Put off the convetion, delay formally accepting the nomination, continue to accept the growing private contributions to his campaign, and get the public financing when he does accept. Beet Obama at his own game.

Go McCain.

I wonder if Rev. Hagee considers this the "wrath of God because of sin" as he did Katrina. Maybe God saw sin in the gop and decided to disrupt their party?
This is serious business folks- and we must have CHANGE from all these fanatics.
I pray for the people who have been and will be effected by this storm.

I'm curious to hear what those conservatives who suggested Katrina decimated New Orleans because it was a bedlam of sin and homosexuality have to say about a hurricane now possibly ruining their convention?

Perhaps God isn't happy they're facilitating the destruction of His creation through pollution and war?

I am outraged that Wolf Blitzer would allow Senator Dodd to go on and on about how the FEDERAL govt was totally responsible for the Katrina disaster, when anyone who had any real connection to the gulf coast, recognized that the NO Democratic Mayor and LA Governor at the time were the main characters who mismanaged the situation.
(Remember that the way it was handled in MS was entirely different than NO!)

This showed me (again) Wolf's total leaning towards the left and the Democratic party and he demonstrates absolutely no concern about a pending horrific situation in order to promote his own political agenda.

CNN does a great job covering real news, but I can't stomach, and won't watch any political coverage by Blitzer. We lost two homes in Katrina and I just don't want to see Wolf turn everything into a Republican bash.

It's pretty ironic they are in this situation, given that one wacko evalgelical telling people to "pray for rain" at the DNC not that long ago. Poor choice of words, irony, or whatever... The GOP should reschedule the convention for a week, this is an imminent disaster in a city that was destroyed, no one need to see Republicans party as a city drowns.

The Republican convention is irrelevant. It will just be a multi-day infomerical for the most flawed moral specimen to ever run for the Presidency.

The convention will tell you nothing about the central feature of McCain's life, which most people think was his POW experience. More significant is what he did when he got home.

McCain cheated on the wife who had endured that imprisonment with him while she was battling a crippling illness. He then left her for a multi-millionaire home-wrecker 17 years younger than himself.

I would wager that a majority of the American people don't know that about McCain. And they sure wont learn it from the Convention of from McCain's media lapdogs.

The Republican evangelicals (Dobson, others) prayed for rain to pour down on Obama's speech in Denver. Now look who may have shorten their convention because of a storm. This country needs to come together and stop using the Lord's name in vain. I PRAY that the folks in New Orleans and the gulf region are spared any hurt from this storm. This is what true Christians do!

I saw that the Republicans are considering turning their convention into a telethon to raise money for Gustav disaster relief, the Red Cross, etc.

What would be really nice is if McCain and Obama could come together and do this (maybe the RNC could invite him?, or maybe neutral ground would be better). Wouldn't it be something to see McCain, Obama, Bidden and Sara (and maybe the Clintons) all onstage together to do something like this ... to rise above the fray and selfishness and turn this impending disaster into a new day for our country???

Rick Warren could be the MC

It is a belief that when you want to hurt someone you might be the one to get hurt. Republicans wanted ir to pour and desired a deluge on the Obama speach. God is blessing them with what they desired for Democrats by spoiling their convention. We do not want the people of the affected states to suffer though.

I just watched your show focusing on the Republician National Convention. One of the commentors was Fred Thompson, former Republican Presidential Candidate. He had the nerve to compare Barack Obama's government experience with MS. Palin's experience stating that she has more. Based on that analogy, it would appear that Ms. Palin should have run for President rather than him because she has more government experience than him!!!

So basically they're pulling the plug on their convention because they don't want the negative PR. It isn't a gesture of respect for the people from New Orleans to cancel the convention. It is solely a question of whether people will be reminded of who let New Orleans down three years ago. I think it's disgusting that they think people will somehow forget what Bush did just by changing the date of their convention.

It is funny because the GOP ripped Obama and the DNC for having roman pillars at Invesco Field. If you look at the RNC it looks like you are at the Death Star waiting for Darth Vader to come out and speak. To bad Cheney is not going to be there, it was perfect for him

Hello John McCain and Sarah Palin. Welcome to Washington. I hope you have a great four years in the the White House.

obama is risky and I don't want to gamble with my country. Obama is as you know a roll of the dice. Who wants that?

Obama is left so far left he doesn't know where the middle is.

Go McCain

The media is so unbelievably biased they are becoming almost unwatchable. All the pundits on CNN are talking about how inappropriate it would be to allow Republicans to go on with their convention and attack democrats. They say that in one breath and than CNN puts Chris Dodd on who tears into Republicans with a vengeance, next comes Roland Martin who always attacks and attacks, but he's a Christian so it's alright. So let me get this straight CNN, it's appropriate for Dems to have their convention and today attack and attack, but Republicans are bad, they can't have their convention, and they certainly can't defend themselves against people like Dodd, and that idiot Martin. Got it, I used to be a Democrat, this candidate and the way the DNC are behaving makes me ashamed.

This is hysterical! Why would Bush stay home from the convention due to a hurricane? He didn't pay any worthwhile attention to Katrina! Like he really cares about the people down south....

I think it's great he isn't going to be at the convention in person. Such support for the ticket!

I was really looking forward to the convention. It makes you wonder... If James Dobbs and his followers hadn't prayed for rain on the democratic convention, would the republican convention be going through the effects of Hurricane Gustav? You reap what you sow you know? Never use the Lords name in vain; which is one of the Ten Commandments. Shame on you Mr. Dobbs. Hopefully no one is killed for your blasphemy.

Despite the the party buisness. I think this is great news. I think it would not be wise not to celebrate while close to a million americans are displaced from their homes. It also has to be mentioned that there were people in the republican party who openedly called on people to pray for rain when Barac Obama anounced that he would be excepting his nomination in an open roof stadium. Funny how things turned out.

I see that the current Republican Leadership (there may be some sarcasm in that) is using this weeks hurricane to avoid the convention. After McCain's inspired ( Dang Sarcasm button must be stuck) choice of Palin as the single most qualified woman in the entire Republican Party (not again), I wonder how many other members will suddenly decide that Gustav is forcing them to miss the convertion.
I could see the Governor of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal, after being slapped with this VP choice, saying he hadf pressing duties elsewhere.
I could see all the fine women who have thought that being qualified for the job would give them a chance such as Condolezza Rice, Kay Baily Hutchinson, Marsha Blackburn, Shelly Moore Capito, M Jodi Rell, Christine Todd Whitman and all the rest, saying this is indeed the best choice. But these fine Ladies just might have things to do in their own states, what with a hurricane coming.
And I could see folks like J C Watts, Tommy Thompson, General Petraeus, Colin Powell, Rick Perry, James L Jones, Tommy Franks
and Newt Gingrich thinking, "She is indeed much more qualified than I am to be one heart beat from commanding America in a time of crisis. Too bad I can't be at the convention; there is Gustav coming."

Darn that Gustav

One smart move would be the table the typical convention format into a mix of prayer vigil (evangelical vote), fund raising (moderates & independents vote), criticizing of government's past response (change vote), and policy for protecting our nation from all threats, natural and man-made (conservative vote?).

Just a thought. I'm voting for Obama/Biden so I really don't have a horse in your stable, but you might as well make it a tough choice for people.

Anyone else think Karma has come back to bite the GOP in the arse? We have had tons of storms, floods, and other natural disasters over the last 8 years and now suddenly the GOP wants to help. I have another idea lets follow McCain's policy of stopping earmarks to make sure that the vicitims get no relief. I think this is a harsh reminder of the failed establishment that has run this government over the last 8 years. On one last note, isnt it funny that there were ads from conservative groups asking for rain during the DNC convention and look at what happens durning the GOP convention.

I'm confused. The RNC Convention is in Minneapolis. Gustav is approaching New Orleans. Air Force One is not going to fly Bush into New Orleans for Bush to stand on the shore waving his fist at the storm. Bush supposedly fixed the Federal Emergency Management Agency. So why do Bush and Cheney have to Stay in DC? So either Bush and Cheney are not really wanted in Minneapolis, or we really need to upgrade the quality of Geography training in America.

I thought I heard someone on the right praying for bad weather for the DNC........................I thought then and now that was totally inappropriate for someone (an evang.) to say on national T.V.

Now we have this mega storm.....................and lives or front and center
It's God's will to control all, humans or just the vessels He sends!
GOD BLESS AMERICA and esp. those that elevate division and hate!!!

As an American I pray for the safety of all people of the gulf states who may be affected by this killer storm. One thing I'm sure many may be gratefull for is that this time this administration may actually GET IT. Bush had to be shown a vidio before he was promted to act during Katrina Lets hope this time they get it right . The convention should take place ,In itself it is not in harms way some of the speakers may need to be replaced due to their need to look after their states during this crisis. Jihn McCain needs to be able to accept the partys nomination and for the party to meet this newcomer Palin.

Possibly one change that is needed is beyond the point of being able to change it. How do you react to something like McCain’s selection of Palin for VP? Maybe call him a 'dirty old man'? Seriously, what the selection of Gov Sarah Palin as McCain’s running mate does, without discrediting her, is draw more attention to John McCain’s health, age and mental status. At 72 years old, with a history of melanoma and signs of some mental deterioration the question is, how long will John McCain remain functional and are they then really asking us to vote for Palin as president? McCain’s medical history, his physical appearance and his many blunders when speaking make that a very real and serious question with the considerable likelihood that, if he were to win the election, she would be taking over at some point. With all of that considered, the next obvious question is, should John McCain even be considered?

Re. the ‘dirty old man’ remark, to quote Senator McCain, ‘you have to have a sense of humor’ and ‘it was only a joke’ in referring to his obvious preference for good looks over experience for his VP. Yet the rest stated is very serious and considering his personal status the question, are they really asking us to vote for Palin for President, is simply a valid and real concern. Maybe the real change needed is at the top of the ticket.

That a President cant come and support the GOP candidate just show how bad the gop and Bush handle crises and they think that if they just chicken away people will forget they cant solve difficult times and situations. Its a shame that Bush tries to hide and dont dare to support his candidate McCain. The twin gop dont fool anyone.

Sounds like another excuse. I could understand President Bush absence, but Dick Cheney, Come on, I don't McCain really wants any of them at the convention.
McCain scares me. He picked his VP like his usually one-liner quck fix made in China solution. He only met this woman once, but she is pro-abortion, she is a member of NRA, she is liked by religious people. Then she makes her first speech and she starts pampering female voters saying Hilary put 18 million cracks. Obama doesn't run as a Black man, who cares if she is a woman. Stick to the issues. McCain quick-fix pick is a joke. I would have said Romney is a sound choice, but this quick fix is just a slap in the face just like his health care proposal and education no solution strategy. Four more years of what? George Bush? 10% change? I wish McCain had come before Bush ruined everything.

Fitting end to the Republican madness. They were praying for rain to disrupt the Dems and they got another hurricane instead. Karma, anyone? My understanding that the levees and pumps in NO do not work and will not protect the residents. Perfect. McCain is on his way into the storm to bloviate...shows his astonishing lack of judgement. He's a complete petulant twit.
