DENVER, Colorado (CNN) — Democrats on Wednesday formally began the choreographed roll call process of nominating Barack Obama to be their candidate for president in November.

Hillary Clinton and Obama were on the ballot at the party convention on Wednesday.

The states announced their votes in alphabetical order. The voting was to continue until a candidate received 2,210 delegates — the threshold needed to secure the nomination.

Congratulations Senator Barack Obama!

Yes We Can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama/Biden   August 27th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

It is ridiculous what the republican had done to this country in eight years. Coming from economics surplus from Bill Clinton to deep debt to China. This republican government is handing their white plate over to China and begging to barrow money from them. This has never been the US. Most of the time it always been the other way around. We are the one that used to lend money to the world.
These republican think that they have not done enough to the country and try to scare you away from a chance to take our country back. No way, No how, No McCain.

carly   August 27th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

former HC support signing up for McCain.

That roll call was such a farce & so was the whole election, the fix was in for BO from the beginning & you know it.

The MSM was in on it too!!

Cnn you better allow this!!

Denise P Quinton:

For someone who claims to be educated and politically informed, you make NO SENSE AT ALL! One other thing, the GOP will lose this election, with or without your vote. Looks like you let your emotions take over logical thinking.

Obama 08!

Yes we can hope is on the way God is watching, thank you Jesus!

Stefan   August 27th, 2008 9:55 pm ET

Chris,

PUMAS say as many hateful things as the Obama supporters. There is good and bad in every camp. If you choose to only listen to the moronic, hateful comments from moronic, hateful people (no matter whom they support) then your life will be truly miserable. Look to the positive, graceful comments from each side instead, and you'll realize there are good people on both sides.

KATHLEEN   August 27th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

CNC PLEASE YOU ARE TALKING TOO MUCH. YOU AREN'T SHOWING THE IMPORTANT SPEAKERS-all of them!!!! THEY
ARE CARRYING THE MESSAGE!!!! we had to change the channel
to C-cpan to hear Tom Daeshle, Baye. What is wrong with you.

This is not a Republican night. WHY is Larry King having the Reps.
on to comment. Outrageous!!!! Larry King show should have
enthustiac Dems. on these nights and let the Reps have the
CNN ball of wax when they have their convention! No one will
watch.

Please, I want to see Michelle Obama tonight, but everytime
you put the camera on her, Michelle claps and accidently hides
her beautiful personna. She looks beautiful tonight and we
want to see her. Tell Michelle to put her hands down when
she claps. Please. I love her.

GayDem in Cleveland   August 27th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

I think Bill is doing a great job doing what he was directed to but I love the look hillary gave when he commented about supporting Obama.

aware   August 27th, 2008 9:17 pm ET

Hillary is the best but you can keep all the rest! :)

Obama is not ready to be president. He has no judgment, but he does have an excess of egomania!

Country first! "No way, no how, no chance, no" Obama!

So, this former democrat will vote for John McCain 08! He is a strong, honest man of integrity and authenticity who, like Hillary Clinton, is in touch with mainstream America! :)

John   August 27th, 2008 9:17 pm ET

Bill Clinton said Barack Obama is READY TO LEAD.

Bill Clinton said Barack Obama is Ready to be President.

In clear and unequivocal terms.

This Obama supporter who has been on board for Obama since 2004 is now going to send some money to Hillary Clinton to pay down her debt. They've earned it.

tedious898   August 27th, 2008 9:14 pm ET

Thank You democrats. I'm in tears! I can't even make nasty responses to the republicans and "still unconvinced non-converts"

Hear I am a grown man crying like a baby.

God Bless America…God Bless the Democrats the party of inclusion

monica   August 27th, 2008 9:13 pm ET

Thank you Colo Sprgs, CO, It's unfortuante that people will vote based on color and emotion rather than the REAL issues, even Hillary and Bill himself would rather vote Obama than mcbush and how they could justify switching party lines because their candidate did not get the nom is insane…some pumas have responded since my original post but they have nothing to say other than no to Obama, I believe everyone is entitled to their emotional opinion, but why insist on bringing the country down with you…I pray for children of all PUMAs, they will never have a chance to grow up in this country as it should be because of the bitterness of their parents…….SHAME!

Obama '08

ps. Bill Clinton is currently endorsing Obama as I type this….PUMAs turn to the convention and enlighten yourselves!!

Mad as a mother.....Dem   August 27th, 2008 9:09 pm ET

I'm just glad that Hillary did what needed 2 be done to show the country and her supporters that they should support Obama. Now maybe every can stop holding on to that dream and support the dream of an entire people and not just na gender.

Dan, TX   August 27th, 2008 9:01 pm ET

No way, no how, NO MCCAIN!

As an Obama supporter, I did something those PUMA folks didn't do. I donated to Hillary Clinton today for the first time. Go Hillary! Obama will be looking to your input and Bill's input.

No Obama 08   August 27th, 2008 8:59 pm ET

I think it's hilarious that the Dems don't realize that their whole party, presidential candidate, and DNC is nothing but a side show joke.

Ro from Ohio   August 27th, 2008 8:58 pm ET

I love the Dems Convention, but I  want the news people to shut up and let us listen to the speakers on the podium !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

melissa   August 27th, 2008 8:58 pm ET

I don't hate Obama. I just have no confidence in him or his judgement. I'm too concerned about the security of our country and my family. We will never see that much of any one candidate's policy ideas no matter who wins. McCain will lean to the center as usual, and fight against waste and radicalism. Obama has set himself up to be a wimp in foreign policy – and our enemies are still drooling.

Obama/Obiden/Oh No   August 27th, 2008 8:53 pm ET

This entire nomination process has be a farce. You asked for change, well you are going to get it. Obama has ZERO accomplishments people!!!

Look at at the Obamabots jumping on the Clinton bandwagon. Sickening. Truly sickening.

Hillary 2012 all the way!

john williams san diego, ca.   August 27th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

they had a PH.D on t.v. just say that he was disappointed that Hillary didn't say that she felt that obama was EXTREMELY qualified to be potus in her speech…I'll take her side on this one.

No Hillary = No Obama   August 27th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

Obama has been force-fed down our throats by a party who betrayed Hillary Clinton – who showed what true grit she really has by speech and her support of her inferior. Obama and McCain are both unacceptable candidates to lead this country. Obama is the most inflated candidate to come down the yellow brick road – the whole thing is a farce.

Mississippi   August 27th, 2008 8:46 pm ET

Hillary ran against Obama for the nomination, she said that she had concerns about his experience in several areas during her campaign. You can't expect her to NOW say that he is PREPARED to be the president. She shouldn't have to or be expcted to. That is Obama's job to prove his ability to AMERICA. May be he would if his supporters EXPECTED him to do so. He seems to be dodging that expectation.

Mr Dan Hill, why don't you give us your explanation of Michele Obama's body language during her convention speech and her response during her Hillary's speech?????

Also, why does almost every news/weather caster almost scream during their broadcast? Has no one told them they have a mic on?? We have to constantly adjust our volume up in order to hear the guest speaker because we MUST turn it down when the experience professional is speaking. NO JOKE this needs to be addressed,

G. Callander   August 27th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

As a Canadian watching this convention I was very pleased to see America changing their racist ways, Americans are viewed by most Canadians as very racist. I thought, they finally got it, we are all human beings, then suddenly all the talk is about the first black person to be a presidential candidate, the day Americans focus on the person in the running instead of their race, then and only then will they be truly united as a nation. It has been too long coming and I hope the attention changes to Obama the man, instead of Obama the black American.

cori   August 27th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

obama is so awesome. his views really make sense. we need to get out of iraq. we need a change!!!!!! save the polar bears!!!! save to country!!!!!!!! and lastly save me a seat at Mcains difeat speech!!

Buck12   August 27th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

Dear god, I never thought I'd see such a low point in our country's politics.

Thanks Dems, you've really screwed this one up. I've never heard of someone getting the nomination because of race and image, until now.

Wisest one of All   August 27th, 2008 8:34 pm ET

I never would have believed it but the DNC DID nominate that racist empty suit, Hussein Nobama. Democraps truly do hate the U. S. Proven fact!

Chris   August 27th, 2008 8:34 pm ET

"PUMAS ARE MORONS"
This sort of badgering bully work is why I won't be voting for Obama. I will not reward his campaign and his followers with my support for their thuggery. You are no different than Bush supporters after 2000. You have no grace as you demonstrate your true colors of petty vindictive abuse of those who disagree with you.

Marie in California   August 27th, 2008 8:32 pm ET

What a dumb, pre-scripted dog-and-pony show!

No way. No how. Nobama!

Chris   August 27th, 2008 8:31 pm ET

This is a dog and pony show. How insulting to all of us who went and voted only to have our vote converted against our will and turned into a cheerleading contest that was prearranged, was manhandled by the party bosses. I will never vote for a Democrat again. I don't care about this being Hillary Clinton. They shafted two other candidates I supported. The DNC is morally corrupt. It is ethically corrupt and high on its own vapors.

Colo Sprgs, CO   August 27th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

monica, it's simple, PUMAs are not patriots, and they are traitors to our beloved U.S.A. They would rather see it trashed and have the United States become the laughing stock of the world. These people should be castigated and spit on in public. The Democrats are now united and we are marching forward. Obama/Biden '08!

Anonymous   August 27th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Let's be completely honest with ourselves…OBAMA HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR PRESIDENT FOR ALL THE WRONG REASONS.

I said it before and I'll say it again; The only reason he's gotten as far as he has is because of his ethnicity. By default he is receiving all of the minority vote. You'd have to be a fool to not realize that.

py   August 27th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

Watching the news as one delegate, a Hillary Clinton supporter, was interviewed, I was amazed that he expressed that he may switch to McCain because of his disappointment with the Democratic party’s nominee.
There is also news that 30% of Clinton backers may defect to McCain as well.

How could anyone switch his or her vote to someone who stands for a completely different national policy based strictly on emotions.

Our government is in a dysfunctional state because some voters, including delegates, mindlessly voted the candidates into power.

Our vote must be based on a candidate’s ability as well as the national policy he or she stands for.

mango mama   August 27th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

The republicans have been in power way to long. When I came to america in 96 the democrats were in power and things were a thousand times better. My money was always plentiful but now I can not get a job. I can only buy the necessities in life. I tried to get a job with the government but they have a hiring freeze yet they want you to volunteer your time. How is that supposed to put food on the table for my kids? For the love of america vote for change. Vote for universal health care and a secure future for america's kids. I remember how strong the american economy once was. Vote for Obama it is our only chance to bring back america to what it used to be.

glenn   August 27th, 2008 8:20 pm ET

It was so wonderful to watch Hillary make the motion for Barack's nomination… two people who fought an intense battle with many hurt feelings left over came together and made peace in order to represent all people and all our opinions as best they can.

That's the American way.

Thank you Hillary supporters for taking all the criticism and for standing up for such a patriot and fighter for this country.

I look forward to seeing much more of her… and more states swaying to the Democratic side!!!

Let's get this country back where she belongs!!!!!

Vote Smart – Obama-Biden '08!

Stacey   August 27th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

The question now is simplified. Are you going to vote Republican or Democrat or 3rd party come time? (Or not vote at all). The Republicans hope you vote for them, or not vote, or vote 3rd party. They hope this because these votes will not work against them.

Therefore they seek to further exploit the division that has been in the Democrats. Do not be deceived! They will welcome you with open arms of course…and legislate against all the things that you truly desire as a democrat.

Do you not believe that they love pouring salt in the wounds they see and picking fights? They revel at this disunity.

By dividing they win. And if Obama loses, if the Democrat party loses…do you really think the Republicans will let McCain forget who got him into power? He is no more Maverick now than an old floppy shoe. He has sold his soul to the party for this nomination.

Mike, Vancouver   August 27th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

It is time to bring the PUMAs of old into the embrace of the United Democratic Party. We all have spoiled children to some degree, but that doesn't mean that we don't love them. Come on, join in…………

monica   August 27th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Can some PUMA please explain the difference between the Obama and Clinton campaigns? I cannot for the life of me see why someone will vote for HIllary one day and then Mcbush the next…..If it's easier then show the similarities between Hillary and mcbush…..It makes no sense what so ever, even last night during her speech Hillary herself urged people not to vote for mcold and here you all are
Is this what Hillary would want?

Dave   August 27th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

There is no doubt McCain will beat Obama in November. The polls are showing this and Obama did not get a bounce.
Hillary will run again in 2012 and win.

Z- the definition of acclamation is "an oral vote, esp. an enthusiastic vote of approval taken WITHOUT formal ballot." Hillary yielded to Obama by declaring acclamation. Obama HAS WON!!!! Get used to it!

Stand Up   August 27th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

Bottom line, this election year is a joke. One candidate is so far left and the other can't decide which side of the fence he is on. The American people deserves a candidate that will fight for the core values of our nation and people. Eloquent speeches and empty promises will not fix the economy, national security, domestic policies, etc. Until there is a candidate that is willing to stand up for our fundamental rights, you might as well brace yourselves for the next four years.

YOUR NOSE OFF TO SPITE YOUR FACE,GET OVER IT!!! Hillary has,why can't you? I won't say too much about the GOP right now,
because most of them should feel like idiots for believing that GW BUSH was qualified to lead our country. The good thing about that is
he can't get elected again. He has run his course, and so it's time for
him to ride off into the sunset as one of the WORST Presidents that
we ever had!!!! Enough of the divisions, let's come together as a
unified country, and get back on the right course.

Why would any Democrat (or Republican for that matter) vote for John McCain? I supported Hillary, but am now an Obama supporter. Even if you don't care for Obama, remember the Democratic platform and what it stands for. Can we survive 4 more years of a Republican president whose philosophy is similar to Bush's? I hope we don't have to find out!

Hillary's speech will not make all of her voters support Obama.
This is not a cult . We do not blindly do what she says. Whereas, Obama's followers do act like a CULT. They act like they would do whatever they "ALMIGHTLY LEADER" would tell them without questioning him.

Hillary's supporters are intelligent and make their own decisions. So do not put too much pressure on Hillary to "Deliver" her supporters.
We are not sheep.

Nan in Nevada   August 27th, 2008 7:08 pm ET

Hi Brain, California and Illinois yielded because if they had cast their votes, Obama would have been over the top before New York could vote. The closer he got to having enough votes, the more states had to yield (new Mexico yielded to Illinois who yielded to New York) so that HIllary could declare Obama by acclimation. It was very cool to watch! Go Mr. Obama!!!!!

Calm down people. We know that it has been a tough primary and it got ugly there for a while. This is now the time to unite and go for the greater good. Although I have been a staunch Hillary supporter and was particularly disappointed with the primary results, there are more important issues that should be addressed, and electing a Democrat this year is the initial step in solving our current problems (economy, energy, education, etc…). I still think that Obama is too green to lead this country, but if Hillary remains in the senate and accomplishes more with a Democratic president in place, I think she should be well positioned in 2012 or 2016.

I don't think that disparaging remarks against PUMA and other Hillary supporters would be productive at this point. Let's try to find some common ground, and help our democratic brothers and sisters to rally behind our nominated candidate for now.

Bob   August 27th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

What a shame. What a crock to watch this floor vote. Voting for McCain is not an option and the Democratic party poobahs decided to nominate the weaker candidate AGAIN. We could have had it all.
