Bush may address the convention via satellite Tuesday.

(CNN) — President Bush may still address the Republican National Convention via satellite from Washington Tuesday evening, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.

Perino said the White House is still awaiting world from the Republican National Committee about scheduling possibilities.

"We're waiting to hear what the convention decides on scheduling, so we haven't made any definitive plans yet," she said.

"We're not planning to travel tomorrow," she added.

WE NEED A REAL LEADER!!!!!!!!!!!

OBAMA 08

Herny the Independent from NYC   September 1st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

He didn't want to attend anyway. I wonder what the percentage of Republicans not attending the convention is?

SATELLITE   September 1st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Hopefully this will be "live on location" and we will be able to look forward to W taking an extended vacation in outer space.

Patrick   September 1st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

I am sure McCain is so disappointed that King George will not be at the convention. Because we all know how important that it was for Bush to be there! I would just love to hear a new speech about his strategery in Iraq or about how "more and more of our imports come from overseas, or my how there are rumors on the INTERNETS about the Republican party or "Pubs". The history books will tell of how Bush was one of the worst Presidents in (as he would say) AMURICUN history.

Kaye- Jacksonville FL   September 1st, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Oh, I sure hope so!! America needs to see that smug SOB attached at the hip to the RNC and John McCain….I can't wait to see how he mangles the English language before the delegates!

Michael Pensacola, FL   September 1st, 2008 9:42 pm ET

In other words, McCain told him to keep his distance!

Jodi   September 1st, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Everyone is missing the story here.
Bush and Chaney have been asked not to attend the republican convention to avoid the horrible photos of McCain standing with Bush on the podium…Why isnt anyone talking about this? This is the story, not the Palins pregnant daughter!!!

No Hillary = No Obama   September 1st, 2008 9:38 pm ET

Really, we don't need to hear anything from Bush except good bye and good riddance.

Nino   September 1st, 2008 9:36 pm ET

Waste of air space!!!

Reg   September 1st, 2008 9:32 pm ET

I agree with Earl too. When I look at McCain and Palin, Bush and Chaney are looking pretty darn good!

zii unum   September 1st, 2008 9:31 pm ET

I hope he speaks at the convention so everyone can see how identical he is to John McCain. For how unpopular George Bush is everywhere, it is strange that someone that voted with him 95% of the time could even be competing with Barack Obama.

Just goes to show how party politics really hurts our political process. John Adams had it right from the start….

Hispanic for Obama - Ricky   September 1st, 2008 9:30 pm ET

McCain would rather not have Bush speak…LOL. even though hes agreed w/ him 90% of the time he wants to distance himself.

Lets see what kind of comedy good ol Georgie can bring this time.

LarryJ   September 1st, 2008 9:29 pm ET

How convenient – for both McCain and Bush.
That way McCain still avoids having to hug and stand should to shoulder with his icon, the great role model of the Replublican party.

But I hope it really does happen, at least. I can't wait to hear the wisdom star dust sprinkling out of Bush…

tigerakabj   September 1st, 2008 9:27 pm ET

I concur with Earl and Dori.

I thought McCain would be just like Bush, but I was wrong. He is worse. And so is his VP pick. I wonder what else will come out about Palin in the next couple of days?

bridgette   September 1st, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Are people waiting with baited breath for this? Because if they are they need to be examined.

Monica for Obama in Indiana   September 1st, 2008 9:19 pm ET

That would be good Mr. President as leader of the free world. You are entitled!

John, WV   September 1st, 2008 9:16 pm ET

That's because he and McCain are so much alike, you would not be able to tell them apart if they hit the stage together in person.

Independent in New Mexico   September 1st, 2008 9:15 pm ET

Another excellent reason NOT to turn on the TV…..

Valerie - Raleigh   September 1st, 2008 9:14 pm ET

The delegates at the Republican convention may still support George Bush but the majority of the American electorate does not. Bush appearing at the convention with John McCane would, in no way, enhances his chances of an election victory in November. John McCane was, at one time, a good and decent man who I held in high regard but, since entering this campaign, he is just another far-right politican whose embraces the policies of the Republican Party that are no longer relevant in our country. I see McCane as the past and Obama as the future.

Independent99999   September 1st, 2008 9:12 pm ET

As if anybody is dying to hear to his speech?.
Does he ever articulated what a speech should be like?
Hope he learned from Obama's speeches

Donald, Canton NC   September 1st, 2008 9:10 pm ET

Spare us!!!!

Don't waste prime time TV on this irrelevant criminal!!

It'll be nice Cheney is out of the country, but at what expense? Instigating more problems with Russia?

How about Bush responding to Russia's charge that we supplied Georgia with weapons??????

Maybe Bush should be giving a satellite interview for a new job, something more on his level — RETIRED from public life.

Bob Stephens   September 1st, 2008 9:08 pm ET

I bet the RNC hopes that the satellite will explode, just prior to Bush's scheduled address….. The less they have Bush around, that better the chance of McCain losing in a gigantic landslide…

Tom   September 1st, 2008 9:05 pm ET

Yipee! Mission accomplished via satellite at the RNC.

John McCain – you can run but you cannot hide from Bush

Dawn in MN   September 1st, 2008 8:53 pm ET

Will he be wearing his republican hat or his American hat?
He is so pathetic. He has ruined our country's standing in the world. He has ruined the well-being of millions of Americans and lined the pockets of cronies. The republicans are really glad he didn't appear in person – especially McBush. I can't wait for his term to be over and for President Obama to give our beloved country a refreshing change and a path to greatness once again.

Donald, Woodinville, WA   September 1st, 2008 8:49 pm ET

So what.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   September 1st, 2008 8:49 pm ET

McCain now Bush are running away from doing a speech via satellite to avoid Americans seeing how unintelligent they are without reading every single word. These two guys didn't do too well in first grade because they were able to hide behind being bullies. Ignorance is bliss.

Tex Ann   September 1st, 2008 8:46 pm ET

I figure the real reason Bush & Cheney bowed out of speaking at the convention was that they were afraid they would get booed right off the podium. I think the majority of Republicans are as fed up and sick of both of them as the rest of the country is. They just saw the hurricane as an "excuse" to not go to the convention.

Dori in AZ   September 1st, 2008 8:46 pm ET

Oh, Earl! You're right on! Compared to McCain and Palin, Bush and Cheney are looking good!!!!

MK   September 1st, 2008 8:46 pm ET

Who cares? He should send his flunky Rove to testifly before Congress….now even I would listen to that!

Dale Ward   September 1st, 2008 8:46 pm ET

Who cares he is a loser and a lier,he thinks people are so stupid to think he really cares about the poor people in this hurricane No redemption, missed his chance with Katrina.

JDOD   September 1st, 2008 8:45 pm ET

SO What! Who cares!

Northwest Washington   September 1st, 2008 8:45 pm ET

I can hardly wait to hear him speak. He should have an opportunity to detail all of his accomplishments over the past 8 years. This should take 20 to 30 seconds and the convention can move on.

Credit Card Republicans   September 1st, 2008 8:44 pm ET

I look forward to hearing your suportive word to show America that McCain really does have your total support and he totally supports your programs and policies. I have supported John all along and at first I thought his VP choice was god but the more I see and hear about this youg woman and her lack of familyh values I am quetioning John's judgement and if he was so wrong on his first act what can we expect in the future!!!

Florida Daryl   September 1st, 2008 8:39 pm ET

I think George would do himself a lot of good if he were to say— My administration wasn't there when the American people needed them most during Katrina. I will do everything in my power to make sure what happened in Katrina, doesn't happen again…..

He'd get a few points in my book. Right now everything surrounding Gustav appears politically driven.

Finally I think it would have said lots if the RNC didn't let Bush speak— unless Bush is going to separate himself from McCain— I don't see how this helps me support McCain.

Bush just wasn't the greatest president .

VAN in TX   September 1st, 2008 8:39 pm ET

Bush and Ceney is looking far better than MCain-Palin…Can Bush run a Thrid term , please…..??

Leslie   September 1st, 2008 8:38 pm ET

What?? No warm and fuzzy moments of McCain and Bush hugging and kissing cheeks? Republicans are afraid of the ties and are keeping Bush home. I wonder of Bush is smart enough to figure that one out? Na….

BIG WIG   September 1st, 2008 8:37 pm ET

Bush is so disappointed. It all backfired. Ask hilliary about that. HA HA HA.

Jerry Thomas Burleigh, in Gilbert, Arizona   September 1st, 2008 8:37 pm ET

President Bush, perhaps an apology is in order? I voted for you twice, and am very sorry with what I got in return. Never has our country been in such shaky condition…and yet you seem to show no concern. I am a Republican voting for Obama and Biden in 2008. Despite all the rubbish McCain throws at him, Obama sticks to his message, which is that our country is too Great to let it go down the drain in this way. Let's fight to make it strong once again!

Jerry

Gosh America wake up!….the greatest democracy in the world and we might elect another 4 years of the last 8.

I think as American we have a solemn and important duty to put our prejudices and predispositions aside and elect the BEST President….not someone who agrees with OUR positions on cultural and religious beliefs.

I am a Catholic but do i want a "Pope and chief" or a President. It is so obvious that Obama-Biden is our best candidate for President/Vice-President

Vote the best candidate…to fix this country…that's what democracy is about…Vote with your head not your hate!

Feeling like you're getting support from people….47 Million dollars in one month.

Suspending your convention plans because there's a hurricane happening….one night.

Having the power go out when the most unpopular president in history wants to phone in his support….PRICELESS.

Latinos for Obama-Biden   September 1st, 2008 8:29 pm ET

After Bush I thought it couldn't get worse. Boy was I wrong. Panamanian McCain and his side-gate Ms. GATE, I mean Palin is a disgrace to this country.

i hope he does.
let him tell his fellow GOP that they wont have a job for much longer

Tony   September 1st, 2008 8:25 pm ET

If only we could elect George W. Bush to a third term. He is the only true American we've had on our side. Well also Rumsfeld and Cheney and Rove. These guys will be missed.

non black nonwhite   September 1st, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Bush should address the RNC and please CNN put this on primetime so the whole world can see that McCain and Bush are cut from the same cloth since most of Americans think this already.

Also if Bush can show up on "Deal or NO Deal" he can surely make time to show up for the RNC.

Ramesh Shrestha   September 1st, 2008 8:15 pm ET

The GOP convention will remain incomplete in the history without one of their greatest president. John McCain will lose the election if George W. Bush does not plead with the American people to vote for him. The generations will blame him for this historic defeat. How can he afford to take such blame through the rest of his life.

President, you must be there.
