There are 2 scenarios here. If the baby is her daughter's she lied to cover it up. I understand the need to protect your child. But, this is why you vet your vp pick. If the child is her's then she showed very poor judgement after she discovered she was leaking. What if her water had broken while she was giving a speech. Most women would have gone to the hospital

To Just Curious:

Read in a major newspaper article that Palin went back to work when that handicapped baby was only 3 days old!

Does that sound like a loving mother with great concern for her newborn Down Syndrome son?

Pat Dunnells   August 31st, 2008 7:04 pm ET

I would like to see a debate between Palen and Obama (Barracuda and Barack) and another with McCain and Biden! I can hear Obama stuttering now! I am THRILLED with Palen!

Just Curious   August 31st, 2008 7:01 pm ET

While doing some research on Palin the Unknown, found a LOT of speculation about the fact that the baby may be a 'grand baby.' While lying to the public about covering up for an unwed teenager that found herself pregnant at age sixteen is one thing, but using the decision to bring to term a baby that you know will have DS as a major part of your platform is just wrong. I cannot prove anything, but the evidence is worth a look. Google palin +pregnant +daughter. Look for yourself before the pictures are completely removed. Lying to protect your family is a private matter. Using that lie to further your political aspirations has got to be morally wrong. Since she has not been formally vetted, it is hard to know what to believe, but the pictures I saw tell a convincing tale. Please, look for yourself. Think about how you think this will play out if it is true. Does her decision to have her baby with DS hold the same weight if he is really her grandson? What is she is a rouse and will drop out of the race within a few weeks once the scandal hits the airwaves. Believe. Don't Believe. Look for yourself.

Can he compliment her without being sexist. Yes, she is young and good looking since it is Joe Biden who said it; it is sexism.
When you talk about taking women seriously, the democrats take women more seriously than the republican. Since the 1980 the democrat been putting women on major political ticket. Geraldine Ferraro was a democrat VP running mate in the 1980. Tell me a mojor republican woman that hit that miles stone in the 1980; none, zero. Hillary Clinton was the front runner in this race for quite a while and she is a woman democrat. How can you talk about democrat think women is no brainer when they are the one who introduce them to hold these big political position. What you can say is that John McCain is using a woman to try to take some of the people that was fallowing Clinton by using a woman to do so since Hillary was a woman. McCain know how a lot of Hillary's suppotters feel about her been treated unfair and pick a woman VP to see if he can get their vote very manupilative.

Go Obama/Biden. This is the ticket for getting our country back.

People an easy pick this time around .

Go for change/hope not fear/hate.

Doris,Memphis,TN   August 31st, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Charlotte, Who's the baby's mama!

Doris,Memphis,TN   August 31st, 2008 6:04 pm ET

No way, No how, No convention.

alvino   August 31st, 2008 6:00 pm ET

McCain seemed quite unsure of what the plans were for the convention. They did talk of fundraising, though. Not much leadership shown at the press conference.

WOW - Cedar Hill, TX   August 31st, 2008 5:58 pm ET

during your press conference are you going to talk about Palin's "BABY"....

Sara Palin should stoping lying about being pregrant...Look at the pic's on Daily Kos and also Google "Sara Palin" and you will find that Sara's Daughter had the baby not Sara.

Sara tell the truth......

Destiny is saying the republicans don't deserve to have a convention this year after spilling innocent blood. Over 2.1million have been killed since the Iraq and Afghanistan WAR. Go figure...

Obama/Biden   August 31st, 2008 5:35 pm ET

McCain like Bush will bring more threat to our country. Obama/Biden ticket is very strong on national security and Biden as well as Obama is well respected around the world. Obama has better judgment on every single issues that we need on a president than mccain. That is why we must vote Democratic this November to prevent a second 9/11 and have someone who is ready for what ever decission to defend our national security in case of any plot. McCain/Palin ticket I doubt it no foreign policies no experience we cannot risk our country with that ticket.
Do not listen to the republican scare tactics and believe anything they have to say. The republican is the party we as voters should stay away from this November. They have done enough to our country and the economy and we cannot afford four more years of economic disasters and begging China to lend us money.
Why are they skipping the convention? is it to show that McCain is not tight to Bush/Chenney? But, Jonh McCain voting record cannot lie that he not only tight to Bush/Chenney, but, will be a continuation of Bush Chenney government.

Hillary Clinton   August 31st, 2008 5:30 pm ET

I see that my fellow Democrats continue in their sexist ways.
When will they ever learn?

Justin Weeb   August 31st, 2008 5:27 pm ET

It's perfectly putting the Country first, instead of the party and election gains, when you appoint someone you don't really know very well to take the post of the president in case of sudden events as regard your advance age. Every America has full confifence in McCain's choice because he is a very very good soldier. And you know, Soldiers put their country first, always. McCain, the only war hero America has ever produced!!!

Sabrina   August 31st, 2008 5:19 pm ET

This must have been a good move by McCain. because the Obama people are are sounding so negative-– again! So much for change! McCain/Palin08 Hillary2012

Borignal   August 31st, 2008 5:12 pm ET

This is a blessing for the republicans..... Bush and Cheney (who these "smart" people voted for TWICE) will not be there reminding us of the terrible state our country is in. What we should be VERY MUCH REMINDED OF, during this potential natural disaster, are the results of President Bush's poor judgement and decision-making. President Bush appointed Michael Brown as the director of FEMA, a good Republican, but also a man with absolutely no national disaster experience or related experience. Now, we all know what a completely inappropriate and incompetent choice by Pres. Bush that turned out to be. Sen. McCain's choice of Sarah Palin is a first and telling example of the decision-making and judgement he will bring to the presidency. Recently, Sen. Cheney was required to meet with government leaders in the country of Georgia as well as other allies. He has been behind the scenes meeting with Iraqui and other Middle East leaders. While her conservative social views may bring joy to the evangelicals during Sen. McCain's campaign, the entire country needs to be concerned about this choice if he becomes president.

Jeff   August 31st, 2008 5:11 pm ET

WOW! Did we have the election already? If i understand this correctly, Mr. McCain is the senior senator from Arizona...is Gustav's track heading toward Arizona? Step back McFeeble and let the officials who are in place to handle this do so - get out of the way until it's your job!

aware   August 31st, 2008 5:03 pm ET

Action over politics? You bet! Country first! :)

McCain/Palin 08! :)

Josh   August 31st, 2008 5:03 pm ET

I just read this on one of the other blogs on the topic of "How McCain chose his VP"…it touched my heart…

…..Obama picks people based on merit… If he wanted the "sure fire win",.. he could've picked Hillary. But he's not looking for who's the most popular… he's looking for who's the best person for the job. Once again… McCain's personal ambitions are shown to be more important than the good of the country….

My prayer is that I hope God is involved in this election so the right person wins!!!

Josh

bk   August 31st, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Huh
Leave your sexist comments off this blog.

Dori in AZ   August 31st, 2008 4:57 pm ET

McCain has NO executive experience. None. Zip.

McCain has never been a mayor of any town or city. McCain has never been a governor....

McCain needs to put Palin on the top of the ticket, and he should be the VP. According to his criteria, she is far better suited for the presidency than he himself is!

JT   August 31st, 2008 4:56 pm ET

It is time for everyone to get over all of the hypotetical "What I would do if..." Let's all get together and come together to help all of our brothers and sisters that will be affected by this hurricance. When Katrina hit, I was woking in Houston helping the affected citizens of NOLA, regroup and trying to help them find relatives and decide what the next step was.
It is time for us to put all of our differences aside and come together as one. It appears that the City of NOLA, the state of LA and the US Govt is prepared and has a plan that seems to be working. When we put our differences aside and use our common sense we will all be sucessful.

It is time, to move on from the rhetoric and take on the ask at hand.

Debi   August 31st, 2008 4:55 pm ET

This is so political it's downright shameful. Oh what a difference an election year can make. Too bad Bush and The Republican Party didn't show as much concern and compa s sion when Katrina hit. Their lackadaisal, slow response is one for the history books and thousands of lives were forever changed because of it. Many survived, many did not. It's three years too late for them. Republicans, your time is up.

Ralph, South Carolina   August 31st, 2008 4:52 pm ET

My dear Charlotte. The lady (Palen) is not experienced and Republicans need to stop claiming that she has more experience than Obama and Biden. It's just absurd and McCain is clearly pandering to women and ultra conservatives with this one. Where is this so called experience? She was the mayor of a town of 9,000 people in Alaska. She's governor of Alaska, a state of only 700,000 people. But there are 1 million reindeer, 800,000 moose, and 600,000 caribou in the state. I guess that has to account for something. There are atleast 15 CITIES (no states) in the United States with a greater population than Alaska. That makes atleast 15 mayors with equal or more experience. Let's not mention the state's diversity of people? It is practically non-existant. How can she relate with the folks in the contiguous U.S? Alaska is in proximity closer to Russia than it is to the contiguous United States. McCain blew it on this one and he will lose this election by a great margin as a result.

Huh?   August 31st, 2008 3:51 pm ET

McCain and his 'gal' with her bouffant ponytail will milk this one every which way. Can people not see straight through this?

Mason45   August 31st, 2008 3:51 pm ET

No Hillary/ No Obama
I hope that McCain wins the election so that people really get a chance to feel the wrath of 4 more years of McBush. Please don't complain, just remember your vote.

Good Luck!

Linda31   August 31st, 2008 3:41 pm ET

A press conference does not erase the image of you and Bush cutting cake the day Katrina hit.

Charlotte Luerssen   August 31st, 2008 3:35 pm ET

Brilliant move, John McCain! The question that many have....Is she experienced????????? She already holds the highest office known to mankind, Wife & Mother & seems to be successful at both of them. Common sense & wisdom will trump any college degree & genius everytime!!!!!!!!!!!! The Democrats are just mad because once again the Republican Party has stolen their thunder with swiftly executed & well planned actions.

Insulted Former Clinton Supporters for Obama   August 31st, 2008 3:28 pm ET

McCain does not care about the country. Why else would he put someone on his ticket that could be President at any time. What would that 3am phone call sound like? He threw Romney under the bus just to pander to us, we are not amused and are insulted!!! Does he think we would follow him blindly just becasue he put a woman on the ticket? Sorry, it won't work wil only result in a more unified Democratic party.

Obama/Biden 08/12

Farrell, Houston, Tx   August 31st, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Don't use politics to victimize these people again as they are still victims of Katrina.

Tim   August 31st, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Put off the convetion, delay formally accepting the nomination, continue to accept the growing private contributions to his campaign, and get the public financing when he does accept. Beet Obama at his own game.

Go McCain.

Mike, FL   August 31st, 2008 3:26 pm ET

This is a reminder of the Bush and Republican majority incompetancy during Katrina.

I still don't have much fate on Bush administration and I can only pray that the storm would weaken as it approaches the Gulf cost.

Mike   August 31st, 2008 3:24 pm ET

Hey McDraft. Don't forget the new girl. Lord knows she needs all the experience she can get.

judib   August 31st, 2008 3:13 pm ET

Who cares? We need to watch the storm and pray for the people of the Gulf coast.

gorefan   August 31st, 2008 2:59 pm ET

Recently, a website asked christians to pray to God for the skies to open up on last Thursday Obama speech. But the weather was picture perfect.
Now the Republican convention is in danger of being rainout or at the least severly modified.
I guess God decided to vote early.

No Hillary = No Obama   August 31st, 2008 2:55 pm ET

McCain – not afraid to take command, not afraid to make the big decisions – unlike Bush who vacationed as New Orleans drowned. And Obama is trying to say McCain is another 4 more years of Bush – Obama doesn't know what he's talking about.
