RNC: We need a quorum

ST. PAUL (CNN) – More information about how Monday's abbreviated opening session of the Republican convention will run should be available in the next several hours.

According to Credential Committee Chairman James Herring, a conference call is underway with RNC Chairman Mike Duncan and others to figure out the

details of what needs to take place tomorrow in order to meet convention rules.

Herring is also the chair of Mississippi's Republican Party and plans to meet with his delegation later today to assess whether anyone needs to go home to prepare for Hurricane Gustav. Herring said the priority for his delegation is to protect everyone's "life" and "property" but "we also need a quorum" to complete convention business.

Dear RNC- you don't need a quorum. You need a a REAL candidate.

The Obama-bots are having fun with this disaster. Some of their comments leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. God will get them for that..

Is Karma the force at work here? With Katrina, Pres, Bush and the Republicans were busy fund-raising in California when Hurricane Katrina struck. After taking the heat for last time's faux-paux, I guess they decided that the lesson did not have to be learned again. It's just seems such an obvious function of "what goes around comes around" for the GOP to be losing all that money on the Republican Convention. It seems just since they weren't tending to the people's business the last time a hurricane threated-and produced- disaster. This time it could be their disaster.

The repubs convention is in chaos. Nobody is in charge.

No more repubs, we have had enough.

Change is coming to Washington. Landslide Obama.

Now McCain can blame the weather to explain why crowds don't attend his rallies.

I know our Governor is not attending the Republican convention because we have no approved budget. Never mind it never stopped him before. His first year as Governor and he went on vacation to Austria and the entire state didn't have a budget. Now Ah-nold can avoid McCain because there is a hurricane, even though it's thousands of miles away and we won't see a drop of rain until probably December. :-)

I agree with you Martha, it certainly does seem to be karma coming back to haunt the GOP. Or nature demonstrating that Republicans are not to win the White House again this year. President Bush still doesn't care about Katrina, heck he still won't even help New Orleans after years of criticism for not reacting correctly. Remember the Katrina supplies that were delivered to jails, offices, and other places where there was no need for them a few months back? Items that Katrina victims desperately needed? The GOP deserves to have their convention wrecked, but New Orleans certainly doesn't deserve another devastating storm with a careless and severely irresponsible President like George Bush. I'm sure he'll react better this time around, John McCain's chances are less than a Ron Paul write-in if Bush doesn't do everything he can and more.

During Katrina, weren't Bush and McCain seen eating cake in a hangar?

Then this year all the republicans were praying for rain of biblical proportions on the Obama acceptance speech.

What IS going on here? Is God trying to say something to someone?

McCain you need a quorum. Let's see there is you and your soul mate. That makes 2. Maybe Cindy could be 3. Now will you tell the American People that this is all a joke and who you have really chosen as your VP. Please.

I have checked several websites on Sarah Palin. You are in trouble – when the truth comes out about her. She is being investigated by Alaska, she was on the radio in January making fun and laughing at someone that over came cancer – calling her names – she believes global warming is not man made – creation from all religions needs to taught in schools – do away with polar bears, she voted for the high that goes no where, then she changed her mind when she had to pay for it and the list goes on. Buckle up.

You have no concern for the American People. It's all about you.

DONT BE FOOLED by false REPUBLICAN bloggers saying we clinton supporters arent insulted by McCains VP Pick…HELL WE ARE!!

My friends an I have been EXTREMELY INSULTED by McCains' vp choice!!

this is OUTRAGEOUS..He is OBVIOUSLY selecting Palin simply because of her anatomy, and expecting intelligent american women, including Hilary supporters, to vote for him because of this!! NO!! Hilary isnt just "any women"..John McCain!! we support her for WHAT SHE STANDS FOR!! And this Palin women stands for the complete OPPOSITE!!..

she has even voted against womens rights......!!!

Yesterday we set up a group in my neighbourhood, consisting of 57 women already, who have commited to voting for OBAMA because of McCains decision.. a desicion which shows that he REALLY IS OUT OF TOUCH with women in America!! There is only one safe choice for women (and America) this year.. OBAMA/BIDEN!!!

Republican's what a mess your party is in. First you have a Republican President with the lowest ratings. Second you nominated the old, cranky, sick looking McCain. Third McCain then picked the worst VP possible little experience, ex beauty queen, when McCain is on stage with her she will look like his nurse. Republican's can't even get a break on their convention they have a hurricane hitting New Orleans, just to remind us voter's what happened last time it hit.

All the care about is making sure they don't have to share the media spotlight with the hurricane victims. like petulant children, they won't be satisfied unless they have all the attention for themselves. Dont' mistake this for true concern or humility for those in the storm's path. It's a self-serving, public relations move (like the VP choice!)

    AMERICA SEES THROUGH THE GOP.

God is trying to tell us to not support the GOP this year, I really believe they have lost their mind. For Katrina and now this, Mother Nature/GOD decided to literally rain on the GOP parade. Christians and Catholics take heed. God is trying to tell us something.

I refuse to vote this year for McCain and his tartlet that will set this country on a worse path than Dubya.

This will be a convention to remember! :)

Senator McCain and Governor Palin are both authentic reformers with proven records of accomplishment! Country first and action over politics wins the day! :)

Obama, the arrogant, obfuscating, prevaricating, equivocqting follower, will never be president of the United States of America!

McCain being in the Mississippi area is pointless show-boating. He can't do anything at this point. Even as a Senator. The evacuations and preparations don't need his authority to proceed or get any more done. It doesn't show that he cares more than others that he went there. That was simply show-boating.

As others have said, the McCain website has no mention of the hurricane at all. The Obama website has news on who you can contact if you want to help as well as contact information if you live in the area and need help getting out.

Altering the RNC Convention was the right thing to do though.

I find it disgusting that McCain would say it was time to take off his Republican hat and put on his American hat. He is making it seem like when is Republican hat is on, he is not American. Obama seems able to keep his Democratic hat on while still being a caring and concerned American.

Maybe if the so-called Christian James Dobson hadn't exhorted his sheeple to pray for rain, hail and 7 plagues to fall on Obama's speech last Thursday, the GOP would be having their convention as planned.

Maybe God is getting tired of His Name being taken in Vain and the power of prayer being used for nasty, political purposes....

McCain's former minister friend called Katrina an "Act of God" – I wonder what He may be trying to tell the Republicans???

Gov. Sarah Palin firmly put her foot in her mouth during her debut speech. She violated the first premise of operational security for military families. She announced to a world-wide audience her son’s specific unit, his MOS (military occupational specialty) and the specific dates of the unit’s deployment. This just is not done, ever. If I were the commander of that unit I would be screaming to the Pentagon to change the deployment and I would transfer that boy as far away from my unit as I could.

BTW, I am a military father and I did command an Air Force squadron during the Vietnam War.

Sarah Palin does not understand national security and she does not understand the needs of our great military. Sarah Palin is dangerously naive.

McCain is pretending to care now. Pandering to the core!

Where was he three years ago when hurricane Cathrina struck?

He was celebrating his birthday with his mentor Bush.

And it was not a sudden event. Bush and McCain where aware of the catastrophy; but they were more interested in McCains birthday celebration. And now after another McCain Birthday, Hurricane gustav comes knocking. And now along with Bush, he pretends to care

McCain = Winning Election First before USA!
