From

(CNN) – A senior adviser to John McCain's campaign confirms that they have dispatched a team of 12 people to presumptive VP nominee Sarah Palin's home state of Alaska.

The adviser insists the group is a communications "jump" team that would have gone to any nominee's hometown, and denies reports that the team is now going to further vet Palin.

Is there a team heading to Delaware to cover for Sen. Plagerist?

Mike in Calgary   September 2nd, 2008 12:25 am ET

Don't pay any attention to that man behind the curtain in the WIzard of Oz. Don't pay any attention to the 12 investigators the McCain/Bush team scrambled onto the jet to Palin's home state of Alaska.
I am sure that there is an explanation for this, isn't there?

LOL...OMG....this is too funny!!! I mean really we all know the young girl did not tell her mother she was with child. HOW many folk do they really think will believe that McCain team knew she was pregnant prior to him selecting her? I mean lets call it what it is, a mistake of judgement on his part!!! NOW with that said I will say we not use her as a target of attack but, McCain is an open target!!!

Independent-Lee   September 2nd, 2008 12:23 am ET

What an absolute idiot. Moron.

Donald from SC   September 2nd, 2008 12:21 am ET

AAAHHH Finally,

After five loooong months the vetting team is dispatched!

Kathy   September 2nd, 2008 12:20 am ET

They didn't already VET her? This is the team and Man -McCain that would be in the white house?
They are a disgrace.
McCain is too old and makes too many bad mistakes and has the judgement of a cow.

WHEN PALIN AND MCCAIN POSED WITH THEIR FAMILIES, WHERE WAS THE MCCAINS ADOPTED INDIAN DAUGHTER,BRIDGET? ARE THEY ASHAMED TO POSE WITH HER? OR DON'T THEY WANT THE RIGHT WING RACISTS THAT MCCAIN IS PANDERING TO , TO KNOW THAT HE HAS A COLORED INDIAN DAUGHTER?wHAT A SHAME.
Also, he only chose Palin to try to get Hilary Clinton's women voters who were pissed that Hillary wasn't the nominated candidate for the democrats. It's so obvious! Nice try McCain- but you reak of desperation. Once again you will do and say anything to try to get votes. You have displayed Short term thinking- not desirable for a president.

Can McCain be denied NOMINATION?
He lacks judgment .. He cannot even pick a VP properly
Do you expect this Senator to run the country?

voter   September 2nd, 2008 12:17 am ET

McCain judgement on VP pick is a 0. Obama judgement on VP pick is a 10. McCain so called "experience" sure shows on his first important decision. The talking heads on FOX are trying so hard to keep a straight face when they have to defend McCain's VP choice.

Trish   September 2nd, 2008 12:17 am ET

As a lifelong Republican, I'm so disappointed in Sen. McCain's hasty and irresponsible choice. Not all repbulicans are far right conservative gun-toting, pro-life, NRA-loving. I suspect most are like me, moderate.

We value our country over party and would prefer to see a VP choice who is capable of taking over if McCain is unable. There are many who are more qualified to do so than Sarah Palin. This was cleary a decision aimed at winning the election and not in the best interest of the country.

The republicans are making this an issue–i think it is disgusting that McCain & Palin herself would put a 17yr out in the spot light like that just for politics-only to cause a stir....you should be ashamed of yourself Mr McCain...as for you Mrs. Palin...

Walters Takoma park   September 2nd, 2008 12:15 am ET

Mcsame is a disgrace or he made this decision on his 72th bithday to divert attention of his old age, plannind to hide her in one of his 7 houses or others he don't even know, we are facing serious challenges but u select a candidate who has never been to Iraq or who claims she is not aware about what is going on, she never been to Aghanistan, no foreignt policy credentials, serious ethics problem insist to bring a child to the world at 44 yrs old even against medical advice, now the poor child has Down sydrome but she abandons the child of 4 months to run for office with a 4 time cancer survival, for those of u who are not part of the medical field -Carcinoma melanoma is very deadly and cannot be contain, lets pray for Mcain but if something happens to him what we be the fate of this nation , evangelicals christian u guys should not vote solely on social issues .

Tex Ann   September 2nd, 2008 12:15 am ET

Boy, a little late on this one, aren't they?
If Palin has half a brain, she'll step down tomorrow (claim family responsibilities or something) and give McCain a chance to name a new VP choice.

Jim   September 2nd, 2008 12:15 am ET

Typical White person:

it's not the regnancy bit and the DUI. It's whether or not there's more, considering how much people other than McCain's team had dug up already in four days. They searched online and never went to the paper archives. A little too late, I agree!

DailyBugle   September 2nd, 2008 12:14 am ET

The McCain camp claims that Troopergate is a politically motivated attack on Palin. CNN, please do some reporting, starting with the following facts:

The bi-partisan Legislative Council Committee comprised of six Republicans and six Democrats voted unanimously 12-0 to hire the Special Investigator to look into allegations that Governor Palin or her staff exerted pressure to get her ex brother in law fired.

Palin held a press conference two weeks later and released a recorded phone call that revealed her close aide exerting pressure to get her ex brother in law fired, this after Palin denied any calls were made.

At that same press conference Palin revealed that her staff had made 24 different phone calls to the Department of Public Safety regarding her ex brother in law.

So, you mean to tell me that having sex outside of marriage and as a teen is ok, everyone's family is doing it? What kind of message is that? The Republicans are sending all kinds of ugly, awful, permissive messages to our young children. If McCain and Palin get into the white house it's like saying that not listening to your parents is OK, Having sex before marriage is OK, having a mom that isn't home to advise you and care for you is OK, and no one is to think about it or say anything about it because your children (Girls & Boys) can have sex when ever they want! I say BULL

The thing that gets me is that the McCain campaign listed "Mother of Five" as part of her qualifications. Having a 17 year old daughter who is unmarried and pregnant – is this someone who qualifies as great mother? If she were a man – she'd be crucified.

Vicky   September 2nd, 2008 12:09 am ET

If he truly vetted Palin they might see an error in judgement in the shape of a 11 hour plane ride and a 1 hour car ride from Dallas to Seattle to Anchorage to Wasilla all with a premature high risk pregnancy. The ability to think in a rational manner when posed with an emergency situation seems to be fundamental in "executive" experience. Why did Todd not try to reason on the side of safey but instead makes a snide remark about Texas. Their honesty and integrity seems to be right at home with McCain and his fine judgements over the last few decades. Its time to stop trying to keep Americans from looking behind the curtains and seeing the truth. All the McCain/Palin platform needs is a good scare tactic to complete the play from the GW/Rove playbook. Vote from your hearts and not your fears. OBAMA/BIDEN 2008

It's about time that the McPander to vet his veep thoroughly.

With this irrational VP pick (why not Senator Hutchison or Gorvernor Romney), John McPander's judgment should be carefully scrutinized.

skip   September 1st, 2008 11:47 pm ET

Forget the talk about Sarah Palin and her daughter. I'm more concerned about:

* Her lying during the announcement rally last Friday in Ohio when she claimed she had long been a opponent of the Alaskan "Bridge to Nowhere."

* The fact that she is being investigated for allegedly ordering a state commissioner to fire an Alaska state trooper, who just happened to be Palin's ex-brother-in-law.

* Palin's response to a question by Larry Kudlow on whether she was being considered as McCain's vice presidential running mate: "As for that VP talk all the time, I'll tell you, I still can't answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day."

* Cindy McCain defending Palin's lack of foreign policy experience to George Stephanopoulos: "You know, the experience that she comes from is, what she has done in government - and remember that Alaska is the closest part of our continent to Russia. So it's not as if she doesn't understand what's at stake here."

* Bob Weinstein, the long-time mayor of Ketchikan, Alaska, telling Rachel Maddow that he knows of no one in Alaska who was interviewed by the McCain campaign during any vetting process of Palin.

* John McCain choosing the person who will be a mere heartbeat away from the presidency - and putting less thought into that decision than I put into deciding which socks I wear in the morning.

I can't predict a time line, but let me go on record right here and right now:

By the time Election Day rolls around on November 4, Sarah Palin will NOT be John McCain's running mate.

This is serious business people. The pregnant daughter is not the issue. The real issue is McCain's ability to run things, do things right, do things professionally and his judgement.

It is clear that McCain did not do his homework when vetting Sarah Palin. McCain has met her only once months ago and had 15 minutes phone conversation with her. The next thing she was at one of McCain's houses in Arizona to be offered the job.

Is this the way McSame plan to run the nation. Shoot first and ask questions later. McCain's incompetence together with his temper and belicose behavior only spells trouble for the nation.

The next time a president McCain faces a Georgia crisis, he may explode again, as he did against Russia, and without all the facts push the red button and boom! we are at World War 3.

Jeff an Independent   September 1st, 2008 11:41 pm ET

Why is Gov Palin so popular in Alaska? Because she added a 2 1/2 % state tax to oil – which fully funds her state government and Alaskans pay NO income or sales tax. But who pays for that? You and I do – in a dime per gallon more for gas at the pump. Put 15 gallons of Alaskan gas in your car – figure $1.50 goes to a "Palin popularity fund." No wonder she wants to drill in ANWR! No wonder she vetoed wind and alternative energy bills! A public policy of personal greed (in this case for her state) at the expense of everyone else and the rest of the world.

SCW   September 1st, 2008 11:41 pm ET

Americans should be careful about voting for the next president.
- Nominated a vp just after a fifteen minute conversation, poorly vetted , no experience on the national stage.now selling after the market. bad judgement.
-mcsame, was asked president Bush said troops will be in Iraq for about 50 yrs mcain impulsiveness again , even 100 yrs. still bad judgement.
-Mcsame immediately after the the Russian-georgian crisis immediately asked Russia to unconditionally withdraw while both countries were still engage in fighting, threatening Russia, first and foremost the Usa should never fight a nuclear war with Russia and damage the entire universe, Russia has 5000 warheads compare to 3500 for the Usa and we need to work with Russia against Iran,N korea and even for the security of Isreal because a few Russian scientist in Iran they will go nuclear.

Sue in MI   September 1st, 2008 11:33 pm ET

Typical,
What is your problem? When I compare her to Obama, I see a strong family man who has taken care of his family, made good decisions on issues, and who is not afraid to speak his mind. He also cares about people other than the wealthy, and wants a better country for all people.
When I see Palin, I see a woman who was accused recently of covering up her daughter's pregnancy (this is the little boy born in April) and then hiding her in the bus this week. The little boy was born after her water broke in Texas. Palin finished her speech, got into a plane for Alaska, had a layover in Seattle, took a car from the airport several hours to her hometown to a specific hospital...17 hours in all after her water broke. Responsible mom? She also has an ethics charge pending in Alaska, SUPPORTED the bridge until it was convenient not to any more ( and lied about that in her first national speech), was part of an organization that wanted Alaska to become a country, and does not support women's issues. According to people in Alaska, she is not the rebel she purports to be either. In all of her elected offices, she has fired people who disagreed with her (shades of GWB) and her approval ratings are not as high as are being reported either. Oh, and I heard a Republican big shot call her "a rock star" tonight. Interesting, since they spent a month slamming Obama for that.
So who should I respect?

KATHLEEN   September 1st, 2008 11:33 pm ET

McCain's Team is Lying

From Atlantic Monthly:

"The Federal Bureau of Investigation did not participate in the vetting of Gov. Sarah Palin and did not conduct a background check as part of the process, an FBI spokesman said today.

The Washington Post reported Sunday, citing an interview with campaign manager Rick Davis, that the vetting process ‘included reviews of financial and other personal data, an FBI background check and considerable discussion among the handful of McCain advisers nvolved in the deliberations.

‘In general, we do not do vetting for political campaigns except as it might regard investigations needed for security clearances,’ said John Miller, the chief FBI spokesperson.

The FBI did not participate in a vet, nor did it run a background check of Gov. Palin as part of the process.

Palin might already have a clearance that relates to her duties as governor. But the FBI can’t speak to that, and in any event, those investigations wouldn’t be accessible to the McCain campaign anyway."

Sallyanna   September 1st, 2008 11:32 pm ET

I feel very worried about Sarah Palin being nominated as the VP
for the Republican party. As the distance between the rich and the
poor becomes greater, we don't need someone who advocates
keeping information about birth control out of the schools and
making abortions illegal and whose own family shows how that
just doesn't work. 17 yr old girls forfeit their futures when they become
pregnant so young. They are unable to take responsibility for their
actioins so their parents, family members, and the tax payers share
their burdens.
I hope voters think twice and three times about voting for the
McCain, Palin ticket.

I've lived in Sarah Palin's home town of Wasilla, Alaska for 40 years.
She comes from a great family, but NO WAY is she prepared to be Vice President of the United States. The fact that she thinks she can step in and do that, tells you how immature she is. Even her own Republican Senate President, Lyda Green told the Anchorage Daily News that Sarah Palin was not qualified to be Governor let alone Vice President. Everyone wants her elected because of her star quality...she's beautiful, has a beautiful smile, but that won't help in a crisis. The fact that McCain chose her as his running mate tells me that he could care less about her abilities...he was in the market for someone who could attract attention.

Morningstar   September 1st, 2008 11:27 pm ET

When a young teenager gets herself pregnant, it's not just a slip; it reflects a lack of parenting and some family dysfunction. You can only conclude that Sarah Palin is more about political opportunism than about core values as a 'family values' parent. The honorable thing, for her family, her party and the country, is to withdraw and go home to Alaska to deal with her family issues.

Proud American of African Descent   September 1st, 2008 11:26 pm ET

I have many questions for this GOP ticket:

I wonder why this is a private family matter when Bill and Hillary Clinton had a "family matter" it was anything but personal and private. Double standard politics.

I wonder what is the age of the fathere? If he's over 18, isn't that statutory? I wonder if that will be swept under the rug.

How do GOP reps claim she has better experience then Obama when he had to battle past the Hillary Clinton machine of campaigning, meeting with everyone in the world and weighing in on every issue for the past 18 months when she's been the gov of a state with less people than most large cities in the U.S.?

What kind of command decisions did she make as head of the Alaskan National Guard?

Is the rest of the country ok with her views on creationism? the world was created 6000 years ago?

So, if my daughter was raped and was impregnated she should go through a ful term and wind up hating and mistreating the child because it's a reminder of a horrible situation visited upon her? i'd be forced to help her to a back alley abortionist who would probably kill her too?

She was vetted for VP by having two meetings with McCain? are you serious? what kind of judgement is that?

I feel insulted by her presence on the ticket. Out of all the people in the Republican party who are pro-life, pro-gun, anti-gay, females...this is what you bring us......Booooooooooooooooooo! get off the stage!

The Neocon-Repub-militarists buried, and have gotten away with, lying America into WAR, for Chrissakes! They’ll smother family squabbles like Trooper-gate.

How many cover-ups have they carried out in the face of Congressional inquiries (e.g., Rove), court cases (e.g., Libby), Pentagon investigations (e.g., Office of Special Plans)?
For these guys, this one's a cakewalk.

What can't be covered up is how incredibly political, shallow, and country-last McCain’s choice of Palin was.

MikeH   September 1st, 2008 11:25 pm ET

Typical White Person, What heck's the matter with you, McCain DIDN'T vet the candidate for EXECUTIVE SECOND IN COMMAND for the United States President.

Why are you so incapable of admitting how ABSOLUTELY IRRESPONSIBLE McCain's choice of Vice President is.

Sara Palin is Governor of a population equivalent to Bakersfield, California. Alaska does not have a State Budget, it gets all its revenue from the Oil Industry. Sara Palin has a bachelor's Degree in Journalism. She has no legal education, NONE. And she is being investigated for abuse of power bordering on nepotism.

How can you claim to be a loyal patriotic American and support THIS TRAVESTY?

Vetting NC   September 1st, 2008 11:24 pm ET

Do we really want this type of decision making in the White House on whether or not we go to war? I forgot, we already have.

Todd M   September 1st, 2008 11:24 pm ET

Well, that may not have been their original task, but they definitely are going to vet her now.

Pam   September 1st, 2008 11:24 pm ET

This is fun watching McCain's campaign scrambling to do what they should have done before he picked Gidget to be his running mate.

Dennis   September 1st, 2008 11:24 pm ET

I cant wait to see if Alaska end up going to Obama because she is on the ticket

Texas   September 1st, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Which means that McCain is vetting her furher. Now they are afraid of what else may be there they don't know. But what else do you expect, McCain vetted her for 15 minutes and by phone.

Boys and girls, learn the lesson, that's what happens when you don't do you homework.

FemaleDemInsultedbyMcPalin   September 1st, 2008 11:22 pm ET

This is backwards! You're supposed to vet the candidates BEFORE you select them. John McCain had five months to do this!

No how. No way. No McCain!

Mr. X   September 1st, 2008 11:21 pm ET

Of course this is routine... kinda like when a team of lawyers and damage control types descended on Delaware after Biden was picked.

Oh... right. That didn't happen.

Well, better late than never, I guess.

-TYPICAL WHITE PERSON-
Your comments are so-well typical of someone who is against Obama. I was a coach for my son's baseball team and I made decisions where the buck stopped with me, does that qualify me to be a V.P. candidate? You guys better get some better talking points because this is about to get real ugly real quick.
There are also comments she made about the war in Iraq being about oil. I betcha the old man didn't know that either.

Marilyn, Powell, OH   September 1st, 2008 11:19 pm ET

How will Karl Rove and Fox News spin this story??????????

You people are very hateful. Glad I am not one of you!!! You are the reason I am not voting for Obama and I am not alone.

Jason   September 1st, 2008 11:18 pm ET

@ Typical White Person

With that argument – neither has McCain.

And Obama's executive experience over his own campaign is more extensive than her mayoral "experience." Her 1/2 term as governor has produced no "buck stops here" decisions either.

Republicans = we need to thrown the bums out

Foreign Observer   September 1st, 2008 11:18 pm ET

McCain's on record saying he often makes hasty decisions and then suffers the consequences later. If he were president, guess who'd suffer the consequences? This is a very dangerous man. I'm still waiting for the CNN poll on "who is more likely to plunge the country into another war, McC or O?"

Sue   September 1st, 2008 11:17 pm ET

I don't know what's worse, not knowing about her past before you choose her – or knowing and choosing her anyway! Is that the kind of judgment we want to lead our country? I also find it disturbing that they would encourage a CHILD to marry. What does a 17 yr old know about marriage. 3 years ago she was in middle school. Sick.

Jack in Springfield, IL   September 1st, 2008 11:17 pm ET

With Obama only having a 1% lead in the polls a few days after his nomination acceptance speech, I would say that McCain's pick was a good one. I also suspect that the Obama camp will continue to attack Palin on non-issues.

tedious898   September 1st, 2008 11:17 pm ET

If the republican brand were dog food, it would need to be removed for the shelves.

How can any honorable american call themselves supporters of John McCain? During Katrina and his subsequent votes in the Senate indicated his utter disdain for the lives of americans floating around (dead) in New Orleans. He and his twin (DUMBYA) were eating cake.

Now they want us to believe that their absence from the convention is to help victims in the very same place. Best choice to lead this country – my foot.

Obama honestly cares because he's trying to be president for all americans. Not just the ones the republicans like.

AOA Seattle   September 1st, 2008 11:15 pm ET

"The media are already trying to spin this as evidence Gov. Palin is a 'hypocrite,' but all it really means is that she and her family are human," Dobson said

...is anyone else feeling as sick as I am? That Palin will now be more appealing to evangelical christians because her daughter getting pregnant at 17 proves that [Palin] is human?

That's how low our moral values as evangelical christians has gone...wow!!!

lala   September 1st, 2008 11:15 pm ET

Honestly, I think even many Republicans realize that this was not a smart pick...of course they have to put a positive spin on it, what else can they do? But, this was really not a wise decision. And, I truly think that it is insulting to women (because it is obvious that is why he picked her as she has no qualifications), that he would think we would vote for just ANY woman. She even admitted in her speech that her basic role in this thing is to "woo" Clinton's 18 million votes...are you kidding me?

If you voted for Hillary based on the ISSUES there is NO WAY you can vote McCain...IT DOES NOT MAKE LOGICAL SENSE!

Art   September 1st, 2008 11:15 pm ET

Typical White Person:
Better yet, compare and contrast her to Obama, who has never made a single decision where the buck stopped with him.

Uh, who is being delusional here? A very good friend of mine who is a Repulician talked about how disappointed she was that Palin was selected–she feels that Palin was selected for all the wrong reasons and Palin's life story does not make her the person that could be next in line if something happens to McCain. My friend said that she cannot support the McCain-Palin ticket.

Mr C   September 1st, 2008 11:13 pm ET

Jim   September 1st, 2008 11:13 pm ET

I am very worried about McCain's decision process as shown by his hasty VP selection! He does not seem to operate in a rational universe like the rest of us, but relies on his "gut" and "instinct." I cannot imagine a more dangerous trait for a president!

Republicans talk non-stop about "experience" as if that were the sole criterion for leadership. Intelligence, rational thinking, wisdom and judgment count for so much more. McCain loses and Obama clearly wins in those categories.

Kayla   September 1st, 2008 11:13 pm ET

This is what happens when you select someone just because she is a woman. Pawlenty or Romney would have been an easier sell and they have both been in the media eye much longer . This is a disaster if these stories continue to be "news" every day .

Colleen Patrick   September 1st, 2008 11:12 pm ET

Gov. Sarah Palin's own Republican Senate President told the Anchorage Daily News lately, that Sarah was not qualified to be a Governor let alone a Vice President. They have had a LONG standing feud, and a lot of people in Wasilla would like to know what that is about.

The Christian Right and teen abstinance what a joke.

BL   September 1st, 2008 11:10 pm ET

The communications team is actually a damage control team which is going to divert attention from and cover up Palin's screw ups. Well, this further proves McCain's decision is nothing but wreckless. Perhaps Stephanie Miller was dead on: she could be the first VP candidate is US history to crop out.
Now THAT'S history in the making.

Funny how it's this same "cart before the horse process" that got us into Iraq instead of pursuing Bin Laden. I wasn't Obama's number one fan by any stretch, even thought McCain may not be so bad if he picks a decent running mate. However, this BS just motivated me to sign up with the Obama campaign to do my part to push Georgia into the blue column. Two months ago, I thought like he** I'd lift a finger to help him. Like most elections, one again, we in the middle, whether we lean left or right, have to choose the lessor of two evils and put country before party. I finally get it, "eight is enough"!

TO ALL THE Obama jerks: if your candidate was so wonderful and so refreshing after 8 years of GW who has the lowest approval rating, with ridiculous gas prices, falling economy, and a divisive war in Iraq: why isn't your candidate way ahead in the polls? Could it be people really see what his judgement leads to? His past record of his judgement is nothing to brag about. Need I mention his pastor, Ayers, Rezco. His accomplishments are nothing. Until he actually walks on water, his rhetoric is a joke.

He never vetted her at all. They met once prior to the meeting where he offered her a place on the ticket. The problem here is NOT her, it is the way McCain makes decisions. If this continues to drip drip drip it's not good. Maybe right wing religious nuts love her, but will independents ? I don't think so. Too much is leaking out that is not good in only a couple of days. Miss Congeniality ? yeah right.. she's qualified. She loves PORK barrel spending! HA ! She really does not KNOW that McCain if elected would take that away from her.

This is like a cartoon. She's become a cartoon character in only 3 days. Can't wait for a whole week of this nonsense. All the initial reports have proven to be wrong, those glowing "wow she's a hockey mom" .. it's just laughable to me . If they were smart they'd dump her now before she is actually nominated. Yeah she got them attention alright. Is this the attention she wanted ?

well I think that Barack is right that Palins children are off limits, that is admirable of him, however if this had been the other way around Obama wouldnt be afforded the same treatment. I dont think Obama has the resources to be sending people to Alaska to be digging up dirt on the Palins. People who think that is the case are a bit naive. She has her own enemies and they are not happy at all and I guess this is pay back. I would start with the ex brother in law if i wanted to know who leaked the story.

As for the experience part non of the two Obama or McCain have ever been president unless McCain is treating America like a nephew McCain been groomed by uncle Bush to take over the family business, hence i think that on is just a lot of hot air.

America, has more important things to be looking at like the economy, Jobs, pollution, the war, national security etc not trivial things like this. So what....... if she is pregnant does it put food on your table….

lanetta brooks   September 1st, 2008 10:57 pm ET

I am so disillusioned. Palin is obviously a good person, but probably needs to pull out and focus on her family's acute issues. I feel sorry for the daughter who is probably already disappointed with herself, and now she is completely humiliated publicly. I would admire Gov Palin more if she did the right thing for her family. Too many scandals and too little time to prove herself to America. The show is unfortunately over.

jm from sc   September 1st, 2008 10:57 pm ET

Typical White Person, you should start comparing Palin to Obama and start with education. Obama will run circles around this lady. Experience does not start when you get to Washington. Obama's leadership ability started in law school and continues on. He has the wisdom and the judgment to lead this country. He has shown much better judgment than John McCain. However, republicans and people who fear the change in the status quo, will say anything to get that old man in the whitehouse. He was not an attractive candidate when he was younger, so what makes him so desirable after he became senile?

fromhillarytomccain.com   September 1st, 2008 10:56 pm ET

We at fromhillarytomccain.com wish to thank Senator John McCain for choosing a woman for VP in his run for the White House.

Barack Obama made a critical decision not picking Hillary. The Republicans are staying Republican...the Democratic Party had a chance at unity and chose old Washington politics. They chose someone who was in Washington much longer than McCain.

Let's not forget that Hillary Clinton has changed history and that a female MUST be in the White House in 2008 and Americans made this point loud and clear.

It might have been a little better for John had he not made a rash decision in making the choice to compensate for the Democratic Convention but the religious right is eating it up in his favour.

Granted, the girl should NEVER have been on this international stage, the mother is unfit because of that and should have taught her daughter about abstinance, which SHE advocates, or give her birth control or let her have sex education. Kids do these kinds of things, get pregnant and will not do what their parents say all the time, so help the children not get children by giving them birth control to prevent this and making her get married will most likely end in divorce and make life miserable for the future mom, dad and child, divorce is a terrible thing to go through.....

Roofin Reality, Houston, Tx.   September 1st, 2008 10:52 pm ET

I believe that Sen Obama doesn't need to send a jump team to Scranton, Pa or to Delaware. This just goes to show you that McCain is "too quick", no pun intended for Cindy or anything like that you dirty minded embiciles out there.
Look, if you go back to the Saddlebrook program, how many times did McCain "jump" the question? At least twice that I can remember, once on the Supreme Court justices, a question that hadn't even come up yet. And two, on the teachers question where he answered yes, yes and get another line of work, before the question was even half way completed.
It seems to me that McCain is quick ti anger and even quicker to a decision. The bible says be slow to anger.
I think he's demonstrating a quick temper and in these trying times, exemplified by when he quickly said "we're all Georgians" before getting all the facts.

Enough of having the quick answer like President Bush on a) going to war in Iraq unnecessarily and then b) saying major combat operations are over and we've won in May of 2003 aboard the Navy cruise ship. And lest anyone forget, it was Senator McCain as well who said that we'd be greeted as liberators and that we'd won (all in 2003).

David   September 1st, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Wow... you folks are really anti GOP... this is not about Palin... it's about you guys reaching for whatever straws you can find... how about Obama spending 20 years under the wings of an anti american pastor that said the US government caused AIDS to kill black folks off... get off your high horses... Eileen from Maine   September 1st, 2008 10:51 pm ET

It's the cover up team. They have been hard at work, so far scrubbing Wickipedia and ordering all of palin's inner circle to NOT talk to any press. Any information about Palin will now go through the McCain campaign spin cycle before being hung out to dry.

I hope Gov. Palin is a tough lady, her families lives will be put through the wringer. It isn't really fair to them. John McCain has no shame and believes that women are to be used in any way that can benefit him.

Ralph   September 1st, 2008 10:50 pm ET

McCain wants to be president and he does not even have the skills to properly pick a VP. Didn't McCain win the republican nomination in late winter? How long has he had to select a VP? Is Palin really the best choice he could find in the republican party? Has the party of Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt come to the place where all you have to be is pro-life to be nominate for VP? I think Barack Obama is correct McCain does not have the judgement to be president!
McCain definitely did not put "Country First" in making this selection! He put his election first! Reminds me of Bush!!!

First, this selection for VP seems to be an act of despiration on McCains part. How could you not have known the political intracacies of your candidate. McCain put the cart before the horse. Secondly, There is no comparison between Senator Hillary Clinton and Gov. Palin. Hillary Clinton has 8years of hands on governance experience under the tutelage of President Clinton. As for Governor Palin's 17 year old daughters pregnancy, I think the governor needs to remain close to her daughter at this time. If Palins husband is gone to work on weeks end who's maintaining the home. I just think this situation is leading to more confusion and chaos.

Politically Speaking   September 1st, 2008 10:46 pm ET

And you GOPers call us kool aid drinkers? McCain could put a frog to run next to him and you'll find a way to spin or just attack with your 'talking points' which carry no merit.

The Clear Thinking Independent   September 1st, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Senator McCain has been niave and reckless in selecting Sarah Palin as a reaction to Senator Obama selecting Joe Biden and having a blockbuster convention.

I don't want a president that is a tactical reactionary.

I want a president that is a strategic pro-actionary ... John McCain can't do that nor can he fake it over the next 9 weeks.

If he needed a social conservative, why not pick Governor Huckabee

He needed an economic powerhouse, his best pick was Govenor Romney but his "I-don't-know-my-HOUSES gaffe spoiled that one.

If he needed to try to prove he was a Maverick ... he should have picked Lieberman

If he wanted a the most capable VP from day one, he could have pick Governor & Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge.

If he wanted a woman he could have pick Kay Bailey Hutchinson.

If he wanted a woman and a minority, he could have pick Secretary of State Rice.

If he wanted to install a next generation link, he could have picked Pawlenty.

He picked NONE of these though. Instead he hastily picks someone that he's only spoken to a couple of times and someone he hardly knows. I don't want that kind of Chief Executive in the White House, my friend.

Kent   September 1st, 2008 10:45 pm ET

I'm sorry. I've been a loyal Republican my whole like, but I love my country too much to see this travesty. Reagan is rolling over in his grave with this VP pick. McCain has screwed his party and his country, just like we always knew he would! That's it!

When is Obama stepping down as the nominee? After all he has done far, far worse in Chicago than Palin and the looney left is calling for her to step aside. I think all the yelling from the left about Palin just really shows how scared they are at loosing in November.

david , atlanta   September 1st, 2008 10:44 pm ET

You know, reading all you Obama supporters on these blogs, and all the sarcasm, and hostility, and uninformed nonsense, is very reminicsent of a George W. Bush supporter in '04. It is absolutely irresponsible to not be informed about your elected leaders. However it is easy with Barack, he has nothing to be informed about. Biden does have a long history of sweetheart deals to the banking industry, just look up his bankruptcy bill he authored a few years back, and look into his son Hunter, the banking Lobbyist. If then you stil feel like Biden really gives a crap about you, then go ahead and cast your dispersions on Sarah Palin. All you self rightious idiots

Jeannie Jertson   September 1st, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Sounds to me that McCain did the same thing with his VP selection that he did with the decision to go to Iraq. Didn't do his homework – AGAIN.

I find this is very unusual!! I have found she quickly fired the head of the library and a police chief at small town she was mayor at. She was close to being recalled as a group had formed demanding action or recall. Palin reinstated the library chief, but police chief filed a law suit as he had a signed agreement when he was hired that he could not be fire without good reason. Only given reason why he lost was because city council had not voted upon the agreement. Document still existed according to newpaper reports.

Sounds like McCain is going there to put all the legislators in line. Clean it all up. I just wonder if FBI is there already?? Possibly the big wigs are stepping in???

C.K., MN   September 1st, 2008 10:43 pm ET

McCain, you have so much experience but you just show another lack of sound judgment in picking Palin as your VP nominee. Palin is being investigated for abuse of power up in Alaska—this is a very serious charge. Can you imagine what she’ll do if/when she’s VP? Also, she is a staunch proponent of abstinence education, but do you know the story about her teenage pregnant daughter?

McCain = Experience???

Bulldog   September 1st, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Running his National campaign has been just as much of a challenge as Palin in small Alaska. Obama has done an awesome job running his campaign while both McCain and Clinton have had major shakeups. Obama beat arguably the most powerful political power in the Clintons which proves to me he has excellent executive leadership skills. He will prove it even more when he beats McCON and Palin who nobody even knows yet and has her own corruption investigation to worry about.

missouri bob   September 1st, 2008 10:37 pm ET

I support McCain but this is a disaster and this is the end of his presidential ambition. The best the GOP can hope for at this point is that they keep the social conservatives together for 2012 when they will be able to blame everything on the Dems. By then the Bush years will be a disatant memory.

godfrey   September 1st, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Fact finding after making a choice for the worst is just another evidence of the McCain 'FLIP-FLOPPING and LOST-OF-SENSE-OF-DIRECTION' machine.
It is clear that McCain and his campaign crew are lost in making a simple VP choice, and they are running around like chicken with the head cut off, just like the Bush administration have been doing for the past eight years. McCain and his lost crew CONNOT be trusted to lead this country in the right direction...... Please no more four years for this man and his Bush policies. Americans have learned their lessons.

Seems that Palin honed this skill back as Mayor of Wasilla, where she was nearly recalled, for firing the Police Chief and Library Director for not supporting her in her 1996 race for Mayor.
Yes, that's right. Hack n' Sack Sarah didn't even try to hide it. She didn't say the Police Chief and Library Director were doing a bad job. No, she fired them for "not fully supporting her efforts to govern" (i.e., not endorsing her for Mayor).

There is no way this is going to end well for McCain. Either she will leave in disgrace, err, "better devote her time to the care of her family" (You meanies!) or McCain will be forced to dump her and there is no positive spin on that. Or he will have to keep her and have all the discussion be about all her multitudes of scandals and how could he pick her knowing that?

Whichever way it shakes out, people's view of McCain's judgment is shot to hell.

I wonder how many of his former rivals, if any, are planning a nomination coup?

Carl from MI   September 1st, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Yeah, right!! That's why you vet your VP choices!!!

Did you hear James Dobson embracing the whole Palin's daughter pregnancy thing!! What hypocrites!! They talk and talk about family values.... they talk about the effectiveness of abstinence programs.

Her daughter was home schooled by Palin herself!!! She did such a good job instilling 'family values' and 'abstinence' in her daughter that her daughter went out and had pre-marital sex anyway AND WILL NOW HAVE A BABY OUT OF WEDLOCK!!!

This woman is going to lead-by-example? She's going to inspire 'family values' in our nation... when she's a failure at inspiring it in her own daughter? Abstinence programs HAVE BEEN PROVEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN TO NOT WORK!!!

They just don't work... and Palin's daughter is living proof!! Looks like there really aren't a whole lot of 'family values' in the Palin family!! And she's supposed to be the Republican Party's VP poster child and shining example??

I can't WAIT until November... can you say ‘LANDSLIDE’???

WAKE UP, AMERICA!!! VOTE SMART.... NOT SENILE!!!

Sue   September 1st, 2008 10:34 pm ET

she really leaped before she looked. was there no consideration for the daughter and her well being. knowing that the media would pounce on her child. she seems to be sensitive to no one but herself and her desire. they're carrying the downsyndrome baby around like a trophy to show how much of a strong struggling mom she is. so what's the spin on the pregnant daughter going to be. perhaps she's the next trophy to show that she's so pro-life that she would not even consider abortion for her own child. I guess the more trophies you have the stronger you are. Oh Yeah, she sounds like a considerate loving mom to me!

Is McCain taking this seriously?

Hey, let me give you a tip...NEVER insult a womans intelligence – like you did with this trophy vp pick – it will come back and bite you hard. The polling is already showing signs. Obama's lead with women continues to grow.

It is to late for me to suport him in anyway now but for his sake I hope he recants his choise for VP and picks someone that could really be President if God forbid he is ever selected. If he wanted to appeal to Hillarys voters he has at least ten republican women in office to choose from that are more well known and have twice as much experience.. He chose her for one reason and one reason alone ALASKA'S OIL....

From a Mother   September 1st, 2008 10:32 pm ET

As a mother, I would not have subjected my teenage daughter to the scrutiny that she would endure due to her mother's nomination for VP. Especially when she has to know deep in her heart that she is not qualified to run a country and as VP, especially one under a 72 year old President, has to be ready to do so. Palin ran a one horse town and was governor of a small state. Everything did not run as smoothly for her as the Republicans would have us believe. She had problems with it and she would have tremendous problems running a country! Why put her daughter through this unnecessarily? Bad Judgement!!!

LFugi   September 1st, 2008 10:31 pm ET

If I were a Republican, I'd be really worried right now... This does make me seriously doubt McCain's judgement. Shoot first, ask questions later? Is that how he handles all his important decisions?

McCain needs a miracle with the media in the tank for Obama. It's the Republican convention, and Anderson Cooper is giving Obama more airtime than the Republicans have gotten all weekend. It's just disgusting.

Dear McCain Vetting Team:

In future ventures, you may want to look into a resource called "The Internet". Once you find a copy, you may want to look at the index. This resource calls their index "www.google.com". There are other indexes as well. Choose whichever you are comfortable with.

You might also want to look into the relevent section that gives you the major newspaper for a selected state or city.

This is a very informative resource. You will be amazed at the volume of information they give you for free in just a few minutes time.

Sincerely,

It's now more than obvious that McCain is not too big on clear or effective communications. The ongoing snafu with the Palin selection is making the Republican candidate look rather foolish from a number of angles. But the biggest joke is McCain's " campaign communication spokesman"- Tucker me out something....
In a interview with CNN's Campbell Brown this evening, good ole boy Tucker couldn't even answer one question directly having to do with the Palin selection without trying to spin the facts and attacking Obama.
Senator McCain and my dear Tucker- you are both pathethic. George Bush is a great communicator compared to you two!

One more thing   September 1st, 2008 10:28 pm ET

And one more thing....if McCain reconsiders this VP choice, or if she steps down, and he chooses someone more suitable, we cannot forget his poor judgment in making this original knee-jerk choice. If this is indicative of the sort of governing and judgment we'll see from him as POTUS, we should all be very very afraid.

Dori in AZ   September 1st, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Are you aware that when Palin was elected as Wasilla’s mayor in 1996, the population was about 4,600, and she fired the police chief and library director because she didn't feel they were supporting her? She refused to give any specifics to Alaskan media as to how these people weren't supporting her. Instead, she told the newspaper some nonsense about how she knew it in her heart....

The poor librarian got her job back, but the police chief didn't.

McCain's campaign should have been in Alaska to vet this woman long before he became smitten with her. What did he tell us after meeting her once, talking to her once, then offering her the job? Oh, yeah. That when we got to know her like he did, we'd love her.

Off the wall hilarious, McCain!

Gene   September 1st, 2008 10:27 pm ET

McCain where is your judgment to lead this great nation?

Ron from Bel Air   September 1st, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Hey, it's not Palin's fault if the McCain side don't act responsibly toward the fate our country. As some have said, this may well be like the Harriet Myers' case, where we now believe she was innocently led to believe she was ready for a job that her "judge" (GW Bush, in her case, for the Supreme Court) apparently had no good fell for or understanding of. Ms Myers thought she was indeed ready for that sort of position, that surely the President of the United States had ways of determining/vetting the appropriateness and worth of her nomination.

So far, it looks like the same happened here, doesn't? We have nothing against Palin; indeed, there is little record to even react to. That McCain now send a dozen investigators/spinners to Alaska says much more about his "judgment" than about hers.

Doesn't it?

Hey Typical White Person   September 1st, 2008 10:27 pm ET

The point is not that her daughter is having a baby out of wedlock..who cares?

Nor is the point that her husband had a DUI over 20 years ago...

The point is that this man...John McCain..who not only says he has the judgment to be President of the United States...but ridicules his opponent for NOT having that judgment...In his first major decision as a canbdidate for the office..just simply and cynically reaches out to a neo-Dan Quayle without really looking into her background or fully sitting down and making a sound determination fn her fitness to serve as President,,,,
That is the issue! What will John McCain do with the other...far more important issues that demand his attention?

Generation X   September 1st, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Deb, Allentown PA   September 1st, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Most of the other ticker items on the pregnancy are closed, so I'll post here in response to some of the comments I've seen.

No one should be denigrating Bristol for her pregnancy. It happens, whether we want it to or not. She made a mistake and hopefully it was HER choice to keep her child.

And yes, it is a family situation and should remain within the family...to a degree. When McCain and Palin tell us they want to overturn Roe v Wade, taking away that choice for future young pregnant women who have made a mistake, that's when this becomes open for public debate.

I simply do not understand how conservative family-value voters can, in all good conscience, support Sarah Palin in a role as VP. With a 4-month-old child with Downs, and a 17-year-old daughter in a very difficult circumstance, if she is any type of decent mother, her commitment has to be to them. She can not serve her children and her country as VP; either her children or the country will suffer, most likely both.

Dewtrell   September 1st, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Was he ever in charge of a Navy Command; for example was he ever an executive(XO) or Commanding Officer (CO) of any naval branch.…. no where in McSames Bio does it mention executive service where he and he alone made decisions that affected his suboordinates lives or financial issues….. Sarah Palan's nomination did not make the experience question go off the table that question between the 2 presidential nominees should have never been an issue because neither have it; Baracks campaign, temperment, family values, and judgement (wins hands down) are the best example that we have and he is the best choice for the job…. Obama/ Biden

If we are going to talk about Gov Palin then let's talk about her, not her daughter. Her daughter is 17 and anything can happen at 17. What I do question is the fact that her mother and father said she is an adult, what 17 year old high school-er is an adult. I do not see why the situation is being compounded by marriage. The chances of this marriage making it are slim to none. What does this say about the judgment Gov Palin has when it comes to her most prized possession her daughter?
If the press wants to look into things look into the firing of her ex brother-in-law. Maybe there were reason for him to be fired but if she used her office in any way to accomplish this, that would be wrong.

In the middle of a critically important election it is shameful to have a bitter controversy develop over the whether a political unknown is fit to serve in the second highest office in the nation.

While the other candidates were working night and day, month after grueling month to demonstrate their qualifications, Ms. Palin was nowhere to be seen or heard. She wasn't even interviewed by the national media to comment on the debates, much less participate in them. She would have been torn to shreds in the Republican debates. And, of course, Sen Biden will be vilified if he goes after her in the debates. Can we expect Russia, Iran, N. Korea, China and the terrorists to also go easy on her?

We know nothing about this woman, except the homespun syrupy gush and spin from a the usual cast of desperate, chirpy supporters.

Her very candidacy is an insult to the American voter. As one critic pointed out, she is a mile wide and an inch deep. John McCain should be ashamed to have inflicted this tabloid nonsense on us.

Kim, Dallas, TX   September 1st, 2008 10:23 pm ET

I find this all quite amusing, if it weren't so scary. Something could happen to McCain due to his age or health and we would have this lady as president. Someone we know very little about and what is coming out about her is not all that wonderful. What on earth was John McCain thinking? I was excited about the possibility of Mitt Romney. Them together would have been a force that would have been difficult to beat. Putting Palin on the ticket just makes them look like they are pandering.

But forcing 17-year Bristol Palin to marry the father for the sake of her mother's beliefs is an issue. Marriage is a lifelong commitment. Has anyone asked whether Bristol and the father are ready for that LIFE LONG COMMITMENT?

Another issue is Sarah Palin’s far-right “abstinence-only” views. I don’t want any VP pushing her Evangelical views on me or my country. One “Monica Goodling” is more than enough.

"We have always encouraged the parents to love and support their children and always advised the girls to see their pregnancies through, even though there will of course be challenges along the way. That is what the Palins are doing, and they should be commended once again for not just talking about their pro-life and pro-family values, but living them out even in the midst of trying circumstances".

The Republican Talking Heads: every time a male questions anything about Sarah Palin's credentials you'll hear "I find that demeaning to women" ..get used of that phrase ..."I find that demeaning to women" ..there's the strategy behind this VP choice ..Oh and "she's got more experience then Obama" ..Obama got 18 million votes from the American people to capture the Democratic nomination ..Palin got 150,000 votes to become Governor of Alaska ...."she got more experience then Obama and when you question her credentials I'm offended, I find that demeaning to women" it doesn't get much more cynical then this ...

Tricia   September 1st, 2008 10:17 pm ET

Things happen in all families but Sarah Palin does seem to have put career before family. Flying from Alaska to Texas to give a speech which was simply to advance her career and flying back while in labor to give birth to a premature baby who was known to have special needs. Mothers-to-be in their mid-forties usually need to take extra care. Then we find her daughter became pregnant at around the same time while in 11th grade. Was she looking for attention? Was mom neglecting her eldest daughter?

Now they are talking of marriage. When? How old is the father? I would say that these parents should consider staying in Alaska and working to give their children the support they obviously need. Bristol needs to complete at least her high-school education and I find it hard to believe that a wedding is seriously planned. Seems the father as well as Bristol needs help and advice.

Methinks McCain got distracted by those black go-go boots. In his own words, this is how seriously McCain takes the VP position.

"Well, basically, it's a Google." –on how he's conducting his VP search, Richmond, Virginia, June 9, 2008

"The role of the vice president is to break ties in the Senate and inquire daily into the health of the president."

Machiavelli, Baton Rouge, LA   September 1st, 2008 10:17 pm ET

I now like the fact that evangelicals are circling the wagons in their support of Palin's pregnant daughter. Now their argument is that the Palins are model citizens because they chose to give birth to an illegitimate child borne by a seventeen year old. What would their argument have been had this been one of Obama's daughters? Now McCain has taken another page from Karl Rogue and sent a team of communications people to start their spin doctrine in an effort to get the American people acclimated to teenagers giving birth. I am offended to think that McCain wants the American people to accept this woman as a potential Vice President of the United States. She is no where near ready or capable of running a country such as the US. It is obvious that McCain picked Palin in an effort to garner votes from disaffected Hillary supporters, and Palin was a willing participant in the game. In the process, she has committed the ultimate sin of a mother betraying her own child by marching the daughter before a slew of cameras to tell the world she is pregnant as a teenager. Palin obviously has no dedication to anything if it stands the way of her getting what she wants.

Ha! Yes, let's do compare her to Obama, who, so you say "Typical White Person" has never made a single decisin where the buck stopped with him. Obama has made a very important decision and that was to pick a qualified, experienced, and serious candidate for Vice President. He also decided to spend several months vetting that Vice Presidential candidate. Looks like those are much better decisions than McCain has made in the last 42 hours. Shall I go on? Sure, why not. He decided to use the internet to create an on-line 2 million person supporters network that has raised him over $100 million. Pretty good decision. He also decided to co-author a nuclear non-proliferation bill in the Senate. He also decided to go against the billion dollar war in Iraq and suggest a timetable for withdrawal. Pretty good decisions. I'd love to go on but why don't you share all the smart decisions Palin has made in her illustrious tenure as sports caster, PTA mom, beauty pageant contestant, mayor of Wasilla, and Governor of Alaska. Let me get you started...she decided to support the infamous Bridge to Nowhere! Go ahead, your turn...

Perhaps, for the good of her 'ailing' children, Palin should decline the vp post and stay closer to home.
44 years in Alaska she was fine. They do things differantly there. Her small town life has NOTHING to do with everyday America...
I'm not being cruel, I know small town life, I live 7 miles from the nearest town which has a population of 2100. We can do 'things' here that wouldn't play well on a national stage.
She had her 15 minutes of fame, too bad her daughter had to be collateral damage.

Mary   September 1st, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Oh great. Is this how he plans to run the Presidency? Make a crucial decision off the cuff and then go back and get the information needed to make it in the first place after the fact?!
This nomination is a joke and an insult to the American people. So far in 48 hours I've discovered first that not only is this candidate as right-wing as they come and has no experience to lead this country but hey!, she's supposed to get my vote because she's a woman. she's being investigated for corruption! Then viola! her 17 year old daughter is pregnant and planning a shot-gun wedding with her mother pulling the trigger. Should I have suspected that when all the photos of the 17 year old featured her with the baby in front of her waist? Now I hear her husband has a DUI, she's hired a lawyer to fight her corruption charges, she's not well-liked in Alaska and her numbers are slipping.
And this candidate has the audacity to portray herself as someone I should respect, admire, and vote for? A mother with a 5 month old Down syndrome baby, a son going off to Iraq, a 17 year old pregnant daughter, a husband who is so irresponsible he drinks and drives and this woman can focus on running our country? I think she either is as insane as McCain in making this decision or Palin should go back to Alaska and tend to her family.

Lovely in VA   September 1st, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Here's what happened.... After everyone with any smarts declined his offer and after Barack announced Biden, McCain had no choice but go yella. He offered Palin the job and she accepted. After telling her family, Bristol told her the happy news and Palin relayed this to McCain prior to her first speech. McCain said he found out last week, well that could have been last night prior to midnight.

McCain used palin for his own intrest. He will do any thing to get into the white house.he knows this is it for him.He is using Palin because she is an acttractive woman ,so she will appeal to to thsoe men who looks for whats on the outside.when he found out her daughter was pregnant and is keeping the baby ,he used her to appeal to the abortion rights, and to appeal to women.McCain has shown that he is nieve and has very poor judgement if he thinks the american people will fall for that.

KyKellyGirl   September 1st, 2008 10:11 pm ET

All of this is a reflection on the poor judgement of John McBush. His motto has always been shoot first and ask questions later, much like the St. Paul police. Doing the vetting after you've named her your running mate isn't exactly the way it's supposed to be done but no one ever accused McCain of doing things correctly, after all, he is a Maverick.

Concerned Voter   September 1st, 2008 10:11 pm ET

News teams need to go with McCain's camp to validate any truthful information: taking millions in earmarks, almost recalled as mayor, leaving her town in $20 million debt, firing her staff when they did not support her mayoral bid, troopergate controversy, and family value issues (husband's DUI and mother of the baby). I feel that Gov. Palin is just another political ploy used by McCain to get votes.
If any Democrats were facing these same allegations, the Republicans would be singing a different tune.

What are they going to do if these Palin fiascoes are proven true? They have already committed, the GOP/McCain have made their choice and committed publicly, so what is this current vetting going to prove?

The sheer FACT that the GOP entourage will be going to Alaska now, says it all, they do believe that they have made a huge error in judgement! The vetting should have been carried out BEFORE NOT AFTER, and considering how much longer than Barack, JOHN McCAIN HAD TO THINK ABOUT HIS VP PICK, THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LUDICROUS!

I just watched the Larry King show and was appalled at the way the congresswoman from Minnesota response to James Carvell every remark was "I find that remark offensive to women". What I find offensive to women are women who use being a woman to shield the truth. Gov. Palin being selected by John McCain is a slap in the face to those women truly possessing the experience to be Vice President whether Republican or democrat. Remember, we are voting for the top of the ticket. Therefore, if he had chosen someone with more experience with a few differences on issues, I would respect him more. I do not respect Gov. Palin for even thinking that she is experienced enough to hold this position. Lastly, I would hope that these females discussing what women want, like or dislike should use the words, "THE MAJORITY OF THE WOMEN I KNOW", and not speak for all women.

Gina   September 1st, 2008 10:09 pm ET

This just only confirms that McCain is too old to be President. His judgment is appalling and what is more appalling is the conservative base with their "Spin" that this person is qualified and it appears by all accounts that Pallin was not properly vetted. This is just tooooooooooo scary, she is not trying out for PTA President, she is running on the ticket to be Vice President of the United States of America....this country is facing some serious challenges and for McCain to chose his VP pick this carelessly is pissing me off.

Gov. Palin probably wished that she could 'reconsider the offer to run as vice president", of the Republican ticket. And the facts are, she is not only attractive; but she seems to be a decent person, good parent, good mother, loving wife, and a smart up and coming politican. Why would she allow herself to be "sucked into this sea of political madness", she may drown before the actual election...........

James Whittaker   September 1st, 2008 10:08 pm ET

I find McCain's choice for VP, Ms Palin, was a very smart move. The democrats, including the press, is only mad because they were hoping John McCain would had picked a white, rich, elitist. Also they think that because Obama ran for the democratic nomination and garnered 18 million votes, that this proved he is more qualified than Ms. Palin in being President. That is so comical. She has more political and business experience than Obama does. Also, if Ms. Palin's daughter became pregnant, it was not because of her own absentience policy failed, it is because the liberals have corrupted our nations's media, schools, businesses and culture with free sex that the nation is now well beyond saving. What I find ironic is when the democrats are advocating free sex with anything and everything – and then get caught cheating on their spouses – they only have the guts to lie.

Typical for all of you liberal robots to spout off the hatred.

I thought you all wanted change. Isn't that why you support Barack?

But your mindless attacks of a woman who is a truly dedicated mother, governor, and woman are no change from the numbingly cold Bush Administration.

I guess you all realize that if you can't attack her on the issues, attack her character. (Which is better than most politicians, even the chosen one himself)

Sarah Palin is too good a person to have to put up with these senseless attacks.

jr   September 1st, 2008 10:03 pm ET

McCain's shown incredible lack of judgement. To know of her total inexperience, troopergate, and now her daughter's pregnancy and still pick her (knowing that it wouldn't play well with the "family values" folks)?? (And if they did know of the pregnancy, why not head the problem off, by letting it be known when Palin was announced as the pick, before it became public in this way?) There are so many other qualified candidates.

Anyway, as a BO/JB 08 supporter, I am thrilled. My bet is that Palin will be gone by this time next week. (If it happens after the RNC, does there have to be another formal nomination process for the new VP candidate?)

David Duke   September 1st, 2008 10:02 pm ET

If it turns out she got too much baggage, they can't just go out and getr a new VP. Dems and Independants would be all over that, clearly as bad decisionmaking.

Dori in AZ   September 1st, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Is this like trying to patch the roof while it's raining? CNN and other media need to stay on top of this before the McCain campaign starts trying to change Palin's history, rather than vet it.

If everyone was so okay and willing to be so upfront with this situation, why didn't Sarah Palin, while doing her introduction this past week, say that she was the proud mother of five and was soon to be a grandmother? (She did, afterall, tell us all about being a hockey mom and her husband being an athlete.)

Why was Bristol made to carry her baby brother around, covering her belly? The poor girl looked like a deer caught in the headlights. Obviously, she was not supposed to be exposed just yet.

Shameful McCain and Palin.

John McCain is showing a trend of shooting from the hip before he thinks things through.

Remember a few weeks ago during the Russian/Georgian conflict. It took him less than 12 hours once we heard about it, for him to declare we are all Georgian's now.

Now we have the knee jerk Palin announcement before she is vetted. This guy is going to play our country with us in it like we are the craps table in Vegas.

Man, I really don't get how any mother with a new born child and a situation like this would want to be away from home and on the road campaigning . Really a bad choice for anyone running for such a big office position, which really makes me question her and McCain for picking her.

So she is running for VP, running Alaska, raising a family, and being there for her daughter who is now in the spot light? I would never choose to do something like this if I had these things going on with my family. We all know the media eats this stuff up, why would you put your family through this?

WA   September 1st, 2008 10:00 pm ET

I bet McCain does more investigating when he buys a nw Car than he did picking a VP! I think he just picked a Lemon! :-) If his lack of judgement wasn't so sad it might even be comical. Larry King asks the Republicans directly – is Palin the most qualified Republican for the VP nomination? THEY REFUSE TO ANSWER BECAUSE THERE ARE OTHER WOMEN REPUBLICANS (WE KNOW HE PICKED HER ONLY TO PLAY THE GENDER CARD) THAT ARE HIGHLY QUALIFIED WITH GREAT INTEGRITY.

For election geniuses, you'd figure Republicans would know to vet candidates BEFORE they join a ticket. Sarah Palin ought to be ruthlessly pounded on this. It shows the hypocrisy and failure of conservative policies and the fact that she can't govern the country if she can't even control her family. Republicans have gained office solely on their smears of others. They are the ones responsible for dragging politics down to the level its at today, but now whine like little babies when it's directed back at them. I hope you enjoy the medicine you've been dishing out all this time. Republicans climbed to the heights of hypocrisy after hitting Obama for his inexperience, then picking someone like Palin. Palin and her Republican friends deserve every shred of criticism possible.

Obama's never made a single decision where the buck stopped with him?

Really?

Seems to me that he picked an appropriate person to step in as vp. Seems to me that he made the decision that Hillary would not be asked to be vp. Seems to me that he is running a campaign with about 2500 employees, with a multi million dollar budget, and ran a masterful convention.

Seems to me that he's told the American people that if believes anyone in his campaign uses the familial issues of the Palin family as campaign fodder, he will fire them.

That sounds like the buck stops with him.

Jan O'Donnell   September 1st, 2008 9:54 pm ET

Wake up America before it's too late and we get another 4 yrs of Bush-Cheney!

Marc   September 1st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Wow, is that the guy you want making the big decisions in Washington ? Can't even vet a mother from Alaska ?

Busy Mom   September 1st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Oh, good idea. Let's finally vet this woman. Frankly, she's scary. The psyche of every teenager I know is extremely delicate. I finally worked through the teenage pain with my son and none of it was easy and all of it happened between me and him, his high school counselor and, for a short time, a psychologist who was truly skilled in dealing with teenagers and their parents. I would never have put him in a position where he was the subject of a national media frenzy – and he certainly wasn't pregnant. I am here to attest to more than the delicacy of the pregnant teenager's life. I would think that Sarah Palinwould be looking at her entire family and trying to figure out what she needs to do to step up and take care of these people. She has an infant who will require extraordinary love and attention. She has a teenager who has stepped out of bounds. She has three other children who are trying to figure out what's going on – I can't even understand what kind of a monster picks NOW to say, Okay, yeah, let's join the Republican ticket and run for VP. She's a creep, and I mean that in the deepest, most malevolent sense of the word. She's a member of the It's All About Me Club – the creepiest club of all. Watch this family melt, right before your eyes. And kudos to John McCain, who knowing all this, said, I want you! We'll be following this/her story for years. She should be ashamed – and we don't even know if this is the end of it.

LBlanken   September 1st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

The nominatin of Palin for VP opens the door for many mayors in the country. If being a mayor of a small town gives you enough experience to be VP than everyone's aspirations just got bigger. A guest on Larry King just said that Palin wouldn't want to be compared to Hillary Clinton and least Palin has accomplished something. Excuse me lady , I don't know where you have been, even if you don't like Hillary I don't think you can honestly say that Palin's experience even compares to Hillary's. Come on now. If I was Hillary I'd be so pissed I'd campaign for Obama day and night. McCain's choice has made a laughing stock out of American politics.

Matt   September 1st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

didn't think this one through too well, did you John?

Keysha   September 1st, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Nowwwww the want to "COMMUNICATE" ! ( WOW) but too little too late.

sick n tired   September 1st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

It is pretty clear that McCain made a last minute choice out of haste rather than think it through just to get votes from all of the upset HRC supporters!! Which should say alot about this pandering old crone!! WAKE UP AMERICA !!!

gpm   September 1st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

I think that BIG trouble is brewing from Alaska. She is both a political and intellectual joke. These words are what the people in her state say about Mrs. Palin:

"a number of leading Republican officeholders in the state who mocked Palin's qualifications. "She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?" said Lyda Green, the president of the State Senate, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"

R.I.F.   September 1st, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Probably goign there to payoff whoever is behind Troopergate. Bush, Rove and McCain will make sure this this investigation disappears.

Michelle D. - Atlanta, GA   September 1st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

How many Republican Operativesw does it take to hush up or spin a scandal? 12. Good luck on that.

And to think the Republican party is either stupid enough or has the balls big enough to stand behind McCain and this crackpot lady and insist this is the best their party has to offer??? That this is what America needs to lead the country to a better place???

Come on...Americans are through being lied to and this is certainly no example of good judgement or morals on either candidate's part. Did McCain really know about this when he chose her or was he blindsided because his campaign failed to do the background research necessary?

America...we can do better!

Strong woman in NYC   September 1st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

I am watching Larry King right now and I've noticed two things:

1. Republican supporters never answer a question directly- they always spin a different answer and change the subject.

2. Everytime someone says that Palin is inexperienced and have the facts to prove it, the supporters always use the sexism card and say that they are offended. This is yet another distraction from the point.

This tells me that they are working hard to make people think Palin is qualified when she's not.
It is an insult to women everywhere that the gender-card is being used for such little things and so often. There is no honor in that.

kamuzangaza   September 1st, 2008 9:51 pm ET

This after-the-fact vetting seems to be too late for the man who claims to have the BEST JUDGMENT! I had questions from the beginning about this man (Mccain); who on earth would hire somebody after just one meeting of 15 minutes? Maybe age is taking its toll!!!!!!!!

MAVERICK IS NOW A GELDING   September 1st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

No, need now, the careful vetting process has already happened so we were all told by you, now would be kinda useless would it not.

See McCrypt, this is exactly why you should not be president, obviously, you have no appreciation for the fact that this is the information age. Not to mention you think you could hide a "baby bump" with a blanket. How 1950's, not to mention the obvious insult to most American's intelligence level, but I forgot you graduated 894 out of 899, just goes to show not all of our IQ's equal our age..

So,Maybe since you have now added liar to your resume, you should just bow out now why you still have a shred of human dignity left.

bdm   September 1st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Am I correct in stating that Ms. Palin has a whopping bachelor's degree and that qualifies her to be the vice-president of the United States? God help us.

Perla   September 1st, 2008 9:50 pm ET

Hey, Typical White Person, you're not.

This white woman knows there are plenty of reasons to knock Palin, who calls herself a feminist but would put women's rights back ages. And then there is that pesky separation between church and state that she doesn't seem to get one little bit. I don't care if she wants to practice a conservative patriarchal theology–but keep it out of the schools and government, thank you very much.

I'll throw my lot in with Obama, Biden, and the polar bears. If you like the great white huntress–be my guest.

barbara   September 1st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

What a waste of money sending 12 people to Alaska now to do what should have been done before Senator McCain made such a reckless decision. Maybe he should have spent more time with Governor Palin before declaring to all of America that she is "his soulmate."

Obama- Next Stop.. White House   September 1st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

This is living proof that John McClown's judgment is NOT what this country needs as a Commander & Chief. This woman (McPalin) is CLEARLY not the best pick for Replub VP choice.
1.She governs 9000 people in a state where there are more deer than people. Her so called CEO experince was managing 50 people.
2. ZERO foreign policy experience.
3.He met her one time 6 months ago and interviewed her 15 minutes.
4.Under criminal investigation.
5. Husband was arrested for DUI.
6. Teenage daughter is pregnant.
7. Has only been out of the country 1 time in her life. WOW
8. etc etc …I am sure there is more..... as it has only been 4 days since the pick and we have plenty of reasons to see why she ia HORRIBLE choice for VP already.
This will be the worst pick for VP in American history!!! I am sure she is a nice lady but this country needs clear & sound judgment. (Barack Obama)
People put you prejudice's aside & vote using clear & sound judgement….it's IMPORTANT to OUR future.

Obama/Biden

Johnny   September 1st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

Another case of emergency damage control. Wonder how they will go around editing websites and printed media to make Palin look and sound better.

Hair-trigger and reckless McCain at it again. Ready, SHOOT, AIM..

as a member of the NRA and even Palin will tell you.

ready, aim .. then Shoot!

capricorn1   September 1st, 2008 9:49 pm ET

cameroncrazy1984   September 1st, 2008 9:48 pm ET

"If anyone thinks Palin didn't tell McCain about the pregnant daughter and the husband's DUI, you are seriously delusional."

So, she told McCain's campaign before she told her own advisors? Yeah, that's totally reasonable.

aughhhh   September 1st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Too little, too late!

McWho?   September 1st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

whats there to cover up?...
@typical white person...either way it is bad for McCain.if he knew and still picked her then he was willing to put all of her baggage out in the streets, distract us from the importance of the issues, let her family suffer under the scrutiny...
if he did not know, then that's plain imcompetance..either way McCain has bad and dangerous judgment...he only met her once...now would you ask a stranger to watch your kids with knowing little if nothing about them?

LT for Obama   September 1st, 2008 9:47 pm ET

Their vetting process was to do what amounts to a quick online search. These people did not talk to very many people including the Monagan who she fired and is under investigation for, the local newspapers in which they would have found out that not only are her approval ratings dropping like a rock but that she is not as popular in Alaska as they want us to believe. There is also another investigation that started up a week after the Troopergate investigation started.

As the McCain supporters love to tell us all the time...WAKE UP AMERICA.

Herny the Independent from NYC   September 1st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Palin's selection is a joke. It is a ploy for McCain to attempt to attract women voters, mainly those that were Hillary supporters. The fact that Mrs. Palin's positions are on opposite sides of many things Hillary Clinton fought for and still fights for today should be a clear indication this won't work. Palin's position on abortion and abstinence are put into question as a result of her 17yo daughters pregnancy. How can a Vice President advocate for abstinence in our public schools as a better way to secure our kids futures when she can't teach this concept to her own child. As a result of her position on abstinence she would seek to have sex education only teach abstinence in public schools while this practice alone has failed in her own household. It is a valid question she needs to answer too. It relates to the question of unwanted pregnancy, parental training and poor family structures in which an unwanted pregnancy may result. Which all relate to her postionon abortion and whatever infulence she might have on any supreme court selections.

America for the Truth   September 1st, 2008 9:46 pm ET

YOU MEAN THE REPUBLICAN RIGHT WING VP ALREADY NEEDS THE RIGHT WINGED REPUBLICAN COMMUNICATION MACHINE.

LETS KEEP THE CORRUPTION OUT OF POLITICS.

VOTE OBAMA 08

Randy J   September 1st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

This just shows what a political, desperate choice McCain made. Gov. Palin, of abstinence is the only method I teach my kids ideals, is showing to be a less maverick than hypocrite.

She hired a private attorney in her corruption investiagtion, I guess the State's council has other pressing duties – sounds like a true reformer to me.

All women should be insulted that McCain made this unwise pick in a clear case of pandering to Hillary voters. Equality means the best person regardless of gender, nobody can tell me Palin was the best person for the VP choice.

Xavier   September 1st, 2008 9:45 pm ET

This is an insight into how MCCain makes decisions. He has shown poor judgment in picking his running mate. Met her once and is now sending his "team" to Alaska to vet his pick after the fact.

Barb   September 1st, 2008 9:43 pm ET

Leave it to team McCain to vet their new "Star" after launching her last Friday!

Ann   September 1st, 2008 9:43 pm ET

I've been elightened!!! I get it now!

Michelle Bachmann just explained to the world (and me) how Sarah Palin is qualified to be the VP/potential POTUS::

She sold the Alaska state plane on Ebay.

Wow, that really changes my opinion of her and McBush.

obama 08-12   September 1st, 2008 9:43 pm ET

kel atlanta   September 1st, 2008 9:42 pm ET

And if you believe that this is just a normal visit that they would do to anyone, maybe I can sell you that bridge to no-where. A little late with the background search. I am certain that she is a good person, but it looks like her family needs her now more than her country. Why would she put them all through this?

justobserve   September 1st, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Republicans' team are now spinning Palin's experience but can anyone compare the executive experience of a CEO of a 607- employee company with a manager of a 67 -person company? Obviously Governor of a 670,000 resident state is different from governor of a 6,070,000 resident state especially when the governor of the former is to be a VP of a nation of 301 million citizen and she could replace the president in short notice. It's a legitimate question but if anyone dares ask, he will be accused of sexism!

Kathy   September 1st, 2008 9:42 pm ET

I am not understanding McCain's pick.

Did he do it to try to get us to get on board with him because of Hillary Clinton? Even though he was against women's sufferage?

Did he do it to take the historical spotlight away from the Democrats?

He didnt make the choice out of who was the most qualified as he said he would..

So I am having a hard time seeing McCain's judgement and having a hard time believing he means what he says..

Melinda-Watching for Unconscious Sexism   September 1st, 2008 9:40 pm ET

I was just watching James Carville on CNN. He is going on and on about how Sarah Palin is unqualified for VP. The usual stuff, but he throws in that if McCain wanted to choose a woman, he could have just picked Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME) It is astonishing to me that the liberal media and many of these commentators are so misogynistic. They do not even see it. Let me break it down. Mr. Carville's statement implies that Senator McCain took all the female Republicans, told them to line up, and said eenie meenie minie moe. Oh, there's Sarah Palin, she's hot. WRONG. How about this, people? John McCain thought to himself, who do I like? Who would I like to have down the hall from me for four years? Who shares my values? Who has bucked their own party and exhibited courage to their covictions? He then chose who he felt was the right person. Notice that I did not mention gender once in McCain's internal rusings. McCain, my friend, is not the sexist. You, sirs and madams, are.

Kaye- Jacksonville FL   September 1st, 2008 9:40 pm ET

Holy Cow Batman....we've got to get this situation under control. Jump in the batmobile and let's get up to Alaska NOW. LMAO....all the way to the election.....

SARAH PALIN IS NOT QUALIFIED FOR VP......

Joe   September 1st, 2008 9:38 pm ET

I get the feeling communcations is the exact opposite of what this "jump" has in mind. These plumbers are going north, to Alaska, to try and stop the trickle of bad news, and to find out exactly what they have stepped in.

Sherry, Atlanta   September 1st, 2008 9:38 pm ET

No Hillary = No Obama   September 1st, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Just how sticky is this "troopergate" thing going to be – that' the question. No matter to me, it's a write-in for Hillary Clinton who SHOULD have been the next President.

HiFi   September 1st, 2008 9:37 pm ET

Too late! The mainstream media and blogs already vetted her. So much for her "maverick" personna...and I'm getting sick of the word "maverick" anyway. GOP = Get Out Palin.

North to Alaska–we're going north, the rush is on!

Cathleen Elliott   September 1st, 2008 9:36 pm ET

What kind of woman goes back to work 3 days after having a baby. What about mother-child bonding. Why does a 43 yr. old woman with 4 healthy children have a baby if you doesn't spend time with it. With a daughter pregnant and a new baby how does she even have a hour a day to campaign? I know teenagers screw up but how do we know that her daughter and the young really want to marry. Who is Sarah Palin putting first-her family or herself?

Matt   September 1st, 2008 9:36 pm ET

And these are the people that are wanting the American people to give them FOUR more years. Laughable !

Nick   September 1st, 2008 9:35 pm ET

ha WOW, Thought you were supposed to a background check BEFORE picking your VP. I guess a 15 minute meet and greet doesn't quite cover everything. And Paulin accepts the nomination knowing her pregnant daugter will have to endur intense national attention. McCain / Paulin: Reckless

Typical White Person   September 1st, 2008 9:35 pm ET

If anyone thinks Palin didn't tell McCain about the pregnant daughter and the husband's DUI, you are seriously delusional. How on earth do you expect to keep a pregnant daughter a secret? And the DUI is public record.

Pa-leeze. If you want to knock her on something, then pick something she stands for like her stand on abortion and a woman's right to choose.

Better yet, compare and contrast her to Obama, who has never made a single decision where the buck stopped with him.

QLife   September 1st, 2008 9:34 pm ET

How's that for judgement?.....

Scot   September 1st, 2008 9:34 pm ET

It sounds like McCain is trying to find evidence so he can dump her before she accepts the VP nomination.

Jeff   September 1st, 2008 9:33 pm ET

This really makes McCain and his campaign look bad.

Happily Independent   September 1st, 2008 9:33 pm ET

This shows McCain's lack of judgment. He quickly chose a VP candidate without fully vetting her. I would not be surprised to see her resign and McCain choose someone else. I am OK with keeping candidates' families off-limits, but the Republican praise of Palin's daughter shows that they are HYPOCRITES. It is great that Palin's daughter is going to keep her baby, but she is a teen mother. Has there not been a big campaign against TEEN PREGNANCY. The GOP has been talking aoout a decline in moral values. Did not Palin's daughter show a lack of values. That does not mean she is a horrible person. She make some BAD decisions. When someone is wrong then SAY SO and NOT MAKE EXCUSES for that person. By not saying her daughter did something wrong, then the GOP are HYPOCRITES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Independent   September 1st, 2008 9:32 pm ET

CNN you are disgusting. You make the National Enquirer look credible.

John in DC   September 1st, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Here's the simple question McCain supporters should ask themselves:

Given all that has come out over the past 3.5 days, is this the most qualified Republican that could be found – in the ENTIRE party – to serve as vice-president of the United States of America?

Patricia   September 1st, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Maybe McCain will finally vet Palin ... How is that judgment thing going Senator

Hillary Supporter   September 1st, 2008 9:31 pm ET

THIS IS HOW BAD MCCAIN WANTED THE HILLARY SUPPORTERS? WOW!!!!!! HOW CAN PALIN BE THE MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATE IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. THIS AN INSULT TO HILLARY.

Felecia   September 1st, 2008 9:31 pm ET

I agree with the McSame campaign the 12 people sent to Alaska were not sent to further Vet Palin. It's to Vet her for the first time! This really questions his judgment and ability to lead.

Dianne   September 1st, 2008 9:30 pm ET

The way i see it is that McCain and his staff is afraid something else is going to come out that they did not know. They did not vet her as well as they should have. McCain only met her once in Feb before he met with her last and offered her the VP.. You know I would be scraching my heard iF I was Mitt Romney and wondering why McCain thought Palin was qualified than he was...Strange! Everyone needs to think about McCain judgement over all this this..

Jen   September 1st, 2008 9:30 pm ET

They're going to vet Palin....Does anyone really want four more years of endless scandals? I mean, this is the soap opera that keeps on giving...after only THREE DAYS!

Larry   September 1st, 2008 9:30 pm ET

Isn't it a little late to be vetting? Is this a preview of how McCain makes "well-informed" decisions?

Hillary Supporter   September 1st, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Why do you think the McCain camp- broke the news about Palin today, during a hurricane? To divert attention away from them. Talk about political pandering, they use a hurricane to muffle the press then people like you are critical for the media reporting it? Thats exactly what McCain wanted. Wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greg FL.   September 1st, 2008 9:29 pm ET

Too little too late Mr McCain.

abenj   September 1st, 2008 9:28 pm ET

they are going to ask her to step down. expect her to step down in a few days "to spend time with her family during bristol's crisis". then their plan will be completed and they can pick another candidate for VP.

Pat M   September 1st, 2008 9:28 pm ET

In my view, I think the continuing reports about the New VP issues is getting a bit over whelming! The obviously Republican Lady just on Larry King stating that Palin has more "Executive" experience than Obama is a bit much! Questioned if she was insinuating that Palin had more experience than Obama she quickly replied, "oh no, I'm saying executive experiene." Could somebody please put an end to this BULL CRAP (a nicer description than embellishment or lies)!

Excutive experience? C'Mon Presidents can hire Executive Experience. They need a running mate with Leadership Experience, Foreign Experience and Judgement which both McCain in his choice of VP and Palin in her lack of Presidential Experience can't claim! What insults me more are their blantant lies! Palin is done. I don't care about her family matters they're of no interest to me but her Judgement and Experience is! McCain's Credability is nil, he is done, Stick A Fork in him! If I was business owner and they were employees I'd sack both of them! And they think they are leadership material!

alvino   September 1st, 2008 9:27 pm ET

John McCain made the most important decision of his political career and named Palin vp. He should have checked into the "abuse of power" charges before now. I find it hard to believe that anyone would believe he has shown himself to be presidential. How many times does a president get a second chance to correct his bad judgement?

Sam   September 1st, 2008 9:26 pm ET

McCain didn't really vet her and they're afraid more will be dug up.

Palin has very little experience and McCain's people are trying so hard to puff up her feathers with spin.
I cannot believe they're saying that 1 and a half years of executive experience in a state that has 1/3 the population of Chicago is enough to run the vice-presidency.

Folks, this is NO EXPERIENCE!!!

This is reckless.

Haneefah of Stone Mountain, GA   September 1st, 2008 9:22 pm ET

Not being at home to take care of your family leaves me to believe that taking care of your family was not important enough for Gov. Palin to deal with and she thinks I'd like her to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency (I think not!) She cannot run her own family let alone the United States of America.

VERY BAD CHOICE SENATOR MCCAIN (MCSHAME)! PEOPLE OF THE USA WAKE UP! BUSH PRESIDENCY ALL OVER AGAIN.

Here we go " the Judgement " of Mr. McCain. You can't start vetting after you picked your nominee.

I wonder did he think properly that a VP is a heart beat away from being a Commander- in- chief. ???

cindy   September 1st, 2008 9:21 pm ET

i thought she was vetted before she was chosen. Is McCain in charge of his campaign? Boy talk about judgement

bill m   September 1st, 2008 9:21 pm ET

Properly vetted huh... Pick a new VP if you don't want to lose by a land slide Mr. McCain.

b   September 1st, 2008 9:21 pm ET

Umm. Sure... Perhaps you should have vetted BEFORE you chose her??? Oh, I guess you asked and no one wanted to be your running mate? could that be it? Pitiful

Jeff in SF   September 1st, 2008 9:21 pm ET

Should have done the vetting BEFORE announcing the pick!

J. Sully   September 1st, 2008 9:20 pm ET

Probably trying to get dirl on Palin, after McCain saw Governor Jindal conduct himself so well during the storm. PREDICTION: Dirt will be found and Palin will be out – Jindal in. Great way to conduct your campaign McLame. Hope you don't run the country this way. sure, pick a woman, and pander, pander, pander. Those Hillary voters probably hate Palin!

dmw   September 1st, 2008 9:19 pm ET

Palin is a true outsider and that is what I love about her. The liberal media is going to try and do all they can to discredit her and it will backfire because we know that the liberal media is for Obama and will try to turn everything to his advantage.

I do not know much about Sarah Palin, but I do know that she is more real than Obama, Biden and even McCain. We want something new and different to come to Washington. We thought it might be Obama, but he turned out to be just a regular, old-school politican wrapped up in a facade and new suit. His change is only that he is black; everything else about him is the same old Democratic nonsense I've heard since I first started voting in 1975. I am black and my family voted Democratic and that is how I voted as well until this year. I will not vote Democratic this year because I am sick and tired of taxes and paying for folks who do not take care of themselves. I am tired of the meanness and the way Hillary Clinton was treated by the Democratic party.

I do agree about shared pain, but it seems with the Democrats the only shared pain, is the pain of taking my tax dollars that I worked hard for and having them going into the pockets of people who do not want to improve their lives and people who make bad decisions, whine about it, then I have to pay for them to get out of trouble. I am sick of it!

Sarah Palin although she is flawed; so am I and all people I know. She is real and not a fake. She is not tarnished. I like that! What the Daily Kos did to her and her daughter is shameful and I am disgusted with the liberal left right now. What happened to all of the feminists?? Are they only for women if they are Democratic?? Sad, sad, sad.

John   September 1st, 2008 9:19 pm ET

hahaha, silly mcsenile can't even pick his VP, how can he run a country

AncientMariner   September 1st, 2008 9:19 pm ET

Isnt that what they should have done before annointing Palin the All American Queen of the United States.

A case of securing the barn after the horses had left?

Sarah Sarah Sarah   September 1st, 2008 9:19 pm ET

A day late and a dollar short

banderson   September 1st, 2008 9:18 pm ET

I will spell this out so that everyone understands. John McCain will say and do whatever it takes to win an election. He use to accuse Barack Obama of willing to lose a war to win an election yet look at what he did with picking Sarah Palin. He didn't even vet her. This entire thing was about getting votes and trying to win this election. What a farce. I certainly hope the media hold him and the Republican party to account.

Monica for Obama in Indiana   September 1st, 2008 9:17 pm ET

Yeah Right!

Mauri   September 1st, 2008 9:17 pm ET

Taking into consideration the many time-line circumstances, it just may be that the presumptive vice president should resign for consideration. This way, another person could be named in time for convention nomination or very soon thereafter. No doubt Governor Palin is qualified for the position, but her family obligations may be perhaps too confining.

KC   September 1st, 2008 9:16 pm ET

Sure because she was never veeted.

Cynthia   September 1st, 2008 9:16 pm ET

Yeah right. They are going to try and check under the rocks that they should have long before he picked her. I heard a comment made by her mother-in-law on another channel and it was an interesting comment. Her approval rating in Alaska is also not as high as once reported.

Question   September 1st, 2008 9:16 pm ET

Why didn't John McCain do his job before he picked Palin? She wouldn't have been on one's list.

Obama/Biden all the way.

confess beauty queen   September 1st, 2008 9:15 pm ET

Now you're going to vet your VP. McCain has had this process the other way round.
This shows poor judgement!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave in OC, Vets for Obama   September 1st, 2008 9:15 pm ET

"Hi, my name is John McCain.

I'm now thinking I should have made a more serious choice for VP.

Barack picked a great guy, but I didn't get to choose anyone that was not fervently anti-abortion.

I used to have principles, but I gave that all up to get the nomination.

Excuse me, I feel sick"

Veterans for Obama!

ddude95   September 1st, 2008 9:15 pm ET

Um... Aren't they a little late to be vetting her _now_?

Franky   September 1st, 2008 9:14 pm ET

Is one thing if you ain't hiding something or what. I ain't claiming her to be a member of the Outfit or something, LOL!!! Plus, she should have been aware of what was gonna happen. I mean, she might be convicted of corruption to use influence for politicla gain?? And not to mention that it can also come to question her style, skills, communication, etc. Ohhh and did I mention that she's a female? Hillary had it tough because of he rhistory with her family and saga it began. and by the way, it began a VERY long time ago, I'm sure you agree. You seen how long and tough Hillary and her family had to go through it. But this woman though, she just doesn't know how to play poker...yet!

But I bet you we ain't gonna see nothing in that case. If we do, then she'll definitely look stupid. But the fact that she has lawyer pretty much says it all...it creates ambiguity.

Hot Rod   September 1st, 2008 9:14 pm ET

NO NO NO!!!!!
You're suppose to vet the candidate first THEN chose her as your running mate............not the other way around.

S. Boatman   September 1st, 2008 9:14 pm ET

There Is A Cover Up Team Being Sent Already! Ha Ha Ha! This Is Just Getting Better And Better!

AB   September 1st, 2008 9:13 pm ET

talk of vetting after announcing the nominee!! If mccain can make decision as gravitas as selecting hurriedly, would you really trust this guy having his hand on the button? The first major decision made by any presidential candidate is the selection of the running mate and john mccain has miserably failed this test. No wonder he was a mediocre student in his school graduating 5th from the bottom.

Jatovi, NC   September 1st, 2008 9:12 pm ET

McCain sent the cover up team.

Lee from FL   September 1st, 2008 9:11 pm ET

to be honest, i feel bad for Palin.i feel like McCain used her because she's a woman for political gains and to steal the thunder away from Obama's big acceptance speech.
She should of been properly vetted

txgal44   September 1st, 2008 9:11 pm ET

I thought they already vetted Gov. Palin? Good luck John McCain. I think you're going to really need it.

Regis Hugg   September 1st, 2008 9:10 pm ET

It is not too late to rescind or reconsider the nomination.

There are many compelling reasons for doing so.

Happy in Oregon   September 1st, 2008 9:10 pm ET

Now he vet's her?

He didn't know anything about her and was forced to take her on.

How pathetic.

Now he needs to know all the rest of the dirt before the media does.

voter   September 1st, 2008 9:10 pm ET

why would they send 12 communication team to alaska. Shouldn't the communication team be traveling with Palin? sounds to me as though they are having buyers remorse and are vetting her. It appears she has taken millions in earmarks, was almost recalled as mayor, left her town in $20 million debt, fired her staff when they did not support her mayoral bid, troopergate etc. All in one day.

RapidRay   September 1st, 2008 9:10 pm ET

Better late than never, eh, Johnny?

NO WAY, NO HOW, NO MCCAIN!   September 1st, 2008 9:09 pm ET

LOL!

Better go check on the rest of the family...

Mark   September 1st, 2008 9:09 pm ET

LMAO, yes they are going to uncover the rest of the skeletons, before she is inducted to being the VP...

They did not vet her well enough prior to this ,now they are going back to clean up the mess, cover up what they can before the rest of the news media uncovers the rest...lol..

Rich in Seattle   September 1st, 2008 9:08 pm ET

That is why you are supposed to vet your VP canidate BEFORE you choose them. What a stupid decision picking someone who has so much baggage.

Jeffer65   September 1st, 2008 9:08 pm ET

Can you say damage control? Maybe they took Karl Rove with them and can leave him up there.

Lee from FL   September 1st, 2008 9:07 pm ET

McCain: shoot first ,as questions later, now that's a maverick

Obama 08   September 1st, 2008 9:06 pm ET

Yeah...right!!
