Sen. Barack Obama takes a walkthrough of Invesco Field at Mile High on Wednesday night.

(CNN) – Standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28,1963, Martin Luther King Jr. shared his vision for a new America:

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal,' " he said before a crowd of hundreds of thousands.

Watch: Stadium readies for Obama

King's dream for a land where his children would "not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character" would be repeated, meditated upon and memorized for generations to come.

On the 45th anniversary of King's rousing call, Sen. Barack Obama will accept the Democratic nomination at INVESCO Field in Denver, Colorado. In what represents at least a partial actualization of King's dream, Obama will officially become the first African-American to lead a major party's ticket for president of the United States.

They live or die by the amount of division they sow!

I firmly believe that 90% (or more) of all hate-speech on these blogs come from republicans trying to drive a wedge between Democrats. There are "Obama Supporters" writing nasty, nasty stuff about "PUMAS" and vice versa. Believe me, they are all repubs and paid by Karl Rove.

If you are a true Democrat, either a supporter of Obama, or an actual PUMA, then don't take any nasty comment you see to heart. It is all coming from Karl.
Ignore the repubs comments and listen instead to the positive message from true Democrats!

This is for Phyllis and her comments on OBAMA Phyllis I sympathise with you it must be real HARD for you to take coming from a family with KKK history in your roots to see a African American running for the presidentsy of America ,as hard as it for all of you to understand, the very people you oppressed some fifty years ago have risen up way above people like you Phyllis, and the time will come for all of people like you to PAY THE PIPPER Phyllis,so get over your hatred before you rot from the inside-out………..GET ALIFE PHYLLIS

We have had a democratic congress for almost 2 years now, they
promised all kinds of changes and blamed the republicians for
not getting anything done. What have the democrats done for us so far?? Absolutley Nothing, a bunch of empty promises. Pelosi and Reid
should be thrown out. The same is going to be said for Obama..
ALOT OF EMPTY PROMISES. ANyone can stand up and promise to change this country, but you have to have the experience to do it and Obama does not.

Proud to be a Democrat.

Sorry to see McCain lose his credibility. What happened to the straight talk of yesteryear? Must not have scored well.

mel from Ohio   August 28th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Sen. Obama is a wonderful candidate for change. In the political climate of the last 8 years, the people of this great country have been used as steps for a group of people who only had their own concerns ($$$$$) in mind. They have risen to even greater wealth than they started with and the rest of us are suffering. Senator Obama will be more than a symbol, he will be a leader in the world theater!

Congratulations Democrats!!! The fight is over, reconciliation is achieved, now let your unity evolve into strength and use that to beat the Repuglicans!!! There is work, real hard work to be done!

The spin masters, hate and fear mongering machine of the GOP is hard at work, churning out all kinds of dirt, doubt and fear to confuse and scare simple-minded, low-information voters of America!

Democrats must find their voice, revamp their tactics and let everyone see Repuglicans for what they really are - selfish, greedy, fear and war mongers who will send American youth to fight unjustifiable wars while their companies reap unbelievable profits. Just look at the list of speakers at the uupcoming GOP convention - Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld …

Its time to ask - if he is so proud of his war CV, why wouldnt John McCain allow access to his war records? Why did McCain divorce his first wife? Why is his second wife's tax record off limits? These are the questions Democrats should be asking!

Wayne   August 28th, 2008 10:38 am ET

As an African American I've always been patriotic but now I understand the intense patriotism that whites feel about this country. Its the kind of patriotism and love of country you feel when you know your leadership reflects you, your family and your community. White people have felt this type of patriotism as a result of representative government for 232 years. It breeds confidence that you can make it if you try. With Obama, blacks have been able to enjoy this feeling for the last 6 months.

Yeah, except WOmen. Sexism MUST get equal attention is this country to racism. Right now, women are NOT equals….racism trumps sexism (how shameful….triumph over one is not more important than the other).

What a crock!

It's great that an African-American is being nominated for president….just the nomination is so important. I think though that Obama will not win….he has only style and charisma to offer (and after last nights speech by Biden, we know only Barrack has the charisma on that ticket )….and I think McCain/Romney will be seen as "strength, experience, and preparedness" personified.

You folks south of the border have to be wonderfully proud of yourselves tonight. You've done a great job in looking deeper, much deeper, into the character of a leader who wants to aid in lifting people up with hope, trust and hard work.
Absolutely inspiring!

The Obama rhetoric is VERY refreshing. The question is, "Is it real". Is there "meat" behind the rhetoric. Saying we need something different than what GWB gave us is already known. Tell us what it is that you going to do!! McCain will be well prepared to do this shortly.

Dan, FL   August 28th, 2008 10:33 am ET

Bill Clinton has flifloped. It is normal for people like Bill & Barack to say whatever they like and get away with it. They have big mouth and the media gives them too much exposure. They are good for nothing. Bill you are a retired president. it was a mistake that you became a president. You go down as Jimmy Carter. Go away.

Inspiration is fine but when it comes down to feeding the family no one will survive on speeches and inspiration………………….the dems need to talk about how they are gonna fulfill all these promises…………….let's get down and dirty with facts

I see a new race war comming - and the Democrats are going to lead the pack. If you don't vote for the Nobama, you'll be considered a racist, and if you do, you're voting for him because of his race, not because he knows anything about politics.

Don't tell me that race isn't an issue - it's going to be the dividing issue in this campaign.

I'm afraid for my children. I'm afraid that the black vs white is going to get ugly, and people, innocent people (not politicians - they wouldn't know innocent if it bit them on the foot) will be hurt and killed.

Here are the latest polls in some key states:
FL Obama +1
PA Obama +5
NM Obama +13
NV Obama +5
OH Obama +1
VA Obama +2

Here's a couple for McCain
CO McCain +1
NC McCain +3

And McCain only leads Obama by 6 in Arizona????????

Now, I agree with those who will undoubtly respond that you can't put too much stock in the polls and that it's early, but this is encouraging.

Obama has had some difficulty communicating his message for two reasons; (1) the McCain camp and right wing-nut media has been pouring buckets of mud on him (most of it fabrication, exaggeration, and innuendo) keeping him on the defense and (2) Obama has real world solutions that reflect the complexity of the problems we face, not oversimplified solutions that won't solve problems but make great sound-bites like McCain's.

Last night, you heard the sharpening of the message into more punchy bits that can be more easily communicated. With a team of surrogates to support Obama - Biden, Clinton, Clinton, Kerry, Richardson, etc. they will be able to simultaneously get the message out while combating all the unethical and untrue smears coming from McCain and others. 10 weeks to victory - a great team, a multitude of donors, an army of volunteers! WE ARE AMERICA AND WE WANT OUR COUNTRY BACK!!!!

Does anyone seriously believe that it's a coincidence that this anniversary falls on the day an African American accepts the Democratic nomination?

This kind of political theatre does not happen by accident.

This date has been in the calendar since at least January 2007 and key figures in the Democratic party have clearly manipulated the process to deliver the nomination to Obama.

BK   August 28th, 2008 10:25 am ET

I think when this is over a lot of Dems credibility is going to come into question. A motivational speaker with no experience running on judgement? There was a lot of people that said we should not go to war. A lot of people thought we should have went to Afganistan instead of Iraq. When the attacks starting increasing in Afganistan the generals on the ground said we need more troops. I can't believe Obama is trying to take credit for these statements that have been on the news for a long time. Obama must think the american people are really stupid.

Trey J.   August 28th, 2008 10:24 am ET

The time has finally come! Yeah it's happened the Democrats have elected an African American to lead their party. Let's be honest we didn't think this was possible, but here we are. I for one could care less if he was African American or not……………The fact is he's the one person that can bring our country together! Biden by his side is a winning ticket!
I can't wait to hear his speech tonight and I can only hope that he delivers it with the vigor that President Clinton and Hillary Clinton presented theirs.

It appears many democrats are swooning with convention fever and feel this election is all wrapped up. Frankly, the convention has seemed like a precisely scripted reality TV show (wonder if the Chinese helped with the production). The polls still show the race even and the real people on the street I see everyday here in fly-over country don't think very highly of Obama. I saw some interviews with young Obama supporters the other night who could not identify Pelosi, Biden, or Cheney, and could not articulate anything Obama plans to do if elected other than "change"; very telling.

I'm SO very PROUD of Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, they, despite what everyone thought, proved THEY ARE PROUD and LOYAL DEMOCRATS and are in it for all THE RIGHT REASONS! Everyone

We all know that whether you were for Hillary or Barrack, this isn't about THEM, it's about OUR COUNTRY and OUR FUTURE. Bill and Hillary proved that everyone who has been so "negative and divisive" are doing and saying things for their own selfish agendas, NOT IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE PARTY!!!

YOU will always have those folks that are NEVER satisfied unless they make everyone else miserable just like them. I'm SOOOOOO proud that the Clintons made it very clear that this isn't about them, this isn't about me or you. It's about ALL OF US, it's about our young men and women, the economy, high gas prices, healthcare, Iraq war, etc.

I'm so PROUD to be an American, I'm so PROUD to witness HISTORY in the making. I'm so filled with pride that my kids and grandkids are all ALIVE and WELL to witness history in the making. It doesn't matter if you are African American, Latino, Asian American, etc. We are ALL AMERICANS who want the same things for our families and our children's future. It's that simple.

When we STOP over analyzing, stop looking for all the "negatives" and start focusing on the "positives". There are TOO many "negatives" in the world every day, we DON'T NEED TO ADD misery to our lives un-necessarily.

THE DEMOCRATS ARE FIRED UP AND READY TO GO!!! LET'S MAKE HISTORY TOGETHER. WE'VE DONE IT BEFORE, WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!!

I am 80 years old. I am white. I have seen many many elections. I have never seen the word"comander in chief" used in any one of them. Why does a war lord become so important? No one threatens our security, but we threaten the security of any nation that has rich oil potential. Can the problems of oil not be settled by diplomacy instead of war? We are not the only nation dependent on oil. I think the war mongers would rather see war than sharing peacefully this vital liquid, because they want to make more profit and total control over oil means more money for them. Does the lives of innocent people and our young men sent out to die mean so little to them? I will vote for Obama

I still don't know anything about this guy or his actually thoughts on POLICY. Yes, I think he's a great speaker/motivator, but that does me no good if your going to increase my taxes, call home our troops before it's time, or not even drill on our own soil.

I just hope that CNN gives McCain's choice for VP the same amount of coverage they gave for Biden. We'll see.

All of you who disparage Barack do not have the country's best interest in mind. In fact, you are paying little attention to the facts and only listening to the parroted nonsense of the GOP, Hannity, Rush, and all the neo-cons. Barack is more than ready. He will lead this country with dignity and honor, not fear and oppression. If you want more encroachment on our privacy, higher taxes, more deaths in illegal wars, more hatred from our allies, than vote McCain. But know this, you do your country and all of us a disservice by casting your vote for the GOP again! Another 4 year mistake is not what we need. We need a leader who has PROVEN to be able to make correct and thoughtful decisions. Those on the fence, please listen and pay attention. All of McCain's ads are thoughtless, mindless fearmongering, trying to scare you into voting GOP. There is nothing of substance there and nothing that shows what McCain will provide this nation. Why? Because he knows he voted 95% on the side of Bush, the lowest rated president in the history of our country. Do you know what that means? That means that McCain will end up being on that level as well. DON'T DO THIS TO OUR COUNTRY!!!! If you love our country, vote for Barack/Biden.

Susan   August 28th, 2008 10:14 am ET

I think a lot of people in the DNC are going to be surprised when they find out that by their forcing Hillary & Bill to bow down to their demands that there are still a heck of a lot of people who are not going to vote for Obama. The DNC and Obama had Hillary stop the roll call because they knew if they did not that Hillary would win. Most Americans are not stupid and realize what is going on and by still trying to equate McCain to Bush is not going to work for any intelligent person because the Republicans disliked him. He has always worked across party lines. You all keep saying he voted the same as Bush but look at Obama's record, he voted with Bush (most of time when he bothered to vote and not just show up). What is really funny is that Obama voted to give the oil companies $13 billion in subsidies and McCain and Hillary did not. Also, he voted with Bush as much as John did. That is a fact! Look in your own backyard before you try to destroy someone elses'!

Silver   August 28th, 2008 10:14 am ET

I do not understand the phrase Africa-American…..Is Obama not an American? Does that mean I have to say I am German-English-Indian-American? Why can he not be simply an American running for president.

There is no way anyone, especially Obama, should compare him self in any form to the Great Martin Luther King. Riding on the dream of another to win votes is nothing more than an act of desperation.

As a Democrat, I will not vote for Obama and his 'token' good-old-white-boy!

Being a POW does not make you qualified to be President. But it also shows you don't know how to win a war since you got shot down and held captive for 5 long years. You could not figure out how not to get caught in the first place and could not figure out how to escape once you were caught. How does this make you a qualified leader?

JIM...TX   August 28th, 2008 10:09 am ET

I have one question for all of the conservatives. Where is the Diversity in your party? America is made up of people from all over the world, so why don't we see this representation in your party? If you want to see some real Diversity, check out the crowd this evening at the final DNC convention.

Jan From Boca Raton, Fl   August 28th, 2008 10:09 am ET

Lets face it folks, Obama is no Martin Luther King and never will be.

MLK had years of experience trying to pull this nation together,Obama has none.

AnyOfThe3WillDo   August 28th, 2008 10:07 am ET

Do not align Obama with MLK. It's disrespectful. King worked very hard, fought, was jailed, and went places no others would or could during that time in America and he sacrificed himself and family. Most of all he was not a politician but a real man who understood that through hard work you gain experience, with self sacrifice and example you can lead, when you show yourself to be a leader of a few, more will follow, when gain the followers, you speak your dream.

Obama has done none of this and all we hear is he's like JFK, MLK what about being himself. Is it because the real him is just hot air? He is not great in anyway. He's black and so am I but it does not make me great, you keep calling him articulate, I am too and a lot of other African Americans.

MLK was a leader and still is all these years after his death. Obama is not a leader and has a lot to learn.

This is a disgrace to MLK' surviving family to keep saying this.

Have you read Time's interview with McCain yet? One thing that comes through quite clearly is… McCain is ashamed of himself. That anger and defensiveness is how shame often manifests itself. He's ashamed of the nasty campaign he's running. I believe he actually wanted to run the clean campaign he initially talked about, but when he fell behind in the polls, he let his advisors take over the tone, and they made a liar of him. And now he's ashamed of himself for selling out his ideals and his honor. And, he should be.

Obama has never used MLK for his own gain are we watching the same election? People truly do have different and strange views on the same issues. He doesn't bring up race nor have I ever seen him as the black candidate. I know this to be true because one minute he's too black the next not black enough. It borthers people that he isn't well define as the black candidate like Jackson was when he ran for president. And we all know what jackson said about obama proving once in for all he's running to be president of the United States of America not just Black America. Today is a symbolic day and let's not forget the DNC convention was plan 1 year ago to be in Denver how ironic yet important that obama accepts his nomination today. Where America has choosen to look beyond color but character. Obama/Biden 08!

I hate to spoil the significance, but isn't Barack's mom caucasian? Where is that being represented in all the hype? The media should be, and so should the people, proud of the fact that Barack is a mixed race individual. This should embolden the stance of Dr. King's word, "not by the color of our skin"!

BlueDogDem   August 28th, 2008 10:02 am ET

It is becoming increasingly clear that many of these former PUMAS used Hillary Clinton to veil their unwillingness to support an African American for President. Now that they don't have her as a shield, they are using "experience" or that Barack has "bought and paid for" the support of the Clintons, or that he is only in this for himself.

As horrible as it would be, I would appreciate you people coming clean and just saying you are racist and won't vote for an African American…just like many did in the West Virginia primary…at least then you would get credit for honesty.

DJ in TX   August 28th, 2008 9:58 am ET

To the comment from John - Thanks for your comment. This is the kind of civil debate that is needed. You voice your opinion without being nasty or hateful. And as you state, you can at least appreciate the moment even if you disagree with the candidate.

I work with a guy that describes as uber conservative, so far to the right that you can't reach that far:-). We chat, disagree, state our opion, but at the end of the day, we can hang out and go have a beer together.

We are ALL Americans, whether Democrat, Republican, Independent, no matter your religion, no matter your race or whatever - at the end of the day, let's all remember that we are Americans first. Agree to disagree, debate, and then shake hands when its all over.

God Bless America

it's no surprize to me that JOHN MCCAIN is making fun of the colums that BARACK OBAMA is going to stand before to make his speech after all he did not VOTE for KINGS federal holiday if you notice DR MARTIN LUTHER KING made his I HAD A DREAM speech before the COLUMS on the WASHINGTON DC MALL ,MCCAIN seems to have no RESPECT for BLACK people and this is his way of telling us so MCCAIN should re-think his position on running for president and any one who is voting for him needs to watch who they are following BARACK OBAMA is trying to bring people together not separate them

To John-Houston

Veterans are also skeptical of McCain's plans because as a senator, he has repeatedly voted against fully funding veterans' health care. In 2005 and 2006, McCain voted against expanding mental health care and readjustment counseling for service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. He also voted against efforts to expand inpatient and outpatient treatment for injured veterans, and against proposals to lower the copayments and enrollment fees that veterans must pay to obtain prescription drugs.

Read Senator McCain's full speech to the VFW announcing his health card plan.

McCain's vote also helped defeat a proposal by Sen. Debbie Stabenow that would have made veterans' health care an entitlement program such as social security, so that medical care would not become a political football to be argued over in Congress each budget cycle.

The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America gave McCain a D+ when they scored his voting record, whereas Obama got a B+. In addition McCain has voted with the interests of Disabled American Veterans only 20 percent of the time.

"If McCain would work to properly fund VA care, there would be no issue about a VA card," said Larry Scott, who edits the Web site VAWatchdog.org. "McCain, by wanting to give vets private care, is walking away from the VA and ignoring the problem. He is admitting that he will not properly fund the VA to the level where it can care for all qualified vets. "

The Obama supporters only love the Clintons when they are saying nice things about their candidate. This election hinges on whether americans really want to elect someone with no experience as their president. Obama wins if america thinks this is ok.

When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"
-Martin Luther King Jr, I Have A Dream speech, 1963

All Martin Luther King Jr could do was lead, organize communities, and give pretty speeches. He was ridiculed for it. He was jailed for it. Ultimately, he was killed for it. But he changed the US, and he changed the world.

To save my life, I cannot believe enough Americans are so ignorant and gullible as to worship this man - who by the way is not african-American, he is an American (we think!) and he is half-white. Why not say he is bi-racial or white American??? He is silver-tongued, that is for sure, and is telling people just what they want to hear. Some of us are more in tune with the real world than his celebrity, elitist world. John McCain is the only man for this job. I shudder to think what America will be like if ob gets in. By the way, he stole the Republican line "God bless you and God bless America"! Gee, he's bringing God into it now at the end of his campaign???

Funny how none of you can speak about McCain's economic plan, or how McCain will restore America's prominece when it comes to education, how McCain will create jobs etc, no domestic plan is being stated by either McCain nor his supporters. You all speak of National Security, Foriegn Policy etc, how do you expect to combat Terrorism, when no want's to join the Military, how can you pay for New Technology, Better border and port security, when at this poit the United States couldn't by a pack of gum on credit. You bet it is, because Americans — at least the Democratic Party — has recognized, after 45 years, that strength of character trumps skin color.

Obama's the right guy at the right time. He's got my vote. I hope he has yours.

The last 2 nights of the convention were great with the Clintons. I was disappointed that they slapped Bill Clinton in the face with putting Kerry and Richardson after him. They should have had Pres. Clinton introduce Biden or had him give his speech tonight to introduce Obama. These others haven't accomplished including Obama nothing compared to what President Clinton has and all ill feelings aside I thought it was very disrespectful of Obama and his campaign. Pres. Clinton stole the show and the speech's after were ZZZZ after listening to our former DEM. President speak. Biden does nothing for this ticket and as soon as his hot head temper gets going he will be Gaffee Duck.

I just have to say why is Al Gore on tonight he wasn't President of the US he was a loser just like Kerry was. This would be an outstanding attack add for McCain that Obama gives 2 losers a better speaking spot than a former President. hahaha This is the change we can believe in.

Obama, the next president   August 28th, 2008 9:50 am ET

All of these people who think that Obama is not ready to be president saying he's too young and inexperienced are delusional. Bill Clinton endured the same kind of talk as Obama is going through and look what kind of president he turned out to be. Those Hillary supporters who are choosing McCain over Obama, are just making it plain in my eyes that no minority should be allowed to be president, and on the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's speech it's said to say we still have a long way too go.

While Senator Obama's accomplishment is historical and I'm sure he would be very proud at this moment, Dr King would also notice that this is NOT the end of the struggle. There is still a lot of work to be done. No doubt things are way better than previously, but let's not be fooled into thinking it is where it needs to be.

There is still much work to be done in our OWN communities. In my view, there are still too many with the thinking that we are OWED something. The future is our young people. With them, you are starting to see more harmony between different people. I have a picture of my son (African American), my neighbor's kid (Hispanic) and their friend (his dad is African) all arm in arm. It is my favorite.

That is the dream that Dr King had. He would love to come down my street and see neighbor's of different races talking to each other, our kid's playing around with each other. It is a wonderful thing to see.

Congratulations to Senator Obama on his achievement. No matter what happens from here, your accomplishment should be notice to all - no matter where you come from, with dedication, hard work, sacrifice, and yes a little help, you can do whatever you want.

He is in it to win it for all of us. We are tired and just plain sick and tired of not being able to reach our dreams.

Biden and Obama are very humble. It wasn't given to them, they had to work hard for it. They know what it is like.

McCain done it by marrying into riches are riding off of someone else. If you are not careful he will ride on America and the world if you let him. He will draw animosity from the world because he does not want to talk nor compromise on anything except for his own ambitions.

Thank You Hillary, Chelsea and Bill for backing Barack Obama as our candidate.

to-proud army and navy mom—-why do you object to free vouchers for private medical care for veterans? As a nurse, I have full confidence that private clinics would give top notch care to vets. public clinics are good, as well, but have longer wait times than private clinics. Why should vets not be afforded the same care as the wealthy? That is what John McCain wants. No one is more empathetic to vets than McCain. Please stop trying to undermine his Patriotism to his country.

Why can't we hear the speeches on TV (Not on the computer) without all the repetitious talk from CNN commentators. You grossly underestimate your viewing public. We can listen and evaluate the speaker ourselves. Both CNN & MSNBC were guilty of this. TO John: Does this answer your question?

recent study by the RAND Corporation found that "VA patients were more likely to receive recommended care" and "received consistently better care across the board, including screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up" than that delivered by other U.S. health care providers.

Virtually all veterans groups oppose McCain's plan. The Veterans of Foreign Wars' national legislative director has said the VA card would "undermine the entire system."

I am tired of hearing Wolf Blitzer repeat "African-American" as a description of Barack Obama. He is a man. Period. To Wolf and anyone else at CNN who keeps reminding the public of this man's color: You are perpetuating racism! We can see — with our eyes — that he's not white. I don't need Wolf Blitzer reminding me, constantly, that he's not white.

Every time someone in the media reminds their audience that a person is "African-American" it makes it easy for the public to continue to distinguish between black people and while people, and it keeps racism alive. You are not helping the cause — you are hurting it, in my humble opinion.

Your medical correspondent who is of Indian descent — do you constantly remind us that he's dark-skinned? NO! Please stop it with Barack Obama.

Would you keep reminding us that Oprah is "African-American?" No you don't. She is an accomplished and successful woman, and Barack is an accomplished and successful man. Drop the reminders about his race. It's an insult to all of us who can see for ourselves, and you are hurting every African American by reminding the public that they are different. I am a white woman. Did you tell your audience that Hillary was the first Caucasian woman to almost be nominated? No you didn't. You omitted the "caucasian part" and just left the gender part. Enough already about Barack's color. We are not blind!

Accused the Clintons, of all people, of racism. Accuses anyone who sees any of his faults as racist. The pied piper of politics, leading the people astray. I am very proud of this historical moment in American History. This is why I am so proud to be an AMERICAN.

GOD BLESS THE USA!

McCain!   August 28th, 2008 9:34 am ET

It is obvious that it is taking the white establishment to propel Obama to victory, figures.

Go McCain!!!

Billy Ray Valentine-Capricorn   August 28th, 2008 9:34 am ET

All I have to say is "America." This is what the constitution intended. I couldn't be more proud. This is for all the people who have fought for our freedom and civil rights. From the American Revolution till now, what a country "God Bless America."

STOP THE DRAMA
VOTE OBAMA

Republican for Obama   August 28th, 2008 9:33 am ET

This obama movement is refreshing. Im so proud off this country. Hope over fear is a great message. McCain and Romney will attack because they have no plans to change anything from the bush administration

Justin from Boston   August 28th, 2008 9:32 am ET

I only wish I could be there tonight, as it is one more spike placed in the railroad that brings our country back on track. More than anything, Barack has proven to be an intelligent human being, who can listen to other intelligent people and apply this information to a sound ethical background. Won't it be nice having a president who actually has the ability to think for themselves while the humility to admit when they are wrong? Remember when George Bush couldn't even answer the question about identifying his greatest mistake? Joe Biden will keep Obama level, and never let him forget the process that brought him here. Is Obama a celebrity? Yes. But that is because so many people see the hope he will bring, and the changes he will make. It's a natural charisma, the best kind of unifying energy.

For all those crying in the closet about having a president who is different from those who came in the past, that is ok. You will not be needed to win this election. If the "poll of polls" were calling any of us 20-30 year olds who don't have land lines and rely on blackberries and cell phones, the spread would be double digits. We are a new generation ready to overcome your instilled prejudices. This post-American world has left you behind, and we are ready to embrace a time when America cooperates with others instead of dominates them. We are ready to get our respect back around the world, and you can't stop us. Keep your photo albums of your typical, white, anglo-saxon protestant presidents, because you won't see another for quite some time.

And frame the paystubs where you were making more than your female counterparts, you can show your grandkids some day.

Congratulations Barack. We won't let you down.

Mistake   August 28th, 2008 9:31 am ET

I was excited about Obama giving his speech at Invesco Field when it was announced, however I think this is a mistake. It is way over the top. I don't think he will win over the voters he need to just because 50k more people will be in attendance during his speech.

The Obama campaign need to realize this election is not about him, as historic as it is, it is about the American people.

Matt: honestly   August 28th, 2008 9:31 am ET

Wow, could there be more hate coming from the Republican supporters right now? It is about time we had a leader who wants to reignite the American Spirit. No, the world is not a great place. What is wrong with having a leader who sees the best in people, strives for peace, not war, and is actually INTELLIGENT AND NOT SOME COWBOY WHO WANTS TO JUMP IN EVERY COUNTRY'S FACE THAT DOES NOT AGREE WITH HIM!

stone   August 28th, 2008 9:31 am ET

No speech or series of speeches can make up for Obama's lack of experience. Did anyone see Michael Dukakis on air last night? Alan Colmes and Sean Hannity of FoxNews asked him to name a single major accomplishment of Barack Obama that qualifies him to be president. His answer: integrity issues. He also stuttered, stammered and struggled to explain his answer but couldn't. I think Obama is in big trouble because he is not ready to be president despite what Bill Clinton says.

The dream is now a reality

Southerner   August 28th, 2008 9:29 am ET

The Democratic party should rename itself the Emotionally Gratuitous Obamaphiles. The acronym would be EGO. That would be a far better descrition than "democratic" which doesn't fit well at all.

Well stated!

Obama is laughable!!!!

Amy   August 28th, 2008 9:28 am ET

The irony is that Obama is the candidate precisely because he IS black. The dems are feeding their own egos and want the props they can get from being the first party to select a candidate of color. That said, the dems are Shari Lewis and Obama is Lambchop.

If you want to see a real freak show, watch oshama's show tonight. Should have been held under the big top like a three ring circus with nothing but clowns.

john   August 28th, 2008 9:27 am ET

I couldn't be more pro-McCain or more anti-Obama. But even I appreciate how historic this moment is. I don't consider his race a reason to vote for or against him but wow, what an accomplishment. What a moment.

Let's just hope that we wait 4 or 8 years to ELECT the first black president (J.C. Watts? Alan Keyes? Michael Steele? Herman Cain? I'll take any of those guys!).

Proud American   August 28th, 2008 9:27 am ET

I am ready for a change. We gave Bush 8 years. We don't need 4 more years of the same with McCain. Everyone knows that change is hard. However, I think we should give Obama a chance to lead our country. I think he is the best person to unite our country again. I never thought I would see the day that an African American had the chance to lead the United States of America. Instead of being scared of the possibilities let's embrace them. Lets join together and work for a safe place to live, a country with sound economics, and a country that will be respected around the world.

Paul Dobro   August 28th, 2008 9:27 am ET

Hey "Barack O Blah Blah is NOT ready to lead" must be "I am John McCain and I approve of this blogger".

Why not try to digest what the campaigns are trying to force feed you with thorughtful analysis instead of just puking it back up?

reason and balance   August 28th, 2008 9:27 am ET

I'm a centrist (slightly right leaning on some issues, slightly left on others). I represent the vast silent majority of people in this country outside of NY and California. Millions of square miles of territory. I listened to Bill's speach last night and I thought he did a great job, BUT this is something that stuck with me. He said - remember what happened when we had republicans controlling all three branches of government. It really didn't work out. Unlike him I believe that they were well intentioned and thought that unhindered they could change the world for the better. Fact is they didn't. BUT the reason is simple- NO BALANCE. They were in control of house, senate and white house, all three. You can't make good decisions when there is no balancing opposing view that you need to reconcile with. SO… This is going to be BAD! The democrats are just as well intentioned but if they hold all three parts (house, senate and white house) they will fail just as miserably and we will suffer even more for it. People, we need balance and comprimise in government. So you really think a far left president, a far left majority leader in the senate and Nancy Pelosi can unite the country (All of the country!) or just swing the pendulum all the way back in the other direction as payback to Bush. WE NEED THE SENATE AND HOUSE TO BE CONTROLLED BY DIFFERENT PARTIES AND A CENTRIST PRESIDENT FOR REAL PROGRESS FOR EVERYONE. Think about it.

Independent for McCain   August 28th, 2008 9:27 am ET

I'm an American, not a socialist. May the best man win, but Obama is not the best man. Since when has America become a country of whiners and appeasers. No one likes war. No American is a "warmonger", this is all nonsense created to manipulate the uneducated. We need to stop the "cookie cutter" questioning of these candidates and have some real debates. Today, one can't even walk down the street without offending somebody. The left has gone too far in his country, we all need to move back toward the middle .

Spencer from VA   August 28th, 2008 9:27 am ET

On this historic day and on the anniversary of the I have a dream speech, break out your boats people of Denver because there will be tears flowing like rivers. It has been a long time coming, but I know a change is going to come. Oh yes it will!
