I am still amazed at the way some women talk-Who cares if Sarah Palin is Mccain's pick? Mccain is a late adopter. He won his presidential nomination in March so what the hell has he been waiting for all this while to choose a VP? He is still undecided--SMART!! I have a question for those who keep on saying that Mccain has experience--being a POW is a privelege not a right. He is respected for that but that is not strong enough to take him to the white house. Lay down his experiences like he helped build a library somewhere--then we'll say oh finally something substantial. But the way some reps are talking STINKS--as if it is not coming from a human brain. Cindy his wife should also perch somewhere with her flat "behind". Following your husband like a duckling will take you no where. Sit down with your broken hand and the the "man" do his thing. After all we all know you are his wife.

Sarah Palin is a one term mayor of a town with a population of 7500 people. She is 1 1/2 years into her first term as governor and she is currently embroiled in a scandal and under investigation by the Alaska legislature for attempting to get her ex brother in law a state trooper fired. When the commissioner would not fire him she FIRED the commissioner. McStupid is DESPERATE. If Hillary supporters vote for her just because she is a woman they were never TRUE Hillary supporters in the first place. Joe Biden is going to CHEW her up in the debate. She is also a Ms. Alaska contestant. John sure does like those beauty contests!!!

Thank goodness for Palin! This will work to insult the intelligence of Clinton supporters! Hey, here's a woman, I'm so progressive! Experience, what's that?

I'm just hoping Huckabee isn't brought in from some dark corner. Ugh.

TO
"People make no sense" -

t's amazing. Some bloggers want to know how will Obama pay for all his dreams. Can you explain to me how we pay $1 billion dollars a week in Iraq? We can find the money for wars and the government borrows and takes our tax dollars for their own gain, yet people will not invest in themselves. How pathetic!

Your comments are so true. I am so tired of the Republicans and their lies and fear tactics.

I just don't get alot of people. Last night was historical and made me feel proud to be an american. I am a single white female who struggles like alot of us. I believe Obama can help ordinary people just like myself. I was a Republican who voted for President Bush thinking he can help this country i am ASHAMED for what he has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. i AM PROUD TO SAY I'M A CHRISTIAN and though i may not agree on every little issue of Obama's i know he is the right choice for this country. And IF people are voting McCain over Obama for the simple fact that Obama is black? WAKE UP PEOPLE WE ARE IN 2008 NOT 1908! Obama can change, yes change this country it so desparately needs. When i see, watch, or hear Barack Obama is see him as a man and not a black man. This is america and it's time to erase the ignorance of people in this country

As an Obama supporter, I'm loving these rumors! Pawlenty was the only VP prospect who even remotely concerned me, as he has a decent record and governs a narrowly blue state.

I didn't think McCain would be stupid enough to pick Romney. It would just open the door for Obama to run the same ad's of Romeny criticizing McCain that McCain did when Obama picked Biden. If McCain picks Lieberman, then he might as well deliver his concession speech when he makes the announcement. Lieberman was the worst VP pick anyone has made since Dan Quayle, and I would be very surprised if McCain would make such a dumb choice.

As for Whitman or Palin, I kinda laughed when I heard the picks. They're obviously both designed to get the female vote and nothing more, but if it's Meg Whitman, I will definitely be making some large donations to Obama. While Meg Whitman did a good job running eBay, there is quite a lot eBay has done to harm the American economy (i.e.-excessive fees for small business owners, sales tax evasion, copyright infringement, etc.). I think it's really down to Palin and Ridge, and I think it goes to Palin, if for no other reason than McCain wants to try and create the illusion he's independent from the Bush administration, and selecting a former Bush cabinet member in Ridge wouldn't achieve that.

I had a a talk with an anti-Obama person who pretty much asked the same question that "People make no sense" mentioned, how can he pay for all that. I brought up how are we paying the cost of the Iraq war, taxing corporations and wealthy etc, and it didn't seem to matter to this gal, who is struggling to make ends meet as it is. I told her she would probably get a $1000 tax break from Obama, and she STILL wasn't convinced, so you're right People make no sense.

Back to topic, I thought McCain had a VP choice. Looks like whatever Dem. Convention upstage plan the Republicans had, must have fallen apart. Let's see how many SPONTANEOUS people show up to McCain's events. I doubt it will be anything close to the sea of humanity that was at Obama's acceptance speech.

I agree with Obama. Enough, get the Republicans out of the Executive branch of the US government, the Republicans are too corrupt, and they are trying to create a Police State to protect the wealthy elite.

There are very few disgruntled Hillary voters, and the ones that are disruntled are so because she wasn't the pick. They don't want "a woman" on the ticket; they want Hillary.

Do you think they'll be happy that a different woman gets to be the first?

So, McCain is picking Palin? I guess the Republicans think that experience is overrated too. They want a 44-year-old 1st-term governor with no foreign policy experience to back up 72-year-old McCain? I wonder how Hillary's supporters are feeling about this. Considering McCain is 72 years old, Palin might becom the first female president of the United States if McCain wins but for some reason cannot finish out his term.

If Cain chooses Palin, that would be something. I agree I think Hillary supporters would be miffed, and be torn between making a little history of their own or supporting the principles behind their candidate of Hillary. I would hope this would drive them back to the Democratic Party in droves.

Wow, America would looks so weak with an Elderly Pres! McCain for your own good don't get someone anywhere near your age, and don't get someone young enough to be your grandson. Please don't get someone that's worth twice as much as you and that would create a combined 11 houses total. Don't get someone that has to whisper in your ear to correct you 24/7. I'm sorry you have run out of options.....

I don't know why her name hasn't been brought up in McCain's veep talks since people are making crazy suggestions like Hillary Clinton and Joe Leiberman, but I think Kathleen Sebelius would be a great pick for him if he wants to have a multi-party ticket. She's a Democrat in a decidedly Republican state who often has to cross party lines and compromise, and would probably sway the independent vote even further over to McCain.

I'm actually surprised that Obama didn't tap Sebelius for vice president, but I shouldn't be surprised since Obama's idea of compromise is "accept my radical liberal ideals or else you're a racist". So it makes sense that he chose the only senator who's more Socialist than he is

I've been pushing for Palin all along. She is every bit as smart, eloquent and good looking as Obama but she doesn't have ties to known terrorists, radical religious leaders or political fixers. She has more time running a state than Obama does as a senator (I don't count time campaigning as actual senate work) and, like McCain, she has been pushing back on the Republican leadership on several issues.

Oh, and for those of you who are excited that Biden will rip her apart in a debate or in the media, beware! A mean, old white guy ripping into a beautiful, less-experienced woman on national tv or in the press is going to do Obama more harm than good.

ABC has reported that Palin is in Anchorage. I am (at the moment) leaning towards Obama but I think the choice of Palin would be interesting and strategically good for the the McCain campaign. On the other hand, Palin is a human being and politician of utmost integrity. While not strong on the national stage, her efforts in Alaska provide evidence that she would fight for government corruption at all levels. Given that she rose in statewide prominence in Alaska by whistleblowing on Republicans, however, leads me to believe she may not ever make it to the national stage with the GOP. If it weren't for our partisan political machinery, she would make an impressive independent politician. If she is chosen by McCain (and the ABC report is misguided), I may have to reconsider for which side I will cast my vote.

Hillary voters...please show integrity in November. I must admit Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea have won back my respect. When Obama is President, Hillary should be the Secretary of state.

Don't be swayed by some Alaska nobody just because she is female.

The first female VP or President needs to be exceptional not lackluster. Please hold off for THE RIGHT CANDIDATE!

McCain's biggest decision awaits him. It is not Pawlenty, nor do I believe it will be Romney......and as far as Patlin is concern......it is not in his political profile to select a woman........which leaves only one person left.......his buddy......Ridge....... and that is going to seal his defeat.......sometimes no matter who we choose.......it is never the correct choice.

I cannot agree with you more David as I waas moved by Obama's message and impressed with his grit. I would also like to commend you as the most openminded and fair analyst in the industry as you look at the issues with no prejudices or agendas.
Thanks David

If McCain's VP pick is 1st term, 44 year-old Alaska governor Palin, won't his campain have to abandon the "inexperience" argument against Obama? How prepared would she be to take on the role of Commander-in-Chief? Arguably less prepared than Obama.

There is “Senator McCain” who most grew to like/love whatever suites you. For me his maverick stature is nothing but a myth.

Then there is “presidential candidate McCain” that we all have come to dislike. Why you ask? Plain and simple, the “straight talk express” had morphed into the “Straight Lie Express”.

Its sad to see McCain embrace the very painful tactics that Bush/Rove applied on him in 2000 and this has changed him from the proud public servant he was to this bitter and angry unsure person we see today who can barely speak his mind leave alone tell the truth of knowing how many houses he owns or whether truthfully he has picked a VP or not.

McCain you have failed the test because that is not the change we are looking for.

Just read on the Huffington Post:

A Republican source confirms that John McCain has chosen Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate. Campaign officials, however, remain mum this morning.

Sources are saying that he may go with a female VP and I really hope he does, and not because I'm a woman.

I hope to God he does it, because it will be seen by every intelligent female voter for what it is: patronizing and condescending us as human beings, shutting us up and pacifying us...or at least attempting to.

I am not swayed by gender; I am swayed by issues.

Also, besides pissing off female voters who don't like having their intelligence insulted, he probably just lost the support of the ultra conservative base of his party.

WAY TO SHOOT YOURSELF IN THE FOOT, MCCAIN!

My question is simple....

If John McCain picks a woman, does he really believe that women will automatically vote for him? And what is Hillary going to do when she realizes that "if McCain wins, she could very easily lose her chance to be the first woman president?

My guess is Hilliary won't be very happy about this at all...

Palin would pick up some of the female vote... but would cost McCain even more of the male vote. Republicans just don't like women in positions of real power, it makes them uncomfortable. Plus, she has scandals attached to her, such as getting her brother-in-law fired from Alaska's state troopers, and her husband works with big oil. Also, they'd lose the "Obama's too young and inexperienced" meme if they picked someone even younger and less experienced than him. I really don't think that McCain would be stupid enough to make this pick... but, some of the foolish choices camp McCain's made lately have surprised me, so, we'll see, maybe he IS that foolish.
