Delegates will hold a roll call vote Wednesday.
Delegates will hold a roll call vote Wednesday.

DENVER (CNN) — Barack Obama’s campaign said Wednesday morning – hours before the Democratic convention was slated to make the Illinois senator its presidential nominee – that the details of a potentially contentious roll call had finally been hammered out after weeks of discussion with aides to Hillary Clinton.

The New York senator’s supporters had successfully pressed for her name to be placed in nomination in Denver, and party leaders had feared that the evening vote would make for a crippling public show of divisiveness if large numbers of delegates refused to back Obama.

But on a Wednesday morning conference call with reporters, campaign officials said that a joint statement from the Obama and Clinton campaigns laying out the roll call process had been sent to state delegation chairs Tuesday night.

Vote tally sheets have been given to the state chairs, who will distribute them to the members of their delegations. They are reviewing them at state delegation breakfasts in Denver this morning

Listen: Officials lay out roll call details on a morning conference call

From about 5 to 7 p.m. ET – 3 to 5 p.m. MT – the official party roll call will take place. First, a speaker will nominate Clinton, then another will nominate Obama. Two people will second Clinton’s nomination, and three will do the same for Obama. The office of the Democratic National Committee’s secretary will collect the tally sheets, and roughly half an hour of speeches will be followed by a state roll call. After its completion, each candidate’s total will be announced by the state chairs.

But officials did not guarantee that the roll call would continue until it was completed. Sources have told CNN that at some point, Clinton herself may cut off the roll call and move to nominate Obama by acclamation.

Both the Clinton and Obama campaigns are expected to release a joint statement shortly with names of the nominators and seconds.

This is a sham and shame on the Party leaders who are "producing" this show. Because that is all this role call is minus a hollywood director. This whole DNC is one giant waste of time and money. And gee…who is paying for it???

The nominee has been picked. Why do we need 4 days of partys and Blah blah blah speeches and a roll call where FI and MI have been ordered how to vote (and who know what other states). So far this convention has done little (I won't take away from Michelle's and Hillary's contribution) for Obama.

The role call will just leave a sour taste in many mouths, mine – not because of hillary (couldn't care less) but because it is a complete and utter waste of "let's see how dean flexed his muscles" time and money.

Hello DNC !!!! – the Pubs may well take this office. We need to be talking about the issues. What we plan to do – in specifics!!

Enough partying on our dimes and get to work!!!!

News Flash….has anyone thought that Hilary DID NOT want the VP spot?

I can't say I would blame her. I'm a OBAMA supporter and I'm sure she will have a position in his administration somewhere!

AM in LA   August 27th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

Why is it that Obama suporters feel the need to attack HIllary in their posts of support for Obama, all the while calling people who don't step in line "sore losers"?

One of the (MANY) things I feel doomed the Bush Presidency is the fact that he only surrounded hmself with people who agreed with him. Only "Yes People". Any thought or attempt to go against something Bush said and you were called a traitor, un-American, un-patritotic, and lots of other names.

If Obama is the strong canndidate his supporters believe he is — then LISTEN to us, and respect or POV! Don't be sore winners and whine about the fact that "Hillary lost". Yes, we know this, but it doesn't change the fact that we still feel the way we do — and think the way we think. Thinking isn't agreeing or disagreeing…
If Obama is to be the great President who you believe he will be…. you and he must learn to listen to different opinions without calling the people racists, or idiots, or bitter… or whatever other names you can think to shout in anger.
Explain why you feel the way you do, listen to why we feel the way we do — it's called diplomacy. If you truly are Obama supporters, you will learn that word well — and early!
We don't need another 4 years of narcissitic, one sided governing. After all, if you believe in your hearts what you claim, you will be able to support it with words that are spoken with patience, intelligence, and wisdom. Not just anger, resentment, and a lack of understanding.

At this point, your angry words only make you look more like the mindless sheep you are.

In response to Roll Call

Did you hear what Hilary said? She wants us to vote for Obama. Get over your stubborn attitude and vote for Obama. If McCain wins Hilary won't get anything done

Staceyinillinois   August 27th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

Hillary did not drop out of the race, after she was cheated she suspended her campaign. I hope she shakes up the crowd tonight during roll call and becomes the nominee with the most votes and wins!!!!!!! Hillary 2008 for President

I agree with Carolina. The disunity issue is being overblown by talking heads trying to justify the expense of sending them to Denver for a week. Gov. Schweitzer was one of the best speakers yesterday, and his speech was delivered in the all-important 10p.m. hour, but few TV viewers heard it because Chris, Keith, Wolf, Anderson, and the others wouldn't shut up. Why is every talking head from each news division in Denver? I think they could just as easily listen to themselves talk in NY. What happened to the good ol' days when you had an anchor and an analyst in the skybox and a reporter on the floor. CNN has its entire election team on the floor of the convention. I'm half expecting to turn on the TV and see Wolf and Anderson wearing funny hats. Let the viewers watch the convention and judge for themselves. Analyze before, analyze after, but get out of the way of the event you are there to cover.

Willy   August 27th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

More suppresion from the DNC Hillary voters. Make evey vote count unless it's a democrat taking it away from another democrat.

Peggy   August 27th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

The Obama camp can't allow a full roll call with Hillary's name in nomination because she might (and should) win! I am a Hillary supporter who might vote for McCain. It has nothing to do with the issues and everything to do with character, experience, arrogance and lack of respect.

Pick Me! Pick Me!   August 27th, 2008 3:32 pm ET

So we are running on the experience soap box.

How about this one:

All of those crying about experience and how McCain has it and Obama doesn't. I guess I would have to remind you that G.W. Bush had "experience" in bringing down a baseball team he owned and YOU voted for him for president.

Now I voted for McCain back in 2000 but YOU thought that Jr. had better experience.

I guess that means I was/am an informed voter and you?

Obama turned down a revote for Fl. and Mi. and now he is trying to control the Dems. nominating roll call process that has gone on for years. What else are you going to let him control? I think we have pandered to Obama enough. We aren't going to get our country back with this man. He wants to control everything. ENOUGH. VOTE McCain!

andrew   August 27th, 2008 3:13 pm ET

I have a problem with Obama supporters who say get over it. I have a problem trusting Obama and instead of explaining Obamas positions or what specific changes he wants I am told to get over it. I want details on how he is going to fix the economy. thats all I want to know.

Bully dog you aren’t well informed are you bully dog. Bully dog what is obama platform, oh ya change, that explains biden, change. Chris, Mom from IL   August 27th, 2008 2:49 pm ET

To anyone who supported Hillary but would now go to McCain, apparently you didn't support the issues that Hillary stood for, which are the mirror images of Barack's. In other words, if you were only voting for her because she was a white woman, but agree with McCains positions, you should vote Republican anyway. I myself support the positions of Hillary and Barack, democratic positions and will be voting for Barack Obama.

Michael   August 27th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

I am so sick and tired of the media's obsession with the imagined internal psychodrama of a handful of Clinton supporters. And I have absolutely zero interest in whether Bill Clinton is now feeling sufficiently warm and fuzzy inside. We're in the midst of the most serious financial crisis we've faced since the Great Depression; we're still fighting two wars and losing at least one of them; our nation's infant mortality rate is higher than Cuba's; our schools and transportation systems are crumbling; and Obama and McCain actually have vastly different plans for how to approach these very serious problems. But we're not talking about those policy differences because the press is only interested in whether Clinton's delegates are feeling the love. Wake up people! This is an election for the presidency of the United States, not an episode of Big Brother.

joe   August 27th, 2008 2:48 pm ET

all this talk about you have to vote for one person cuz you DON'T LIKE the other, wow what a mentality!!!! how about hearing EXACTLY what the person you want in office has to offer and HOW they are planning on getting it done… don't get me wrong i at this time favoring obama but lets hear what they have to say over the issues. thats the way it use to be and should be. other countries laugh at us because our politicians can't stay on subject due to all the dirt throwing they do these days…… there ya go why have elections? when its time for elections get your canidates all together put them in a mud fighting ring and last man standing is the winner!!!! god knows they would be getting the same work done as they are right now…..

I don't know if this information is correct – but I read (and can't remember where) that Hillary Clinton was never vetted for the Vice Presidency because she did not want the job. I also heard this on MSNBC.

Mark   August 27th, 2008 2:43 pm ET

I read a lot of these posts, and I see a pattern here. Most of these posts fall into two categories: The angry Hillary supporter who will now vote for McCain- who I actually suspect are just Republicans trying to create division amongst Democrats, and Obama supporters defending Obama. Over and over again, I see the PUMA posts (the angry Hillary supporters) which offer nothing but unfounded speculation and vitriol mixed with occasional racism and total misinformation. In the Obama supporter posts, I see lots of facts and logic, along with some good efforts to set the record straight about Obama. I have come to the conclusion that the PUMA posters are never going to listen to reason. Of course, most of them are Republican posers, so they don't really want to hear reason- they just want to stir up trouble. My conclusion- you PUMA people are idiots, and you don't deserve to vote. Of course, this is a democracy and you have the right to vote, but idiots like you give democracy a bad name.

BK   August 27th, 2008 2:38 pm ET

Test the Prez,
The town hall meetings and debates that Obama keeps hiding from would have told you that, only Obama doesn't want you to know he is inexperienced and an empty suit. Obama loses points every time he talks on his own. Pay attention.

Rob   August 27th, 2008 2:38 pm ET

Hillary die hards: Can anyone give me one reason to vote for McCain over Obama if I voted for Hillary in the primary? Seriously. One good reason. Hillary was a victim of sexism. Okay, so I'll vote for McCain, because he's such an ardent supporter of womens' rights? Obama has too little experience. Okay, so I'll support McCain who has shown very poor judgement regarding the economy, national security, etc.

Sooner in Nebraska   August 27th, 2008 2:38 pm ET

To all of the Hillary supporters out there….you have a wonderful candidate. I am sure that she would have made a tremendous president. I truely believe that your support of her was justified. However, it is time to quash any differences that we have and unite against the candidate of politics-as-usual and crony-ism. No matter what your differences are with Obama, I'm sure you would admit that he is a much better choice than Dubya Part II (John McCain.)

I think you are sooo right . But now the Clintons FINALLY see what the country has had to deal with because of " HAND OUT " mentality that says we need to step back so certain people can TAKE what they what from us .

Wasn't Michelles line " Barak and I share the same values " a line of HILLARY'S ? The reason Barak didn't pick Hillary is because MICHELLE is jealous of her and hates her .

Here is the answer folks:

We should vote like they do on "Showtime at the Apollo." Have Howard Dean standing in the middle flanked by Obama and Hillary. Dean should place his hand over each one's head and the crowd should applaud. The loudest one wins and there is your next president!

From my six year old.

adam   August 27th, 2008 2:34 pm ET

Hilary sent me this today. I find it interesting that those who claim to have supported her are so willing to call her speech disengenuis. Clinton knows what is important; economy, jobs, energy, foreign policy, the Supreme Court and accessible health care. She knows McCain can't be trusted to act responsibly in these vital issues.

Dear Adam,

Standing on that stage tonight in front of 20,000 Democrats unified behind Senator Obama, I saw a bright future for America. I saw millions of people across the country working as one to elect the next Democratic President. I saw a new President and a new Congress giving a voice to the voiceless. I saw America, the land of endless potential, regaining its role as a leader in the world.

I couldn't be prouder of our party, of our nominee, and of all the work you and I have done together over the course of this campaign on behalf of the American people.

I knew that as I stood in front of that podium, I wasn't alone. I had you, and everyone who has supported me, standing right up there with me. And that means the world to me.

Thank you again for everything you've done. Now let's get to work helping elect Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and all of our great Democratic candidates!

Sincerely,
Hillary

geen   August 27th, 2008 2:34 pm ET

after her speech last night, does anyone doubt that, regardless of the praise she received from the media (except from the pretend journalists at fox pseudo-news) Clinton is in this fiasco for herself…I mean…for all it is worth, if she is sincere about supporting the winner–obama–why not just nominate the other losers…dodd, kucinich, richardson….hell, even edwards who seemed to take a page out of Bill's book..put 'em all in nomination!!! let's face it. Hillary and Bill are doing everthing to make this THEIR convention. and, even though most of the civilized world knows that Bill will speak about himself tonight and of how much he likes himself and of how much EVERYONE else should like him, we can only hope that he doesn't repeat his act at the 1988 convention when he put nearly all of those in attendance to sleep–that is, of the ones who didn't just walk out….

Marc   August 27th, 2008 2:33 pm ET

Hey Joan,

Hillary ran a poor campaign at best and lost as a result.
She/you has got NO ONE to blame but herself and the staff
she put together. Get over yourself! You'll never forgive or forget.
Give me a break! You'll only end up spiting yourself.

Andy   August 27th, 2008 2:33 pm ET

I too watched on CSPAN. Did you catch t he Gov. from Montana. What a great speech. Several good jabs at McCain. Not a bunch of negative comments interpreting what every word meant or saying that the real story was what was NOT said. If there isn't contention, then will people turn to CNN, no. So…guess what. I found a better place that is fair and not so bias.

Of course, then there is Hannity & Combs! Don't even get me started.

Rob   August 27th, 2008 2:32 pm ET

Get over it people. Hillary and the Clinton machine lost. Hillary was a strong candidate, but her campaign underestimated the Obama campaign. Obama did not make the rules with regards to MI & FL. This isn't the first time the Dems have had caucases so quite whining. Hillary Clinton will have more opportunity to serve in a high profile role under an Obama administration than for McCain.

Not supporting BO anymore   August 27th, 2008 2:32 pm ET

Don't blame Hillary, the Clintons, the PUMAs or Hillary supporters anymore – you people chose the weaker candidate. If the DEMs lose in November you only have to look into the mirror and criticize yourself. Don't call onto others to wake up when you are the ones who supported the weaker candidate who did not "win" the nomination. You only have yourself to blame and your the ones who need to wake up and grow up. This is a free country and everyone owns their own vote. I for one feels that the country is safer and better in McCain's hands and it's my vote – again look at yourselves first before criticizing others.

PUMA forever !   August 27th, 2008 2:31 pm ET

PUMA's UNITE !!!! Overthrow Obama at the convention- if enough delegates for her, she can still be the nominee !

DO NOT GIVE UP!!!! PUMA forever! Hillary or McCain in 08 – NEVER OBAMA !

Ever hear of divide and conquer? Amazing–you have the first viable female candidate and the first viable African American candidate duke it out on the democratic side while the all male all white all the time republicans get a free ride. The fact is we will need on another (Blacks and women) if we are to ever to see our candidate in the Oval Office. Let's be civil at least.

Dean   August 27th, 2008 2:30 pm ET

First, for all the ignorant McCain trolls, the Democratic Party *IS* united behind Obama/Biden…any whiners still complaining that Hillary should get the nomination are nothing more than cultists; they aren't real Democrats, and we KNOW it. Secondly, we've known the delegate counts since June, and we know that delegates are bound to voting for their candidate according to their State party rules UNLESS THEIR CANDIDATE RELEASES THEM TO DO OTHERWISE…so stop trying to paint this to be drama cleaving the Democratic Party, because it ISN'T…it's the party following the rules, which is something that we've had many years of experience seeing that the GOP DOESN'T do…Democrats are law-abiding citizens.

And I agree with the comments about CNN's coverage–or lack thereof–of the Democratic Convention. Your talking heads would do far better to zip it and listen to what's being said at the podium, instead of doing a second-rate talk-show from the floor, "analyzing" what's not even said is a poor substitute for what you're missing while your collective lips are flapping, and I for one am angry that CNN seems to be giving more time to McCain's campaign during the Democratic Convention than to the Democrats themselves. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves for your p*ss-poor job, and you had better be giving lots of time to the Obama-Biden campaign to do the same during the GOP convention next week. Your coverage is inexcusably bad, and since I'm quite capable of doing my own analysis instead of having GOP operatives providing their own bias, I will be watching the rest of the Democratic Convention UNFILTERED on C-SPAN.

JDC // Ohio   August 27th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

Do the right thing DNC!

No one can veer me to vote for Obama except Obama. And he still has not made his case yet. All he does is responde to what McCain is saying about him. Great defense Obama, but when can I see your Offense?
I would like Obama to tell the people what he has done for America durring his short time in the senate. From what I've heard from many who live in Illinoise, "Obama did nothing for my state".
Too many un-answered questions from the short term Jr. Senator.

CNN must be salivating at the prospect of stirring up more discord for ratings.

Joe Cheesehead, WI   August 27th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

Judgment will always tramp expedience any day.

Two examples:
Bill Clinton 1992 an unknown governor from a SMALL state of Arkansas with executive experience.
George W Bush 2000 an unknown governor from a BIG state of Texas, with a household name and executive experience.

You think both their presidencies would produce similar results? Not quite. Why you ask? The answer is plain and simple the gray matter between the ears counts for everything. One person can’t govern a nation but it’s the people they surround themselves with that matter the most. Obama keeps showing that he’s firing on all cylinders but for McCain….well I do honor out veterans, POWs and senior citizens but I don’t want a story teller in our WH.

Rushton   August 27th, 2008 2:27 pm ET

CNN you all need to show ALL that's going on!!!!!! CSPAN has gotten so many new ratings because you all can't seem to show the convention for the commentators. I am disappointed in CNN. I tune in daily for all the news and action but this is a mess!!! I hope you all learn from this convention coverage and in four years you all do a better job. Until then CSPAN will be on all the TV's in my home and thousands of others.

Now about Hillary, she needs to get over it. Everyone see's through her and true motives. 2012 is not looking good for her in my eyes so she needs to focuse on the present and help get this country going in the right direction. She can contribute so much to Obamas staff if she just get over herself. Has her anger for the White House blinded her to the point she is willing to sit back and let this country go to the dogs just because her feelings are hurt? She is worst off then I thought.

Choice is simple: Democrat or Republican? I changed my affiliation from republican to democrat in order to vote democrat this time around. BUT, the media isn't interested in talking about people like me. Instead they want to stir up you life-long democrats who can't seem to unite. Shame on all of you. If you're a democrat who is going to vote republican, have the decency to do what I did; change your affiliation to republican. That way you'll be able to hide your tears when McBush wins the presidency.

True HRC supporters are smart enough to know that the answer to the question is democrat. All the "angry supporters" are Rush Limbaugh republicans trying to split the party. I'm surprised you democrats are smarter than that!

Sen. Clinton absolutely deserves a full roll call; was it not so for Howard Dean when he lost to Kerry? So then I ask, why not the same for Sen Clinton? Are the Obama people THAT afraid that she would steal the nomination from him? (Which I don't think is likely, anyway.)

As an aside, what is the dispostiion of the Berg v. Obama suit filed in the PA Federal Court? Has it been thrown out, dismissed, denied, or what? There is no information concerning the update of this suit anywhere. Thank you.

puma, and everyone else this may concern, if you are a true democrat
then prove it ! You cannot call yourself a true democrat if you don't vote
for Obama. Clinton has lost the race in the primaries, a real democrat
cares about the country(America) they care about our economy, they care about our families over there in Iraqu, they care about jobs, heailth care, our kids and on and on, people wake up the time is near make the right choice Obama, if you pick mcaine you will be picking the same thing that you are going through right now, and you
will be doing this out of spite just because hillary was not the nomonee, guess what i got some news for you hillary people,Hillary
will still be eating good and sleeping good when you vote mcain into the White House, we will be the one that suffers – low paying jobs ,insurance bad, gas prices up ect. this will not affect Hillary clinton this will affect you and me! AND THATS REAL TALK!!!!!

aware   August 27th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

So?

"No way, no how, no chance, no" Obama! :(

Mainstream America is not far left-wing Liberal!

Obama is old patronage Chicago politics, and he won't win!

Hillary was right! She is the stronger candidate and could have taken real change to Washington as president!

So, this former democrat will vote for John McCain 08! He is a strong, honest man of integrity and authenticity who, like Hillary Clinton, is in touch with mainstream America! :)

Rob Johnson   August 27th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

Hillary Clinton herself gave a speech YESTERDAY in which she clearly said that Obama was going to be the Democratic nominee, and hopefully the next President, and enthusiastically encouraged her supporters to vote for him.

She has a right to have her votes counted, but I'm shaking my head over some of the Hillary supporters who even NOW continue to hold out hope that God will swoop down from heaven and make her the Democratic nominee.

Do you think you know something that Hillary doesn't?

Karl   August 27th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

Look. I know some people are going to pull a Lloyd Bentson on me for this statement but so be it.

Abe Lincoln. You know how much experience he had before the task of saving the union was thust upon him?
two years, or one term in the U.S. house, and four in the Illinois house.

If you give me examples of Obama not showing experience please do. But don't say as BigDogg says that he's the least qualified president ever. Because while you may agree with Obama on policy matters that doesn't justify a false statement.

Anonymous   August 27th, 2008 2:12 pm ET

Both of them are practically the same on at least 95% of the issues.
And as far as experience, you can only be experienced enough to be president IF YOU HAVE BEEN the president. Nobody walks into the White House ready to be president on day 1 of a term. Anybody who believes that if you're old and have been in DC for a long time that means you're ready to be president, then you're sadly mistaken.

Ohio Voter   August 27th, 2008 2:12 pm ET

The morning after Hillary's amazing speech….the Obamabots are still trashing Hillary and her supporters.

Glad, I never voted for Obama, Hillary all the way!…..even if that means John McCain 08.

Ellie, Boyds MD   August 27th, 2008 2:12 pm ET

EVERYBODY JUST NEEDS TO COOL OUT…..

Jesus, you would think we are NOT all on the SAME TEAM like Sen. Clinton clearly stated last night.

What is the problem with everyone? I mean all this bashing and trashing is NOT accomplishing a DARN thing but destroying everything YOU AND I want for our country. Everyone is focusing on his or her own personal agenda and NOT what's best for the country as a whole. What hell is WRONG with you people?

Are we so BENT on destroying our FUTURE and our kids future by acting like a bunch of three year olds? Are we that shallow that we can't UNITE for a GREATER PURPOSE? I mean Jesus, all this nonsense is getting out of control. Sen. Clinton clearly made her message clear.

I'm a Obama supporter during the primary, but if the tables had been turned and Sen. Clinton had won the nomination back in June. I would have SUPPORTED, ENDORSED and VOTED for her all the way into the White House. I would NEVER, EVER, EVER give my vote away to a Republican!!! A TRUE DEMOCRAT is loyal to the Party to which they represent, not the candidate who may or may not fit their "prefect" mold. I would NEVER disgrace or dishonor Sen. Clinton or Sen. Obama by giving my vote to John McCain or any other Republican!! Are you ALL nuts? Is this honestly how you HONOR Sen. Clinton by voting for someone who clearly does NOT support her policies when it comes to public service and women's issues?

AND YOU WOMEN out there acting a FOOL and causing so much ruckus threatening to vote for McCain…

WHAT the heck is wrong with you women? ARE you so vindictive that you would dishonor 35+ years of Sen. Clinton's public service on women issues and issues facing this country so easily by betraying her by giving your vote to John McCain? Is that HONOR these days? Back in the days that was called being a "TRAITOR".

Sen. Obama is our Democratic nominee, it may not have been the way you wanted, but he won based on the political process. In a perfect world we would have everything our way, but we don't live in a perfect world, so we play by the rules that are given. It saddens me that Sen. Clinton's so-called supporters have done nothing but "bash and trash" Sen. Obama over a race that is over and done with. We KNEW there would be a winner and a loser.

I have a GREATER sense of PRIDE and RESPECT for Sen. Clinton on her speech tonight. She honored the Democratic Party by being dedicated, loyal and focused on putting a Democratic President in the White House. She made it clear that Sen. Obama is HER candidate.

If Sen. Obama is NOT YOUR candidate, then GO vote for John McCain. It won't be the first or last time voters have done so out of spite and bitterness, the past EIGHT YEARS has proven how your vote will play out. I just pray and hope your are prepared for MORE YEARS for Bush's failed policies with John McCAin.

True Republican   August 27th, 2008 2:11 pm ET

Hillary, great speech. I think John McCain can win without your supporters( a bunch of whiners). To be honest, we don't need losers on the winning side!

Barbara Gooch   August 27th, 2008 2:10 pm ET

So, Obama had to elect someone to be an attact dog, well doesn't this tell us that he has no back bone. I think McCain can do his own attact after all he has experience. Wake up people and listen to the stupid comments that Obama makes.

Patriciaw   August 27th, 2008 2:09 pm ET

"a joint statement from the Obama and Clinton campaigns laying out the roll call process had been sent to state delegation chairs Tuesday night."

So something clearly hammered out between the Obama and Clinton teams somehow miraculously translates into some conspiracy between Obama and the DNC… Amazing!

Sounds just like how the fact that Clinton agreed to FL and MI votes not counting, has overtime, been conveniently parsed as something manufactured by Obama.

As my grandparents used to say: "When goat dung want to roll, it will roll uphill"

andrew   August 27th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

I worries me that there is not going to be a real roll call. Is Obama afraid that he will not retain all of the votes he got prior to this? the roll call is not designed to give hillary her due. it is designed to count the votes. only in a non-democratic country do you pretend to count the votes.

aware   August 27th, 2008 2:07 pm ET

Unity?

"No way, no how, no chance, no" Obama!

Mainstream America is not far left-wing Liberal!

So, if the democrats ever want to win a general election they will have to nominate a moderate! Pelosi and her far left-wing Liberal group have done zip!

Obama is just old patronage Chicago politics! He won't win! He talks like a Sophist – they were good at arguing that right is wrong!

Hillary was right! She is the stronger candidate and could have given the Democrats a win!

So, this former democrat will vote for John McCain 08! He is a strong, honest man of integrity and authenticity who, like Hillary Clinton, is in touch with mainstream America! :)

War for your children   August 27th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

McCain has no real leadership qualities. His big military claim to experience, beyond I was a POW, was at Pensacola. Ask your self why if McCain did such a great job with the training Squadron in FL. did the Navy ship him off to a dead end job in DC after. When I was in that usually meant you screwed up and they were going to get you to resign and get out. If McCain is going to run on his military experience. I think it's time the Media examines that claim.

Obama/Biden   August 27th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

John McCaim is dangerous for the country because four more years of Bush liking will bring more threat to our country. Obama/Biden ticket is very strong on national security and Biden as well as Obama is well respected around the world. Obama has better judgment on every single issues that we need on a president than mccain. That is why we must vote Democratic this November to prevent a second 9/11 and have someone who is ready for what ever decission to defend our national security in case of any plot.

I honestly don't like the idea of a roll call. For what- to promote unity. If that was the case, then we should've done the same thing in past presidential elections. It makes me feel like we need to be handled with kid gloves because we're so sensitive and needy.

I am an independent observer. McCain's comments over the last few months have convinced me now. I typically do not like negative campaigning, but the Obama people (and Joe Biden) need to make this clear:
McCain escalates every world crisis. He will trigger an international confrontation. It is sad to say but he is a warmonger. I say it with great sadness because I was expecting much more and have been greatly disappointed with his rhetoric. America needs to use its power wisely to be effective. It cannot seek to intervene everywhere. It must reserve its strength for intervention in situations that are important to the US. I do not want America's power to be thinly spread across the world and squandered.

Mauri   August 27th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

Those who called for the roll-call have every right to do so. That's what is called "DEMOCRACY." What this will do today is reinforce for all you name-callers and trash-talkers just who the nominee is and who it should have been. Take this right away, as so many would like to have done — and you'll see your rights slipping away with it. Better count your blessings (whatever you deem them to be) and quit your bellyaching, because if you don't, you'll see the Republicans occupying the White House come next January.

Michael   August 27th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

I just can not for the life of me understand how Obama came to be the President on the ticket and Hillary left off completly.

Who in the Democrat party is even close to Bill Clinton in knowing what it takes to be President and who is qualified and who is not. He spent 8 tough years as the President of the United States and by all accounts was considered by most to be one of the best ever. Yet his opinion that Obama is not ready is dismissed. Unbelievable.

Hillary has Obama beat by a landslide on experience and knowing first hand what it takes to deliver in Washington. She would have the greatest adviser of all time in her husband by her side.

Obama on the other hand has Michelle. I am certain that she either was the deciding voice on Hillary not being the VP or at least a leading one. This is the level of logical, experienced advise Obama will get form his wife. Hillary would have unified the party and made McCain an after thought in November. Unbelievable.

If McCain wins the Democrats have only themselves to blame. And if Obama wins and is not ready and is a disaster, the Democrats have only themselves to blame.

UNBELIEVABLE.

Roll call…..Roll call……I think her supporters are doing everything they can to riun our chances of taking over the white house. They keep talking about Hillary's 18 million voters. Well Obama had 18 million voter too. I wonder if they would have wanted us to act the same way if Hillary had won the primarys. I almost hope they get what they looking for and John (Wayne) McCain wins and changes the direction of the supreme court. And the rights a lot of women fought for gets reversed. It' s almost worth it so I can set back and laugh at what they did to themselves.

J.- Michigan   August 27th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

By the way, NO PRESIDENT in history EVER had experience until he became President. So your argument that Obama has no experience is completely irrelevant! John McCain has NO Presidential experience, either. George Bush supposedly had lots of it, but look what he's done….nothing!!! Clinton and Kennedy had none either, but they both did very well. The one thing that's consistent is America prospers when Democrats are in office. END OF STORY!

SO YOU CENSORED THIS – WHERE SHOULD I POST IT? YOU DO NOT LET ANYONE COMMENT ON YOUR 20 DAY OLD ELECTION MAP OR ON YOUR PICKING AND CHOOSING WHICH POLLS TO INCLUDE AND WHICH TO EXCLUDE.

What is it with CNN and their selective choosing what can and can not be commented on??? I can comment on this article, but one posted later than this one: "Biden set for spotlight – Posted: 12:30 PM ET" has already been closed for comment in less than 60 minutes! CNN also has not updated its election map in 20 days despite dozens of state polls that have taken place since then AND IT WILL NOT ALLOW PEOPLE TO COMMENT ON IT. I guess they are afraid people might point out how they have picked and chosen polls to show certain states as toss-ups where more recent polls have shown as much as a 10-12 point advantage for one candidate. Got to keep everybody on the edge of their seats to keep the ratings up.

Obviously the roll call is designed to give Hillary her due. She has earned it, not just over the primary season but over the last 16 years. And I don't mind if they do go through the entire roll; Obama will be the nominee anyway. And since I AM a true Democrat, if by some strange turn of events Hillary ended up wresting the nomination away for herself, I would vote for her in November because she and Obama stand for the same Democratic principles and ideals. I am a very dedicated Obama supporter, but I'm a Democrat first. If you call yourself a Democrat, you will vote for whoever our nominee is.

It is amazing to me how ignorant some of those who "CLAIM" to support Hilary are being. The fact is they fit in one of the following:

1. Racist, and incapable of voting for anyone who isn't white. It's
amazing to me that so many whites seem to think they have a
sense of entitlement to the White House.
2. TRAITORS: Were never really supporters of the Democratic Party
or it's candidate. They just wanted a woman, and since they didn't
get one nominated they're taking they're votes to the Republicans,
which is the ultimate act of betrayal.
3. Idiots- They have no common sense, period.
4. ALL OF THE ABOVE

Might as well get over it, folks. OBAMA is going to be your President, whether you like it or not! DEAL WITH IT, sore losers!

Obama can not win this election without the Hillary Clinton votes and Obama supporters need to get off her case. Clinton delegates have an Absolute right to a roll call vote. They have for months been trying to suppress this vote. What does that say about Democracy in the Democratic party. They talk about unity, but unity with a gun to your head, certainly is not going to get you a vote in November when you have a secret ballot. I am a life long Democrat and have voted Democrat for over 50 years. I am sick with disgust by what I see and hear going on at this convention. Nader is starting to look better all the time.

What is the face of America?
Is it a senile old soldier clinging to the memories of a war long over?
Is it a young progressive multicultural man or women who can bring the hopes and dreams of the future to reality?
John McCain represents the past. Barack Obama represents the future. What direction do you want our beloved country to go. The past or the future? We not only live in the United States but in the World. We must be able to compete with the rest of the world especially in the area of technology. McCain,(God love him) is not capable of taking us forward. He is still too bound by his war experiences and can not see the future.

USAF RET   August 27th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

I have been an Obama supporter from the beginning–but just barely over Clinton because their issues/position were almost identical. After the Texas and Ohio primary I saw the Clinton campaign go too negative for me and I was disappointed with her, especially when she said both her and McCain were quailfied to be POTUS and Obama had a speech. That crossed the line for me. You can talk about you family members but you NEVER go against them and build up the outsider at their exspense. That hurt, but I believe Clinton knew she messed up then and wished she could recall those words. Even though I was really pissed at her then, I knew that I would never do or not do anything to put McCain in the WH. Clinton supporters, I'm sure you have your own stories of hurt, but we can't let down our kids and grandkids by allowing McCain to continue to screw this country up. Last night, Clinton asked you why you support her; I think you need to answer that question. I still feel that you Clinton supporters should have had her debt paid off by now but it doesn't matter because after last night I intend to help. Obama supporters and Clinton supporters both need to end the playground tactics, come together and elect our issues into office with Obama. If we must use playground tactics, let's use them together against McCain.

The democrats think Bush is running, no wonder the democrats don't win elections!!!

Dopey   August 27th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

",the Delaware Democrat will also hit longtime Senate colleague John McCain hard on a wide range of issues and say the Arizona senator represents four more years of Bush administration policies.." That's not what the flip-flopping FRAUD that is Joe Biden was saying in the primary debates was he? Back then he was saying he WANTED to run either against or WITH John McCain because "the country would be better off." Joe Biden is a fake. He doesn't even want to be Vice President. He earlier said he hoped Barack didn't ask him. I hope the American people are not that gullible. Biden is as genuine as a three dollar bill.

Ted, WA   August 27th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Hillary lost because of an incompetent campaign team. You should be blaming them, not Obama.

I mean, she is trying to show unity and already her team has leaked to the New York times that her speech was geared for a 2012 run should Obama lose. Her own team is undermining her!

Hillary supporters should watch out. If McCain wins in 2008, you can bet most of Obama's supporters will get behind Warner in 2012, leaving her in the dust again.

kathleen   August 27th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

Why is it that everyone here that is calling for a roll call tonight is blaming the Obama camp for "fixing it" to make sure he wins.

REALITY CHECK – Hillary Clinton dropped out of the race on June 7th and backed Barack Obama.

Senator Clinton, as proven with her speech last night, is very obviously much more gracious a loser than any of her supporters. You all sound like petulant teenagers.

It's interesting to me that what would have been considered pretty standard fare at conventions of old is now unthinkable. Instead of being a place that the party can get together to hammer out a platform and choose a candidate, it is now a well-scripted coronation. And anything less is considered catastrophic. I can remember when the presidential candidate did not reveal his VP choice until the convention. And more than one roll call was exciting, not disastrous. You didn't have a parade of speakers who only got 4 or 5 minutes either.

Michael "C" Lorton, Virginia   August 27th, 2008 1:43 pm ET

If Hillary Clinton doesn't demand that the roll call be cut short…..she will pay a very high price for her arrogance within the Democratic paryt…….she has to accept the fact that she will not be running for the Presidency anymore…..it's over Hillary……..accept reality.

Denise   August 27th, 2008 1:42 pm ET

Clint and Carolina are absolutely right, CNN just loves fomenting more anger and resentment, when there isn't a need for it. I'm sick and tired of hearing the commentators – nothing positive – just annoying talk. I tuned into C-SPAN – it was great, no commentary or negativity – just the convention. Please stop- and for once play fair

Sammy   August 27th, 2008 1:41 pm ET

If you want to watch the convention only its available. Sometimes its interesting to tune in to hear other speakers. Some are interesting others are not.

Also… the method for choosing nominees is an old one that is modified from time to time. Because someone lost is no reason to scrap it. I would also like to see credible evidence that Hillary is being forced to do anything before I would make such a statement. Next, roll a pair of dice. If McCain is president its a %50 chance there will be some kind of preemptive military strike against Iran. If its Obama it will probably be %10… if that. Roll carefully.

Why are they so afraid the let the delegates vote? Are they scared Hillary may win the nomination? No Roll Call Vote, No Obama!!! PERIOD
______________________________________________
Hillary herself is now on the Obama bandwagon. She may stop the roll call herself. Personally, I think the first go around, they should let it go, so her votes can be recorded – but it appears it's up to Hillary.

What is it exactly that makes you hate Obama so much??????

Or are you just another unethical follower of that un-American slimeball, Rush Limbaugh??????????

Greg Pottstown, Pa.   August 27th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

I would think that this would insult her supporters. This is a dog and pony show. No rule that all votes must be counted. Is that another way to say, even if Hillary got more votes she could loose the nomination? I have never heard of a vote in which not all votes are not counted.

A recovering Republican   August 27th, 2008 1:40 pm ET

Experience of McCain. What is it. 5 years a POW? and that qualifies him as having presidential experience how? Being a senator? Few senators have ever been elected initially to be president. What do they exactly mean by "experience?" Is it dumping your injured wife who suffered through your captivity to marry a rich showcase wife the experience we need? Is it talking about the "rich" but not being able to define it serioiusly, but instead to "joke" abouit it by drawing the line at the top 1/2 of 1% of income earners? Is it not knowing the difference between Al Queda and other terrorists? Is not knowing how many houses you own or not knowing what kind of car you drive? Is it being involved directly in a major scandal? Hmmm. I guess they are right in saying Obama lacks the experience.

10 years sober.

The problem is Hillary is not being true, if she really wanted to put this to rest and 100% SUPPORT BARAK.. she would ask that her name not be put on the roll call and state the Barak is the nominiee and I support him whole heartly and this is his time and his night. THAT IS A TRUE LEADER to step aside and lets him take the white house w/ out any other deals. I am an Independant and I know McCain will not help me and my family. AND ONE THING ABOUT experience. Obama may not have all that others may have BUT that is why you have an excellent cabinet. Bill Clinton wasn't that great, he had an awesome team behind and OBAMA will have the judgement to pick an even more awesome team but if only the clintons will get out of the way. THEY ARE divisive, not McCain he is just capitalizing on the dems probelms.

SIDE NOTE: Hillary supporters if you think John McCain really likes you, just see what he would have done if she was the nominee. Even more of their dirty laundry would have come out and exploited to the fulliest. This stuff he is pulling with Barak would be a breeze, SO DON'T BE FOOLED.

Shelly   August 27th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

Shame on CNN for turning the convention into a soap opera. Every question asked by a commentator is fishing for a "big" story. The convention can be interesting enough without all of your constant rhetoric. We are pretty smart people – let us make up our own minds.

ALLAN USA   August 27th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

They afraid HRC. Obama is jerk and is joke to be PRESIDENT. Wake up America. It's crazy to see Obama PRESIDENT. NO HRC ==NO obama.

Maggie   August 27th, 2008 1:35 pm ET

Look again Obama cannot stick to his word. He is trying to back out of the roll call for Hillary. Is he afraid that she might end up with more support than him? That would be a joke if that happened. He is a real flip flopper and I do not like or trust him. That empty suit of a man will never get my vote and I am sure that goes for millions of her supporters. You Obamites want Hillary to do all the dirty work for this man, well she has done enough and its now up to him to try and unite the party. If he is such a good candidate he should be able to do it without Hillary and her supporters. His supporters feel that he is a godsend for them, well then you all go out and get the voters for him in November.

Hillary see you 2012 and I am still 100% behind you.

Ryan   August 27th, 2008 1:35 pm ET

If Hillary seems to be a bit tepid in her speech last night, one might have to consider these factors:

1.If Obama wins this election, there is no doubt that he’ll run again in 2012. That will guarantee that Hillary will not get the party nomination because it’s almost impossible for anyone to win a nomination against an incumbent during the primary.

2.If Obama wins this election, the next opportunity for Hillary will be 2016 and that might be too late for her. Hence goes the opportunity for the first female in the US history to become president.

3.If Obama loses this November, Hillary will be able to unite the Democrats and will have a much better chance to win in 2012.

So for Hillary' supporters, a vote for John McCain in 2008 is actually a vote for Hillary in 2012. Politics is just like a chess games, sometimes you have to take 1 step back to move forward 3 steps.

PAT   August 27th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

I would like for someone to tell me where Mccain got his experience to be a president, does being a POW give you experence. Where does anyone get the experience. That is a job that takes brains, and McCain is dumb.

aware   August 27th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

Biden adds nothing worthy of an Obama vote!

Hillary is the woman who should be president! :)

Obama is an equivocating, obfuscating, weak candidate who is not a credible candidate for president. I will not vote for Obama! :(

And so, this former democrat will vote for John McCain 08. He is a strong, honest, authentic man of integrity who is, like Hillary, in touch with mainstream America! :)

Eyes Wide Open   August 27th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

I am a registered republican, but vote my conscience.

Obama almost had me. He talked of Unity. He talked of healing the People. He talked of running a clean, positive campaign.

Then, in his speeches, he started using the word THEY….."THEY want you to be afraid of me. THEY say he has a funny name. And that he doesn't look like all those other guys on the dollar bills (race card?).

Then the negative ads started. He doesn't talk Unity anymore, unless I am a Democrat. The rift is apparent in the Dem Party, if you care to notice it.

I was shocked when Biden said on Thursday to the press "I am NOT your man." Flat out. At least the other potential VP's said "That is not my place to announce who it will be."

I don't watch a whole lot of TV and do not get "Star Struck". I looked at Obama's voting record and what he has done since becoming a Senator.

I don't see how a person can base their vote on the substance available (or the lack there of) if you wish to "see" it…..??

And before you Flame me, I did not say I am voting for McCain. But I know for sure I am not voting for Obama. The future of our country rides on whether you believe the hype, or if you care to look at the record.

Sabrina   August 27th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Will never vote for Obama he should have waited till he had more experience, not putting Hillary on the ticket shows he has no judgement, he could have won but I don't think he has a chance to win now. My vote will go to McCain! Hillary in 2012, I can wait.

Missouri Mule   August 27th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

BigDogg wrote "Obama is the MOST UNQUALIFIED person ever to be running for President."

Really? I think you have Obama confused with George W. Bush.

Janine   August 27th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

1. Why is it Obama's fault that Michigan and Florida votes didn't count? Rules are rules – they are there for a reason. Stop acting like children.

2. If Obama loses, Hillary doesn't have a shot. It will be her fault. She stands to not just lose the future presidency but her political career.

3. To everyone talking about experience – Bush has experience and he's led us halfway over the edge and of a cliff and McCain with his same policies is going to push us over.

As for me, I'm voting for someone that doesn't represent what we're doing now. I'm tired of going to work everyday thinking that I'm working just to get by and pay bills.

Judy in PA   August 27th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

Its amazing, we have had a Republican as President before and during each recession this country has faced since Lincoln. It has taken a democrat to get this country back on track. Now you want another Republican for the next 4-8 years. I'm sorry but I need the economy fixed I dont have 4-8 years to wait, and in reality neither do you.

Last night convinced me that we really missed our chance on Hillary becoming one of the greatest presidents of all times. It was a beautiful farewell speech, and I'm more proud of her than ever. This is still a man's world….but getting strenght from the likes of Hillary, we will one day elect a female president, like England and Germany did. To all woman, we still have a long way to go.

If Obama won, he needs to prove it by letting all the votes be counted.

It took the Supreme court to stop the vote in 2000, It just takes Obama in 2008.

Obama is extorting Hillary by threating her future in the party.

Neither Hillary OR Obama won the primaries. As a result, tonight we will find out IF democracy is alive or dead in the United States. Delegates are SUPPOSE now vote their conscience and vote for the person who is best to win in the general election. Based on current polls, this is NOT Obama. So, I ask Obama supporter: Do you really want the democrats to win in November? Do you really believe that Obama has the experience to lead the country during such difficult time? I honestly believe that he has potential and as Hillary's VP Obama could gain the experience that he presently lacks.

RH   August 27th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

There have all along been plenty of people, Democrats and Republicans alike, that were on some level – conscious or otherwise – desperate for any excuse to not vote for a black man regardless of how much they despise Bush, his presidency, and even his party. Whether it's, "Hillary was robbed," or "Obama isn't ready/qualified," etc., the underlying motivation is the same. Just what constitutes 'readiness' for the American presidency? Is there some checklist somewhere? Someone define this 'readiness' without referring to any specific person.

Ellen   August 27th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

Barrack Obama is a nice guy, but we need a leader in the White House not an average guy who doesn't have the expericene or the wisdom to lead. If he is in the White House everyone but him will be running the Country.

CM   August 27th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

Lets get this roll call done and move on. Obama had more votes than HRC evem if FL and Michigan were full counted. There will be no surprises, elections aren't won on drama.

Of course we'll still get Hillary 'supporters' coming on here saying they're voting for McCain for whatever reason they make up. Its like they think they know whats best for Hillary, even more than she does.

HRC and Bill will be hitting the trail for Obama after the convention. Get on board people!

I'm an Obama supporter but I will hold him to his word. if he doesn't live up to that then I won't vote for him next election. Now we need the change he promises. If he doesn't bring it then he's gone. Simple as that

No way, no how…..

NO McCain

Obama 08 a vote for moving away from failed policies

Carolyn   August 27th, 2008 1:22 pm ET

Obama will be the 2008 President and he is qualified. I wish the media would stop painting him as a weak person. He is not weak, l he is a strong MAN with values. I wonder if Obama had been "White" would the Media be report all the a negative spins as they have been doing. The only different with Obama and Hillary is the color of their skin. If people in general would stop looking at this man color but at his character then you would know that he is right for AMERICA. Even the so-called regilous believe who suppose to be Christian can't see past his skin color. I thought people had gotten beyond skin color, but being in my 40's I see that today some people still can't accept a BLACK MAN as being President. Obama can't any worse than the OLD Farts! that's been in the White House. These so-called WHITE MEN.

The PUMAs are nothing more than Repub socket puppets and dupes. Hillary herself last night basically said between the lines that they are a bunch of idiots.

As far as voting goes, the PUMAs were never able to line up ***anybody*** with any clout within the Democratic Party to support, or even say a nice word about them. They are indeed a great big "nothing" in many more ways than not having any presence at all within DNC leadership.

Hillary has to get behind Obama for her own reasons, but my vote is still mine to do with what I wish.

I like Obama, but he's not ready. This convention proves it.

I had been so mad about the way the Dem party process went, I was seriously planning to vote for McCain. I was so angry! I didn't want to be taken for granted as a woman, and I didn't want Hillary to be cast aside like that! But then I had a long thoughtful conversation with a friend of mine who's supported Obama all the way, and she empathized with my frustration and disappointment, she heard the reasons why I loved Hillary as a candidate, and she didn't denomize me for considering a GOP vote in protest. She just LISTENED and she let me vent and get my feelings off my chest. Then we sat in silence for a minute. I broke the silence by asking her why she believed in Obama so much, and how she got around his limitations of experience. By the time she was done talking, we were over at the computer watching Obama's speech on race in Philly, not just the sound bites but the whole thing. And I did for her what she did for me, I really listened. While I still love Hillary & I wish we could be electing a woman in November, I've decided to put the primary behind me and elect Barack Obama our next president. They are so alike in their policy goals, and the part of me that wants to be idealistic again really was inspired by his speech on race. I can still think Hillary was the best candidate, and I can still get behind Obama and elect him, and defeat McCain. I don't want to be like those Nader supporters who voted for Nader or who stayed home and failed to pull the lever for Gore, handing Bush the election. Those people caused a lot of damage by "voting their conscience" but by failing to see the larger conscience beyond their immediate anger at the Democrats for not putting up a "perfect" candidate. Obama may not be perfect, but even I have to admit that he's a hell of a lot better than McCain. To all you Obama lovers out there, please stop bashing Hillary supporters. Please listen to us and let us lick our wounds or even vent a little bit. If you treat us with respect, we'll come around. Don't alientate us. Don't be sore winners. Now let's go get this Obama guy elected. Defeat the GOP!

The tighter you squeeze, the more slips through your fingers.

Bad Week for the Democrats.

Joan   August 27th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

Howard Dean circled the big name Demos around the Obama wagon from the very beginning because he was terrified that to run Clinton would be certain defeat! As soon as Clinton lost the first primary, the DNC began calling for her to drop out. Every time Clinton won a primary, out came another "name" democrat endorsing Obama. The DNC didn't wait to see who the voters wanted, it was all about who THEY wanted to run in the General Election! So now they have their MAN, and he's been stuck in the polls ever since June. He's no longer the party's "rock star". He's turned out to be a flash in the pan.

He's NOT going to win over the reluctant female voter because our support of Clinton WAS individual. We wanted a female president in our lifetime. She had paid her dues. She did (and is still doing) what the party has asked her to do. We feel that 2008 was THE time to elect a woman as President. Obama had plenty of time to gain experience and run in 2012 or later. The Party took our money, used our volunteer hours….and let us down, and we will NOT forget nor forgive it.

Jeff   August 27th, 2008 1:16 pm ET

It's too bad that the delegates won’t have the backbone to throw Obama over for someone who actually might be good for the nation. Obama supporters and the Democratic Party in general have decided to take a cheap imitation of a leader and do their best to elevate him to the highest office in the land. I am saddened to see my Party once again go down the wrong road and decide to follow a fairy tale instead of looking for a serious leader to solve the nation's serious problems. It would be nice to see someone put on their big boy pants and make a reasonable, rational decision. This short-sightedness is the reason that the Democratic nominee is not doing better in the polls. Obama should be leading by leaps and bounds after 8 years of disastrous Republican leadership. It just goes to show that you can fool some of the people…

Details are finally hammered out? It is obvious that the details of this rigged roll call were hammered out months ago when the DNC decided to push their nominee to the top of the heap and throw Mrs. Clinton under the bus.

The Democratic Party has really blown it this time and will no doubt attempt to blame Mrs. Clinton when Mr. Obama loses the election.

RH   August 27th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

I believe McCain will win for one simple reason: the Republicans know how to tell people what to believe and what to think, while the Democrats don't. The Republicans' entire campaign against Obama has been nothing but thinly-veiled inuendo, appealing to base fears and instincts and the lowest common denominator of intelligence not necessarily because that's all they've got, but because that's all it takes.
If the Democrats want to win the white house in today's America, they'll have to do what the Republicans have learned to do: cast off all respect for the electorate and shamelessly manipulate the people into submission.

b Jiggy   August 27th, 2008 1:14 pm ET

Eli   August 27th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

I am a supporter of Hillary Clinton, and I believe that she would make a much better cabinet level member, HHS Secretary or Sec of State, than a VP. But what we have to remember is that first democrats have to win the White House, which in the words of most Democrats and Republicans, would have been a slam-dunk with Clinton on the ticket. I personally think that Barak Obama may win in November with Biden, but with Clinton the Democrats would have definitely won. I will be voting to Obama, as I hope all forward thinkers will, because of what is at stake in this election, Supreme Court, environment and American reputation around the world. People with common sense unite and elect Obama!

Democrats please Ignore the Media and watch the convention at C-Span the unbaised network judge for your self. The media are spining every thing to get their rates up, they do not care about you and me who are suffering in this economy, they get paid well for reporting crap. Unity for Democrats I love you All even PUMA democratic.

I keep hearing and reading that Barack Obama doesn't have the necessary experience needed to "lead" this country. I do not want another president that has been around DC so long they have forgotten who they work for. We need a new pair of eyes on the issues facing us and unlike McCain, Barack Obama is able to see the problems and opportunities to fix problems without the "eye funk" of the current administration. McCain is not now, nor will he ever be as much of a charismatic leader as Obama.
Further, our national security, or rather insecurity was never as serious a matter until September 11, 2001 and who was in the White House as president, reading "My Pet Goat" at the time? The failure of our national security is not attributable to the president, unless he has an actual hand in the violence. Think, people.

Sick & Tired of Nobama   August 27th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

HILLARY MADE NOBAMA LOOK AS WEAK AS HE ALWAYS HAS BEEN. I HOPE ALL OPENED THEIR EYES TO THE TRUE STRONG CANDIDATE.
A ROLL CALL MUST BE TAKEN.

Dean in Florida   August 27th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

If the Democrats truly represent the party of change, they will reverse this sham and nominate HRC for president. This act alone would show that they put principles ahead of egotistic ambition. If they did this, I would vote for HRC. Plus, she has a much better chance of defeating McCain in November. Obama has virtually no chance.

Terry   August 27th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

Test the PREZ,

Hey I have a better idea all voters must take a test to vote.
If we did that Hillary would have won by a mile

Amen Carolina!!!!! Amen!!!! Your commemts about CNN were right on point. I two switched to CSPAN and NSMBC so I could here the speakers. CNN was too busy having a talk show to cover the convention. As you stated, they were more concerned with hearing themselves talk than covering the convention.

Why waste time voting for a nominee? After all, isn't that the business of a convention? Oh right—this is a coronation.

If the Democratic delegates saw one thing in Hillary's speech last night it's that she's the Presidential one and they're selecting the wrong guy.

Sorry Democrats, I can't reward stupid behavior.

Nobama, no way, no how.

JTSpangler   August 27th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

The entire nomination process is antithetical to the bedrock democratic principle of one-person one-vote, but if they're going to play these games, let's see exactly how "united" the party is and let the tally be public.

Vegas Barbie for Obama   August 27th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

Why not? This whole convention has turned into the Clinton Family Talent Show, anyway. Sad, and sadder still, CNN will not post this, since HRC LOST the nomination, CNN has become all about the Clintons. Hillary was campaigning last night, HER campaign, and her words in support of Obama, while loudly spoken, don't speak nearly as loudly as her and her husband's words and actions both during and after the Primary season process. Bill won't even attend Obama's acceptance speech on Thursday night? Bitter is as bitter does. With friends like the Clintons…
OBAMA/BIDEN '08 & '12 Clintons go home!

Clint   August 27th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

I can't believe how CNN has handled the DNC this year. When did yall become "FOX 2″. Monday I watched the entire coverage of the DNC on CNN. . It was very negative in its slant, and really seemed like its main objective was to stir up negative perception. They don’t show any of the ongoing speeches, ever, but just gripe about whats not being said. They make such a huge ordeal over the Hillary Clinton "sore losers". All doom and gloom and pessimistic on the democrat side. They didn't show anything positive and it was just close ups of smiling African American folk and frowning white women. It was so obvious that they were trying to paint a picture. And they did. The media eats this up. I couldn't get over how amazing Michelle Obama's speech was. Of course, CNN had something to say about that, too.

Well, last night, I watched the coverage on C-SPAN and PBS. No commentary or gossip. See, they actually showed all the speakers and speeches. No journalist commentary. I couldn't believe how invigorating the speakers were. They did an awesome job. The crowd was really into it. The straight coverage was night and day compared to CNN.

So, after Hillary's (excellent) speech last night, and the convention was over, I flipped over to CNN, just to see what was going on. Surprise! They had an African American woman crying—balling her eyes out— about Hillary and going on and on about how presidential she was. Stirring up mess! Painting a picture.
Being typical right wing media. They are no better than FOX news.
I am so over CNN's coverage of this..

Anyway, what a great evening!!!!!!!!!!!

Mitch   August 27th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

After last night's speech, anyone watching got two feelings. 1.) This woman is presidential material; and 2.) What was Obama thinking not picking her to be VP? That may be his ultimate undoing, and in doing so, he let his ego come before his country. Nevertheless, Hillary's speech last night demonstrated that her country comes before her ego. She was so gracious in defeat – to all those who tear her down and say she's selfish, let's see you put $13m of your own money into a campaign where you received 18 million votes to just turn around and talk up your opponent the way she did last night. Truely amazing. Truely unselfish. No candidate for president has EVER mentioned and supported her opponent in a convention speech the way she did last night. It made me sad to think that as great as she was, and as great a vision as she described, that I won't get the chance to cast my vote for her. After that endorsement, Obama should move to clear up[ her campaign debt. And if not, then the DNC should retire it for her. No one can unite this party for this election the way she can, and last night she hit a grand slam for her team and for her country. And today if she haults roll call to move to nominate Obama by acclimation, what an ultimate sign of unity and support that would be, and cleaning up her debt would be the least Obama and the DNC can do for her.

Mikey   August 27th, 2008 1:04 pm ET

I hope the Democrats come out of the convention is a position to push through to win on November 4. We cannot continue to current path and McCain is not promising very much of a change and you can bet the actual change will be less that McCain is promising.

The last 8 years have been pretty much a TOTAL FAILURE on all counts. It makes no sense to put a Republican back into the White House, especially one that agrees with George W. Bush 95% of the time. No one can answer where McCain would do anything different on the economy than Bush – even when his staff and surrogates are asked directly in interviews.

Face it, the Bush Administration has screwed our country up BIG TIME through wrongheaded policies and totally incompetent implementation and administration of those policies.

Republicans have little to offer and now only have lies, smear tactics, and fear mongering to fall back on. If we, the people, are stupid enough to fall for this three times in a row, we deserve exactly what we get.

TO THE GULLIBLE OBAMA SUPPORTERS,

WHY DID YOU VOTE FOR OBAMA OVER HILLARY?? I CAN'T BELIEVE YOUR SO STUPID. LOOK INTO HIS PAST AND EXPERIENCE AND YOU STILL VOTED FOR HIM.
NOT EVERYONE IS STUPID.
HE COULD HAVE STILL WON THE ELECTION IF HE WOULD HAVE PICK HILLARY AS VP BUT HIS EGO WAS TO BIG TO LET SOMEONE SMARTER THEN HIM WORK UNDER HIM.

MC CAIN WILL WIN ONLY BECAUSE THE DEMS HAVE A WEAK CHOICE FOR PRESIDENT.

PLEASE DON'T BLAME HILLARY!!!!!!!!!

NEXT TIME GET EDUCATED BEFORE YOU VOTE.

HILLARY WAS THE CORRECT CHOICE FOR PRESIDENT.

GOOD LUCK OBAMA PEOPLE YOU WILL NEED IT.
MC CAIN WILL WIN AND ITS YOUR FAULT FOR VOTING FOR AND INEXPERIENCED CHOICE.

Jo   August 27th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

If I was a Clinton delegate and had worked hard to get to Denver with my time, effort and money then I would want the honor to cast my vote for her even though it would not win her the nomination. I would feel the same if I was an Obama delegate or any other candidate. This is not about Obama or Clinton, it is about showing the respect to these delegates who have worked so hard to get there. These are the people who are going back to their states to help elect democrats to office including Barack Obama. I do not think you want to send them back feeling that they have not been respected nor given the priviledge to cast their vote for their candidate at the national convention.

Ilona Hussein Proud Canadian   August 27th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

Caroline

What can I say?

YOU ARE SO RIGHT! CNN'S REPORTERS JUST LOVE LISTENING TO THEIR OWN VOICES, INSTEAD OF PROPERLY COVERING ALL OF THE DEM. SPEAKERS, CNN'S REPORTERS GET INTO THEIR LITTLE HUDDLE, AND LISTEN TO EACH OTHER CRITICIZE!

FROM THE VERY FIRST DAY OF THE CONVENTION , CNN HAS BENEN DOING THE SAME OLD, SAME OLD!

Mike - Texas   August 27th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

IF they do the FULL roll call of votes, it will show that neither Hillary NOR Obama will win the nomination out right. And the vote will be VERY close.

It will be to the super delegates to push it over the top.

And Dean and Pelosi will make sure the Obama wins the nomination.

RJ   August 27th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

Independent for McCain…i guess McCain's judgement is so much better. lets see…he ditched his crippled wife who waited for him while he was a POW. yeah, let's not forget he was POW….how could we, it's in his every answer. Anyway, he ditches her for a more comely, richer, less crippled model and oh yeah the woman he ditched her for was running around with a married guy. I guess those morals are so much better. And as for his experience….what good is experience when it's all wrong? better to have none than bad experience.

carolflowery   August 27th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

while, you're sending the republicans home, could you make the democratic congress leave with them, while we are cleaning house, lets really clean it up

Mike, Syracuse NY   August 27th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

On Unity. Lemmings are unified as they throw themselves in the sea. Don't let the Democratic Party guilt you into voting for someone unqualified. Biden knows and spoke the truth as did Hillary. Obama is not ready.

ERD in NC   August 27th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

How could anyone actually believe the logic that voting for McCain in November will help Hillary in 2012? I didn't even support Obama in the primaries but still don't the people espousing this notion understand that if Obama loses in November, it will look like it's Hillary's fault?

Willow, in Iowa   August 27th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

I think a roll call would be a good idea, but I also think it would be great, when Obama reaches the winning mark, for Clinton to come out and say, "from this point on, I want all of my delegates to go to Obama, and let every state from then on, give them to Obama. The crowd would go wild.

I watched McCain on an interview a few days ago, and he was asked, "If 78% of the population of this country want us out of Iraq as soon as possible, what do you say to these people?" His answer? "Well, they are all wrong. And I am going to do what I think is right." And this man wants to be POTUS for the majority of Americans? I think not.

faye, NV   August 27th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

Everything will work out if the media stop reading into the event of the convention. Both Obama and Clinton made history and no one is mad but the haters, media and Rep.

The healing has begun and it is time for America to think in the best interest of our nation. Reps have to be stopped and now is the time. Obama and Biden have wonderful and knowledgable people on their side. This USA is a great.

Clinton/McCain   August 27th, 2008 12:56 pm ET

This is the last chance to get a real leader nominated for the Democratic party. Nominate Hillary or face the consequences of another Republican Administration. We Hillary supporters warned you Obamabots that Obama was the weaker candidate and the polls clearly show this. Now is your last chance. Don't blow it!

joe   August 27th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

The roll call for the two candidates is the right thing to do; it is the democratic process. There is no question in anyone's mind about Obama's nomination. But this is a process of nomination, not coronation. Whatever the case, the voters will decide by November who they view as the best candidate to run the country. Let me suggest this: Those folks who still think Hillary Clinton should be president are free to write in her name on the ballot, yes?

Mary from Kentucky   August 27th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

BigDogg don't want to see a bi-racial man as president. How is he unqualified. It seems that McCains is qualified as a POW.

Tatjana   August 27th, 2008 12:55 pm ET

So lets get ready and watch another corrupt deal by the Democratic Party when it comes to the roll call.
If it is true that the roll call is just a sham and pre-decided in a back room , then for me the Democratic Party has lost credibility and integrity.
McCain is perhaps the safer choice after all and I don't think that I would have to hold my nose to vote for him.
Obama is the weakest candidate with a very thin resume and Biden won't help him much either.

HILLARY 2016-2024   August 27th, 2008 12:54 pm ET

As a staunch supporter of Obama, and once follower of McCain (00′), after last night's speach I am looking forward to campaigning for Hillary in 2016. I know without any doubt that WE WILL NEED A DEMOCRAT IN OFFICE FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT 16 YEARS TO CLEAN UP THE MESS THE GOP ONLY TOOK 8 YEARS TO CREATE.

"NO WAY, NO HOW, NO MCAIN." SIDEKICK!

Test the PREZ   August 27th, 2008 12:50 pm ET

I would like to see McSame and Obama take a written exam to see who is the smartest. We have to take test to get jobs so why don't they? At least let them take a high school exit exam or the SAT to see if their brains are still working on all cylinders. Anybody can talk a good game but I would like to see them put on the spot so that we don't wind up with another president like George Bush.

Let's TEST them to see just what they know. Let's see how they handle the three R's. Test the PREZ.

Judgement over Experience – we know Obama doesn't have the experience. I truly believe Obama lacks judgement for the fact that he chose to be a member of Rev Wright's church for over twenty years.

kathleen   August 27th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Vegas – why is it that people like you just don't get it. Barack Obama had nothing to do with the original decision to not include Michigan's or Florida's votes. The democratic leaders in those states made that decision when they held their contests early. Barack Obama was just playing by the rules layed out by the DNC. As for the roll call – Hillary Clinton dropped out of the race – therefore her name should not even be up for nomination – that was a concession the Obama camped made to honor her supporters.

LYNETTE IN CA   August 27th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

There's two major problems with politics in the US….REPUBLICANS and DEMOCRATS. Both equally stubborn, ignorant, and reluctant to see the other side.

Vote independent.

Obama is the MOST UNQUALIFIED person ever to be running for President. He is just a 'rock star – empty suit.' When it comes time to pull that lever…very few will want to put their family and country's safety in his hands.

You never post my comments, but what they hey.

Funny how I go to CSPAN and they state the backlash of delegates for Hillary was overplayed.

CNN, I couldn't stand it anymore. Hour after hour of nonstop commentary without showing the speakers, I switched to CSPAN. And low and behold I get a totally different perspective.

Yesterday, while your commentators continue to state that no one was attacking McCain, I watched speaker after speaker do so.

Maybe if your commentators weren't so in love with their voices and shut up once and awhile, they'd be able to commentate accurately.

gluv   August 27th, 2008 12:37 pm ET

CNNN hyped this up for nothing…

keep in mind that jesse jackson as well as shirly chisholm was put on a roll call nomination back in the day…why anyone be stupid NOT to do it for hillary???

allow her voters to speak their minds and move on to the general and elect obama

Judgement over Experience   August 27th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

I am a white male who served 10 years in the military, grew up in a conservative three generation Republican, christian household and both my parents were hard working blue collar workers who both worked up until their 80's. I am 40 years old and have two teenage children of my own and am struggling to make ends meet. I have to vote my conscience so I have to vote for Obama because my parents would turn over in their graves if they knew that this non caring, warmonger, for the rich only john mccain was the republican candidate for 2008. Thank God they are not alive to see what a sham their party has become because it would surely kill them. Mom and Pop, don't worry I will do the right thing and vote for Obama.
