the unknown to scare americans, when they should be dealing with american crisises right here in our own back yard... who knows.. maybe that guy who robbed that bank and killed those people could of had a job if only we had a stable economy, and maybe some americans lives, who are just as important as those that died on september 11th could have been saved.

so ultimately i just dont understand why anyone would want to continue down this obviously flawed path and vote for john mccain.. especially you PUMA people..(whom i dont believe to be true democrats or else they wouldnt even consider voting for mcsame .. not even on their deathbeds... they are polar opposites.. mccain and clinton.. you are aware of that.. and if you are .. then it is time for you to wipe those tears off your face, grow the flip up... and make sure the democratic party takes control of our goverment,, and again makes it a government for all the people of america, not haliburton, not oilmen, but all americans)

cnn never posts my stuff..

Just a random thought for those bloggers "outraged" by this ad campaign using Hillary Clinton's original "3AM" ad.

Was it fearmongering and poor political taste when she first ran it back in March?

A friend of mine went to New Orleans for Mardi Gras years ago with another individual that was an extreme alcoholic.

After an extreme night of drinking he walked into his friend's hotel room only to find the maid cleaning up vomit from the bathroom floor.

Dismayed, he asked the maid if she ever was disgusted by the behavior of such revelers. The reply was......"oh, honey that is just Nawlins"

And honey, what McCain is doing with Hillary's ad....."is just politics"

Ah – surprise, using the fear bomb. shame on mccain and his lame campaign. Anyone that isn't angry about the ridiculousness of this ads and the lack of seriousness on the issues, just isn't paying attention. McCain is insulting your intelligence with this kind of hooey – and is remaining silent on the issues. What's important to you – jr. high smear tactics, or an adult approach to the issues? they're playing the public like brain dead morons – referencing his pow stint for everything from a hangnail to his house gaffe. There's not much behind the screen – these tactics try to hide the real mccain, but his ineptitudes are lurking wherever you choose to look.

Furthermore, replaying a candidate's TV spot and 'commenting' on it does NOT constitute journalism, CNN. It's extraordinarily lazy. The American voter deserves and demands better.

Many people complain that CNN is biased, favoring Republicans. I thought the other way around. The overwhelming majority of comments in here are from liberals and democrats. Many comments from republicans are either blocked out or maybe they're busy working to type up the comments. We need balance here. Both Senate and House are already controlled by Democrats and Liberals right now.

Please wake up American...we need a change.

Obama/Biden 2008!

Doug R.   August 26th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

These folks that blindly support (like little sheep) John McCain are ignorant and clueless and out of touch with the real world, like McCain himself is. He has no platform, visions, or ideas for this country. We would not be any safer under a McCain presidency. He's a fraud.

Chi4Obama   August 26th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

BUSH = MCCAIN; MCCAIN = BUSH.

That's a mathmatical certainty 95% of the time.

OBAMA/ Biden 08....

Mary, Dallas   August 26th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

If McCain wins it will have nothing to do with his qualifications but the politics of fear and hatred. John McCain has run his entire campaign blasting Obama. The reason he is doing this is because he has no vision for this country but the same old thing,

It's not like Obama couldn't take comments from republicians and use them in commercials against McCain but that is not his style. I just hope that he isn't giving the American people to much credit. It seems that people like the negative ads inspite of the fact that they deny it.

Wake up America! George played this same game. We must learn from history or we are doomed to repeat it. I don't know about you but I can't afford 4 more years of the same. My pay check cannot keep up with inflation. I am not in the top income bracket, so I can't get all those tax breaks. I watched McCain at one of his townhall meetings and all I could think was surely the American people are not this dumb. If anybody other than John McCain had offered his wife to a motorcycle beauty pageant, the press would have ate them up. John was a POW so he is not responsible for his action. John can't remember how many houses he has but don't critize him because he was a POW. McCain can't remember what he says from day to day but remember he was a POW.

When you put him in the white house and he has flash backs and we end up in another war, who will be to blame? Not John McCain, he was a POW but the American people.

Chi4Obama   August 26th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

Correct me if I'm wrong,
But wasn't it John McCain who said that he would NOT go negative during the General Election. So much for that rationale huh?

It seems as if all they ever show is why we should not vote for Obama; as opposed to why we should vote for McCain. These political games are getting old fast.
As a young first time voter, I care about issues such as :
1) Ending a pointless war
2) Fixing the economy (lowering taxes)
3) Universal Healthcare
4) Colleget Tuition credits, etc.

As Obama says, let's end the "silly season" in Politics and focus on the real issues.

Forget 3 in the morning. McCain doesn't work weekends. Being the president is a 24/7 job.

unity   August 26th, 2008 11:59 am ET

McCain has cashed in every molecule of celebrity that can be redeemed from his POW experience. He's been writing 'bad checks' with war stories and buzzwords for decades now. It's kind of a form of identity theft at this point, because now he's not that brave soldier fighting for truth. He's a greedy and embittered elderly man that fights to remember the truth on a daily basis.

Lou   August 26th, 2008 11:58 am ET

See, the Republicans haven't changed. McBush says he is for change but again, their only tactic is "Scare the Heck out of em"! That's not policy, but B.S We have to get out of this Bush mess and Obama is the way!

lol election   August 26th, 2008 11:58 am ET

If Hillary used the 3am ad against obama and lost

how come McCain is recycling the same old thing?

Good thing about Clinton is she threw everything including the kitchen sink at obama and lost, now McCain is recycling the same Clinton attacks.

Obama has this election in his pocket, mccain offers nothing new except same recycled bull.

Get a Grip   August 26th, 2008 11:58 am ET

John McCain appear to be a war monger....I use to think this guy may make a good President....now with this ad and all the other Right wing Republican trash, I do not look up to him as someone that I want as President. He is a yes man just like Bush!!! No mind of his own!!!

Billy J -Austin-Tx   August 26th, 2008 11:58 am ET

That ad was one of many blunders that Hillary's attrocious campaign staff made to help lose the primary to O. (and I still preferred her) Why in the world does McCains group think it will convert anyone who is a democrat into voting for the representative of the republican platform. It is not about whether I think Obama is ready (not as ready as others that ran) or genuine (more genuine than some, less than others) but whether I think the basic premise of the Democratic platform is better or worse than the Republicans. I can't explain how utterly disappointed I am in the current Dem leadership but, I am not a fool. I may be a tool.. to those Dems at the top that use me, but not a fool to be completely ripped off morally and economically by the Republicans.

More populists that don't cheat on their wives please ( I hate the liberal effete that have taken my party at the moment) But! In the meantime, I will be pulling the lever for Obama (or Nader if I think there is no chance of O winning my state)

ledel   August 26th, 2008 11:58 am ET

So, let's ask these questions about McCain: Is he too old to be commander in chief of the most powerful country on earth ? Can he keep up with rapidly changing events in the 21st century ? Can he control his temper under stress? These are the serious questions we all must have about McCain. If we have doubts, then we are tossing the dice on our national security !

Spencer from VA   August 26th, 2008 11:57 am ET

Precisely the reason why Hillary is not the VP.

"I BELIEVE"   August 26th, 2008 11:57 am ET

The republicans are so sad and pitiful, you can smell the desperation.

THERE IS NO HOPE FOR THEM!

ben   August 26th, 2008 11:57 am ET

All you bloggers out there, you have nothing to fear. McCain sent his wife to Geogia. That will solve all our international problems.I didn't know she was already the first lady. What I don't understand is that even if she were first lady, what business does a first lady have to do with national policy?
McCain didn't go to Georgia. Is it because he knows so little about diplomacy,he might start a war before he even gets to be president?

Robert in Seattle   August 26th, 2008 11:57 am ET

It's 3 am, how many more negative attacks can McCain, who claimed he would no go negative produce?

Morningstar   August 26th, 2008 11:57 am ET

I hate Hillary Clinton with her " If not me, than no one else" politics. Imagine just how foolish it would have been to have her as VP!

Rick FL   August 26th, 2008 11:57 am ET

After the last eight years, I do not trust a Republican administration with our national security, including McCain's misguided judgements. He uses the same ole fearmongering. Not this time.

GM from MN   August 26th, 2008 11:56 am ET

Keep up the fear mongering McCain.

LOL!!! THIS WILL BACKFIRE!!!

What an idot....LOL....Hillary got so much grief for this.....you'd think people would pay attention.

Carlos   August 26th, 2008 11:56 am ET

Why doesn't McCain tap Hillary for his VEEP. She hates Barrack enough to consider it...and since Bill is a "democratic has been" this might give him a chance to start over again with the GOP.

Susan   August 26th, 2008 11:55 am ET

And McCains nickname in the POW camp was SONGBIRD! How patriotic of him!

Lauren   August 26th, 2008 11:55 am ET

"Why of course people don't want war. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a fascist dictatorship, democracy, pr a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do it tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."
–Hermann Goering, to Gustav Gilbert while imprisoned in Nuremberg

Gary of El Centro, Ca   August 26th, 2008 11:55 am ET

There's the signal that fear will be the number one issue from the Republican perspective. Get ready for "elevated" terror alerts in September and October. They have ridden this horse before with success, but that horse is old and tired now and I don't expect it will take them as far this time.

Oma   August 26th, 2008 11:55 am ET

How much does experience really count? Does it always trump common sense and new ideals? Believe me, I am very old, and therefore have lot's of "experience", but........

McCaint   August 26th, 2008 11:55 am ET

BR-No one has forgotten 9-11, and your statement that "some" Dems supported the attack is offensive and ignorant. In fact, a case could be made that it was the the Republicans that used the attack to pursue their agenda of going into Iraq (who by the way, had nothing to do with 9-11) and subverting our constitutional rights in the name of security. If we continue to allow our freedoms to be taken away in the name of fear and security, then the terrorists have accomplished their goals. Get a clue

Robert in Seattle   August 26th, 2008 11:55 am ET

Anonymous   August 26th, 2008 11:54 am ET

Obama supporters whine about Rep. fear tactics. Well guess what? The world IS a dangerous place. We aren't going to keep the country safe by holding hands and singing kumbaya. Obama's waffling response to Russia's invasion of Georgia shows he's NOT READY. Russian tanks roll into Georgia and Obama calls both sides to show restraint. That's like telling the sailors on the USS Arizona to 'show restraint' as Japanese bombs rained down.

Tired of W, OH   August 26th, 2008 11:54 am ET

Can you imagine what would have happen decades ago if the republicans were the nasty, ruthless party that they are today?

"Yeah, and that Martin Luther King, Jr. guy is all speech and no substance. All he does is talk, talk, talk. He's such a celebrity..."

Remember this. A funny thing happens when you have a smart, charismatic leader that truly believes in something. People start to listen. People are inspired to act. Only then does change happen.

Who has McCain ever inspired? Anyone?

Earl   August 26th, 2008 11:54 am ET

Unfortunately this ad is was well done. Call it fear tactics if you want, but McCain is showing Obama's weakness. Obama needs show McCain's weaknesses now.

When McComb-over picks Romney for his VP, the Democrats better have an ad ready to air showing Romney blasting McCain over and over again.

Nene, Nigeria.   August 26th, 2008 11:53 am ET

I wonder what the Americans require from Obama. They seem never to see anything good in what he does. They said he is not good in foreign relations; he took a tour and dazzled the world with his brilliant performance. They say he lacks experience and good judgement;he picked a man with vast experience in f/affairs,and Justice affairs. as VP to complement his Presidency bid. Yet the majority of American voters do not see any good in that. I am not an American but Iam keenly interested in what is going on about this election because I Neunderstand that a good governance in America will affect the rest of the world in various ways. So my prayer to God is to let the best candidate win. It is left to you Americans to be wise in your actions so that you do not bring desaster on yourselves and the world. Do not be blinded by malicious ads by those who just want to win election.

josie   August 26th, 2008 11:52 am ET

I am sick and tired of McCain's answer to everything being " I was a POW". I for one will not vote for someone who cannot remember how many houses he has or what type of car he drives. Those were simple questions that he could not answer . And he's running for PRESIDENT ! How can we hand over our country to someone who can't remember where he is. Oh, thats right, he's only having a senior moment. He's 72 after all.

Jason, Los Angeles   August 26th, 2008 11:52 am ET

Kshama   August 26th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Well, the truth hurts doesn't it. Some people just can't over the fact that past the "idealistic" talk, there is a serious lack of experience and accomplishment regarding Senator Obama. This is not to discredit his service as a community organizer, but I'd like to see what other viewers thoughts are about what they think the qualification ought to be for the Presidency. On a more realistic note, there are many people who are jobless and one of the things told to them in a job interview is that they don't have enough experience for the position they seek. If in the "real" world this is what Americans face, why shouldn't the same hold true for the "highest" office in this land!!!!!!!! Take a look at the heavyweights in the Democratic party during their own primaries(Dodd, Biden, Clinton, Richardson). Every single one, including Joe Biden said that the Presidency cannot lend itself to on the job training and he wouldn't meet with hostile nations without any preconditions-his answer to this was an unequivocal no. This is a good man with over 30 years experience in foreign policy. He's right!!!!

Obama here is your new campaign slogan:

"EIGHT IS ENOUGH"!!!!!!!!

If George Bush ran for a third term would you vote for him? Hell No!

But he is running again, he is only older and has a different face? He is John McCain!

Rena   August 26th, 2008 11:50 am ET

BR -

We have not forgotten we remember very well. But we are not fighting a war to protect our freedom we are fighting a war for Bush and his friends to get rich off of oil. If you think this war is just then let me see you go over there and put your life on the line or better yet your sons or daughters if you have any. All you Repubs going for McCain but McCain has nothing to lose. Our soldiers are dying for an injust war and our families are suffering at the hands of men like McCain and Bush.

I don't care what you say, Democrate or Republican, I want someone who can understanding the millions of people who are suffering with high gas prices and mortagages that are going through the roof; let alone the millions of jobs that are lost and families are struggling to make ends meet. Healthcare is ridiculous and is the biggest joke. You have young people who are vital and capable of working but rather cheat the system or spread their legs and make babies to keep from working to get welfare, while our senior citizens and disabled workers can't get anything due to them working for a living all their life to find out they can't get anything in return because our Federal government says their SS pay is to high; how SICK!!! But yet this is the system we pay into for this very purpose; but who gets it the low lifes and crooks.

Preach this foolishness to someone who wants to hear like yourself.

Tony in Mocksville, NC   August 26th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Hillary's adds were on target then and still are. But remember, the current President was not necessarily the best man around to handle 9/11. Afterall, as we were under attack, he was frozen with indecision during an educaltional promo event for his "No child left behind" program. McCain or Al Gore would have been the better men to handle that situation as well but the Republicans chose the other guy for his evangelical roots rather than foreign affairs capability the year before. LIkewise, when it came time to address the terorist threat militarily, Bush chose to do a quick fix for Afganistan so he could get down to the business of invading Iraq. Now look where we are. The Taliban is regaining control, Al Quada is still around, Osama is still at large, and terrorists attack at will in Iraq...going on seven years now.

ShneiderDaMan   August 26th, 2008 11:50 am ET

This ad raised a legitimate question. How would a president Obama react in a time of crisis? We saw how slowly he started to criticized Russia over Georgia. He initially wanted an aggressive diplomacy when the Russian tanks already rolling all over the country. I do not have confidence in Obama.

Rosa Birmingham, AL   August 26th, 2008 11:50 am ET

What makes people think McCain would be better at a 3am call. He has hot temper and would likely over react to any sitiuation. On top of that he has no understanding of foreign policy details. He doesn't know hte difference between Shiite and Sunni or that Iraq is run by Shiites and that Al Queda is a Sunni organization. These details are important for any response. He doesn't evn know what countries exist in Europe. I'm suprised he knew where Georgia was when Russia attacked, Oh and what happened there, we did nothing. McCain will almost certainly start WWIII. Make sure all your sons and daughters are ready for the draft.

4 NO ONE   August 26th, 2008 11:50 am ET

The media will choose the next president. The people would just watch. They want a close race to benefit thier cause. First it's Obama this and that and now it's Mc Cain this and that. Blow out election don't make money but trying to fix the outcome with favorable and unflavorable coverage to make a race close does. When the people are smart enough not to respond and the outcome are totally the opposite of what the media hope to accomplished, they blame on polling error. Come on, please!!!!!!!!!! CNN, NBC, Fox 4 President 08.

phil, philly   August 26th, 2008 11:50 am ET

Hey CNN – in case you haven't noticed, the Democratic National Convention is going on. I know, I know, that isn't what McCain wants you to talk about, but at least try to be journalists for once. Please. Pretty please? Come on, be professional. You can do it.

I like how liberals accuse conservatives of using fear tactics and trying to scare people then say the whole planet will melt if you don't vote for a democrat.

DW from Ohio   August 26th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Two things:

1) Just because McCain is now using this ad, does not make it untrue

2) Hillary probably sold the ad to McCain to pay back some of her campaign debts.

Regardless of who you vote for, Hillary gave a littany of information to the GOP to use against Obama. Republicans, please, thank Hillary for all her support.

Jim Boston   August 26th, 2008 11:48 am ET

I think that this is a good move by McCain. Although I am not a fan of scare tactics, how better to prove that your candidate is not worthy of the presidency than putting forth the words of its own party members. It is unfortuante that Hillary ran the type of campaign she did because now it seems difficult that everyone is going to magically "unite". Biden is a great guy, don't get me wrong, but that is all he is. Growing up in the Philadelphia area I am very familiar with Mr. Biden. He seems to be a parrot character, regurgitating whtever he thinks the people want to hear regardless of his own point of view. As a man, Biden is great, as a politician he seems to flip flip more than Kerry....

We can choose to be a part of the problem or take it upon ourselves to be a stabilzing, intelligent force and be a part of new solutions.

McCain and the likes are like fish trapped in a tide pool. They need help getting out, and the only way I can see to help is to not cultivate like-minded energy and allow myself to be manipulated by distorted definitions of patriotism and new-found fears.

We are a fear-oriented society. All it does is narrow our scope for potential for change and diminshes our intellectual and spiritual abilities.

What will we as a nation choose? One that attacks his opponents position while saying in essence "vote for me because I am not him", or one that has the visiion and strength of character to advance his agenda, an agenda that is very hard to argue with?

45 years ago Thursday the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., had a dream where his "four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character"

Whose character will we choose? Fear, or hope?

I'm personally glad Clinton isn't the nominee because that would make the race very close if not impossible for McCain to win. However, with Obama running there's no need to worry.

What my argument has been all along. Obama's lack of experience and fluffy magical promise change talk against realities of what's going on in the world. I would have voted for Hillary in a heartbeat. I would have voted for Hillary is she VP. Since neither is the case I will now vote for McCain. I don't trust Obama in protecting our country with his naive mentality about so many thing. The guy won't even admit the surge in Iraq worked! Hell, I didn't think it would work either, but in REALITY it did. Obama doesn't want to admit this so instead he keeps talking about getting out of Iraq and not giving credit where credit is due. NOBAMA!

I hope he takes Romney so we can start rerunning all those choice quotes from Mitt about what a bad choice McCain would be.

The Republicans continue their politics of fear.

And for all of the PUMA's, if he loses, there will be no Hillary in 2012 or ever since we will never vote for her, nor will of the 16-17 year olds who support Obama and will be eligible to vote in 2012 and exact revenge.

Hey CNN – Can you please let Obama have his moment without injecting McCain into it? The fact that you take every opportunity to "put Obama in his place" and pretend it's Clinton or the McCain camp doing it makes me ill! Who cares about this stupid commercial! If you had any objectivity at all you would not propel Clinton and McCain into Obama's spotlight every chance you get. Clinton already had her moment and McCain will have his next week.

Tony   August 26th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Bush, McCain are one in the same and people had better wake the hell up!

Bush used National Security as an excuse to keep everything among a tiny group of people to exclude those with expertise and dissenteres. A lot happened after 9/11 and one thing people don't understand or realize is that we became a torture copuntry.

Nothing will change under McCain, and for those Democrats who can't deal with the reality that Hillary lost, who say they will vote for McCain or not at all had better wake up and grow up, or SHUT UP for the next four years.

D Va.   August 26th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Unfortunately this ad only emphasizes the fact that the Republicans and McCain have to resort to re-runs......swift-boating, and fear tactics...does this not prove we are in for four more years of Bush re-runs. P.O.W! Yes we know, this is also repeated again and again and what does that have to do with how many houses he owns..(LENO). Just how much safer are we now after the surge? We are still there, but wait, now the Bush administration is talking "timetable" for withdrawal. They do copy a lot--wasn't the timetable introduced by a Democrat? Senator McCain, have you not forgotten Bush's remarks during your 2004 campaign? Had the campaign run much longer in 2004, Bush may have had his Rovie's digging deeper for dirt, just as you are now.

Typical Fear AD   August 26th, 2008 11:42 am ET

Ok, so here we go again.. Pretty much the same scare tactics that scared voters into electing Bush into another term seems to be the same strategy of John McCain. As once said.. A dumb man irresponsibly gets himself into a conflict. A smart man plans his way out of it, but a wise man avoids it by thinking.

I hope that we all think in the coming months about who might be the best "thinker" when faced with these situations..

Democrats talk about peace and hope and a ray of sunshine on your face...

Republicans talk about all the evil in the world that must be stopped to secure our future...

What do you want? A ray of sunshine or security?

"Uncertainty. Dangerous aggression. Rogue nations. Radicalism," the ad's narrator states as images of tanks and launching missiles flash on screen."

But that IS the precise definition of McCain!

What a doofus.

A-Man   August 26th, 2008 11:40 am ET

Obama's ads are about how he wants to make America better. McCain's ads are just attack and fear ads. Same way Bush and if he wins McCain look to run the country. Only a stupid person would vote for McCain, primarily because he is just like Bush, but also the gov't will not function under a Republican as the house and senate will be dominated by democrates. Hence if you wish for the best for the country he need to vote Democrate in this election. BIG PROBLEM IS THAT MUCH LIKE CHAVEZ WINNING BY USING THE IGNORANT PEOPLE THAT DOMINATE VENEZUELA, THE MAJORITY IN THE US ARE JUST AS IGNORANT.

Andrew   August 26th, 2008 11:40 am ET

McCain has experience at getting shot down.

Unshrub   August 26th, 2008 11:40 am ET

As much time as McCain takes off from work and the amount of sleep he needs every day there can only be a situation between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. But I am sure he will leave standing orders to shoot and wait until he wakes up or gets back from the weekend. The secret service won't even know where he is at because Cindy may take him to one of their homes he forgot about. Can one imagine how much it will cost the secret service to make each one of his 11 homes safe for a president. That alone will break our budget.

marcelo   August 26th, 2008 11:40 am ET

The CNN of today is a disgrace to the well respected and informative CNN of the last decade. They have sold the American public out for spin and profits. They are all too willing to perrot all the talking points from both campaigns but won't do the work to tell us the truth.

As far as I'm concerned, CNN and the other "news" networks are just as responsible for us getting into the Iraq war as Bush and the republican party are. Instead of reporting facts, they past along false evidence to the public that was used to justify the Iraq War.

HH   August 26th, 2008 11:37 am ET

I for one am sick of the premise that Obama's speech was nothing more than that. Has anyone actually read it in its entirety? It shows more substance and judgement about not just Iraq, but also an incredible and uncanny foresight about our economy and housing and our need to address terrorism than McCain has ever demonstrated in his run for office. Yes, he has a speech. And that is one of the reasons I'm voting for Obama. Read it and then complain about "just a speech."

I hope that in four years, the Democrats have learned that you don't go dissing your fellow candidates while campaigning for office – the Republicans will use your words to their advantage later. It's too bad that Clinton was the first to go negative – now it's coming back to haunt the Democrats.

Malene Dixon   August 26th, 2008 11:35 am ET

I don't understand why the Democrats get a bad wrap for not being "negative enough." The worst thing about politics is the negativity, yet the media continues to encourage grown-ups to talk badly about each other and focus on negativity. Is this the message that we want to teach our children, that the only way to win is to be negative? When will it be acceptable to run a campaign without focusing on negativity? When the media stop focusing on negativity? Does the ability to make money outweigh the common good? Unfortunately, it appears that it does.

Marv...   August 26th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Fear tactics work. They got bush elected for the second term. Fear of wars that we start, fear of people who worship differently than we do, fear of gays, fear of women who get abortions and fear of the American People becoming united.

Fear tactics work. Just look at the condition of our Country and its people now. Fear tactics have worked very well.

I'm a Christian, but I'm not an Evangelical conservative. Evangelicals have preached that it is sin and disobedient that has caused this country to fall. I believe that also, but I also believe that a good part of that sin is within the churches who have made a habit out of supporting a particular political party in order to force their beliefs upon the rest of the country. Jesus never said follow me or I'll punch you in the eye. He touched the hearts and minds of individuals and established a personal relationship with them. Jesus never needed the laws of mankind to make people love him.

So Evangelical Christians, where do we go from here? Continue with fear tactics of the Republican party, who really don't support your causes and only give you lip services, or roll up your sleeves and do God's work by touching people the way God touched you and not by threats and forcing them to be obedient.

There's no need for fear, but it has worked.

sandy   August 26th, 2008 11:33 am ET

When she said these words, she thought she was going to win the nomination. Thought it was a sure thing, after all she's a Clinton, but now it's coming back to haunt her and the Democratic party. The repubs have every right to use the words of Clinton and Biden. Here is why.

With the exception of Romney, all the other republican candidates had the smarts enough not to say damaging things against McCain during the primaries. They knew that in some fashion their excoriating words would later bite them (and the party) in the butt. Apparently the dems weren't so smart. The democrats will lose the election this fall, and they will have no one but themselves to thank.

First of all I take exception to the headline that veterans take aim at Obama in ad. For the record, it a group calling themselves veterans. This add is crap, Let's just look at the facts. Forget the surge because we had to do it to save face. The more important fact is that the war was wrong from the start. We were lied to and John McCain should admit that the war was wrong. And any veterans that support McCain are idiots. You have to be because you are supporting a person that sent my brothers and sisters into harms way on a lie. Then he refused to give them proper benefits while in the service because he thinks they were too generous. Get real!!! Bottom line is that he has not voted on any legislation to help veterans. In fact he received a F for his support of veterans and Obama got a B.

I am feeling a little disheartened by one aspect of this campaign, and it is the lack of imagination in responding to Republican attach ads. It brings back memories of the Kerry campaign.

1. I am increasingly convinced American elections are not about who offers the best and brightest policy decisions. The media plays a pivotal role in voters' decisions.

2. Case in point: the Republicans have just recycled Clinton's "3a.m." attack ad, and I was appalled by the Obama campaign's lack of imagination, and lack of response, then and now. It will have the effect of the "Swift Boat" attacks in 2004. Perhaps I'm naive but it seems obvious to me that the Obama campaign respond to that ad by having McCain pick up that 3a.m. call, and commit our troops to Iraq for the initial invasion. Then the ad reminds folks that that decision by McCain wasn't made in the dead of night but in the light of day. Just imagine how he'd respond to a call at 3am.

But the ad will go unanswered and as stupid as the ad might seem to us, it is an effective tool. And it will be one of many. It's one thing not to get down in the mud with the McCain campaign, but it's another to allow such ads to go unanswered.

If you agree with me on this point, PLEASE circulate this e-mail to others actively engaged in the Obama campaign.

John McCain's campaign is looking more and more ridiculous, disorganized and desperate daily. Why won't he spend his money actually articulating a plan for the country rather than pandering to disaffected Clintonites, and jumping on every opportunity to further diminish the standing of American Politics. A campaign of fear, will ultimately not sell with the American public.

TimW   August 26th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Hillary has made it clear that anything she says has nothing to do with what she's said in the past. Each day is a new day and she wants history wiped clear of her reality (unless it benefits her).

Why should this be any different.

Did someone remind CNN that this ad didn't work for Hillary? I know it's McCain's ad, but CNN is obviously intimately involved with McCain, just like Cindy, when McCain was still married to Carol.

typical republican fear tactic, the old war monger will not be able to deal with to do anything with the treat out there, he wants to stay in Iqaq for 100 years a county that is not treat to our nation instead of fighting the radicals in Afganistan, Obama knows where the treat is and how to handle it with Obama/Biden ticket America has nothing to fear from but feat itself ,the right wing and Bush/Mccain.

At least it is not hear say… Clinton said things about Barrack, like it or not… the only common ground I see her and Barrack belong to the same party and that seems to be the only interest of the two. Her hopeful thinking on her part she might get chosen for VP.. that was shot down…now what??? She has a career to protect and a possible future white house career at that, all she is stuck with is so call "OH lets unite the party". I am happy to see ads that are not opinions or hear say… I say show it for what it is..Let the facts speak! Go McCain GO!!!

JD, St. Louis, MO   August 26th, 2008 11:22 am ET

How are these scare tactics? McCain is pointing out the realities of the world we live in. I guess most of you would rather be the ostrich and ignore everything going on around us. And how is this ad "swift boating" Obama? Using the words of common opponents against the other party has been around for years and years. Hillary spoke the words when she wanted to make Obama look young and inexperienced. There's absolutely no reason why McCain should not do the same thing. Who cares if Hillary approves? Her words are just as correct today as they were when SHE hoped to benefit by them.

Rudy NYC   August 26th, 2008 11:21 am ET

This why Clinton was not considered for VP.

She did this to herself. A lack of vision. No Plan B. That's why she lost the primaries. That's why she would make a poor choice as POTUS. Not looking at situations from all perspectives, just the rosy one she wants to paint for herself.

How entertaining – every time I think about using this news service for information, I come across commentaries like these – reaffirming what I already know.

Well just be advised that the democrats can't buy the election and the people – true Americans – are seeing the light. Next, we'll take on the Republicans and get them back in line too.

Robert Resch   August 26th, 2008 11:18 am ET

I seem to remember anti (and unfair) McCain ads endorsed by George W Bush handlers during the Republican primaries in 2000. I would hate to see those old ads recycled and run again. Strangely, the Bush handlers responsible for that negative campaign against McCain are the same handlers (or at least their former trainees) currently working for McCain.

I wish all would stick to the important issues and scrap the petty nonsense.

Cynthia   August 26th, 2008 11:18 am ET

What is Senator McCain trying to hide. All he seems to know is attack attack. We would rather hear what he plans to do for the country.

Greg Pottstown, Pa.   August 26th, 2008 11:18 am ET

If McCain says anything about national security it is a fear tactic, but when Obama uses terms like bushes third term it is not fear tactics. When people posting hear say things like Mcwar or a vote for McCain is a vote for the draft. That is not fear tactics. You dems are such hypocrites.

Dave   August 26th, 2008 11:18 am ET

Once again, McCain proves himself a liar. He repeatedly claimed that he was going to run a clean campaign, and he's done anything but. He's also embraced figures he once denounced (Falwell and Dobson), he misled the American people with his infamous "walk through Baghdad," and he's flopped on every position that had earned him a "maverick" title. John McCain hasn't kept his word about ANYTHING in the past several years. We'd be incredibly foolish to let such a dishonest man in the White House. His word means NOTHING.

Question: If McCain is going to keep using the "POW" card to deflect any attacks on him then why is it not fair for someone like Wes Clark to call into questions that it is not a qualifcation to become President? The media won't allow anyone to touch his service and he uses it repeatedly in defendinfg himself. Seems a bit unfair to me.

I have an ugly feeling that they will never let Obama serve.

Unfortunately we live in a world where Americans have to be concerned about our security. It seems the Dems have forgotten 911 and from some of the blogs I have read it appears some even support the attack. “The chickens have come home to roost”. Oh well Dems go ahead and stick your head in the sand and pretend that all you have to do is smile and give someone a hug and all is forgiven. Dems got it wrong when the said the war was lost and couldn’t be won in Iraq. They wanted to quit then and don’t seem to have the character to fight when you have to fight. Thank God someone will fight for your freedom even if you don’t want to.

I'm tired of hearing about John McCain's Vietnam POW saga. That does not qualify him to be President of the United States. I have the utmost respect for people in the military, but when did that become the qualification for being President of the United States?

My concern is, what are you going to do for me? How will you make my life better and the lives of my grandchildren. We will always have wars. You just hope that when you vote, you are choosing the person you FEEL will protect you in a time of war, protect your livelihood and make you proud to be an AMERICAN. The one who will give you the opportunity to be the very best you can be in this country; to be able to achieve whatever dreams you have.

It goes to show how bad of a politician Hillary Clinton really is. First rule of politics is anything you say will absolutely be used against you. Obama knows this rule well and that's why he is the nominee. Politics is not about the people for the Clintons, it's about the love and addiction to power and money. Now that the Clintons have lost some of that, they expect the citizens they have hosed over for decades to hedge their dwindled back accounts and egos. Obama was smart enough to 'slow play' his candidacy run and make the real effort to run a clean campaign. The Clintons wouldn't know how to do that if JFK Jr's plane fell out of the sky and landed on their SOHO lawn.

There is little doubt McCain is going to get CREAMED this November, so I do not worry about sore LOSERS and have no need to listen to politicians whine this election year. It will be humorous to watch all the crybaby Clinton zealots, throwing tantrums that their crooked mouthpiece lost fair and square, 'magically' change their minds and end up voting for Obama. They are hypocrites just like their candidates, and suckers to boot for paying off their bills. Maybe they should spend it on their children and families instead of buying out Hillary's loans and affording them a new lake house. Ignorance really is bliss eh? :)

Reason   August 26th, 2008 11:14 am ET

For all of you people who compare a man like McCain to dictators, that's just plain stupid. What exactly has he done that you can base this on. He has done more to bring badly needed comprimise to our government that anyone I know. Do you really think that a 100% democratic government will be any better for America than a 100% Republican government was? Fools. The government historically has never run well when there wasn't some sort of balance. Best case would be one party each controlling either the house or senate and a president from either party. That would bring the government to either slightly left of center or slightly right of center. Either way, a comprimise and better for the MAJORITY americans who are centrists not far left or far right wing nuts jobs. Both are equally dangerous if given total power. With far left democrats in control of both senate and house, there can be no balance or sanity without a counterweight to drag policy back to the mainstrem middle where THE MAJORITY OF US ARE! That means a left leaning Republican like John McCain is the only safe answer. BALANCE. Don't let the pendulum swing all the way back to the other extreme. That's not change we can withstand.

clark   August 26th, 2008 11:14 am ET

Biden endorsed McCain's foreign policy plan four months ago:

"In an April speech at Washington’s Georgetown University, Biden spoke highly of McCain’s recently unveiled foreign policy plan.

“To his credit, John repudiates some of the Bush administration's approach to the world,” Biden said. “He recognizes that the power of our example is as important as the example of our power … that allies we respect, not disdain, can advance our interests. He is especially eloquent about his abhorrence for war — as John is uniquely placed to be.” – Politico Aug 24, 2008

Well, when Hillary is right, she's right. You Dems can't get your head around the FACT that Obama is unqualified. Biden said it. Hillary said it. Bill Clinton couldn't bring himself to say Obama was qualified just a few weeks ago. Why do some many prominent Democrats not get behind this guy? Answer, they know what America is just waking up to. Obama isn't ready for prime time.

sickening   August 26th, 2008 11:12 am ET

The sick thing about this is that it will resonate with average voters. It amazes me that the American voters appear to be stupid enough to let these smears make their decisions. Become informed, people!!

Also, for all of those who accuse Barack of being an empty suit – HAVE YOU EVEN BOTHERED TO LISTEN OR LEARN ABOUT THE GREAT THINGS HE'S DONE?!?!?!?!?!?!? If anyone, McCain is the empty suit. He has created no message in his campaign other than "Barack sucks." All he does is attack and smear – where are HIS ideas? What is he going to do for our country? Barack is constantly and consistantly laying out his plans in detail. John McCain and his filthy surrogates do nothing but spread trash. WAKE UP PEOPLE! But I suppose John McCain has a right to – because he was a POW. That is such crap. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Are Democrats going to learn to fight back for once? How about exposing the truth on McCain? NOT doing it caused John Kerry the election on '04 – DON'T let it happen again. It's time to get down & dirty and play their games or you can watch the White House (and all of our futures) slip away all so one trigger-happy freak can fulfill his "destiny." Sick.

I hope American's aren't stupid enough to fall for these tactics any longer. The poll numbers cannot be accurate. I don't know many people (especially not the millions of new young energized voters) sitting around their non-existent landline phones waiting to be polled.

Well, my friend..."When I was a P.O.W. we didn't have lunch...." Senator McCain "When is your next town hall meeting and where?" "Well, my friend, as a former P.O.W. we never had town hall meetings , hell we never had towns or halls to have one." Senator McCain....What is your favorite meal?" Well, my friend..."We never got meals when I was a P.O.W." AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGG!!!!

I pretty much agree with Eric above. After the democratic convention is over so is my interest in the elections. I can't stand the Republican's sick desperation and slimy sleazy advertising. I can't stand hearing about McCain's references to being a POW in every sentence, is that all he can campaign on. And that hawk faced critic on Larry King last night belittling Michelle's excellent speech finished me for all time as far as the Republicans go.

It always strikes me that the people who criticize Obama are no where near to being as patriotic, as intelligent, or as hard-working as he is in any objective comparison of their lives. What I hear is the bitterness in their own lives coming out as an attack to tear down others rather than build up people. If this really reflects the American people, America has truly lost its way.

McCain is playing dirty knowing there's a bit of a rift in the Democratic party. Obama is clearly the wiser choice than McCain, but it's a shame we didn;t realize in time that Senator Clinton is the best of all.

I,m not surprised that "Swift boat John" has dragged out the attack ads again. He wants you to think that he cares about Hillary. If she had been chosen the veep, the attacks on her would have come immediately. He is just trying to steal her supporters away from backing Obama. It's pathetic and very transparent what he's doing. It's so sad that the McBush campaign can't come up with a single issue that they can solve, so they start dredging up old primary issues Obama and Clinton had with each other. Do you think that McBush and Romney or any of the other republicans didn't have issues with each other? They got as nasty with each other as the dems did. That's just politics. You'd better come up with something better than that John.

Obama will not answer the call at 3 AM he is too busy putting air in everyone's tires trying to solve the energy crisis Like the ad or not, it is true – Obama is not ready to lead this country – NOT EVEN CLOSE. The last thing we need in Washington right now is a junior senator with no experience whose only claim to fame is being able to give sharp sound bytes and speeches... NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME Senator O'blah blah.

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   August 26th, 2008 11:04 am ET

Is McCain's staff so limited that they must take other people's ads? It seems that there is little the McCain campaign can say that isn't talking about McCain as a POW, reusing campaign ads from someone else, or making (often wrong) attacks at Obama. Where is his message other than drill off shore for more oil. That is all I know about his campaign.

Patrick, Takoma Park MD   August 26th, 2008 11:03 am ET

I see that CNN is helping out the McCain campaign again by publicizing its commercials.

Judgement over Experience   August 26th, 2008 11:03 am ET

I have a feeling this will all backfire on mccain as it should. He is too stuck on the surge, war and drilling to be an effective president. He is also way too negative and we have no idea where he stands on anything other than Iraq, the surge and drilling. Sorry but we need a man with better judgment mccain because your experience shows us you have learned nothing at all.

So when is Panamanian McCain going to tell the American people what HE is going to do for this country (other than keep it the same with Bush policies)?

BlueDogDem   August 26th, 2008 11:03 am ET

Is the McCain campaign so intellectually and morally bankrupt that they can't even come up with their own material?

Deb   August 26th, 2008 11:02 am ET

McSame's ad is another reason why he should not be President. There is no diplomacy, there is only his favorite word...WAR! That is not how I want to spend the next four years. Have we not suffered enough these last eight years? Have we not been humiliated enough around the world? Americans let us vote sensibly and let us retire Senator McBush.

NJ_For_Obama   August 26th, 2008 11:02 am ET

McWar, McBush, McSame....It's not going to work this time. We're not as stupid as you, and your republicans think.

Mikey   August 26th, 2008 11:02 am ET

Obama/Biden will be better on foreign policy than McCain/???. Biden is perhaps the best in congress in terms of in-depth knowledge and strategy in that arena.

Of course, McCain would like nothing better than to feed us a steady diet of fear mongering right through November. This American will not be scared into making a stupid vote for an extension bullying foreign policy and totally ineffective and short-sighted domestic policy.

Just this morning on CNN, a high level McCain campaign representative was asked to name one way in which McCain's economic policy will differ from Bush's. She completely evaded the question by going on and on about his (distant) past as a "maverick." That is exactly like a similar situation where one of his top campaign officials was asked basically the same question and he stared at the camera, deer-in-the-headlights and stammered, never providing ANY answer. He looked like McCain trying to explain his position on insurance companies paying for Viagra and not for birth control or answering a simple question about how many homes he and Barbie own.

John McCain – just say no!

Election Watcher   August 26th, 2008 11:01 am ET

The DNC should not have disqualified MI & FL. I'm not faulting either Obama or Clinton on this, but the input of those states may have ended the debate before things turned ugly. Regardless of the electoral outcome, future poli-sci students would do well to study all of the DNC's this year mis-steps to see how NOT to run a primary.

Spencer from VA   August 26th, 2008 11:01 am ET

John McLame is so un-original. Is this the best he can come up with? It looks like more poiltics of fear. Americans are not afraid of radicals in black mask and with AK's. We have that here in the U.S. already. Try something else McLame.

There was too much of Rove tactics in her campaign. The republican are using all her words against Obama.
This is just getting started.
If she runs again there are too many questions she could never answer about Bills dealings.

I like this quote, "Clinton said she did not support Republicans using her past words against Obama."

For the Hillarys, the Michelle Obamas, the Joe Bidens, the Jack Caffertys out there, if you don't want your quotes being used for political fodder, how about thinking before you speak. Otherwise, don't poke your nose into any sort of political or in Mr. Cafferty's case, geopolitical campaign.

I gues CNN doesn't like to cover conventions that don't have
attack dogs on stage. Now, that is excitement for the Americans!

R.I.F.   August 26th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Does McCain have ANY policies that he would wish to share with voters? All I hear is why we shouldn't elect Obama and the only reason why he told us why we should vote for him is because his plane got shot down. I guess that experince is going to get us out of the mess that the economy is in. Why doesn't the media demand that McCain presnt voters with his views? All the media does is cheerlead McCain on to this pointless attacks.

DWT   August 26th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Robert Frost said it best in his poem Primer Lesson...look out how you use proud words. It's a brilliant ploy by someone in the McCain camp, even if it isn't entirely fair. As for legal issues, copyright law states that someone can use a small portion of a copyrighted piece without permission, subject to certain legal qualifications. This also may fall under the satire/parody use of a copyrighted piece. Pretty much the Dems just have to eat this one, and it's up to us to determine whether it is mean spiritied.

Dan   August 26th, 2008 10:58 am ET

What is wrong with you, CNN? It looks like you are one political organization. All your news are Mccain's Ads. It is becoming very biased and boring to read. I was your fan and regular
visitor when you were real. Now it looks someone is worried among you Dems are United for November.

I wish you come back to be real.

Robin   August 26th, 2008 10:58 am ET

I agree on the copyright question....McCain is getting desperate – McCain can't even think up his own ad. He realizes the democrates are coming together and will kick their butt.

Adrian Veidt   August 26th, 2008 10:58 am ET

Typical Republican ad: "Fear, fear, fear, terror, terror, doubt, fear, fear, terror, doubt, fear, terror, terror, fear, terror, doubt, fear..."

Please grow up. We are not afraid. =)

smokey   August 26th, 2008 10:58 am ET

The Ad though negative does demonstrate the follishness of electing someone with such little experience. This is why the polls are so close and why I suspect in November Obama will not win. qualities of candidates   August 26th, 2008 10:57 am ET

I want a candidate who:
* believes the government should not dictate, license, or restrict personal relationships
* believes the US should not be the World Police and that Iraq and Afganistan are mistakes. That we should not subsidize rich countries militaries (Japan, Germany, UK...)
* believes in smaller government and lower taxes
* believes that individual responsibility is important and that the free market will trump any government "program" designed to force market economics
* believes that there are valid arguments for or against abortion, but that it is a deeply personal individual issue that the government should not be involved in.

I've found my candidate...Not McCain, Not Obama!!

about the Democratic "first night" from Cnn, that immediately after
Larry King had the GOPS on commenting on how bad the Convention

Stein, Reagan and that stupid woman. CNN=FOX. as of last night.

dennisk   August 26th, 2008 10:56 am ET

Of course, if Obama had selected Hillary as his running mate, I'm sure the McCain campaign would be running ads heralding his smart decision. The Republicans have always held the Clintons in such high regard and, after all, McCain is such an honorable and honest guy...

Charlie   August 26th, 2008 10:56 am ET

McCain is now just a shell of his previous self as he has joined the Dark Side to get the support of the Conservatives. He has broken all of his promises for a clean campaign as "Team Rove" has now taken over. So long "Maverick".

Linda from Prescott AZ   August 26th, 2008 10:55 am ET

My goodness, poor John McCain, never had an original thought. Where is this dignified campaign he espoused.
Perhaps he doesn't remember what happened when in 2000 his womanizing (with Cindy Hensly) and his wife (Cindy's) drug abuse brought him down. His feelings were so hurt. But his politics are just as dirty as W's.
What a loser.

Javone   August 26th, 2008 10:55 am ET

I can see it now. the phone rings at 3 am and Mccain wakes up shell shocked and hits the button to start a war. then when asked to explain his actions his reponse is "I was a POW and I can do and say whatever I want because of that fact. If thousands get killed then so be it. No one knows better than me how far being a POW can take you...even when you're unqualified." then he walks away in his 500 loafers and spins a wheel to decide which of his 7 houses he wants to visit today.

Don't you recall Barack reusing parts of her 3AM commercial to make his own? I believe that is because the images they use are actually owned by another company and rights can be purchased for a price. I think it is a wonderful tactic. Hillary can say she doesn't approve the message all she wants, but with her face on the screen and her words in the ad, even the most foolhardy voter will put greater stock in McCain's ad than her reprisal.

Mike - Texas   August 26th, 2008 10:54 am ET

John McCain has decided that the American people are not smart enough to see through this garbage and decide on the issues. It's unfortunate, but my fear is that this kind of ad works.

As for James Carville, he has gone back on his word to back Democrats. He's Republican and NOT a Democrat. He lied when he said he'd fully back Obama. None of us trusted him then and certainly not now.

America knows you can put makeup on a pig, but a pig it remains…………..does nothing to change the fact Obama is unqualified, has questionable judgment, no foreign policy experience, consorts with a cast of shady characters (Wright, Ayers, Rezko, Farrakhan, his Communist mentor Frank and on and on)……………

The majority of America will send him back to Chicago soon, bet on it. The continual insults to their intelligence by the media and the arrogant Barack will back fire in November.

The responses to this blog by the Left helps me to understand how weak minded people get sucked into cults and become mindless followers, never bothering to truly look into the "Leaders" they worship. It is both sad and comical……………………….

Vote McCain or join the insane………. http://lmosworld.blogspot.com/

The Clinton campign: the gift that keeps on giving.

bernj   August 26th, 2008 10:43 am ET

Hillary should have thought about the stupidity of what she said when she said it.

I would rather have an intelligent, wise Barack answering the phone at 3am then a senile, warmongering hothead like McCain.

John in Ohio   August 26th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Everything the Republican Party stands for, right here:
"Fear. Be afraid. Vote for Republicans. Republicans will protect you. Republican know what is right for you. Be afraid of Democrats. Republicans will protect you from Democrats. Be afraid of terrorists. Republicans will protect you from terrorists. Your rights don't matter. Your safety is the only thing that matters. The safety of your children is the only thing that matters. Don't worry about your rights. Be afraid for your safety. Republicans will protect your safety from Democrats and terrorists. Democrats are terrorists. "

Boy, you can really tell from the recent ads that the Republicans *really really* wanted Hillary to be the VP nominee, and had a whole bunch of ads all prepped and ready to go in case Hillary had been the running mate. They are sooo disappointed.

Somebody should tell them that these ads didn't work for Hillary, and they won't work for McCain.

LIBERAL   August 26th, 2008 10:42 am ET

FEAR, FEAR, FEAR.... FEAR IS YOUR ONLY GOD!

WAKE UP PEOPLE. WE ARE IN THE BATTLE OF OUR LIFES AND MCCAINS CAMP IS STILL CRACKING JOKES. PLEASE!!! PLEASE!!! DON'T TAKE IT LYING DOWN THIS TIME!

PRAYING FOR CHANGE IN 2009

The Bush Twins : George and John   August 26th, 2008 10:41 am ET

They're going to play the "fear" card again. The only thing I fear right now is that Americans won't wake up to this game and put a stop to the Repubs.

Obama/Biden

RH   August 26th, 2008 10:41 am ET

Republican fear-mongering? They stick with this because it works. The American electorate goes for it every time.

Open Your 3rd Eye   August 26th, 2008 10:41 am ET

HOPE OR FEAR.

SMART OR STUPID.

IT'S DECISION TIME.

jim   August 26th, 2008 10:41 am ET

And the Dems didn't even see this coming

Texas Straight Talker   August 26th, 2008 10:41 am ET

Ok CNN – How many time will you continue to print this story???? Where is the so called fair reporting of this presidential campaign. You guys are a joke. Seriously.

Dameun Strange   August 26th, 2008 10:41 am ET

Again, the Republicans don't have any ideas of their own. So, really...let them keep stealing ads. It just proves that they don't ever have anything new to ad to the progress of America...haven't for about 40 years or so.

Greg, NY   August 26th, 2008 10:40 am ET

F E A R!

Jim   August 26th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Suuuuurge!!! That's the answer to everything over at the GOP. Gas price's too high, suuuuurge! Health care unaffordable, suuuuuuuurge! How do we stop our dependence on oil, drill drill drill! Tax cuts for my wife, excuse me for the rich!

R.I.F.   August 26th, 2008 10:40 am ET

I told you.

If anyone read my previous comment on the vets attacking Obama ad I said that evry ad that attacks Obama is raced to the top of the ticker by CNN. Look how quick this one raced up.

Ian   August 26th, 2008 10:40 am ET

How weird that they are airing these ads at the same time as the Democratic convention. Give me a break.

No Choice   August 26th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Obama or MacCain.

Aamerica has no choice.

This country is going to go straight to the hell.

Good luck, America.

JohnBoy   August 26th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Borg vs Obama will change everything.

Obama will never be President.

We demand that only Americans are President.

Why are the drivebye media not reporting this?

Borg is a Democrat and a American.

McCain 08

APS in Hawaii   August 26th, 2008 10:39 am ET

I agree with the ad and how it is being used because it is true, I do not trust Obama to answer the 3 AM phone call. Hiilary is right and so was Biden when he said Obama was not qualified to lead.

Hayden   August 26th, 2008 10:39 am ET

Too bad, Obama can't make this kinds of ads because nobody would not believe him.

Go John McCain!

tai   August 26th, 2008 10:38 am ET
