Biden reacts to Rove insult

Sens. Biden and Obama campaigned together in Michigan Sunday.

(CNN) – If Sen. Joe Biden was hurt that Republican operative Karl Rove called him a “big blowhard doofus” at an event in Minneapolis Monday, he didn’t show it.

On hearing the news, Biden grinned and said “he’s a great American.”

The blog Politicker ME reports that at a Maine delegate breakfast at the Republican National Convention, Rove, the so-called “architect” of the Bush administration, called Biden a “big blowhard doofus.” Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, is notorious in Washington for being talkative at Senate hearings.

Later, in response to a different question, Rove is reported to have asked "Is there press in this room?"

Biden addressed the criticism during a flight on his campaign plane Monday evening. A reporter asked if the senator would now answer to “Senator Doofus.”

“You can call me anything you want,” he said. “I learned a long time ago you can call me anything you want.”

Both political parties have made a point in recent days to draw down partisan rhetoric as Hurricane Gustav threatened the Gulf Coast. Biden said he would have no trouble drawing his sword in the weeks to come.

“I don’t think we’ll have any trouble resuming the campaign,” he said. “I guess Karl did it already. I guess he didn’t get the memo.”

Biden’s campaign spokesman quickly released a statement rebuking Rove for the comments.

“It’s more than a little sad that with another hurricane heading for the Gulf Coast, Karl Rove is up to the same old attack politics that he practically patented while helping dig a deep hole for our country to get out of,” said Biden Spokesman David Wade. “Americans deserve better, especially at a time like this.”

Karl Rove shouldn't be saying much about anything, he rightfully should be in jail, for "crimes against the best interest of this Nation". Who , in their right mind; other than some "out of touch" Republicans, could believe anything that "porky pig looking moron" has to say...........the architect, architect my arse!

Have Rove looked in the mirror lately? He's not exactly Rudolph Valentino himself.

Rov probably got the memo, but is too ignorant to follow it. He obviously feels it is more important to use his usual sewer (Rove) tactics that to honor McCain's request to focus on the catastrophe that might hit La. Shows how much he respects his party nominee.

"big blowhard doofus???". It's good to see that McShame is sticking by his promise to run a high-road campaign. Too bad he can't control his own people. Wonder what would happen if he tried to lead something big, like a country?

It would be nice if the Political Ticker would deal in more substantive information, and if that would get a more interesting discussion rather than just airing opinions and counter opinions.

Karl Rove is a liar, a war profiteer, committed treason and is morbidly obese. I believe all these statements are true. He should be prosecuted for the first three, the last will kill him eventually.

FOX News has him on occasionally which means RuperMurdoch gives aid and comfort to an enemy of the Constitutional Democracy of the Unted States, and as such should have his liscense to broadcast revoked, and should be banned from the United States as an undesireable0 alien.

Karl Rove just sit down, you have no credibility with the American people. Joe Biden is an honorable man and not a coward.

Why are you reporting such crap? I keep hoping for the media provide a forum that clearly delineates the policies that the two candidates endorse. I am definitely lloking in the wrong place when it comes to the media. Where can an American go to find an honest, intellectual discussion of the pros and cons of each candidate?

Mr. Rove the architect of the Repugs – it only fortifies why there is so much support for Mr. Obama- so that we can see this type of sleeze finally retired.

I find it quite refreshing that Karl Rove is supporting McCain and actually out campaiging for him. It makes my decision to vote for Obama more valid.
