Hillary Clinton said Tuesday night that she thinks Democrats will leave Denver united.

DENVER, Colorado (CNN) – Sen. Hillary Clinton released her delegates Wednesday, allowing those who had pledged to vote for her to choose whomever they please, presumably Sen. Barack Obama, in a roll call vote later today.

"I am here today to release you as my delegates," Clinton told them in a packed ballroom at the Denver Convention Center. "What is so important is that at the end of today we will nominate Barack Obama and Joe Biden as the president and vice president of the United States."

Watch: Clinton releases her delegates

The mood in the ballroom was largely one of resignation, with a brief flash of emotion: when Clinton told the crowd of her decision, some in the audience shouted “No!” Others booed. The senator just smiled and waited for them to finish, then continued her speech.

While Clinton said she wasn't telling her delegates what to do, she reinforced her commitment: "I signed my ballot this morning for Senator Obama"

At the event, Clinton confirmed that her staff has been cooperating and discussing how to have a unified convention with the Obama campaign.

“This was such a competitive primary season,” Clinton told her delegates. “I want you to know this has been a joy. Yes we didn't make it but boy did we have a good time trying.”

Clinton engaged in a bitter primary battle with Obama until the last contest in June before conceding. On Tuesday night, she delivered a headline address to the party’s convention in Denver, which was intended to heal any rift that the contentious campaign had caused.

“I believe that as Democrats and as Americans we will leave Denver united,” she said on Wednesday.

Clinton told the delegation that she had waited to address them in one place so she could address them all before releasing them.

She also took the opportunity to take a swipe at the opposition party, telling her supporters that Republicans “should apologize to the country.”

I really don't get it. Hillary lost the primary. Today she released her delegates. Even if they all continue to vote for her (yeah, right), Obama will win the nomination tonight. In what cuckoo, twisted world can someone possilby think Hillary still has a chance for 08?

Hillary lost the popular vote. Hillary lost the delegate count. Hillary lost the number of states. Yes, it was close. No, not close enough.
Give us all a friggin' BREAK.

I am proud of Hillary Clinton, I think she pulled it off last night! I am glad that the Democrats are showing strong signs of unity. However, please let's not be naive, Hillary Clinton gave that speech for Hillary Clinton's political future as much as she did for Obama (if not more).

Also, the fact remains that Hillary ran a slimy campaign and she had to pick up after her mess. She did not do Obama any favors! Obama owes her nothing!

Vince,

Do you honestly believe that Hillary Clinton could even become a candidate after this messy ordeal? She still has only HER supporters. They weren't enough to win this time around. There are still many more turned off by her.

If Obama loses this, there's not a chance in hell the rest of us would support her in 2012. She's trash.

I have never been more proud of 'my gender' nor of one of THE most important American women, in American history! Senator Clinton did ALL she needed to do to elect Barack Obama as our next President! I am a 'daughter of the South' (born in Georgia. raised in Arkansas, and called 'Southern' California 'home' for nearly a quarter century), and I am also in the same 'age group' of Senator Clinton, a group which has been unifed for 'Clinton for President'...I will always remain a fan, of this woman who has made history by (almost) becoming the first female nominee...that said, WE must do as Hillary said, in her historic speech last night...release the votes intended for her to Senator Obama! Our beloved nation CANNOT survive another 4 years of 'Republican Destruction'! We have endured the unthinkable, on our precious American soil...we have bled more than we can bear. Bush steadily drained our economy, the rich got richer, and the rest of us just got depressed, and felt we were/are drowning in the mire created by the current administraion...BUT, there is HOPE...we have the 'LIFE SUPPORT'....we have OBAMA!! Senator Clinton gave us her blessing, to support Barack Obama...we MUST, this nation needs to live again, to regain the respect we once had in the world, we must 'save face'...we MUST be Democrats...we MUST ELECT BARACK OBAMA!!!
God speed and God Bless (our) America!!

Christopher   August 27th, 2008 5:28 pm ET

people like John who quote Hillary, "No way, no how" and then replace the "No Mccain" with " No Obama", just show how closed minded some of her supporters are. She gave a powerful speech that was at many times directed at her supporters, and this idiot still doesn't get it. go ahead and keep your hopes raised for 2012, buddy.

If every time we have an election and the loser of the nomination process refuse to support the nominee then Democratic party will be a loser. Remember when Bill Clinton won 43% in 1992? If his opponent's supporters did the same thing as Hill's supporters are doing now, Bill wouldn't have won in 1992.

As a barak obama supporter I can say that I am SO PROUD of Hillary Clinton...I always knew she would do the right thing. As for CNN - YOU SUCK AS A NEWS SOURCE and I HOPE THAT NEXT WEEK, YOU GIVE MCCAIN and the REPUBLICANS THE SAME DIVISIVE CRAP that you have been feeding democrats all week.

For obama supporters still complaining about Hillary, you need to shut up. The women did a fantastic job last night. To her supporters who still refuse to support obama...how sad that - unlike your courageous leader - you can't put the party above yourselves.

I see Hillary people are still upset. But if Obama loses this election, it will be because of what they've done to this party. If we lose, don't expect another Democratic in the White house for the next 12 years because Hillary will not win in 2012, as you all say, because you all need Obama's 18 million votes to make it happen.

When the Supreme court become ultra right-wing and women lose their rights to chose, don't come crying to the people who are trying to get a Democratic in the House house for 2008.

What a shame you are all making of this party.

Clinton; I believe her speech last night was a "Grand Slam" and I believe she is one of the finest politicians this country has to offer. she did not make it and as she put it; the fight goes on; we must keep moving, if we want to taste freedom we must keep going.

It is up to the leadership to bring unity. If Obama is not able to bring unity to the Democratic Party it is his fault and shows lack of leadership and judgement. Shame on so many of you Obama fans for your horrible disrespect for a past President and current Senator. This is one of the many reasons Obama will lose. If Obama loses it is no ones fault but his own period!

Citizen Watch   August 27th, 2008 5:20 pm ET

Obama supporters are fools. Their rancor has made it very difficult for Hillary supporters to confidently move to Obama. I keep checking these blogs to see if their tone has changed, and it hasn't. I really wanted to vote my party affiliation, but I have pretty much decided to vote for McCain because I do not want to deal with the identity politics (generational ones, for the most part) that an Obama presidency represents. Again, Obama supporters could have played this election cycle so differently. If they had, Hillary's supporters would not be so reluctant. The Clintons bear no responsibility if Obama fails. His supporters are the ones who I hold responsible.

To 'Hillary Supporter now for McCain:
The DNC SHOULD NOT HAVE THE POWER to pick a candidate. We, the people, should have that right!
We the people DID pick Obama!!!!!
To all the people who talk about Obama's 'inexperience'. Abraham had even less experience. Most of the country did not want him elected. Now he is considered one of our greatest presidents. You cannot always go by experience. And Obama's greatness (or lack of) won't be known until after he finishes his 2 terms.

Even Hillary is going to cast her delegate vote for Obama. Now that is gracious, only issue I have is why this didn’t happen 3 months ago? The wounds will have healed by now. Oh I forget Hillary wanted one of those moments like in a war movie with a wounded soldier saying at the end “go, go on without me”.

Enough CNN. You have killed the horse, bitten it to a pulp, revived it, and now it doesn’t look like a horse anymore. I think who ever breathed life back into it made it into a cat that now has nine lives and will never die.

I also do not agree that Obama owes Hillary anything...just because she's come forward to endorse him and work for him. She is the one who screwed things up by running a negative campaign launched at him. It's her mess and she SHOULD help clean it up–but CAN she?

No Way, No How, Nobama!

Catchy, isn't it?

After watching Obama and his followers in action, I'm sure Chelsea Clinton wouldn't be caught dead doing anything in Democratic politics.

I love the holier than thou lectures above. "Don't let bitterness and hate..." "She finally did the right thing..."

Same old condescending arrogance that Obama inspires, even after Hillary gave a wonderful speech, the likes of which no other losing candidate would ever even contemplate. Still, we heard, "she didn't make the case for Obama's ability in international issues."

I say, Obama, make your own case. Stop relying on bullying and threats to get your betters to do your job! And try to give a straight answer instead of fumbling around, if you can. What was it you said, the tough question was "above your pay grade."

Give me a break!

I can't wait to vote AGAINST Obama and the DNC. But you can bet I won't fail to vote. That's what The One wants. No. I will vote for John McCain.

And I will do so proudly!

Bacause of the PUMAs, I will never entertain the idea of a woman being president again. Why? So we have to put up with the shrill cawing from her supporters and charges of sexism if the world doesn't bow down to her? Hillary was a great candidate, and even though I don't appreciate the way she campaigned, I still would have voted for her if Obama lost the primary.

Just say it: You're mad because a black person may be president before a woman.

To all Hillary supporters who either plan to vote for McCain or stay home on election night:
Did you actually hear her speech last night at the convention? Were you in it just for her, or for America? In the next four years...
- TWO Supreme Court justices will be replaced. Do you want another two like Clarence Thomas? Then stay home or vote McCain
- America's role in Iraq will be decided. Do you want thousands more Americans dying there for another 20 years? Then stay home or vote McCain
- The economy will recover or will tank completely. Do you want you home to be worth less? Do you want more jobs outsourced? Then stay home or vote McCain, who by the way thinks 5 million a year makes you rich and who doesn't know how many homes he owns.

If you choose not to vote in November, or to vote McCain out of bitterness, you are cutting your nose of to spite your face. And you will have nobody to blame but yourselves for prolonging the disaster George Bush jr. has created in the past 8 years.

And by the way, if your strategy is vote McCain now so Hillary can run in 2012, you had better be careful. If Butterfly ballots can put George jr. in the white house for 8 years, then your "strategy" can put McCain in the White house for 8 years also.

I don't understand the PUMA term used. CHANGE is in interesting concept and the first CHANGE we as American's have seen is the CHANGE in party affiliations. As a predominently democratic voter I do not view myself as a democrat. Change is more people viewing themselves as independents free to choose any candidate that meets THEIR own priorities and/or needs. As much as I wanted Hillary to be president and now am left with two candidates. I have the utmost respect and always will for Hillary. America's loss!

Baze   August 27th, 2008 5:15 pm ET

I'm sure the racists and PUMA radicals in her party will still throw a hissy fit and vote for HRC anyway. However, I'm not convinced they will vote for McCain. They're just using that as a threat in a ridiculous hail mary attempt to get HRC elected. Typical politics. Quite pathetic actually.

Your comment is awaiting moderation.

Hillary talked about her accomplishments, not the reasons that she backs Obama. It's too bad the Democrat Voters rolled over and let them presume who the nominee is, thus "presumptive". What is the convention even for when CHOICE is ruled out. The whole point of the convention is to DEBATE and CHOOSE the best candidate. The whole concept is lacking of freedom and everyone thinks it's great because of "party unity".

The same problem with the general elections–limited choice, or the perception of it. People are really UPSET about having to vote for Obama OR McCain because they think that is the only choice. It isn't!!! THere are other parties, and voting for them is not throwing your vote away. It is standing up for your beliefs. It's apparent that the Democrats don't want freedom of choice or debate. Same will happen next week in Minnesota with the RNC. NO CHOICE.

I'm voting for Bob Barr. and If you care, he already has a VP picked. Also the Libertarian Party Convention was FULL of debate and soul-searching about the direction of the party and the choice of a candidate. It was not a multi-media, sing-along, touchy-feely unveiling of a predestined candidate!!!

For those of you screaming "disenfranchised", I congratulate you on trying out a new vocab word this year, but how about you look up its actual definition? Your candidate not winning is not it.

Check out the history of people actually losing their voting rights through caging, voter intimidation, and purging of voter rolls. These would be the tactics of the party you plan on supporting in November.

Tim Osburn   August 27th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

Having read all of you Hillary people that are going to vote for McCain so Hillary can win in 2012, I guarantee you that I will go door to door in 2012 and do everything I can to make sure she has no chance whatsoever. And I only will do this because of you. Her supporters. I don't blame her for whatever happens, but I totally blame you people. Babies, whiners. Losers all. If we lose it'll be because of you and I will sure as hell do whatever it takes to make sure the Clintons never get elected again. Not because of them, but because of you. It is obvious that your post is not true, not realistic, and not even remotely logical. You claim to be for a party and yet, stand by an illegitimate EXCUSE(s) to not vote for Sen. Obama & Sen. Biden.

If what I say applies to you then YOU ARE NO PATRIOT, and TRULY A DISLOYAL INDIVIDUAL. So at the end of the day are you some a childish ignorant fool who votes without logic or reason for individuals, or are you a Patriot, who will vote fore representation of what is in the best interest of ALL AMERICANS, EVEN THE ONES WHO DON'T LOOK, ACT, SOUND, EAT, THINK, OR HAVE NAMES LIKE YOU?

I say this with a clear conscious; I am a VETERAN, MODERATE, INDEPENDENT, PATRIOT, and LOYAL CITIZEN of our Republic.

Paris   August 27th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

The point is that Hillary never endorsed Obama’s character and ability as a president.
This is the same women who questioned Obama’s readiness for the job and I have yet to see or hear anything that can counter her prior accusations.

When Hillary believes that Obama is not ready to be the President it is very unfair and undemocratic to expect her to do it because of the party.

Country comes first not the political party.

Kimberly from Houston, TX   August 27th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

Thank you Hillary!

Linda of Atlanta   August 27th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

I wish the press would stop being the news and report some news that they have not themselves made up. Speculation is all that the news now contains.
The delegates who are continuing to oppose Obama have a bigger issue than disappointment. The fact that nobody besides Charles Barkley is willing to call it by its real name is unfortunate.

Jim Wade, Iowa   August 27th, 2008 5:11 pm ET

Another thing. OBAMA WON THE NOMINATION. Nothing was stolen from Hillary. You claim Hillary won the popular vote, well guess what, THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE CAUCUS STATES! You whined about Florida and Michigan not getting a voice. Well guess what, if Hillary won the nomination based on the popular primary vote, then people like me in Iowa, and those in the many other caucus states, would have had no say. Grow up, you do not know anything about American politics.

Brian Seattle   August 27th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

I am completely baffled by some of these comments. How was Hillary cheated from victory? She earned fewer delegates based on votes cast, even if you do count the votes in Michigan and Florida. I think it would be disenfranchisement if Obama's nomination had been overruled since he did actually earn more delegates. You voted, I voted our votes were counted, delegates were proportioned based on the results of those votes.

Hillary has never been my favorite but I have to say she surprised me yesterday and made me proud. I realize some Clinton supporters are still upset but honestly, you're willing to vote for McCain, out of spite? Hillary's whole point last night was in a race that included the first Woman and the first African-American to make it this far there are no losers, unless you vote for McCain.

Hillary's #1 fan   August 27th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

After Hillary's speech, I will vote for Barack Obama.

I realized how stupid, childish, foolish & retard I am when I thought of voting McCain as a revenge. I deserve to die if I really vote for McCain.

No Way. No How. No McCain.

RuthieM   August 27th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

Look, 'Hillary supporters' who are and who have always been 'anti-Obama' folks, never would have supported Obama in the first place, even without Hillary Clinton.

Michael   August 27th, 2008 5:10 pm ET

It has become clear Obama will show unity at the convention.

Suppress any meanful support for Hillary, hide it from the TV cameras and the nation.

A sham roll call is will provide no catharsis.

But outside the convention center people are still free to speak and vote there mind. Forced unity is no unity.

Hillary made a strong case for voting the issues. Obama's actions make a strong case that the issues are just nice sounding ideas without honest and capable leadership. I find Obama sadley lacking in honesty or leadership.

Jay Meadows   August 27th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

Hillary gave a great speech. Why do Soledad and some of the other correspondents have to be so "picky" about the particular words she used to say she was backing Obama? Looks as if they are just trying to stir up doubt in the voters and cause trouble. Also, there are those of us who would like to hear speeches other than the ones CNN chooses for us to hear. I could do without ANY REMARKS from Leslie Sanchez and Glenn Beck and all the other negative pundits you have. Some of them couldn't or wouldn't say a positive thing about a Democrat if their lives depended upon it.
I think the Democrats have a great ticket–finally someone I can vote for instead of against. Go Obama and Biden!!!

Ali   August 27th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

Obama should be so lucky to have the Clintons on his side.
How cocky.

nancy   August 27th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

Hey guys. Thank you for your work. I will definitely vote for Mccain if Hillary doesn't get the nomination. I understand what Hillary said in her speech that we are in this with her not simply because of her, but also the people who don't have healthcare But, you have to listen, voting Obama would mean Hillary would not be able to become a president until 2018? who knows what is going to happen in the coming 8 years?? If Obama becomes the president, given his ability, i am sure people would quit voting for democratic after 4 years....and hillary's chance in 2018 might be affected by his incompetence!! Voting for mccain might not be ideal; at least, it will give hillary a chance in 2012. Also, this is the only way the dems will learn their lesson of forcing a candidate down our throat. Also, even though Hillary's policies might be close to Obama's than Mccain's, but I believe Obama is not going to deliver what he promised given his flip flopping record and his incompetence. With the old mccain, we still have hopes that Hillary would come clean up his mess after 4 years. Not only obama is an impotent jerk, he also stole the nomination...speaking of Bush like, Obama is more Bush like than Mccain!!! I have been a democrat since i start to understand politics, but now i am an independent. I will not donate a dollar to the party until they learn their lesson. For the people who have no health care, for hillary, we need to vote for Mccain!! That is the only way we will get health care in 4 years...instead of supporting the all-talk Obama!! Hillary 2012!!

Mark   August 27th, 2008 5:09 pm ET

"Hillary, I love you! For the first time in my life, I will be voting for a republican in November. Yes, McCain looks much better, capable, trustworthy, experienced, and honorable than Barack Obama. I will wait Hillary's run in 2012. McCain 2008."

Ha Ha Ha!!! Racist!

Jim Wade, Iowa   August 27th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

I keep hearing the republican Hillary fans say how Obama could use her experience...experience in what? Her experience in the Senate? She hasn't exactly been there that much longer than Obama. What other experience does she bring? Spousal? Because Obama already has a good wife.

And to anyone who thinks if Obama loses Hillary will win in 2012...you need to stop being ignorant. If Obama loses, Hillary will have no chance at running again, she will lose all Obama voters. Mark Warner will then be the 2012 nominee.

jj   August 27th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

The ticker question should be: "What did Michelle Obama's body language reveal last evening"?!

Kelby from Houston, TX   August 27th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

CNN is funny now. Examining body language? everyone who commented on that story said the same thing...ARE SERIOUS? yeah they are.

What?   August 27th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

"No way, no how, no McCain"

If voters like you (stuff is silly August 27th, 2008 4:38 pm ET), do the nobel thing and vote for Obama, if not, vote for anyone but McBush...even with that....he will WIN.

Vilsack: McCain chooses oil companies over American people
Tuesday, August 19th, 2008
Former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack speaks on a conference call discussing Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) opposition to bipartisan energy reform that eliminates tax breaks for oil companies. Vilsack says that this, and other moves have shown us that McCain has chosen the side of the oil companies over that of the American people (19:37).

This is such a shame.
The media nominated Obama.
My whole community is against him.
We're silent but believe me, there's more than 18 million people against Obama for many reasons

Arkell   August 27th, 2008 5:08 pm ET

To those "Democrats" that are voting for McSame, shame on you. I think Charles Barkley labled you correctly. To vote for someone that will put you deeper in debt, war and health, just because your candidate didn't win is insane. We call you closet Democrats.
I for one want a better life for my family and country.

Go Obama

Becky, Midwest   August 27th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

As a Hillary supporter, the verdict is still out on how I will vote. I have learned a few things though.

Hillary, you have grit! Your supporters will forever believe in you. You are a moderate, as are most people in this country. You have known to reach across the aisle. McCain. He has experience and he also has shown to work with the other party. Obama. Well, he has no accomplishments while in Congress. So, we just don't know.

I will be switching from the democratic party to independent. The DNC made a huge error in backing Obama and backstabbing Clinton. They must pay for that. Obama and Biden ticket is the most liberal the DNC has ever had. I think they will lose because of that.

Obama supporters will try to blame Clinton. But it is not Clinton's responsibility to win this for Obama. That lays squarely on his shoulders and it's time for him to step up to the plate and own that responsibility. His supporters have been very nasty to Clinton, as a woman, a Senator and a First Lady. She deserves better.

After eight long years of George W Bush, we really need a proven candidate to fix the problems Bush is leaving. I'm not ready to send in a rookie to do that job. We'll see how the next couple of months go.

Thank you Hillary for being so gracious and dignified at what must have been a very difficult thing to do. You are the better person.

abatoy   August 27th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

Hillary in 2016?

You don't think that Joe Biden might have something to say about that? You know, the guy with all the experience who brings so much to the ticket. You don't think that he might want to run in 2016?

Geesh, he has been on the job for less than a week, and already he has been thrown under the bus and Cheyney'd.

Gwen   August 27th, 2008 5:07 pm ET

Hillary was impressive last night and I was touched by her speech. Her die-hard "fans" who say they will vote for McCain are fools who are only hurting themselves.

Hillary would make an outstanding Attorney General, Secretary of State or Supreme Court Justice.

If only her whiny supporters would shut up.....

Al   August 27th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

I still wouldn't ever vote for Hillary. This only about her trying to save face in the wake of defeat.

Republicans Hate America   August 27th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

corey, NH   August 27th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

I will vote for Senator Obama and his vp choice Senator Biden with no question in my mind. However, Hillary Clinton will forever make me remember why I am so blessed to be a woman born in the United States of America.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   August 27th, 2008 5:06 pm ET

HILLARY WILL BE ON OBAMA'S CABINET, SHE WON'T BE A JUNIOR SENATOR. I HAD MY DOUBTS ABOUT VOTING FOR IF SHE SHOULD RUN AGAIN, BUT SHE WILL GET MY VOTE.

ramonita   August 27th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Hillary supporter,

Count me in, too. I will never vote for someone who has nothing but nothing that really counts, no experience, no political accomplisment, except of course fooling the naive, I will vote for McCain who has more guts than Obama ( The CHOSEN ONE ) will ever have. What has OBAMA done for this country? Absolutely ZERO, and DEmS want to elect him for PRESiDent? Obviously the American people are so unpatriotic to allow a now-nothing to lead this great nation of ours? Would send your children to school where the teachers have no special education to teach? And you want this upstart to become our leader? Let's not make a worse mistake than we already have with the Bushes!

Judgement to Lead- Obama and Biden   August 27th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Good point from Jorge-

Abraham Lincoln, usually called our greatest President, spent only two years in the House of Representatives. And I'm pretty sure Lincoln was President during a war- remember?

McCain's likely VP, Mitt Romney, only served as governor of a state for four years, and didn't even bother to run for re-election.

Obama08   August 27th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

From reading these blog comments it's pretty obvious that CNN has become the media for the disgruntled Clinton supporters. Seems the others have moved on!!!

Vincent   August 27th, 2008 5:05 pm ET

Fine, for all of you who wanted Hillary and have decided on McCain, why don't you just write in Hillary's name?

That would take care of two birds. One, you are showing your commitment to Hillary and two, you would not be voting for McCain which, in essence would allow your candidate a victory if McCain wins and is in it for only four years.

Francie - G'vl, SC   August 27th, 2008 5:04 pm ET

Hillary was very powerful, honest and brilliant in the delivery of her Convention speech.

She has now added "magnanimous" to her long list of credentials.

Obama08: White, 60, female   August 27th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Two fronts Obama has to fight:

1. the media's obsession with the Clintons and their desire to take the easy road by replaying attack ads and one liners and not explicitly reporting on what the candidates' actual platforms are. Then they repeat ad nauseum that Obama has to be more specific when his website and his speeches do contain very specific information and background.

2. The Republicans

I believe he can beat #2 but I am not so sure about #1 which is sad in a country that tries to claim it's the greatest democracy in the world.

Hopefully, CNN will actually broadcast all of the speeches instead of talking through them complaining and giving inane advice when the speaker on the stage is doind exactly what they are harping on. I wonder if they will provide the same advice to J. McCain.

PBS aand CSpan are the two sources that actually carries the speeches, unedited with no talking heads interrupting and screening what you watch.

dave g, minneapolis   August 27th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

BARR '08

EC   August 27th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

If Sen. Hillary Clinton's supporters don't rally behind Sen. Obama, then they have done Sen. Clinton the GREATEST INJUSTICE themselves!!! They can no longer blame Sen. Obama for their destruction.

Because if Sen. Obama loses this election, Sen. Clinton will NEVER win the Presidency. Her supporters will have destroyed every possible chances of a political future. NO ONE wants to deal with this FACT. Everyone needs to realize. This is NOT about Sen. Obama nor Sen. Clinton, this election is about our FUTURE!!! We need to stop fussing and taking every little thing personally because this is BIGGER than you or me.

This is about ALL OF US, THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN, OUR MILITARY AND OUR ECONOMY!!!

The DEMOCRATIC PARTY is a team, it's NOT Sen. Obama or Sen. Clinton. WE need to stop acting and talking like this is all about ME or YOU. Are you BETTER OFF than you were 10 years ago? Dah...

Come on people, let's all cool out and start working together rather than tearing each other down. We have a common purpose that binds us. We ALL want a better quality of "life", better healthcare, better education for our children, an END to an UNNECESSARY WAR, better economy, etc.

I listened to Sen. Clinton's speech and realized that I AM A TRUE DEMOCRAT AND I WILL NEVER GIVE MY VOTE TO THE REPUBLICANS JUST BECAUSE MY "favorite" team player did not win the nomination.

THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT SEN. CLINTON OR SEN. OBAMA, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE FUTURE OF EVERY FAMILY IN THIS COUNTRY WHO IS STRUGGLING WITH A FAILING ECONOMY AND WORRYING ABOUT THEIR SONS OR DAUGHTERS OVER IN IRAQ. IT'S ABOUT FAMILIES STRUGGLING TO PUT FOOD ON THE TABLE OR GAS IN THE CAR. IT'S ABOUT PRAYING "NOT" TO GET SICK BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE HEALTHCARE!!!

I'M PROUD TO BE A DEMOCRAT...

I'M PROUD TO STAND WITH ALL MY FELLOW DEMOCRATS...

i'M PROUD TO STAND WITH BOTH SEN. OBAMA and SEN CLINTON...

AND I WILL NEVER BETRAY MY LOYALTY TO THE PARTY.

JJ   August 27th, 2008 5:03 pm ET

we will not be supporting Obama. Sorry Ms. Clinton we are with the 27% who choose to vote for a man with more experience. And, we do not owe any loyalty to the party that betrayed her. You made you bed democratic party now "lie" in it.

Peggy   August 27th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

To all the Hillary supporters who feel deep diasppointment. What Hillary did was remarkable. Please don't destroy it with bitterness or hate. She may never be president but then there is Chelsea.
I love Hillary too but I am supporting Obama. It is imperative that we rally around him to bring the Democratic party back to greatness. It is not only o.k to vote for Obama. It is the right thing to do. if Obama wins, Hillary also wins. Trust me I know what I am talking about. In the end we all win.

Stop the Drama   August 27th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

I still don't understand what Obama took from her. People came out and voted.

Stold her turn you mean?? I'm sorry but to all of you that think that it's her turn, people came out and voted. I was a Clinton supporter, my priorities have changed. I heard the speeches and made a decision.

The fact is Obama is bringing out those people that would not normally vote, the young vote and college educated individuals (at least in Texas). She was running a traditional campaign and He ran an non traditional campaign. He used the internet to raise money to organize people and get donors. He out smarted her!

Marie   August 27th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

She said all the right things. If the arrogant Obama supporters cannot give her credit for being strong, capable, knowledgeable and experienced, then they don't have their eyes or ears open. To say they don't need her is a joke. They will not win without the majority of her supporters on board. If they could, do you think she would have been given such a prominent spot at the convention? It is why Michelle praised her in her own speech. They are trying to win people over because at least they are smart enough to know that they have to. Their poll numbers have gone down! I think Hillary totally rose to the occasion. I still believe Hillary would have been the best candidate for POTUS, and that speech showed what a great one she would make.

TheTruthHurts   August 27th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

If Obama loses, it is his fault. That would have been the case regardless. It's his responsbility to unite the party if he wants to win. If it doesn't happen, it's his fault. That's what it means to be the standard bearer and the head of the ticket. Likewise, Clinton is responsible when her campaign is unsuccessful. It doesn't mean that many forces didn't contribute to success or failure, just that the candidates job is to plan and overcome obstacles.

Clinton has been gracious, concillatory and gave the best speech of her entire life last night. She's done what she could. Barack has to close the deal, not with Hillary supporters, but with AMERICANS. If he doesn't, he won't get the job.

Question is, will we do OUR part?

Charlie in Maine   August 27th, 2008 5:01 pm ET

You Puma people are missing the big picture. I love Hillary and she would have been an excellent President.... but she did not win. And now you honor her couragous campaign by supporting someone who wants to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, stay in Iraq for 100 years, sings songs about bombing Iran and thinks Clarence Thomas is a great justice.

My mom use to call your type of behavior "cutting off your nose to spite your face".

Do you really think our hero Hillary wants to spnd her next years iin the Senate putting up with more from Bushy McSame? ......

no way no how no McCain.

Paul Revere   August 27th, 2008 5:01 pm ET

She did the best she could, this is POLITICS, right?

And as for 'Hillary Supporter now for McCain': The sad fact is that the better candidate won, pure + simple. Hillary would have won if she ran a better campaign, that's something you Hillary supporters fail to admit.

AND the fact that she got desperate and used the kitchen sink strategy against Obama (who I might add showed at least a little respect not to dig up ALL of HER AND BILL'S DIRTY LAUNDRY) during the campaign, she painted herself into the corner and off the ticket.

FYI, I voted for Bill Clinton twice (and glad I did) as well as voted Hillary into the Senate (and glad I voted then) She broke the rules with FLA/MICH and people claim she's a victim.

She runs with the big dogs and always has done, Hillary's no little Bo Peep, she's tough as nails and a great politician, it just wasn't in the cards for her this time. She hasn't been a Senator for 35 years, hasn't been in the PENN/ARK/ILL/NY state senate, for 35 years. She shared the white house with the President of the United States for 8 years.

Get over it.

SOUTHERN HOTTIE   August 27th, 2008 5:01 pm ET

I am so saddened when I realize that the only reason the hold-outs for Hillary are not voting for Barack is because they are closeted bigots and racists. Hillary is voting for Barack. If you were her supporter, why aren't you doing the same?

2008 in America and racism is still going strong.

Hiding behind the "he has no experience" is a bunch of bull. Clinton, Kennedy, and even BUSH–none of them had experience.

So what is the logical reason for not voting for Barack Obama?

RACISM!!

So sad. I hope you hold-outs don't have children because all you would be teaching them is your HATRED.

Shame on all of you voting for McCain simply because a Bi-Racial man is poised to be our next president.

No worries though.

No weapon formed against HOPE shall prosper.

We can only pray the next primary will be more fair and just. At least the Republicians know how to run a primary. This was a disaster. To all of these people who keep putting Obama down, you do realized he won because people voted for him. It's okay if you don't agree with him or won't even vote for him, but, why do you have to treat him as though he is dumb. Because I don't think anyone who makes it to where he is at his age could really be considered dumb. McCain wants us to send Georgia a billion dollars are you prepared to do that. Because I will stop filing taxes and paying taxes if they do that. Think it has something to do with his foreign policy advisor being Georgia's foreign lobbyist. Now we see what is taken away from us with the lobbyist for the American companies what do you think is promised to the foreign nations. Wake up people.

People who say "McCain 2008" and claim to be Hillary supporters disrespect her and everything she stands for, everything she has fought for, and everything she believes in. People who say "McCain 2008 – Hillary 2012" do not care about the families and the children who will need healthcare between 2008 and 2012. They do not care about the people who will die in McCain's wars, as people have died in Bush's wars. They do not care about the people who will lose their jobs and their homes in that four year period.

In other words, people who say "McCain 2008" are Republicans. There is no place for shortsighted hatred and a thirst for vengeance in the Democratic Party, that is the drug that the Republicans peddle.

This is indeed a sad moment for our country. If nothing else, last night Hillary Clinton showed why she won so many votes. She has style, substance, guts, and she showed a lot of character by this speech.

I will forever be sad, and angry that this better candidate was railroaded right out of town. Now we know why Obama is so intimidated by her. And why Michelle is way out of her league.

Go HIllary! You held your head high. Continue to do so. I'm not sure how I will vote yet. But it was a hell of night watching you.

NoMcSame   August 27th, 2008 4:58 pm ET

Look out republicans, it's on now. Me and my brothers can fight like dogs but we are still brothers, but when an outsider get into it we come together and tare him apart. That is what is going to happen to the republicans now. McSame as bush is going down with his sorry party and FOX news. We are going to run them out of town. Obama will give them the last seat in the back of the press room because the front of the room is for real reporters.
Mcsame and his plastic wife can go some where and dry up for all I care.

The only thing worse than not unifying the party is trying to trick people into thinking that you are unifying the party. O Wait, that is what all politicians do any way.

Sister Marie   August 27th, 2008 4:58 pm ET

If Hillary would have won the nomination, I would vote for her in the general election. But, for all you people who supported her and now are planning to vote for a man who will continue indefinitely the war in Iraq, I just want to remind you: If your disloyalty results in the loss of this election, Don't even think about relying on my support or the support of millions of loyal Democrats!

One Nation under God   August 27th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

this is why i will support OBAMA
because he is not perfect but he will be better off for me

All politicians flip flop. None are 100% trust-worthy. A politician will say/do whatever it takes to get elected and keep their position…that's the nature of the job. They do this by pandering to whoever can impact the security of their position at any given time. One week it could be Hispanics, the next blacks, the next conservatives…you get the picture. Why do you think they never give a direct answer to a question, but rather talk for 10 minutes about nothing in response to a question? If you have put your faith in Obama or McCain, then you are bound for disappointment. They will betray you at some point, guaranteed. Your job is to determine who will be able to stay within your acceptable betrayal threshold for 8 possible years.

MD in GA   August 27th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

For those of you who think electing Senator McCain and then waiting until 2012 to elect Hillary Clinton is a good idea, remember this. She will never get elected without the African American vote. Not in this country. If Obama loses, she and Bill will be blamed for it and she will NEVER get a majority vote from AA's. Not in 2012, not ever...

Obama's loss will be her loss.

CauseNEffect   August 27th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Hillary was the better candidate? Alright, take the DNC and Obama gripes out of the picture for a moment, PUMAs, just drop it:

Hillary had a TON of staff infighting and couldn't even bring them all together, she stuck by an adulterous husband instead of being a strong women and dropping him like he was hot, she was overconfident, and she ran a very negative campaign (even if Obama supporters were more negative than Hillary supporters during the primaries... now it's the Hillary supporters that seem to be gripers). She simply did not do a good job. Period. She was not entitled.

Obama just did better. Give it up.

This election has turned out to become a circus!! Why did Hillary have to release her delegates to him?

New Yorker   August 27th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Republicans should apologize for what? Protecting the country from more attacks? The Democrats should apologize for Bill Clinton's adultery and for nominating a candidate who would furthr endanger our sovereignity as they have in the past.

RG   August 27th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

Hillary has been the best thing to come along for the Republican Party in a long time. I never thought I would ever say that. Thanks to Hillary and her "supporters", the Republicans will be keeping the White House. In 2010, we will make a huge comeback in Congress once people realize its the Democratic congress which is causing problems.

Georgine Hynes   August 27th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

I think everyone, pundits, anchors, and body language experts should stop telling the public what they think somone meant, will do, or how all this will turn out. Just report the news, I am sick of all the entertainment gossip from reporters who should do just that, report.
I don't care what they think, I will form my own opinions after they report the facts.

By her releasing her delegates I will not vote for Obama. Why does the rules have to change because of him? If he didn't have enough delegates to win he shouldn't be the nominee!!!

Carol, Michigan   August 27th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Hillary you made the GOP trolls scared. I'll vote for Obama 2008, you in 2012 or 2016.

Hopefully you'll be the secretary of state until then'

That should be the theme for the Republican Convention --

AN APOLOGY TO AMERICA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Repubs have messed us up ROYALLY in practically every way they could. The economy (jobs, housing, GDP, possible stagflation), energy (runaway prices, no energy policy), deficits (staggering), totally stupid war in Iraq, strained relations with allies and emboldened enemies, increased disrespect and hatred of America, and last but not least, the unforgivable abuse (shredding) of our Constitution. These guys should live forever in infamy!

That, coupled with the emergence of the best leader I have seen in my adult life, has me fired up as never before. This is my 9th presidential election and I have never volunteered or donated more than a token amount.

Obama/Biden '08 – for the sake of our nation!

I am glad her and Bill are going home!

mel from Ohio   August 27th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

I have regained some respect for Hillary. I was once a supporter of hers and Bill's but as they got nastier and nastier during the primaries, I lost all respect for them. I am pleased that she has gotten over herself and moved forward. Wish Bill would do the same!!!

NUNNYA   August 27th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Gee you would think with all these so called "supporters" she'd have her debt paid off by now.

Lyle   August 27th, 2008 4:52 pm ET

Mr. Obama is a tainted nominee. He is flawed, unqualified and not ready, by any stretch of the imagination, to be President. Mrs. Clinton would have been the logical choice as she clearly would have easily won against Mr. McCain in November and could have stepped in and taken charge immediately, which is what America needs.

As it stands now, there are lingering concerns about Mr. Obama and his poll numbers continue to spiral downward. The Clintons are intelligent, seasoned politicians who love America and it is, no doubt, difficult for them to support Mr. Obama, knowing that he is wrong for America and will lose the general election. The Clintons love what the Democratic Party stands for and would love to see the party succeed in regaining the White House but they know that, regardless of what they or anyone thinks of Mr. Obama, he is simply unelectable.

Mr. Obama’s supporters have their hearts in the right place but Mr. Obama is way too liberal for the United States and he will not be elected. With Mrs. Clinton out of the running, America has been given a choice between a Republican nominee who has what it takes to lead this nation or a Democratic nominee who does not. This is not rocket science, and the choice is clear.

The GOP was just hoping and hoping HilBill would get the nomination. They have a whole archive of dirt ready to blast her. That's why a lot of the GOP anfd the whole right wing talk show pundits were telling folks late in the primary to cross over and vote for HilBill. They knew they could put her down just like Kerry.

They gotta get creative to get dirt on Obama, other than the dust HilBill gave them.

Obama supporter and a woman   August 27th, 2008 4:50 pm ET

Hillary did all Americans particularly women proud last night. Time to get busy now getting our country back on track. To her supporters who may still have reservations, please think about what Senator Clinton asked last night. Were you in this for her? or for our country and the millons of Americans who have lost their homes, lost their jobs, can't send their children to college, don't have health insurance. Senator Obama and she have the same position on the economy, the environment, and health care and he'll get it done. If you don't vote for Senator Obama, you are placing a vote for John McCain and a Repulican Party who have placed this country in the worst shape in over 20 years and will continue to do so. Ask yourself also if you are prepared to have our rights reversed., because you can count on that!

Hillary supporter now for McCain   August 27th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

I plan to vote for McCain for the following reasons:

Senator Clinton should be the democratic nominee, not an inexperienced, egotistical product of the DNC, who will end up being an even larger disaster than Bush.

And Biden has a bad history of plagiarizing. Wow, what a choice!

The DNC SHOULD NOT HAVE THE POWER to pick a candidate. We, the people, should have that right!

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   August 27th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

It is good that she acknowledges that there was a long fight to the nomination. I hope that she does all she can to convince her supporters that she really wants Obama to win no matter what she really feels. She'll have another chance to run. I feel that she could make a good run for it in 2016.

JJ   August 27th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Sen. Clinton, Thank you for stepping up to the plate and becoming the true leader you are!

Desmond Sequeira   August 27th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Congratulations, Hilary Clinton. She finally did the right thing and incredibly well too. It had to be difficult to finally concede and so the manner was all the more generous. Just wish it had not been left so long.
Now, if only all those delegates of hers would muster the same spirit of unity to rise above their resentment, the USA will have a truly great President

Shay   August 27th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

HRC did the right thing. It was her campaign matters and Bill that caused her not to win. Barack Obama's team was on point and had strategically done their homework. The results was a win for Barack Obama. Nothing was stolen from HRC, the better camp got the victory.

Walter Greason   August 27th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Obama-Junkie, IL   August 27th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

Hillary wasted her time and money (and alot of her supporters money) running for president. Hillary is a continuing fighter who would make an excellent Supreme Court Justice (more specifically Chief Justice)!

That way Hillary would always fight for the American people (20+ years) without being tied down to a 4 to 8 year term.

TonyNJHC   August 27th, 2008 4:46 pm ET

Texas Voter   August 27th, 2008 4:46 pm ET

I felt as if her speech was supportive but not a mandate for Obama support. I would have liked to have heard a statement such as:

"He is the man I would call on at 3:00am" She could have had fun with the man/women bit of it.

or

"I fought a good fight but came up short and because we have a democratic process Obama is our winner and I urge every last Hillary supporter to become a Obama supporter ..."

Honestly, we need you 18 million Hillary supporters if we want to be in the White House in January.

JM from SC   August 27th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

Now, she can be considered as Obama's running mate because this means that she has officially dropped out of the race. However, it is too late because the vetting for vp is over. I hope the people that are pretending they don't understand why she was not selected will get a better understanding. Until you release you delegates, you are actually still in the race.

GEORGE BUSH CAN RETIRE NOW WITHOUT A LEGACY.

hillary's speech was dynamic, honest and her body language conveyed honesty and sincerity.

We must do this   August 27th, 2008 4:45 pm ET

I appreciate her doing this. It's time to fix our country, and we can't do that with John McCain, We really can't. The man has good intentions and I respect his service to our country, but the Republican formula did not work for the past 8 years – why does anyone think it could work now?

Now we have a beautiful opportunity to put a Democrat in office and make things better for all of us. Let's not allow the Republicans to divide us – it's their only shot at winning this thing. Let's unite, stay united, and throw the bums out on the street – show them how a country SHOULD be run.

When he get's his hat handed to him, all of the obamabots will have to say is: "Yes, you told us so."

the puppeteers at the top of the DNC continue their strategy to beat the better candidate into submission. the delegates are a complete dog and pony show now, we already saw an earlier story today that they all talked in their back room deals to decide who would vote for whom, to give an illusion of unity. sounds to me like a snub to the people who voted for hillary, who at this point would still be the better candidate.

Leaders of the Democratic Party, including the Obama camp, must have been pulling out their hair after watching Hillary's amazing speech and the electrifying reception she received. Hillary rocks! As a Hillary supporter, I watched her speech with tears rolling from my eyes. Tears not only of appreciation of her speech but tears of deep regret for losing the opportunity to make her our next president. Through her speech, she showed friends and foes alike how a brilliant and capable president she would have become for this great nation. The injustice that the democratic party committed against Hillary and her supporters will never be forgotten. Hillary, I love you! For the first time in my life, I will be voting for a republican in November. Yes, McCain looks much better, capable, trustworthy, experienced, and honorable than Barack Obama. I will wait Hillary's run in 2012. McCain 2008. Hillary 2012/2016.
