McCain only talked with Palin once before choosing her.

(CNN) — John McCain first met Sarah Palin only six months ago and had just one conversation with the Alaska governor before offering her the vice presidential slot on the Republican ticket, the Arizona senator's campaign said Friday.

The move appears to be a marked departure for McCain — a man known for his tendency to surround himself with a close circle of advisers and politicians he has long felt comfortable with.

But according to the McCain campaign, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee first met Palin in Washington at a February 2008 National Governors Association meeting. He was immediately impressed with the 44-year-old rising GOP star, and decided to consider her for the vice presidential slot.

McCain campaign manager Rick Davis had several conversations with Palin throughout the vetting process, but McCain himself didn't speak with the Alaska governor until last Sunday — one day after Barack Obama named Joe Biden to his ticket. It was then McCain reached Palin by phone while she was at the Alaska State Fair to discuss the possibility of joining the ticket.

Palin then traveled to Flagstaff, Arizona Wednesday evening, where she met with top McCain advisers Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter. On Thursday Palin traveled to McCain's Sedona, Arizona home where the Arizona senator had another conversation with her, and formally asked her to be his running mate.

Most bloggers want a chance to vent: many have good things to contribute no matter how "unique" the spelling. This very long list of
contributers seems to indicate that the pulse of "the public" is in serious trouble. We can't seem to grasp the enormity of the ability of
those in power to be reckless with our lives, even after many years of
constant demonstration. Obama is right when he tells us that this
election is not about him or his opposition…but about us, those of us who vote. SO, good people, VOTE.!!!! But THINK, first, last and often
about which candidate shows intelligence and good judgement.

I'll be honest…people sometimes get pinched in politics, but at the end of the day, candidates know very well that they must shake hands at the end - winner or loser. I am for Obama and respected McCain - but today I lost respect for McCain. He essentially insulted my mother and my two sisters by simply telling them that he will use them to get get them to vote for him. He was willing to put the entire free world at risk for political pompus. I am convinced that Barack and Biden will lead us into the next century. They will crush Republicans like bugs.

Paul From California   August 30th, 2008 2:40 am ET

This is political pandering at its worst. McCain's choice says it all:

1.) his energy policy is to drill domestically for more oil; in comparison, Obama's is to wean us off all oil within 10 years. McCain is betting that the American electorate will choose the short-term instant gratification over the longer term. He is obviously beholden to Big Oil.

I watched part of a piece on Palin today where she was saying that the drilling in the ANWR would leave a miniscule footprint. You are probably correct. Governor, BUT, once you open a door an inch, too often it is kicked all the way open, and in our children's future that tiny miniscule footprint becomes more of a crater.

2.) He is trying to appease the conservative base - which he needs to win, AND get Hillary supporters. He will energize the conservatives with this pick, but he has grossly underestimated women. My spouse, a Republican, is absolutely LIVID over this selection. I am having a difficult time calming her down! She is now firmly in the Obama camp. Most, if not ALL, Hillary supporters supported Hillary not because she wore a skirt or pantsuit to work, but because of the ISSUES she championed - which Palin is on the other side of the spectrum on most of them. Only the extremely ticked off Hillary supporters who took Hillary's loss personally will move over to McCain because of this selection. If her values were more in-line with Hillary supporters. it might be a different story. McCain is more likely trying to energize the Republican and independant women - but as my wife shows - he might have difficulty doing that. My wife is offended.

Another thought - as to her comment about being too busy to know much about the war in Iraq - sounds like a dodge there. Also, if my son were going off to fight a war in a distant land, I would make darn sure that I understood EVERYTHING about where he was going, why he was going, how the war was going, and on and on and on…. doesn't anyone else think THAT is strange?

Nate   August 30th, 2008 2:39 am ET

A good Independent candidate could really sweep in and steal some votes in this election, especially after McCain's pick for VP.

Andrew   August 30th, 2008 2:34 am ET

I have an idea for you, John McCain. You should open a Myspace account. I saw a profile of this one guy - one year city council member of Podunck, Iowa (pop 99), and he's half black, 1/4th hispanic, and 1/4th Asian - plus he's gay. Perfect to win over black, hispanic, Asian and gay votes. You should email him - he would be perfect as Secretary of State. Remember, 'country first'!

WOW…whether a Rep or Dem, you gotta admit that this is truly turning out to be the Most exciting election year yet. This move by McCain staffers is brilliant, because there will be women out there that'll vote for his ticket solely based on gender. Just like there will be ppl that will or wont vote for Barack based on race. Fundamentally, this is what our country boils down to folks, Race & Gender. I just hope that the "neutral perspective" has a strong enough Voice to win on the Issues, not the -isms.

I believe that Senator McCain is a very self-serviing individual. Not only has he chosen a woman of very little experience, he has also chosen a woman with children. Her obligation is not to McCain and his political agenda but to her family, If she is such a staunch conservative who decided not to have an abortion and knowing full well that she would be having a Down's Syndrome child–why is she putting this four month old baby aside for her political ambitions? All day she has been tauted as a conservative gun-toting, fish-loving maverick like McCain and in the background walks her husband with her baby! If elected would her priorty be to sick Down's Syndrome child or a trip to the Middle East? Shame–she will either abandon the obligation to the baby she chose to have or her obligation to the USA–Wonder Woman she is not! These two politically irresponsible mavericks have lost my vote. A Conservative in NM

I would rather have inexperience at the top as long as experience was on the bottom to help and also teach the top along the way because if something happens to the top, experience can take over and we would be in pretty much good hands. If experience was on the top and inexperience on the bottom and if something happens to the top then inexperience would take over and then we all would be s$rewed.

Brian Austin,TX   August 30th, 2008 2:15 am ET

This is purely an act of desperation. America this is an example of how Republicans play politics.

If you elect this out of touch old (would be the oldest elected in history) man it is bad enough.

To leave it to this woman who lives in her own world out in the corner of the Earth, has hardly any experience (WAY less than Obama, to all you Obama haters), and is purely a ploy to get votes for the twisted and failure guaranteed agenda in play is irresponsible and absurd.

This country does not just desperately need, but IS READY FOR Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

Please Americans you have to know by now what is going on.

For the love of our country and countrymen (and women).

VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN in 2008!!!

Starr Dittmann WA   August 30th, 2008 2:12 am ET

Oh Lord, McCain is fidgeting in her entrance speech. He fiddles with his fingers continuously. She seems to be slightly trying to face this new surprise… it shows all over her face that she does not feel she deserves this position. Honestly, do you really want her to be our NEXT PRESIDENT … in case John McCain succumbs to sickness or worse? He is too old to run for the next 4 years and THIS WOMAN is NOT EXPERIENCED enough to make Presidentianl decisions. You know, if she had a civil rights movement or was shown giving more than (worrying about how she looks) I might have thought it was ok but she does not take HILLARY CLINTONS place. Barack Obama and HIllary worked hard the past 2 years in their campaigning. OBama has struggled through his entire life and this woman Sarah, … people said they did not know OBAMA and he chose Biden due to his strong political experience and the experience in foreign policy plus being the chairman of the committee. THis woman is much less experienced than OBAMA or any other republican governor, mayor, senator or otherwise. The only reason John chose her was to lure women voters and side swipe men voters with her looks as it is already working on GLENN BECK… He is totally mesmerized by her looks and changed his mind about McCain because of a young beautiful inexperienced woman.. hahahaha Glenn you are a joke!!!

Drew, Memphis   August 30th, 2008 2:12 am ET

All the anti-Palin aruguments on here have been completely ignorant and ridiculous for two reasons:

1: How can anyone doubt Palin for the sole reason of lack of experience? Her experience is more than comparable to that of Barack Obama, Democratic nominee for PRESIDENT!!! If Obama wins we get a President with NO EXPERIENCE… just hype and talk… Time after time after time, the Democratic talking heads (CNN) are asked one question, "List specific examples of Obama's experience and platform"… And time and time again they fail to answer the question… (i.e. Dukakis, Cafferty, etc…)

2: All of the so-called "Hillary supporters" who are so outraged that McCain chose Palin should be ashamed of themselves. I guarantee that 95% of the negative Palin comments have been based solely on 5 minutes CNN information. Do your homework, research her platform, develop your OWN opinion. If after that you are still so "outraged" then so be it.

pearl of wisdom   August 30th, 2008 2:10 am ET

In most of the blogs, supporters of McCain are hailing Sarah Palin as this "no nonsense woman…reformer not afraid to go head to head with the politicians of any party". I have to laugh at this because for her to be such a "reformer" and "no nonsense" she sure fell for the non sense of McCain. I dont mean to sound insulting but she doesnt stand for strong women across this country. She is actually playing the role of a pawn for the republican party, and that is a sign of a very weak woman. She should have stood up against this nomination. Maybe then I would have voted for her and McCain

Equules   August 30th, 2008 2:10 am ET

McCain is insane! He had Romney for economy! Giuliani, 911 NY hero! Condaleeza Rice! Much more name recognition! He just went for someone no one really knows, not even himself! This choice was a total last minute act of desperation! I'm shocked that Palin would allow herself to be used this way, target Hillary supporter's and think that just because she is a "woman," she can gain their support, when they don't even agree on important issues. Hillary, she's NOT!!! The secret mystere' has been announced and I think there are a lot of voter's that are more than disapointed. They are worried! Hope is fading fast for the republicans who were waiting with anticipation for a more intelligent choice, only to be shocked and disapointed instead. I imagine McCain's convention will probably put me to sleep! It's time to cross the party divide, unite and become one America. I'm on board with Barack!

Susan, Wyo   August 30th, 2008 2:09 am ET

As a Democrat I am thrilled at the spectacular stupidity of McCain's choice; surely this pandering to the far-right will open the eyes of independents. To the Hillary supporters who said they're voting for McCain because of Palin (an anti-environmentalist anti-choice creationist wack job) - buh-bye, you're idiots who won't be missed. We'll register new voters who unlike you have the ability to think instead of shooting from the hip.

McCain just needed to get some play, that's why he picked her.

Hey all you Clinton supporters who are supposedly insulted by the choice of Palin,You are all big hypocrites in the true sense of the word!!

Why is it so amazing when a woman is running for President as long as she is a Democrat??? When a Republican who is a woman is actually nominated it's an insult because she doesn't agree with YOUR views???
Your Savior Obama put himself first and his personal feelings against Hillary and CHOSE NOT to pick her even if it meant losing 18 million votes!!
All you liberals are the same, your for CHOICE as long as its YOUR choice. There is no such thing as having an opinion other than yours !! To CHOOSE NOT to have an abortion and choosing LIFE. Can it be so horrible CHOOSING not to take the life of a baby?

Of all people, Obama should not be critical of Palin's resume. She does have more executive experience than Obama. Palin is a quarterback, not a cheerleader.

It's funny that people like to continue to mention McCain's failed marriage. What was Obama doing during that time period? Wasn't he investing his time in drug use?

Slider   August 30th, 2008 2:02 am ET

I just read Begala's report card on the choosing of Palin, and it is exactly the response I would expect from a Progressive steeped in the sewers of Leninist thought.

How could anyone with such a high forehead have such a Cro-magnon mentality.

J.V.Hodgson   August 30th, 2008 2:00 am ET

A maverick doing maverick things but a strong political drive in the choice i.e to get at disgruntled Hilary supporters and other women voters. There was no consideration of CIC aspects, Economy, health care etc experience/judgement…well???. Is she a potential President ?( Quite important I understand to you the Media and voters!?) If those do not rebound against the Republicans, something is just not quite right somewhere!?

John   August 30th, 2008 1:59 am ET

John McCain has let this country down. The first job of a Presidential candidate is to choose a running mate that is capable of becoming President. This is particularly true for one who is old and in frail health. If John McCain were to die or retire for health reasons, we would leave our military under the control of a woman who has less than two years' experience governing one of our smallest states. This is unconscionable.

Before you argue the same goes for Obama, consider that when Obama ran he had to convince voters that he had the ability to lead despite his resume. It is possible that a person could be ready for the job without a heavy resume, but it was up to us to decide. He convinced Americans that he was ready to lead. He now has a former President vouching for his abilities. Whether you believe he is ready now or not, he still had to prove it.

John McCain, having chosen someone unqualified based on nothing more than his gut (or, worse, politics) has potentially put this country in danger.

LaVon K Hummel   August 30th, 2008 1:56 am ET

I didn't know McCain was santa claus… He is though. When I woke up today and turned on my TV.. there she was Parlin, the most wonderful gift a democrate could get. thankyou santa, McCain.

Holy Moley   August 30th, 2008 1:55 am ET

Holy political spin Batman! This is a total disaster. No one can honestly say if John McCain dies that Palin could be commander in chief. Now before the spin doctors descend … if the same happened to Barack Obama (heaven forbid it happen to either — they're both honorable men) then Joe Biden would take the reigns.

Let me think — Biden or Palin.

Done thinking. The answer is obvious. Biden is by far the better VP choice with his extensive experience. He's the best back up. Palin cannot stand on her own as commander in chief. She simply hasn't got the experience. Being a mayor and short-term governor isn't good enough.

Also, Barack was chosen by 18million people. They believe he has the experience to move forward. So comparing his experience (in the Senate no less) to Palin's is ludicrous. Did everyone suddenly forget about his history?

Honestly, this Republican move holds no sway. BTW — what about economics? Mitt Romney must be going crazy right now …

I was a hippy, commune member in the 1960 and 70's (lived in Berkeley), consider myself a "new ager" (so to speak) as well as a spiritual person, However, as I have aged and gained in wisdom and service, my values, my ideals, my beliefs coicide with conservative values. I was a Hilary supporter, and when she was not chosen I decided to go for McCain. Now that he has chosen Palin my heart rejoices with a joy I never expected. God Bless America and God Bless our future President John McCain and Sarah Palin!

I was one of those women that had not yet decided who I would vote for until today…I told my conservative family members during the primaries that John McCain was the only Republican I would vote for. After today's announcement of his VP pick I decided I would be voting for the Obama/Biden ticket. His pick of a VP seems like a ploy with no concern what might happen to the country if he could not serve.

@vic nashville,Tn and all Hillary Supporters

I am really disappointed to see all her supporters indicating voting for McCain.

It seems you just followed her for being a woman, but not for what she stands for.She is a iconic figure, who have fought for great cause.By supporting Mccain/Palin ticket you are insulting her efforts.Hilary stood for a change, to get this country back to tracks. So now why is a person, who is pro-life, a pro gun and exactly opposite of Hilliary's ideologies, being even considered when you believed Hillary for all her policies…

People think for what you are voting for and not for whom you are voting for..

Such a great champion of rights and change is disgraced….if you vote for McCain/Palin ticket

me again, i was wondering how good of a mother she will be to her 5 children when she is never home. was she thinking of them when she accepted?? or is political ambition more important to her. why in the world would a mother of 5 kids give up a normal life with her kids and husband for washington. i can see hilary because she has one grown and on her own. and even if a man had 5 young kids how could he disrupt their lives that way. if i had the life she has in alaska i sure would not trade it for washington, but i guess we all have different priorities.

mike   August 30th, 2008 12:01 am ET

McCain just proved his judgment is terrible. How do you decide a Vice President after one meeting? Obama spent months vetting and meeting with people.

Palin, although seemingly a nice person, is totally unprepared for VP of the United States of America.

Her next to Joe Biden should be interesting. Night and day as far as experience and foreign policy understanding.

Jerry   August 30th, 2008 12:01 am ET

My first reaction to Palin was a similar sentiment shared by many on these boards…What the heck was McCain thinking? Obama/Biden is a sure thing with this blunder. After meditating objectively on this, I'm starting to reshape my opinion on the Palin choice for veep. It will be interesting to see how both parties spin Palin, but my guess is that the Republicans will leverage the Dem's anticipated criticism of Palin's lack of expereince and parley that into indictment on Obama's minimal expereince. Absent Obama's oratory prowess and magnetic personality, there is little that separates Palin and Obama, experientially. He is a first term senator, she a first term governor. While she has no foreign policy experience, Obama's is meager by comparison. GOP can at least point to Palin's executive experience and commander in chief of AK nat. guard as presidential qualifications that Obama lacks. Obviously, this is purely political, though not just to capture the disenfranchised Hillary supporters. What at first seemed a bone-headed call by McCain packs plenty of compelling political intrigue. Time, press spin, and Palin herself will tell of the genius or travesty in this veep choice.

Betssi   August 30th, 2008 12:01 am ET

It sounds like Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter know palin better then Mcain. I agree with Robert from seattle "DAN QUALE IN A DRESS" that's just…. GENIUS!! I find most of the comments here from the koolaid drinkers to be extremely thoughtless. I personally don't care for either of these first seat candidates, but Palin certainly leaves me with a very impressive first impression. She certainly has a thin experience record as does Obama. but her accomplishments on ethics and even against her own party demonstrates her honesty and character. I like her more than the other 3 for sure.

Obama/Biden   August 29th, 2008 11:41 pm ET

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!?? Does McCain take American women for idiots!?? Does he really think that because we (Hillary supporters) are a little disappointed he can get us over with an Alaskan bimbo!?? This is an insult to women's intelligence!!!
McCain is such a hypocrite! Wasn't he th one killing people over Obama's "lack" of experience?? This just shows that all this is about politics and politics only not the welfare of the American people. McCain does not care about us at all. What if he drops dead (God forbid) sometimes after taking office? He's actually going to entrust our dear country to a VP that has no experience whatsoever! I am startled!

Please people do the right thing and vote for Obama and give America a real chance at change!

LA   August 29th, 2008 11:41 pm ET

As a woman I am totally insulted. Obama, first off brings intelligence to the ticket. I know Americans have gotten used to the C student, but remember when we used to choose the A students. President of the Harvard Law Review. Undergrad in foreign relations from Columbia. Then we have the Constitutional Law professor! Then we have the Civil Rights attorney, and he brings 8 years under his belt as a state legislator and 4 years under his belt as a U.S. Senator. John McCain and the far right can try to match her LESS THAN TWO (2) years of experience in a state that has less than 700k populations all they want, the math does not add up. Obama 12 years elected office experience/Palin (2). Sorry it does not even compare! Hillary did not put 18 million cracks in the ceiling for Ms. Beauty Queen to take advantage. John McCain sure has a thing for these beauty queens. Obama I didn't get it before, but now I totally get it when you say its judgment!!! This is a bad day for America. The republicans have turned our nations politics into a circus. Ms. Palin wants to set women back 100 years. HELL NO! McCain/Palin NO WAY, NO HOW!

McCain has insulted every single American by making a joke out of our Presidential election. He's opted for a cheap publicity stunt instead picking a qualified running mate. He's a shell of a man who has sold every last scrap of his dignity to extremists. The John McCain that suffered for American ideals in Nam wouldn't stop to spit on the pathetic coward that's currently running for President.

John   August 29th, 2008 11:40 pm ET

I love it how the Dems and supposed "women" on this board are seemingly offended by McCain's selection of Palin as VP. Jealous is probably the more appropriate word.

Constance   August 29th, 2008 11:40 pm ET

Where is this woman's FOUR MONTH OLD SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD in these presidential ambitions of this Sarah Palin? How in the world can this woman accept a job that will consume her life, all her time, all her energy above her family when she has an INFANT? A very vulnerable Special Needs infant at that?! Where are the comments from the "conservative right" the "moral Majority" while they watch a mother abandon her baby to a nanny or whoever to raise for this job. This woman's priorities are messed up. As a nurse who sees too many kids left alone in hospital's with strangers, I am simply totally speechless that this woman believes she is "free" to pursue her fabulous career and have yet to hear one comment about how in the world can she juggle a job like the Presidency and be an adequate mother to a special needs child. As a nurse, I see too many parents who are so rich that nannies raise their kids, or parents who are too poor and too ignorant to know how to raise their kids, or parents who are simply irresponsible and do not raise their kids. Our families are our country's base and I know it sounds so sexist to point out. The reality is this woman is taking an all consuming job and I am questioning how can it be possible for her to mother her child and be Vice-President or even President? Working mothers make choices and the best choices with the best outcomes for small children are mothers who work around their child's needs. They do not take a job that will consume their entire being to the detriment of a child. What is this woman thinking???? What is this country thinking if we don't notice that this is just not what are families are like???? Where in her priority list, if her vulnerable child is not first, does this country fit? It must be somewhere behind ambition, after greed for power, after glory and name, perhaps riches…then comes the best interests of the country THEN follows what…her vulnerable special need child? This woman is messed up and her priorities are cock-eyed. A qualified VP candidate –woman or man is fine but this one is not free to commit to this job. Her special needs child should be her current commitment and I can't figure out why this country or John McCain doesn't see this as an important issue.

You would vote for McCain because he picked a woman that he only met one time and he expects to help him run the country ? You are planning to vote for him because of a woman. I am a woman and I will not vote her just because she is a woman or because Hillary did not want. You need to really think about you are doing. McCain is an older candidate and this one could very well run this country in the near future and that makes me very afraid. II do not know why you call yourself wiser because your statement is not wise. Would take someone tinto your home that you met one time and have them run your home?

Woodland, CA   August 29th, 2008 11:39 pm ET

Game Over. Far from the most competent person for the job. This is not about Palin, it's about McCain's totally reckless choice of a woman that is not even remotely qualified to step into oval office heaven forbid anything ever happened to McCain. His decision making is now in question and this choice makes it impossible to vote for him or them.
Seeing Palin in news reals all highlights her lack of judgement as well. Any NRA member and responsible gun owner knows everyone should wear ear and eye protection when firing a weapon - ridiculous, all of it.

Folks, Obama's speech has not been kicked to the corner because of the choice of the beauty queen, the one whose husband works for an oil company in Alaska. I teach Geography, but please remind me. Is Alaska part of the United States? I guess that's not fair. I do like Mike Gravel. I actually wished he was the nominee.

I cannot believe ,McCain is Nuts He's lost my, parents votes ,,,,,,he could" pick alguem better , Senator Barack Obama you got my vote!!!!!!!

Sue in MI   August 29th, 2008 11:39 pm ET

Vote Democratic! At least we know one of them is qualified to be President. McCain is clueless, and Palin is an NRA anti-conservation, pro-drilling, anti Roe v. Wade conservative…another Bush clone! Just what we need to totally destroy this country. We'd be bombing Iran before Jan. 21, and the troops will never come home. Then they'll start on Russia, and hey, why not N. Korea? After all, we're the world's police now, thanks to Bush.We cannot afford 4 more years of tax cuts to the rich while the rest of us struggle to buy groceries and gas. They are clueless!

No thanks, NO MORE, NO McCain NEVER!

Terri   August 29th, 2008 11:39 pm ET

I was a Hillary supporter because of her experience and genuine concern for the American people, not because she was a woman. I have always based my vote on the persons abilities not the party they were affliated with and I would hope the rest of the American public would do the same. To the other Hillary supporters out there that are complaining about her not being picked and will cast their vote for McCain or not vote at all doesn't that choice go against everything she stood for? McCain's choice today was yet more proof to me how out of touch he really is with the Hillary supporters of America. I will be voting this year for Obama because I believe he can make a change for all of us.

Christine from Midwest   August 29th, 2008 11:38 pm ET

I am shocked and angry that the Republican Party and John McCain showed such poor judgment in choosing an unknown, small time govenor with almost no experience to be his running mate. It is almost unbelievable that this nation's security could possibly be in the hands of an elderly, out-of-touch career politician and a young hocky-mom from Alaska. I know that if those two are voted into office, I won't sleep until they are out of office! Republicans generally stand for conservative values, which includes a nuclear family with a mother in the home. How can she profess to be a conservative when she spends her time in politics when she has five children, and one of them is a Down's Syndrome baby. She should be caring for her children and not running for VEEP.

Sue, MN   August 29th, 2008 11:38 pm ET

McCain's pick of Palin to try and woo the 18 million Hillary voters just goes to show you what a low opinion he has of women. To think that these smart, intelligent women who supported Hillary because of her position on the issues would switch and vote for McCain because a woman is on his ticket is downright insulting. Palin is the anti-Hillary. Why would a Hillary supporter vote for her? She's against everything Hillary stands for and she stands for everything Hillary is against.

Scott919   August 29th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

This is an insult to women and it shows that even in our society today, we often confuse progress with slander. <<<

Oh rubbish. It might have a lot more to do with the fact that Palin has FAR fewer negatives than anyone else on the short list, she is a proven reformer (she cleaned up one of the most corrupt state governments in the USA, hammered big oil, and boosted the state economy), and a maverick herself. She fits McCain's message perfectly.

Furthermore, while Obama talks about he he WANTS to change things, Palin can talk about how she HAS changed things. This is not at all an insult to women. Perhaps the insult is immediately believing this woman has no merits without finding out first.

Brett   August 29th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

I am a Democrat, a proud one. And I absolutely LOVE Sarah Palin. I applaud you, Senator McCain!

caligirl   August 29th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

What an insult to Hillary Clinton. Palin doesnt hold a morsel of experience compared to Senator Clinton.
How desperate McCain is to win over women votes.
We know his scheme and it will not succeed!
I am a women, however I would be frightened to hand over the presidency to hs choice of vp when dealing with this countries economic crisis AND not to mention McCain had only met her ONCE! What type of judgement is that? Unsound, unwise and out of touch!
We cannot afford eight more years or wreckless judgement!
Theres too much at stack!

Amy   August 29th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

OH. MY. GOD. Is McCain out of his mind?!?!? What was he thinking?!?! They just handed the presidency to the Democrats on a silver platter. I can't vote for McCain now. I was already hesitant with his old age and state of health, and now he makes a horrible choice for VP. It seems his mental health is already deteriorating as well!!!
I can't believe I'm saying this, but the Obama/Biden ticket is now more appealing to me.

Selena   August 29th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

The people that are saying Palin is a great choice are just being phony and are really scared deep down that MCSame is showing signs of dementia!!!!!

GO President Obama!!!

chocked55   August 29th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

How interesting! Obama was critized by Republicans for not having any experience, but Mc picked someone that has no experience either and thinks that Alaska being next to Russia makes her expericenced on foreign policy.
I am not sure how she complements Mc on the ticket? Hmmm!
President Bush had no experience when he entered office and on the 2nd term look how bad our economic has become.

Even Steven, CO   August 29th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

Well, I was a fence sitting indie voter until this week (have voted Dem twice in the last twenty years, and voted 3 times Repub) I watched Obama's speech last night and just saw McCain unveil this whopper of a decision today.

Obama and Biden are getting my vote to get this country moving again.

Sorry McCain, you just made yourself look like McClown. Man, are you kidding me? Over Romney? Over Ridge???

Pat the Punk   August 29th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

For anyone questioning "experience"… Palin has *more* actual governing and executive experience than OBAMA, and Palin is NOT running for President, but VP. Think about that, folks. Also, you should be voting thinking about whether a candidate might or might not die (these are mostly Democrats). It's a simplistic, desperate and a disgusting type of thinking.

kristin   August 29th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

You have got to be kidding! No more do the Republicans have a leg to stand on in the inexperience debate.

How careless of McCain to choose the person for such an important position after only one meeting! This is judgment? I think not!

I am confident that the Clinton supporters will heed her words at the convention and ask themselves why they voted for her - was it for her or for what she stands for. Palin stands for nothing that Clinton stands for and it is SO INSULTING to think that the Republicans are under the impression that they can woo Clinton's supporters simply because Palin is a woman. All I can say is never underestimate a woman scorned!

Loren   August 29th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

Well, I guess McCain knew he had no chance of winning against Obama and Biden. So what he did was to select a good looking woman (who is certainly smart as well) so that every other american woman be they democratic or republican would vote for her not mentioning american males of both sides. This choice shows how desperate the republicans have become.

jm from sc   August 29th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

Obama made the right decision in choosing a running mate he could work with rather than trying to play games to make history and get nothing done. For those of you who feel like he should have chosen Hillary, you should do as she did and let that go. Hillary did not want to be VP because she was offered something better in an Obama administration. She is satisfied and we should be as well. First of all, the notion that she was done wrong by the choice Obama made was created by the republican to set the stage for McCain's risky choice.

McCain actually thinks women are dumb enough to flock to him just to make history.

What great experience Palin brings to the table compared to Obama, job titles aside. A clerk in Mayor Daley's office is as qualified as Palin to be VP of this country. Wonderful day for Dems. Those Clinton supporters that will still vote for McCain will do so b/c of Obama's color and they were never going to vote for him in the first place.

Obama/Biden 08

Disbelief   August 29th, 2008 11:32 pm ET

I can't believe McCain didn't pick Romney. Obama is doing well in the west and in Michigan. I felt like Romney could have quelled that. I didn't like McCain because I favor Obama's policies, but his choice of Mrs. Palin is downright scary as hell. She was the mayor of a town of 6500 and governer for two years of a state w/ a population far less than Dallas.

I want to thank all the Hillary Clinton supporters who are now supporting Barack Obama. As a Barack Obama supporter, I will do whatever I can to get her elected in the future if her supporters come through this election. To all those so called Hillary supporters who are voting for McCain I say GOOD RIDDANCE!!! I'm tired of you attention seekers saying you're voting for McCain… go AHEAD.. be ignorant. You'll have no one to blame but yourself is McCain is elected. Hillary is young enough to be president after Obama. Be patient. 16 years of Democratic rule sounds pretty good to me!

Boston For OBAMA   August 29th, 2008 11:31 pm ET

Very poor judgement dislayed by John McCain. He must be very desperate. Senator Hillary Clinton's supporters will not fall for this ploy. ROE V. WADE is now on the table. Paulin herself is under investigation in her corrupt state of Alaska. What was he thinking?

Patrick   August 29th, 2008 11:31 pm ET

Refreshing! I was a Democrat for McCain until I dug deep, listened to Hillary's speech, and softened to the Obama/Biden pick. I am now voting Democrat. However, McCain's pick is refreshing from the Republican side and I hope she does well on this journey.

ricka   August 29th, 2008 11:31 pm ET

McCain has chosen the path of least resistance, like water running down hill. He did not want to be upstaged by people who can do a better job than he can. we all know McCain is a ladies man. look what happened to his first wife. his current wife must be a bit nervous. Good ol John McCain might be out shooting moose with his new lady.
seriously i think he must have fell in love at first sight. i wonder how ms McCain works into this, He sold our future on a good looking woman. either that or she has more charm than is known.

Rosalyn   August 29th, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Well, we Know one thing for sure McCain enjoys the company of younger women.

Patricia   August 29th, 2008 11:27 pm ET

PUMA people wanted H. Clinton because of her experience - so they said. Actually they wanted her because she was a woman and they refuse to vote for a Black - race bias painted all over their movement. Now a PUMA supporter says this will make it easier to vote for McCain. See, they didn't want Clinton for her experience - they just wanted a woman (and are racists).

Palin is getting attention today because McCain needed someone with speaking ability to fire up his party. With a major in communications, she will do that very well.

HOWEVER, McCain has spent his entire campaign boasting of his foreign policy experience and that the country needs him so badly. He is 72. What if perhaps she is left to lead the country. He has met her once, she looked good on paper, and she could be our next president. NO MCCAIN, NO WAY, NO HOW. This is FAR too scary.

Democrat for John McCain   August 29th, 2008 11:26 pm ET

I am thrilled with this selection. It is not necessary for John McCain to know her well. Palin's accomplishments speak about herself. Barack has a clean slate and Biden is arrogant old man. Vote John McCain.

steve   August 29th, 2008 11:26 pm ET

only seen her one day and she is already a better choice than oboma

John K   August 29th, 2008 11:26 pm ET

As a Democrat I can't vote for her………….and wouldn't………………but I can still look!

Dan Muig   August 29th, 2008 11:26 pm ET

John McCain, has a very serious judgement deficiency. Americans would have hoped that after all these many months of silence and secrecy about a VP choice, that John McCain was actually interviewing and aggressively searching for the best possible choice of a VP.

No, it simply looks now that after all this time the best he can do is to select a running mate that he has only met once, and knows nothing about her.

With that kind of judgement what will McCain do in selecting his Cabinet and other presidential appointees. He will probably do it in his sleep.

Very poor judgement. Very reckless. I am very shocked & disappointed.

Morten   August 29th, 2008 11:25 pm ET

Unbelievable…

Obama was top student from Harvard, spent 8 years in state legislature, and almost 4 years in the senate. Among other, he has served on the Foreign relations committee… His age is similar to that of other world leaders when they start serving; JFK, Clinton, Roosevelt, and Grant were all younger.

Sarah has been governor for less than two years and is even younger…

How can anyone argue that she has more experience??? LOL

David   August 29th, 2008 11:25 pm ET

wow I guess we should all vote for john mccain since he has a hot vp choice oh look at that she's a woman too hello Hillary supporters jump on in the water is safe………………..NOT!!

sue   August 29th, 2008 11:24 pm ET

Does she even know that McCain is one of a very few who owns 8-11 houses and still has servants

I guess thats the diversity they seek.

Jon   August 29th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Sort of like marrying someone you met once at a cocktail party.

The choice of Palin is definitive proof of McCain's utter lack of judgement. He should concede the election right now.

Wild Otter

Amy from Virginia   August 29th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

The only logic I can come up with McCain's VP pick is that all the other candidates must have said to him "thanks, but no thanks". If not, I fail to see how on earth he will get to the oval office!

J.B.   August 29th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Joe Biden will chew her up, and spit her out all over the stage during their VP debate. Especially on foreign affairs…which she has clearly said she has no interest in. And whoever said she had experience in foreign affairs because her state was near Russia needs to really get a clue.

Denise   August 29th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

wow - never would have thought mccain would be so clueless..
i am not a hillary fan…but if i was- knowing hillary not on the ticket is not going to make me vote the mccain/palin ticket b/c palin is a woman..that will not do it for me or this country…and people are scared of the 3:00 a.m. call…can this woman even handle all the distractions…a baby w/down syndrom-a son in iraq-not to mention
the election…is she ready to lead this country-i can't chance it and you shouldn't either….republicans-you may not be able to admit it but, mccain is 72 & that in itself is scary enough…wow

dbr   August 29th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

This is an obvious attempt to steal some of the Barack' Obama's thunder becoming the first African American elected by a major party for the presidency of the United States.

It's could also be an attempt to add some excitement to a lack luster Republican Presidential campaign.

Dan   August 29th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

Who is Palin??? Why should she be one heartbeat away from the Presidency??
I do NOT want to hear anyone arguing that Obama is inexperienced… EVER AGAIN!!!
It is clear to me that Mccain is using women as a tool… just to gain votes for him. The Biden choice is a respectful one, because it was to benefit the country… the Palin choice, I’m not so sure about… it seems as though it was carefully crafted to benefit Mccain only, which is rather disingenuous to women and I hope Hillary voters see right through it!
It just goes to show you that you do not have to have political experience anymore - you can be a “hockey mom” and be one heartbeat away from the presidency nowadays.
I can't wait for the debates between Palin and Biden, and she has to explain the difference between Sunni and Shia… she will be looking for Liebermann.
Plus - I listened to conservative talk radio all day, and understand that conservatives only like her because she is "HOT" - that's it! Because she is "hot." This should alarm every American voter, and raise suspicion for anyone who knows a conservative, because this is what they think about. Clearly the wrong head they are thinking with, if they have brains at all.

unknown   August 29th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

What in the world was He thinking…. I am an Obama supporter who was excited about the election, but now I am literally on my head to get him elected out of FEAR of what will happen to our country if something happens (which is likely) to the 72 year old idiot.

John McFool, how dare you choose someone with no experience or even interest in the foreign affairs. Where were his advisors?

Jim Blasdel   August 29th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

And Palin is the best person in the nation to be President if, God forbid, something happens to McCain? Oy Vey !

Winkzilla   August 29th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

Palin is a reckless choice. McCain made this choice for very narrow self-interest reasons without regard to American National Security if something should happen to him. Barack Obama showed outstanding judgement to his vp choice and an understanding that the choice must be made with our National Interest in mind. McCain's choice shows that he does not have the American people in mind for his decisions. If he does not have them in mind now, he will not in office as well.

This decision shows McCain is indeed four more years of fail Republican dogma that puts personal self-interest over our National Security.

BK   August 29th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

Did you see Obama off script today responding to Gov. Palin? DUH DUH DUH. I can't wait for the debates. Oh by the way Gov. Palin didn't use a teleprompter today.

Hillary08   August 29th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

This is such an insult to all women!! McCain must think that all American women are complete IDIOTS by choosing a woman who has close to no experience and does not even COMPARE to Hillary. Does he expect that we'll vote for him just because he chose a woman!?!? It's obvious that he doesn't think Palin would actually make a good VP, he's just trying to pick up the Hillary voters who became undecided… Well, thank you McCain for making the election clear for this undecided woman… YOU ARE A SENILE OLD MAN…. OUT OF YOUR MIND!!!

My vote will go to OBAMA!!!

Morris   August 29th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

RECKLESSSSSSSSSS MCCAIN! THIS IS CLEARLY A POLITICAL STUNT AND PALIN FELL FOR IT!!! How can she allow this man to use her family for political gain! Does she really thinks that he takes her seriously! It looks so unnatural! Does not even look real!

Sharon   August 29th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

Cheap theatrics by John McCain. The announcement was hastily made and the timing was engineered to stomp on the bounce Obama will undoubtedly get from his spectacular in Denver. As a woman, I am insulted and appalled by this outrageous VP choice and by the low-road tactics of the McCain campaign. Palin is qualiied to be president ot the PTA and, if you google it, you'll find that she was FOR the Bridges to Nowhere BEFORE she was against them.

Lame choice by an out-of-touch, 72 year-old candidate who will do anything to win an election. "Country First" is a total JOKE!

Hmmmm…Sounds like McCain is going through a midlife crisis…AGAIN! He just sent his wife, Cindy, overseas to Georgia AND he stays at home meeting with this woman? This decision was risky, an insult to women all over the US, and from what I'm reading all over the internet McCain has lost voters right and left. And, if elected, does he know he's going to die right away? Sheeshhhh…….

This brash decision is a PRIME example of how McCain will make decisions about our country. I definitely don't trust him now.

Interesting, but first my congratulations to all women as another step towards equality continues.
The interesting part is now the deciding factor in picking Palin.

If Obama had chosen Clinton, who would have been McCain pick?
If the answer is Palin, then McCain made the right decision.
If the answer is others then I submit to you POLITICS remix.

Adam   August 29th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

J. McCain has been down in the polls all the time, just because all the attentions have been focusing always to Obama. McCain now wants all attentions focused on his camp by making a surprise choice of an unthinkable VP, creating waves of all kinds of good and bad talks, which will last for a long time– long enough to shift all good attentions away from Obama until the election day. This is a very smart strategy.
But, It is wrong time for McCain.

OutsiderBen   August 29th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

I read a bunch of fake Hillary voters here (Same old Republicans games). I know how to play these games just like everybody does but even here we can show some honesty for ourselves at least.

One good thing I'v noticed to Ms. Palin, she is very charming and she is out played by McCain. I kind of see him pointing a gun on her back and making her speak whatever she has been told. This is such a shame for US POLITICS, in this case by Republicans who are desperate to win this election, very suspicious move by McCain, I think he is not a loyal man, he is willing to do whatever just to win this election for his personal reasons.

People are so blind and emotional to change political views. I dont care about Republicans nor Democrats, I care about my family and who is runing my country, I dont have any emotion in politics and I suggest to people, you can change your political views during the day as long as you are familiar with that and you think that choice is right for you and your family then GO FOR IT.

I choose Barack Obama because he has this charisma to bring our country in positive ways, he will keep us together and he has a good heart.

I wouldnt be so sure to vote for McCain especially after today, we dont need a 72 years old president. We are a country of THE DREAMS, NOT THE NIGHTMARES.

Mr. Bentley

Mabye her ambition.

As one of those more mature women who strongly supported Clinton, I am insulted that McCain thinks he could win my support by choosing someone with no experience and or exposure to national government. I would never vote for a candidate based on gender.

Art H   August 29th, 2008 11:13 pm ET

I think this is a lousy choice and a poor and ill-thought decision from McCain, frankly.

This is not a job interview for a small town mayor. This is a person who could, in a heart-beat, become the president of the most powerful country on earth.

I thought Obama picked a weakling when he picked Biden but weakling though he may be, he has got enough sagacity to steer the country, should such a requirement come up.

McCain's choice on the other hand, is a hasty and hurried decision, intended to leverage off the dissatisfaction that people have, with Obama not picking Hillary as his running mate, which makes it dangerously immature and I question his judgement for presidential level decisions. But in the process, he skipped over highly intelligent and capable potential VPs like Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty and went for this small town amateur. She is already under an ethics investigation for trying to influence official decisions in favor of her family members. How much more ill-advised could the decision to pick her get ?

McCain will take a bath come November - is my prediction. With a pick of either Romney or Pawlenty, I personally would have been in his corner but this choice is an insult to my intelligence and hopefully has the same effect on others too, who will steer clear of a McCain candidacy. I will be sitting out this election cycle, since neither choice is too appealing.

He didn't need to talk to her more than once. Karl Rove told him she was his only chance of winning the election. It doesn't matter neither McCain nor Palin will be Governing. They will continue to get permission from Karl Rove before they can even speak in public, just like George W. Bush.
Wait until Sarah finds out she is a token, selected to be a nursemaid for John McCain.

At McCain's age he should have picked someone with at least some foreign policy experience. I think even lots of conservatives are going to be put off by this woman. No real Hillary supporter would support her.

CAtoAR   August 29th, 2008 11:13 pm ET

McCain has not only shocked me back into the political process but actually has me shopping for bumper stickers and yard signs. Palin was a masterstroke — McCain has shored up the conservative base and has solidified his reputation of his ticket as one of true change. Much like Bill Clinton recently observed: do you vote for the ticket that talks change or the one that will deliver it? In an already narrowing race that showed all the momentum with McCain, this will push them over the top. Watching the panicked fear-mongering of the democratic pundits on TV just proves how much they fear for their own ticket. Being unable to match their own presidential candidate against even the bottom half of the Republican ticket (seems like a candidate for the chief executive should have, ah, gee, I don't know, EXECUTIVE experience?!) they are attacking everything from her appearance to John McCain's health in their desperation. McCain's choice a "hail Mary"? I think the coming weeks will show where the real desperation deservedly lies…

Because of Palin I'm donating the max to McCain—–is that clear enough?

Good job, McCain! Sarah Palin is a brilliant choice. McCain proves that he will go his own way and do what he wants. He will run a different show than Bush is running and really shake up Washington. Democrats will naturally attempt to promote their flavor of "change" but that's socialism and America doesn't need that garbage.

It never made sense to pick someone who was a prior presidential candidate. They lost already; the American people spoke in the primaries…they didn't want them. Not to mention all the videos out there where they make negative statements about each other.

Has anyone noticed that in some parts of Alaska, where the oil and gas pipelines and fossil fuel originates is over $7.00 a gallon?!!! Would Palin's "maverick" policies do the same for the rest of the country? If this is the price of gas in the state with the Alaskan pipeline, what's next for the rest of us should she become VP/President?

I wish that there were a way to exclude people from making 'staged' comments - i.e. the supposed Clinton supporters that say how wonderful this is. There might be 1000 or so people in the USA who actully feel this way, but I suspect that those on this comment page are activists who have always supported McCain (and actually hate Clinton).

Secondly, this is a pathetic pick, they met once. My goodness.

Palin was out of her depth as govener (ask her staff) and now she could be the Presedent….yikes!

Anonymous   August 29th, 2008 11:10 pm ET

Begala said it best on Larry King tonight. Would a parent entrust their child's life with a person whom they've met only once? Then why in the world should we place Palin in the position to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency of the United States? We'd be entrusting her with the lives of 300 million Americans — including 3 million of our own brave soldiers!

I think its great!! I couldnt be happier! Go Republicans!!!!

Don Lang   August 29th, 2008 11:09 pm ET

Who cares. Hillary Clinton knew Bill Clinton for decades. She trusted him with her life, child and career. He still undertook some interesting activities in the oval office with an intern. People's character can be learned quickly - and in th Bill/Hillary case, no matter how well you think you know somebody, they can be someone completely different.

We have just received orders to produce 500,000 new bumper stickers that read: McSame and Mrs. Plain 2008

I'm a hardline republican woman but I'm voting for Obama/ Biden.
I'm not that crazy to put a NOBODY in such a high officer, even if she has a pretty face.

The selection of Governor Palin is an insult to women voters. If Senator McCain respected women as being thoughtful and intelligent voters, he would have realized that gender first was not the correct priority in his selection criteria….that we women vote for qualified candidates male or female. He lost my vote with this choice because there is nothing compelling about Governor Palin, nothing…and he showed his true colors by putting the country at risk to further his own political gain. His most important first decision as a presidential contender was apparently conducted on a whim.

Some day Governor Palin may prove to be an essential force in American politics, but there is no reason at all to bring her forward and sell her prematurely as that now.

LOVE Palin—-great pick—-NRA member, loves fishing & hunting, eats Mooseburgers, drop dead gorgeous—–every man's dream—-trade Biden for her any day—

As a woman and a Democrat, I am insulted and angered by John McCain’s VP pick of Sarah Palin.

The fact that he chose the VP primarily because she is a woman is an insult to my intelligence. The equal rights movement is based on the empowerment of women. An integral part of empowerment is the ability to think and act freely not as a monolithic group. Truly independent women will see through this façade and vote for a president/VP based on the issues and one’s governing ability.

I am a supporter of Barack Obama. I also recognize and admire Hillary Clinton’s contributions to the Democratic Party and to the Country. Her position on universal healthcare and women’s issues is unwavering. If it were not for Barack Obama running at this time, I most definitely would have supported Hillary Clinton-NOT because of her sex, but because of her stances on the issues and her ability to govern. It angers me that Hillary Clinton or someone of her caliber may not be the first female President, but instead someone who is a right-wing conservative who is riding the coattails (coffin) of an elder statesman and who doesn’t value the sanctity of choice, equality, human rights, environment etc may. For those Clinton supporters who are considering voting for McCain based on his VP pick, please consider that you are not only undermining women everywhere, but also you are also undermining Hillary Clinton and her message.

Elizabeth   August 29th, 2008 11:09 pm ET

McCain thinks women are stupid enough to vote for just any women, regardless of her lack of qualifications. It is an insult to the American Women!!!!

NObama   August 29th, 2008 11:08 pm ET

Now the race gets interesting! At least the GOP has their ticket right; with the experienced guy on top, and the up and comer in the VP slot.

She has about the same level of expertise as BHO, probably a little more actually. She actually manages a state, he just showed up to vote present…

OMG, I can't wait until they start roasting Palin over the pit. The baby is her daughter's? She left her city in financial ruin? McCain likes her because she reminds him of Cindy with dark hair? It will be glorious!!!

Callen Blackburn   August 29th, 2008 11:08 pm ET

Wow, truly idiotic! There is no way to even compare this woman to Hillary Clinton. Less than two years as Governor? Only met McCain once? When John McCain drops dead during his first term in office, this woman can NOT lead this country. She has no experience in Washington and will get eaten alive. Any Hillary Clinton supporter that is now supporting the McCain-Palin ticket because there is a woman involved is truly ignorant! Thank you John McCain for securing the win for Obama!

Mo, NC   August 29th, 2008 11:08 pm ET

McCain's VP selection was irresponsible and insulting. It never crossed my mind to vote for him, but this move was by far the most despicable of his campaign so far. As has been said before, TRUE Hillary supporters will see beyond gender to the fact that Palin is essentially opposite with respect to everything else!

democrats cry and complain way to much   August 29th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

wow democrats whining right and left,

thats one of the reasons i am a republican,

I think this is an excellent choice. all she handles and still able to be a public servant is great. running a family seems to help her keep away from corrupt politics and remember what we need to fight for. Fifth child has down syndrome definitley shows she has her priniciples right and cares for human life.

Keep whining democrats, it keeps republicans like me remember why i am republican.

Amy Q   August 29th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

This 'man' has no shame. And any woman who falls for the GOP trick of figuring we are stupid enough to vote someone simply based on gender deserves what we will get with McCain as President.

Palin is a Cindy clone - probably a sorority sister of hers. She has no idea what the average American goes through as she, too, appears to have come from money.

McCain didn't choose her to help him run the country - he chose her because he thinks women are stupid and their place is barefoot, pregnant, quiet and in the kitchen and Palin will be the perfect White House housewife, not VP.

She's far more suited for a part on Desperate Housewives than as our possible President.

Morons - all of them and anyone who supports them still.

Mary   August 29th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

Thank you John!!!!!! Your old age and senility have helped Obama…..you go!!!!!

Jen B   August 29th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

He must be out of his mind; this is so irresponsible of McCain, I fear for the welfare of this country should he and Palin end up in the White House. McCain really doesn't get it, most women are smarter than he gives us credit for and elect a candidate based on policy, not gender.

Corey, Maryland   August 29th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

I just have to point out that these 2 are the 2 most awkwardly looking people when photographed together!!! Obama and Biden look good together!! McSame and Palin just look odd together!
