Convention delegates greeted Clinton with a standing ovation. (Photo credit: Getty Images)
DENVER (CNN) - "Four more years of the last eight years." That’s a strong effort to refocus this campaign as a referendum on the Bush record. And to make the case that McCain equals Bush. These delegates are thrilled. The election has been in danger of becoming a referendum on Obama instead of the Bush record.

Watch: Hillary Clinton says 'It's time to unite'

Hillary’s speech is what used to be called a spellbinder. Or a stem-winder. Whatever.

This woman is tough. She burnished that reputation in the campaign. She never stopped fighting and never gave up - and drew enormous admiration for it.

A lot of Democrats wonder if Obama is this tough.

Great speech, she cemented herself in history as she should be, but she never said Obama was ready to lead which was her biggest knock against him during the campaign. I am sure the liberals will bash this comment, but how could she not address his biggest weakness?

akaDoug   August 26th, 2008 11:24 pm ET

Thank you Hillary!

I am fully in Obama's court and I will do what it takes to make sure he wins!

McCain can't or won't change this country for the better! Big oil and big business won't allow it!

Go Obama, Go Hillary, Go Democrats!

Alex, USMC   August 26th, 2008 11:24 pm ET

I always wonder why these Hillary supporters are so focused on 2012. If Obama wins, she's sure to have an important role in his administration– he'd be foolish not to have her. 8 years of her as an important member of his cabinet and then 8 years as President means you'd get 16 years of Hillary in a posiiton to help Americans.

Waiting for 2012 not only puts someone who hold opposite views from Hillary into power for four to eight years, but cuts the time she can influence the government from a national level in half.

If you want Hillary in power, it just seems that having her (potentially) for 8 years after waiting 4 to 8 years is a lot less appealing than the 8 years she would almost definately serve in an Obama presidency combined with her own potential 8 years as Commander in Chief.

josar   August 26th, 2008 11:24 pm ET

i would vote for o.j
but i will not vote for salamma

TC in Ohio   August 26th, 2008 11:24 pm ET

Hillary did her thing! She is definately a fighter! It took alot of courage to do what she did tonight. Hats off to Hillary! She will play a key role in Obama's administration.

Terry, NJ   August 26th, 2008 11:24 pm ET

Yep. Her speech was apparent that she was the one who should have been the nominee. Love u Hillary! Sorry though, I still can't vote for the empty suit! For you though, I'd vote for you ANY day!!!

Hillary! Hillary!! Hillary!!
NOBAMA!!!!

Frank in NYC   August 26th, 2008 11:24 pm ET

Oh my god the woman delegate that they got to speak about Hillary is a nut job!! Oh my god CNN is hilarious

Shannon   August 26th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

What a great speech! As an Obama supporter I thank Hillary for that wonderful speech!! Thank you Senator Hillary Clinton!!

Kate   August 26th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

Hillary did a great job!! She has realized that we the people wanted Obama, and the he will be the next president. I'm glad she has come to realize it and will help us out. Thank you Hillary! Now all of us democrats MUST unite!

So let me say....
Bill Schneider is terribly annoying! Can be any more biased towards the Clintons and McCain?? Thanks to people like him who are manipulating media stories to go against Obama, we Democrats might lose an election because of people like him who want us to seperate..

STOP MANIPULATING THE NEWS WITH YOUR BIASED REPORTING BILL SCHNEIDER!!! EVERY TIME I SEE YOU ON TV YOU MAKE ME SICK TO MY STOMACH WITH HOW UNPROFESSINAL YOU ARE!!

I think my 10 year old cousin would be a better journalist than you. LETS SEE IF YOU POST THIS CNN!!

OBAMA AND BIDEN 2008!!!!!!!!! WE WILL WIN BACK THE WHITE HOUSE!!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! DEMOCRATS UNITE!

Louise in CA   August 26th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

This is a real leader. If only the Democratic Party hadn't short-changed her with their punishment of Florida and Michigan, we'd have a candidate who could really be ready for the White House, not some inexperienced newby with a knack for rhetoric. I'm so disappointed in this whole political mess. I'm a life-long Democrat who can hardly stand my own party anymore.

Sheila   August 26th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

So? Will we change channels on the next journalist who tries to convince us that Hillary Clinton doesn't really care who wins the election? Will we give that journalist the time of day when they try to convince us that Hillary secretly wants Obama to lose so she can run again in four years. I'm watching a lot less of those journalists these days because they aren't reporting news. They're not reporting facts. They're not reporting what the vast majority of Americans believe. They're trying to dramatize democracy and turn it into a ridiculous soap opera. They're trying to justify 24/7 journablabber. They're trying to convince you that what they think is what is. It's not.
Hillary Clinton loves this country or she wouldn't have bothered with her speech. She wouldn't have delivered it with such conviction.
So ALL YOU BIG MOUTH tv news people – Leave her alone and stop criticizing her. We've had our fill of that.

Van   August 26th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

ML you were NEVER a Hillary supporter.

If you were you would trust her judgment.

Thank you Hillary for putting some sense into these PUMAs.

It was a great speech! I have a feeling that some people are regretting their vote for Obama right about now.
Although I was a Hillary supporter and I appreciated her speech, I am still voting McCain.

Its sad that you are still bitter.... Are you seriously ready to take 4 more years of BUSH/Mccain?? Trust me I dont think you want that. Let it goooo.... VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN 08!!!

Miriam Hyde   August 26th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

Had Hillary been as focused and this good throughout her campaign, I may have continued supporting her. It must have been exceptionally hard to say those words. Gotta give it to her – she said all the right things, acknowledged everyone, and did it in a magnificent way.

My only prayer is that she got thru to the lunkheads who still say they will vote for McCain rather than Obama.

No way. no how, no McCain. Four more months!

John from LA   August 26th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

BUYERS REMORSE!!!!-DNC you "selected" the wrong candidate!!!-HRC will always deliver!!!

HoldenLitgo   August 26th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

Brilliant. Keep going.

Eric De La Torre   August 26th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

Obama is weak and America will realize this when McCain wins in November. I will not vote for McCain but I will not vote Obama either, neither will my family, or the Rio Grande Valley. We're looking forward to Hillary 2012!

Chris, Denver   August 26th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

If you watched this speech tonight and you still don't support Obama, then you never truly were a Clinton supporter. How could she possibly have been more clear: Obama is her candidate, and he must become president.

No way. No how. No McCain!

Mike Bulmer   August 26th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

Anyone who believes Clinton is still in this for herself needs to wake up. Her message was delivered with unmistakable sincerity. She knows Obama has the same vision of the future of this country that she does, and anyone at this point who is still too wrapped up in their own selfish feelings deserves far, far less.

dustin   August 26th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

the fake hillary-turned-mccain supporters on this site aren't even mildly amusing. be creative, won't you?

THE REPUBLICAN PARTY ARE AGENTS FROM HELL   August 26th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Hillary did a good job tonight! What I like the most is when she asked where you in this just for me? It really should have made all realize that even she realize this is bigger than her and her supporter's angry feelings.

Gail   August 26th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

As a woman who has voted every election in her adult life, I am sitting out this election and not exercising my right to vote. I do hope a year and half from now we all go back and listen to everything that has been said, Democrat or Repulican, it's all hot air just to get elected. Very sad.

aware   August 26th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Hillary is the best! :)

The faces of many delegates showed buyers remorse as they listened to the woman who should be president!

Obama will lose but it won't be Hillary's fault! :)

Mack   August 26th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Obama should dump Biden now.....Hillary just saved the democratic party. We will follow...but she should be leading. Hillary proved tonight why she should have been our nominee. Now Obama has to step up.

Robert C   August 26th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Amazing speech. I got chills - beautifully delivered. This is the best I've ever seen Hillary.

As for those Hillary supporters who still say they are voting for McCain, I (and I believe she would) say you were never truly Hillary supporters at all. She sees the big picture. She understands what is at stake and the terrific danger in McCain as president vs. Barack.

Get past the person, focus on the politics.

If you were for Hillary, you are for Obama.

Learn and THEN Speak   August 26th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

for anyone that heard that speech, is a true democrat (supports the parties policies) and was a hillary supporter:

If you are still stating you are supporting McCain, there is no other excuse other than you are a racist. Point blank. which is fine, except your racial injustices and support McCain. 60 % of such anyhow.

American   August 26th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Great speech Mrs. Clinton.....Bravo!

Democrats Unite!

No way......No how.....No McCain!

Thank you Hillary.

Obama/Biden '08!

ClockWorkOrange   August 26th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

I just saw Hillary's speech. If Obama loses, his supporters can't blame Hillary. It's time to man up and take responsibility for their candidate's performance at this point. If he doesn't get a bump in the polls after the convention it's nobody's fault but Obama's (and the people who voted for him in the primary).

Buyer's remorse, anyone?

Mark   August 26th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

I am a democrat who will vote for ~Maverick McCain 08~.......Why is it so hard for the DNC to understand that AMERICA CANNOT AFFORD AN UN-EXPERIENCED, UNKNOWN, UNQUALIFIED, TRY OUT WANNABE PRESIDENT THAT REQUIRES ON THE JOB TRAINING!!!!
NOBAMA!

sacto joe   August 26th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

THANK YOU, SENATOR CLINTON!!!

GO BAMA!

Fight hard now , lots of people want a fighter.   August 26th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

I hope those republican who voted for Hillary will realize now that she mean business in supporting Obama. So, if you are a real democrat who voted for Hillary Clinton, you have to ask yourself the question she asked you. Did you just voted for her in the primary or you voted for her because of the issues that matters to you?

No voted wasted die haerted supports, now the ball is in your court. if you are really democrats you most follow her that she will way to support Obama. God Bless you.

Andrea, California   August 26th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

Should have been her. Completely.

Reality   August 26th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

SHE DID WHAT SHE NEEDED TO DO. I JUST HOPE ITS ENOUGH TO CONVINCE ALL OF HER FOLLOWERS THAT VOTING FOR MCCAIN IS AGAINST ALL OF THEIR PERSONAL INTERESTS AND THIS COUNTRIES INTERESTS. OBAMA WILL DO THE JOB RIGHT AND WILL BE A GRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT PRESIDENT FOR THIS COUNTRY AND EVERYONE INSIDE OF IT :)

OBAMA / BIDEN 2008

Marc PDX   August 26th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

No, Obama does not come off as this strong. That's part of the problem with him. He seems over his head (jimmy carter) in the middle of all of this. We'll wait for him in his stadium on Thursday to see how he stacks up. But I suspect it will be windmills and unicorns again.

MK   August 26th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

Hillary beats Obama hands down. She may be speaking on behalf of Obama, but Obama is Obama. He is inexperience, and empty-headed. Hillary cannot change that fact with her endorsement. Obama is going to lose the Presidential election. Too bad, the Dems squandered their chance to win back the Presidency. Hillary proved once again that she is the best candidate.

Jim Wagner   August 26th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

Another reason I am so proud to have supported her with money and as a volunteer. A tough act to follow, I'd say.

I am glad she has such a loving daughter and so many millions of supporters, and I know we will be there for her, watching her back, for years to come.

Tim N.   August 26th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

The Democrats took the tougher road here. Hillary would've easily won the general election. Now, they're in a real fight.

Her speech was excellent...for her benefit...she never implored her ardent supporters to really put their weight behind Obama. She said she supports him but didn't put her full force behind him.

aliou FL   August 26th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

4 more years of Bush/Karl Rove doctrine is much worse if applied by mcain. HE is turning out to be more idiotic than Bush was, first of all for hiring Rove's hired hands to devise his policies and tactics.

I can't believe McCain would hire his own swift boaters to swifboat his opponent.

Thatis the dumbest thing I have ever seen. I thought McCain lost his mind in viet as repuks like to give as an excuse for why he abandonned his wife. But I didn't know he simply became insane.

Ramesh Shrestha   August 26th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

I love the Democratic spirit of Unity. Obama will definitely be a great president, in line with those great ones we have had in history. Lets not emulate the old and dead ones, lets hail victory for a great president in making.

Obama 08.

Ian MacIsaac   August 26th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

From a longtime Obama supporter, good job, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. I am proud to have you in the Democratic Party.

Mark   August 26th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

I have been an Obama supporter all along, and I have certainly been critical of Hillary, but I must say-

GOD BLESS YOU HILLARY, that was a great speech. I can now honestly call myself a HIllary supporter. That was gracious, heartfelt, and right on the money. I was moved by your speech, and I think you helped the Democrats to find their voice in this convention. I hope all Democrats heard this speech and took it to heart. Look out John McCain!

Moments after Hillary demands unity, Schneider keeps playing the disunity card. "A lot of Democrats wonder if Obama is that tough."
Obama=weak.
Schneider once again chases Karl Rove's stick and lays it at his feet, panting.
Really, really sad.
And yes, Hillary was magnificent.

Mc Blogger   August 26th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

It is gonna be hard. But The truth is we have to vote for Obama. The only other option is utter failure. I think with the Clintons help he will be an ok president.

Dan J   August 26th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

Her speech has proven the fact that Obama made his first major screw-up by not picking her. It's gonna be darn near impossible for anyone to trust his decision-making skills after this electrifying speech.

Fred   August 26th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

I will vote for Barack Obama, just like Hillary.

Obama is plenty tough. I love him because he'd rather take the high road but I'm guessing if the Republicans get him in the gutter they will regret it.

Texas Witch Twister   August 26th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

Hillary showed tonight why she should be the President of the United States. No speech since JFK's speech has ever come close to her production tonight. Even though she poured her heart into uniting the Democrats. I am afraid us supporters of hers have crossed way too far over to come back now to support a bum as OBAMA. We will never support him and his ungracious supporters.

Hillary kicked butt! She was magnanimous, moving, and REAL.... I loved that she asked her supporters if they were supporting her or supporting the soldier in Iraq, the mother with cancer, and the parent making minimum wage.

McCain thinks it's ok for women to make less than men, for insurance companies to pay for Viagra but not birth control.... 4 years of the last 8 years... great line!

Jean, Indiana   August 26th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

No, we do not wonder if Obama is that tough! The Ohio and Mississippi Rivers have joined. They are one. It is a force of nature now. Unstoppable!

Clinton supporter   August 26th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

Don't fall for these divisive tactics for ratings democrats! Hillary has made it clear, we are united, you can try all you want to divide us for your ratings media but you will only loose more and more respect until you will loose your audience that has grown so much during this election.

Keep up the negativity and your asking for people to loose respect for you cnn. Don't turn to fox news please!

Esther   August 26th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

What a speech...but that will not encourage me to vote for Obama...I want to show my anger towards Obama for not choosing Senator Hillary Clinton as his VP...see Obama wins because of the Republican they are afraid that if it will be Hillary the presidential candidate then McCain will loose..but now because Obama did not choose Mrs. Clinton he is gonna loose for sure....what a superbly woman..so smart...so full of life for our country...

He is not that tough! Democrats made a BIG mistake by choosing him!

I don't think Obama is as tough as Hillary. He has been conceding everything to McCain. Obama needs to come out fighting. This is his race to lose so Obama better wake up soon and come out punching. Obama should be ahead by 10 points in polls.

chilliej   August 26th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

Sandi from Michigan   August 26th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

Now can we talk about Barack Obama and Joe Biden?

Now can you ask delegates questions about Barack Obama?

The rest of the convention should be 100% about Barack Obama.

Hillary ROCKS   August 26th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

Obama is not as tough as Hillary – She is absolutely incredicble.
Inspiring and truly is a blue American with all Americans best interests at heart.

Obama is STUPID for not picking her as his VP.

That was a STUPID judgement call. She is formidable and strong. Even being slapped in the face by Obama she still got up there and rang his bell and for that he and his supporters should be eternally greatful ... cause she did not have too – one tough woman.
An inspiration for ALL women.

Kenneth M.   August 26th, 2008 11:18 pm ET

Don't let the MSM do your thinking for you   August 26th, 2008 11:18 pm ET

Excellent speech Mrs. Clinton! There was no question of the sincerity. This just proves to me that the media is trying to pull a fast one in pushing the rift among democrats. Even Bill Clinton showed a true enthusiasm for the cause. Sorry republicans, we're not going to buy your crap anymore. But hey, maybe if you'll just get your act together and start thinking about the rest of the American people for a change, in 20 years or so we'll let you have another shot at it.

HIllary Clinton stole my heart tonight. She's tougher than Obama, that's ok though. Who says a leader always has to be tough?? Bush acts like he's tough and look where the US is at today??

I like that Obama listens to people and then utilizes wisdom before making decisions. I like his spirit of unity and willingness to work with whoever he needs to work with to get the job done.

I know Obama will make an awesome president and turn this country around so that it's going on the right track again.

If McCain wins, America doesn't have a chance domestically or internationally.

Weather your for Hillary or for Obama we do need to get together. This is not about either of the two, it's about AMERICA! McShame stands against everything Hillary or Obama believe in.

What has happened should be talked about BUT if you supported Hillary in the past and vote McShame you are spitting in her face. YOU are helping to destroy everything she has worked for.

We also have to look to the future.
EVERY TIME an Obama supporter rips down Hillary it divides us.
EVERY TIME a Hillary supporter rips down Obama it divides us.

If Obama needs Hillary supporters to win, then Hillary needs OBAMA supporters to win in the future. this is just a FACT!

We have a much grater issue to deal with and it's name is
John McCain!

chuks   August 26th, 2008 11:16 pm ET

Only 2 words for Hillary's Speech

Simply Fabulous!!!!

Thank you Hillary for clarifying why McCain would be just SO WRONG for America!

tedious898   August 26th, 2008 11:16 pm ET

I now remember why the Clintons were always our champions. My Thanks and gratitude goes out to Hillary.

Now we realize anyone promoting McCain is a Republican. Have some honor people and identify yourself as such.

Katrina   August 26th, 2008 11:16 pm ET

Absolutely awesome speech! I've been mad at her, but this was beyond fantastic. No way no how no McCain - hahaha! go, Dems!

BV   August 26th, 2008 11:16 pm ET

Hillary will be out of debt by Friday.

LancePearce   August 26th, 2008 11:16 pm ET

Obama was tough enough to win the primary. I think he is tough enough to win the election.

April in Texas   August 26th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

I would like to say that as a woman had Obama chosen Hillary he would have lost my vote. Obama chose Biden due to his background and how he hasnt allowed Washington to change his beliefs and way of life. I think it was a wise choice. Now for those planning on voting McCain, I truely dont understand why you even vote as it seems you vote for preference and not for policies. Obama and Clinton had such similar policy views but the only difference was one was old Washington (Hillary) and one was new Washington (Obama). I wonder if any of you have ever done community work as Obama did because if you had you would realize how much experience and knowledge you can get from that work. Womens issues are one of the largest differences between Obama and McCain which will pretty much halt for years many womens rights. If you plan to vote please do research instead of listening to others including me. Otherwise you are just voting cause your upset and please if you do don’t complain later if you dont like what you get.

Hillary did great tonight and said it like it is. I was impressed and those who are still planning to vote McCain you were not really for the democrats.

Hillary Clinton's speech was absolutely incredible, healing and dynamic.

dustin   August 26th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

who are these "a lot of democrats"? stop pulling stuff out of thin air please. clinton was absolutely great tonight, but there's no doubt obama can take the heat. he beat clinton afterall.

stop bloviating.

Gail   August 26th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

Okay, excuse me but isn't the energy stance a flip flop? Now they (the Dems) want to drill here in the US? What happened to all the tree hugging, tax the oil companies so they can't drill Democrats?

Bushwhacked in Eugene, OR   August 26th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

THIS is the Hillary I wanted to see - but didn't see - during the campaign. THIS Hillary I could have voted for. She really hit a home run, in my eyes. Too bad she took her campaign elsewhere. I'm still thrilled with Obama, however. He will make a great president, too.

Senior white female for Obama/Biden '08.

Hillary ~

From somone who admired you before the primary and couldn't stand you during the primary... I've gained a whole new respect for you. Well done, well done, well done!

PUMAS... if you still can't get it through your thick skulls that a vote for McCain is a vote against everything Hillary stands for, you are truly a portrait of ignorance.
